Title: An Off-the-Record Request [LLGD Initiation]
Post by: Flooberoid on February 10, 2018, 02:03:59 PM
Lissa slammed open the door to her team's dorm room with such enthusiasm that she knocked a can of writing utensils off of the nearby desk. She dashed into the center of the room before performing a quick spin and flourish to grab everyone's attention, a beaming and deeply dimpled smile across her face from ear to ear. "Hey, hey! Guess what?" She looked around the room to make sure everyone was listening before continuing. "I just signed us up for a mission! A real one!"

--

Professor Crystal Evermore let out a resigned sigh she had been holding in since the bubbly youth first entered her office. Beggars can't be choosers, she supposed. Still, what was the headmaster thinking, choosing a wild and irresponsible girl like her to lead a team?

Not that it mattered. If worst came to worst, Crystal could handle this mission singlehandedly. She only needed to make it official so she would have an excuse to leave the academy. She retrieved the info that girl had left her... Lissa Lime of team LLGD. Much to her dismay, it seemed that first letter "L" did not, in fact, refer to Lissa. Their leader was, in fact, named Leona... What a careless mistake, one that Crystal mentally scolded herself for making. With some hesitation, however, she decided it was worth bending the rules just this once. After all, the four of them wouldn't be in any real danger. With her approval, team LLGD was good to go on their mission.

Leon’s attention was swiftly taken away from her embroidery by Lisa’s exuberant entrance. Leona was always enthralled with Lisa’s antics. She wished she had the guts to do some of the things Lisa did. She smiled with anticipation as Lisa spun and did the flourish, that is until she told them what she had done.

I really wish you would have asked me first. I am the leader after all. She said with a pout.

Gray. who happened to be sitting at the desk that was hit by the door working on (and horribly failing) some assigned classwork jumped from his seat as Lissa burst in.  "WHAT THE HELL!" He turned towards Lissa as she was spinning and showing off waiting, slightly annoyed for an explanation as to the disturbance. Then he got his explanation.  "What? How did you-? Why would they?" Gray stumbled over his words as all the questions about how this could occur flooded into his thoughts until they all came out at once in one phrase he found himself using a lot around his new teammates.  "What the fuck!"

It was a normal day in the life of team LLGD. Gray was failing to complete any classwork--he fully sympathised with him--as usual, Leona was stitching something that he couldn't be bothered to peek an extra two inches to clarify what it was, and even Lissa banging the door open and eliciting a string of mumbled jargon from Gray didn't faze him too much. Until she revealed 'what'.

Graham swung himself from his lounging position on his bed to having his legs on the floor. "Oh, a real mission? Such a shame if we got a fake mission, wouldn't it?" He spoke in his usual sarcastic drawl. "So tell me, 'leader', what's this mission about?"

Lissa tilted her head and pouted at the response by her teammates. "You guys could be at least a little happy, you know. Most teams don't get a proper mission this early on!" Swiftly moving towards her desk, Lissa removed her bag from her back and slung it over the chair. From the bag, she pulled a sheet of paper and showed it off around the room. "This is my copy of the mission details Ms. Evermore gave me. Take a look! Seems pretty fun, right?"

On the paper was plain text formally outlining the specifics of the task at hand. As was Crystal's style, not an inch of the paper was wasted on superfluous information or fancy formatting.
Student Mission
The following task is approved to be carried out under the supervision of Professor Crystal Evermore, who will be accountable for her students' safety until either a report of mission completion is received or the team is otherwise officially removed from the mission and returned to Beacon Academy.
This task is the sole responsibility of team LLGD (Lissa Lime, Leona Koningsblauw, Gray Saggio, and Graham Dylandy) and their supervising professor. Outside parties are prohibited from interfering unless explicitly instructed to do so. Any unauthorized interference by Beacon-affiliated individuals may be punished at the discretion of the Academy.

