Title: In Search Of A Casanova [COMPLETE][Team CASA-Initiation]
Post by: MonsterManic on April 10, 2018, 02:23:22 AM
INITIATION BRIEFING:

Local huntsmen have reported a gigantic swarm of Grimm heading to a village hamlet by the name of Verdea. The village has already begun evacuating with Hunters on standby, but the locals have expressed concern at the speed of the evacuation. To that end, Beacon has volunteered to send a team of hunters-in-training to man a defensible position outside the village borders, to ensure as little Grimm as possible make it to Verdea before complete evacuation is achieved. Team CASA, accompanied by Professor Ferus, is tasked with holding off as many Grimm for as long as possible until either Verdea completes its evacuation or until retreating is deemed necessary by the accompanying teacher.

Objectives:
-Hold out for as long as possible/until evacuation completion
-Let as few Grimm through as possible

As the distinct chime of his scroll sounded to indicate the message he'd been expecting, Professor Ferus finished his pre-mission checks on his equipment and reached back to read the mail. Finding the details included satisfactory, he swiftly composed a message to the four members of team CASA: Meet me at landing platform 12 as soon as you finish necessary preparations. -Professor Ferus. Shouldering his equipment, he strode off to his designated meeting point to await the team he would be supervising on their initiation.

Her first mission with her new team - Team CASA, with Coconut Cream, Amane Petrichor, and Jocelyn Antiqua. Three people she'd never met, all grouped together for the first time ever and tasked with defending an evacuating village from Grimm. It could be a life-or-death situation if anything went wrong, if they couldn't work as a team - or more importantly, Prism couldn't lead them to victory.

...she hoped they liked donuts.

It was a nerve-wracking situation, and Prism couldn't have been more excited. After attaching as much ammo to her belt as possible, double-checking Hawk's Eye, and filling a spare bag with energy drinks and a few too many snacks, Prism had been left with a bit of spare time - just enough to pop into town and nab a dozen donuts from the nearest bakery. Despite the fact breakfast had passed, there was bound to be someone who hadn't eaten yet, and even if the pastries weren't the healthiest choice before a mission, they'd be a good way to make a better impression on her new team. With the box held under one arm and her spare bag in the other, Prism finished jogging to the landing platform, offering Professor Ferus and nod and smile. The faunus was wearing her usual jean jacket, hiding her wings from view - best to see if any were raging racists first, before revealing her faunus heritage. Turning the smile to the other young woman nearby, she drops her bag at her side and offers her hand in a handshake to her classmate. "Hey, nice to meet you! I'm Prism, Prism Skylark - we've both been assigned to team Casanova, yeah?"

Coconut had spent his entire morning preparing for the mission. He woke up at six, forced himself out of bed at 6:30, cleaned himself up, got dressed, spent an hour doing his hair - he had chosen to wear a pair of white gold clips, one on each side of his head - and then got to the less important stuff, such as preparing his gear.

To be fair, he didn't really have that much gear to begin with. It was essentially just O.T.N. and his coat. The boy had hefted the sheath in his hands, then opted to not take it at all. He instead transformed O.T.N. into its secondary form and strapped it onto the back of his coat - it was possible they'd have to fight as soon as they landed and fighting larger grimm with the short sword was hardly an option.

After a morning workout routine consisting of stretches, pushups, sit-ups and a copious amount of squats, the boy had gone for a late breakfast. As he was just sitting down with his food, however, he received the message from Ferus. Just like that, the boy chugged down the glass of orange juice he had taken, chomped off a piece of bacon and ran out from the canteen with a piece of toast in his mouth.

He tried quickly consuming the toast as he ran, hoping that he wouldn't be late as he wanted to make the best impression. He hadn't met his teammates yet, but he knew a single important fact about them - they were girls. As he realized that he was going to meet them today, and from that moment fight and live alongside for four whole years, he accidentally jabbed the remaining piece of toast down his throat.

Coconut coughed and sputtered, not allowing himself to stop and clear his throat properly. As he rushed towards platform 12, the boy was still wheezing and patting his own chest. He stopped in front of the small group which had gathered there and coughed loudly before letting out a soft breath.

"I-I'm- cough - here!" he forced out, smacking the middle of his chest with his fist to clear his airway. God that was dumb.

Prism opens her mouth to say something else to her teammate - Amane, she was guessing - but was quickly interrupted as someone else skidded to a stop a few feet away. Offering the new teammate a brief smile and a "One moment!" signal with her hand, she lets herself slip behind the new arrival before pounding him a couple of times on the back. "Breath, dude! Don't need to die before we even get on the ship."

Seeing the exchange of banter between the team made Ferus remember his time in his own team, and made him glad that this one didn't have as big a problem as he was back then. Certainly he single-handedly made his team the most dysfunctional one in Beacon, without a doubt. Hence why he was glad he could guide students on the right path. Speaking of teams, this one was still lacking a person.

"Where on Remnant is the last member--" he started, then was cut off by a shout of "I'm sorryyyy!" Turning to face the direction of the noise, he saw a girl soaring clear over a 5-meter wall as easily as one would jump over a puddle, before seemingly growing wings and gliding toward the group. Either she's a faunus or I'm growing old. It honestly might be the latter, Ferus thought to himself. As the last member of the group drew close, however, he saw it was neither--the "wings" were of mechanical origin, which made a satisfying "clunk" as they retracted behind the girl's back.

"Apologies for my tardiness, Professor--I couldn't find the right landing pad." The girl panted, before regaining her breath and straightening up to greet the remainder of her team. "I'm sorry for holding everyone up, too. My name's Jocelyn Antiqua, and I hope we can get along as a team." She smiled, with an air of politeness and innocence.

Coconut coughed a couple of times more and bent forward slightly upon getting hit on the back. "Gah- Thanks, I'm f-fine!" he sputtered out. So much for making a good first impression.

The boy then jumped at the sudden appearance of the fourth member of their team - the girl had literally just flown in. With wings. Holy hell.

With everyone here, he was able to finally see the three girls he'd be teaming up with in one place.

The first girl who had been the one to smack him from behind was also the shortest of the group, at least a head or two shorter than Coconut himself. If he hadn't already known that all his teammates were girls and if she hadn't already spoken, Coconut wouldn't be able to immediately guess she was a girl. With a flat chest, rather plain outfit and rather short hair, she seemed rather tomboyish - but she was also still pretty cute. Plus, look at how short she was!

"...Fine" He muttered again, a smile creeping up in the corners of his lips.

The second girl was just slightly more feminine than the first, with longer hair, though she was dressed somewhat plainly as well. She was also a bit taller and sported a more... developed figure than the first, which was something Coconut made sure to appreciate on first glance. She seemed to be the most withdrawn of the three - Cream made a mental note to try and chat with her and figure out what her deal was.

"Fiiiine..." Coconut repeated himself, almost withdrawing himself from the current situation by now, lost in his own little world.

And the last girl... Man, she was pretty! She was also the girliest of the bunch, though not as in-shape as many of the girls he had seen on school grounds already. Never the less, Cream's sight quickly jumpoed from her blouse, to her skirt, to her legs, and then back up to do it all over again.

"Hahaah... Fine." He huffed out, salivating. He was gone already.

Prism's attention turns to the girl who just hopped over the wall, eyes widening slightly at the pair wings that fold into the device on her back. Looks like she isn't the only one with flight capabilities on this team. She offers a smile, patting the new guy on the back a few more times before introducing herself. "Nice to meet you Jocelyn, I'm Prism. Cool jump pack you've got there!".

Her attention turns back to Amane as the other guy starts uttering "Fine..." under his breath, offering her the same grin as Jocelyn. "Sorry, our initial introduction got interrupted there - same as well, it's really nice to meet you guys! I hope we get along well into the future.". She glances back to the choking boy - and her eyes immediately snapped to where his stared, her brow crinkling as she realized he'd been checking them all out. She needs to stand on tiptoes to do it, but she manages to reach up to somehow politely smack the back of his head. "Earth to... I'm guessing you're Coconut Cream, you're the only one who hasn't introduced themselves. Come back to reality there, bud."

What a blatant display.

On one hand, Ferus could completely understand where Mr. Cream was coming from. Just because he was now a teacher didn't mean he didn't appreciate the...finer details in life. But on the other, it was becoming so obvious that only a blindfolded and ear-plugged blind and deaf person (or just really oblivious) would miss the signals that he was giving out. Trying to put on a stern face, he cleared his throat.

"Mr. Cream, I would like to suggest that if you want to continue your actions, you had best find a way to protect your nether regions," though his face clearly showed the rebuke had no ill intent. Turning to Jocelyn he swiftly continued: "Miss Antiqua if you truly wish to save lives you should know best that seconds count on a battlefield. You would do well to remember that." Nodding slightly at Amane's signal he finished with: "Everyone on the Bullhead. If you wish to further socialise, get all of it out before we land." He would wait until everyone got on, then get on himself and signal for the pilot to take off.

Jocelyn couldn't believe how many landing platforms Beacon had, and felt subsequently embarrassed when it was revealed everyone else had got there in time. Hanging her head, she accepted her scolding from Professor Ferus, but her gaze shot up quickly when Prism...smacked Coco on the head? Wait, what had the professor said?

Oh.

Ohhhh. Oh, Dust.

Tearing her gaze from the boy, she faced the other two girls of the group to wipe her conclusions from her mind. "Thank you, Prism! And don't we all, Amane!"

Coconut was brought back into reality by the smack to the back of his head and Ferus' helpful little piece of advice. He visibly jumped upon realizing he had drifted off in the first place. "O-oh! Yeah, sorry, hi! I'm Coconut, but you can call me Coco, or Cream, or... or anything."

While he was pretty sure Ferus was just joking, he did instinctively cup his hands together in front of his family jewels. It wouldn't actually be the first time if one of them did decide to strike him where it hurts. "Sorry!" he repeated, before his lascivious look returned yet again. It almost seemed like his default expression. "I-I am also looking forward to working with you all." While his words were in response to Amane, the intent was clearly a bit... off.

Still in a slightly protective pose, the boy followed his team along to the Bullhead. He seemed to be slightly lagging behind, though. To call it obvious would be seriously underselling it.

Prism was first on the bullhead, ignoring the feeling of Coconut's eyes on her... lower back, at least for now. Claiming a seat just inside the door, she tucks her spare bag of snacks and ammo underneath the seat. It was necessary to remove Hawk's Eye from her belt to sit down, and she slides the metallic box between her feet to hold on to for safekeeping before plopping the donut box into her lap, flipping up the lid while the rest of her team sits down. Choosing a cream-filled donut - and glancing at Coconut again, before tucking the other cream-filled donut on the other side of the box, away from him - she turns the pastries to her teammates and teacher. "I had enough time to pop into town and nab these before we headed out, I figured it'd add a nice little something to such an early-morning mission. While we're flying there, can everyone go over their weapons, general combat styles, and semblances? It'd be nice to know what we're all working with here."

She takes a bite after that, and thinks for a moment before reaching down to her spare bag to pull out an obnoxiously sugary energy drink to wash it all down. She might've overpacked on the food a bit.

Jocelyn, entering in front of the two males, gingerly picked one of the mines up. "Um, personally I'm not into using such violent weapons, but these will indeed come in useful. Just...not for me. I appreciate the thought, Amane." Equally lightly, she replaces the mine on the floor. "If I get overwhelmed, I'm afraid we all will have been by that point, for my role is not sniping but rather healing. The rifle you see is simply a tool for me to administer care as necessary, though I am also trained as a fully-qualified medic." She gestures to her first-aid kit on her hip. "Should your aura fail at any given moment, I am capable of tending to any wounds caused as a result, as well as replenishing your aura on demand."

At this point, the professor enters the Bullhead and signals for the pilot to take off. Another hand signal to indicate that they should continue talking, though he raises an eyebrow at the mines. "So...yeah. That's my role. If they want, someone can take my mine for themselves." She tried to ignore the feeling of prying eyes.

Prism takes the mine carefully with her free had, turning it over in inspection and nodding carefully while listening to Amane's instructions. "Thanks, these will be useful - I'm one of those snipers, by the way. Hawk's Eye here is accurate up to 800 meters, and I can usually pull up to 1500 if the weather's nice at least in rifle form, she's got a secondary as a glave too."

Listening to Jocelyn's explanation of her semblance however cracks a smile out of the small faunus, taking the mine that was offered to anybody about and instead and clipping both onto spare loops of her belt. "So now that jump pack makes sense! Mobile healer who hits from a distance, I like it - we'll be able to give each other a hand getting around, too. My semblance isn't quite as useful as healing, it mostly creates a bunch of wind, though it still gives me a few tricks. And it's cool if you prefer not to fight, but are you okay with self-defense if it comes down to it? I'd hate for the healer to get hurt."

Coconut followed the team onto the ship and took a seat as the conversation began to unfold around him. He picked up one of the mines and decided to examine it for a moment. He didn't even bother downloading that scroll app. He shouldn't even be entrusted with operating a toaster - an anti-personnel mine was a bit much.

He then realized that he was the only one who hadn't really explained his abilities. Not that there was much to explain. "I'm a melee fighter. Don't really have any semblance to speak of... Or gun, or nothing. I usually just go in hard." he explained, tapping O.T.N.'s hilt on his back, then accepted one of the donuts offered by Prism. "I could maybe set these mines up when I'm out there, but I'm probably not going to be the one to blow 'em."

For a moment, he considered his teammate's abilities outside of them being cute girls. A sniper, a... ranged healer, however that worked, and...

"What sort of fighting do you do, Amane?" he asked, looking towards the girl. Speaking to the boy directly was... Odd. He definitely didn't take his eyes off of his conversation partner, it's just that he had a tendency to not look at the other person's face all that much.

Coconut's staring at Amane again, and Prism frown temporarily in disdain. Chugging the rest of the caffeinated drink, the empty can is launched expertly towards the boy's head, only to bounce off and fall to the floor again. "Remnant to Coconut, you're looking in the wrong place there buddy. I don't want you distracted when we hit the ground, so can you at least wait until after the mission?"

