CHARACTERName: Lucas Irving
Age: 17 (28 Hitahita)
Species and Gender: Human, Male
Symbol: See above
Theme Song: Evil WaysOccupation: 1st Year Student at Beacon Academy, Barista at the Schnee's Schnapp's
Appearance: Lucas stands 5'10 tall and has an athletic build, complete with a six pack he loves showing off with tight shirts because since he has it, he might as well flaunt it. His great body is complimented by a radiant smile and soul-filled blue eyes. He keeps the sides of his blonde hair short while styling his hair to be tall and thick on top. Lucas' typical posture includes a devilish grin on his face while both hands rest comfortably on either side of his hips. He stands tall, projecting a warm and welcoming confidence.
When hunting, Lucas typically wears a black leather with a white fur collar styled like the old bomber jackets with one exception. The left shoulder has a silver shoulder guard used to protect against attacks while his left forearm is covered in a metal gauntlet. The jacket is accented by silver studs and the back has a
white Gothic cross design on the back. The jacket is left unzipped so his white, v-neck t-shirt with the black
Awen design can be seen. His silver-studded leather belt is typically covered up by Absit in its travel form but both accent his black pants really well. His right thigh proudly displays the holster containing his .50 caliber revolver Deis Irae while his left thigh has what appears to be a black carrying case strapped to it. Lucas wraps up his attire with black leather boots because he has learned the value of a good pair of boots over fashion statements.
History: Lucas' father was the owner and manager of a small, independent security organization operating outside of the kingdoms while his mother was a pilot who flew one of the group's airships. Lucas was more or less born into the family business, starting with simple tasks like cleaning the shops and equipment, bookkeeping, and weapons/equipment maintenance. The older he grew, the greater his role became in the family business. He started going on missions in secondary roles like co-pilot, a field technician, or an ammunition carrier. His father wouldn't wait long before placing Lucas in combat roles at a graduated rate. His first roles were within his father’s team where he could be watched over and, as Lucas grew, so did his degrees of responsibility. He eventually became a team leader like his two brothers Liam and Riley. His father and Liam, his older brother, used this time to instill the fundamentals of leadership into Lucas. Ideas such as being polite and groomed to interact with the village elite during contract negotiations, inspiring his team to achieve the mission, and being able to plan efficient and effective military operations for his team.
Throughout this time Lucas saw many villages sprout up outside of the kingdoms. Some survived, a few even thrived...But just as many, if not more, were snuffed out by the darkness. That darkness was not limited to grimm either. Humans and faunus were just as likely to cause a village to fail as the grimm were. The only difference was that humans and faunus were far worse in the way they went about it in Lucas' mind. He knew this because there were several jobs where he had to fight off human and faunus when protecting the towns. It didn’t matter what these vagabonds called themselves (bandits, freedom fighters, whatever) they all wanted to raid the towns for their wealth, supplies, and sometimes more sinister spoils. They’d then leave whoever survived the attack defenseless against the grimm that were sure to follow. Heck, there were even a few groups that started their attacks by crashing the village gates with vehicles that released grimm into the town. Those were the kind of groups that Lucas and his family were hired to conduct ‘pre-emptive’’ strikes against. Though to be honest, it was hard to tell when pre-emptive strikes became retaliatory strikes after a while.
One of Lucas’ last mission was one such strike. His team went in alone to what should have been a relatively easy mission as the reported number of enemies was 4 to 6 bandits. What the report didn’t include was the skill level of the bandits. The battle was hard fought and Lucas found himself, the last able body on his team, facing off against the two remaining bandits. One bandit’s semblance was discharging lighting while the other bandit used harmonic resonance. He won the battle and killed the remaining bandits, but not before his left arm was broken and his weapons were all but destroyed. He learned several very valuable lessons about the inherent vulnerabilities of his armaments and swore to overcome them.
