CHARACTER

Name: Setsuna Antiqua

Age: 18

Species and Gender: Human Male

Occupation: First Year Beacon Academy Student

Appearance: Setsuna is 176 cm, or 5'8" with a somewhat built frame. He has amber eyes with a black iris, a small, sharp nose and relatively thin lips, normally seen in a pleasant smile. He is slightly tanned and has short, curled black hair which reaches halfway down his neck, with locks of his hair here and there. Along the left side of his body are faded scars from a fight with an Alpha Beowolf, the marks of which never truly disappeared. His shoulders are flat but slightly hunched over from the weight of his weapons.

When out on missions / times when school uniform isn't required, Setsuna adorns three layers of thin clothing: a simple, darker shade of blue shirt on the bottom, a white-and-light-blue sleeveless shirt, split into 4 sections via black lines with the white ending just below the armpits and the light blue upward from there. In the middle of the cross, there is a forest-green diamond section. For the outer layer, a dark blue half-coat, ending at the middle of his chest, with long sleeves and neck collar. The latter is always kept unbuttoned.

On missions/ in combat, Setsuna goes nowhere without an self-made metal backpack, which holds two metal adjustable arms for his weapons of choice, one on each side. In addition, the backpack holds a small amount of essentials: Dust ammo, scroll, and whatever else he fancies. He wears a blue bracer with silver line markings on the back of his right arm.

History: As a child, blissfully new to both the wonders and horrors of the world of Remnant, young Setsuna Antiqua spent his childhood in the peaceful island of Patch, as the son of the retired hunters Emile and Marina Antiqua, along with his younger sister, Jocelyn, as ordinary a life as could be in the war-ravaged lands of Vale and beyond. Both Emile and Marina had met on a battlefield, one a front-line paladin and one a back-line medic, and both knew first-hand the effects of war, Emile more so. But yet, they were Hunters. They upheld the most sacred of all duties: keeping the commons safe from the beasts known as Grimm.

Setsuna and Jocelyn, although brother and sister, took after their father and mother respectively; while Jocelyn was quiet and selfless even at a young age, Setsuna was, as the saying went, “like father, like son”: caring, outgoing, cheerful and all-around energetic for his age. Though the differences were wide and far, it didn’t stop them from being one happy family. Of course, in a world as cruel as Remnant, this could not last long.

And it didn’t.

It all happened so quickly. An argument near the woods where they always played. Fights broke out. Jocelyn stumbling and falling, her ankle twisted and her face in a rictus of pain. Angry exchanges between Setsuna and the quarreller. Emotions rising in a turmoil. Then the inevitable. The Beowolf bursting from the dense cover of the woodbine. Anger converted to utter fear in seconds. The instinct to run. But Jocelyn couldn’t. The last thing she saw before fainting in fear was Setsuna, standing before her fallen body, arms outstretched, in the line of the Beowolf’s charge.

“For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all. Infinite in distance and unbound by death, I release your soul, and by my shoulder, protect thee.”

These were the words that indicated Setsuna's first steps, the words that made Setsuna rise from his unconsciousness, feeling the shallow gashes on his arm and chest quickly fade from existence, replaced with the warm glow of his Aura and the concerned face of his father. He later learned that he was very fortunate to have survived; even with his father beheading the Beowolf in one brutal swing and his mother's medical prowess, the wound had the potential to be fatal. However, the sole thought in front of his mind was: was Jocelyn alright?

His answer came several seconds later in the form of a flying hug from a crying Jocelyn and Marina; the former because she had been feeling really guilty about everything, the latter because she was simply overjoyed that her son was safe. For a moment, the family was back together again, as if nothing had happened. Everything had turned out for the better...except for the radiant green glow emitting from Setsuna's body. His Aura had been unlocked by his father in order to heal him, but now Setsuna needed more, craved even. His Aura was unlocked, he argued. "Why shouldn't I take the path you yourself have chosen, Father?" Part of this was already long coming; Emile had read to Setsuna of stories long past, of valiant deeds both sung and unsung, heroic tales of honourable combat, sacrifice, chivalry, and of the knights that performed such acts of courage. The very reason why Emile stepped onto the battlefield in the first place. "To protect the weak and defenceless, to fight for the welfare of all."

That very night, under the dark cover of the star-filled sky, with his father, clad in full armor by his side, Setsuna knelt on the warm grass, and, together with his father, pledged to carry out the duties that were bestowed upon them as Hunters, no matter the difficulties that arise. In time, when he was of age, with what combat knowledge his father could impart in that short while, Setsuna entered Signal Academy. Within, as Signal decreed, every Hunter-in-training must needs forge/create his/her own weapon, and Setsuna was no different, choosing the simple yet effective combination of a sword and shield. Already, with his choice, he could carry out his ideals to protect and defend. These were the weapons that served him through his time at Signal, with many an hour dedicated to mastering the techniques his father taught him.

In lessons, his performance, though not outstanding, was always above average; he was willing to listen to any troubles his fellow students might have had, to lend a hand where it might be needed, and yet still managed to keep up with his own studies, portraying himself as a studious worker. Where he truly shined, though, was combat: though his style was not unique by any means, his balanced style made him both easily compatible yet a a fighter who could easily hold his own, making him a valuable member of any team, if not a powerful one. Add that to his friendly personality, and he shined among his class. This didn't go unnoticed by the teachers; in his final year of Signal, the class got put into temporary teams of 4 for a final mission before graduation, a task of teamwork/live combat test. Setsuna's team was given a simple task to locate and eliminate a pack of Beowolves, the source of trouble for a nearby, nondescript village. No trouble for the four of them--except when an uninvited Alpha Beowolf showed up and started kicking their butt. Eventually, with all four members injured, their aura down to the red, Setsuna took the brunt of a assault and held it long enough for the remainder of his team to leap on and kill it. However, that last attack brought his aura down to zero, causing him to faint from his injuries. Again. From a Beowolf. Ironic.

The first thing he saw when he woke was...well...a ceiling. Followed by a torrent of noise coming from his teammates and his parents. Turns out the mission was a success, despite the injuries suffered. What mattered was that they didn't retreat after completing the initial objective, but rather fought on bravely, protecting the village from an unseen threat. What didn't survive was Setsuna's shield; it looked more like a battered frying pan without a handle at this point. Luckily, the instructors overseeing the task deemed the sacrifice a necessary one, and allowed him to forge a new set of weaponry before graduating. Enter Discord and Harmony, his new sword/shield combo.

