Title: Chasing Shadows [Open]
Post by: Viventium Umbra on September 21, 2016, 12:04:44 AM
Azrail raced across the rooftops of Vale in the orange light of sunset. The streets had been far too crowded thanks to the Vytal Festival, so he was taking his own brand of shortcut. Two hours ago he had felt its scream, whatever it was, and it had come from Vale. Azrail had been searching the entire city since then, but everything seemed normal. Far too normal. The lightning reaper stopped on the crumbling roof of a defunct warehouse and sat down with his legs crossed and eyes closed. He could almost feel the light shift from a tired orange to an angry red. Blood had been spilled, he could feel it in the air. Suddenly the sound of sirens snapped Azrail out of his concentration. They were police sirens, and he could see lights as well. The cloaked figure rose, casting a long shadow over the ruined building he stood atop before dashing off towards the sound.

It was hard to keep up with police cruisers at top speed, but Azrail was using his weapon to great effect as he swung through the city. He finally caught up after a few minutes, but to his dismay, it had happened again. There was caution tape plastered over every conceivable surface and police officers swarming the entrance to a dark alley. Azrail stopped a few buildings away from the area in question and dropped prone on the roof of a rotting apartment complex. He knew if he got any closer, they would see him and force him to leave. "Come on, what are you hiding?" Azrail muttered as he waited.

Wandering through the crowds, trying to find his way... anywhere in this new and bustling place, Martin noticed an area where there were fewer people. "Looks like a great place to go and get my bearings," he muttered as he pulled out a bright and colorful "Welcome to Vale!" pamphlet/map. But as he got closer to the area, he noticed it wasn't as quiet as he had thought, in fact it was right next to a swarm of police officers and caution tape. "Well this didn't work out too well, did it, Martin?" he asked himself under his breath, as he looked around for an actually quiet place.

One of the officers began to approach him, but before the officer was in earshot, Martin had clambered up to the rooftops - where he spotted another person. He began to call out, but noticed that the other person seemed to be exercising stealth, so he shut himself up and instead leaped - nearly falling, but just managing to catch himself - across to the rooftop the other person was perched on. "Hey," he whispered. "See what happened?"

Azrail was a bit annoyed that this newcomer had almost drawn the attention of the officers down on the street, but was glad he had recognized the need for stealth. "I wish," Azrail replied curtly and quickly. "First, names. I'm Azrail," he added without so much as turning his head.

Ophelia had been standing in line at a roadside dango stand wearing a white shirt, a black zipper hoodie, a pair of blue jeans, and black and white sneakers when her eyes managed to catch a glimpse of something streaking across the rooftops. Deciding to follow to see what was up, she sighed at having to leave her spot in line and headed into an abandoned alley. Reaching into her inside pocket, she pulled out her tactical visor and put it on before wall-jumping up and climbing onto the roof. Then, pursuing the figure, whom she saw was humanoid silently from behind until he stopped and lay still, she also saw that another boy joined him. Dropping down a hole in the roof and landing silently onto the weakened floor without so much as a creak, Ophelia continued to track them with thermal vision while acknowledging the police cars at the site.

"Martin," he replied. "From Shade. I was in town for the festival, but this seems a sight more interesting."

Ophelia continued to observe from within the building.

Griz had been taking a nap when the meetings were happening. The sun on this perfect day was practically lullybying him to sleep. That was until his highly tuned senses felt a Disturbence in the foooorce.Either that or the girl jumping up a building like a goddamn kangaroo on steroids. too curious to stop himself Griz walked into the building like a normal person using his speed to get upstairs completely unnoticed. Silencing his footfalls he tries approaching Orphelia from behind getting right next to her ear before whispering "Whatcha looking at?". Yes this could ONLY yeild positive results.

Martin thought he felt eyes on him, but decided it must be his imagination. So what's the story? You some kind of... amateur detective or something? Or just a crime-scene fetishist?" He almost regretted that last part, second-guessing his decision to say anything in the first place, but let it slide as part of his 'cool funny dude' image.

Already sensing Griz from behind, Ophelia just whispered, "Shhh..." before continuing to observe. "Damn. I won't get to see what they're up to with the police here." Walking to a window on another side of the building, she dropped down to the floor and performed a silent roll, hiding behind the wall of a building and counting the heat signatures, including everybody in the surrounding buildings. Holding her hand up to a door of the building, she quietly snapped her fingers, sending a jolt of static electricity through the lock before pushing up and opening the door.

Griz not that surprised that she could sense him watched her resume her acrobatics. Hmmm police stuff eh? This could be cool!. Following her drop to the second floor he landed lightly on his feet and watched her freeze for a moment. He tried to see what she was looking at but to no avail. Sweat dropping a bit he saw her electrocute the lock on the door. "You could have you know...just checked if it was open." smiling a bit to himself he watched her open the door.

