Human Male

A horizontal katana pointed left, coated in viridian flames.

First Year Beacon Student
Ex Dueling Champion

Appearance:
Height: 5'10
Weight: 170lbs
Viridian has dark blue eyes and shaggy black hair that falls over his eyes. He has a pale complexion, and several small scars on his arms from his training. His face is angular and thin, and his nose is bent slightly out of shape. Viridian's body is the perfect example of his training, being lean and muscular, showing a preference for speed and mobility over brute force. His regular and combat outfit is the same. He wears a simple black shirt and dress pants, with dark boots. Over this, Viridian wears a dark blue 3/4 length overcoat that he wears open. Viridian also needs to wear glasses. Viridian hasn't bothered to make any alterations to his uniform.

History:
Viridian was born to a champion duellist for a mother and a huntsman for a father in Vale. From an early age, Viridian was trained to fight. His mother, Amethyst, taught him the art of iaijutsu from the moment he could hold a sword, at about the age of 5, and instilled in him a sense of ruthlessness, in keeping with her belief that enemies should be ruined, not beaten. Viridian's father, Caspian, on the other hand, taught him kenjutsu and Muay Thai, as well as strategic thinking and the art of planning.

Viridian's childhood consisted of an untold number of swordfighting competitions. It was at these events that he met his best friend, Vienna Solace. She was the only duellist that could compete with Viridian, and as such they struck up an instant friendship, which progressed to such a level that the two were expected to get married. Viridian in fact has been in love with her for years, and does plan to propose at the best opportunity. However, at their final competition at the age of 16, before they both agreed to spend a year out of the competition scene and focus solely on their studies at Signal where they were both training to become Huntsmen, disaster struck. A new competitor, Mikhail Marigold, cheated in a match against Vienna, using a blade hidden in the hilt of his sword to stab her, leaving her crippled, unable to use her left arm due to damage to the muscles. In a fit of rage, Viridian attacked Mikhail, and nearly killed him, but was stopped by his mother. He was banned from competitions, with the sentencing being reduced as a result of the circumstances, specifically who was injured, as well as the sway his mother held on the committee. It was at this point that Viridian's father awoke Vienna's aura, as she didn't have a huntsman or huntress to do it for her, and his family presumed that it already was, to protect her from further pain and injury, though the damage to Vienna's arm was too far gone for her aura to heal it without needing the injury to be inflicted again, like a bone being broken and reset after healing wrong.

This event instilled in Viridian his near apathy for anything other than fighting and his friends. Vienna was lost at the thought of never being able to duel again, and the realisation that he couldn't give his best friend the one thing she desired made Viridian question life, and what it's purpose was. He still remains in contact with Vienna, and plans to propose to her upon completing his time at Beacon, and use his salary as a huntsman to find a way to restore the use of her arm, hoping that science will progress far enough that she won't have to resort to a prosthetic in order to duel again.

Personality:
Viridian was trained by his parents to be the best duellist he could be. This has affected his personality, as he is so used to being alone and training that he is a quiet, awkward, reserved man. He has been described by his teachers at Signal as an individual so focused on his training that he appears to be bored with everything else. If it does not interest him, Viridian will not put much effort in, and often has to be ordered to work by an authority figure or someone he respects. At first glance, he appears to be almost asleep. However, despite his disinterest in standard education, Viridian is rather smart, specialising in deduction and analytic thinking, though his apathy means he tends to not bother using his intelligence. Viridian believes that there are no heroes in life, and that surviving is based on your own power. But, should someone earn Viridian's respect, he will go out of his way for them, and take them into account in all his decisions.

However, during a fight, Viridian's personality takes a 180. He becomes energetic, vibrant, and has ever been described as crazed. He shows an extreme level of bloodthirstiness and self destructiveness, fighting without hesitation and begging his opponents to attack with their full strength, just to feel the thrill of the moment. However, he still displays his carefree attitude at times, usually against weaker opponents, such as texting a friends with his spare hand, or some other act of disinterest.

Viridian also loses his apathy while in the presence of those he loves, and is instead a more open and kind individual. While presently, this only includes his parents and Vienna, he knows that his time at Beacon means joining a team, and that they will likely join this list.

Aura and Semblance:
Viridian's aura is, surprisingly, Viridian , and rises around him like a mist.

Viridian's semblance is called Flow, and it allows him to imbue an object, usually his sword, with his aura. This enhances it's traits considerably, making it sharper, tougher, and provides an increased resistance to aura based abilities. Viridian can also channel his aura through the blade and release it as a ranged attack with a distance of 20 meters, usually in the form of a slash. The initial use costs 15% of Viridian's aura to fully imbue the blade, and costs him an additional 10% every 1:30 minutes. The ranged slashes cost 5% of the imbued aura, so he has 3 uses of it. Viridian can deactivate his aura at any time, though it will cost another 15% of his aura to reactivate it. Viridian must also be touching the object to activate his semblance, though the effect will persist for 10 seconds should he let go of it for any reason, such as being disarmed or throwing it.

While Viridian tends to use his semblance solely in conjunction with Pleiades, he can use it with other weapons, which tend to have differing effects. Blunt weapons won't become sharp, but will have their durability and density increased, allowing for more damage to be dealt. This density increase would be like the difference between a wooden and metal bat, so to speak. Flow cannot be used with a ranged weapon.

Combat Behavior:
Viridian is a swordsman by nature. Quick and ruthless, he was trained by his mother, a champion swordfighter, and his father, a huntsman, to be the deadliest fighter possible. Viridian's sword style is a combination of iaijutsu and kenjutsu, as well as their competitive forms, iaido and kendo. He uses feints and his scabbard to draw open an opponents guard, before slipping his blade through their bodies. He also knows Muay Thai, and tends to combine elbows, knees and kicks into his movements, to catch his opponent of guard, not that he'd ever use this in an official duelling competition. He prefers speed over strength, and evades, parries and deflects over straight up blocking, as his style requires speed over power. However, Viridian has several weaknesses that offset his strengths. Without his semblance, he has no ranged options, being a strictly close range combatant. He also is very reliant on his sword, and tends to lose more often if he gets disarmed. Viridian has also spent his entire life training alone, and has little in the way of teamwork skills in combat. Viridian also suffers disadvantages when engaging against groups. While he specialises in one v one engagement, he can fight two v one with limited drawbacks due to his speed and skill, but more than that will result in him being overwhelmed.

WEAPON

Name:
Pleiades

Primary Form:
A katana with a gold guard and viridian hilt, which has been modified to be long enough to wield one or two handed. The blade is 25 inches long and made of steel

History:
A gift from Vienna upon his acceptance to Beacon. Pleiades represents the strength of their friendship, and is a symbol of her willingness to stand with Viridian, and that together, they can defeat anything. Both of their personalities are represented in the design, with Viridian being the simple blade, devoid of ornamentation, while Vienna is the flashier, more appealing guard. It also is a symbol of their preferred combat style, putting their faith in their skills and training over advanced technology and dust.