After the can makes contact, Prism turns back to Amane as she explains her semblance. Passive, she's not able to show up on camera or photos, and you forget what she looks like every twelve hours - the ultimate spy. Nodding in response to the explanation of the other bombs, she detaches the ones she put from her belt before handing them back to Amane to return to the case. Pulling out her scroll to download the recommended app, she whacks the somewhat defunct tablet on her hand a couple times before it turns on."So here's what I'm thinking: Amane, you know these weapons best, so take two of each out onto the field with you and use at your discretion, though it's preferable they're a last-resort weapon in case you hit a rough patch. Coconut and you hold the front line while Jocelyn and I cover you from a distance, and the rest of the mines can stay with me in the case to use as necessary. If backup is necessary... Jocelyn, can you carry another person with you while jumping with those wings? I might be able to help you get to longer distances though if you ride on the wind I create, so worse case scenario we can help those two in and out of the field, and drop off more bombs as well.

Jocelyn giggled softly at the can hitting Coco's head, though that sweet smile was wiped off her face instantly at the sight of even more explosives. While her amount of firepower is...questionable--seems more fitting for a Atlesian squad than a Huntress--I don't actually think her Semblance will be too much trouble. We are living together, after all. She listened attentively to Prism giving orders, who already stood out as the leader, and giving a reply of "Wilco...I-I mean yes, yes I can." with a slight stammer as her Atlas-based training automatically kicked in.

[one ZA WARU- ahem Timeskip later]

Ferus rose from his window seat to address the team as they were about to land. Outside the thick windows, he could just see the small circle that denoted the village they were aiming to defend. "Listen up," he started. "As you can see, Verdea is just below us. It is imperative that we have ample time to make our preparations, especially with that payload of yours, Amane, so the less time we spend inside the village the better, where we will be of little help. I have arranged to meet with the village leaders, who have kindly agreed to provide us with any necessities they can spare. If anyone has questions or lacks certain equipment, speak now."

Coconut had, of course, apologized for staring after getting acan thrown at his head. He then settled in for the rest of the ride to the village while continuing to check the girls while being as subtle as an ursa is gallant. Whenever he realized that Prism had noticed his staring, however, he did his best to appear as if he was just staring out the window or something. It wasn't particularly effective.

As the airship closed in on the village, a look of almost childish excitement spread across Coconut's face. His first proper mission with his team. It was exhilarating to say the least.

He didn't need any extraneous equipment, or much preparation. He just needed his sword and ground to stand on. Despite its simplicity, O.T.N. in its larger form was great for fighting grimm; the boy kept its blade sharp enough to slice through the smaller grimm with little effort. Still, he could only fight effectively with it for so long before running out of breath. As such, after Amene's questions were answered, he turned to the teacher.

"How long do you think the evac will take?" he asked. He'd fight on fumes if he had to - he'd just prefer it if he didn't.

Frowning at Amane's question, Ferus responded: "I believe I heard something along the lines of Miss Antiqua moving them to safety with the help of Miss Skylark's semblance. As for the second instance, that is for you to work out as a team. Only under life-and-death situations will I step in to intervene; as a matter of fact I will be responsible only for any Grimm that head in my direction. As such do not expect any assistance when fighting unless you are about to die." Turning to answer Coconut's query, he said simply: "Frankly, I do not have a clue. We'll see..." punctuated by the jolt and bump of the Bullhead touching terra firma, "...now."

Contrary to what an evacuating village might conjure up in one's mind, Verdea, to their inhabitants' credit, was nothing of the sort. What could have been an utter panic and stampede to escape was instead orderly queues and a relatively relaxed atmosphere. People were loading their worldly possessions onto big transport craft, but despite the calm, from what Ferus could conclude, there was still much to be done before Verdea was done evacuating. In all honesty, a bit longer than he would have liked. As he watched, one man broke away from a circle of people and beckoned him over with a wave of his hand. Those must be the village leaders. Hearing the sounds of Team CASA walking down the ramp, he turned to face them. "I will make final arrangements and enquiries before we set up. It won't take long." he stated, before striding purposefully away.

As Professor Ferus left them on their own, Jocelyn took this time to simply gaze around at the village's occupants, all in varying states of packing. Before she managed to draw any solid conclusions, though, a group of children ran up to the group. One particular girl sidled forward while the rest idled behind her. "Are you the group here to save us?" she asked innocently.

"With a little luck, nobody will go down Amane but if they do - well, we have a trained medic on staff. The other two can hopefully provide cover while Jocelyn stabilizes them if necessary, which is why I actually want to save those anti-personnel mines. They'll provide the cover necessary to evacuate and fall back to a more defensible position. If two of us go down... that's the type of the situation where we'll need to alert the village as to what's happening, and continue to fall back while defending as long as possible."

Hooking Hawk's Eye onto her belt again, Prism descended the airship at the front of the group as they finally touched down in Verdea. All the ammo she'd need was tucked into her pant pockets, there were cartridges for immediate reloads on her belt... hopefully it'll be more than enough for the mission. "If possible Professor, can you see if they have a map of the village? I want to set up so nothing can sneak past us, but so we can keep everyone on the ground covered too."

As the group of children break away from the evacuating villagers and bolted towards the group, Prism drops into a crouch so she's at eye-level with the little girl. "Yeah, we're here to keep you guys safe. We'll make sure nothing bad comes by, right guys?" A glance is given back to the group behind her, the look saying play along or I will end you.

Coconut had nodded to Ferus as the group made it down the ramp. As soon as his feet touched the ground, his right hand raised slightly in order to always be near the hilt of his weapon. It was a habit Ether had passed onto him, to always be ready to fight when on a mission. Usually, he'd just keep his hand on his weapon as it laid in its sheath, but as he had opted to keep it in its larger form, he somewhat awkwardly rasted his hand over his shoulder.

The boy smiled even wider than he had been before when the kids ran up to them. He gave Prism and the children a thumbs up, registering Prism's slightly threatening glance. "Right! You can count on us!" he proclaimed confidently.

He briefly glanced around the rest of the village. These people were counting on them. This wasn't just a game or a test this time. It was for real. People's lives were at stake. A sudden sense of pride overtook Coconut, a big, dumb grin plastered on his face.

The girl looked at each member of the team with a shine in her eyes, refocusing on Prism, who she could see the best now that she dropped to the child's level. "So you are hunters!" she squealed excitedly. "Ohh all of you are so cool!" Seeing the girl interact with the group, the remainder of the children started pushing forward for a better look at the team. "Think the blacksmith's evacuated already, miss," an older boy piped up, "But I think he's left most of his wares over there," he pointed to a sizeable stash of armor and weapons, stuff used to arm footsoldiers, "so you can use that."

Rather than interact with the children, however, Jocelyn was marveling on how cheerful the children were, despite the fact that their village was about to come under assault and they were most likely going to lose their home. Children are so innocent, she wondered as one tugged on her blouse to get her attention. Doing the same as Prism she squatted to speak to the child. "Are we gonna die, miss?" the boy asked loud enough that everyone else stopped their conversations to look.

Prism glanced at Amane and nodded to the pile of spears, motioning for her to go ahead, and smiled in response to Coconut's passionate declaration. "Exactly what he said, we're here to watch out for you guys. And awww, thanks! You guys are pretty cool too, you know? You're really brave to be so calm when evacuating."

Watching Jocelyn squat down to answer the little kid's question, she gives a brief smile to the medic before it falters a little at the boy's question. Alright, time to get dramatically cheesy. Popping to her feet, she takes strolls over to the blacksmith's discarded pile of weapons. Swords, shields, more spears than she can count... but underneath it all, a long-forgotten cardboard box, which Prism tugs out to reveal a small pile of toy weaponry. Perfect.

Lugging the box back to the group, she drops back into the squat and digs through it, presenting the first passable weapon - a child-sized slingshot - to the little boy who asked Jocelyn the question. "No, you're not going to die, but there's some pretty important stuff you need to do if you want to help us keep you guys safe, okay? Be quick, stay calm, and don't leave your families. They want to keep you safe just like we do. You don't need to be brave, don't worry about that - that's what we're here for."

"The only ones dying today are the grimm who thought they could mess with us - you have my word on that!" Coconut responded after the rest of the team had given their input. He then looked over Prism's shoulder to briefly check the sketch that Amane had made. It seemed simple enough, but he'd probably wait for Amane to show how she wants all the stuff to be set up in practice. Cream knew he'd mess it up somehow.

"On it!" he had responded to his order from Amane. He gathered as many spears as he could physically carry - and it was a sizeable amount, though he was now straining himself a little - and started waddling towards the main gate. He set the spears down on the ground and looked out towards the forest, taking a deep breath, then exhaling slowly. He then just waited around for his team, while trying to look as serious and important as he could, like a guard at the gate. Maybe he looked cool for the kids, but his expression made him seem a bit dorky.

Prism stands up from the kids and takes the paper from Amane, looking over the diagram. "It's a good plan, especially for you guys on the ground. With a little luck, it won't come down it though. And the V-shape is smart - it'll let you channel the Grimm. Quick question though, what're the plans for the rest of the mines?"

As she talks, Prism moves to tug off her jacket before tying it around her waist. Her wings aren't immediately visible, but she ruffles them slightly before stretching them out to their full six-foot length, the blue-green feathers glimmering slightly in the early-morning sun as she gives a brief sigh at the stretch. It never felt good to keep those tucked up for too long. Nabbing another armful of spears, she start off towards the gate and gestures for her team to follow, before arriving alongside Coco - might as well help prepare while they have the chance. "Coco and Jocelyn - you two good? Understand the plan and all?"

After that shocking question out of nowhere had been resolved, Jocelyn had spent the duration of her team's conversation attempting to dissuade the children from whacking each other over the head too hard with their toys, but she still kept an ear out to not completely lose track of any tactics they were discussing. Amane really has an eye for strategy. Those fortifications will really help in the long run. Gasps and sounds of awe from the children made her turn around, wherein the sight of Prism's fully extended wings made her do a double take. Our leader's a faunus? I never would have guessed.

"Um, yeah, I understand!' She called, picking up the last bundle of spears. Before she started walking, she overheard the girl who started the conversation shout "I want to be a huntress when I grow up!" bringing a cheerful smile to Jocelyn's face. When she reconvened with her team, she unceremoniously dumped her load of spears onto the floor next to their clones, before hearing loud footsteps and turning to see Professor Ferus striding toward them, somehow having donned gleaming gold armor and carrying a massive lance taller than he was. With one hand. I think that thing's heavier than I am. He could probably lift the entire team if he wanted to, or something...Note to self: don't get on his bad side in classes.

"They didn't have a map, so I had to settle for a rough sketch." Ferus grumbled, showing the team the layout of the village. "Exterior line's the village wall, with the two circles being the two main plazas. Those three lines are the main streets, with the blank spaces being houses. The gap in the wall's the entrance where we're currently at." He arched an eyebrow at the stockpile of spears, though he didn't bat an eye at Prism's now unfurled wings. "I'm assuming you plan on using those somewhere. Once you're done setting up defences, just head straight outside the village. I'll be waiting at the planned location of defence. It should be clearly visible from the entrance, though the landscape beyond the point isn't clear." With that said, he started walking away from the team.

Coconut was dumbstruck. The sight of Prism heading their way with her wings out was dazzling to the boy - for multiple reasons. He had no idea that their team leader was actually a faunus... He wanted to pet those wings. So bad.

"I uh... You... yeah, I got it," he responded to her question, eyes fixated on the wings. They were just so shiny. " Are those... real?" he asked excitedly. Almost certainly too excitedly.

He then shook his head to keep himself somewhat focused. He briefly noted Ferus' return in his armor and all - he made a mental note to ask the teacher about his workout routine after the mission - and then turned to Amane to see what he had to do. He watched her carefully and silently to try and keep her actions in mind, though the things she did with that angle thing and that other doohickey was beyond him. He did get the gist of it, however, and got to making his own digging tool and jamming spears into holes.

"Oh, sure, yeah. It's... Pretty lame, though," he said. He grabbed a nearby pebble and placed it in his palm. Moments later, the pebble's color changed to a creamy white. "I can sort of 'take colors' from things then put them elsewhere." The boy then tapped the shaft of the spear he was holding, a dark grey blotch of color spreading from his finger. "Something like that."

There's a minor snort at Coconut's question, and she purposefully ruffles both wings in response. "I mean, I sure hope they're real, considering I've been flying with them the last 17 years or so." His tone seems to go unnoticed at least for now - too busy paying attention to Amane's instructions.

Prism only raises an eye in response to the absolutely massive suit of armor, but doesn't say anything - giving the professor a nod of thanks and confirmation in respect to his instructions. Reaching out and taking the sketch, she looks over the village's layout, tilting her head slightly as she tried to think of a plan. "Okay, so here's what I'm thinking -  let's set up that V-shape with the spears a ways from the gate, but pointed towards the entrance, that way we're able to funnel the Grimm to take out one at the time, hopefully. Amane and Coco, you two will focus on devastating any grimm near the entrance to the V and keeping them from getting through funnel, while Jocelyn provides cover from the wall and helps keep you two on your feet. I'll stick to the airspace above the gate, and help provide cover and distractions for you two while taking as many shots of my own as I can get, and literally drop in on the ground whenever needed. In case we need a quick evac, I can get Jocelyn off the village walls out into the field fairly quickly to drag whoever goes down back into safety. Sound like a good plan?"

Jocelyn nodded in response to Amane's request for a rope, and boosted off with her jump pack in search for one such item that would suit Amane's needs. Upon shuffling around some discarded boxes of bits and bobs, she found one that didn't look like it'd been on a prison diet for years. Returning to her team, she found the defences almost completely set up, with Amane pulling the rope taut around the frontal spears and tying them in place. With that, Prism deemed the last line of defence complete, and the team set out to find the professor while the group of children stood at the entrance of the village waving them goodbye.
(Timeskip)

Ferus watched the group walk up to where he stood, seemingly on the edge of a hill. Behind him, he knew, the students could not see anything but the blue sky. "While I commend you on having the initiative to set up a last line of defence, the time it took you to do so was too long. I recommend practicing set-ups like those if you all as a team plan on doing things like that more often." After that, he moved aside for the students to get a view of their battlefield. It was quite simple to understand why this had been chosen as the spot where team CASA would make their stand. From his point, a steep hill descended downward, spreading out 180 degrees. Beyond that were cliff walls that were unscalable without tools. Another 50 paces from the bottom of the hill was a dense tree line, where it was near impossible to determine if there were any Grimm lurking within.

Clearing his throat, he continued: "While you were working on your defences, I have received a report from the scouts that Verdea has stationed to keep an eye on the Grimm horde. Due to the natural speed of some Grimm and the lack thereof from others, you will very likely be facing waves of Grimm instead of one massive swarm. In addition..." he glanced at his scroll, "I estimate you have 3 minutes before the first wave. Make your preparations before then." He turned away and walked back a decent distance toward the village, before assuming a guardian stance between the team and the entrance, making sure it was far enough to activate his last resort.