"I'm just a kid who got too involved in something that I shouldn't have. Now I've got to finish what I started, and that means finding out what the hell's happening around here," Azrail replied coldly. "You really shouldn't be here. You came from Vacuo for a tournament, not this."  Suddenly his body stiffened and he whispered, "Don't look now, but I think we're being watched. We need to get off the rooftops." Azrail shifted into a crouch and then fired a spear/chain into the roof beside him. He then dropped off the side of the building and swung into the top floor window just below where he had been crouching. He retracted his spear/chain as soon as his feet made contact with the floor, and he was immediately face-to-face with a white-haired woman wearing a strange pair of goggles.

Azrail took a single step towards the window, intending to make a break for it, when a loud boom echoed out from the direction of the police site and froze Azrail. He was caught in a trap where he couldn't leave for fear of missing something important and couldn't stay for fear of the woman and the ram faunus standing behind her. He didn't get much time to assess the situation very well, however, because the boom was immediately followed by a low rumbling sound that was rapidly approaching their position from the direction of the police forces.

"Wai--" Martin cut himself off, realizing he was making more noise than Azrail's stealthiness seemed to insist upon. He continued, whispering, "Wait up!" Taking the sword from his back, he swung it downward, while flicking the switch causing it to extend into polearm form, which he used to vault after the strange shady fellow. On landing, aiming low so as to follow the other in through the window, he got the distinct feeling that he'd landed in the middle of something...

Looking around, Martin spotted the very eyes he'd felt on him for the past little while. Collapsing Gradus Bellum back into its standard broadsword form and slinging it back on his back, he smiled sheepishly (sorry, Griz) at the new 'friends'. "Ah... Heh-heh-heh... hi?"

((EDIT: Fixed tense, switched to present-tense by mistake at the start and shifted back to past-tense midway, now it's all past-tense as intended))

Sandy had been wandering through Vale enjoying a pleasant day when he stumbled across an awful lot of police tape that was clearly a crime scene. Not wanting to actually violate the boundary but far too curious what was going on Sandy activated his semblance to have a look and while he did notice the corpse he was more interested in the people he saw in a building nearby.  spying on a crime scene eh. This could be interesting.

Firing a grappling hook at the base of the window Sandy pulled himself to it and then used the momentum to flip up and through the window. He had intended to land behind them but had misjudged his momentum and instead was firing a kick at Azrail's head.

In an instant, Ophelia was between Azrail and Sandy, blocking the kick with the back of her hand. "Alright, everybody calm down. What are you all doing here?" Hearing the rumbling sound, the lens on Ophelia's visor rotated, switching to x-ray vision as she turned to see whatever was happening.

Martin moved to warn Azrail, but the observer had moved (not so much an observer now as an active participant, he supposed) to intercept the incoming kick. When she spoke, Martin turned and locked eyes with... her visor. He was about to answer, when he, too, noted the rumbling. His hand went instinctively to Gradus Bellum's hilt, as he dropped into a cautious stance. "I get the feeling we're all in the middle of something we may not want to be..."

Sandy felt someone appear and block his unintentional kick and breathed a sigh of relief before he realised he was halfway out the window. Kicking off of the conveniently placed hand using his aura to drive himself further though probably really hurting the hand his main goal was to fire himself completely out of the window. Once he had propelled himself outside he quickly backflipped before re-grappling the building this time hitting the ceiling above everyone's heads and reeling in eventually winding up hanging upside down from it again.

"Impressive," Ophelia said, still looking at whatever was coming before putting her hand down, which was smoking but otherwise perfectly fine. "The names Abigail Hunter by the way. Second year at Beacon, a pleasure. And I suspect that among you lot, possibly all of you, are also students."

"Martin Roja," Martin replied, rolling the 'r' on his last name slightly. "From Shade, in town for the Vytal festival, but..." He smirked, but the perceptive would be able to see the nervousness behind it. "Found myself in a bit of hot water. Thought I'd be used to the heat, coming from Vacuo and all, but this is a bit more than I anticipated."

Griz finally rendezvousing with the others after taking the stairs...like a normal human caught the womans name...something was off. That women was definitely more then she seemed. High Tech equipment, sensing his presence, and potentially a fake-name? He had no basis for that last one just call it a hunch. He heard them chat for a while in place and sized them all up silently. He noted to stay away from Abigail, his fighting experience honed his instincts to be quite sharp when it comes to strength.  Welcome to Vytl festival Martin! I hope you enjoy your stay and I can promise you that THIS doesn't happen everyday." Griz finished while smiling. Of course he was lying, mysterious and dangerous events happened all the time around BEACON but soothing a kids nerves never hurt. Hiding his hands in his oversized jacket Griz silently equipped his gauntlets. Whatever went boom earlier was definitely dangerous but it was that Abigail that worried him the most. Even so he wasn't too worried...just enough to keep his guard up.
"The names Griz and you won't see me at the tournament this year but you might see me just sleeping around or playing music."