With his new set of weaponry in hand, his path was straight and clear. The end was in sight. Beacon Academy awaited, and with it, a new team, a new goal, a new future.

"For peace and our oath."

Personality: Best described as a polite and outgoing person, Setsuna will try his best to put people at ease whenever he speaks to them. With a caring, cheerful personality, it's hard not to like him, especially when he doesn't mind listening to any problems anyone might have and offering advice. He's not afraid to speak up, no matter friend or stranger, showing confidence in socialising. This warm, unreserved attitude to life makes him easy to get along with.

Away from his social life, having forged both his previous and current set of weaponry, Setsuna has developed an interest in mechanics and technology, as well as reading the odd book. The occasional spar here and there is welcome to him since it's a chance for him to jog the mental and physical muscles into action. Keeping up with his studies, while not his preferred task, is something he forces himself to do now and then.

As a person who follows the creeds of knights long past, Setsuna is honourable, respectful, and will not hesitate to put himself in the line of fire for anyone in need, even if it results in injuries (he's done that twice before). While a good leader, he also obeys those in a position of authority with seldom a question, unless he sees a better, alternate decision. Not a glory-seeker, he doesn't take massive risks, sticking to the game plan if there is one, and keeping himself in line if there isn't.

An incredibly protective child at heart, specially toward friends and family, but extending to any person he meets, his shield is always ready to defend the weak and defenceless, while his sword, raised to the heavens, repels the creatures of Grimm. Some might call it cheesy, but damned if he isn't aspiring to be the definition of a modern-day knight. And woe to anyone on the receiving end of his justice.

Aura: Aura Color: Lime Green/#00FF00

Setsuna's Aura, while capable of deflecting slight attacks, has not fully unlocked its entire capabilities, and has potential to improve. He can focus his aura to reduce oncoming damage very slightly, but doing so requires concentration and is easily dropped.

Semblance: Quantum Burst--Grants highly increased movement speed and slightly enhanced reaction speed (comparable to a Speed glyph), with a side effect of leaving afterimages (pure visual effect) and turning Setsuna's body and aura pinkish-red. The color change also applies to whatever he is holding, meaning Setsuna essentially is a pink-red blur when using his semblance.

Quantum Burst is basically a released limiter on a rechargeable battery. When not in use, Setsuna runs on 70% of the battery's power. Quantum Burst essentially releases the battery's limiter, allowing him to run full burst--100% of the power and using it up faster than it can recharge. This results in the increased movement, reaction, and color change, and also allows Setsuna to pull off previously unachievable feats with his newly acquired speed, such as wallrunning with the increased momentum or a much faster flurry of strikes.

However, the power eventually depletes, with the maximum operating time at 1 minute, before it is completely drained. When that happens, Setsuna must 'recharge' back to his original state. As a result, he will move, react and hit slower, as well as feel physically tired for half a minute. Any damage he deals during recharge is also lessened slightly due to fatigue.

The time between each use is also half a minute. Repeated uses of his Semblance puts proportional strain on Setsuna, beginning with headaches and ramping up to possible blackouts at 3 repeated uses or above. Setsuna's sense of time remains the same with everyone else while active, and Quantum Burst can forcibly end if he takes a heavy blow (15% aura damage or above) while his Semblance is running.

Combat Behavior: Setsuna's battle style can be separated into two distinct sections: Out of Semblance and In Semblance.

Out of Semblance: A balanced and safe fighting style is most commonly seen when Setsuna's not in Quantum Burst mode. Not one to pull any tricks, set up traps and cunning schemes beforehand, Setsuna fights in a fair manner, never resorting to backchat in combat to throw his opponents off. Not needing to rely on his terrain to fight efficiently, he is proficient in a form of combat suited for a gladiator, being able to switch from a defensive style to an offensive approach at will thanks to his sword and shield.

Each weapon holds an equal importance in Setsuna's fighting style, not over-relying on any one sword or shield to get the work done. While this means he uses each blade with equal proficiency, it also means he struggles with any other weapon that's not what he's used to. However, it's uncommon for him to ever be without any of his trusted weapons, as his total of 11 blades and 2 shields ensure that a disarming style will never work against him. In addition, the wide number of combinations that he can use mean that his fighting can be somewhat unpredictable.

Even his offensive and defensive styles can be further disassembled into sub-categories. Ranging from a quicker, dual-wielding sword bit style which includes rapid cuts and deflecting parries, the most balanced style of longsword and shield for most situations, to using the combined buster sword for heavy-duty situations in exchange for mobility and attacking speed, Setsuna can adapt for most situations under close combat. Meanwhile, his twin shields allow for an iron wall of defence if he so chooses, although it removes all of his options for offence if done so. While Discord does have a ranged option, that form is mostly neglected and reserved for mid-ranged opponents.

As a balanced fighter, Setsuna's weaknesses are few, yet still prominent enough to take advantage of. The natural enemy of any melee fighter is obviously their ranged counterparts. Even with both shields Setsuna lacks any method of removing said threats without relying on his Semblance; once depleted he leaves himself wide open for renewed aggression. While he shines in close-range combat, he can also be overwhelmed by multiple foes engaging him at once. The natural weight of his combined weapons leaves him with a strain over time, so playing a more stamina-based style forces him to go on the offensive and leave gaps in his defence.

In Semblance: Using his newly gained speed and side effects to his full advantage, Setsuna forgoes his defence for a full-on offensive rush, relying on his speed to outpace, outrun and dodge any attack sent his way, melee and ranged alike, while his attacking prowess is further enhanced by his improved attack and movement speed. During his Semblance, Setsuna would be more adequately treated as a skirmisher rather than a brawler when dealing with him.

