WiP Characters / Acacilla Nahualli-Roth
« on: September 24, 2017, 07:35:37 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Acacilla Nahualli-Roth - Goes by Aca Roth

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Human female

Symbol: Xochitl

Occupation: First year at Haven academy

Appearance: Aca stands at 5’6” and weighs 134lbs, slightly less than her sister in both regards. Aca has long dark hair that she lets fall to her upper back, onyx colored eyes, and a heart-shaped face. Just like her sister, her skin tone is that of a beige-mocha color, darker than most in Mistral but lighter than most Alapelagians thanks to her father.

Aca’s everyday outfit is the same as her combat outfit and, even for a huntress, it’s a bit extravagant. Starting from the bottom, she has a pair of black boots with only a slight platform. Above that, she has a pair of short, light, neon purple legwarmers with small versions of her symbol in a [insert color] star-like repeated pattern all over overtop of a pair of light red skinny jeans. She has a thin belt wrapped around her waist for the jeans, although in truth she doesn’t need it. Above that, she wears a tightly fitting black shirt that she once had bought for a workout regimen and over that a black leather jacket. The jacket is short, only reaching slightly past her waist and with sleeves only reaching to her elbows, and also baggy like it’s slightly too big for her. The jacket itself also has oddly protruding shoulderworks with a mix of bright colors along the shoulders and short sleeves. On her left hand, she has a single leather glove colored similarly to her leg warmers, that she uses to handle her saw blades.

Inspiration

History: Sample Text

Personality: Sample Text

Aura and Semblance: Aca’s aura is a light red color and was unlocked, along with her semblance, at Harbor academy in Alapelagias. She prides herself on being able to take a hit and get back up thanks to her aura pool.

Aca’s semblance, which she named Yo-Yo, allows her to “tag” up to five objects with her aura. If she activates her semblance while one of these objects is within 100 feet of her, it flies back toward her left hand. The tags last 24 hours and tagging an object takes no energy from her, although making it return to her does. The speed at which objects return is dependent on the weight of the object she tagged. Her saw blades, which she most often tags, return to her at about the speed of a thrown frisbee. Smaller objects return faster and larger ones slower. If she has multiple objects tagged at once, she can choose which ones return to her, so she can choose just one to return, some, or all.

Because of her limited scope of focus for her semblance, Aca had learned to cause the saw blades to spin when returning to her. However this is the only modification she can do to anything she pulls back and it only applies to the saws.

Combat Behavior:  Aca is a close to mid range fighter. Her combat strategy usually consists of starting the fight close ranged and then forcing it further and further apart. She’ll start out fighting in close quarters with her weapon, throwing short ranged saw blades and eventually moving further and further away with longer ranges attacks and eventually utilizing her semblance to keep her opponent at range. This works very well for CQC centric opponents, however, for close-mid fighters like her, she usually just has to turn the fight into a battle of attrition, waiting to see who gives out first. She tries to use her weapon as a form of shield, as it is unusually wide for a sword, but this is only half effective for mid range opponents.

Her weaknesses are absolutely apparent when fighting a purely long ranged fighter as she has little to no way of reaching them or when fighting someone using high amounts of dust in her attack as using her weapon as a shield is nearly useless.

WEAPON

Name: Slingah

Inspiration:

Primary Form: An unusually wide hand and a half sword. The entire weapon itself is somewhat concave, with the handle and blade meeting in a jutting point then both receding the further each gets. The blade itself is only sharp on the outer side. On the inner side it is split and open to allow for the second form to be used. Toe to tip, the entire sword is five feet long, with the blade being 3.5 feet and the handle being 1.5 feet. Though the entire sword is hard metal, save for the grip which is tan leather, it’s entirely painted and detailed to appear as though it’s a wooden baseball bat. It has a light tan color with darker streaks and swirls spinning around it giving the impression of being cut from wood and it even has a “Alapelagias Slugger” imprinted in an oval on the widest part of the blade.

Secondary Form: The secondary form isn’t really a form as much as it an alternative way to attack. In truth, the primary description is only half of the weapon. On the inner side of the blade, there is a slot extending from the base of the blade all the way to the tip, as well as a trigger on the inner side of the handle. The slot extends about 3 inches deep and is filled with 5 sets of electromagnets on either side and a small laser detection system with each set. Aca’s secondary method of attack is loading five, six inch, circular saw blades into the slot. Each saw blade is loaded between a set of magnets which lock them into place. Each set of electromagnets and detector is tied to the trigger. With a single trigger pull, the first set of magnets will unlock the saw blade and Aca can swing the weapon like a bat to send the saw flying through the air. Once the first saw has been sent, the detector on the first slot will detect that the saw is gone and the next trigger pull with deactivate the next saw.

Aca can pull the trigger once to release a single saw, multiple times to release multiple, or hold it to release all.

Details: When all saws are loaded, Aca has to hold the weapon with both hands and can swing it at a relatively slow speed for the RWBYverse. Because the first saw has little to no travel time, it also has low range. However, with a full set of saws, the weapon can be used as a dual edged sword instead of a single edged sword.

To put it simply, the more saw blades there are: The more she can use both sides, the lower the range of the saws, the slower the sword.

The less saw blades there are: The less she can use both sides, the higher the range, the faster the sword.

At full saws, she needs to use both hands to swing the sword, but starting at two remaining saws she can swing it properly with one hand. With full swinging power, the first saw blade can be launched 10 feet, the second 20 feet, and so on with a maximum on the last sawblade of 50 feet.

Dust Functions: N/A

Gear: Considering she doesn’t need pouches for ammo or dust, Aca has less pouches and belts and nooks and crannies than your average huntress in training. Instead, she has a small, black, circular backpack that she stores extra saw blades in. The backpack itself is similarly colored to the black of her jacket, though it has her symbol emblazoned in light red on the front.

In addition, she has a smaller circular pouch attached to her pants, just below the jacket. The pouch, like the bag and most of the jacket, is black. It’s also very thin, only able to hold five saw blades in it.

Because both the bag and pouch hold saw blades, the insides and outsides are more hardened and more resistant to rips and tears than the rest of her clothing.

History: Aca constructed this during her time in Harbor academy and repainted it to look like a bat before traveling to Haven.