"Music, huh? You in some kind of band or something?" Martin assessed the assembled individuals to the best of his first-year, limited-field-experience abilities. A shadow, a mystery, a possible musician, and an odd duck, plus Martin himself. Quite the motley crew. "I'll be on the lookout. Always cool to take in the local flavor."

Azrail could sense the kick before Ophelia had moved, and had combat rolled out of the way. Then he backed away from the crowd that had gathered. Not only was he feeling overwhelmed, but this wasn't the right time or place for a friendly meeting. He could feel its approach, and for the first time in a long while he felt fear. Fear not for his own life, but for the others that had joined him. As far as he could tell, none of them had even reached their third year of education, and if any of them died here, it would be his fault.

"Everyone out! GET OUT OF THE BUILDING NOW!" Azrail yelled as loud as he could and vaulted out the window and down into the alleyway that separated the apartment complex from the next building down the line. He planned to make his stand there, to buy some time so that the others could get away.

Meanwhile, Ophelia could see two distinct heat signatures. The rumbling sound seemed to increase as the first signature, vaguely humanoid but blurred, approached at high speed. The problem was that this signature was running through a whole row of defunct buildings. It was passing through what should have been stone and brick walls as if they were made of paper, and it was on a collision course with Azrail. The second signature was a huge wall of heat that didn't give off any particular shape and was moving after the first one, albeit much slower.

"Chill, man, what's..." And then... Martin felt it. More through his Huntsman's (in training) instincts than through any actual knowledge, he felt something coming. His hand stayed on Gradus Bellum's hilt, as his posture dropped from 'cautious' to full-on 'go time'. "Not sure we have time to get out, man," he quipped, "But maybe we should get ready?"

"Dude, no." Grabbing Martin, Ophelia leaped out of the window Sandy had come in from and jumped off the opposite wall onto the roof, dropping him. Immediately spotting what Azrail was doing she back-flipped off, performing a corkscrew before landing and tackling him out of the way. "I'll hold it off. Back me up or run." Standing up with her hands in her jacket pockets, she turned to face the humanoid shape coming her way.

(Yes, I god-modded a little, but it was to save a life, as I know what's coming. PM me if you're not okay with it.)

(Totally cool with it, though young adventure-starved Martin himself may not be.)

It all happened too quick for Martin to react, by the time he knew what was happening he was out of the building. Whatever the quiet equivalent of a primal scream is passed through his lips, followed by a frustrated, disappointed sigh. This was meant to be a distraction, an excuse to be away from the crowds, and maybe just a bit of an exciting adventure, but now... he was left holding the hilt of his weapon with no threat in range. "Welcome to Vale, Roja," he muttered under his breath.

Sandy had been letting everyone talk and suddenly everyone bailed and he stood there bewildered until his own sixth sense registered what was coming. Unsure what it was Sandy threw an electric rave bomb in the direction it would be coming from praying it had something metallic before using his grappling hooks to fly around to Azrail and Ophelia.  "ok. What the hell is going on?"

Griz smiled wiedly as he felt the nightmarish presence drew near. Learning next to Orphelia, Griz drew his gauntlets to back up whatever plan she had in mind. Concentrating for a split second Griz let loose his control on his aura dipping into his extensive reserves. His aura started to become visual around him fizzing like a shaken coke bottle. He had 200% aura to work with, looks like all those naps were paying off. "Ok, I trust you Abigail I'm ready to give you assistance. I may be a first year but I'm a tournament champion so don't think il drag you down!"  Smiling even wider this time he spoke to Azrail "I do freestyle jazz sometimes you should come check it out when you can!"
Directing his full attention towards the humanoid figure he stood strong next to Orphelia. He had gone toe to toe with some fierce fighters before. Now he would do what he does best, wait.

"Welcome to Vale indeed. Don't sound disappointed, you're not missing anything good," a new voice spoke from just behind Martin. "She meant well, putting you on the roof, but I think we're still a bit too close," Drevin spoke again.

Panic started rising in Azrail's throat. None of them knew what was coming, and he didn't want anyone else to need to face whatever it was. It was his job, and no one else's, so he leaped to his feet, stood in front of Abigail, his back to the rumbling, and said, "No, you don't understand! You need to get out of here! I can't have anyone getting hurt because of me! Don't try to be h-" Azrail didn't finish his sentence.