Three minutes... Three bloody minutes until the grimm got there. The fun was about to start.

Coconut looked down at the slope and pondered for a moment. "You guys use guns, right? Probably a good idea to put some distance between you lot and me." He commented and took a few steps down the hill. As he walked, he grabbed O.T.N. by the hilt and took the weapon off of his back, swinging it forward to then hold it in both hands. He weighed his weapon for a moment.

"I'll have to be the front line, right? But I can't cover all of it on my own... Maybe I could..." He took a stance about halfway down the hill, staring down at the forest looking for any movement. Not seeing any, he spoke up again. "...stand about here. Then you ladies could shoot the ones that make it past me, yeah?"

He then blinked and turned to face the others for a moment, sword resting over his shoulder for now. "Is that dumb?"

Prism looks down at Coconut's positioning, nodding in approval. "Not a bad idea Coco, that sounds like a good plan. Can stay there unless you're forced back up, and it's easy for me to drop down to provide more melee support or evacuate. Amane should be able to cover you from that distance as well. In the meantime..."

Reach behind her, she detaches the steel box she was carrying at her waist, unfolding a couple components before pressing a button - and with a few quick metallic sliding sounds, the box becomes a lightweight rifle in white-and-blue. pressing another small button to pop up a scope, she peers through - scanning the treeline for any grimm.

Pursing her lips at the mention of the Grimm arriving--three minutes and counting, no less--Jocelyn mimicked Prism's actions, unslinging Hyacinth and extending it to its active mode. She also removed Steam Flower from her back and inserted fresh crystals of Kinetic, Fire and Ice Dust into the crystalline slot before returning it to her back. Glancing back at Professor Ferus, who had left the team to fend for themselves, she inevitably felt a wave of nervousness wash over her. This was real, and people would inevitably get hurt. But that was why she was here.

Toggling the button on her jump pack that unveiled her "wings"--not as impressive or long as Prism's, but still--Jocelyn ran through a gun safety check on her rifle, examining the bolt-action, safety catch, loading chamber before sliding a magazine in and folding her wings up. "Coco, I'll make sure that your Aura is constantly topped up, but don't overextend, please. I only have so much to sacrifice. And that goes for you too, Prism. But if both of you get overwhelmed, I'll share all my Aura between the two of you. That's the best I can do." she called to Coco.

Before anyone had time to respond to Amane's query, guttural howls tore through the once quiet surroundings, horrifying and nauseating to listen to. Neither wolf nor lion could make such nightmare-inducing noises, which could only mean......

The Grimm were here to kill.

The unnatural sounds snapped the team's attention instantly to the dense tree line, where several Beowolves and an larger Alpha Beowolf had emerged from the cover of the forest, having blended in near perfectly with the dark leaves and shadows. With nary a pause to reorientate, the pack made a mad dash for the hill which the team was situated on, completely ignoring the presence of the hunters-in-training. Either completely by random or by instinct, the pack formed a semicircle around the Alpha Beowolf, as if physically protecting the leader.

"Hahaa, that sounds gre-" Coconut was in the middle of giving Jocelyn an entirely *not*-creepy response when the howling began. Oh, lord, the howling - Coco had never heard so many and this up close. The sound send shivers of fear and excitement down the boy's back. It was time to show what he was made of.

Coco's fight theme: パラサイト(Parasite) - nqrse feat. まふまふ and luz (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIuNE1bjQRs)

The six beowolves and the alpha emerged just as Coco took hold of O.T.N. with both of his hands, swinging it back around in front of himself, his cloak swaying with his movements. With the way the creatures were running towards him, they'd be just close enough together for Coconut to hold the advantage. He'd just have to rely on the rest of his team to deal with the Alpha.

As the group closed in the boy made a dash forward, his blade held at a 45 degree angle to his right. He swung his blade forward while slamming his foot on the ground on his last step, launching the blade forward in an arc which would strike the six beasts if only the blade passed through them all. The first two or three would be no problem, but once he'd hit the fourth grimm he'd feel the strain in his arms. By the time he'd reached the last beowolf, the blade could get stuck. He cursed himself for not taking his time with the creatures, but he wasn't sure if he ever had a better choice.

He just clenched his teeth and tightened his muscles, prepared to suffer if any of the wolves lived to retaliate. Jocelyn might need to bring his aura back up sooner than expected.

There's the sound of a rifle cocking, and a shot rings out: Prism, aiming directly for the Beowolf that Coconut's sword is likely to get lodged into. Moving her head away from the scope to see the outcome of the shot, Prism nods regardless before a harsh wind sweeps through the area, channeling into an updraft surrounding the bird faunus; and with a beat of her wings Prism takes to the skies,. The beat of her wings becomes a nearly imperceptible blur and the wind cuts out, simply hovering 30-odd meters above the battlefield parallel to the line of charging grimm.

"Coco that was damn cool, but don't overextend yourself! We're going to need you!" The Casanova leader yells to her teammate, before four more rapid shots are taken at the rapidly-approaching Grimm below: two aimed at the twin grimm flanking the Alpha, while the final two are notably aimed towards the Alpha's head, hoping to blind the largest grimm. There's a click as the cartridge is rejected, and then Prism reloads.

While Coco started the engagement and both Amane and Prism opened fire, before the leader rose into the air and kept firing, Jocelyn assumed a prone position on the lip of the hill with bipod steadying her aim, thermal scope trained on Coco and ready to sacrifice some of her aura if needed. She held her fire but kept her finger on the trigger guard, careful not to accidentally shoot Coco with an actual bullet instead of a Semblance-charged one. Please be okay, she thought.

With a satisfying shink Coco's sword bit deep into the soft flesh of the Beowolves, slicing through one, two, three, four before his strength started inevitably faltering from the effort it took to cut cleanly through the combined resistance of all the bodies. Amane's bullet, perfectly aimed, gave O.T.N. the extra push it needed to overpower the fifth, but it bounced harmlessly off the arm of the sixth, the sword's kinetic energy having been used up. The Beowolf, seeing the death of its comrades, roared full-on in Coco's face and raised one claw to slash viciously at his chest, before Prism's bullet slams solidly into its own chest, instantly killing the Grimm.

Meanwhile, Amane's ricocheted bullet continued travelling in the direction of the Alpha Beowolf, but simply lodged itself in its chest bone armor due to some of its force being transferred to O.T.N., which did nothing to slow its progress. The next two shots from Prism impact, but the full damage it could have done is negated again by the armor on its face. Now enraged, the Alpha took one giant bound forward, taking a sideswipe at Coco on the way, before lunging at Amane with both claws.

Beowolves x 6 Eliminated!
Alpha Beowolf x 1 (Head armor slightly damaged)

Twin Strike (14%) on Amane

Coconut felt great satisfaction as his blade passed through the grimm. His mind barely registered Amane's bullet helping him along, but O.T.N. pathetically dinking off of the last grimm snapped him back to reality. The first thing he noted was Prism's voice calling out behind him.

She thought he was cool!

The stupid grin he had was wiped off of his face as the alpha began its charge. It wasn't charging directly at Coconut - it seemed intent on getting past him in order to get to Amane, who had enraged the beast with her shots.

Not if he can help it!

Cocunut, reeled back O.T.N. in both of his hands, the pommel of the sword reaching behind his back. As the creature bounced forward, Coco jabbed the blade forward. He took the hit from the beast, wincing as the pain spread throughout his body, in order to lodge O.T.N. in the creature's side. It might not kill the thing, but that wasn't his intent - he just needed to throw it off balance and buy Amane some time.

As her next round of ammo snaps into place, Prism watches the monster dive for her teammate - she's not going to make it down there in time to be of any use, so she'll stay in the air for now. Another shot rings out, this time the petite hummingbird aiming for the base of the Alpha's neck, there's no bone armor there, so she should be able to penetrate it's spine fairly easily, and more importantly, not hit the other young woman who it's pouncing on.

"Amane, Coco, report status. All okay?" The young woman calls out, drifting a couple feet lower in order to get a better look on her teammates.

Before her thermal scope could even ping to notify her of Aura loss, Jocelyn had already sent her first healing round at Coco to fully replenish his Aura. Thankfully, since the Alpha's main target wasn't Coco, he merely took a glancing hit and thus saved her from any backlash. Looking away from her scope and up at Prism she reported "Coco's Aura is restored from his previous hit." before returning to her previous position, confident that the Alpha could be handled without her assistance.

Coco's blade bit deep into the Alpha's side, but slid out as the Grimm continued its lunge toward its original target. It was off balance from the hit, however, and in the next instant it was obliterated by the three point-blank rounds from Amane and the spinal tap from Prism, fading to ashes before it could touch Amane. The instant threat of danger was over.

Or so they thought.

With nary a pause a full-grown Beringel exploded out of the trees with a thundering bellow, having used their battle as a distraction to creep closer. Hot on its tail (or legs) were a trio of Ursa, but these were still young and lacked the armor of their elder counterparts. While the Ursa followed the same path as the Beowolves before them, albeit split apart so Coco could only reach one at a time, the Beringel stopped to heft a tree from the ground that it had knocked over with its appearance, before beginning to walk up the slope at a slow pace, the tree couched like a lance in front.

Prism doesn't have time to breath as the Alpha dissipates, before four new threats burst from the trees: three juvenile Ursa, and a massive Beringel that stoops to pick up a tree. Good news, no flying enemies yet; bad news, this one had something it could throw. Well, fuck.

"Amane, focus on the overcompensating ape, detonate if deemed necessary! Coconut, take one of the Ursa - I've got the other two! Jocelyn, cover fire for Coconut and Amane would be great!" Prism's latest cartridge is popped, before being replaced by one with a notably light-blue casing - ice dust-tipped rounds. The hummingbird faunus flies backwards up the hill and regains her altitude with another gust of wind, still facing the new threat, before leveling her rifle. Four shots in total follow, aiming two each at their front limbs. If they make contact, the limbs will become cased in ice - hopefully buying enough time for the rest of the team to dispatch the bigger threat. The final ice bullet is shot towards the hands of Beringal, at least trying to disarm it.

Coco stumbled slightly as his blade slid out of the beast once more, but was pleased to see the monster dissipate. "Nice work!" he called out, throwing a fist pump in the air. Soon after, he was struck by a bullet - one which restored his aura. In those brief moments before the appearance of the four other grimm, his expression shifted once more.

J-Jocelyn's aura... Went inside of me just now.

Reinvigorated, Coconut turned to face the new threats. He heard Prism's orders and, as much as he wanted to charge down the big beastie in the back, knew he should probably follow them. He took a defensive stance in order to catch his breath before the ursa closed in on him. As it did, he swung once - a clean, horizontal slash. He didn't put as much force into the attack as he had in the first one - but he didn't really have to.

Unload the used cartridge. Pull back on the bolt-action lever. Listen to the sound of another bullet sliding into place. Release the level and let it spring forward. Finger on the trigger and....fire.

The loud sound of a shot rang out, coming from Jocelyn's Hyacinth and aiming straight for the Ursa bearing down on Coco, as per Prism's command to provide support. Of course, the Beringel didn't go unnoticed, but once again Jocelyn simply ignored it, trusting Amane with her heavier caliber weaponry to engage it.

Bad idea.

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [█████████-] 92%
  ● Bullets: 5/7 in mag

The Ice Dust-rounds were put to good effect, freezing the front paws of both Ursae in place. Both growled and yanked at the ice, but their strength hadn't developed fully and couldn't break free. An easy target for even the worst aimer of the group.

Meanwhile, Coco's blade made a deep cut across the shoulder of the Ursa, but not enough to completely kill it. However, before it could do anything, Jocelyn's bullet's struck true, and the Ursa's head exploded into ashes.

The Beringel was a completely different story, however. Even with Amane's bullets hitting their mark and Prism's Ice Dust bullet coating one hand with ice, the Grimm leapt high into the air, easily reaching higher heights than Prism, before bringing the tree down with it on the prone Jocelyn, in addition to creating a massive shockwave upon impact that would crack the ground and make anyone still in contact with terra firma lose their balance.

TARGETS:
Beringel x 1 (Weapons: Tree)

There's a minor fistpump as the Ursa are frozen, and a wider smile as Coco's hit lands - but it's quickly wiped away as the Berginal leaps. Prism only manages to rapidly pull to the side, eye's following the creature's arc as it flies higher than her, before returning to earth to bring the tree down on - on Jocelyn!

Oh, fuck no.

The ice cartridge is popped, before a black cartridge is popped into place - gravity dust. Prism immediately does a 180, pulling the trigger - the gravity dust making it as if the faunus took off from the ground, shooting forwards in a burst of speed and tucking in her wings as she dives towards the healer. Pulling a hidden latch along the side of the rifle, the barrel of the gun extends, and the base transforms, the weapon's secondary form making it's first appearance this battle. Pulling another lever near the pointed head, Two more shots are fired - giving Prism the necessary momentum to whiz by the Beringal's head, delivering a harsh strike to serve as a distraction. The swipe slows down the hummingbird faunus just enough to hit the ground without her knees buckling, and she stoops immediately to wrap an arm around her teammate's middle before pulling her up with a grunt. The final two shots fire off, and both Prism and Jocelyn are propelled forwards, before a harsh wind kicks in and lifts both nearly 20 meters into the air.

With one hand wrapped around her teammate's waist and the other holding her weapon, Prism's visibly struggling to stay in the air - wings buzzing in a blur, a light updraft helping her keep them both aloft. "Jocelyn, c'mon, Jocelyn - we're gonna need you here, please tell me you can hover..."

With the ursa dealt with, the team was left with just two easy pickings and one major target - the Beringel. Sure, it was a tough opponent, but with the four of them...

The beast then jumped up into the air, Coco having to dart his head up in order to follow it. He watched the creature fly through the air, watching in horror as the creature closed in on Jocelyn.

"Jocelyn, look out!" he shouted oh-so-usefully just before Prism swooped in to save the girl. Coconut had already started rushing back uphill. When the shockwave hit, he fell flat onto his face, dropping O.T.N. onto the ground beside him.

Fuck. The Beringel was faster, stronger, larger and according to some scholars, likely smarter than Cream. The boy only had his own wits and a simple sword - he wasn't fit to fight beasts as big as that. Something he'd have to find a solution to on his own.

For now, he scrambled back up on his feet, grabbing O.T.N. off the ground and facing back down the hill. "Can you guys handle the big one?" he shouted as much as he hated it. It was quite possible more grimm were coming - and the other ursa were not dead yet.

