History: Azure was born on the 25th of Frost, Year 59 to a rich family along with her twin sister Crimson. However, following the early divorce of their parents, they were separated when her mother moved to Vacuo. This resulted in her having no lasting memories of Crimson and with her father refusing to talk about her mother or her twin, she would never remember that her sister had ever existed. After that, she was raised mostly by the maids in her household due to her father always being busy with work. At a young age, she was given the best education available and was tutored in a number of subjects, her favorite being history. She was always interested in the past events of Remnant and how humanity was able to survive against such a hostile race as the Grimm.
The vacant role of a mother figure was filled in by one of the more younger maids to the household named Maria. Maria had taken a liking to the young lady and so became attached to the girl as if she were her own daughter. Naturally, the young Azure had also became attached to Maria, resulting in her being her favourite maid. As the years went by, they two become closer with Maria telling Azure the many stories of her life and how she traveled the world to see it in it's splendor. She had also told her of the time where she was saved by a huntsman whilst trekking through Forever Fall Forest when she was about to be killed by a pack of Beowolves. This soon inspired Azure to do become a Huntress, something her father wanted for her beloved daughter.
Azure was then tutored by an ex-huntsman due to her father's hatred for the Atlas military, seeing the academies as a way of recruiting more soldiers. She learnt many things, such as the application of Dust as well as how to use Aura to its fullest. She also learnt the art of combat from the retired huntsman, specializing most in swordsmanship. He taught her what it meant to be a huntress and that in order to protect others, one must be willing to sacrifice themselves. This made her even more determined to become a huntress and helped create her sense of right and wrong. It was at this time she had received Sacred Rose from a blacksmith who wandered remnant, having talked with her and seeing her determination. After finishing her training with the huntsman, he gave her a special gauntlet that he named Beggar's Salvation. It was a large gauntlet that when activated, extended into a shield. Azure would treasure this dearly when she left for Vale and to Beacon.
Having lacked a Combat School, Azure was forced to undergo the Beacon Entrance Exam where she managed to go through the academic exam and fared well in the live combat test. During the Sparring Exam, she would demonstrate her semblance, having used it to wear her larger hot-headed opponent down. After passing the exams, she underwent her first year at Beacon where she was placed in a team and became their shield, protecting them from harm. During that year, they entered the Vytal Festival Tournament were they'd qualify to the finals, having Azure go through to the singles rounds. Her first opponent was a young lady the same age as her, clad in red and black with flowing red hair. She'd ready herself as her opponent drew her ebony blade. However, Azure would be surprised by her opponent's blade burning like her own. As the match started, the two ladies fought for a while, neither of them backing downor showing signs of fatigue. They were seemingly equal in strength and the two were hard to keep track of with most spectators only able to see a blur of blue and red, clashing against each other. The fighting was intense but they refused to give up. Eventually the match ended with a double knockout where both combatants charged at one another for one final attack, depleting both of their aura reserves. Upon waking up, the two talked and became fast friends. It was at this time Azure's father came to visit her where he saw the other girl. Seeing a face he had not seen for years, he revealed her to be her twin sister Crimson. He told Azure about her mother, whilst Crimson revealed her horrible fate having died whilst a group of bandits raided the town she was in. They soon parted ways, but they exchanged small wrist charms as a promise, a promise to return to each other once more.
Azure spent the rest of her second and third year progressing in her studies and training, ever working on becoming a better fighter and a huntress worthy of Atlas. During this time she spent a large time training her semblance and her skills with dust, trying to train to become a caster, though this has proven naught but pointless. As she grew up, she reunited with Crimson and was even able to be placed in a team with her sister, forming Team ATCK during her third year. With this, her third year was filled with many happy experiences that Azure would keep for the rest of her life, if not for the balance of life shifting its ugly head.