The brick wall behind Azrail exploded as a whirring mass of obsidian-black edges shredded through it, and the humanoid mass continued barreling forwards. Its head connected with Azrail's lower back, and the sheer force of the impact lifted the third year up. Azrail felt a thousand lacerations crisscross his entire back in a fraction of a second as the thing ran underneath him, its edges shredding through Azrail's cloak and even his carbon fiber armor. The real problem was when its shoulders passed under the backs of his legs, as Azrail felt an almost simultaneous twang and subsequent pain as both of his Achilles Tendons were severed. He hit the ground hard and a pool of blood began seeping out from countless injuries.

The thing continued on through the wall of the abandoned apartment building and destroyed a good portion of the inside as it ground to a halt and turned back to see what it had run into, the black blades stopping as it did.  It had completely ignored Sandy's bomb, which had been destroyed upon making contact with the creature done a lot of damage to an already unstable structure. The building creaked and swayed precariously, and Drevin was forced to crouch down just to retain his balance. The thing peered out at the world through lifeless orange/red specks, its eyes hiding in the mass of death, and snarled at the others who had gathered.

It was at this moment that Brond, with his semblance burning up at tier 3 approached the alleyway with the students and immediately put out his fire. It was obvious he couldn't use it so close to his allies. Then Brond saw Azrail and his happiness shattered in an unhealthy way. He would have let loose; he would have ended the wretched creature then and there, but he couldn't. He couldn't use his semblance. The giant bear faunus stood, angry and sad all at once, in front of the destroyed wall leading into the alley. He stared stared the thing down with a deep-set hatred in his dark red eyes, and the thing stared right back.

Almost simultaneously, three cop cars pulled up in a semicircle around the building and law enforcement officers leaned out the windows with their guns trained on the thing in the building.

"What the hell!? I thought this street was uninhabited!" one yelled.

"Well shit, it's supposed to be!" another answered.

Azrail could sense the innate dilemma in the situation, but he couldn't say anything; the pain was too overwhelming. But all the while a single passage floated through his mind. “When you surround an army, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard." Leave an outlet. Let it escape. Don't corner it, a cornered animal only fights harder.

Everything happened so quickly and in sequence that the whole thing only took a few seconds, but in the moment, those few seconds felt like an eternity.

Martin barely had time to register (and nearly jump out of his skin from) the new voice, before he saw the... whatever-it-was... barreling through the building. Practiced reflexes  fired, and before the building buckled he leaped to a nearby rooftop. Adrenaline flowing, every fiber in his being telling him to attack or run, his legs opted for the latter option. Running from rooftop to rooftop, until he reached the edge of the abandoned area and dropped to the streets once more, only to wander into a little shop near the local Huntsman academy (http://rwby-rpg.rwbyfanon.com/index.php/topic,302.0.html)...

"I SAID BACK ME UP! NOT JUMP IN FRONT OF THE DAMN THING!" Ophelia yelled out after dodging out of the way, wincing at the sight of Azrail. Adapting an authoritative but calm tone, she pressed a button over her ear and started calling a few people, "Stella! Dispatch immediate first aid to my location, now! Victim has sustained heavy trauma! Camellia! Deploy Canisters to my location, half millimeter proximity warheads. Garrett! If you value the lives of your men, call them off, this situation is too much for Vale police to handle. The rest of you, get out of here!" Her visor folded upwards, compacting into a headband as she stepped in front of Brond, staring down the creature with even higher intensity than itself and said, "So, this is the Chupacabra of Vale." as multiple sonic booms were heard overhead and three rectangular devices flew, attaching to the stable parts of what was left over from the building behind them. Opening their doors, each of them revealed two rows of six missiles, twelve in total and 36 overall while acquiring the creature's heat signature (Azrail has seen their design before). Right afterwards, another sonic boom was heard and a black airship arrived, hovering over them. Shooting a few disc-like drones off, they quickly descended around Azrail. One latched onto his neck with a leech-like mechanism, scanning for any allergies before injecting in painkillers. A few surrounded him, activating Gravity dust and began levitating him upwards and into a set of doors that opened under the ship while simultaneously applying pressure to his wounds. Another drone was deployed from the ship, this one hovering in the air above Ophelia with a camera streaming footage back to Prometheus, as Asako scanned its body structure. Meanwhile, the radios of the police had sounded and they left the area to go ward off curious civilians.