One second Jocelyn was peering down the scope at a dead Ursa, the next she was feeling the stomach-churning feeling of being yanked into the air by a powerful force. Hearing a ear-splitting noise emanating from the ground, she twisted to get a look and her face turned whiter than flour. If not for Prism's timely intervention, she would be a pancake by now. Oh, Dust... she thought helplessly, still staring at the crater caused by the meteor strike.

Only after a while did she become aware of Prism's predicament, feeling their altitude dropping ever so gradually as the leader futilely attempted to keep the combined weight of two people plus equipment in the air. "I-I can't float, Prism--its a jumppack, not a jetpack! But with this wind..." The well-oiled mechanism of the wings unfurled themselves to their fullest length, and Jocelyn let go of Prism, freefalling for a nerve-wracking second before the mechanical wings caught the wind and stabilised her fall into a sort-of glide. With this, she established a circular gliding path downwards, raining the remainder of her shots on any part of the Beringel she could aim at. Unfortunately, she wasn't confident she could reload while gliding, so her magazine had to remain empty until she could land.

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [█████████-] 92%

The Beringel looked around, confused that there was no human to squish under its feet, before the combination of bullets and explosive throwing stars made a sizeable dent in the back part of its knees, forcing the Beringel to fall forward. Turning on the spot, it growled at Amane, before Jocelyn's volley of bullets rained on its back, doing negligible damage to the various pieces of armor it hit.

It had had enough. Picking up the tree, it hurled it lengthwise at Amane, before attempting to pounce on Coco. The damage it had suffered to its legs had successfully crippled it, however, so it could only move at a slow pace toward the boy below him on the slope. The Ursae who had their feet stuck in ice had that problem removed as the ice shattered from the shockwave, and they resumed their headlong assault on Coco--a three-way pincer attack!

TARGETS:
 ● Beringel x 1
 ● Young Ursa x 2

Battle Log:
 ●  Tree (15%) on Amane
 ●  Body Charge (5% x 2) on Coco

There's no time to rest as Prism lets go of her teammate, letting her take off before loading a regular white cartridge into the blade of the glave - firing again to kickstart her harsh dive back towards the ground. "Coco, handle the Ursae, we've got the big guy! Amane and Jocelyn wheneveryouland, I need you to distract the monkey as much as you can!"

Pullng out of the steep dive right as she hits the ground, Prism glides until she passes the anti-personnel mine right in the middle of the field, nabbing the bomb as she passes. Another shot from the base of the glaive is fired, and with a sharp turn thanks to the recoil she's thrown up the hill in the direction of where the battle takes place. "Amane, prep for my mark!"

Hovering low over the ground, the hummingbird faunus manages to sneak up on the Beringel without being noticed, before flying up it's back - landing on the creature's neck, where she plants the bomb. She immediately takes off again to avoid being swatted like a fly, and buzzes so she's overhead, aiming the staff of the glaive directly into the creature's eyes before firing again twice "Amane - detonate!"

Coco had been given a task, and by Remnant, he was going to do that task to the best of his ability. He took a solid stance with both of his feet steady on the ground, the two ursa drawing closer and closer. The grimm were thicker and heavier than the beowolves, and there was no slashing through both of them like he had done before - but that same heaviness would be what kills 'em.

Well, one of them, at least. Coco held his blade in both hands, clenching his muscles. As the beasts closed in on him, one of them shot in the side of the head, Coconut jabs OTN forward to meet the creature to his right. He puts little force behind the attack - with how things are going, it's likely to just impale itself. Or so one would hope.

The second ursa, on the other hand... Little stood in its way. Either way, Cream was getting slammed into and flung back into the dirt from the beast's charge, focusing on one thing - keeping a hold of his weapon as well as his balance.

Following Prism's instructions as best she could, Jocelyn tilted her body into a steep dive, shooting in front of the Beringel before toggling her jumppack for a momentum boost back up into the air. She swore she could feel the air from one of the Beringel's meaty hands grazing her ankles, but she got out of that situation scot free. Now to hope Prism's plan works...

 ●No changes in combat log

With a boom easily outclassing the previous impact, the remote mine cleanly evaporates everything above the Beringel's neck, scattering what used to be the Grimm's head over a wide area. The remainder of the body stood still, as if trying to register that its head had been given a ticket to another dimension, before slowly toppling over, disintegrating before it could hit the floor.

The Ursae did admittedly fare a bit better. Being shot by Amane's "hand cannon" caused one to stagger, but still managed to ram Coco. Not before its partner ran headfirst into the outstretched O.T.N., impaling itself completely. All that remained now was the heavily damaged sole Ursa.

TARGETS:
 ● Beringel x 1 Eliminated Fatality
 ● Young Ursa x 2 1 (1 eliminated by Coco)

Cresting the hill, Prism gains some height, before one final shot rings out - aimed directly towards the badly-damaged Ursa's head, before swooping down to help Amane back up onto the top of the cliff face before touching down herself.

Taking advantage of the moment of rest, the hummingbird faunus approaches the toppled Coconut to offer him a hand from his place in the dirt, talking to her team in the meanwhile. "Okay, that was really kickass, and all of you were beautiful - but also, that was waaay to close for comfort. Jocelyn, I should've told you to start moving sooner, so let's try to stay a bit more on our feet and in the air now to avoid things like that..." she gestures to the crater of where the tree impacted. "Coconut and Amane, you two have been great so far, and I like what you're doing, so no suggestions there unless you have anything to say yourself?"

With the ursa now dealt with, Coco opted to remain on one knee rather than get up immediately. The boy had worked up quite a sweat, as he had done just what he had said he'd do - gone in hard. Luckily, it seemed that they had earned some time to breathe. He accepted Prism's hand, not really considering it initially. After she had helped him stand up, however, he suddenly realized that he was, in fact, holding her hand. He wasn't in a rush to take his hand away.

"Heeh, yea, that was... Good. Good work."  he comments, nodding enthusiastically. "We make a good team, wouldn't ya say?"

Via strategic toggling of her jumppack's nozzles Jocelyn manages to float herself safely to the ground, before rushing over to give Prism a hug. "Thank you for saving me," she whispered, before letting go and stepping away awkwardly. Looking anywhere but in the direction of their leader, she notices the large figure of Professor Ferus walking toward them, having been observing the team from a distance.

From his vantage point further up the hill, Ferus spectated every single bit of combat and skill the team had to offer. Keeping his thoughts to the back of his mind for now, he reunited with the four hunters-in-training. "It is good to see the buds of cooperation already blossoming in a team so young. Many take this for granted, but the sad truth of it is that many teams do not come with the natural chemistry that allows for more sophisticated, advanced team attacks." he commended. Looking round at the four members, all in various states of dishevelment (though nowhere near his usual teaching attire--he needed to buy an iron), he stated "Scouts report we have time before the next wave, to take time off to rest up a little. However, I pose a question: What could have been done better?"

"Yeah, we do!" Prism confirms Coco's words, before letting go of his hand. Turning away from him, Prism gives a small squawk of surprise as she's slightly tacked by Jocelyn's overenthusiastic hug. Blinking for a moment, she barely has time to wrap her arms around the girl in return and murmur "Don't - don't mention it." before she pulls away. Prism stares at her shy teammate for a moment, blinking, before turning to the professor as he approaches.

The hummingbird faunus smiles as he compliments their teamwork already, but it disappears as he asks what could've gone better. She tilts her head, thinking for moment, before lifting a hand to count off the issues as she speaks. "Firstly, stationary snipers are dead snipers - that's a rule I try to live by. We shouldn't have assumed Jocelyn was safe in the back lines, and we should've gotten her up and moving sooner. We otherwise wouldn't have had her nearly squashed. I'm sorry about that, by the way." She nods to the healer, her expression apologetic. "Secondly, I feel like we could've been more coordinated. Everyone was in separate places on the ground, and bailing each other out of trouble was a bit hard, especially in Amane and Coco's case - hopefully no more scenarios where we end up with Amane dangling off a cliff without help, or Coco being cornered by three grimm like that. Thirdly... we need to work out a better way to take out large grimm like the Beringal as a team, and possibly multiple at a time. We're not always going to have bombs lying around."

Cream nodded in agreement to Prism's words, noting how positively adorable the exchange between her and Jocelyn was. He was slightly surprised by Amane offering the water bottle, but accepted it - he was pretty damn thirsty.

"Thanks! You were awesome out there, Amane!" he said before greedily chugging down some water. With the adrenaline starting to wear off slightly, he started to notice how tired he had gotten. He'd have to pace himself better if more grimm show up. He then handed the bottle back to the girl, smiling brightly. For once, it didn't even seem like he was smiling for some debauched reason, though his gaze did wander. It always did.

Jocelyn raised her hand. "Apart from large Grimm, we need ways around the armor that most Grimm have. If something heavily armored turns up, like a Death Stalker, we need countermeasures against that. I know we have mines, but those will run out, and if we can't rely on the mines then there's nothing stopping it from walking over us." she said. Taking her time to compose her next ideas into a coherent sentence, she continued, "And Prism's right--I should have been more aware of my surroundings. The team shouldn't have to constantly keep an eye on me just because I'm stationary in the back lines."

Ferus nodded in agreement. "All the above is true; though I have had no experience acting as a ranged damage dealer, I have had my share of protecting those who were, and the ones who could protect themselves were the ones I enjoyed fighting aside the most. As for this one..." He lifted a gauntleted arm and pointed at Jocelyn. "Rare is the sniper who has mobility that a skirmisher would envy, and even more so when they have the ability to keep a team patched up even in the deepest of enemy lines. Treasure this one and keep her safe, and you will thank the stars when inevitably one gets injured.", causing the girl to blush from the teacher's praise.

Prism nods in response to Amane's salute, and then keeps nodding as a grin breaks out at Coco's compliment. "Can't deny you were effective out there, Amane!"

Turning back to the teacher and Jocelyn, Prism nods in response to the girl's thoughts. "It's a good point Jocelyn - we need to get good at finding their weak points and exploiting them as soon as possible, especially if we can start chaining attacks against grimm instead of working as individuals to cause damage. That's something to note. And it's always worth being aware of your surroundings, but we are around for a reason - if you ever need a boost, just give a holler. It's what my semblance is perfect for." However, as the Professor turns to compliment their healer, Prism's eyes widen slightly - even if she's wondering what the teammate's done to deserve the praise, it's not like the faunus can deny her importance "Hey, what he says is true you know. Most teams aren't lucky enough to even have a healer, so it's a wonder we have you in the first place. Our very own angel of the battlefield!"

The gentle smile directed towards Jocelyn is distracted by Amane's scientific babble, blinking as she digests what the young woman said. "Good plan to follow regarding Deathstalker, everyone take note of that. Regarding the incendiary grenade though, shorten the explanation, and maybe make it a tad easier for those of us who aren't as well-versed in chemistry to understand? There's no way we'd have time to piece that together in a battle."

Finishing answering everyone in turn, Prism pulls a lever on her glaive, and the staff begins to retract - switching back to it's primary form. "Okay then, here's our goals by the end of this thing: find a way to take out larger enemies like without the use of insane firepower, preferebly through exploitation of natural weaknesses, and most importantly doing it as a team. Sound good to everyone? I fully intend to make us the best team possible, and we can only do it through working together."

Cream mostly just batted his eyelashes at what was being said. To say that strategizing wasn't his strong suit would be putting it lightly. Attacking a grimm's weakpoints seemed easy enough in theory, but he wondered if he'd pull it off in practice - if it came to that, it might be more useful to switch OTN to it's shorter form so that he could recover from a whiff more easily. Either way, he'd have to cross that bridge when he got to it.

"Understood!" Coconut said at the end of Prism's speech, imitating Amane's earlier salute without realizing it. He still wasn't sure if he'd be any use against the larger, tougher grimm, but he'd certainly do his best, dang it!

"Well said, leader." Ferus commented, before his scroll beeped twice and he pulled it out. "The next wave is here. Prepare yourselves, Team CASA, and hold strong." he commanded, before heading back up the hill to his original position.

Thanks to the Beringel knocking down trees upon its entrance, the team could now see somewhat further into the treeline. What they would see would both bring them relief and anxiousness. On the one hand, there seemed to be no armored units as was previously discussed. On the other...what the enemy lacked in armor they more than made up in numbers. If any member peered down a scope they would see a pack of 10 Beowolves, in a random scattered pattern, led by a pair of Alpha Beowolves and a single Ursa Major, the armor on the Ursa being curiously absent. Behind the Beowolves ran a swarm of small Creeps, easily numbering 15. Once again, there seemed to be no pattern to their formation.

The entire wave was still some distance away. Team CASA would have the advantage of dealing the first blow from afar before any of the Grimm could even reach the hill.

 ● Ursa Major x 1

Changing out her clip yet again, Prism pulls down her flight goggles. Peering down the length of her scope, she thinks for a moment about what's charging them down - before nodding to herself. The first clip of her weapon is spent on individual creeps, five shots ringing out individually and hitting home as the Grimm explode into dust. "Everyone who's got a ranged weapon, focus on the little guys for now everyone, I don't want to be overwhelmed by the time they're up here! Coconut, just... defensive stance, start moving down the hill. I want to be ready to meet those bitches when they get here."

Prism reloads, before stepping off the side of the cliff and letting the wind catch her, before catching an updraft into the air again - going to hover about 10 meters overhead at the top of the hill.

Coconut is fully aware of how incredibly useful he is going to be until the creatures get closer. He nods at Prism's order, a slightly debauched grin on his face upon hearing her say 'bitches'. He strides down the hill, brandishing OTN. It seemed that his teammates were handling the smaller Grimm well - which meant he'd have to be prepared to deal with the alphas and the ursa major.

Well, at least he had gotten some time to rest there.

Deafening noise as Amane and Prism open fire on the shadows within the treeline, felling a few. For herself, Jocelyn lined up the head of a Beowolf, but somehow missed and headshot the Creep running behind it, causing her to mentally facepalm. Before she could reload, the Grimm were upon them already.

The rain of bullets from Amane and Prism, as well as the lacklustre support from Jocelyn, cut down a total of two Beowolves and seven Creeps, making a small dent in the wave, but the remainder of the Grimm...

They all dived straight on Coco. Every single one in range aggro-ed straight on the one target they could reach, determined to bring the Hunter-in-training down.

Okay, that was a stupid order in hindsight. "Amanedon'thitme!"