Objective Summary:
A group of nomads was cornered by Grimm in the ruins of Mountain Glenn. They have managed to find shelter and relative security in a building near the southern limit of the settlement for the time being, but it is uncertain how long the structure will remain secure. The student team is tasked with evacuating the nomads and destroying any Grimm that threaten them. Failing this, the team is to return a report on the situation whereupon the supervising professor will advise further action if necessary.

At the bottom of the page were two signatures, both equally illegible in unique ways. One, presumably Crystal's, was elegant and flowing with a flourish on the terminating "e;" the other, Lissa's, was hastily and scratchily written in a sad attempt at what she thought cursive script approximately looked like.

Leona placed what she was embroidering on the bedside table. She then lifted her self from the bed she was sitting on and crossed the room elegantly to meet the dark-skinned girl. "Lisa, I am happy we have a mission. I'm actually ecstatic. But did you really have to..." Her sentence petered out as the paper with the mission details that was shown to her. Her face turned to anger when she saw that the team members of team LLGD where ordered wrong. "Lisa did you lie to get this mission?" But before Lisa could respond, Leona saw where the mission was located. Leona's face turned white as she backed away from the paper. "I don't think I'm allowed to go on this mission." She said with a shaky voice. "My dad would kill me for going back to Mountain Glenn, if we don't die first."

All Graham did was shrug when he heard both the mission details and their team leader's predicament, before returning to his original position on his bed, seemingly without a care in the world in regards to their mission. However, those who weren't busy arguing or perusing the copy of paper would see the boy looking at his mechanised katana and butterfly knife with scrutiny, as if checking them for combat readiness.

Gray took a while longer than the rest of his team to read the mission brief. By the time he was done reading he saw Leona white in the face and concerned about the location.  Woah. Leona? Are you alright? What's wrong? What about Mountain Glenn has you so spooked?"

Leona looked down at her hands as she responded. “My mom died at Mountain Glenn… I was a baby at the time but she was one of the many people who was trapped there when the… grim attacked. My dad is a hunter and saved me from getting eaten. T-that’s why I joined this academy. But this mission is Mountain Glenn! I just never thought I would have to go there.”

"I don't really get it, Lee," Lissa said as she sat down on the ground, pulling her legs in while staring up at Leona. "If that's what happened, shouldn't this be a great chance for you? We can stop the same thing from happening to someone else! That's what being a huntress is all about!" Lissa was once again beaming, trying to show Leona that this was okay. If her new team wanted to succeed, they would need their leader to be ready for anything.

...That and she didn't want to get in trouble.

"Makes sense for you to go back, leader." Graham idly commented. "Conquering your fears and all that. You'll probably also need to return there after you graduate anyway. And hey, any Grimm try to eat you again, this time you fight back! Not before they get cut down, but you get the point." He gestured at his sword. "Course, we can always turn down the mission if you're not ready to face your inner demons."

Leona thought about what Lissa said and saw Lissa smiling back up at her from the ground. She gave her a soft smile back and patted her head. It was true that this would be what being a huntress is all about. So when Grahm idly commented, she shook her head quickly at the thought of turning down the mission. She lifted her head with a new resolve in her eyes. "You guys are right. I should fight back and stop this from happening to someone else!" She helped Lissa on to her feet to give her a hug and whisper in her ear, "Thank you."  It appears that she forgot all about how Lissa got the mission.

She took a step back from Lissa and nodded to the boys. She then slid out a box with her dust gloves inside from next to her bed. "Shall we get ready to go then?"

"Mm-hm!" Lissa exclaimed, half-walking half-skipping over to her dresser. "There are people in trouble, so Ms. Evermore said we should meet up as soon as we can!" Lissa could barely contain her excitement at having a real mission already. Thankfully, she didn't have that much in the way of equipment; she slid Whirlwince and its sheaths onto her arms and was ready to go.

