Title: Good News! You can ask me or my characters anything!
Post by: ReaperJoe on June 29, 2018, 10:33:39 PM
Do I really need to put anything here?  Title's kinda self-explanatory.

Might as well start off the AMA with a classic - what the inspiration behind Aurelia and Smokey, and do you have any plans involving their character development?

Smokey's inspiration was a friend's D&D character, a dwarf gunslinger who was given a gun that did tons of damage pretty early on (unrelated, but that character does more damage than the paladin and the rogue in the party combined, and they're both specced for damage.  He might just be a little OP).  I also really wanted to shoot a giant gun, because who doesn't like explosions?  I just needed an excuse to be able to use the over-sized weapons, so that's how his semblance came about.  As far as development, I know looks-wise, I'm planning on giving him tattoos for every Grimm he shoots with the Good News, but as far as ability development goes, I'll say I'm gonna leave that open-ended.

Aurelia, on the other hand, was an attempt to be unique.  It was also partly-inspired by D&D, namely the cavalier subclass of the fighter, but mostly I was drawn in by the idea of a knight in shining armor riding a fiery steed.  Combine that with the fact that I haven't seen any other mounted combatants on this site, I felt like she could provide interesting interactions both in combat and in social situations.  Fun fact, her original design was a cowardly boy riding an extremely out-going ostrich, but that ended up being too slapstick for my taste.  Development wise, I'm not really sure.  I haven't really gotten a chance to play her yet, but I hope she'll be better at making friends than Smokey is.

Can you think of any music that would suit your characters? Fighting themes or general leitmotifs?

I would beg to differ, my Rachel rides a tiger into battle...though I suppose technically that doesn't exactly count as cavalry.

Anyway, character alignment for both Smokey and Aurelia?

Sorry for the late reply, got caught up IRL.  Anyways, as far as character alignment goes, Smokey would be lawful neutral, while Aurelia would be lawful good.

Music took me a while to figure out, especially for Aurelia.  Smokey's theme would probably be Stand Proud (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AtIhuKn2No).  The Good News (yes, the gun has it's own theme song) would probably use this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGCsFwyra-E).

I don't really know about Aurelia, but I think Legends Never Die by Against the Current (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q46xYqUwZQ) serves as a decent stand-in for now.

To ask the question I've been pondering since Jima and Smokey destroyed a weight room together, what exactly is your icon and why choose it?

My profile picture?  It's a tiki mask that hangs up in my room.  His name is Pinky.

That is too good to be made up.

Full marks, SSS rank, 100/10.

Here's a slightly better question: how do you think Aurelia's going to react to her new teammates, considering she's joining team PLSM?

Assuming we're going with the members on the current roster, it has the potential to be interesting. First and foremost, Aurelia would almost certainly pour over Jima's Grimm research, trying to incorporate any relevant data into team training (even if she isn't made leader).  However, Jima should probably put forth considerable effort into keeping her...involvement in the weight room incident a secret from Aurelia.  Or be very good at hiding.  Otherwise, be prepared to get quite an earful.

As far as Mogan goes, I'm not really sure.  I guess it kinda depends on how Mogan reacts to Aurelia, but I don't know enough about his character.  Same for Suntalia, really.  I've only seen her played in one thread, and that thread ended rather abruptly.

What's Aurelia's plan and/or leadership model for dealing with the rest of Apricot, and how do you think she'll react to some of the rowdier members?

That's actually a good question, and I spent a couple hours thinking about it.  To make a long story short, Aurelia plans for Apricot to be a team known for having its shit together.  Unfortunately, she may not be too popular for the first couple of weeks, because her methods will be very--let's say "direct".

The first, and probably most reasonable, rule she'll implement is "Perfect Attendance" requirement.  That means no sleeping in, no skipping, no missing classes for any reason except those already approved by Beacon Faculty.  Failure to follow this rule will be impossible, because Aurelia will enforce it by using every means at her disposal, up to and including tying up a sleeping team member to Noble Steed and dragging them to class in their pajamas/underwear/in the nude.  This will also not be a surprise, as she will state that she will drag any attempted offenders to class herself.

However, if class is missed for any reason by any team member, Aurelia will do everything in her power to make sure the class is made up.  This will involve a mandatory tutoring session for all APRC members that will take place bright and early on weekends.  Yes, all APRC members.  "Chains are only as strong as the weakest link" as they say, and Aurelia will not tolerate weak links.  Keep in mind that "mandatory" implies the same "impossible to break" mentality as her Perfect Attendance rule.

Now, this brings me to another contender for most reasonable.  On weekends, Aurelia will require an hour of your time at a relatively reasonable hour for team training, generally extra sparring practice.  Assuming no other infractions, weekends are otherwise free.

That should generally serve as a good preview of Aurelia's temperament as a leader.  Overall, her rules aren't really that unreasonable.  "Go to class and do satisfactory work."  "Team training on weekends."  "Keep the room clean, and your things organized."  "Maintain personal hygiene."  There will only be problems when someone tries to break her rules, because her rules are not made to be broken.

So yeah, go to class, be a reasonable roommate, and perform to Aurelia's satisfaction, and you could get away with murder.

With regards to the site in general or character RP, is there anything specific you've wanted to do but haven't gotten the chance to yet?

Well, the thing I really want to do is use The Good News (Smokey's BFG) for its intended purpose to take out a boss monster.  Not anything legendary like the Shiru, the Dragon, or even a Goliath (though a Goliath would definitely feel it), but along the lines of a Giant Nevermore or a Deathstalker.

I also wouldn't mind trying my hand at running a plot thread, maybe something search-and-rescue-y, but who knows when I'll get around to doing that.

Also, finishing a thread would be kinda nice, too, but that's the biggest pipe dream of all.