With only enough time to pop in a regular cartridge, Prism's dive is kickstarted by a shot in the opposite direction, the recoil throwing her forwards down the hill. Her wings only pop up right before she hits the ground, and she glides along before she reaches her target; practically bodyslamming Coco from behind as her arms lock around his waist as Hawk's Eye is thrown over her shoulder, wincing at the damage she takes - a massive updraft catching them both and throwing them skywards.

Unable to fire now, Prism only manages to get them both another 10 meters into the air - out of range of the Grimm below, but also unable to shoot now. Thankfully, this is literally what her wings are built for - Prism begins to slowly hover backwards up the hill, just managing to keep ahold of her teammate. "S-sorry about that Coconut, should have... thought that out some more. Couldn't let all the Grimm target you like that.."

Well, this was it. This was where Cream would have to show the world what he was made of. Gripping his sword tightly, he stared down the beasts charging at him with a look of defiance. Was he scared? Derfinitely. But a man is not made for not being afraid - he is made to face his fear and-

"Bwaa~" he yelped as something hit him from behind. Moments later, he was... Flying. For a moment, he had no idea what was happening - with that strike he felt before he was carried off, he felt like he might've actually died and gone to heaven. Upon hearing Prism's voice and realizing that she was holding him... Close enough.

He shook his head to fight off his dirty thoughts, making sure he was still holding hs sword. He then looked down, towards the group which was drawing closer to them once more. They'd be past them before they'd get to land unless they did something... Oh. Oh, he had an idea.

"Prism! Let go of me the moment that Ursa is just in front of us!" He called out to the girl holding him. He might have just figured out a way to deal with the tougher grimm - let gravity do the work for him.

As he was released, he spun his sword so that the tip was facing down. The attack was hardly sophisticated - he simply aimed his blade towards the Ursa Major's head and fell. This would put him in the thick of it again, but this time around he'd be the one doing the attacking - and the crowd had thinned out thanks to the rest of team, after all. He'd be fine.

Jocelyn watched nervously as the wave of Grimm poured forth, bearing the full might of their claws and fangs on the only person they could reach--one conveniently placed Coco. Drawing forth her reserves of Aura she mentally prepared for the snapback of her Semblance, before Prism thankfully delivered her from that pain by once again swooping in like the bird she was and plucking Coco out of the brawl, but not before both sustained some minor scratches.

Releasing some of her pent-up aura via her Semblance, she sent one healing round at Prism and another at Coco, before the latter was airdropped and became too fast for her to track. After that, she sent one more at Amane, who had somehow taken damage without her knowing it. But within seconds of firing, the aftereffects hit--agony scorched through her body from losing a large chunk of Aura in one go. Only by biting her lip and keeping her mouth tightly closed was she able to hide her whimper of pain from her team.

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [████-----] 57% (10% at Amane, 15% at Prism, 10% at Coco)
  ● 3/7 bullets in mag

The swarm of Grimm once surrounding Coco looked around at each other, trying to locate the once reachable hunter, before a strong emotion, irresistible to their minds, washed over the crowd. The pain that Jocelyn was feeling was almost tangible to the Grimm, who started barging each other out of the way as they started charging up the hill straight for the source of the emotions. The Ursa Major, being larger than the rest, was also naturally slower, so it lagged behind the group.

That's when Coco struck. Via the assistance of gravitational pull, he drove the blade so deep into the Ursa Major's unarmored neck that it was buried to the hilt, decapitating the Ursa in one blow. Even better, the remainder of the Grimm were still not in range to actually attack Coco. His plan had fully succeeded. Now he had to face the rest of the Grimm, while his team dealt with the ones on the hill.

TARGETS:
 ● Alpha Beowolves x 2

Prism nods to Coconut's words and drops him right in time, letting out a cheer as he decapitates the Ursa in one blow. The jolt from Jocelyn is a shock, suddenly feeling more energetic as her aura is restored to full - unloading her rifle from her shoulder and taking another couple shots at the remaining Beowolves, managing to take down another four with headshots before she needs to reload.

Turning to watch the remaining Grimm surge up the hill, she manages to catch that their path is leaning towards their healer - just why? Regardless, their leader remembers Ferus' words - and Jocelyn would feel a sudden updraft catching the air around her, practically encouraging her to extend her wings. "Jocelyn, let's get you up in the air! Think you can take off?"

Alright. That was awesome. Decapitating an ursa like that was satisfying as hell, even if his landing was a bit rough. However, he now had quite a bit more to deal with as the grimm which had fallen behind were drawing near. He'd have to hope the rest of the team could handle the group which had already ran past him - he wasn't going to catch them at this point.

Coco's other fight theme: を歌ってみた (Yobanashi Deceive) - Panaman/nqrse  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIuNE1bjQRs)

As such, Cream held his sword back once more, rushing down the middle of the hill towards the two grimm closest to him, a pair of beowolves. He went for an attack quite similiar to his opening one, though he needed much less force for this one as there were only two grimm. He had to kill them two in one swing if he wanted to catch the rest of these beasts, even if it meant exhausting himself further.

That soothing breeze of air...Jocelyn near-instinctively unfolded her wings, feeling the wind tugging gently on the wingspan and lifting her toward the sky. It wasn't enough to lift her whole weight, however, so she toggled her jumppack and rocketed upwards, soaring, for a short moment, even higher than Prism, before beginning her gliding descent downwards. Chambering another round into Hyacinth, she scoped in and fired at the Creep running uphill at the only remaining person on the hill--Amane.

"We might have to move Coco out of the way of the Grimm again!" she shouted across to Prism, aiming and shooting another Beowolf in the chest. Not enough to kill, but it stopped its forward momentum for a bit. "I'll prepare to get him!" After that, she started gliding closer, ready to drop in and evacuate if necessary.

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [████-----] 57%
  ● 1/7 bullets in mag

At such close ranges, Amane could not miss. Each bullet struck with pinpoint precision, dropping the two Alpha Beowolves with ease. Jocelyn's follow-up shot smacked the Creep flat against the floor with its impact. All three aggressors started floating away as Dust. Similarly, Coco's sword cleaved through the two Beowolves like a knife through butter, while Prism dealt with another group. What remained of the original swarm stopped and hesitated, having witnessed the efficiency of which their companions had been slaughtered.

"Sounds good!"

She yells the answer in Jocelyn's direction, and she'd notice a significant change in the wind - an updraft enough to keep her aloft, but more than easy enough to dive through. Reloading her rifle one final time, Prism takes aim at the remaining Grimm on the ground surrounding Coco. The four headshots easily hit home, and the remaining underlings quickly explode into whispy black remains.

And just as quickly as the fight had begun, it appeared to have briefly ended. Coconut lets out a sigh of relief as the last of the grimm fall - much quicker than he had expected. The girls had really made quick work of the things. As such, he lowers OTN and rests it blade against the ground, whistling.

"Man! We made quick work of those... ~bitches~, huh?" Cream asked, turning to face the others with a massive smile plastered on his face. He was still incredibly pleased with himself having taken down the ursa, though in the corner of his mind he notes that he would have been destroyed by the grimm if Prism wasn't there to save him. He owed her - and now noticing that his aura seemed to have been recovered, he realizes he owes Jocelyn just as much.

Before any evasive action had to be taken, Prism had swiftly dispatched the remaining Grimm. It seemed that even the most basic rules of warfare affected the Grimm too: any stationary target was easy pickings for snipers like her and Prism. Deciding to show off for once, she dived headfirst toward the top of the hill, executing a frontflip boosted by her jumppack before she landed, hard, kneeling on the floor beside Coco. "Language," she began jokingly, but quick and heavy footsteps cut her chain of thought short. For the first time on the mission, Professor Ferus wore an expression other than a blank face: concern.

"Team CASA, we have a problem." The professor scowled, gripping his lance tightly. "The scouts positioned in the forest have been discovered by the Grimm and are now under assault. Contrary to common sense, these people are not Hunters, simply soldiers with minor Aura training. The village cannot spare a team to infiltrate and evacuate the duo, so if any salvation is to come to them, it falls on us to carry out the duty." He broke off and glanced at his scroll, before continuing. "It has not escaped my attention that you are also holding off the waves of Grimm. To that extent, it is up to Miss Skylark, as the team's leader, to decide whether we can spare a strike team to retrieve the scouts. Should you do so, as a trained Huntsman I will be leading the assault, and upon successful retrieval we can expect additional help provided from the scouts." He looked directly at Prism, his eyes seemingly piercing though her.

"Choose wisely, Miss Skylark."

✮ BONUS OPTIONAL OBJECTIVE: Fight through and evacuate the duo of scouts, while simultaneously defending the village from assault

Prism meets his gaze with a steadfast hold, her expression surprisingly serious in response. She doesn't bother to think, instead immediately turning to her team. "This is what we signed up for, to save lives. I fully believe we're capable of holding off another wave of Grimm with only three people, and send someone with you Professor to assist in the recovery. However, this isn't my decision alone: if any of you feel doubt, now's the time to express it. Otherwise, I personally suggest we assist in the retrieval."

The faunus thinks for a moment, before turning back to Ferus again. "Professor, it's fairly obvious you're a frontline brawler - what type of backup would you prefer? Furthermore, would you mind explaining your semblance?"

The professor doesn't hesitate for a second. "Ranged. A ranged ally is a tank's second best choice for a partner in combat." he explains. Unlike before, however, doubt flits across his face swiftly before being erased from his expression. With the professor stepping away from the group, Jocelyn notices a grimace before a translucent, light grey circular field springs into being, expanding 10 meters in every direction around Ferus. It does nothing to impede vision, nor does there seem to be anything different within the field...

"My semblance, He Who Stands Alone, is straightforward. If no living being, Human or Faunus, is within the field I generate, every combat attribute, be it strength, speed, stamina, or reaction speed, is increased sevenfold for a duration of time." he states. Raising his gunlance over his head as if it was made of cardboard, he slammed it into the floor, splitting the ground with a fissure like the ones seen in earthquakes, before hurling it like a spear at the nearest tree, the sharp blade and blunt barrel easily smashing through the sizeable trunk.

Coconut stood with his mouth agape as he watched the professor show off his semblance. Such raw power, power Cream could only dream of ever having - all his semblance did was switch some colors around. He was as impressed as he was upset.

He did, however, agree with Prism: "We need to go save them, that's for sure... If you want ranged help, Amane's probably your best choice," Coco said with a genuine smile. He recognized the girl's ability in combat, especially her ability to adapt. "I think we've proven we can handle ourselves, too!"

"I think I would be best suited to stay behind to help defend the village," Jocelyn admits. "So I agree, Amane's the best choice for this sort of mission.". She fiddled with her first-aid pack, seemingly concerned by something. "Amane, if the scouts end up injured, could you give me as best of a description as you can over your scroll? I don't want them to die of their wounds just because I decided to stay behind. My conscience couldn't bear it." she said, desperately trying to think of something else that she could help with, ultimately drawing two medicinal needles and two small canisters of liquid out of her pack and passing them to Amane. "These are shots of morphine, to act as painkillers. Just shoot the full dose into their arm if they are needed." she instructed.

Prism grins as nearly everyone speaks in agreement - perfect. "Good idea Jocelyn. Then if there's no objections, I'm going to recommend Amane to you professor. She's ridiculously adaptable, so she'll suit whatever you meet. Also, make sure to keep us updated on your coordinates and let us know when you have the scouts - we can probably provide backup if necessary." Turning to Amane, she gives the woman a grin alongside the same two-finger salute she gave Prism earlier. "Rep us well out there, and good luck."

Ferus, having retrieved his gunlance and holstering it on his back, nodded in approval. "Depending on the amount of Grimm we run into, we could be a while. In which case, we will notify you via Scroll, or in case of other scenarios, I will send up a coloured flare. Red indicates we are at the target, yellow indicates Grimm. If for whatever reason you see a orange flare, send word to Beacon for professional backup and retreat immediately. An orange flare will mean a threat level far beyond your capabilities to fight." He turned to stride down the hill, beckoning Amane to join him. At the base of the hill he turned back. "Good luck, Team CASA." before disappearing into the woods, the huntress-in-training close behind.

The forest, as expected, was dense enough to impede both sight and sun, somewhat limiting vision of the two Hunters. Despite that, the natural beauty of the greenery was in full force, lush leaves and vibrant flowers scattered here and there on the floor. The thick layer of orange and browned leaves on the floor made for soft and silent footing, ideal for hunting. However, this also meant that the duo couldn't hear footsteps apart from their own.

With the pair vanishing into the forest, the remaining members of Team CASA settled into their defensive position on the hill, eyes peeled for any enemies. Soon enough, the ominous black color of the Grimm would be visible to all on the hill. Except it wasn't in the forest.

It was in the air.

A flock of small Griffons, still too far to count, were heading in the team's direction, led by one of their members' worst nightmares.

As quoth the raven..."Nevermore".

As her teammates settle into the ground, Prism automatically kicks into the air, rising nearly 30 meters before settling into a hover with Hawk's Eye tucked into her shoulder. Peering down the scope, she's able to see the oncoming flock in the distance. "Incoming! Looks like a flock of griffons, led by-.

She doesn't finish the sentence.

The leader of team CASA freezes, stuck staring down the scope of her rifle as she involuntarily tracks the Nevermore. It's as big as she remembers, maybe moreso, it's been nearly 5 years - scattered redyellowpink feathers, matted with blood covering it's beak -  her father plucked out of the air - nothing but wind, wind and more windwindwind -

The howling can be temporarily heard in the distance for the briefest of seconds, before the the winds hit. Buffeting the area at over 115 miles an hour, the hurricane-equivalent winds are sustained for a full five seconds before dying down. Prism is literally slammed out of the air before she can even take a shot, sent flying head-over-tailfeathers a good distance before crashing into the forest, too far from view to properly see. Anything within the immediate front lines that isn't completely secured in the ground (and likely a few things that are) are going to receive the brunt of the winds.

Flying grimm... Crap. Coconut was an on-the-ground fighter through and through. Jocelyn and Prism were both ranged combatants as well as fliers, so they wouldn't have much of an issue, but Coconut was a bit worried that some would inevitably get past them. If only there was some way to attract them to the ground...

His train of thought was derailed as a hurricane strikes his body, casting the boy aside and crashing him into the ground. Cream raises his head up to see Prism sailing over them, crashing into the treeline.

"PRISM!" The boy yells out in an attempt to overpower the winds. He finally gets back up on his feet, only throwing Jocelyn a quick glance before running off towards the forest. "We have to go get her!" he shouts back.