"...Oh! I nearly forgot!" Lissa gasped. "I have to tell Ms. Evermore we're ready to meet up!" She frantically started typing on her scroll as if her life depended on it, sending confirmation to Crystal that their group would be ready to get going in a few minutes.

((OOC: I can skip forward in time at any moment now.))

"Do that, Lissa," Graham said, already walking out the door in his combat gear. "In the meanwhile, the rest of us should go meet the professor. Not that being late's the worst thing we've done so far, but better to break as little school rules as we can. At least the ones we haven't already broken."

(OOC: Time skip after Gray? Do we skip straight to Mount Glenn or just to the airship?)

Once confirmation was given that they were ready to go Gray walked over to his bed and grabbed Lamnia and sheathed it with one blade on either side of his hip.  "Breaking rules is sometimes pretty fun though." Gray turned to go before turning back to Lisa.  'Wait a sec. Do we need anything other than our weapons? Also where are we meeting her?"

"Just grab your weapons and let's go!" Lissa said impatiently. "I'll lead the way." With that, she headed out the door.

---

Locating Crystal outside of Beacon Academy was an exceedingly easy task, as she had already prepared a vehicle for the team to use and was standing outside of it reading from some sort of notepad. "Hey there, Ms. Evermore!" Lissa yelled as she ran up to her teacher. "We're here!"

The voice Crystal heard was unmistakable. She didn't even bother giving Lissa her full attention, merely glancing over her glasses momentarily to address the girl. "Good day to you, Lissa." She stated simply and immediately returned to the notepad. When finally the rest of team LLGD caught up to their most enthusiastic member, Crystal dropped the notepad to her side and spoke up. "Ah, excellent. This is the rest of your team? And I assume this is your true leader, Leona." Crystal stepped closer to Leona and inspected her as Lissa retreated, embarrassed. "Yes, she certainly looks the part better than you do." Lissa opened her mouth to retaliate but for once thought better of it.

"We will be travelling via ground transport. This way, we can go undetected longer and deploy closer to the target. Remember, our goal is the nomads, nothing more. Do not engage Grimm unnecessarily." Crystal climbed inside of the transport, a six-wheeled offroad vehicle designed to be low and compact. The vehicle made so little noise that at first it was difficult to tell when Crystal turned it on. Soon, the sides of the vehicle slid open automatically from bottom to top, folding up onto the roof and revealing seats for four. It was clear this transport was designed for utility and not for comfort, as there was barely enough space inside for the taller members of the team to sit without hunching over.

Leona jogged up behind Lissa as they made it to their professor.

Quote
"Ah, excellent. This is the rest of your team? And I assume this is your true leader, Leona."

Leona stood proudly as she got inspected by Ms.Evermore.

Quote
"Yes, she certainly looks the part better than you do."

Leona would have smiled if she wasn't so shocked that a teacher would be so rude to say that.

She listened to the instructions of the mission and replied with, "Yes, Ma'am" before climbing into the vehicle for the ride.

Graham followed their leader into the transport, bemoaning the fact they would be stuck in this dingy, small vehicle for Dust knew how long. Still, he helplessly tried to make the most of the situation, shuffling and adjusting until he found a position that was less uncomfortable than the rest and slipping his headphones on, turning the music to his travel soundtrack. "Someone kindly wake me up when we get there. If we get there. If I fall asleep."

Being relatively used to discomfort Gray simply resigned himself to the situation and squeezed in behind his teammates taking of advantage of what space was left.  "Good thing we don't have any of those walking mountain guys with us. Then it'd be a real tight squeeze." Gray was about to respond to Graham until he saw the headphones and instead simply flashed him a grin and a thumbs up to indicate that he was going to take in the duty of waking him up.

"It's... not the ideal way to travel..." Lissa admitted sheepishly, taking the last seat. "But y'know, sometimes it's about the destination, not the journey!" Lissa absentmindedly misquoted one of her favorite platitudes.