Dodging out of the way Griz stood beside Orphelia and Brond. he saw the airship come down and Azrail get medical attention. Ok so that is definatly not a first year and if my memory serves me right that is a hunter by the name of...Brond? This is going to be harder than I thought. Glancing around to survey the destruction he saw martin disappear, getting out of the area. Griz put his hand on Brond's shoulder and said "Don't worry your friend is going to be alright, lets just make sure we don't have any more casualties. My aura gives me a nice damage cushion with my mastery over it so don't worry about me getting caught in crossfire." taking a breath Griz looked at Orphelia "You seem to know what is going on. Do you know what that thing is and any weaknesses? I think you said...Chupacabra?" Griz for the first time in a while was fully awake. He wasn't slacking at all being at full attention to his surroundings. That's when he caught the new appearance of Devin on the roof. Great more unknown variables is definatly not what we need right now. He just hoped that they all knew what they were getting into when they got into the area. He hoped he did too.

Sandy barely managed to get out of the way of the mass of blades that smashed through them but even so a smirk crossed his face as a thought entered his mind.  Its mostly metal. With that thought in his head Sandy lobbed an electric Rave Bomb directly at the creature hoping that there was something organic to get hurt by the electricity that would start flowing or that he could overload it if it was mechanical.

As events unfolded a battered figure stumbled through the ruined buildings. The edges of his clothes were clearly singed and he had a scowl on his face.  "damn that hurt. Please tell me you kept track of that thing."  Cerulean said noticeably annoyed.

As Azrail was lifted up, he looked back, trying to see what was happening. Fancy that, she's friends with Camelia too," Azrail thought. He would have liked to see more of the fight, but even with medication the pain was too much. Azrail blacked out before he even reached the ship.

Drevin noted Martin's decision and muttered, "Good choice." He then felt a tension in the air, and decided it was a terrible idea to stay where he was. He took a bit of a running start and then fired off his jetpack, propelling him all the way across the street to a much safer place where he continued to watch.

Brond turned his head and replied, "Well I couldn't just let it rip my face off. I told the police I didn't think it was a good idea when they contacted me, but they're desperately trying to stop this thing and they wouldn't take no for an answer. I did keep track of it though... sorta." He then motioned with his eyes to the scene that was unfolding in front of them.

From what Asako's drone could tell, it was either human or faunus based on the skeletal configuration, but any information on identity was concealed by the mass of shiny-black edges covering its body, and a DNA sample was completely out of the question. Meanwhile, as Stella and the thing stared at each other, she could see beyond the lifelessness. In its eyes was fear. Primal, inhuman fear, but fear nonetheless. The fear lessened with the departure of the police cars, but returned in full force with the arrival of the missile canisters. The fear held a sort of tenuous balance, and she could tell that it didn't know if it should fight or flee. Then the electric bomb hit it.

Sandy's electric Rave Bomb was the turning point. It didn't actually damage the thing in the slightest, as the electricity could find no conductive element in the mass of edges and fizzled, but the reaction it had was immediate. There was no question now, it was provoked, and it would fight. The blades that covered its body returned to their frenzied shifting, and it dove headfirst into the ground. Instead of smashing its face into hard concrete, however, it ripped right through the ground and disappeared into a tunnel of its own creation. In a matter of seconds, its heat signature became completely moot thanks to a good four feet of rock. Its sound, too was gone, ad the silence it left gave off an air of danger. Like a vacuum waiting to be filled.

In the airship above, after scanning Azrail's body, a few robotic arms attached to the inner walls began their work, taking off the remnants of his cloak and armor, cleaning, disinfecting, supplying air, and sewing him back together with absorbable thread as the drones rotated to keep him within the arms' range of movement.

Back on the ground, as soon as the creature dove downwards, Ophelia activated her visor and walked up to the newly created hole, then crouched down and peered into it. Sighing, she stood back up. "Camellia."

From behind, one of the missiles popped out as the warhead transformed, what was going to be the explosives before being turned into more vectored propulsion systems. Then it was fired out and went down the hole, the dud travelling through the winding tunnels at a steady pace.

The airship containing Azrail descended as she turned back to Brond. "We need to have some words."

Title: Re: Chasing Shadows [Open]

Griz took a different stance and started fiddling with his gauntlets while doing some math in his head. So my gauntlets with kinetic dust can punch through solid metal and rock creating a shockwave that acts much like an earthquake on impact...If i were to amplify that effect by using my aura to boost my strength. How much aura would I need to use to blast that fucker out of the ground yet not hurt everybody and the surrounding area...I hate math.. After adjusting his gauntlets to the right setting (or what he thought would be enough to blast through approximately 5 feet of stone) Griz adopted a fighting stance and let out a deep breath concentrating so that he would lose the least amount of aura for the strike. So I never decided how much aura to use for the punch...ow my head hurts I really should do math while modeling aura at the same time.. Looking over he saw Ophelia moving over to Brond and slightly sweat dropped. "Hey guys as much as I appreciate the need for explanation, reunion, or what ever you guys are about to talk about we kinda have an issue here. You know a people killing, house destroying, and generally fuck everything up issue. I can get it out of the ground or us on to it's level but kinda need 100% participation if that thing was able to take out that poor guys in one hit.". Truth be told even though he  felt severely out classed Griz was calm. This wasn't anything the improved ground couldn't handle.