He didn't know what had just happened, but he knows it was bad. Prism's semblance was wind, but something had caused it to go haywire. The boy had a nasty suspicion that the grimm would be all to eager to take advantage of it - but they wouldn't have the chance if he could help it.

If Amane looked closely, she would see the smallest crack of a smile before Ferus responded. "The age-old strategy of the brawlers: charge in headfirst and suffer injuries that could otherwise have been avoided by simply exercising some degree of restraint and holding back. No, Miss Petrichor, while I may be a brawler, I am also a Grimm specialist. It is far easier to let the Grimm rush me and break themselves on my defence than vice versa. And if you are unfortunate, you may get to see that in action." He stretched to loosen his muscles, before continuing. "The saying of 'offence is the best defence' is familiar to you, I am sure, but years of experience in the field has given me evidence to counteract that argument. In time, all Hunters learn that fact one way or another. Pray that yours does not come the hard way."

Jocelyn had just scoped in to try and count the flock of Griffons. With Amane gone, their firepower was severely reduced, so a pre-emptive strike would be crucial in order to attain victory...

At least, that's what her mind was thinking, before the strongest winds she had ever felt picked her up and tossed her like a rag doll against the trunk of a nearby tree, eliciting a yelp of surprise and pain. "Prism, what......"

Noticing the predicament at the same time that Coco did, she triggered her jumppack at full force, blasting off the tree at the highest speed she could go, before landing at the edge of the forest, unsure of their next move. "We don't know where she is, and there's still the Grimm in the sky!" she yelled back, mind racing to think up a solution.

Wings, check.

Arms, check.

Legs, check.

Prism blinks as she comes back to reality, slowly testing her position from within the tree. The world's upside-down, the last thing she remembers is being hit by a bus, somehow, in the air - right, fuck. Wind. Hawk's Eye is still firmly cradled again her, based on the strap digging into her shoulder. With extreme gentleness, Prism begins to pull herself out from the wreckage of the tree.

What had happened? Looking down the scope of Hawk's Eye, flock of Griffons, led by -

Nevermore. Memories. Wind.

Prism visibly shivers.

There's still Grimm in the air. Her team's out there, leaderless and down a member. They're a melee fighter and a healer against ranged enemies, it's your fault you left them helpless to a flock of Griffons and a -

That shiver has progressed to a barely-there continuous shake. Looking overhead, the flock overhead is still visible - there's a couple of griffons still in the air, flying headlong towards the village.

Do something.

Prism pulls herself to the feet on her branch. Pop the cartridge on Hawk's Eye. Replace with one that's bright yellow, a thunderbolt painted onto the side. Take aim at a Griffon above, fire a shot, leap off the branch with a brief burst of your wings and fly to the next tree. Take another shot. Wings, leap. Tree. Take a shot. Wings, leap. Tree. Take a shot. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat repeat repeatrepeatrepeat. Don't think to hard about what happened, otherwise you'll attract more Grimm. The way feathers danced against firelight, blood-splattered beaks nipped at fragile fathers, the way the word "run" was mouthed -

Wings, leap. Tree. Take a shot. Get back to the team. Get back to the team.

By the treeline at the base of the hill, Jocelyn and Coco would be able to hear the sounds of a sniper rifle firing as bright little bullets streak through the sky, aimed for the flock above. Where ever Prism is, she's still alive, and more importantly still shooting.

Forgoing most of his regular detection abilities, Ferus resolutely forged ahead, aiming for the last known coordinates of the scouts. If they were surrounded by the Grimm, the best plan for them would be to hole up in the outpost and wait for rescue, which was what he was banking on. If they were not, that would both make finding and defending them that much harder--

"Psst," a voice whispered. "Over here." While he wasn't pinging his Aura off anything that did, Amane would have detected them much earlier. Upon pinging his own aura, Ferus found the pair hiding in a surprisingly well-built and camouflaged shelter.

"What was that wind, dude?" one of the scouts asked, a middle-aged nondescript man holding a oddly thick spear. "Didn't know Grimm could create gusts that large." The other, much older guard spoke up too, a large metal tube on his back. "Before we left our outpost to start running, we spotted a swarm of Lancers, led by their Queen, heading our way. If we don't move, we'll have them on our tail real soon."

Jocelyn had to admire Prism's tenacity--even with something going horribly wrong the girl was still fighting hard. It might have been her imagination, but it sounded as if the gunshots were gradually coming closer, too. From the readings on her scope her Aura hadn't gone down much either. She could only hope Prism was alright.

"Coco, cover me! I'm targeting and firing!" she shouted, dropping to one knee and raising the barrel of Hyacinth to the sky, aiming for the giant Nevermore that was now in range. In a flurry of movement, she unloaded her entire clip on the head and neck of the Nevermore, aiming to at the very least deter it from coming closer.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn's inferior shots peppered the thick hide of the Nevermore, not even garnering a reaction other than it pulling up and raining a hail of razor-sharp feathers on the duo at the edge of the forest. The remainder of the Griffons stayed in the air, circling like vultures patiently waiting for their prey to die.

As the flashbang flies into the air, Prism glances over - neither orange or red, they're okay for now. However, the rain of feathers pouring down on her teammates is a different story, especially from the -

The tremble in the small woman's muscles is more noticable, and she's trying to clench them to prevent the subtle shake to her frame, but it's failing miserably. Her breathing is noticeably heavier as well, and she's trying to hold her breath to prevent hyperventilating - with, well, failed results. At the sight of the feathers raining down on where her teammates would be, the wind kicks up around Prism automatically, and the rises above the treeline to catch her on breeze on autopilot - just in time for the Griffons to divebomb her.

There's nothing that they'll meet but more bullets. A new yellow-colored cartridge is popped in, and she turns over to fly backwards through the air, managing to down two before aiming at the third. The leader of team CASA is unaware she's yelling, more focused on keeping the feelings of panic contained - "Come on, you feathered fucktards! Let's see if you taste like chicken or horse!" To her credit, she knows what chicken tastes like - she only knows about the latter from the horse faunus she dated that one time.

Well, there's no doubt that Prism is within shouting distance now, at least.

Well, that entire plan sort of... Flopped. Completely. The grimm were clearly more interested in something else - or, rahter, someone else. Prism, who he could hear yelling somewhere in the near distance. He'd have ran in to find her if he wasn't worried about Jocelyn - and with good reason, apparently.

As the Nevermore prepared its attack, Cream didn't hesitate, not for a moment. He jumped in front of their medic, stabbing OTN into the ground in front of himself. He gritted his teeth as the feathers rained over him, one or two dinging against his blade while many more sliced into him. There was no way, however, that Jocelyn wasn't low on aura by now. Keeping her safe was more important.

Coconut moaned quietly before straightening out his back and pushing his glasses up, his thumb and index finger on either side of the rim. "A-any ideas on h-how we can take that thing down?"

Ferus nodded, unslinging his gunlance from his back and letting it unfold to its full length. He let Amane, then the two scouts walk a fair distance from him, before following suit, having put enough distance between them to activate his Semblance. While he walked, he sent up the red flare, to alert the remainder of the team that they had achieved their objective and were returning.

Before the group had gotten far, both Amane and Ferus would be alerted to multiple Grimm heading their way from their Aura detection. As the scouts had reported, it was a swarm led by one huge Grimm, though they had no way of knowing if it truly was the Queen Lancer and her swarm. Knowing Amane would be prepared, Ferus turned to face the source of the threat, loading an Electric Dust crystal into Grimm Repetoire, before bringing his Semblance to life, the field springing up around him.

Alerted by Ferus's actions, the two scouts also prepared for combat, instinctively staying out of the circle. The scout with the tube set it on the floor and unfolded a set of metal supports, revealing its true purpose as a mortar, while the other stabbed his spear into the ground, where the thick metal pole unfolded like a umbrella, revealing multiple blades hidden within the shaft. Uncannily like a true Huntsman's weapon...

Squeezing her eyes shut and bracing for the impact, Jocelyn waited for her Aura to be further depleted. When the damage never came, she opened her eyes and gasped at the sight of Coco acting as a human shield for her. Just like her brother...

Without hesitation, she ejected the now empty clip from Hyacinth, watching it gradually glow purple in her hand, before tenderly placing it on Coco's chest and directly transferring her Aura into his body. But at this distance, there was no way to hide the resulting pain, and even turning away Coco would easily notice the distress she was in. Still kneeling on the ground, she forced out "I might be able to get you up to that Nevermore, Coco...but to do so I need Prism's winds..."

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [███------] 30% CRITICAL (17% to Coco)

The Nevermore hovered, seemingly waiting for its prey to make its next move. When it didn't, its attention was attracted by the loud outburst of shouting from Prism, along with the rest of the flock. The Griffon that had finished its strafing run was coming around for another pass, with the remainder of the flock noticing the noise.

Ferus's red flare, however, had the unintended effect of drawing the attention of two of the Griffons, so there would be less of them attacking the team. Despite this, there was still a few, with the Nevermore leaving Prism behind and entering a steep glide, heading toward Coco and Prism.

Prism can see it diving in the distance. She was useless the first time around. Despite the shake to her form, there's a certain set to Prism's face - she isn't losing anybody else to one of those beasts.

Prism pulls a lever, and Hawk's eye transforms into it's secondary for the second time in the battle. A red cylinder, obviously fiilld with dust, is pulled out her pocket before inserting it into the back of the blade of the glaive. Wincing as she narrowly avoids the Griffon's second divebomb, albeit taking damage, the rest of the lighting rounds left in her rifle are used trying to get rid of the beast chasing her. It's with the final burst of wind she throws herself ahead of the creature - and for the first time since she disappeared, bursts through the treeline so her teammates could finally see her.

There's a click as Prism twists something near the head of her glaive, before the entirety of the blade lights on fire. Swiping it through the air several times, three crescent-shaped waves of flames roll off it - and buoyed by her winds, continuing to grow in size as they fly through the air towards the Nevermore. It won't be enough to kill it by far, but it'll hopefully be enough to deter it from it's dive, giving Prism just enough time to yell  - "Scramble! Both of you take cover in the treeline, now!"

That's about the last coherent thing Prism manages to get out, before her wings promptly give out - she hits the ground hard, just managing a few shaky steps into the treeline. She's leaning against a tree, using the staff of Hawk's Eye to keep her up - but it's not enough, and she hits the ground on her knees as her entire body begins to quake. She's hyperventilating as her hands fist in the grass, and there's tears streaming down her face - the panic attack has officially hit.

Any Grimm in the area would notice the little bundle of panic and terror grouped beneath the treeline.

Coco blushed, his eyes widening quite a bit as Jocelyn placed the clip onto his chest. The reinvigoration felt nice, but he immediately felt guilty as Jocelyn was clearly in pain. He frowned.

"Jocelyn, you can't exert yourself like that. My aura is doin' just fine, thanks to you - don't heal me for the rest of the fight. Don't want you getting hurt." He said, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. He then nodded at her plan. "Sounds like an idea, we just have to find -"

At this point, Prism launched out from the forest and into their sights. She seemed to be in bad shape all around. "Whu- You heard her, Jocelyn!" He called out. Coconut saw the girl collapse on her knees in the treeline - she must have overexerted herself. Crap.

Cream ran over to their team leader, trying to help her get deeper into the treeline so that she wouldn't be a prime target for the Nevermore, OTN in one hand in case the griffons think to dive at them. At this point, he notices Prism's tears. "P-prism? What happened?"

Before the group could do so, the sound of beating wings could be heard--not from one but two directions, one beating much faster than the other. Seconds later, the unknown Grimm weaved through the trees--it was indeed the Lancers the scouts were talking about, but there was no sight of the Queen. Simultaneously the two Griffons attracted by Ferus's flare landed amidst the group in a cloud of disturbed leaves, in between Amane and the scouts.

Before the Lancers could fire their stingers, Ferus lifted his gunlance and activated the secondary firing chamber, electricity arcing and crackling at the nearest Lancers, some of which fell to the floor due to paralysis while others just exploded. At the same time, the distinct thump of the mortar could be heard as a projectile sailed past Ferus and exploded in the crowd of Grimm, ice shards flying everywhere and impaling a few. The remainder pulled up and fired their stingers at Ferus, which he evaded with the kinetic boost from his armor. Meanwhile, the other scout pulled twin swords from the spear/stand and turned to face the two Griffons, one of the birds lunging at Amane.

Ferus's Combat Log:
   ● Aura: [██████████] 100%
       ● Tube 2: 80/100 Electric Dust

 ● Lancers x 20 14 (3 immobile on floor)
 ● Griffons x 2

Battle Log:
 ● Lunge (4%) on Amane

Jocelyn's head jerked up at the sound of Prism's voice, automatically following orders and expending the remainder of her jumppack's Dust to get herself into the treeline. Not a second too late as a three literal arcs of fire fly straight toward the Nevermore, striking it directly and causing it to emit a horrible screech. Only then did she notice their team leader's distress, her emotions a sinking wreck. She recognised the symptoms of a panic attack from the hyperventilation, tears and spiking heartbeat instantly, and it took her a few seconds to identify the source of the panic--it wasn't the Griffons because she was able to say their name, which left only one source. It must have been a strong one too, to cause her Semblance to go haywire.

The most important thing now was to stop the panic attack and get Prism in shape, or at least on her feet. For that, Jocelyn had crafted an idea based on previous reactions and current resources. "Coco, I have a plan to help her--please try and keep the Nevermore as well as the Griffons away from Prism for as long as you can!"

Jocelyn's wings unfold, though not to fly--a cloud of steam starts to form, wrapping around both her and Prism in a smoky ball and blocking all outside sight from the interior, as well as vice versa. Next, she reached into her pack and retrieved two small Ice Dust crystals that fit easily in her palm. After all that, she mentally prepares herself and gathers Prism up in a motherly embrace, tender and soft as a marshmallow, resting Prism's head on her chest and letting the tears from her eyes soak into her clothing. At the same time, she pulses her Semblance and channels it through the Ice Dust in her palms, intending on bolstering the reinvigorating sensations with a cooling, soothing wave as an attempt to get Prism to notice that she has help. This she directed into Prism's back in rubbing motions, being careful not to make contact with Prism's wings.

Even with the slow application, the now excruciatingly low Aura reserves lash back harder and harder, forcing Jocelyn to hold back her own tears--not of fear but of pain--in order to heal both Prism's mental and physical state. Soon enough, though, her body is pushed to its physical limit, and she slowly topples to one side, her Aura all but drained and her mind nearly unconscious from the drain. The steam cloud slowly starts to rise--whatever Jocelyn has done will be for naught if their cover fully vanishes.