((Just assuming nobody wants to rp the ride to Mountain Glenn... Especially since one of us is falling asleep. ^^;))

After an hour and a half of driving, the vehicle finally came to a stop before a grand mound of rubble. As soon as the doors opened, Lissa was the first to leap out, taking this opportunity to stretch her legs. The first half of the trip wasn't so bad, but once they got to Mountain Glenn the trip became unbearable as the vehicle slowed to a crawl, driving over rubble and repeatedly stopping to change course as another roadblock appeared. She spun around happily in the middle of the road before Crystal emerged and gave her a disciplinary smack on the head. "The entire reason we took that transport was to avoid drawing attention. If you keep behaving carelessly we may as well have just flown here."

As Lissa rubbed her head in pain and embarrassment, Crystal addressed the rest of the team. "We are close enough to the objective that I have elected to take the rest of the journey on foot. The terrain from here on out will be rough and the threat of Grimm always looming. Stay on your guard."

Leona gave a giggle seeing Lissa carelessly spin around, but quickly hushed herself when the professor took disciplinary action.

"Yes ma'am," Leon said bowing a bit to her professor.

Leona, as gracefully as she could, crawled out of the vehicle. She sorted out her skirt that tends to wad into a knot when in a car for a long time. She stretched her arms and legs quietly behind the professor's back. As she did so, she took a look around the ruined city. She wondered what it looked like before when her mother worked on it. She hoped to see a sign of her mothers work. She hoped that the people stuck here would still be ok when they arrived. She kept her chin up and her serious face on. The optimistic realist she is, hoping for the best but preparing for the not so best.

As the door opened while Leona and Lisa were climbing out Gray reached over and started to gently shake the sleeping Graham.  "Hey. we're here." Once it looked like Graham was waking up Gray also removed himself from the vehicle. unlike Leona and Lisa Gray seemed to be relatively unaffected by the long ride, the only sign that it was causing any grief was him rolling a shoulder.

"...mmh? Wha--?" Graham mumbled, feeling someone shake him awake. Cracking one eye open, he shuffled a little to indicate he was awake, before wincing as he started moving his limbs, all of which were stiff from the cramped conditions. Thanks to that, he managed to completely miss what Professor Evermore had said. "Are we walking now?" he asked, his voice still slurred from his slumber.

(more of a bump than anything else)

"Yeah. we're walking the rest of the way. Try to wake up quickly if you don't want the professor to whack you" Gray gave Graham a smirk and a nervous glance back in the hopes he hadn't been heard. (and rejoin previous post of getting out of the vehicle)

(Sorry! Got caught up in other things, and admittedly I have the beginning and end of this figured out a good deal better than the middle.)

Without a word, Crystal gestured that the team follow her and got on the move. Though she moved quietly and gracefully, it seemed Crystal wasn't taking her own advice about staying on guard. Her eyes were fixated on a single point ahead, and the speed at which she dashed toward it was difficult to keep up with. Lissa wanted to say something, but kept her mouth shut for fear of being punished again. After a while, the strenuous jog caught up with her and she fell, tripped up by an old pole that caught her leg. "Owwwww..." she blurted, forgetting about her fear of getting in trouble. "Hey Lee, help me up?" She rolled over onto her back, extending a hand for assistance.

The last thing Graham expected now was a pace so blisteringly fast that it seemed more like endurance training, and to his sandalled feet it was the equivalent of walking barefoot on hot coals. At least, that's what it felt like to him. So when Lissa tripped, he wordlessly thanked her for an excuse to stop, and massaged his sore feet. "The way she's walking, you'd think she was running from imminent death or something." he commented, keeping his voice low to avoid a rebuking from the professor.

Leona skidded to a stop from her half run, she had been doing behind the professor and quickly helped up Lissa. "Are you ok?" She asked in a hushed voice as she gave her leg a once over. Then she heard Graham and looked to him, "Well we are saving people from death so we do need to hurry."