The last mission the group went on, Lucas was left behind because of his broken arm. That mission went south and Lucas blames it on himself. His father's airship was shot down responding to a village's desperate plea for help. Lucas had his mother immediately fly him to his father's last known location, despite still having a bad arm. He recovered his father, who is barely alive and found out that the grimm attacking the village were brought in by friends of the bandits Lucas killed. Lucas got his father on a medevac but stayed behind, being attacked by both the grimm and the bandits, to try and save what villagers he could by bringing them to a secondary airship for extraction. In the aftermath Lucas decided to apply to beacon academy because he wanted to be a hero, a knight and he didn’t see himself becoming that if he stayed in the family business. He’d need to become a huntsman.
Personality: Lucas was robbed of his childhood so he finds many things people do around him absurd or childish. Combine this with his frank manner and strong sense of morality and he can come off as judgmental or elitist. An elitist he may or may not be, but no one can question his manners when he is in polite company. It will take some time getting to know Lucas before you break through his diplomatic shell to get a more candid response from him, usually coupled with dark and witty humor.
Getting through Lucas' diplomatic shell is only one of several mental barriers he has put in place to help him cope with the war-like environment he has been raised in. For example; you may be able to hold a conversation with Lucas about religion or politics but don't expect him to freely discuss his past or his feelings beyond what is socially acceptable (i.e. his childhood was pretty much like everyone else or that he feels anything other than happy, angry, or hungry).
Emotionally he is damaged. He lacks confidence in himself and can't explain why. Outwardly he will appear fine, but internally self-doubt will overwhelm him without the support of others. Yet he will sacrifice nearly anything and everything to support and protect those he cares about. This makes his personality almost paradoxical as he allows all sorts of uses and abuses against him but when others depend on him he won’t fail because he feels he cannot fail, not them. The best term for this is probably a self-sacrificing martyr. He also avoids emotional problems, preferring to drink emotions away as opposed to facing them, a trait he picked up from his father.
Academically this boy is an all-star. He has a disciplined regiment that involves physical training, intellectual studies, and spiritual reflection to provide a balanced individual. He focuses on healthy living with proper diet (sprinkling in some alcohol here and there), workouts focusing on healthy life through a holistic approach as opposed to specific areas, and he meticulously plans how to achieve his goals. The problem is that he is so good at this when it comes to 'work' that he does the exact opposite for 'play'. He is just fine lounging around in a lawn chair, feet soak in an inflatable toddler pool, reading a book, sipping a beer, and asking when the food is going to be done. His fun/social life could learn a thing or two from his professional life but he is too 'burnt out' to do much other than lounge around in his free time. He really would prefer it if someone planned that stuffed for him and simply dragged him along to it, even if it is 'absurd and childish'. Who knows, maybe it'll help him experience his lost childhood?
Aura and Semblance: Lucas's aura is a bright white light that is above average for a first year student at beacon. His semblance is light manipulation and it fits him perfectly; versatility and deception. You'd be surprised what being able to alter light can do for you. Focus on a small area like the area in front of your eyes and you can filter out the light to become infrared or night vision. Heck, why not combine them both to get active infrared night-vision? Make subtle changes to the appearance of the arrow or bullet fired at an enemy to cause them to dodge a certain way. Distort light to make heat mirages is another simple technique that requires a little bit of energy combined with a little bit of imagination (Easy to use to distort Lucas' visual movements). Or create a bright flash to blind something.
More complex uses that require greater concentration and energy include complete invisibility, create a complete and sustained 'hologram' of a complex object, like a moving human, that isn't there, or creating a focused laser. The last is theoretical as Lucas has never been able to focus light enough to generate a laser yet, but the science is sound.
Combat Behavior: Lucas focuses on mastering the fundamentals of fighting like form, footwork, and use of terrain because he knows what separates elite soldiers from regular soldiers isn't some fancy upside down shooting while sliding down a rope. What separates the elite, truly legendary soldiers throughout history, are the ones disciplined enough to continue to practice the fundamentals after achieving their mastery. The downside to this philosophy is that you won't see Lucas spending a lot of time on advanced or incredibly complicated techniques like the quivering palm or the Amakakeru Ryū no Hirameki. Most of these moves are superficial or impractical in a true combat environment where you won't be facing opponents in a sterile environment for one-on-one combat. This also means that Lucas will be at a disadvantage against someone who specializes in a single form of combat. A good comparison would be an infantryman who mastered the fundamentals of marksmanship and close quarters combat facing off against a sniper or a karate master; he could put on a good show against them both but he’d lose in the end if he just went blow for blow. Not to mention the fact that the fundamentals, no matter how mastered, can be predictable and exploitable by a savvy opponent.