Interestingly, Setsuna becomes more predictable in a sense when in Quantum Burst mode. One of two common styles he uses during his Semblance is a storm of swift, chipping slices, using one blade in each hand to rush in, score a quick swing, then disengage and come in again from a different angle. This is designed to overwhelm any defensive play from the enemy by attacking from multiple angles at rapid speeds, with the additional benefits of his afterimages being closely packed together to confuse the enemy. Alternatively, a hyper-offence core can be achieved by dual-wielding both Equilibrium and Discord in buster sword form, though the sheer weight of both swords limit both usage and speed while doing so.

Setsuna's biggest weakness would be the duration of time in which he needs to recharge after each Semblance use; initiating Quantum Burst is either a sign that he wants to end the fight or a last-resort to get him out of a tight spot. Surviving his onslaught puts his opponents in a much more favourable position as he is now in his weakest state and can be taken advantage of.

WEAPONS

Name: Discord

Primary Form: Discord consists of a normal longsword handle and an enlarged hilt on a swivelling stand, painted in dark blue. The neon-green blade is embedded in a grey "holster" of sorts, with the whole blade measuring around 47 inches, or 4 feet. Attached to the hilt are two blue edge-guards, one longer than the other and both strangely angled downwards to protect the user's hand. When not in use, Discord is sheathed at Setsuna's waist.

Secondary Form: When Discord activates Range mode, the blade and the base turns sideways, the handle angles downward slightly and the two blade guards spread out, one to act as a aiming sight and the other to act as a hand-guard. Two slots open in the base of the hilt to expose barrels and can fire 9mm rounds, not very powerful but enough to deter weaker Grimm. From a full cartridge, Discord can fire 10 shots from both barrels before requiring a reload. This mode is rarely used.

Spoiler: ShowHide

Name: Harmony

Primary Form: Harmony, Setsuna's reforged shield, is shaped like a deformed hexagon, the length of which is from Setsuna's shoulder to 3/4th of his arm, layers of prussian blue and white armour, with slots around the side. When not in use, Harmony is kept at Setsuna's left side, mounted upon his backpack's mechanical arm, capable of rotating Harmony to a more defensive position in front of his shoulder, or a less cumbersome position behind his shoulder. Harmony can also be detached from the arm and mounted upon Setsuna's left arm, to act as a more traditional shield.

The main usage of Harmony, apart from the obvious "defence", is the 3 pairs of 2 green Sword Bits, mounted around Harmony's perimeter. These Sword Bits can detach from Harmony, expanding from the slots, or can simply fan out to create a larger surface area, and can combine with Discord to create a buster sword, doubling it's length and reach. In this form, Discord's handle extends to compensate for the additional weight and length. The Sword Bits can also act as extra swords for Setsuna to use, but are merely a backup option. Each set of bits can combine to achieve the length of a regular sword or be merged in one of multiple combinations for varying lengths, limited to 3 bits at one time. In addition, each bit is magnetic, providing easy assembling of the buster sword or secure connection to the shield.

Spoiler: ShowHide

History: The original weapons that carried Setsuna through Signal were broken and destroyed during a fateful fight. Discord and Harmony were their successors, and ones that Setsuna forged himself. Two of Setsuna's important possessions.

Name: Equilibrium (a.k.a Full Saber Kit)

Primary Form: Equilibrium is a upgrade to Setsuna's arsenal, slightly longer than Harmony, taking the form of both a greatsword and shield. It is shaped similarly to a isosceles triangle with a handle on the bottom, and is mounted at his right shoulder, opposite Harmony, on an new mechanical extension of the original exo-skeleton arm. When mounted, it can swing to the front and back at a 180° angle, similar to Harmony when mounted on the arm, as well as being able to tilt slightly up and down.

The weapon is mostly blue, with white metallic components and neon green blades, identical to the colour scheme of Harmony and Discord. Attached to the sides and surface of the sword/shield are 3 new sword bits that double as daggers, with the white handles on the side and bottom of the blade acting as secondary grips for easier wielding. Due to its weight, Setsuna cannot wield or holster this weapon for long, opting to leave it upright in the ground, or alternatively calling it in via rocket locker.

Equilibrium fills the role of both a greatsword and a shield, but its weight makes it cumbersome for a sword. However, the length of the blade dwarfs Discord's, and is a better option against larger enemies as it packs a much bigger punch. However Setsuna simply cannot move around as much due to the blade's massive length and weight, having to hold the sword in both hands and hitting slower in exchange for more force.

Similarly, Equilibrium also serves as a shield better than Harmony, due to the larger size and durability, but is also harder to move around with. When using Equilibrium as a shield, Setsuna likes to simply stab the blade-end into the ground and take cover behind it, or if in combat, keep it on his exo-skeleton arm and rotate it forward. The weapon is made of the same material as the previous weapons.

Secondary Form: Equilibrium splits in half to form a sword and shield, roughly halfway down the side. The bladed section of Equilibrium ejects from the top, more shielded section from the two sword bits down, and a handle extends from the new section. Similarly, the shield section is held like a normal shield, utilising the bottom sword bit as a shield handle. In this form, Equilibrium is easier to wield and move around with but loses the power and length of the full blade.

Spoiler: ShowHide

History: Forged in Beacon when Discord and Harmony began to feel lacking compared to his peers, Equilibrium solidifies Setsuna's position as an all-round fighter. This particular weapon, made by his own hands, represents the balance between sword and shield, balancing both aspects of Discord and Harmony into one entity, hence the name of "Equilibrium". Alternatively referred to by Setsuna as his "Full Saber Kit", it first saw use during a detoured mission. However, it is not always carried into battle.

First, I would like to welcome you to the RP Board. Second, I would like to offer my deepest apologies for your character not being reviewed for over a week. There's nothing I can say to justify the wait time so I'm just going to jump right in and get this review started so you can RP sooner:

History:
Only one thing that caught my attention here: How is he able to have the funds to buy all the high-tech gear he uses? Just a little something in the beginning indicating how he can afford it (whether he works or his family is rich) would work for me.

Also, it's spelled Discord, not Dischord. Not sure if you misspelled it on purpose or not, but I wanted to point that out :)

Semblance:
Nice concept. The only thing with this is that it is fairly OP. My suggestion would be to tone down the duration time as well as add a cool down period so he can't spam use it consecutively.
Aside from that, I would like to know how many times he can use it before he does grow tired or when it starts to take a strain on him?

