Beacon Academy / Re: [sSR] Initation: Team TBD

By now, Yasha was in what he presumed to be the darkest parts of the forest.  Little sunlight was shining past the tree canopies to the forest floor.  With such low visibility, he had to be extra cautious now.  Certainly, his faunus senses helped him a bit, but he was still vulnerable.  Glowing pairs of eyes seemed to pierce through the undergrowth, visible only out of the corner of his eyes.  They leered at him, only to quickly dart out of sight and disappear when he turned his head towards their direction, the faintest of rustles in the brush the only sign they were ever there.  Though Yasha's demeanor betrayed no fear, he was no fool, and he knew that he was being stalked.  By what, he did not exactly know, but this far in the forest, it didn't take a genius to guess that it was Grimm, maybe a pack of Beowolves.  Yasha gripped the handle of his scythe tight.  He readied himself for a fight, but he sure hoped that his instincts were wrong and that it was a fellow student who was trailing him.

Yasha walked for what felt like hours in the forest, though his pocket device indicated only about thirty minutes had passed since he landed.  He had kept a straight path all during this time, so he was pretty confident that he was walking in the right direction - that is, the direction towards the ruins he saw earlier.  Still, the thought of going in the wrong direction, or even walking around in circles lingered in his mind and bothered him.  Forward ahead, the forest seemed to grow thicker and darker, as less and less light appeared to pierce through the tree canopy.

Thinking that now might be perhaps his last chance to get a gauge on his direction, he drew his scythe and held it out in front of him.  Taking the handle in both of his hands, he lowered the scythe a little, preparing himself.  As before, he focused and poured his semblance into the blade.  A moment later, he flung the scythe high into the air above himself, the weapon spinning like a pinwheel as it did before during his landing.  The scythe rocketed up past the tree canopy, a fair distance in the air above him.  When it had reached what he believed to be its apogee, he activated his semblance.  Once again, the muscular shadowy figure of his semblance took hold of the scythe handle.  Closing his eyes, Yasha focused on his semblance to see through it.

He could see the ruins again.  It looked like he was traveling in the right direction...but...did the ruins somehow seem farther than they should be?  But, he didn't have much time to dwell on it, the scythe was falling back down towards the forest floor again.  He released his concentration, and the semblance construct retreated back into the scythe.  Yasha watched as the scythe fell into some more trees a short distance away.  That wasn't a problem though.  In the blink of an eye, Yasha was already standing near the scythe, stuck blade first in the ground.  Pulling his weapon out of the ground, he kept going forward, his direction towards the ruins confirmed.

Yasha watched as the previous student launched into the air. and seeing where this was all going, he prepped his semblance and crouched into a stance ready for launch.  As he did so, his shadow subtly seemed to disappear as a faint shade crept up his body and into his scythe.  If an onlooker was careful, he or she might even say that the scythe emitted a peculiar but barely perceptible hazy glow.

Within a moment, Yasha was launched high into the air by the catapult.  Squinting his eyes against the air resistance as he sailed over the forest, he tried to get a scanning look at the ground below.  He could see a clearing and what looked like some ruined buildings out in the distance, but that seemed a little far off.  He wasn't sure if that was their objective, but with no other noteworthy features in this vast expanse of trees, those ruins seemed as good a place as any for some relics.

Yasha outstretched himself and brought his scythe over his head and hurled it into the forest below with as much force as he could muster, aimed as close to the ruins as was possible, which admittedly still probably not very close given their distance.  Yasha focused on his semblance, using it to feel out his weapon as it spun like a pinwheel into the trees.  Before long, the scythe embedded its blade into a thick tree trunk, which was great, because he was already starting to fall and needed to land quickly.

As soon as Yasha sensed that the weapon had stuck itself in a tree, Yasha activated his semblance.  The same shade that entered his scythe at launch left it, creeping quickly along its handle.  Within the blink of an eye, a shadowy construct in the shape of a large, muscular person appeared, grasping the scythe by the handle.  Another blink of an eye later, Yasha was on the ground next to the construct, and it merged back into his shadow, disappearing.  Yasha pulled his weapon out of the tree, thinking to himself "Piece of cake" with a small grin.  Looking around to orient himself, he then took off in a light jog in the direction of the ruins he saw earlier.

Yasha took off into a run after his apparent new teammate.  "So what's your name, partner?"  While they ran, Yasha kept an eye out on his surroundings.  The forest seemed quite empty, and besides his new partner and the other falling students, there was no movement at all that he could see.  Still, it wouldn't be much of a test if all their journey to the ruins was going to be unchallenged.

Yasha stopped and turned as he heard someone call out to him.  Looking over the girl that had called to him, he remembered the Headmaster's words - that whoever they first made eye contact with would be their partner.  "Well...now that you called out to me and responded, looks like there's no alternative except teaming up."  Hefting his scythe over his shoulder, he introduced himself,. "The name's Yasha.  Nice to meet ya."