Sandy's eyes widened as his electricity did nothing.  "dammit. How the hell did that not work? Is he completely metal?" As the thing dived underground Sandy decided he was going to get some distance and grappled the building above and hung up there.  "ok. I'll see how it likes ice. I bet i could freeze some of it's joints.

Cerulean let out a sigh.  "I know. Still that really hurt. Just my luck that i come back to Vale and there is some sort of blade monster running around."

"I know, it's my fault. I had no idea what I was dealing with," Brond conceded to both Ophelia and Cerulian. "Now I've gotten two people injured and that thing's still on the loose." Brond's face was contorted in sorrow, but he also looked tired. This new life as a huntsman was wearing on him in a way that he had never experienced as a student. Brond then replied to Griz, "I'm aware that there's a problem but I think it's gone for now, so I think we should all- hey! Watch out!"

Brond's warning came too late though, because by the time he had realized what was happening, the earth beneath Griz's feet was churning like frothy water. Occasionally a black edge could be seen moving through the shifting earth, but it was almost as if the thing was using a thin layer of moving rock as a shield. Two arms covered in the whirling black edges reached up from the ground to try and grab Griz's legs, the blades angled such that if they made contact, it would drag him down into the ground.

Seconds...that's how much time Griz had to work with. It had been mere moments before Bronds warning that he felt it. The tremors in the ground as that monster tore through the soil like water. He felt the tremors stop for a split second before terrible bladed arms came up at him. Griz was used to working with seconds. They were the difference between dying and living, winning and losing. Unfortunately this wasn't a fight he intended to lose. He had a few options. He had plenty of aura left to dodge out of the way but then it might get air born and have a higher advantage. Right now it might have a field and a surprise advantage but Griz had leverage. That was the only thing he needed.

Griz built up his aura visibly around his being. Condensing and forming it into an ethral armour. He gauntlets already preset with dust hummed as he made his move. Diving  between the two outstretched arms Griz punched the area inbetween. If his punch connected with anything a gigantic shock wave would decimate the street like an earthquake. Resulting in a lot of possible collateral with buildings. The blades whirled and screamed as they passed by inches from Griz's face. If this didn't hurt or scare the beast away then his aura would protect him from being shredded or hurt...too much.Where there are arms there is a head...if my calculations are right that this should blast this whole block to peices. If it doesn't well...my aura shield will hold.". It was make it or break it and Griz was shooting for break it...and everything around it.

In an instant, Ophelia had disappeared, dashing towards Griz at high speeds, kicking him back before doing a back handspring. "Are you an idiot? You'll only anger it, and that is something we do not want. Especially since there are a lot people from other kingdoms here. Don't do anything that will bring unease to the masses."

Easily rebounding after the kick Griz used his speed to make his way back to Orphelia.  Griz levelled a stare at her."Well MAYBE if someone told me anything about what Were dealing with here than I wouldn't need to go so far. I have no idea what it can or cannot take. I would really appreciate even the smallest idea right now before someone gets dragged down to wherever that thing.". Taking a breath Griz calmed down his nerves to their relatively normal state."Look thanks for kicking me out of the way but knowing I can't damage it is a pretty crucial peice of information. Ok upon revision on what he was about to do yes Griz agreed it was reckless but he didn't really know how to make a smart and informed decision on a beast he knew nothing about. For now...he'd focus on dodging.  He really hoped that this girl knew what she was doing because he sure didn't.

(Sorry for breaking order just felt like Griz would've spoken first after being kicked)

Ophelia continued to look at the ground at the heat signature. "I've got a few contacts in the Vale Bureau of Intelligence. They've been covering this up for quite a while now."

Cerulean looked at Sandy, Ophelia and Griz.  "it may be worth you three getting out of here and letting the huntsmen take care of this one. This is way out of your league."  as he said this Cerulean decided to draw Takif in it's shotel form.  Is there anywhere we can hit it to wound it at all or are we just trying to contain it?"

The thing's arms grasped at air before returning back to the ground empty. The churning area of earth collapsed downwards as the thing burrowed elsewhere, and left a ditch of pulverized rock behind. Brond began jogging towards the group, but before he could reach them, the thing burst from the ground directly under Cerulean, attempting to drag him underground as it had with Griz.