RPG Announcements / Happy 4th Anniversary, RWBY RPG!
« on: September 10, 2017, 11:00:11 PM »
It's been four long years that I've been trapped in this hole using this site. Joined on opening day, immediately became a shitty user and writer, was for unknown reasons promoted to staff, etc. and as sappy as it sounds, this place is great. Sure, maybe threads don't always get finished and sure, maybe sometimes the staff is a bit lazy, but I really think this is a good community and I wanted to thank everyone for making it that way.

Now as for your anniversary presents, some of you may know that we're planning on going to the v5 board soon. It's a lot of work and Vox is stressing over it so just be patient. We'll get there eventually and it doesn't have to be immediate since there's no real danger from staying on this board. Just to answer a question that may be popping in some of your heads, no you won't have to resubmit your characters for the v5 board. Posts and all that are being ported over.

One special thing about the v5 board is going to be the banner. instead of that plain ol' logo, we're going to have a rotating group of pictures. See, about a month ago we had an idea. Why not give a little pat on the back to a few of the people on the site that have been around for a long time, helped out with the site, or kept it from not being paid for and disappearing. Soooooooooo we had a thing commissioned by our good artist friend Piyu! These things to be specific https://imgur.com/a/ipPqu https://imgur.com/a/HGB5m https://imgur.com/a/ZRrEB

If I'm not mistaken in what Vox has said, the banner with have six of the individual characters at a time and randomizes who's on it each refresh. Now, obviously there are still plenty of people who have been around a while or done cool things here, but we only had room for 12 for this commission. More will be added later, though interactions between the current characters may be commissioned first. Still unsure on that.

Love you guys, XOXOXO

The Longest Winter
The year is 70 AC and Mistral is enjoying a time of great prosperity. Advancements in their ships made their trading empire grow day by day and even the lowest class of citizens were beginning to enjoy the wealth. A golden era was on the horizon. Of course, in Remnant, golden eras never truly arrive. In the fall of that year, two of the checkpoints in the vallys surrounding Mistral were broken, letting in hordes of Grimm. Although the city was able to repel most of the monsters, many residential housing areas in the lower city were lost and quarantined along with several agricultural sections of the city. The fear that came following the attack attracted more and more Grimm to the city and surrounding villages, leading to several losses of farms that would have sent food to the city in exchange for protection. All of this came together during the winter in the form of food and housing shortages for the citizens of Mistral, made only worse as refugees from fallen villages arrived at their gates. After a long and hard winter, the healing process finally began. Unfortunately for faunus, however, it seemed that human housing was gaining priority and tensions between the two races rose.

The White Fang Reborn
Following the near collapse of Mistral, several of the members of the White Fang became tired with the passivity that the group had taken to the prioritization of human homes. Soon, a group of angry members usurped the leader of the White Fang, killing her as a show of power. Many of the members of the White Fang distanced themselves from the group following that and many more left all together. They would return though, slowly over the years surely, but they would return. Once they saw the fear and respect the Fang gained after racists were hung in front of police stations, business establishments were broken into for refusing service, and people started to be more cautious about insulting faunus. They would all return to gain that respect and follow their new leader, King, and his council of five.

Grounded
Following King taking power of the White Fang, one of his first missions was a hostile takeover of a section of the mountain range to the southwest of Mistral containing several mining operations that provided materials for airships. It was a perfect victory. Within hours, the mine had been cleared out and the humans who had fought back were injured or killed. Once it had been confirmed that the entirety of the mines had been cleared, King sent the remaining humans away to Mistral on Bullheads and offered new jobs to hundreds of the faunus left homeless following the crisis and offered increased wages and better security to those faunus who already worked within the mines. It took time, but eventually the White Fang gained some public favor, many of the faunus within the Kingdom began to see them as a new era of faunus equality. As soon as public favor grew, King met with several of the members of the Mistrali council via video, taking several measures to be untraceable and unrecognizable, including donning a mask stylized like a Beowolf. After a many talks taking the place over several weeks, an agreement was reached. The White Fang would sell the materials from the mine to Mistral just as before as long as only faunus were involved in bringing the materials to Mistral.

Forging a New Relationship
Waking up following the near collapse of Mistral with no memories, the man that would soon be known as Blacksmith was just a young wolf faunus. After spending several days wandering the ruins of the western residential area, hiding from Grimm and scrounging for food, he was found and protected by a group of White Fang members. After he was picked up by a group of hunters and brought to Haven, he remembers how he had been saved by the White Fang. In a year’s time, when he’d lost all purpose and strength, the man who saved him visited again and convinced him to join the Mistali Fang.

A Prophecy Foretold
A young panda faunus forced to work like a slave in mines of Atlas, the girl who would be known as Soothsayer was broken and malnourished. As her contact with other people waned with her health as she was used for labor, she soon found a group of miners donning the masks of Grimm. For the first time in a long time she felt the gentle touch of another as one of the miners unlocked her aura and allowed her to escape. Unfortunately, her semblance caused a chain reaction of volatile Dust and landed her in a hospital. After taking a couple years to fully recover and moving down to Vale, she finds the ones who helped her were known as the White Fang, and was intent on paying them back by joining the Valish Fang.

Painting the Town
An orphaned raven faunus as far as she could remember, the girl that would be known as Artist eventually was lucky enough to have three families. The couple that adopted her and provided her with happiness and an upbringing was the first. The second was her team at beacon, made of friends she had hoped to teach and learn from. Unfortunately, while out on the town one night, those ideas came to an end. A group of angry human supremacists cornered the faunus team members and brutally beat them down, taking advantage of the drunkenness of the team. Artist barely escaped with her life, but was forced to have one of her wings severed. Thankfully, she received a replacement prosthetic wing from a beneficiary. After that, she came to meet her third family, the White Fang, and pledged to fight against the humans who had killed her friends.

A Bird of a Different Feather
Another child of the near collapse, Cornix was just a small owl faunus of sixteen when the walls fell. Her home, the home she and her parent had lived in since she had been born, fell to the hordes just in time for the family to escape to a safe zone. Her dream of attending Sanctum the following year had to be put on hold for six whole years while she tried to help her parents just get by in the shelters. In those six years she watched as human residential areas be built one after another, leaving faunus with ruins until they found it was “appropriate” to accommodate them. By the time she was able to finally attend her first year of Haven at the age of twenty two, she knew there was only one path for her, the White Fang.