Near the end of Team ATCK’s third year, the team were sent on a Search and Destroy mission on their own where they were tasked to clear out an area with a high concentration of Grimm near the train line in Forever Falls, where the train passes through the valley. During the mission they were able to deal with the masses of Beowolves and Ursa that plagued the area, as well as a few Nevermore and Death Stalkers. However, they were unable to anticipate the sighting of a lone Vimana that dwelled in the large caverns. With the beast taking the team by surprise, the Grimm was able to break through the rubble that the student attempted to escape through, forcing them into an open area with no cover. With no experience against a Vimana, save for lessons on how to kill them, the odds were not in their favour. Crimson did not survive the battle, being caught in the jaws of the large Grimm during a duo attack with Azure.
With the loss of her twin sister, Azure was broken with only her faith to provide a shed of light in her now darkened life. The experience was enough to cause the two others in her team to leave Beacon, leaving Azure to continue on alone after her father fell ill and shortly passed away. During his last days, he would share Azure’s pain in the loss of her sister, regretting not having been close to her like he wished. It was at this time that he requested that Azure take care of everything he worked hard for, including herself. After he had passed, Azure decided to continue her studies at Beacon Academy, leaving her father's company in the hands of it's board of directors, knowing that it would be what both her father and Crimson would have wanted.
Now training for her fourth year at Beacon Academy, Azure prepares for the journey ahead of her, however dangerous it may be.
Personality: Azure was brought up with a rather strict upbringing, being taught from an early age how to act like a high-class citizen and this has stayed with her all of her life. She always walked straight and stood with a near perfect posture, keeping a noble composure throughout most of her life. This affected her personality greatly, making it hard for her to socialize with students at Beacon during her early years. Whilst she was able to slowly come out of this shell of hers, after the events that led to the death of her sister and eventually her father, she has now become more timid and prefers isolation over company nowadays, afraid of losing those closest to her. On a regular basis, she attempts to feign confidence and strength, with a great degree of success, in order to avoid seeming weak. At times, Azure does get flashbacks of her failed mission, a form of PTSD which she has managed to hide from the medical staff at Beacon.
Azure has a great degree of intelligence, being tutored at a young age in multiple subjects as she was expected to as the heiress of a successful company, being most knowledgeable in history in particular. Her studies have mostly gone well, though recently she has been seen to have a significant drop in her test scores, though she has been able hide this fact from other students thanks to her teachers understanding.
Aura and Semblance: Azure is very proficient with utilising her Aura, as she has used it on occasion to unlock the Aura of a few students in her early years at Beacon. Her healing is slightly slower than most but is made up by her prowess in defensive usage of Aura. She has knowledge and experience with the strength and blast abilities, but is unable to use awareness. Her Aura's colour is Azure Blue.
Her Semblance is called Blossom. Blossom creates a large semi-spherical barrier that spans 7 metres in length and 4 metres in height (8 if not on the ground, creating a spherical barrier). The barrier is strong enough to resist many high yield explosions, the highest it can resist before completely breaking was a single explosive with a yield of about 3 kilos (of TNT). The barrier uses up 5% of her aura to create and can five minutes before dissipating if left untouched. It can be weakened with multiple attacks, however Azure can renew the already existing barrier by using up to 5% of her aura, depending on how damaged and how long the barrier has been active. The barrier does not allow anything denser than air to pass through, meaning solid objects, water and gases that are denser than air will not penetrate the barrier unless they produce enough force to break the barrier. The barrier is completely static, meaning it cannot move at all. Azure is able to recall the barrier at anytime, but will not regain any of her aura back. Constant usage of Blossom and the refreshment of barriers is generally ill-advised for her, as the strain on her body can overwhelm her, with Azure being able to refresh a barrier up to 3 times without noticeable fatigue and 6 times before being unable to fight anything stronger than a creep, with 8 times being her max before collapsing. It's unknown why, but the barrier is always decorated with flower patterns like her gauntlets, most possibly due to her love of roses.
After implementing Semblance Catalyst Foci in the form of charms, Azure has been able to augment her barriers by adding several effects to them, depending on the foci used. Each of her foci last for about four minutes each and are not able to be toggled or switched out, requiring Azure to wait for the full duration before being able to use another foci.
- Fire: Creates an orange barrier, decorated with thorned rose patterns, a tribute to Crimson. These barriers have a relatively high surface temperature but do not ignite the air around her, instead only burning solids and liquids that make contact with the barrier. Note that although it is capable of melting some metals with prolonged contact, currently her barrier is unable to melt anything above steel.