Jocelyn's Combat Log:
  ● Aura: [█---------] 5% CRITICAL (25% to Prism)
  ● Jumppack: Dust expended
  ● Mental State: Near unconsious

The massive surge of emotions coming from one focal point attracts the Griffons like bees to nectar, and they dive straight for Coco in an attempt to reach this delectable feast. The Nevermore, however, is deterred by the flames and does not pursue, instead opting to land on the top of the hill and pluck at the feathers that have caught fire.

TARGETS:
 ● Giant Nevermore x 1
 ● Griffons x 3

Battle Log:
 ● Dive (4% x 3) on Coco

"You got it!" Coconut called out in response to Jocelyn, readying his blade for combat with both of his hands. With the corner of his eye, the boy spotted the steam enveloping the two. He looked up and watched the griffons circling one last time before swooping down at him.

The beasts were all coming at him at once, and they were fast. Coconut only had time for one swing, and he had to make it count. The boy counted down the seconds as the grimm drew closer to him, before swinging in a wide arc intended to meet the beasts with equal force - he was hoping to decapitate at least two. However, waiting until the last second left him a bit vulnerable, forcing him back as two of the beasts did in fact crash into him.

Blood. Scattered feathers. The sound of wind howling through the trees and a steel box clutched so tightly against her form it left bruises that would last until the following week. Prism's so physically caught-up in the replay of her memories that she doesn't even notice Jocelyn's actions until the steam cloud as enveloped them both, and Jocelyn's wrapped her arms around her.

"Wha- J-j-jocelyn, I..." is all she manages to stutter out, before the dam breaks - and her arms wrap around the woman in turn, the silent tears streaming down her face being pressed into Jocelyn's blouse as the medic holds her. She stays there for a moment silently hiccuping, before the first wave of calm literally washes over her - enough to startle her so she stops crying. Her face stays pressed into Jocelyn's shoulder as she murmurs silent thanks as the waves of calm continue, literally feeling crystal-clear clarity break down the rapid-fire memories - at least until Jocelyn begins to topple to one side.

"Wait, J-jocelyn? Josie? Ah, fuck -" Prism manages to support her wait as she flops to the side, bracing her she doesn't hit the ground with a harsh thump and more lays herself across Prism's lap. The leader stares in worry for a moment, a hand tracing the woman's neck until she finds her pulse point - okay, she's alive, just completely down for the count. Hearing the sounds of battle outside their little shroud of steam, Prism glances back before untying the jacket around her waist and bundling it up to place under Jocelyn's head, reaching for her glaive with the other. "Sorry." Is all she murmurs, before Prism stands up.

There's a click as the blade of the glaive is lit on fire again, using what little fire dust is contained in the cylinder to set it alight. With a rapid turn, and a burst of her wings, Prism leaps from the steamcloud - bringing the blade of the weapon down across two Griffons in a wide slash, hoping to help deter them off Coco.

"Coconut, Jocelyn's down for the count! Priority now is to get her shelter, we're going to need to fight our way back up the hill. Understand me?" Prism's tone is steely determination, any traces of panic completely gone - there's nothing left for the Grimm to be attracted to.

The combined AoE of all the damage sent in the Lancers direction obliterated the swarm in one fell swoop, while Amane's quick action dispatched the two Griffons before the scout could take action. Obediently following her instructions the two scouts packed up their weapons with remarkable efficiency and continued on their way while Ferus stayed stationary, his field dropping but his Aura pulsing even further than before. It would be a good half minute before he started walking again.

Within another minute of uninterrupted movement, the group would see the edge of the forest and hear, faintly, the sounds of battle. The group would emerge about 100 meters of where the team was, which was close enough to both see the fight and the giant Nevermore perched on the hill like it was its nest, still grooming itself. Upon seeing the newcomers, the Nevermore would take flight, easily reaching heights higher than what Prism could achieve.

Meanwhile, even with the damage Coco had taken, his sword swing killed two Griffons in one clean stroke, while Prism's blazing blade dealt with the remainder. All that remained was to reclaim their hill from the Nevermore and protect Jocelyn at the same time, who was now completely unconscious. It would be at this time that Prism and Coco could see the other group return with the two scouts.

"Understood!" the boy responded just as the other group came into sight. "Oh, hey, looks like we're all here now! Just in time, too!"

Cream then looked towards the beast currently soaring through the skies. He frowned. As a melee combatant, he was entirely useless against flying creatures like this - but with it circling around the hill and Jocelyn as hurt as she is, there was no way to guarantee their safety if they tried to run past it towards the hill. If only there was some way for him to get to the thing. Prism could only ever carry him so high...

He glanced towards Amane, a foolhardy plan forming in his caveman brain. "Hey, Amane, do you have any explosives which you'd say could feasibly launch someone? Not sure how high it'd have to be..." He said, almost muttering the last part just to himself.

The arrival of the Professor, Amane, and the two newcomers gains a nod of acknowledgement from Prism as she moves to back to the prone form of Jocelyn, kneeling down next to her to start to drag her into a sitting position against a tree. "Professor, Amane - it's good to see you guys got back safe, alongside the strike team. You unfortunately missed some things, as Jocelyn's completely down and out for what I'm assuming is the remainder of the mission via overexertion. She's at-" There's a beat as Prism checks her scroll. "5% aura, so it's a priority to assure she's not hit or injured. We're going to need to retreat back up the hill, but there's a slight problem in the form of, well..." The faunus gestures upwards.

"Let me politely request we refer to the thing above as 'it' or 'the feathered fuck', as it's actual name is something of a hurricane-inducing problem for me. As much as I hate to say I'm practically useless against that thing, so we're going to need another plan of action if we don't want to be divebombed and risk endangering Jocelyn. I have a somewhat-doable plan and a very stupid plan based on what we want to do - though it'll all depend on what you two are packing, that is." She gestures to the two scouts, hopefully prompting them to introduce themselves.

The professor crossed over to where Jocelyn lay, blacked out, under a tree, and quickly ran a check over her to determine her physical condition. Her Aura was clearly at the edge of depletion, the layer over her skin unsteady and pockmarked with holes, yet she showed no signs of actual injury. While he dearly wished to be able to ask her how she was able to do such a feat, it would have to wait since she obviously couldn't respond.

The next problem was the Nevermore--or, as Prism referred to it, "the feathered fuck"--something to do with her history, as he had read in her report. He was surprised that the team leader wasn't losing her mind from her PTSD, but it was also for the better since they were already one member down. Despite his instincts telling him to help out, he was under orders not to interfere with their battles. Only the scouts could help out--

Even with the Nevermore's looming presence, anyone who was in any state of alert would now detect two additional entities homing in toward their direction. Even if they weren't, they would hear the cracking and rumbling of trees being snapped and pushed to one side, as well as the sound of high-pitched humming, familiar to both Amane and Ferus but much louder and much, much quicker. At the same time, everyone's scrolls vibrated at the same time with the same message: -Evacuation almost complete. The first Bullheads are taking off now. If one looked toward the village, they would see the first of the Bullheads poking above the village walls, making a racket loud enough to be heard even at the treeline.

The Nevermore, still in flight, seemed to be torn between diving for the Hunters down the hill or striking down the Bullheads with a volley of its razor feathers before it could flee. At the same time, the body of a gigantic insect blocked out the sun, casting a shadow upon the group and revealing itself to anyone who turned to look as the Queen Lancer, aforementioned by the scouts. Even that was not the end of it, as the heavily armored pincers of a giant Death Stalker snapped around the trunks of two nearby trees like it was weeding a garden, leaving a swathe of tree trunks in its wake, while its amber-colored stinger swung around like a pendulum on its equally armoured tail.

The team was surrounded on all sides, with nowhere to run to.

OBJECTIVES:
  - Do not let any Grimm destroy any Bullheads
  - Do not let either Grimm into the village
  - Survive until the evacuation concludes, then evacuate safely

TARGETS:

   ● Queen Lancer x 1
   ● Giant Death Stalker x 1

Glancing up reveals the massive, bloated body of a Queen Lancer hovering over the group of hunters. The... the... thing is still somewhere overhead, and a Death Stalker just crashed through the trees. Jocelyn's unconscious, the only sharpshooter in the group who could hit either of the flying targets is useless against one and on her way to the second panic attack, and now everyone's surrounded.

Fucking great.

At least the Bullheads are starting to take off.

The first thing that happens is the empty cylinder of fire dust is popped, rapidly replaced by one of white dust. Swiping her glaive in the direction of the Death Stalker, three massive crescents fly out towards the creature; buoyed by sharp winds, they're aimed to drive ice spikes up into the creature and hopefully by them enough time to do - well, something. This is before the glaive is flipped around, ad the end of the staff is aimed upwards towards the Queen Lancer -two shots fire off as Prism immediately tries to blind the creature. "Amane, we need a distraction with the feathery fuck, it's going to attack the Bullheads! Then when you get the chance, shove whatever fire-related paraphenalia up the thing’s ass, or cloaca, or whatever it has and detonate at will! Coconut, help me move Jocelyn, we need to get her to a more defensible position. You two-" She takes a moment to point to the two scouts. "Help with the Death Stalker and Lancer, they're more immediate right now! Professor, if you feel the particular urge to kill anything, it'd be appreciated!"

Coconut had taken the rifle from Amane, though he hadn't really provided much cover - he didn't want to risk it. He didn't know how to operate a bread maker, so a gun was out of his league by miles. He glanced over and watched in amazement as Amane assembled the bomb. Its purpose was clear - she appeared to have understood his suggestion.

It was in that moment that everything got worse.

Cream's eyes widened as both the queen lancer and the deathstalker made their appearances. The Nevermore already had their hands full, but now this? Well, good news was it seemed that the bullheads were finally taking off, and that the scouts were prepared to help out. Bad news was... Everything else.

He swallowed any fear he was feeling and nodded at Prism's orders, handing Amane her rifle back before taking hold of OTN again. He hurried to Jocelyn, choosing to lift the girl up and shoulder carry her towards the treeline, as far away from the monsters surrounding them as was feasible.

"If we can get the nuh- feathered fuck to come down, I... think we got a pretty good shot!" The boy called out once their healer was in relative safety. He then looked towards the rest of the battle - the only target he could easily get to would be a death stalker, but without a way to get through its armor, he did not like his odds.

"P-prism, if your very stupid plan is at all similar to the stupid plan in my head, I-I think we should go for it." He added as he looked up at the beast still flying above them menacingly.

The two scouts seem ready to jump into action, but they still hold position, looking back toward Ferus as if waiting for his command. The professor himself seems conflicted, ready to counter if attacked but not moving. This remains the situation for several precious seconds before he steels himself, his face showing determination. "Restrictions removed, lads. I'll take the responsibility for this. Don't worry about reporting back to Beacon. I won't stand by and let more injuries occur under my guidance."

The two scouts salute, before a strong rush of Aura is detected from the pair and they rush into battle against the Death Stalker, who batted the ice spikes away with a swipe of its claw. Amane's trap works perfectly--the Death Stalker walks over the incendiaries and the flames scorch its underside, causing a screech of pain. It staggers but doesn't go down, and in the next moment the two scouts are attacking the Death Stalker, the mortar launching shell after shell of Ice Dust while the other scout distracts it with twin swordplay.

Amane's bullets punch holes through the Queen Lancer's wings, though it shows no sign of having taken damage. It rears up and fires its massive barbed stinger at Amane, retracting it after it either hits the target or the ground. Prism's own bullets do equally little, and miss their mark--its vision remains unimpared.

The Nevermore made up its mind to engage the person who lit its plumage on fire, and threw another barrage of feathers toward the group from where it was hovering on the hill. Any that would have originally hit Prism, however, are blocked by the shield of the professor, who stood in front to cover the girl from the feathers. "Beacon gave me orders not to interfere...unless the situation was dire. Even if they don't see it as dire, I believe you have proved yourselves already. Allow me."

Prism visibly flinches as feathers rain down, staring in horror as they embed themselves into the ground - but offers the professor a nod of thanks. Visibly tightening her grip around the staff of her glaive until her knuckles turn white, the small girl takes an unsteady breath. Hold it together Prism. At least until - right, Coco. She offers her team member and unsteady grin as she hears Amane's explosives go off, brutalizing the Death Stalker. "T-think those kinetic grenades can g-get you up there? We'll n-need something you can ride up on so the blast won't hurt, and I can make this kinda shot - and also catch you on the way back down, too."

As Amane works away at the Queen Lancer, Prism moves to help her out - the regular cartridge within her glaive is swapped out as it turns back into it's rifle form, popping in a cartridge colored blue. Steadying her aim by pulling the butt of the rifle tight to her shoulder, she takes aim again - sending two ice-tipped bullets flying towards the bloated bug's head, preferably blinding it, at least somewhat.

Well, this was going to sting a bit.

Coconut could only block so many of the feathers heading his way, three managing to strike his less protected sides and legs. He winced, but stood his ground, raising his weapon once more. He then paused for a moment, before lifting the blade up and smashing it intoa somewhat sturdy looking branch above him. After doing so twice, he manages to lob it off.

"Dunno of it'll carry me, but it's gonna have to!" he calls out as he pulls his transportation device slightly up the hill. He's getting a bit winded now, but if this works, they'll all have earned a good rest. He then looks up at the bird, then back to his team. He takes a deep breath and strides further up the hill. His plan is simple, really - if he heads this way, the bird will probably want to defend the hill which it had been perched on earlier. That's what Coco would do if he was a bird, anyway.

Then, he'd have to run back before the bird ate him. Seemed simple enough.

"You guys ready?" he asked, his face betraying every bit of fear and doubt going through his mind at that moment. But well... If there was ever a time to show off, this was it.

The nevermore lets out a piercing shriek, then begins a dive toward the now exposed Coco, aiming to simply ram its entire body weight into the boy and flatten him like a steamroller. Its mind registers the tree branch and the odd-looking device, but it's too primitive to know what it's used for or what consequences it may bring.

Feeling that its stinger had missed, the Queen Lancer started retracting the barb, unaware that a unwelcome object had been attached to it during the vulnerable time it had been away from its body. It wasn't until the stinger was fully inside the body did the throwing star explode, blowing chunks of its body up and causing it to make a nightmare-inducing noise. The pain distracted it from Prism's Ice Dust bullets, bringing shards of ice to life in front of its eyes and blocking vision, causing it to flutter haphazardly. Lastly, the grappling spike from Ferus's shield is fired, piercing deep into the Queen Lancer's abdomen, before the professor gives one giant heave and brings the whole Grimm to the floor. It vibrates its wings in an attempt to elevate itself, but the spike keeps it grounded for now. The five-round burst thuds into the thorax section, further amplifying the damage already racked up on the Grimm.