Running Rampant
A young tiger faunus girl, born into a loving family of Vale that was on the rails for failure. When it came to light that her mother had an affair with a White Fang member, the divorce was ugly, painful, and drawn out. And, in the end, her mother’s boyfriend beat her father bloody and threw him out. Impressionable, young, Rampage took this as a sign that people who do get what they want in the world, while people who sit on their hands get the short end of the stick. It might be no surprise then, that she mistook a destructive, violent, White Fang member for a savior and role model, eventually joining the Valish branch herself.

New Members and Temporary Visitors
As the Vytal Festival draws near, students from every corner in the world flock to Vale, the White Fang took the opportunity to begin their plans in Vale, after letting the valish branch squirm and fade away for so long. Cornix and Blacksmith were among the first sent over, and would both come to attend Beacon’s welcoming ceremony under the disguise of students.

Operation: Skyjack
A White Fang consisting of Cornix and two mercenaries, Alizarin Rust and Nox Aeterna, boarded an Atlesian military cargo ship leaving Vale. Once aboard, they split into two teams. Alizarin went and disabled the ship after grabbing a mysterious object encased in a metal cylinder. Meanwhile, Cornix and Nox took care of the soldiers and Atlesian Knights on the ship before silencing brigadier general Mosley of the Atlas military. Upon completion of the mission, all three of them escaped by jumping onto an adjacent bullhead, commandeered by the Fang. The cylinder was then sent to the Mistral HQ by Cornix.

Hunting the Beast
Shortly after the two meet for the first time, Cornix brings Artist onto her team and they both lead a small strike team to assault and sedate an emperor Taijitu. Upon completion of the mission, Cornix had Artist escort the rest of the team and the Grimm back to a holding area while she made her way to Vale and began to work on the sewage system leading out of the city.

Eklispei Gray, Xanh Kurstein, Bianca Li
Eklipsei Gray leads a team of two students to catch a criminal going by the name of "The Lord of Nevermore". As they arrive on the scene they had been tipped off about, they quickly realize it was a trap as an Emperor Taijitu is released through the sewers and into the streets of Vale. After Eklipsei is knocked through a building and taken out of the fight, both of students quickly find out that they are outmatched by the Grimm. While they fought a hard battle, the Grimm handedly defeated them, severely wounding them destroying the buildings around it. It wasn't long until Hunters and Huntresses arrived on the scene and defeated the Grimm, but it was too late for the faunus housing area.

In the early morning, two unknown human mercenaries carried out a bombing in a downtown residential district. The two bombs they placed and detonated caused a collapse of two apartment complexes.
Thankfully, many were out of their home at their jobs, but many others weren't. The collapse killed almost a hundred people, but thanks to the efforts of several students in the area, many survivors who were trapped within the rubble were saved. Later in the week, the White Fang dropped the bodies of two human supremacists off at the door of the police station who seemed to match the reports of the mercenaries.

Malina Nahualli, Calen Shrike, Teddy Williams, Helena Chlophyll, Cobe Sky

NPC Profiles / Magic
« on: September 04, 2017, 11:32:23 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Unknown

Codename: Magic

Age: Unknown

Species and Gender: Male Peafowl Faunus

Symbol: N/A

Occupation: Valish White Fang Lieutenant

Appearance: Magic is of average height and of lean build, standing at 5’8” and with a rather toned musculature. He has rather tan skin, and watchful green eyes. His once black, spiked hair has been since bleached, with a few errant, yet noticeable streaks of his hair’s original color. However, his most defining feature has to be the train of peacock feathers extending from the base of his spine. This four foot long grouping of feathers can and has been a hinderance to care for, as it has dragged across the ground on multiple occasions, but like the bird the trait is derived from, the feathers can fan out, making a large and quite distracting display behind him. These feathers have been dyed from their original blues, blacks, and greens to be white and red.

Magic is often clad in his own variation of the whites, reds, and blacks that consist of the White Fang robes. His black undersuit consists of a sleeveless shirt and baggy pants, with black gloves that go up his forearms but not past the elbow. His robes have no right sleeve, only one long flowing one on his left. The collar of his robes is not reinforced, and the garment is held at the waist with a black belt. His Halberd, Grace, is often found on the rear of his belt, and he has several small belts holding throwing knives strewn across his chest and covered arm.

Spoiler: ShowHide

History: Not much is known of Magic's history, though he did start appearing the same time as Cornix, implying he traveled to Vale from Mistral.

Personality: Magic is dutiful, well aware that he and his brethren are frequently vilified by the public, and ready to fight for them at the drop of a hat. He values respect above all else, and carries himself as one to be respected. He holds his Captain in high regard, though he does tend to see her as more of a mentor than a commanding officer. While he does have an intense distaste for humans, he will not go out of his way to harm them. They are still people with lives, no matter how much they act like animals.

Aura and Semblance: Unknown

Combat Behavior: Not seen in direct combat yet.

Helm also has red “highlights”, as well as hardened leather hanging down around the rim. Typically puts on some sort of thick cap before his helmet for comfort.

History: Not much is known about Rider's past other that he's been in the kingdom of Vale for some years. Though he mainly stays out of the city, he has been seen near bordering villages before.

Personality: Rider is significantly less resentful of humans then the rest of the White Fang, opting more and more often to spare lives and send a message of equality rather than just fear. He is kind to anyone who he believes deserves it, and a nightmare to anyone else.

NPC Profiles / Blacksmith
« on: September 04, 2017, 10:14:15 PM »
Character

Name: Unknown

Codename: Blacksmith

Age: Unknown

Gender & Species: Male Wolf Faunus

Symbol: N/A

White Fang Occupation: Valish/Mistrali Captain

Appearance: Standing at 5'8" and weighing in at 154lbs, Blacksmith is deceptive in his threatening nature. His White Fang outfit is of very dark coloration, so it’s pretty edgy. Blacksmith has a completely black mask, and the visor is shaped like a T and colored red, and it covers a good amount of the mask. After that, is a bunch of red lines through the exterior of the mask as if it was a Grimm. Inside the mask is a voice changer that makes it hard to distinguish who is behind the mask. Alongside the mask is a black hood that came from the black undershirt he has on. Over the undershirt is a black lightweight kevlar vest, and black leather jacket that is bullet proof and it remains unzipped. Blacksmith wears black leggings that are a bit loose, but not enough to make it hard to be flexible. On the back of his jacket is a big White Fang symbol to clearly show his allegiance.

History: Not much is known other than he appeared in Vale at the same time Cornix did, implying he too is from Mistral.