Weapon:
I just want to confirm one thing: from what the descriptions make it out to be, both weapons sound like they are an energy sword/gun and shield. Is that correct? If that is so, then I'm actually gonna have to say no to both. It's nothing against you, but all of us on the staff made an agreement that energy and high-tech weapons are based on a trust system in that, if we trust you then you can have it. This is due to many other people overly abusing the system. It's not that I don't trust how you'll use it, but simply to be fair in that this is your first character. We would like to build trust so that, if you prove trustworthy, then we'll allow you to have these types of weaponry. Again, this is only if it's an energy or high-tech type weapon so please correct me if it's not.

I'm sorry if I sound like the bearer of bad news, but we've had a lot of people who have abused high-tech weapons to the point that it's made it difficult for those who don't abuse it now.

Aside from everything I've listed, everything else looks good. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for reviewing my character. To be honest, I expected that more than half my character would be considered OP, so I'm fine with any criticism. However, I have a few questions with both the history and the weapon section criticism:

1. The reason I wrote that my character designed my own weapon was that I thought Signal would give their students any resources to make whatever weapon they wanted. I mean, Ruby comes from a decently well-off family, and she designs a High-Caliber Sniper Scythe. I don't really see how Ruby could afford Crescent Rose, so I assumed that Signal gave them the credits. This is just a question, I can change it if you want, but just curious to this point.

2. I'm sorry if my description made my weapons seem like god-slayers, but it's much more simple than that. Dischord (Yes, I knew it was spelt Discord, I just think it sounds better) isn't a lightsaber, the blade simply retracts into the hilt. It's only made out of tempered steel, so it isn't a ridiculous buster blade. Harmony's Sword Bits I can understand being OP, so I can make them extra swords that attach to Harmony, and not have them be drones. However, can I still keep Dischord's Buster form?

Otherwise, thank you for the review :D Have already changed the things mentioned above.

So, I've discussed this with another mod and have decided to let the weapon slide. Though it is a bit high-tech, it's not as bad as others I've seen (believe me...I've seen some REALLY out there weapons) so I won't make a fuss here.

Overall, everything should be fine so I'll pass this on to the next reviewer. Approved 1 of 2.

The fact that he leaves after images bothers me a bit since that means he's essentially travelling too fast for the naked eye to see for almost a minute to boot. A minute in a fight is practically all it takes to get enough good hits in if their reaction time is shitty then again we have all these uberdodgers who seem to be able to dodge anything. I'm a bit iffy on this amount of power for a mere first year but I'll let it go for now. Should any problems arise there may need to be some editing required should this be abused.

CHARACTER

Name: Setsuna Antiqua

Age: 18

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol:  Two O's stuck together forming a infinity sign with a neon green background

Occupation: First year Beacon Academy student

Appearance: Setsuna is 175 cm, or 5'7" with a slender frame. He has very dark grey eyes, often mistaken for ink-black, a small, sharp nose and relatively thin lips which are almost always in a neutral state. He is slightly tanned and has short, spiky black hair which reaches halfway down his neck. There is a short lock of hair down Setsuna's right side which is dyed juniper green. Apart from the school uniform, Setsuna prefers to wear a white T-shirt with a circle for his backpack symbol, a black leather tool belt for emergency repairs to his weapons, and dark grey, faded and slightly battered trousers with a bandolier where normal pockets would be, holding up to 5 Dust canisters on each bandolier for his weapon. He also has a grey camouflage jumper which he sometimes wears.  Attached to his back is a custom backpack that consists of a mechanical arm which stretches as far as his left shoulder, used for holstering a part of his weapon. The backpack also goes around his neck, ending in a medallion-shape circle at his chest, where his symbol is shown.

History: Setsuna, unlike others, has had a relatively comfortable and peaceful life living in Patch. Early on, Setsuna had already shown his mother's traits of being a likeable person, friendly and polite, and his father's traits of being a Huntsman, as well as an uncanny habit of naming anything he liked/owned. As a young child, Setsuna was engrossed with tales of chivalry and bravery that knights of yore exhibited, and Setsuna endeavoured to do the same, protecting the innocent and deliver justice with the sharp end of a sword. To that end, Setsuna enlisted with Signal Academy.

As Signal Academy required it's students to do, Setsuna forged his own weapons along with the rest of his class, designing a stock sword and shield, in line with the "knight" theme that he strived for. The sword and shield he named Dischord and Harmony respectively, as his sword would "sow dischord among his enemies" and his shield would "bring harmony to the land of the honored". Setsuna would later customise his weapons and take reference from a manga he read, to create his upgraded (and current) Dischord and Harmony.

Within his time at Signal, Setsuna also designed his own clothing and gear, eventually coming up with his mechanical backpack for better mastery of his own weapons, becoming a self-reliant student. The way he pursued his dreams of being a "knight" meant that selflessness and honorable conduct made Setsuna a very likable student, protecting his friends from harm, and even going so far as to duel Grimm and treat the remains with respect as they vaporised into the ground.

Due to Setsuna's cheerful personality and respect for everyone he met, it wasn't long before everything was cleared for Setsuna to take the next step into Beacon Academy. No matter what happened in the bastion that was one of the greatest Academies in Remnant, Setsuna would always stick by his beliefs, no matter the situation, human or Grimm.

"Victory for the honored!"

Personality: Setsuna is a open-hearted, friendly and polite person, making most everyone take a liking to him, given time. He has shown a caring personality to those he trusts, as well as observing proper courtesies with nary a complaint. He is not incredibly social, and will not actively engage people in talk unless there is a certain reason, often preferring to listen. Although not incredibly academic, Setsuna has shown a interest in reading, especially in mechanics, to further improve Dischord and Harmony. When under stress, which is not often, he shrugs it aside and doesn't let it bother him. However, one thing that Setsuna is extremely touchy about is his weapons and gear. If anyone makes even the slightest negative comment about his choice of gear, Setsuna gets incredibly aggressive, even to the point where he will swear at the offending person, even if there is a teacher nearby. Setsuna does not feel any different toward Faunus, and treats them like he treats every other person: cheerful and uplifting.

