Recently, reports have surfaced from several aerial shipping companies of a new mercenary band calling themselves the "Immortal Lancers" repeatedly harassing cargo Bullheads transporting shipments of seemingly random materials. The manner in which they carry out the 'heist' is, according to each report sent in, identical; a group of 8 pirates grapple the targeted ship before breaching and boarding, a similar tactic used by Grimm Lancers to bring a ship down. However, instead of sinking the Bullhead, they merely strip the ship of all cargo and load it onto their own ship before vanishing off the radar. Eyewitnesses have determined and confirmed that this is not the infamous "Red Corsair" and as such have deemed this a safe case for a Beacon Initiation.

Team CNRS, overseen by Professor Ferus, is to undertake the following mission/initiation. The team will board a cargo Bullhead which is identical to the previous targets struck by the pirate group and act as bait to lure the "Immortal Lancers" out. Once the pirates have boarded the ship, the team is to capture the 8 pirates and bring them back to Vale. The pirate ship has been confirmed to be on autopilot during each 'heist' so reinforcements are not expected. Each of the 8 pirates have also been confirmed to have some degree of Aura training, and every report makes strange mention of some very lucky incidents for the pirates. Team CNRS is advised to exercise caution while engaging.

 - Capture the "Immortal Lancers"
 - Do not let any pirates escape

As the sun started to fall from the sky, casting dark grey shadows over the expansive ground of the Beacon landing pads, one lone cargo Bullhead stood on the far left platform, with its only visible accompaniment being one lone, tall Hunter. With the more rough, defined angles of the cargo ship easily separating it from the more sleek, polished passenger Bullheads, it was hard to mistake--yet even if one paid close attention, there was little to distinguish it from any of its other 'brethren'--just a old, standard grade cargo ship.

Professor Ferus was alone on the platform, standing solitary vigil and clad in full combat attire for his next upcoming mission. Though his blank face showed little emotion, time was somewhat of the essence--it was essential that the ship be in the air and on one of the regular flight paths at the right time. There he stood, patiently awaiting his new charges' arrival. They should have received the message to sortie a while ago...

"...Beg pardon, administrative offices?" Yu abruptly halts his advance toward Beacon's doors and looks at Prism, head cocked curiously. "...What on Remnant are those, pray tell?" By the expression on his face, one could tell that he was both utterly serious and completely baffled. "I do assume you are not taking advantage of me to pull my leg, but..."

Continuing to listen to Prism's stream of words, he notes the repeated mention of uniforms with a sense of unease, but the other things bring him relief. "I must admit I have quite high hopes for Beacon's training facilities. Let us hope that I will not be disappointed by the result."

"Y-yeah, I think I will." A moment passes before Jocelyn suddenly bursts out into ironic laughter, both bitter and humorous. "It's funny, isn't it? How each time we spend time with just us, we manage to bring each other to tears, bring up horrible memories, or learn something heartbreaking." she remarks sarcastically, but with no intent of rebuke. "There's something really wrong with us, you know that."

Reaching over, she grasps Prism's arm, thumb and forefinger encircling her slender wrist. "We're both really bad at using words, it seems. Never a moment when either of us isn't comforting the other."

We are not considering DCKS. Ever.

Lager has my vote b/c color of beer (if there is one) and Leona staying leader makes sense. We can probably say Lissa got suspended or something since RIP Floob.

Been talking to Moth on Discord and you have my unanimous agreement.

Waking to someone shaking his shoulder was something Setsuna hadn't experienced ever since he'd left his home in Patch, so for a moment his mind registered the shaking as coming from his parents. Thankfully he instinctively quelled the urge to mumble "Coming Mum". At Anna's first 'really' his eyes were open, at the second 'really' he was sitting up, and by the time she finished speaking he'd already reached for his sword, having kept everything close.

Having had the silence broken by multiple people moving into action bar Calen, Setsuna had absolutely no idea what Anna felt was wrong, though the absence of the team's trickster was enough to alert the team's leader, assembling everything he needed to fight with an ease born of repetition. "Teddy, fill me in. What's Anna referring to and any idea where Calen is." he commanded.

Half a test of his own skill on one of the best stages of talent Remnant has to offer, half a desire to prove that there's a will behind the words he speaks, Setsuna simply wants to win. Not to claim the title of 41st Vytal Tournament Champion or to lord it over his fellow students, but to show the world that the next generation is in good hands. Though if he does fall in battle, he'll take it graciously and with no complaint whatsoever.