Personality: While Blacksmith is ruthless and bloodthirsty, he is also extremely subservient to those with more power than he. At his core, he believes he is a weapon for the white fang to use to achieve their shared goals.

Aura & Semblance: Unknown

Combat Behavior: Not seen in direct combat yet.

WEAPON

Name: Iron & Steel

Primary Form: Iron is a steel gauntlet that has dust vents in the palm of the gauntlet, with it being hooked up to a dust revolver chamber strapped onto his forearms. Its color scheme is a mix of a majority of white and a minority of black, with it being quite sleek. The revolver chamber, although six, can only hold the powdered form of three dusts. Steel is the exact same thing except swap the colors on the design. Both are quite durable on their own, and can be used as a standalone weapon, but it’s mostly used to amplify Blacksmith's semblance.

Dust Function: Iron & Steel takes any dust crystals, but it can only use one at a time. Blacksmith only use certain dusts due to the fact that he did not have enough time to calibrate it to certain dust crystals. Due to that, he’s locked to those three dust crystals for now, which is lightning, ice, and fire dust.
Blacksmith is currently experimenting with other dust to create more variability, but without a dust user to assist in calibrating Iron and Steel, he’s stuck to those three dust types until he finds more time to undergo this research.

History: There’s not much to be discussed about it, but there seems to be a forgotten history behind it...

NPC Profiles / Artist

Character

Name:Unknown

Codename: Artist

Age: Unknown

Gender & Species: Female Raven Faunus

Symbol: N/A

Occupation: Valish White Fang Lieutenant

Appearance: Artist is 5’10” and wears a large white brim hat that goes over head and creates a fit for her mask. Her mask is one that looks like a plague doctor would wear, with it being white and the eyes as red slits to create that ‘Grimm’ image. She wears black gloves and black leggings. Artist wears a white shirt, and over that is a long white overcoat that goes down to her knees but starts to part at the area around the thighs. Under the overcoat is where she stuffs her hair to keep it away from battle. On the overcoat is the White Fang Symbol on the back of it. Most of her outfit IS made to be bulletproof as she relies on her aura for everything else that would not qualify as a bullet. She wears black combat boots with the whole outfit. The area where the stumps would usually be sticking out of the overcoat and it would have black metal wings plugged into them that has extra shielding for it to be used as armor.

Uniform: ShowHide

History: Not much is known about artist other than that they've been active for several years, implying that they are Valish in origin.

Personality: Artist is rather darker and jaded, often incorporating that as much as she could into conversations. She also seems to be a bit bloodthirsty, even compared to others within the Fang. Artist has no mercy to give and would slaughter those in her way without regret. Caught and twisted into an angel of death… Well, how can she say no? After all, when is stuck with no hope, it would only make sense that the one who provides hope would have her wrapped around their finger.

She also likes to paint. Especially with blood of her enemies. Have fun with that.

Aura & Semblance: Her aura is a bright white, but her semblance has yet to be seen.

Combat Behavior: Artist has been in several confrontation with authorities and hunters and if it all had to boil down to one word, it would be ruthless. She's extremely agressive with her weapon and focuses all remaining attention on her aura.

WEAPON

Name: Judgement

Dust Function: It’s powered by fire dust to heat up the blade part of the weapon.

History: She recreated her original weapon but improved it as much as she could and re-accessorize it in order to stay incognito & anonymous. Now no one can remember what the weapon originally was. Except for a few people with a seeing eye...

Appearance: Approximately 5’6” and 144 lbs. Like most members of the white fang, she wears the standard uniform, though with some changes. As with lieutenants, her armor has a large collar, protecting the neck, and a full face mask, though hers seemed to be in the style of a plague doctor's mask, hiding her identity, however the uniform kept the long sleeves, hood, and gloves from the lower grunt uniform. Around her hips, her white fang sword and pistol lay in their holsters, though like the uniform they have their modifications.

WEAPON

Name: WF_SHG09

Primary Form: A standard issue White Fang handgun, with minimal dust modifications.

Dust Functions: Depending on the type of Dust inserted, the bullets can take different effects.

History: These weapons were given to Lennox when she joined the fang. After some time she made a few modifications to each weapon.

Malina stood on the docks of Beacon, looking out at the large body of water that separated Beacon from the rest of the city. The sun was still behind the giant towers of Beacon and cast a shadow down onto the still waters far below. With a yawn, she turned around to the Bullhead behind her. She could see the pilot sitting in the cockpit making final adjustments and gave him a small halfhearted wave as she passed by. She walked around to the back of the bullhead and checked her scroll before stepping inside, 5:58 AM.

She looked down at her seat down next to her, her staff leaning against the wall of the bullhead next to it and Manticore curled up below it. She smiled slightly as she pulled off her jacket and placed it onto the seat as well, wouldn't need that where she was going. She looked down at her outfit once more, making sure she wasn't forgetting anything. Boots, check. Heavy pants and no skirt, check. No jacket, check. Corset, check. White undershirt, check. It was a simpler version of what she usually wore into combat, sure, but the belt around her waist let her keep all the supplies she needed and the lack of the flowing skirt or jacket would keep her from getting snagged on a branch. 'Just hope the kids know how to dress...' She thought as she took a seat and waited for the students to arrive.

Plot Zone / Malina's Magnificent Mission! [Closed]

Malina Nahualli, the new teacher's assistant to Titania, has been given the opportunity to oversee a group of students conducting a higher class mission. Following her overseeing a training exercise that left two severely injured and and two more with harsh punishment, some of the professors see this decision as foolish. But what do they know?

This mission is the investigation of a village gone dark on the southern coast of the kingdom of Vale, the swamp land surrounding the village has been known to be crawling with all sorts of ghastly and gruesome Grimm, all just waiting for the right human or faunus to pluck from a group and take care of.

The town of Jackson has long stood against the tides of Grimm, having been set up on a hill overlooking a clearing in the swamps and on top of their own dust mine, so it's suspicious that such a well protected city would go dark without so much as a warning or call for help.

The mission is simple. Make your way through the swamp, get to Jackson, identify any survivors or the cause of the the silence, make your way back through the swamp, and get out.

CHARACTER

Name: Kol Augur

Age: 30 - born Tulikuuma 13th, 50 AC

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol: Augury

Occupation: Mercenary, Ex-Atlesian Special Ops

Appearance: Kol stands at a towering 6’5”, and weighs 183 lbs. He has a very muscular frame, taken from his time in the Atlesian special ops and his time as a mercenary. He has short, charcoal colored, windswept hair that reaches halfway down his neck and hazel eyes. Though most of his irises are a dark greenish brown, there is a golden hue encircled around the center. His right eye, though it looks just like his left, is actually a cybernetic replacement given to him while he was in the Atlesian military. He has scarring around where the cybernetic eye now is from when he had lost it to a piece of shrapnel.