Aura and Semblance: Setsuna's Aura glows neon green, and while not particularly powerful or much help in terms of boosted strength, he has a relatively large Aura pool to draw from to use his Semblance. His Semblance grants Setsuna the benefits of increased movement and reaction speed, making Setsuna's entire body and weapons glow a pink-reddish hue instead of the normal neon green, as well as leaving afterimages wherever Setsuna moves. This allows Setsuna to react and move around fast enough to rival Speed glyphs, able to cut incoming projectiles in half or even quarters to avoid harm. However, this does not slow or increase time for either Setsuna or his opponent. If Setsuna takes a heavy blow during the duration of his Semblance, it will forcibly end and leave Setsuna incapable of reactivating his semblance for a short duration. An aftereffect of the Semblance is that when it ends, no matter the duration it was active for, Setsuna will be visibly tired, and thus hit less hard, move slower and react slower than usual for around 30 seconds. He can keep this semblance up for about a minute or so, even under strain or pressure. Setsuna can use his Semblance for up to 3 times in a row, with a minute of "cooldown", but if he goes over 3 times, the reaction and speed is significantly slower. Setsuna has dubbed his Semblance the "Quantum System".

Combat Behavior: Setsuna's combat behavior is similar to the way he treats others: fair and square. He follows rules of chivalry like the knights of old, albeit with several technical alterations. Setsuna does not rely on Dust effects, only using Dust to power Dischord and Harmony. He prefers a balanced approach to most enemies, showing little weakness and not making many risky decisions. Due to Dischord's long range for a sword, Setsuna can safely and easily engage spear-using foes, but due to the lack of ranged options at Setsuna's disposal (Dischord's pistol form and Harmony's Sword Bits), Setsuna is vulnerable to long-range weapons, especially heavy-hitting rockets and grenades, as Harmony was designed for swordfights and not explosions. However, this deficit can be somewhat negated by Setsuna's "Quantum System" semblance, allowing Setsuna to close the distance between his foes incredibly quickly.

WEAPONS

Name: Dischord and Harmony

Primary Form: Dischord is Setsuna's main weapon, designed after a certain weapon he saw in a manga once. It takes the form of a longsword handle, with blue edgeguards on the top and bottom of the hilt stretching as far as halfway up the arm between the elbow. Further up the "blade" is a mechanism not unlike a lightsaber with the extension of the blade, with a round base attached to the hilt and two sections protruding outward from the base, in line with the hilt. When in sword form, a neon-green blade made of tempered steel extends out from between the two protruding sections and the base. The length of Dischord is around the same as a normal longsword. There is a slot in the handle for Dust cartridges to be inserted into. When not in use, the blade retracts and Dischord is stored at Setsuna's left waist.

http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/gundam/images/6/60/C01a.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/185?cb=20100818131148

Secondary Form: When Dischord is in it's pistol form, the blade and the base turns sideways, the handle bends downward slightly and the two edgeguards spread out, one to act as a aiming sight and the other to act as a handguard. Two slots open in the base of the blade and can fire charges of Dust rounds, not very powerful but enough to deter weaker Grimm. From a full Dust cartridge, Dischord can discharge up to 16 shots before requiring a reload, and does not have an alternate fire mode. If Dischord runs out of Dust, the shots simply do not fire.

Secondary Weapon: Harmony is Setsuna's shield. It is shaped like a elongated hexagon, the length of which is from Setsuna's hand up to his elbow, with layers of prussian blue and white armor, with slots around the side. When not in use, Harmony is kept at Setsuna's left side, mounted upon his backpack's mechanical arm, capable of rotating Harmony to a more defensive position in front of Setsuna's elbow, or a less cumbersome position behind Setsuna's shoulder. Harmony can also be detached from the arm and mounted upon Setsuna's left arm, to act as a more traditional shield. The main usage of Harmony is its six green Sword Bits, mounted around Harmony. The Sword Bits can detach from Harmony, expanding from the slots around Harmony, or can simply fan out to create a larger surface area, and can combine with Dischord to create a buster sword. In this form, Dischord's handle extends to make a dual-handed greatsword. The Sword Bits can also act as extra swords for Setsuna to use, but are merely a backup option.

Dust Functions: Dischord is powered by Dust, and Setsuna keeps Dust cartridges on his bandoliers to resupply it. However, Dischord only accepts green (wind) Dust, and they seem to serve no use apart from powering Setsuna's weapon and colouring them neon green.

History: Dischord and Harmony were built during Setsuna's time at Signal, taking ideas from a manga he read. Setsuna further improved upon them and designed the mechanical backpack to help with his combat capabilities.

Holy hell this took a while.

Added picture for symbol.

Reworked appearance to make it more lifelike. Added description of mechanical arm and included new backpack.

Rewrote half his history to flesh out story. Added more detail (He went on a mission, put himself in danger to protect his teammates, got a new shield and sword, graduated and went to Beacon)

Changed personality slightly. Added more descriptions.

Changed and improved combat behaviour. Now more relatable and easier to understand.

Completely rewrote Dischord's primary form description and removed dust functions. Added picture of Dischord, Harmony AND sword bits.

Added a new section which has not been approved, but I do not plan on bringing it to the table until later. Does not exist currently.

I think I'm done here.

CHARACTER

Name: Setsuna Antiqua

Age: 18

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol:  Two neon green O's overlapping together forming a infinity sign with a black background
[spoiler=image]http://previews.123rf.com/images/vlastas/vlastas1409/vlastas140900044/31899003-Green-infinity-symbol-on-the-black-background-Stock-Vector.jpg

Occupation: First year Beacon Academy student

Appearance: Setsuna is 175 cm, or 5'7" with a somewhat built frame. Along the left side of his body are faded scars from a fight with an Alpha Beowolf, the marks of which never truly disappeared. His shoulders are flat but slightly hunched over from the weight of his weapons.

Apart from the school uniform, Setsuna wears a white formal shirt with neon green markings, over which he wears a long-sleeved dark blue overcoat which ends just above his waist. He also has dark grey, faded and slightly battered loose jeans with a bandolier where normal pockets would be, holding up to 5 clips on each bandolier for his weapon. He also has a grey camouflage jumper which he sometimes wears. On his back, he has an exo-skeleton of sorts, consisting of a mechanical arm extending from the center of his back to his left shoulder, used for holding his shield. This is not concealed beneath his shirt, and can sometimes unbalance him due to it's weight.