- Ice: Creates a white barrier, decorated with lily patterns, a tribute to Maria, her maid and surrogate mother. These barriers start freezing nearly anything that makes contact with it at a constant rate, spreading the size over their bodies depending on how long contact has been made, though highly heated weapons wont freeze, instead causing steam to emerge. Do note that frozen objects/opponents do not stick to the barrier, allowing their continued use/functionality.
- Wind: Replaces her regular barrier with an aggressive current of wind that circles around Azure in an 4.5 metre radius. This current does not block attacks, but instead is able to repel or even blow away projectiles and combatants. This current moves at 120 km/hr.
- Lightning: Creates a yellow barrier, decorated with sunflower patterns, a tribute to her tutor who taught Azure her swordsmanship. These barriers crackle with electricity that has a constant high voltage which discharges at whatever makes contact with it. This is normally very damaging for Grimm and would be fatal for humanoids, if not for Aura.
- Kinetic: Creates a glowing blue barrier, almost identical to Azure’s regular barriers and are decorated with rose patterns. These barriers repel strikes made against them at nearly twice the force used for an attack. For solid projectiles, this means bullets are sent flying in random directions whereas arrows would be shattered. For melee attacks, this would normally send the attacker flying back, depending on how hard they struck the barrier.
Combat Behavior: Azure is essentially a tank/melee fighter, taking her place on the front line to draw the fighting away from her teammates to her. She's not a pushover when it comes to dealing damage either, capable of taking out large groups of Grimm own. She's an expert swordsman, capable of besting others of similar skill and also occasionally greater by using quick thinking and tactics. She never fights dirty no matter how bad the going gets. Capable of killing Grimm far larger than her and defending those around herself, her skill had earned her the unofficial title of Azure Knight from her classmates and was what she went by when taking jobs during her free time, trying to help out those in need. However, after the events that transpired during her third year at Beacon, Azure threw away that title, believing herself to be unworthy of it, though a few students and villages will remember the name. When fighting groups alone, she makes full use of her shield to block blows and stunning enemies with shield bashes, and when she does, she counter-attacks with her sword. If others are in imminent danger, like if they were about to be hit after having their guard broken, Azure will move to defend, rushing like a fanatic to defend her allies even if it means taking the blow herself - a result of her traumatic loss.
Azure is more aggressive during one-on-one confrontations where she attempts to pressure her opponent with a barrage of attacks. Due to her shield's primary form, Azure can easily change her fighting style from a sword & shield style to a one-handed style or even two-handed for stronger attacks. Despite her prowess at close-range, Azure does have a few weaknesses. The main one is her lack of long-ranged attacks. Barring the dust functions from her sword, she has no ranged attacks. Although she can block bullets, she has to remain focused if she plans on not getting hit by them. At times this has caused her to be pinned down by enemy fire, forced to stay and block bullets or be faced with injury. Another weakness is her weapon's lack of additional forms. Whilst this isn't exactly a major disadvantage, it does mean she is not as versatile as most of her classmates and thus can be a problem in some environments. When using her shield, Azure's mobility is hampered due to it's size meaning that her main source of damage comes from the dust effects from her sword. Also, activating the shield in tight corridors has the slight risk of it getting stuck in the wall. Her armor is rather light in comparison to other defensive students, only protecting her legs, shoulders, lower arms and chest. However, she is strong enough to lift weights as heavy as 325lb and able to run at a top speed of 10mph with her equipment thanks to her training.
The TL;DR version of this is pretty much that she's fast, tanky and an expert swordsman but she has very limited ranged attacks and struggles at some terrain. She's good suited fighting with others and better one-on-one where she can focus on one person.
WEAPONName: Sacred Rose
Primary Form: A specially crafted blade made by a renowned blacksmith, this sword is Azure's favorite possession and her deadliest tool. The steel alloy it is made of allows for great strength whilst also being lightweight for quick strikes. The sharpness of the blade is equal to that of a razor with seven more times the length. The blade is 2'11" with the sword's total length of 3'4".