While he was clean shaven when he was in the military, he has since taken to keeping his would-be beard down to a light stubble, though he does have a scar on the right side of his upper lip that keeps any hair from growing above it. His face, to any stranger, would seem like one that’s grown tired, from either fighting or just the world, but he betrays this and very rarely appears unhappy or interested.

His combat outfit is made up mostly of his old Atlesian armor, a glorious white chestpiece with a raised collar highlighted in yellow, similarly colored shoulder pads, and white armor running down his arms, ending in small white plates protecting the back of his hands, and two white shin guards. Overtop of his armor, he wears a weathered old bomber jacket, with a white fur lining on the inside and a heavy, charcoal colored, leather exterior. The jacket has two zipper pockets on either side of the stomach and is able to be zipped up, though Kol usually leaves it open, easily revealing the armored chestpiece underneath,

Below his armor, he wears the standard black undershirt and combat pants, complete with several easy to reach pockets, steel toed combat boots, and black gloves with hardened knuckles. Around his waist, he wears his old utility belt, with several pouches for storing ammunition and dust hung all around it.

He’s made some adjustments of his own to the armor and belt, most notably, he left behind the helmet and its iconic heads up display in favor of using the targeting and display in his new eye. In addition to that, he added a magnetic lock to the back of his chestplate to store his rifle as well as a smaller magnetic lock on his left hip for his side arm.

Approximation of what he looks like

History: Kol likes to say he was born into his job. His father fought and served in the Atlesian military in the fight against the faunus during their revolt, his grandfather before him fought and died in the Greyed War, his mother had fought for years before deciding to leave and settle down. When Kol was born, his father had finally finished his final tour and returned home to the child he’d missed the birth of. His father loved his son and his wife deeply, but the war and the things he’d done, the things he’d been told from his own father, they left scars on the man. He did his best to keep himself together for the sake of his child, but his wife knew that he wasn’t entirely the same man she’d met over ten years prior anymore. He tried to talk his son out of attending the Atlas military school once he came of age, but both his and his wife’s pleas fell on deaf ears.

Kol was determined to rise in the classes after he was accepted into Atlas, even at a young age, he knew what he’d wanted to join the ranks of the military. He had no special love for Atlas, no great desire to protect his home and loved ones from foreign invaders, all he had was a calling, a feeling in his gut and his heart that it was what he was meant to do. He’d heard of hunters and huntresses, how they obtained superhuman feats and warded off the inevitable threat of the Grimm. He’d always known that they were a necessary part of the world, to keep everything from falling apart at the seams, but he also knew that there were things that they wouldn’t do, jobs they wouldn’t take, either because they simply wouldn’t stoop so low as to go after a simple murderer or because the Grimm was a more pressing matter. In the beginning, that’s what he understood that he was for, Hunters were there to stop the inhuman and he was there to stop the human. He’d be damned if they lasted longer than he did, however, and went to one of the teachers for the hunters side of the academy to unlock his aura.

When news came of his father’s suicide following his graduation from his academy, it threw Kol down a winding tunnel of drinking, self pity, regret, doubt, more drinking, selfish thoughts, more drinking, and finally acceptance after nearly a year of grief. He’d been given some weeks of leave before officially starting in the military proper given his father’s suicide but even still he came in a week before his required date to get started. He told others that he was fine, that he’d moved on, but it was really just to take his mind off of the spiral of thoughts.

Time came and went and Kol eventually moved on. He had been in the forces for over a year now and had been placed into a marksman division. His squad was almost like a family to him, a shallow replacement for his missing father and now reclusive mother. He knew exactly what it was though and he accepted it, the why didn’t matter as much as the relief.

Another year went by and he rose through the ranks, eventually being promoted to the special operations department and placed on a team specially tasked with taking out high priority targets as the local marksman expert. At the same time as his promotion, word began to circle about specialist in the military, a hunter who had chosen to stick with Atlas even after getting their license. Janus Rogo was described as a nigh unbeatable force, going after Grimm and people a-like and Kol finally had something to look up to again. This man, only five years his senior, was like a wrecking ball in the stories he’d heard. It was then that he decided he would strive to match the specialists in power, but focus everything he could on the human element.

And so, Kol did what he was told. He was sent on missions, he set up position, a body was dropped, intel was collected, and he returned to base. The cycle repeated, week in and week out. Every mission brought his skill higher, his aura training increased, his senses sharpened, he trained with another of his squad in melee combat with a sword and dagger, he practiced precision and harder and harder shots. He grew and his squad grew with him, their team rose higher and higher and their missions became more priority driven. Some spoke about their team being a new staple of the military, granting them more powerful tech, higher levels of clearance, and in spite of this, their names were never made public. As far as they knew, the missions were completed by several different anonymous teams. That didn’t bother Kol though, he was never in it for the recognition.

All it really takes to ruin a team's reputation is one bad mission with public consequences. During Kol’s final official mission, his team was chosen to travel down to Mistral, several years following the breach of the walls. Their mission was simple, retrieve intel on a suspected White Fang arms deal taking place within the inner sea and dispatch the informant. The current intel suggested there would be an additional meeting prior to the deal within an abandoned town along the coast. As the team arrived, Kol made his way to a small mountain overlooking the town with a small cave in the side while the rest of the team made their way to the edge of the village.

He got into position, as he had so many times before, and moved his scope over the village, checking the dilapidated houses and buildings for any sign of movement. He called out that the village was all clear over the comms and as he did, something heavy slammed into the back of his head. When he came to, minutes later, he had been haphazardly tied to a rock cropping within the small cave with a masked faunus standing in front of him, holding a glistening knife. He demanded to know what Kol knew, why he was doing this, what his name was. He refused the demands and was swiftly kicked in the gut, causing him to lurch forward. As he bent over, the faunus grabbed him by the hair and lifted his face up. In one moment, Kol held a fierce resilience and in the next moment, the knife was plunged into his eye, twisting before ripping out. His vision went black for several seconds, both eyes failing him, as thoughts began to swirl within him. He could see bits and pieces of the life of the man who stood before him. Only it wasn’t seeing, nor was it voices in his head telling him the events of his life. He could feel his life simultaneously with all of his senses and with none of them as if he were the man standing before him. It all went through him in seconds and yet he understood it all, the things he’s been through, the things he’d done, and in the end, the feeling of killing the man below him, missing an eye and tied to a rock.