The Death Stalker, already on death's door from the incendiaries, was in the process of having every single limb on its body frozen to the floor via the liberal applications of Ice Dust from the mortar. The extra bullets stuck the stinger's attachment point but didn't manage to dislocate the whole thing completely.

Huzzah! The plan had worked!

...oh, crap. The plan had worked.

Cream 'eeped' before turning tail and running back towards the branch. The Nevermore was definitely going after him, which should make the rest of the plan rather easy. Well, about as easy as getting blown up and launched onto a massive flying bird beast could be. He ran over and grabbed hold of the branch, lifting the back end to allow for the explosive to lift it into the air once it went off.

"Blow me!" He shouted as the grimm got closer and closer to where he was standing. With the other grimm mostly dealt with, he'd now have to rely on his teammates for liftoff. If things go awry... well, he chose not to think about it too much.

Prism freezes at the Nevermore's cry, her spine going ramrod-straight; the tears are starting to visibly budding on her eyes again, her small form shaking. Falling feathers, highlighted by fire - but the body of the Queen Lancer slamming into the ground distracts her enough to make her jump, pulling her out of the beginning of the panic attack, and to hear Coco yell - well, that was rude.

"A-amane, detonate!" The small faunus manages to shriek the words, getting them out with only something of stutter - and thankfully spotting one last chance to be useful. With shaking hands, a vial of yellow-charged dust is withdrawn from her pants pocket, inserted into the back of Hawk Eye's blade - and with one final burst of strength and a strong updraft, gains enough ground to take over the Queen Lancer's head. With a twist of the neck of the glaive, the blade cackles to life with electricity, and Prism fires off a shot from the end of her rifle - aiming to drive the blade deep into the unarmored part on the back of the Lancer's head.

With force unexpected from a person her size, the blow from Prism drives Hawk's Eye deep into the back of the Queen Lancer's head, splitting flesh, bone and cartilage to penetrate deep into the skull of the Grimm. It flails and thrashes, but eventually stills and starts fading away, the ashes floating upwards and away on the winds of victory.

With the grappling spike now freed, Ferus instantly retracts the spike, before turning and raising his gunlance high above his head in one swift motion. In a blatant display of strength and a triggering of his Semblance, he smashes the entire bladed length onto the carapace of the Death Stalker, cracking the thick armor and embedding the blade in the weak flesh, before discharging one of Grimm Repetoiré's shells point-blank. Instant obliteration. It doesn't even make a sound, the force of the discharge blowing every trace of it, even the ashes, into whatever hell it crawled out from.

Meanwhile, the kinetic charge blows, sending the branch and its unfortunate passenger soaring sky-high straight at the Nevermore's left wing joint. Flying too fast to change course, it's unable to pull up or react to anything Coco might pull out of his sleeve.

Amidst all the noise, confusion, and slaughter, a shot rings out. It's not muffled like Amane's assault rifle, or loud and clear like Prism's sniper. Prism would feel another rejuvenating, calming wave of Aura, albeit meagre, wash over her like a weak wave breaking itself on a beach. If she cared to turn, she would see a deathly pale Jocelyn lower her rifle and give her the weakest, most vulnerable yet unrestrained and comforting smile, before once again falling into unconsciousness against the tree, her Aura fizzling out and fading.

Despite her quaking form, there’s a small shaky grin on her face as the Queen Lancer dissipates beneath her blade and she hovers back to the ground, stance unstable. Hearing the bombs blow, she purposefully doesn’t turn to see Coco rocketing skyward, but raises her glaive in a cheer. "C'mon Coco, fuck that thing up! You've got this, dude!"

The small muffled noise is heard barely, and Prism feels the wave slow, cool calm literally wash over her being - turning in an instant to see Jocelyn’s rapidly-disappearing grin before she collapses back down, the somber moment accompanied by the rapid beeping of her scroll to notify her a team member’s aura has fallen to zero. There’s a look of horror on the faunus’ face as she acts automatically, her rifle firing off so she rockets forwards - timing the distance perfectly so she slides to her knees next to the downed healer. Immediately checking her pulse, she’s still alive, thank fuck, just incredibly, incredibly unconscious.

Prism kneels in front of her prone form, wings slowly extending outward and upwards to form an oval of shade  over Jocelyn's prone form in the early morning light. The green-blue iridescent feathers shimmer with almost a white sheen - she’s concentrating her aura to body-block anything else that’s thrown their way, whether it’s more Grimm or flying feathers from above. Not sparing a glance from Jocelyn to keep from incapitating herself again, Prism calls back to the professor. ”Ferus, she’s hit zero! If you’d like to put that massive shield of yours to use again, it’d be appreciated over here! Or Amane, please - I need to assure she isn't hit, by anything, but I can't just leave Coco to hit the dirt!”

"FUUUUUUU-" Coconut screamed out as he flew through the air. His teammates may be used to taking off like this to some extent, but he sure as hell wasn't. While the branch helped quite a bit, he still felt the explosion slam into his back but gravity kept him flat against his vessel. He had to fight against it in order to raise his blade - just in time to have it slash into the bird's wing right next to the joint.

Whether or not the blade goes through, Coconut's next move remains the same. The boy grabs hold of the creature's massive feathers in order to stay on the bird - if the thing starts going down, he'll have to let go and hope that Prism catches him before he plummets to the ground. If it doesn't... Well, he'd have to stab it until it dies.

Deactivating the Gravity Dust on his left gauntlet, Ferus jammed his shield into the floor in front of Jocelyn's prone form, completely shielding her from any frontal assault that may come her way, before turning to watch Coco scream all the way up on his way to the Nevermore. He may or may not have cracked a grin at the spectacle.

Unfortunately for the passenger, the Grimm was simply too large for such a tactic to work as expected. Sure, Coco's blade cut deep, but barely reached halfway down the width of the wing. Certainly not measly damage, as the Nevermore showed the first signs of pain since the fire, but not enough to stop it flying. It proceeded to frantically flap its wings while hovering in midair, trying to shake the unwelcome human off.

You never really get to appreciate how massive a creature like a giant nevermore is until you get up and personal with it. Coconut, latched onto its thrashing side as the beast was flapping its gigantic wings, was about as close as you could get without being eaten - something he'd like to avoid if at all possible. So, he clenched his teeth and straddled the wing joint to get his blade out, still holding its feathers with one hand.

When Coco had been a young lad, his parents had taken him to a birthday party one of their friends was having at some diner in the corner of town. Unlike most events they had brought their son to, this one stuck in Coconut's memory because of one thing - a mechanical bull everyone, including himself, got to try out. Cream briefly recalled getting tossed off in a matter of seconds as everyone around him laughed - where was that memory when he was trying to get angry?

Fueled by childhood saltiness, Coconut let out a victorious 'Hya!' as he pulled OTN out from the wing. His next move was clear - the boy began hacking away at the bird's wing like mad, not sparing any strength. With the wings flapping and thrashing as they are, the nevermore ended up hitting the blade itself. At some point, however, his attacks started getting... Sloppier. In a brief moment of clarity, he noted the fact that if he had started with attacks almost perpendicular to the creature's wing, his attacks now had an odd angle to them. Then, they had no angle at all as the boy slid off the side, entering a freefall. His mind barely registered it, too - if anything, the breeze that hit his face was nice and refreshing. Maybe when he hits the ground he could take a nap...

Prism slides to the side as Ferus takes over cover for Jocelyn, listening carefully to Coconut scream his way through the air. She shoots a look to Amane before gesturing to Ferus to take a picture - they don't know the next time they'll see the Professor smile like that - before listening to his determined cry and the sound of metal meeting flesh. Then it lessens, and then it stops - and Coco's falling now, isn't he.

Her wings spread open wide for a moment, before she's literally slammed off the ground by a gust that'd even make Ferus stagger. Reorienting herself midair, she intercepts the path of her fallen teammate, wrapping her arms around his waist once again - before another similar gust of wind catches her wings and throws her right back towards the treeline. Coconut would notice that Prism's grip around his waist is unusually tight, and she's buried her face into his back - too preoccupied trying to keep herself from panicking, her aim is actually off, and they fly directly into a tree. Again.

Prism takes the brunt of the collision with a small oof, her limbs now entangled with Coco. She hopes he's conscious after all that.

Unfortunately for Amane, Ferus didn't show any more signs of emotion, instead simply spectating as Coco stabs the Nevermore a few times before falling, and Prism's semi-botched attempt at airlifting him to safety. Well, they weren't too harmed, and clearly the Grimm had taken more damage than them. To add salt to the wound, an entire clip of precisely aimed bullets struck the neck of the Nevermore. If it wasn't going down before, it certainly was now.

Coco's blade stabs had crippled the wing of the Nevermore to the point that it couldn't keep itself aloft anymore, and the 8-round burst was the catalyst for it nearly nosediving down the cliff, raking up the grass and dirt as it slid. Before it could reach the members still on the ground, Ferus thrust Grimm Repetoiré forward, one of its firing chambers aimed directly at its head. Instead of firing another of its ground-shaking shells, however, a great thick metal stake impaled itself so hard in its skull that the entire length disappeared inside the head. No kill like overkill, indeed.

As the giant corpse started melting into ashes, the team would hear the sounds of rotating blades get less and less prominent, followed by the ping of their scrolls. -Evacuation of Verdea complete. We owe you our lives, Team CASA and co.

Prism's arms are still wrapped around Coco, only held in the tree by the awkward position of her wings and a leg caught in the crook of a branch. Shifting slightly as she comes back from the impact and dull pain of running into a tree, again, Prism looks around as she tries to find a way out of their precarious situation without hurting any of them further. If she shifts her wings just so, and reaches for that branch overhead, she might just be able to -

k-k-KRACK!

Amane and Ferus would hear the sound of a branch breaking behind them, right as Coconut and Prism fall to earth among a large number of leaves and twigs. Prism looks dazed, and only just manages to extract herself from out beneath the prone body of her team member, hobbling her way to a standing position by leaning heavily against the tree they just fell from. She looks up in time to watch the final wisps of Nevermore disappear in the afternoon sunlight, and checks her scroll - they've all managed to safely evacuate. They did it. Her team did it. A tired smile graces her face, looking over to the still-standing members of the team. "Only if we like, get it to go from somewhere. I'm a little bit wiped to deal with the necessary pleasantries of eating out."

Coconut barely registered the fact that he hadn't smashed his face into the ground, though the fact that he still felt himself slam into something made him more confused than anything else. He opened his bleary eyes, his usually light hair coated in sweat, falling on his face and blocking his sight.

"D-did I won?" he mumbles out. Good news is, he's pretty sure he won the bull ride. His dad's gonna get him a root beer float and a cowboy hat - what else could a kid like him want?

Ferus raised an eyebrow, then snorted with laughter. "You kids nowadays finish missions and instantly talk about food." The two other 'scouts' who had joined him also added their voices to the laughter. "Good hunting, Ferus. These kids got potential." The older one spoke up, raising his hand in a fist. Without looking, Ferus returns the fistbump.

"How's your apprentice?" he asked, looking at the other 'scout'. "Doing well, thanks to your guidance." Ferus nodded, before addressing the team--or at least, the ones still conscious enough to listen. "Hopefully none of you were naive enough to think we'd do this without actual Hunter support--these two are old acquaintances of mine. And don't worry--their involvement won't affect your end result. You've all passed your first initiation, and now we should get out before Goliaths arrive and stomp us flat." Pulling his scroll out of his pocket he sent the signal out for pick-up.

"Yeah Coco, you did won." Prism takes the time to notify the boy, smiling almost fondly down at his prone form. Looking towards the professor, she gives a tired nod of thanks to the scouts, and a slight snort at the fistbump - there's a relieved smile on her face at the idea of evacuating.

"Professor, would you mind helping carry Coconut back to the Bullhead? Amane and I should be able to manage Jocelyn between us, then once we get everyone on board it's all smooth sailing. Probably. I like the idea of not being tramped under a Goliath."

"Thanks, momma," Coconut mumbles before shutting his eyes. The fatigue finally takes over and the boy is out like a light. Chances are, he'd be out of it until they even got back. He was going to ask for a recap of what exactly happened when he wakes up, but for now, he sleeps calmly, dreaming of badass fights and cute girls.

Prism only looks down at the now-unconscious Coco, snorting slight at her new nickname. That's gonna make great blackmail when he wakes up. She then kneels, slinging Jocelyn's spare arm around her shoulder, before moving to stand. "I'll stay with these guys once we get to the dorm - they'll want to know what happened after they passed out. Ordering and picking up sounds best - as team leader, I'm using my executive power to request Pizza. And maybe sushi. Tacos if you can find them? Just get a bit of everything and I'll repay you when you're back. Like seriously - my metabolism's is a hummingbird, I eat enough for two of me, and I'm expecting the same for Coco."

Picking up the unconscious Coco with a surprising gentleness for a man of such size, Ferus looked up as the telltale sounds of whirring rotors and clanking machinery descended upon them in the form of their evacuation Bullhead. Escorting the team members carrying their Aura-depleted healer onto the ship first, followed by the two scouts-turned-Hunters, before stepping on the ship himself and signalling for the take-off, once the Bullhead was high in the air any passenger aboard could see a distant, yet abnormally large dust cloud headed in the direction of the unfortunate village. However, every single occupant in that village was already far, far away, and that was what mattered.

Upon returning to Beacon, the team would deposit both unconscious members in the Beacon infirmary, before heading out to order up a feast, which was thoroughly enjoyed by every member having worked up a well-earned sweat. The news had already spread about another successful initiation and a impressive performance, with even the knowledge of Verdea being decimated doing little to dampen the mood. To top it off, Team CASA would each receive from the community of Verdea, now relocated to a more safe location, a pretty large sum of Lien, enough for them to get an upgrade to their equipment if need be, or for them to use as they saw fit.

The team would eventually return to their dorm, exhausted but safe, when a message from Professor Ferus would find its way into their scrolls.

INITIATION DEBRIEF:

--Successfully held off Grimm long enough to evacuate all civilians
--No Grimm were let through to Verdea
--Strike Team successfully retrieved "scouts"-no impediment on mission success

Well done, Team CASA. --Professor Ferus