With this blade, Azure has dispatched many Grimm, both large and small. The handle has been customized for an easy grip using tough leather straps and the cross-guard was made so that Azure would easily be able to fight with the blade without the risk of it breaking. The pommel is also customized, allowing it to store a small dust cylinder that reaches all the way to the cross-guard where a specialized lacing system can be used for various dust effects as explained below.
Dust Functions: The Sacred Rose has a special lacing system that is composed of three main parts. The first is the storage device that rests inside the handle. It's made so that it doesn't compromise the handle's integrity. With this, Azure can insert a special vial that contains raw dust through the pommel and into the handle where it meets the cross-guard. In the cross-guard is the "injection mechanism" which pumps the dust into the next part. The final part is the lacing device where the dust is activated all over the blade, allowing for various effects. The dust used creates a range of effects, a list is shown below:
- Fire Dust: Engulfs the blade in a fiery red glow, allowing for... well flame attacks. The super-heated blade can cause searing wounds that may set fire (or very well burn) the target. The blade is also enhances her blade's cutting potential, allowing her to slice through Grimm bone armour with well-placed strikes.
- Ice Dust: Azure's favourite to use. It surrounds the blade in a glowing ice layer that begins to freeze whatever it touches. With this, Azure can immobilise her opponents quickly or freeze them in a prison of solid ice through continued exposure, like stabs. She can also surround the area around her with an ice sheet to limit mobility or ice spikes to damage those around her by stabbing her sword into the ground, though these techniques drain the dust faster.
- Lightning Dust: This is pretty much easy to figure out. It surrounds the blade with a electrical field that shocks anything it touches with the voltage of a taser, capable of debilitating foes easily. Thanks to the leather strap handle, Azure is safe from such electrocutions.
- Wind Dust: This causes the blade to glow a bright green. When using this effect, Azure can send wind projectiles at her opponents that have a maximum range of 25 metres before losing its form. These razor winds can slice through wood but do not do much damage against metallic objects. They also have a knock-back effect which gets weaker as it reaches its maximum range. By stabbing the ground, she can create a strong wind blast around her, pushing back anything around her. This does not blow away bullets, however.
- Kinetic Dust: Probably the most fun out of the lot. This surround the blade in a blue glow. Whilst in this form, any attacks Azure makes have increased strength and knock-back with the strength being estimated to increase about 1.5 times more and the knock-back being increased about 3 times more. She uses this effect to pressure her opponents or to deal with strong groups of enemies. However, the constant attacks using kinetic dust can and will cause the sword to become faster than normal. To lower this risk, Azure only carries one canister on her.
History: This blade was created by a renowned blacksmith who wandered the land. Upon reaching Atlas, the blacksmith was commissioned by Azure's father to make the best sword he could. When he asked to do so, he did not ask for a reward but a chance to meet and talk with Azure. Her father, despite being cautious in nature, agreed to this. When the blacksmith met Azure, they spoke for a while. It was at this time that he saw the potential and determination in her soul and thus forged the best blade he could. When asked about his previous creations by Azure, he replied that he had also made a similar blade to a girl from Vacuo that possessed bright red hair.
SHIELDName: Beggar's Salvation
Primary Form: A large gauntlet for the left arm and made of a very strong but lightweight metal. The gauntlet covers most of her left arm and has a special switch that activates when the hand is fully closed. This is essentially its storage form, although Azure uses this form for when she requires a more aggressive stance and for stronger punches.
Secondary Form: The gauntlet's true form. The gauntlet expands and extends into a large shield in the shape of a cross with a rose patterned front. The shield's total height is 3'10" with the width being 2'6". The shield is very strong, capable of withstanding blows that would shatter the bodies of most humans. Azure has gotten it modified to work in cold environments after an incident where it was jammed due to the intense cold of the Atlas weather. Since its a shield, Azure uses it to block bullets and blows whilst also using it to bash enemies in the face.
History: Given to her by her huntsman tutor, Azure has kept this relic for years, never abandoning or going on a mission without it. On the side it has the words "Devotion" and "Self-Sacrifice" engraved to remind Azure of the key traits of a huntress.