As Kol’s vision returned to him, a shot rang out, breaking the screams of pain that had been the previously loudest noise, and the faunus fell over, bleeding from the temple. Behind him stood the squad leader, blood dripping from their shoulder. As they untied Kol and wrapped a bandage around his head they told him that the intel was acquired but at the cost of the other two members and that evac was already on its way.

Kol and his leader waited in that cave, ready to fire on anyone that came in, but no one came. The silence of the wilderness around the broken only by the howls of Grimm that had now entered the village. When the Bullhead finally arrived and brought them home, Kol was brought to an immediate care center as his leader went to base to turn in the intel. It was there, in that medical bed a week later, that he saw the news of Janus’ mission gone awry. The claims of bad intel, the dead innocents, all of it. When Kol’s leader finally returned to inform him of the chance to get a cybernetic eye, he activated his new found semblance and ran through the life of his leader and trusted friend in just seconds, unwillingly skipping from time to time to place to place. Of course he did, he had to know what the intel was, he couldn’t just not know, it was important. He needed to know.

But his newly awakened semblance lacked control, fineness, and he saw and heard and felt and tasted nothing that resembled what could have been the information. He did see things, though. Lived through them like he was actually there. Things done in secret, things they were forced to do, things they enjoyed doing. Kol was disgusted. But he still. Needed. To know.

And so he accepted the offer, the offer to take the cybernetic eye and the offer to continue taking missions, under the guise of wanting to get back at the ones who caused the loss of his squad mates. Every mission, every superior, every soldier, week after week, mission after mission, Kol trained his semblance on. He learned horrible things, horrible truths, about each and every one of them. Months went by, his semblance became more controlled, and just as he thought maybe he could try again with his leader and finally learn what happened, they died on the field. Bullet to the back of the head from a member of the fang, just like how they had killed Kol’s would be killer.

Kol was distraught, not at losing a friend or teammate, but at losing the source of the information. That pain of loss subsided quickly as he realized that there would have to be others who knew, higher ups somewhere in the chain that knew about the mission. So he continued. He kept taking missions, now solo and nameless to the public, using his semblance to look into every possible person. Every soldier, higher ups, munitions officers, engineers, civilians passing by on the street. Years went by and as the knowledge of horrible acts within the people around him grew, the thirst for the truth slowly faded. Not because he’d moved on but because after years of seeing each and everyone's secrets and pasts, he’d grown numb to anything that it could possibly be. There wasn’t anything he could learn from those around him that could shock or disgust him anymore and it was then that Kol realized something.

Everything done here, everything done by the military, by the kingdom, by the world, it wasn’t done in service to a higher calling or a moral requirement. It was done in the service of the almighty lien. As this dawned on him, Kol spent the next year tracking information, using his semblance on important people, collecting massive amounts of blackmail to be finally used as he informed his superior and his superior’s superior that he was through. That he would be going to freelance jobs elsewhere and that, officially, he was to be marked KIA. He told them that he was taking his gear and weapons and eye and striping them of any tracking capabilities and that they would let this happen because if they tried so much as to slow him down he would ruin the their careers, the careers of their children, their superiors, their family, their entire public life and the integrity of Atlas. He convinced them to keep quiet about the whole event, to falsify the paperwork. He convinced them the trouble of letting him go would be well outweighed by the trouble that would come if they didn’t.

And so Kol left Atlas, leaving his now near amnesic mother with a parting gift of a bouquet of roses before heading out, and made his way to Mistral, chose a new name, Kol Augur, and got to work taking jobs within the dark reaches of the kingdom. He made sure never to make a name for himself, he was never in it for the recognition after all. All he made sure to do was get the job, get it done quick, kill whoever it was that needed to be killed, and enjoy his life free of the constraints of the Atlesian Military.

TL;DR: ShowHide
Kol was basically born into the military and joined as soon as he could, despite his dad telling him not to. When he graduated, his dad committed suicide but Kol pressed on. Over the years he rose through the ranks as a sniper and was eventually promoted to Special Ops. Knew of Janus during the time when he was basically a war hero. Went a mission to secure intel, mission went sideways, he lost his right eye (Which was replaced with a cybernetic eye) and two teammates. Intel that was retrieved turned out to be bad intel and caused Janus to sink three boats, one with innocents on it. Following that, Kol tried very hard to find out what the intel was with his semblance but after years of trying and failing and learning horrible truths instead, he grew numb to it all and said "Fuck it, I'm going solo. If you try to chase me, I'll end your careers and the careers of everyone you care about." and now he's a mercenary.

Personality: Kol is a surprisingly jolly fellow when he’s not on the job. Easy to strike up a conversation and knock back a few drinks with while trading stories of battles. He wasn’t always so happy, though. The determined young man who was hellbent on finding out the truth about his failed mission had died years ago, and the young, starry-eyed boy who had joined the military to do the right thing had died longer than that. Now, all that remains is a man who’s come to accept the evils in the world and his place amongst it. His loyalty lies in the money and the money alone, with him being willing to take almost any job from anyone if he can complete it and it pays the bills. While his life in Atlas filled him with general disdain for faunus, he’s more than willing to look past any racial issues to take a job, even if that job is in service to the white fang.

When he’s properly on the job, he relies heavily on taking out his target or targets within the first few seconds of engagement and if that fails, he falls on the crutch of his semblance to learn of anything in their past that he can use against them and to learn of their combat style. He’s become quite effective at lying through his teeth when he needs to and isn’t above using lies to take down someone or make them drop their guard.

Of all the things that Kol threw away from Atlas, his mother is the one thing that truly mattered, that he made sure not to completely sever ties with. Though she’s reaching on in years and isn’t long for the world, he makes sure to keep in touch through his many back channels and checks up on her from time to time, though recently she’s started to forget who he even is. It tears him apart knowing that one day she too will be gone and she might very well be the only thing that keeps him tied down to the world.

Aura and Semblance: Kol’s aura is a charcoal color with specks of gold and was unlocked, along with his semblance, at the Atlesian Military Academy. Over the years, he’s finely tuned his aura to act a sixth sense, allowing him an edge in close quarter combat to counteract his relatively low close combat skill.