Watching the thermal signature moving under them, Ophelia immediately closed the distance in a blink of an eye and tackled Cerulean out of the way.

With the drone watching the whole time, another airship had arrived and, opening its ramp, dropped a freshly dead pig, still reeking strongly of blood. Sitting in one of the seats, Stella checked her scroll, linked to a tracker embedded into the pig, about the size of a 1 yen coin.

Cerulean felt the ground rumbling beneath him and created a clone in his place before hastily sidestepping out of where he assumed the creature was about to attack. He the. Saw Ophelia moving to tackle the clone likely assuming it was him.  "WAIT. DON'T!"

Griz couldn't help but laugh a little at the irony of the situation. There was that "2nd" year about to save somebody's life...again. Perhaps if she kept going like this she would set a new record. Then Griz heard the shout..It was from Cerulean....but wasnt he? o shit. That's when it clicked, she was about to get dragged 10 feet under by that thing. Now Griz had a hunch that maybe he was right...maybe she was years beyond his level. The way she moved was not like a student. The way she carried herself was definitely not like a student. The equipment she had...ok he'd seen a lot of fancy equipment but he'd put his top dollar that the gear wasn't exactly freshman. Last time he went with a gut feeling it didn't really work out. However he had to make a decision.

In a blink of an eye Griz moved closer before stopping far enough away to not get tangled with her. He would put his faith in her. If shit went south then he would deal with it then. However he wasn't about to risk jumping into that thing's path again without a plan. Besides there were much more skilled people than him here maybe they had a better idea.

Unfortunately, sound didn't travel as fast and Ophelia connected with the clone. Right then, she felt something was wrong. This was confirmed as the clone exploded in a burst of glass, sending her flying backwards while her aura took the hit. Orienting herself in the air, she landed on her hands and pushed off, performing a back-flip to land right next to the the pigs carcass. Picking it up, she threw it with one hand towards the creature in the ground.

The thing, having lab her itself into the air, was also knocked back by the blast and landed in a feral hunch not unlike that of a beowolf. It snarled viciously, and when the pig came flying at it, it cut the carcass clean in half with a swipe of its arm. Then the scent of the animal caught its attention, and it backed up. Grabbing both halves, the thing hissed at its previous assailants before burrowing down, backwards, and presumably away with the pig in tow.

Brond, had had a hard time keeping track of what was happening, and had backed off when the thing had gone underground for a second time. Now he approached the rest of the group, Ophelia in particular, and said, "You seem to know an awful lot about this thing. Who are you, exactly?"

As her visor folded up into a hairband again, Ophelia sighed and held out her hand. "Abigail Hunter, Beacon second year and not-consultant to the Vale Department of Investigation."

Griz resisted from coughing and sputtering as she introduced herself. For all he knew she was a regular beacon student! Yeah...second year...suuuuure. Well whoever she is she definitely an enigma. Probably gonna keep my comments to myself to not hurt anybody...or myself. He smiled outwardly as he enjoyed the beautiful weather they were having. It was almost nice enough to forget about the hideous monster that apparently had a taste for pig.

A scowl dawned on Ceruleans face as he heard that woman from the bar continuing to lie to them.  "cut the crap. They're on your side so the least you can do is be honest with them."

"A rose by any other name," Ophelia said to Cerulean. "And if you would like to drop by Beacon sometime, I'm more than willing to share my schedule. An actual huntsman coming to visit me during class would certainly be something to look forward to."

As they conversed, the airship continued to hover above, Stella sitting inside listening in and wondering if Cerulean knew Ophelia.

Brond planted his face firmly in his palm and grunted before shaking his head and looking forlornly up at the ship with Azrail in it. "You need to get that kid to a hospital, ASAP," he rumbled at Ophelia, and then turned to face her. He was suspicious of her claim to being a 2nd year, especially after what Cerulian had said. "Look, I don't care about who you are anymore, I just want you guys to follow me. We're going to report back and then all of you except for Cerulian are going to take a special, mandatory class on keeping secrets," Brond grumbled and waved for them to follow him as he began lumbering back to the original cordoned-off police area.

Griz walked a round for a bit examining the holes left by the beast. What WAS that thing. He had never seen anything like it...there was a lot of things he hasn't seen. Walking up to Brond, Griz spoke softly "So that's it huh? We go home and pretend like what we saw didn't exist?"It wasn't in a mad or annoyed tone of voice. It had a tone that resonated more with understanding.

Cerulean scowled at Ophelia and decided he would say something.  "Does Alban know who you are? I'm sure he would find your true identity very interesting"  Cerulean said in a low tone as he passed by Ophelia to follow Brond. His face softened as he heard what Griz said.  "pretty much. This sort of thing is best left to fully fledged hunters and can you imagine the panic if word of this thing got out?"