With the 1v1 format suiting Kei far more than team combat, it's a good chance to take on other people he hasn't faced before (though it's literally only 1 person). Winning isn't incredibly important in his eyes--it's simply a glorified spar with a student.

She so nearly flinched away when Prism laid that hand on her arm, partially fearing that she would physically be forced out of her protective cradle like she'd done to Prism multiple times during her flashbacks. Instead, Jocelyn was slowly drawn out by her teammate's kind and comforting words, not brought to tears but lingering on the verge. "Y-yeah. Yeah, I'm not alone. I have my family, my friends, my" she mumbled.

Eventually, the slightly distraught girl felt secure enough to extract herself from her self-built cover. "...Sorry for making such a big deal out of this."

Even the voices shut up at that one. Before Setsuna could even start thinking of a reply, she'd already turned away and he couldn't find it within himself to muster up a response. He just turned and headed for the cradle of his sleeping bag in silence, letting Anna's words roll around in his head. Inwardly, he would have thanked her for the inspiration speech but he didn't know what to even say. His unwavering courtesy had, for once, failed him.

The voices only grew worse in his nightmares. Expanding past mere noises into giant looming shadows, they relentlessly pursued him as he fled from what he could not harm, through a dark, tight forest which seemed designed to trip him over at every step. Forced to hack away at vines and plants that entangled his arms and impeded his flight, it was only a matter of time before they caught him, lifted him up and choked the breath out of him while he kicked and flailed futilely, the light growing brighter--

Setsuna woke with a strangled gasp, his sleeping bag having ensnared him while he slept. The light from his nightmare was from the fire, crackling and flickering. No doubt Anna had tended to it while on her watch. Rising from his cocoon, none the better from his rest, he took over Anna's position and settled in for a few hours of listening to the voices torment him, one hand on his sword. He dreaded returning to that shadowy place where he was so vulnerable, yet return he did after allowing Teddy to take watch,

"I'm not an expert in general biology, but isn't that another bug or something?" Jocelyn queries, extracting a comically large duvet from a tiny box and eventually falling over onto her bed from the physical exertion. "Also...not to kick a dead horse but where's that lewd calendar so we can burn it at the earliest opportunity." She glares at Coco with the clear message of "do that again and no healing for you for the next foreseeable mission".

Yu's face contorts strangely at Prism's words, though it is quickly replaced by a expression of neutrality. "I am afraid the Royale scholarship does not provide for my every need, although I could not in any conscience ask for more. As is, I have found living space elsewhere, and am looking for extra jobs to supplement my requirements." He looks around awkwardly, shoving his hands in his pockets. There's a clink of metal touching metal as he does.

"To answer your first question. Beacon has yet to confirm that I am even here, let alone assign members of a team. And...most of what I own is also stored where I live, so feel free to lead the way."

Jocelyn processes Prism's words with an emotion within her that's all too familiar to her ever since she made that fateful decision to be what she was now; uncertainty. "I can't." The words are out of her mouth before she can stop them. "There's no choosing who to save when you're in my line of work. You can't just pick one person and say 'That's the person who gets to live. Everyone else can just die.' I can't do that."

The girl hugs her knees to her chest, shrinking in on herself. "You think I don't want to help people who deserve it more. Everyone wants their loved ones to be saved and blames the medics when they choose a stranger over the person they want healed." There's an audible quake to her voice now, alongside a subtle trembling in her body. "You say I'll save a lot of lives. But for each one I save, I'm sacrificing countless others that I could have saved in favour of that one person. I want to believe that what you said is true with all my heart. But I just can't." Her final word comes out as a plea as she buries her face under her arms--Prism's clearly struck a nerve, and a sensitive one at that.

"Indeed, Miss Skylark." Yu bows as a sign of respect, unfazed by the wordplay, before taking Prism's hand in a much stronger grasp than appearances would show. "It is good to see many of our kind studying in such a prestigious place as Beacon. I trust that the conditions here are much more...forgiving than Atlas, allowing us to flourish and prosper." While his tone is polite, it's clear that there's much more than meets the eye.

"On that topic, I am afraid that I am not at all acquainted with the school grounds." He cocks his head slightly to emphasise his question. "Mr. Royale mentioned that another of his beneficiaries would be guiding me."

I would beg to differ, my Rachel rides a tiger into battle...though I suppose technically that doesn't exactly count as cavalry.

Anyway, character alignment for both Smokey and Aurelia?