I'll throw in Yasha Krasny, who is an NPC character I made.  I will de-age him and redo his background over time.  Not even sure if he's even going to be a faunus, but besides that, his abilities and equipment will more or less the same, in less advanced form.

Airi was waiting for Aurelia to finally emerge from the wooded section of the field.  Aurelia hadn't used her semblance at all in this entire bout, so Airi was sure that Aurelia was channeling it in the cover of the woods.  All of a sudden an aura horse broke out from the treeline and charged at her.  Airi did not flinch, as she was expecting something spectacular from Aurelia's semblance, though what exactly was unknown to her.  Rather, a small grin of expectation was on her face for having seen the semblance revealed at last.

Airi took up her arms to look as if her strategy was merely to hold her ground against the charge.  However, as Aurelia and her semblance crossed nearly two thirds of the distance, Airi moved to action.  Being in the ice dust fields had given her the advantage.  Taking one of the crystals she had previously collected, she activated the dust, along with a small amount of her remaining fire dust.  Immediately after the brief flash of light upon activation, a low-lying cloud of frosty mist enveloped the ring.  The mist reached up to approximately Airi's shoulders and obscured everything beneath it.  However, this was not the only thing Airi did with the dust.  Upon closer inspection, one could see that she also used the dust to create a thin layer of ice to cover the arena floor.  With this hindrance, it would be difficult to move agilely, as the ground was slippery and traction was poor.  "Let's see how that horse handles on ice," she thought to herself.  As for herself, Airi continued to stand her ground, for she was still not yet finished.

Airi clutched onto another ice dust crystal and waited for the perfect moment when Aurelia would be nearly upon her.  Given the speed of the horse, she needed not wait long, but every passing moment felt like an eternity, and it didn't help that Airi, as a time jumper, felt each one more keenly than the average person could hope to.  Eventually, she saw the moment with the perfect opening and let herself evasively fall backwards.  As she did so, Airi activated the dust crystal.  From where she just was, a cluster of long icicles erupted from the ground, piercing through the mist layer and shooting up like spears angled defensively against the charging horse and rider.  It was Airi's hope that her opponent would charge headlong into the cluster of icy spears and that the ice-covered ground would prevent Aurelia's mount from being able to react well enough to avoid them.

Airi had walked forth from the ice fields, but she remained outside the forest.  She had no need to enter into an area where she could not see her opponent clearly.  Though by no means a conflagration, the smoldering embers would mean that Aurelia couldn't take refuge in the foliage forever.  As such, Airi walked back away from the forest and back towards the ice dust fields, letting her time remnants mimic her movements.  In her head, Airi thought of what she would do when Aurelia inevitably did come forth from the forested area.  With her dust reserves low, apart from ice dust, there wasn't really much to work with, but she had an idea.  She kept moving back and forth to keep her semblance time remnants away from her.

Airi followed the other students throughout the train cars.  However, she didn't say anything.  Kei did raise a good point as to why there were empty crates, but Airi still did not comment on it, because she figured that the nutty Professor Nox was going to collect something at one point in their trip.  When the students came to the car sealed behind the more advanced security, Airi's interest was indeed piqued.  Surely there was something much more valuable than mere dust in this car.  She wondered about all the various things that could be behind the doors - prototype robots, advanced weapons, strange technologies, or maybe even a captive Grimm.  Ok maybe not the last thing, but she was still interested.  When Kei interrupted Airi's thoughts to ask for some powder, Airi simply shrugged.  Who carried around powder on missions?

Lyra watched as Sovereign knocked out Greatsword Girl, and upon his doing so, she released her control of her aura constructs.  The captured aura quietly dissipated.  When Sovereign offered Airi and her to go back to her place, she was a bit surprised.  After all, Sovereign was a complete stranger to her.  On the other hand, Airi knew Sovereign at least somewhat well, so that made it ok, she supposed.  She didn't have any reason to opposing taking up Sovereign's offer.  Still, Lyra looked to Airi to see if she was going to accept.

By now, Airi was at the ice dust fields.  As Aurelia blended into the forests, but failed to reappear, Airi had suspicions as to what her opponent was up to.  She had to flush her out before she could use her semblance.  As a result, Airi used some fire and kinetic dust from her gauntlet.  In particular, she combined the two, creating and launched the resulting mixture at the forest.  Fireballs rained onto the trees, igniting them and torching the treeline.  Airi then continued her bombardment by adding ice dust into the mix causing the fireballs to become firebombs.  Suddenly, the wooded cover that made the forest such favorably defensive terrain was turned into a deadly storm of shrapnel and splinters.  In the meantime, she took several of the ice dust crystals, using them to refill her own reserves of ice dust and stashing several more on her belt.  They could come in handy, especially if her tactic to force Aurelia out failed.  Airi then stepped forth from the ice dust fields, continued to pace slowly, and watched as the forest on the other side of the arena went up in flames.

