“Good afternoon Beacon students, Beacon competitors, and Beacon sponsors alike and welcome back to the forty-first bi-annual Beacon Festival tournament.” a refined and silvery female voice would say through the arena’s sound system, sounding as if someone had killed her puppy and took a big shit on her front steps. "Today’s Beacon festival match has two competitors from Beacon. Our first competitor is Sandy Smoke, whose semblance has as many applications as this tournament does students from Atlas! Facing off against him will be Setsuna Antiqua, with a semblance that can hopefully make this match go by faster!” Beginning to question everything she knew about Atlas, Prim would motion to her trusty partner Hunter to handle the environment spinner.

”You know, now that I think about it.” Hunter does the motion to start the holographic spinner. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words while Hunter continued his thoughts, ”Haven’t we seen the knight-shtick a little too much? And why are there so many hit-and-run students? I swear, we used to have students that packed more of a punch…” It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on Mountain and Ocean.

”Oh that’s not fun.” Rising on Sandy’s side would be massive formations of rock that stand tall, with parts of the mountains allowing standoffs that can be used to hang onto. As for Setsuna, there was only one large bank that goes off into vast body of water. Littered along the body of water would be remnants of a ship that can be used as cover and something to stand on.
As the spinner finished its job and faded away, the doors on each side of the arena opened to signify the start of the match.

(A coin flip has decided that Setsuna will get the first post. The arena size is identical to that of the 1v1 arena in the show, however, it features scaled down biomes to fit the size. Good luck, and may the best combatant win.)

Well, shit.

Being understandably nervous before his first ever fight with so many spectators onlooking, let alone participating in the illustrious Vytal Tournament of all stages, Setsuna had spent his time in the ready room looking over his equipment to the point of obsession and pacing back and forth, turning over every option in his head repeatedly when the doors to the arena hissed open. Gathering his nerves he resolutely strode forth and--

--and nearly walked straight into a small lake. Already this didn't look good, with no large tracts of land for him to fully utilise his speed on. The other side of the arena didn't look much better--pillars of rock rose like skyscrapers, again leaving little room to manoeuvre. While the debris of the wrecked ship ensured that he wasn't stranded, his gear meant swimming was out of the question. At the same time, he wasn't fast enough to run across water. Shit indeed.

Deciding to just go for it without introducing himself--so much for that comment about knights--he began to make his way across the water via leaps and bounds, albeit making very slow progress. While he did so, the line of sight to his opponent's gate became less obstructed, so he kept an eye out to see what his opponent would be doing.

Walking out Sandy quickly found himself staring up at a rockface. Rather convenient for him. blasting his grappling hook he quickly flew to the top of it and looked down to his opponent. As a show of sportsmanship he waved down at him.

Okay, either Sandy had a semblance of flight or he had something that enabled him to increase his mobility even more than his own semblance could provide. That scared Setsuna in more ways than one, but he decided to return the greeting by stopping mid-way through his debris-hopping to quickly wave back, before continuing to make his way to the big bank near the middle of the arena.

While he hadn't made any offensive moves yet, he also didn't look ready to launch an assault, basically an unspoken invitation for Sandy to join him in the centre of the arena for a few words of greeting.

it took Sandy a moment to recognize the invitation to meet in the middle and exchange words before starting but the moment he did he accepted gladly, hopping down and kicking off his perch flipping for show as he did so before landing in a roll and striding over towards the centre of the ring.

Setsuna grinned, glad to be able to converse with his first opponent rather than get blown out of the water--literally--before he could even say a word. Actually deciding to sheathe his sword on his hip to show his goodwill he finally stepped off the floating debris and onto the big sandy bank with relief. No stopping his feet from getting a bit soaked though--he made a mental note to purchase a pair of waterproof boots the next time he was in town.

"Well met, Sandy," he greeted his opponent. "Allow me to express my appreciation for accepting my offer." There was a polite smile on Setsuna's face while he did so, genuinely grateful that his opponent seemed to be thinking along the same wavelength as he was.

Sandy pulled out a red glowing orb and swung it in a circle of a cable coming from his wrist in an idle manner as he spoke with Setsuna. "No problem mate. I'm just glad my first opponent didn't turn out to be a total dick. This is meant to be a friendly contest right?"

"Yeah, though the way some people go at each other you'd think they murdered each other's family or something." Setsuna responded, eyeing the red orb with half curiosity half wariness. This was a fight after all, friendly or not, and judging from the crowd's muted reactions they were probably wondering what the hell was going on down there. "As nice as it is to chat I think we should get this started. Think the crowd's getting bored, and we can't have that."

Finally getting serious Setsuna drew his blade, standing just on the edge of the arena's centre circle. In his other hand he gripped Harmony, its weight and handle familiar in his palm. Holding his shield up in a defensive position, he moved his sword in a unmistakable motion of "come at me". "May the best fighter win."

"ah screw 'em. but yeah. we do need to start fighting at some point. Let's do this!" As he spoke the red orb stopped swinging and the cable retracted back into Sandy's arm, catching the orb in his hand as he did he chucked it at Setsuna's feet while pulsing his semblance to not miss the shot he fired behind him to reel himself back onto the cliff face he had come down from. Pulling himself away from the exploding orb at his opponent's feet. "Too bad for you I got the best environment I could!"

Shit. Setsuna leapt back, not fast enough to completely avoid the resulting explosion of fire but negating some damage by a minimal amount. He's right. With what looks like a grappling hook, he has complete territorial advantage over both the mountainous biome and the ocean biome. Keeping Harmony in a defensive position in front of him Setsuna was forced to already reveal his sword's rarely used range function to try and get some damage in. But from what I can see, he only has those dust bombs. He can fly around me as much as he wants but my shields can take the brunt of the damage.

Tracking Sandy's movement back onto the cliff face he had previously occupied, Setsuna unloaded 4 shots at his target while simultaneously relocating from his side of the arena to Sandy's where there was more cover.

As Sandy connected with the cliff face he kicked off and backflipped landing perched atop the cliff as Bullets started coming his way Sandy ducked back to give himself cover, only taking the first shot. With the cover Sandy used the time he had to fire a steel shooter in a V shape at the edge of the cliff face to become a human slingshot. Reeling in at full speed he launched himself into the air arcig to angle himself and then coiling his legs. Sandy intended to land straight on Setsuna and snap out as he did so putting full aura reinforcement behind the strike as well. Hopefully delivering enough force that even if intercepted it would likely send the target reeling.

The young knight's brows furrowed as nearly every shot was evaded by the agile Sandy who promptly vanished behind the cliff, only to reemerge almost instantly at neck-breaking velocities. It reminded Setsuna of being bowled a ball which was heading straight for a meeting with his face. But thankfully, with this move, Sandy had put himself in arm's reach--or rather, sword's reach.

Dropping both weapons in his hands for now Setsuna reached for the larger sword on his right shoulder, sidestepping and taking an almighty swing with both hands, aiming to catch Sandy as he was about to land and hopefully knocking him back a good distance.

Sandy twisted in the air as he realized his attack had missed and he had completely screwed up. He let out a gasp as a swing connected with his gut and slammed him into the ground. the force of the blow then bouncing him back up in front of Setsuna.

Every instinct Setsuna had screamed at him to press the attack as soon as he realised his wide swing connected. And so he did. Deftly detaching Equilibrium's parts to form another set of sword and shield he aimed two vertical slashes at Sandy's currently defenceless body, leaving his other weapons lying on the ground behind him.