While on missions, Setsuna also carries a small backpack containing food, water, Dust, and a small repair kit for emergency repairs. He is fond of keeping his weapons in impeccable state, and thus also brings a cleaning kit, whetstone and lubricant oil for that purpose.

As Signal Academy required it's students to do, Setsuna forged his own weapons along with the rest of his class, designing a basic sword and shield, in line with the "knight" theme that he strived for. The sword and shield he named Dischord and Harmony respectively, as his sword would "sow dischord among his enemies" and his shield would "bring harmony to the land of the honored". These were the weapons he used throughout his time at Signal.

Within his time at Signal, he also designed his own extra gear, eventually coming up with his mechanical exo-skeleton arm for better usage of his own weapons, becoming a self-reliant student. This did not go unnoticed by Signal's teachers, and he was selected among 4 people to embark on a mission not far from Signal, as a live combat test/teambuilding session. Their objective was to prove to the instructors their capability to eliminate a pack of Beowolves.

The mission went as planned, with the team not having much trouble, until a unexpected Alpha Beowolf showed up, likely attracted by the sounds of combat and the student's emotions. Only being students, this fight did not go as well as the previous, partly due to the fact that they already had to fight a pack of Grimm. In the end, the Alpha Beowolf went down after Setsuna drew it's attention, took the brunt of the hits and one of his teammates beheaded the thing. However, it did not go without incident. He had large gashes on both his body and shield from over-usage of his aura, and fainted from fatigue and his injuries soon after.

Upon waking in the hospital, Setsuna was congratulated on passing the test, and given a teacher's recommendation to
join Beacon Academy, which he gladly accepted after healing up in the medical ward. However, his shield had to be reforged due to the damage it took during the fight. This was not a problem as the school provided Setsuna with any material he needed, as well as the assistance of a local smith. Thus, the current Dischord and Harmony was born. Armed with his new gear and the recommendation, Setsuna graduated from Signal with flying colors and entered Beacon with a unyielding will to uphold his creeds.

Personality: Setsuna is a open-hearted, friendly and polite person, making most everyone take a liking to him, given time. He has shown a caring personality to those he trusts, as well as observing proper courtesies with nary a complaint. He is relatively social, but will not actively engage people in talk unless there is a certain reason, often preferring to listen and learn. However, this isn't the case when talking to his friends, as he opens up to people he trusts. Setsuna has shown a interest in reading, especially in mechanics, to further improve Dischord and Harmony. When under stress, which is not often, he shrugs it aside and doesn't let it bother him. He does not feel any different toward Faunus, and treats them like he treats every other person: cheerful and uplifting.

In battle, he makes an attempt to keep an eye out for his teammates, ready to protect them from harm and even take the hit for them if necessary. He is always ready to trade his own safety for the protection of others, and if he fails to do so, he normally berates himself mentally for not being there on time for his friends, and not upholding his creed.

When fighting Grimm that pose a challenge, he has a tendency to honour those who fought bravely with a line: "requiescat in pace", which means "rest in peace".

Aura and Semblance: Setsuna's Aura glows neon green, and while not particularly powerful or much help in terms of boosted strength, he has a relatively large Aura pool to draw from to use his Semblance. He is capable of using his aura to deflect weak attacks, but has not unlocked the full potential of that skill yet. When he uses his sword's buster mode, the aura extends to cover the blade itself and makes it glow. The strength of the glow varies with the amount of Aura Setsuna has.

His Semblance, the so-called "Quantum System" grants Setsuna the benefits of increased movement and reaction speed, making Setsuna's entire body and weapons glow a pink-reddish hue instead of the normal neon green, as well as leaving afterimages wherever he moves, although the afterimages are just a visual effect. It actually affects Setsuna negatively as opponents can see where he is moving. This allows him to react and move around fast enough to rival Speed glyphs, able to cut incoming projectiles in half or even quarters to avoid harm, or simply move around really fast. His sword strikes are much faster with less time in between, but there is no change in velocity or base damage.

However, this does not slow or quicken time for either Setsuna or his opponent. If he takes a heavy blow during the duration of his Semblance, it will forcibly end and leave him incapable of reactivating his semblance for a short duration. An aftereffect of the Semblance is that when it ends, no matter the duration it was active for, Setsuna will be visibly tired, and thus hit less hard, move slower and react slower than usual for around 30 seconds. He can keep this semblance up for about a minute or so, even under strain or pressure. This Semblance can be used for up to 3 times in a row, with a minute of "cooldown", but if he goes over 3 times, the reaction and speed is significantly slower.

Combat Behavior: Setsuna's combat behavior is similar to the way he treats others: fair and square. He follows rules of chivalry like the knights of old, albeit with several technical alterations, only playing unorthodox when his opponent does. He prefers a balanced approach to most enemies, showing little weakness and not making many risky decisions, but will take an opportunity to strike if one presents itself. When using his semblance, however, he assumes a more flighty approach to fighting, striking and retreating continuously, tiring out his opponent.

Due to Dischord's long range for a sword, Setsuna can safely engage spear-users, but due to the lack of ranged options at his disposal (Dischord's pistol form and Harmony's Sword Bits), he is vulnerable to long-range weapons, especially heavy-hitting rockets and grenades, as Harmony was designed for swordfights and not explosions. However, this deficit can be somewhat negated by his "Quantum System" semblance, allowing him to close the distance between his foes incredibly quickly.

WEAPONS

Name: Dischord and Harmony

Primary Weapon: Dischord is not your average longsword by any means. The blade consists of a normal longsword handle and an enlarged hilt on a swivelling stand, painted in dark blue. The neon-green blade is embedded in a grey "holster" of sorts, and the whole blade measures around 47 inches, or 4 feet. Attached to the hilt are two blue edgeguards, one longer than the other and both strangely angled downwards to protect the user's hand. When not in use, the neon-green blade retracts into the "holster", leaving only the handle and the hilt stored at Setsuna's waist.

Simplified: Longsword with a green blade and an enlarged hilt.