Stella, having checked that the tracker was getting farther and farther away on the scroll, decided it was safe to exit her ship. Waving at the others, she tossed the scroll to Ophelia. "You're welcome.

"Thank you, Ms. Chartreuse. Ophelia checked it while saying, "Oh, my senior at the combat academy will be just fine. I suppose we don't want the hospital asking where he got those wounds from, do we now?" Then looking up at Cerulean she said, "Perhaps Headmaster Inverno does, perhaps he doesn't. What difference would it make? See, the thing is, I'm just here to deal with what you huntsmen or specialists cannot. That's all you need to know. And since we're on that topic," she tossed the scroll to him. "I guess this guy would be best left to you, Mr. Fully Fledged Hunter. It's supposed to be huntsman by the way. And if you find yourself incompetent at handling it, well, you know where to find me."

"No offense Ms. Abigail, but I don't trust you very much. It's clear you aren't who you say you are, but that's not my problem. Considering that, it goes without saying that I don't trust you with his life, so I suggest that you hand him over to us. It's our problem that he's injured, so we'll pay the medical bills, and we can pretty easily justify it as a training accident. Hell, anything could be justified as a training accident," Brond replied to Ophelia. "And let me guess, you put a tracker in the pig? As if they haven't tried that before. It just hides away somewhere that's too confined and dangerous to approach it in, and then when it's done eating it just leaves the tracker with the rest of the carcass and moves on." He then addressed Griz: "Well you don't get to go home right away. We've got to take you to the station where you'll agree not to tell anyone for the good of the public, but it's all got to be official, so just bear with me here." He continued to walk through the remains of walls on his way back.

"Stella."

"I own a few hospitals throughout Vale. I'll see what I can do." The airship holding Azrail turned in the air and flew off in the direction of a nearby hospital. Then turning to Brond, she said, "But let me guess, you guys haven't attempted using a Prometheus tracker. They're designed like parasites. Now all we need is for our hungry little friend to munch on Mr. Buta a bit, and the tracker will practically live inside its body. Now then, is there anything else you crazy people need? I've got a public unveiling at the Commercial District that I have to do for those medi-drones you just witnessed earlier."

"Well that'll be really useful actually! Even if we still can't kill the thing, we could probably prevent further casualties!" Brond said, genuinely surprised. "You wouldn't happen to have some semblance-negating weapon too?"

(I think the thread has died, but it was going to end soon anyway so it doesn't matter much. Long story short everyone gets taken back to the police station, and everyone gets a pretty generic "you will not share this information with anyone" talk before being allowed to leave.)

Later that day, somewhere in Vale.

Ophelia and Stella sat at the tea table in the marble gazebo overlooking the water, looking at the blonde girl in front of them.

"So, you wanted to see me?"

“I would like to report further progress towards my investigation on the Chupacabra.”

"Ah, the Chupacabra. A slippery adversary indeed. How goes it?"

“I encountered it in the city along with a few other huntsmen and students. No casualties, one was heavily injured but Stella ensures a full recovery.”

“We've also planted a tracker to it. Currently having Asako log the information. Also shared with other huntsmen searching for it. Perhaps a joint effort may be viable.”

"I see. And what of your cover, Shatterstorm?"

“Still intact.”

"That's good to hear." She got up and looked out towards the scenery. "Any way we can weaponize the Chupacabra?"

“Uncertain. It's either human or faunus. However, Asako is currently applying the pattern of its blades to Camellia's border defense balls. With some upgrades of course.”

"Most excellent indeed. Thank you, I want them put into effect as soon as possible."

“As you wish.”

"Now then, I believe you have a public unveiling to do. Dismissed. And best of luck to you. Your airship has been cleaned and refueled."

“Thank you, General. I will take my leave.” Stella finished her tea and set it down before walking away.

"And you. You did good, Shatterstorm. Thank you for keeping those people alive."

“It was my genuine pleasure, General.”

"Right, dismissed."

Nodding, Ophelia backed out of her seat and walked off.

A hologram appeared in front of Marigold with a man with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes wearing glasses. "Father."

The man chuckled. "I gotta say, you've grown. Have you noticed? They follow you of their own free will."

Marigold smiled. "Thanks dad."

"Now then, General. Order me to do something."

Laughing, Marigold jokingly said, "I want all the stables cleaned out in 10 minutes."

"Yes ma'am." He hung up.

"Wait no! I mean-" Marigold sighed. "I didn't even dismiss him..." She sat down again, pouring another cup of tea. It was certainly a nice day.