Airi continued to circle around Aurelia, soon positioning herself in between her opponent and her discarded weapon, using her time remnants as threats to keep Aurelia in a defensive position.  Airi waited for a moment, postponing momentarily her time remnants while watching to see what Aurelia would do.  When she saw her opponent taking a defensive position and similarly waiting to see what action she herself would take, Airi quickly leaped towards Aurelia's discarded sword and take it for her own, at least for the duration of the fight.  With her time remnants remaining in between herself and Aurelia to protect her, and with her opponent lacking any ranged options, Airi took up Aurelia's sword and inspected it briefly giving it a quick swing or two.  She remembered it could transform into a rifle.  She saw one of the weapon's two triggers and pulled one.  Nothing seemed to happen, and indeed it looked like it was missing some part to engage in the other transformation.  Airi pulled the other trigger, and nothing happened, either.  It seemed both forms required some other part to engage in the respective transformations.  That was unfortunate.  At least she had another weapon to use in conjunction with her armored gauntlet.  With this, Airi resumed circling around her opponent, taking care to keep a great distance between the two.  Airi would need to find a way to get her opponent to break her defensive position.  Still, though, she had the freedom to take her time and figure such a stratagem.

Airi rejoined the rest of the world, ready to fight, but she immediately felt a pain to her wrist.  Before she knew it, Aurelia had wrested Atropos from her grip.  She was going to lose control of her weapon.  Nonetheless, Aurelia was off of her.  Just as Aurelia attempts to attack Airi with her own weapon, however, Airi, blocks the swing with her armored gauntlet before immediately grabbing the blade.  The thing about attacking an opponent downed at your feet with anything other than a stab, is that it leaves the stability of your stance much to be desired.  Airi capitalizes on this and immediately yanks towards herself, pulling Aurelia downwards.  Airi tucks in her legs and uses them to continue Aurelia's tumbling momentum and launch her opponent on to the ground behind her.  In the middle of Aurelia's mid-air tumble, Airi, owing to her familiarity with her own weapon, quickly reached up and ejected from Atropos its kinetic dust reserves.

As Aurelia landed on the ground behind her, Airi quickly got off the ground, and added Atropos's kinetic dust to that of her gauntlet.  Hastily, Airi reclaimed her thread spool, locked it, and replaced it on her hip, but she otherwise completely disengaged it from use.  She had no use for the threads now.  From here on out, it would just be her favored weapon and her semblance.  Airi stepped back away from Aurelia, started to walk in a circular path, and activated her semblance, creating a number of time remnants.  There was one at three seconds, five seconds, seven seconds, and ten seconds.

Airi felt her wrist pinned, so she could not proceed with her planned.  She had to think of something new, and quick.  She still held onto Fateweaver's threads, and it seemed that Aurelia wanted Airi to retreat to her semblance.  But the good thing about Airi's semblance was that it always gave her options.  The time remnant was fast approaching.  Time to put one of those options to use.  Airi re-secured the thread to her gauntlet using the latch mechanism.  Still gripping Fateweaver's threads with her gauntlet, she headbutt Aurelia.  Again, this wasn't meant to particularly damage her opponent, but instead to give her something to focus on.  The time remnant seemed to move faster than before.

Within a brief moment, the time remnant was nearly upon her.  Immediately, Airi activated half of her dust reserves in her gauntlet, and channeled it through Fateweaver.  Aurelia might have been putting weight on Airi's gauntlet, but that wouldn't stop her from using her semblance energy.  The energy crackled as the various dust types mixed, under control only by Airi's aura as channeled through her gauntlet.  Airi had no clear idea about what she was doing with the dust, but that didn't matter.  All that mattered was that the dust creation was volatile.  Airi, using her sword hand, gripped lightly at Aurelia's defending hand, not enough to seriously hinder Airi's grip of her weapon, but enough to slightly grip Aurelia's hand/fingers.

All of a sudden, Airi froze.  The time remnant, accelerated by Airi, had caught up to her.   She went into stasis, untouchable to the outside world.  As Airi temporarily dissociated from the world, the agglomeration of activated dust energy previously kept in check by Airi channeling through her gauntlet exploded in a large release of energy.  Airi, being in stasis, took no damage from the blast, but Aurelia, with her knee and torso over Airi's gauntlet, was exposed to the full brunt of the blast.  Aurelia might have been able to maneuver her shield to protect her, but it was unlikely, given how close to the ground the two were, how large the shield was, and how Aurelia' was kept in place by the stasis thread and Airi's light stasis grip.

After several brief seconds, Airi exited stasis and pushed Aurelia off of her, before preparing to re-engage with her weapons, leaving no time for Aurelia to get a break after the dust explostion.