Secondary Form: When Dischord is in it's pistol form, the blade and the base turns sideways, the handle angles downward slightly and the two edgeguards spread out, one to act as a aiming sight and the other to act as a handguard. Two slots open in the base of the hilt to expose barrels and can fire 9mm rounds, not very powerful but enough to deter weaker Grimm. From a full cartridge, Dischord can fire 10 shots from both barrels before requiring a reload.

Simplified: Blade turns sideways and exposes two barrels. Handle turns into gun handle.

Secondary Weapon: Harmony is Setsuna's shield. It is shaped like a elongated hexagon, the length of which is from Setsuna's hand up to near his shoulder, with layers of prussian blue and white armor, with slots around the side.

The main usage of Harmony, apart from the obvious "defense", is its six green Sword Bits, mounted around Harmony.

Simplified: Shield with extra swords attached. Swords can be used to create a buster sword.

History: The original design of Dischord and Harmony was a simple sword and shield. However, as time progressed, in their simplicity, they just weren't enough. They received a big upgrade after Setsuna's mission as he recognised the need for heavier-hitting weapons.

Not in use until further notice (Not approved yet): ShowHide

Tertiary Weapon

Name: Equilibrium

Primary Form: Equilibrium is a upgrade to Setsuna's arsenal, taking the appearance of a 50-inch-long buster sword, which can double as a massive shield. It is shaped similarly to a isoceles triangle with a handle on the bottom, and is holstered at Setsuna's right shoulder, opposite Harmony, on an new mechanical extension of the original exo-skeleton. When holstered, it can swing to the front and back, similar to Harmony when mounted on the arm. The sword is mostly blue, with white metallic components and neon green blades, similar to the colour scheme of Harmony and Dischord. Attached to the sides and surface of the sword/shield are 3 new sword bits that double as daggers, with the white handles on the side and bottom of the blade acting as secondary grips for easier wielding. Due to it's massive weight, Setsuna cannot wield, or even holster this weapon for long, and stabs it in the ground when not in combat usage.

Equilibrium fills the role of both a buster sword and a shield, but it's massive weight makes it incredibly cumbersome for a sword. However, it's length dwarfs Dischord's, and as such, is a better option against bigger enemies as it packs a much bigger punch. In contrast, however, Setsuna simply cannot move around as much due to the blade's massive length and weight, having to hold the sword in both hands and swinging it like a club.

Similarly, Equilibrium also serves as a shield better than Harmony, due to it's larger size and durability, but is also harder to move around with. When using Equilibrium as a shield, Setsuna likes to simply stab the blade-end into the ground and take cover behind it, or if in combat, keep it on his exo-skeleton arm and rotate it forward. The whole construct is made of a combination of steel, nano-lamininated armor and Kevlar plates, resulting in a incredibly resilient, if very heavy, shield.

When using Equilibrium in this form, Setsuna resembles a Greek gladiator.

[spoiler=picture]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_c56yokXmUyU/TMgXfWpgnNI/AAAAAAAAB1I/B3LyXBNh2M0/s1600/04.jpg

History: Forged in Beacon when even Dischord and Harmony weren't enough for the job, Equilibrium solidifies Setsuna's position as an all-round fighter as well as defender. This particular weapon was inspired by his team, and made by his own hands, representing the balance between each weapon and balancing both aspects of Dischord and Harmony into one entity, thus the name of "Equilibrium".

CHARACTER

Name: Setsuna Antiqua

Age: 18, 21st of Tulikuuma

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol: [spoiler]http://wallpapercave.com/wp/S4y5x15.jpg

On missions/ in combat, Setsuna goes nowhere without an custom metal backpack, which holds a metal rotatable arm for his weapon of choice. In addition, the backpack holds a small amount of essentials: Dust ammo, scroll, and whatever else he fancies. He wears a blue bracer with silver line markings on the back of his right arm.

History:
because of length: ShowHide
As a child, blissfully new to both the wonders and horrors of the world of Remnant, young Setsuna Antiqua spent his childhood in the peaceful island of Patch, as the son of the retired hunters Emile and Marina Antiqua, along with his younger sister, Jocelyn, as ordinary a life as could be in the war-ravaged lands of Vale and beyond.

Setsuna and Jocelyn, although brother and sister, took after their father and mother respectively; while Jeanne was quiet and self-conscious even at a young age, Setsuna was, as the saying went, “like father, like son”: caring, outgoing, cheerful and all-around energetic for his age.

These were the words that indicated Setsuna's first steps, the words that made Setsuna rise from his unconsciousness, feeling the shallow gashes on his arm and chest quickly fade from existence, replaced with the warm glow of his Aura. and the concerned face of his father. He later learned that he was very lucky to have survived, with his parents rushing to the scene and Emile beheading the Grimm in one fell swoop. However, the thought in front of his mind was: was Jocelyn ok?

His answer came several seconds later in the form of a flying hug from a crying Jocelyn and Marina; the former because she had been feeling really guilty about everything, the latter because she was simply overjoyed that her son was safe. For a moment, the family was back together again, as if nothing had happened. Everything had turned out for the better.

Except for the radiant green glow emitting from Setsuna's body. His Aura had been unlocked by his father in order to heal him, but now Setsuna needed more. His Aura was unlocked, he argued. "Why shouldn't I take the path you yourself have chosen, Father?" Part of this was already long coming; Emile had read to Setsuna of stories long past, of valiant deeds both sung and unsung, heroic tales of honorable combat, sacrifice, chivalry, and of the knights that performed such acts of courage.

In time, when he was of age, with what small combat knowledge his father could impart, Setsuna entered Signal Academy. Within, as Signal decreed, every Hunter-in-training must needs forge/create his/her own weapon, and Setsuna was no different, choosing the simple yet effective combination of a sword and shield. Already, with his choice, he could carry out his ideals to protect and defend. These were the weapons that served him through his time at Signal.

This didn't go unnoticed by the teachers. In his final year of Signal, the class got put into teams of 4 for a final mission before graduation, a task of teamwork/live combat test. However, that last attack brought Setsuna's aura down to zero, causing him to faint from his injuries.

Luckily, the instructors overseeing the task deemed the sacrifice a necessary one, and allowed Setsuna to forge a new set of weaponry before graduating. Enter Dischord and Harmony, his new sword/shield combo.