Iudex - Kol’s semblance is a strange one. When activated, Kol’s vision goes completely black, though there is no evidence of this from the outside. Once this happens, he can pick someone he was looking at or facing and once the choice is made, thoughts begin to flood his head. Their actions, past, present, and future, all flow into him and crowd his mind for several seconds as stands utterly still.

The semblance can see the entire extent of someone’s past clearly but their future is only a foggy outline of what could be. This takes no aura or stamina to do and though it leaves Kol immobile for a moment, it is exceptionally useful for both playing psychological warfare and for figuring out the fighting style of his opponent. The semblance has no range, but he must be looking directly at the person, they can't be reflected off of a mirror or be in a picture or on TV or anything like that.

Combat Behavior:  Kol prefers not to have to get into direct conflict with his marks, but if push comes to shove he won’t back down unless necessary. He mostly sticks to his long range rifle, picking off people in a shot or two. Those with aura make the job harder and he usually has to get in a closer range so he can quickly realign his rifle between shots and relies more heavily on dust ammunition. While the rifle is made for long range, he can, in a pinch, use it close range for heavy damage. He will sometimes stick his rifle around a corner if he’s already in a fight and use his cybernetic eye link to get a view of the battlefield while getting some shots off.

When he fails to keep a fight long range, he can fall back on a few tools. He usually tries to keep some range up by using his handgun, though if that fails he’s willing to use the second forms of his weapons and use a sword and dagger. While fighting with his sword and dagger, he generally tries to play more on the side of caution, deflecting, backing away, deflecting, and getting a shot in when he can. In a pinch, if needs to escape, he has a few tricks up his sleeve like using a smoke grenade to obscure his attacker’s vision or using his semblance to strike a bargain with something they may not want getting out.

While Kol is an extremely deadly and advanced combatant, he isn’t invincible. He isn’t as good with close range combat as he is with ranged and can be completely outclassed by a mixed combatant if they keep the fight close ranged or a close range specialist. In the same vein, while his aura provides him a sort of sixth sense for danger outside of his vision, surprise attacks will still put him at a disadvantage. Possibly most importantly, Kol was always trained as a human fighter, he fought and killed people. He has minimalist survival training when it comes to Grimm and is by no means an expert at fighting them, choosing to avoid them when he’s out on missions in the wild.

WEAPON 1

Name: Fidelis

Primary Form: Fidelis’ main form is that of a heavily modified Atlesian Military issued sniper rifle. An extended rifle with a faded white frame, grey underbarrel grips and handle, and black trims. There are a set of toggleable light blue lights scattered around the gun, but Kol tends to leave them turned off. The modifications he’s made include removing the scope, adding a camera system that connects to his cybernetic eye to the barrel, a small version of his gradient symbol on the stock, and after many many days and several failed attempts he’s managed to turn once normal sniper rifle into a transformable hunters weapon.

The rifle is semi-automatic and though he prefers to take deliberate shots from afar, he can use it as a mid ranged weapon in a firefight.

Secondary Form: A retractable blade comes out of the bottom of the barrel as the grip of the gun folds back as the top of the gun folds downward, reducing the size. The second form of Fidelis is a 30 in. sword, complete with the Atlas flair of small light blue lights and a white finish.

Dust Functions: Dust rounds can be loaded into the gun to pack an extra punch, but other than that it has no functions.

Fire Dust - Explosive rounds.
Ice Dust - Freezes area around where the bullet hit.
Lightning Dust - Lets out a burst of lightning in a small area around the point of impact.
Wind Dust - Causes the bullet to speed up considerably, less drop off.
Steam Dust - Creates a cloud of steam at the point of impact large enough to envelope a person.
Kinetic Dust - Less damage, more knock back.
Gravity Dust - Caused objects and people in a 3 meter wide radius to be pulled in toward the point of impact for a brief moment. People in this range feel like someone wrapped a rope around them and suddenly tugged hard on it.

History: Given to him on his promotion to special ops, he has since heavily modified the weapon.

WEAPON 2

Name: Memento

Primary Form: Kol’s secondary weapon is a modified standard issue handgun. Just like the rifle, it is mainly white, with a gray under barrel and black highlights. Just like the rifle, the blue lights are turned off unless in its secondary form.

Secondary Form: A retractable blade pops out, this time from the top, as the grip fold all the way back, transforming the handgun into a simple dagger. The dagger form of Memento, unlike the sword form of Fidelis, can still fire while transformed.

History: Kol was given this weapon during his time in the Atlesian military, but has modified it over the years.

Gear

Cybernetic Eye: Kol’s right eye was replaced by a cybernetic eye when he was 24. The eye allows him to toggle between normal vision, thermal imaging, night vision, and “aim down sights”. ADS allows him to see where his rifle is pointing, instead of relying on a scope. The eye connects to a camera system placed slightly above the end of the barrel, and features adjustable zoom, a sniper’s reticle with range finding and Thermal imaging/night vision just like the normal eye. Though the eye looks nearly identical to his left eye, if one were to look close enough, half a foot away from Kol’s face at least, they would notice electronic markings no the iris and pupil.

History: A cybernetic eye given to him following a mission that ended in him losing his right eye.

Jump Jet: A strap on, dust powered, Atlesian Special Ops issued jetpack. Like most Atlesian equipment, it is a brilliant white color with grey and black highlights and trims. A powerful, and expensive, piece of equipment that Kol keeps in well repair, the jump jet allows for short and powerful bursts of kinetic dust from its four ports, letting the wearer jump incredibly high, dodge very quickly, or slow a fall. The dust batteries that power it are close enough to the body to be covered by aura, but the ports are not, allowing them to be shot in combat.

Credit to this for the jumpjet design.

History: A piece of equipment from usually relegated to skirmishers in the special ops, Kol obtained this equipment through several contacts in Mistral and Atlas.

Monocular: Due to Kol’s semblance reliance on direct eye sight, seeing someone through just his right eye wouldn’t let him activate it. So when he was picking his equipment as he went out on missions, he chose to cut the binoculars’ weight in half and go with a monocular instead. It is mostly a normal monocular, with the exception of a built in rangefinder, both for ease and as a back up in the case of his rifle’s eye link malfunctioning.

History: A piece of equipment from his days in the military.

Smoke Grenades: Simple smoke grenades that he is able to keep stocked up on from his contacts in Mistral. Once released, it lets out a large plume of smoke capable of hiding even a Paladin for a couple minutes.