What Lucas does value is the ability to adapt to any situation, which is reflected in his weapon's design. Though he prefers, and excels in, close combat with others, he is quite capable at mid and long range. What is even better is that his fighting style allows him to handle each range with several methods. The enemy is blocking all of Lucas' strikes with a massive shield? Lucas can easily switch to an attack that'll wrap right around that obstacle. Or perhaps a more subtle approach would work best by distracting or misdirecting his opponent while perhaps dropping a small trap to be sprung later. Heck, Lucas will even throw sand in his opponent's face if need be. He has no qualms about doing whatever it takes to win in a life or death situation.
There is a downside to this adaptable fighting style Lucas has developed. Most of the methods he uses to bypass obstacles during a fight are have been well-rehearsed. He does his best to prepare for every possible outcome and will be even more effective if he has had the opportunity to study his opponent prior to fighting. This downside to this planning causes Lucas' counters to be predictable after a while. Eventually he will run out of the 'tricks' he has practiced to overcome those obstacles and, if the opponent is still standing, he knows his opponent will be controlling the fight and that is a very dangerous position to be in.
WEAPON Name: Absit
Primary Form: Absit’s primary form is a longsword made of spring steel, the best material known to man to make a longsword out of. A Celtic knot decorates the entire 44-inches of the double-edge blade, save the fuller. The silver colored cross-guard, decorated with Celtic knots made of ivory filament, forms a hollowed out reuleaux pyramid pointing towards the blade (and assumingly the enemy).
There is a circular device where the blade meets the cross-guard. This device is a chamber for storing Absit’s dust vials. The outer circle is formed of the 12 zodiac symbols in order that glow with the color of the dust in that single use cartridge. The interior circle is designed like the kabbalah, with the circles glowing according to the dust type being connected like the kabbalah tree, to allow Lucas to mix his dust as the situation calls for it. The dust in the interior circle is fed a tube housed in the grip, insulated against heat/electric attacks, of the sword and is refilled by removing the silver pommel.
Secondary Form: Absit’s secondary form is a whip-sword that can extend to 132-inches in length. Absit’s fuller houses the ‘chain’ that is really comprised of a polyester webbing for its superior strength, durability, and ability to keep the sword tightly together without risk of stretching the material. This also allowed him to weave in the feed from the dust chamber through the length of his blade, even in whip form. The various sections of blade are almost unnoticeable and it is unlikely that the casual observer will be able to identify the sword as a whip-sword. Each section of the blade is designed symmetrically and allows Lucas to disguise the whip-sword as a metal belt he can wear with the dust chamber appearing to be the belt buckle.
Tertiary Form: Absit’s tertiary form is a bow-sword. The sword splits down the middle of the blade with the polyester webbing resting in the previously mentioned reuleaux pyramids on the cross-guard. This webbing forms the limbs of the bow with solid light forming the bow string and a system of cables from the blade sections to create a compound bow effect. The grip rotates along the dust chamber to accommodate the change in weapon type while the expose chamber reveals the muzzle where solid light arrows can be fired out of. These arrows can be charged for additional damage by holding the draw for longer OR three arrows can be fired in a single attack by drawing the bowstring with the entire fist. The multi-arrow shot is rather inaccurate and is primarily used for suppression or area effects.
Quaternary Form: Absit’s quaternary form is a simple one. The bow-sword’s limbs rotate from vertical to horizontal to form a handheld crossbow. This crossbow fires bolts made of solid light like the bow-sword form but they cannot be charged like the previous form. Lucas doesn’t particularly like this form but finds it necessary when he is only able to use one hand.
Dust Functions:- Air – Bow – Sonic attacks and sonic cone. Sword and whip – Wind slashes
- Fire – Bow – Explosive, flaming arrows. Sword and whip – Flaming sword of justice
- Water– Bow – A single, powerful water jet that is used to push the target in a specific direction. Sword and whip – Highly pressurized water used with the sword for a devastating drilling effect.