Aura and Semblance: Aura Color-- Lime Green /#00FF00

Think of Quantum Burst as a rechargeable battery. When not in use, Setsuna runs on 70% of the battery's power. Quantum Burst essentially releases the battery's limiter, allowing him to run full burst--100% of the power, and using up the power faster than normal. However, the power eventually depletes, with the maximum operating time at 1 minute, before it is completely drained. When that happens, the power must recharge back up to 70%, meaning Setsuna will move, react and hit slower, as well as feel physically tired for half a minute. Any damage dealt during recharge is also lessened slightly. The time between each use is also half a minute, but repeated uses puts strain on Setsuna, causing possible blackouts after 3 continuous uses. This does not slow or speed up time for Setsuna, and Quantum Burst can forcibly end if Setsuna takes a heavy blow (15% aura damage or above) while his Semblance is running.
basically...: ShowHide

+Increased movement and reaction speed
+Leaves afterimages which may confuse opponents
-Maximum 1 minute timer
-Can end forcibly
-Recharge leaves Setsuna vulnerable
-Overuse can cause fainting

Combat Behavior: Setsuna's battle style can be separated into two distinct sections: Out of Semblance and In Semblance.

Out of Semblance: A balanced and safe fighting style is most commonly seen when Setsuna's not in Quantum Burst mode. Trading blows, countering risky moves, and standing ground are some of the most common options utilised, with quick, light slices and slightly heavier slashes, the odd shield bash, and the usage of sword bits if he gets disarmed. With Dischord in buster sword mode, the swings become slower and stronger, with more opportunities for opponents to exploit the slow movement the weight causes. However, in return, Setsuna's reach is doubled, and using the shield for attacks can be unexpected. Against ranged foes, Setsuna can trade gunfire and use his shield as cover effectively. While his damage output is not high, this is counterbalanced by the low damage he receives in return.

In Semblance: Forgoing any defence in preference for high-speed hit and run tactics, it is common for Setsuna to dual-wield Discord and a sword bit while rushing, chipping at the opponent, then engaging from another angle at high speeds. The afterimages left by his movement, if closely packed, can confuse opponents, and attacks are much quicker in this mode. Alternatively, Dischord's buster mode is much more lethal due to the increased swing speeds and the opponent not being able to capitalise on the original weaknesses. Ranged foes prove no problem since he can cover distances quite quickly. However, after the effects fade, Setsuna is forced to fight more defensively than he would like, since his movement and reaction speeds are reduced. This is his opponent's chance to press the advantage.

WEAPONS

Name: Dischord

Primary Form/Melee mode: Dischord consists of a normal longsword handle and an enlarged hilt on a swivelling stand, painted in dark blue. The neon-green blade is embedded in a grey "holster" of sorts, with the whole blade measuring around 47 inches, or 4 feet. Attached to the hilt are two blue edge-guards, one longer than the other and both strangely angled downwards to protect the user's hand. When not in use, Dischord is sheathed at Setsuna's waist.

Secondary Form/Range mode: When Dischord activates Range mode, the blade and the base turns sideways, the handle angles downward slightly and the two edgeguards spread out, one to act as a aiming sight and the other to act as a handguard. Two slots open in the base of the hilt to expose barrels and can fire 9mm rounds, not very powerful but enough to deter weaker Grimm. From a full cartridge, Dischord can fire 10 shots from both barrels before requiring a reload. This mode is rarely used.

Name: Harmony

Primary Form: Harmony, Setsuna's upgraded shield, is shaped like a deformed hexagon, the length of which is from Setsuna's shoulder to 3/4th of his arm, layers of prussian blue and white armor, with slots around the side.

The main usage of Harmony, apart from the obvious "defense", is the 3 pairs of 2 green Sword Bits, mounted around Harmony. The Sword Bits can detach from Harmony, expanding from the slots, or can simply fan out to create a larger surface area, and can combine with Dischord to create a buster sword. In this form, Dischord's handle extends to make a dual-handed greatsword. The Sword Bits can also act as extra swords for Setsuna to use, but are merely a backup option.

Spoiler: ShowHide

History: The original weapons that carried Setsuna through Signal were broken and destroyed during a fateful fight. Dischord and Harmony were their successors, and ones that Setsuna forged himself. Two of Setsuna's important possessions.

Name: Equilibrium / Full Saber Kit

Primary Form: Equilibrium is a upgrade to Setsuna's arsenal, slightly longer than Harmony, taking the form of both a greatsword and shield. It is shaped similarly to a isoceles triangle with a handle on the bottom, and is mounted at Setsuna's right shoulder, opposite Harmony, on an new mechanical extension of the original exo-skeleton arm. When mounted, it can swing to the front and back, similar to Harmony when mounted on the arm. The sword is mostly blue, with white metallic components and neon green blades, identical to the colour scheme of Harmony and Dischord.

However, the length of the blade dwarfs Dischord's, and as such, is a better option against bigger enemies as it packs a much bigger punch. In contrast, however, Setsuna simply cannot move around as much due to the blade's massive length and weight, having to hold the sword in both hands and hitting slower in exchange for more force.

History: Forged in Beacon when even Dischord and Harmony weren't enough for the job, Equilibrium solidifies Setsuna's position as an all-round fighter as well as defender. This particular weapon, made by his own hands, represents the balance between sword and shield, balancing both aspects of Dischord and Harmony into one entity, hence the name of "Equilibrium". Alternatively referred to by Setsuna as his "Full Saber Kit", it first saw use during a detoured mission.

CHARACTER

Name: Setsuna Antiqua

Age: 18, 21st of Tulikuuma

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol: [spoiler]

On missions/ in combat, Setsuna goes nowhere without an self-made metal backpack, which holds a metal ajustable arm for his weapon of choice.

Setsuna and Jocelyn, although brother and sister, took after their father and mother respectively; while Jocelyn was quiet and self-conscious even at a young age, Setsuna was, as the saying went, “like father, like son”: caring, outgoing, cheerful and all-around energetic for his age.

The sword is mostly blue, with white metallic components and neon green blades, identical to the colour scheme of Harmony and Dischord. Attached to the sides and surface of the sword/shield are 3 new sword bits that double as daggers, with the white handles on the side and bottom of the blade acting as secondary grips for easier wielding.