At the start of the trip Gray felt he had no issues keeping up with the professor and could even go a little bit faster.  As the trip continued however that mindset wound up changing as his stamina or lack thereof and disregard for maintaining it lead to him winding up the furthest behind and so out of breath he couldn't even respond to his teammate's banter. He had long ago resolved to focus on breathing as he put one foot in front of the other so as he simply ran past his teammates in an attempt to catch up with Evermore the only real sign of his struggles were how behind he had fallen and the sweat that was now covering him.

"Yeah, I'm okay..." Lissa winced as she stood up. Initially, she started checking herself over for injuries but froze completely upon hearing a growl behind and to her right. Just out of the corner of her eye she spotted the creature that had been roused by the commotion, but even before she could identify it as a beowolf it had already been run through by one of Crystal's shimmering clones. Out of the frying pan, into the fire... was all Lissa could think as her clearly cross professor approached her.

"Are you unhurt?" Crystal asked, no hint of concern in her hushed voice. Lissa nodded slightly. "Good. We can't afford to slow down any more at this point, so I expect you all to follow close behind me. Beowolves are rarely found alone; if we have to fight through the rest of the pack, we will. Understood?" The look on Crystal's face convinced Lissa that if she made another mistake, she would be left behind. She nodded vigorously.

As Lissa was checking herself over for injuries, Leona heard the growl too. Leona had a moment of hesitation before she clumsily tried to lock her dust crystals in place in her gloves. Her head was down but she could hear it run. As she looked up, with only her fire crystal locked in place, she saw the beowolf run through Crystal.

As Lissa was getting scolded by Crystal, Leona locked the other crystal in place, an earth one, then silently signaled to Grahm and Grey... something? Was it either stay on guard or help me fight maybe a mixture of the two. She was still getting used to the hand signals she was learning. Anyways, she started to sneak up on the grim and she was readying for a fight.

Placing his left hand softly on the supple leather handle of his blade, Graham's face mask soundlessly clicked into place in front of his mouth and nose, showing only his eyes which now gleamed with awareness of his surroundings. His headphones were starting to play a new song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af6JRDhNBiw), one that perfectly set the mood for the conflict to come. Sliding into a battle crouch, he waited patiently for the remainder of his team to gear up. Here we go...let's dance, bastards.

"I was going to attempt to avoid combat, but since you're all so eager..." Crystal gathered her clones and armed them all. "We fight on the move! Each of you has a clone assigned to protect you, so keep your eyes forward and your legs moving!"

Lissa stood firm, determined not to make a fool of herself any more. She dashed towards the nearest group of Grimm, hurling both pieces of Whirlwince into them to initiate combat. The blades sliced two of the beowolves, mortally wounding them. As soon as the twin scythes came back to her, Lissa caught them heavily and used their momentum to get herself spinning, activating her semblance and brutally ripping through the bodies of the two Grimm she had just slashed. The peppy girl couldn't help but smile, which may have come off as rather psychotic. It just so happened that "fighting on the move" was her specialty.

The team was surrounded on all sides by beowolves of varying levels of awareness, though it was clear that all of them were beginning to realize what was going on. In particular, the Grimm around Lissa (with Crystal close by) were enraged and causing a commotion, rapidly focusing their sights on the rest of the team. Few dared challenge Lissa while she was still spinning, but if she couldn't keep the momentum going she would be in serious trouble. Meanwhile, a group of four beowolves clambered over the rubble behind and to the left of Leona, running at frightening speeds as they made to blindside her. The clearest path to travel was naturally the path Lissa was busy clearing, though anything running that way would have to be careful of the glittery trail of frictionless ground. I did explain how my semblance works to them, right...? Lissa worried suddenly.

"WATCH OUT!" Gray called to Leona as the Beowolve's made for her. He fired his loaded arrow straight at the most central of the four hoping to take out more than one with the blast.