- Lightning – Bow – Lightning arrows that fire in a straight line, as opposed to the traditional arc of a bow, instantly. Sword and whip – Electrified attacks.
- Ice – Bow – Arrows that cause ice to form upon impact and can be used to slow or freeze enemies. Sword and whip – Used to create ice where the sword/whip strikes and the sword/whip can be embedded in the same place to increase the amount of ice created.
- Steam – The bow fires steam arrows that obscure and envelope the area around the point of impact. Multiple arrows can create a much larger obscured area. Sword and whip – Allows the sword/whip attacks to be charged up like an engine being revved up for additional steam damage, which can be very useful for those damage resistant types.
- Gravity – Bow – Can be used to create either a push or a pull effect where the point of impact is. Sword and whip – Augments the sword/whip by with devastating force from the gravity dust (applies to hits and parries).
- Earth – Bow – Similar to ice, the point of impact for Earth arrows creates instant stone. This can be incredibly useful in terms of versatility but usually has little use for combat. Sword and whip – Used to create rock formations of whatever light manipulation Lucas is currently creating
- Lava – Bow – Arrows that turn into molten rock when striking the target. These arrows are perfect for shredding heavy armor. Sword and whip – Uses to manipulate solid objects when stuck into them. An example would be sticking the sword straight into the ground to create a lava rock growth or slashing upward from the ground to create a wall of molten rock that eventually cools. Just don't have the sword stuck inside you when this function is triggered
- Cyan – Bow – Several arrows fire from multiple angles that can make one extreme curve to zero in on the desired point of impact(s). Sword and whip – Creates a sphere made of hexagons to protect against enemy attacks.
History: Lucas designed Absit and EIONPM after he broke his arm. They were more refined versions of the weapons he used during previous missions. He also was far more careful in the materials he chose when forging them after his arm healed and can't wait to test them at Beacon.
Name: EIONPM
Primary Form: EIONPM’s primary form is a silver gauntlet that covers Lucas' left hand and his left forearm. It has been insulated against heat/electric attacks and Lucas built in a quick release cord in the event he needed to ditch it quickly. The top of the forearm has what appears to be a retractable blade that is typically used for stabbing in close combat but can be used for parrying in a pinch.
Secondary Form: EIONPM’s secondary form rotates the retractable blade as it expands into a silver heater shield for protection with his family crest engraved into the shield. The heater shield can protect against a wide variety of attacks and is incredibly useful when Lucas decides to put himself in between innocent people and the bad guys.
Dust Functions:- Gravity – Used for a push/pull effect by the shield and gauntlet. The gauntlet also allows for a surprise against enemies by being used to propel ('push') Lucas high into the air using his hands instead of his feet.
Name: Dies IraePrimary Form: Dies Irae only hase one form; a .50 caliber revolver that fires bullets at the terrifying speed of 2,500 feet per second. The revolver itself is made of polymer materials to counter anyone who specializes on magnetism or electrical attacks. The only weakness obvious to Lucas at this point is a lower threshold against heat based attacks than its metal counterparts. He proudly displays this revolver on his right hip to give the impression to his enemies that this is his primary weapon of choice. The revolver has 6 shots and can be loaded with dust bullets that have the expected effects for each dust type. The revolver is typically loaded with dust rounds of the follow configuration 1: Fire 2: Ice 3: Gravity 4: Electric 5: Steam 6: Earth.
History: Lucas' father gifted him the revolver on his 13th birthday and he has carried it with him ever since.
ITEMS The black car Lucas has affectionately dubbed
Zorro.
Boots laced with gravity dust: used for increasing jump range or to 'double jump' while airborne.
Cartridge Bag – Contains three of each kind of dust cartridge for replenishing weapons or for 'other' uses. Other uses could include pressing a self-destruct timer (standard time is 10 seconds without modification) or simply being placed in the environment to be activated by a secondary stimulant set by Lucas himself (could be pressure, could be heat, could be electric, etc.). Changing the stimulant from the per-determined stimulant require a good 30 seconds per cartridge.