History: A piece of equipment from his days in the military.

Tactical Goggles: A pair of clear tactical goggles he picked up during a mission to Vacuo’s desert. They have a very simple HUD, showing a compass toward the top of the glass and the time near the bottom.

History: A piece of equipment from his days in the military.

Misc.: Miscellaneous equipment that he only brings if he thinks he’ll need it. 20 ft long rope, zip ties, small flashlight attachable to his shoulder,  other stuff that I’ll probably add later.

History: Bought at the store.

Old Tournaments / [Event] 1st Year Grand Finale: Nathan V Zabar [Closed]
« on: August 03, 2017, 09:18:45 PM »

The sun shins down on the colossus of a floating arena as the final airbus dropped of its occupants. An quick alarm sounded from the edges of the arena, marking the seating of the last few individuals in the stands. Throughout Vale, Sanus, throughout the entirety of Remnant people turned to their screens, eager to watch the coming fight. All of them wanting to see the which first year was going to be the first champion of the class.

Far below the sun, Vulco looks across the multiple screens set up in the announcers booth, his assistant Derek stood nearby, going over the files of the two finalists. The screens flick through camera angles, flickering to the arena floor and then to multiple angles of the crowd as Vulco presses down on a keyboard below the screens. On the screens the hundreds of spectators move almost restlessly in their seats, idly chatting with those around them about the upcoming match and showing down on overpriced concessions. Among them, Malina sits speaking happily with professor Titania seated next to her. The two exchange a few remarks and a quick chuckle from Titania before the screen flickers and changes to a different section of the crowd. Directly in the center of the screen, Graviton sits eagerly chowing down on an obscenely large bucket of popcorn and seemingly talking happily with Fleetwood, his assistant. Meanwhile, Fleetwood seems to be doing her best to act like she doesn't know the fourty something year old man sitting next to her with the popcorn bucket the size of a small child. Once more the screen flickers and cuts to a section of the crowd sitting near the front row.

A girl with shoulder length, light pink hair and blue eyes sits with a small "Go Zabar" sign that seemed like it had been made minutes before. She sits alone, not having anyone she knows next to her to talk with and seemingly restlessly moving her leg up and down in anticipation for the match. A few rows above the girl, another similarly lonely girl with long blue hair and orange eyes sits in wait of the match. She doesn't seem anxious like the pink haired girl, however, she sits still and patient, keeping her eyes locked on the arena in intense interest.

Far above, back in the announcer's booth, Derek whispers something into Vulco's ear and the man nods.

Showtime.

The crackle of the loudspeaker could be heard throughout the arena as it switched on. "LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLADIES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND GENTLEMEEEEEEEEEEN!" The crowd erupted into a roar of excitement as Vulco's voiced filled the coliseum. "WELCOME TO THE FINAL MATCH OF THE FIRST YEAR BRACKET!" The crowd erupted into another ceremonious cheer, whoops and hollers came from all corners of Remnant as people sat down on their couches, snacks in hand. "I AM YOUR HOST, VULCOOOOOOOOOO AND THIS IS GONNA BE F ҉   ҉ KING AWESOME!! LET'S HOLD THE CEREMONY UNTIL AFTER THESE TWO FINAL COMBATANTS ARE OUT ON FIELD THOUGH, SHALL WE!?" The crowd cheered heartily once more. "OUR FIRST COMBATANT HAS AN INFAMOUS REPUATATION FOR INJURING ANY WHO GET IN HIS WAY TO THE TOP, I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU HIS NAME, IT'S NATHAN EAUUUUUUUU!! SAY WHAT YOU WILL ABOUT HIS TACTICS, HE'S GONNA BE A DEADLY HUNTER IN HIS TIME,
AND A RUTHLESS OPPONENT FOR OUR SECOND COMBATANT, ZABAR AGAAAAA!! THE ONE, THE ONLY, THE VACUAN THAT COMES WITH A SMACKIN'!!
" The crowd erupted into applause as the two students entered onto the arena floor and began to make their way toward the center. "NEITHER OF THESE YOUNG MEN HAVE BEEN BESTED YET, BUT ONE WILL FALL TODAY, AFTER ALL ONLY ONE CAN LEAVE THE WINNER!" The two combatants reach the very center of the arena and grasp each others hands in a firm handshake and as their hands meet, the floor beneath them rises up into the air.

A chuckle is heard through the speakers of the arena as Vulco leans in toward the microphone in his booth. "NOW THIS'LL BE NEW TO THOSE YOUNG AND OLD. IN ADDITION TO THE NEW ENVIRONMENTS PRESENTED THIS YEAR, WE HAVE A BRAND NEW FINAL MATCH SYSTEM, RIGHT NOW IT'S JUST A FLAT CIRCLE, BUT YOU ALL JUST WAIT FOR THE SURPRIIISE! BUT FOR NOW, SINCE THERE'S NO ENVIRONMENTAL SPINNER, THE MATCH MAY START ONCE THE TWO COMBATANTS MAKE THEIR WAY TO OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE CIRCLE!!!"

The two students make their way to their respective ends of the arena and turn on their heels to face each other once more, each readying themselves for attack.

The floor itself has an intricate pattern on it, spiraling inward toward a large engraving of the Vytal symbol in the center. The floor is roughly the size of Yang and Mercury's match arena in its current state. Getting knocked off may result in a lose, but only if the contestant reaches the bottom 100 ft (30.48m) below.

(A coin flip has decided that Nathan can make the first move.)

Amity Colosseum / Switcheroo: Malina/Phi
« on: July 02, 2017, 01:45:28 AM »
Malina smiled and nodded, wishing Juno luck as he walked away after having handed her his belt. She made a note of it's surprising weight as she walked away from the arena floor and toward the hallway leading to the stairs to the stands surrounding the floor. A hardlight generator being used as a weapon was certainly creative, she thought as she closed the door behind her and moving onto the stairs, though that certainly wasn't what had interested her when she was looking over the student files the day prior.

The woman stopped on the first landing of the steps and held the belt up in the air, backlighting with one of the ceiling lights, and began to look over the edges of the belt. She scrunched her mouth up, finding little in the way of a display or labeled buttons, and lowered the belt down and let it rest in her arms.

Malina looked around for a moment, looking down the hallways for any wayward janitor or sightseer before returning her gaze to the belt and speaking.

"Hello?"