Graham couldn't believe it. He got to blow off steam and had a clone from the professor to cover his ass. How often was it that one could let loose and not have to worry about his backside being attacked by some unwelcome entity? Calling up his semblance he targeted the nearest Beowolf, causing both to glow red in his and the Grimm's eyes, then waiting for it to come closer before drawing his blade and neatly slicing a horizontal line across its waist where it was thinnest, felling the Beowolf and returning the blade to its sheath. Hell, that was easy.

Leona heard Gray call to her. She took her eyes off the grim that she was going to sneak up on, and saw the four Beowolves cresting the rubble. One in the middle was shot by Grey. Leona didn't know how many were caught in the blast though because she quickly did a sweeping motion with her arm with her earth crystal gloved hand and made a spire of rock to hide behind. She then pulled one of her pistols out for extra protection, she readys to shoot at whichever Beowolves survive the blast.
Title: Re: An Off-the-Record Request [LLGD Initiation]
Post by: Flooberoid on May 29, 2018, 02:11:42 PM
The blast from Gray's arrow cleanly slew the beowolf it hit directly and left the others dazed, unable to finish their assault. While Graham was easily able to slaughter the Grimm he targeted, this didn't even serve as a warning for the rest of the pack, too savage to show any fear. The ruins of Mountain Glenn were infested, and for every target the team destroyed, two more would take their place. "The more time you waste, the more danger you invite! Finish whatever targets pose a threat and find a way forward!" Crystal shouted instructions to her students as if to challenge Leona's leadership, forcing her to step up.

As Lissa's wild twirl started to lose momentum, she quickly hooked her blades together and deactivated her semblance, rooting herself in place while spinning the giant double scythe in defense. "This way!" She yelled, wondering if Graham could even hear her with those headphones on. "It's pretty clear up ahead, we can put the pack behind us!" Lissa looked down at her feet and gasped. "Oh! But don't step on my trail, okay??" She added frantically.

With the clone of Crystal covering her rear, Lissa's defense was impenetrable. The few that tried to approach from the front lost parts of their arms to the violent whirlwind of scythes. Send a million! They still won't stop my Whirlwince! Lissa thought to herself mere moments before her Whirlwince was stopped. While the fodder indeed couldn't get through the blades even with their entire bodies, one fearsome claw stopped them dead in their tracks. Hearing a vicious snarl, Lissa looked up and came face-to-face with the Alpha of the Beowolf pack.

Leona scowled. She didn't like that this teacher just wouldn't let them fight it out. But she was right about how for every target they killed two more targets would take their place. Leona needed a plan. Hearing the explosion behind her and not seeing any beowolves jump out from the sides of the stone pillar she made,  she knew that her area was safe. She quickly scanned the area. Graham's area, clear. Gray's area, clear. Lissa's area, Alpha wolf.

"Ok so everyone needs to help Lissa get out of there and then we can loop around to the destination where the nomads are," Leona yelled. "Lissa, keep you semblance active so we can get there faster. Graham, Gray, get ready to slide and shoot. We need to distract it enough for Lissa to get out of there and I'll give it the fire tornado to the face and we can get out of there."

The amount of noise, both from yelling and explosions and the growls of the oncoming horde, was more than sufficient to block out any music from Graham's headphones, causing him to remove them in frustration. That did allow him to listen to their team leader's orders, but at the sound of the snarl those words meant nothing anymore.

"That," Graham began, a maniacal grin emerging on his face at the sight of a adversary, "is MINE!" Completely ignoring both the leader and the teacher's instructions, he took two large bounds forward before leaping straight at the Alpha Beowolf, sword held above his head in both hands in preparation for one heavy vertical swing. Before impact, he triggered another use of his semblance, aiming to kill the Alpha in one slice.

Gray gave a nod at the order. However instead of avoiding Lissa's semblance trail Gray leaped into it sliding along the ground with an arrow drawn. Ready to fire if he got a clear shot.
