“That’s just somethin’ I can’t figure out, personally” Glas said with a tiny shrug. “Sleepin’ should be something’ pretty easy for anyone to do. Kinda hard to teach on top of all of that. Although maybe I could give it a shot, at least get an extra nap in durin’ the day, eh?” A grin peeked out from under his obscuring hood, directed at Diana for her little jest. Glas was sure that if put up a bunch of fliers around Beacon advertising ‘Sleeping Lessons’ that he’d get a few bites. On the other hand… It wounded like it was a bit too much work for something that was supposed to be relaxing. A sort of relaxation paradox.

Diana at least was starting to show she had a pretty level head about her drawing at the very least. “Good, you don’t want to rush yourself with somethin’ like that. Take it at yer own pace, and sooner or later it’ll be as natural as breathin’. Tryin’ to force somethin’ like that would just make you end up hatin’ it in the end.” The young man nodded slightly to emphasize his solidarity with the situation. Being a little self-conscious about one’s art would certainly make trying to practice it surrounded by other people a difficult task. I mean, unless Diana here goes on lockin’ herself in the closet or something’ to try and draw in peace. Heh… It certainly give her roommates something to talk about, at any point.

“I feel ya. Some habits are pretty hard to go and break, but they break eventually. Not sayin’ that you’ll turn into a master artist or somethin’, but you’ll at least be comfortable with it all. Best state of mind to be in, if you ask me.” The young man slumped forward slightly as he felt another good nap rearing its head, but he fought back against it slightly so he could keep his conversation going with Diana for the time being. Even if she didn’t have too much practice climbing, it didn’t mean the end of their talk either. Especially since something he said seemed to catch her attention.

“Eh, some of my teachers don’t take too kindly to fallin’ asleep durin’ their lessons. Take it as some kinda sign that I don’t care about my lessons or somethin’. May have fallen asleep once or twice while someone was talkin’ to me as well, so it’s not like I can’t blame ‘em for getting’ mad for no reason. Just wish they could see it wasn’t a reason to be mad in the first place, y’know?”

It's fine! I know that life has its way of getting in the way of things we'd rather be doing, but you don't need to worry about it. Just glad to see you back!

Glas chuckled softly. "That's the ticket. Just don't go 'round talkin' down yer talents and you'll keep gettin' better at it all. Not like I got to be this good at nappin' by lyin' around, after all." He'd pause for a little bit. "Actually... don't think about that one too hard. Point is: you don't need to be hard on yerself all the time. If a hobby's not fun for you anymore, it kinda beats the purpose of havin' one, doesn't it?" Climbing was also something Glas found to be pretty enjoyable too, but he'd be sure to drop it if it ever became less than enjoyable for him.

"A quiet place is definitely good to have, yeah. It's where climbin' really comes in handy every once in a while. No quiet places around? Make one. Bound to be a tree or small hill or somethin' to get on top of for some R&R. I can give you some pointers on it if you ever need 'em." She could probably even give him a few pointers on how to deal with being part of a team as well. Glas sure as heck didn't know the first thing about that. "But y'know, a few other people in my life would say I was a bit too relaxed. Can you believe that? I don't think there's such a thing."

Calen was apparently making his exit from their little chat, and Glas nodded at him with his hands still firmly planted in his jacket pockets. "Be seein' you around, Calen. You just might need to nudge me a bit if I don't respond or something'. I'll most likely be... Well y'know." Which then left Glas to carry on his conversation with Diana. Kind of like how their whole conversation began in the first place. He had to chuckle a little bit at that.

“Still not a worry, Diana. I’m not expectin’ any of ye to be some kind of perfect socialite or anything’. We’re only human; we can mess up a bit. Just gotta make sure to learn from it when we do.” The Atlesian girl really seemed to be worrying about everything when she talked to them. She really didn’t have to. Just a bunch of fellow students hanging out, didn’t have to be all formal and everything. He wasn’t a social master by any definition of the word either, so it was probably what fueled his easygoingness about the whole thing.

The talk of shared room seemed to catch Glas’ attention as well, and he tilted his hooded head slightly as he took the information in. “Huh… alright. It’d be the first time that I’d have to deal with livin’ like that, but no reason to worry about it. Might be interestin’ to have some other folks bein’ around. Won’t be able to avoid that once I get a partner anyway, right?” Glas said with a hint of amusement. It was actually one of the few new experiences he was looking forward to when coming to Beacon. Only time would tell how much he’d appreciate it in the future, though.

“Personal projects? That sorta thing’s out of my league, Calen. I usually don’t plan anythin’ too far ahead or the like. Kinda makes it hard to ruin somethin’ that doesn’t exist,  y’know?” All he had planned for himself was whatever his teachers gave him to work on, and that was it. His meditating and such was all just done when he felt like it, planning to do it just wouldn’t have the same effect on him. “It’s worked out pretty well for me so far, so I reckon I’ll just keep goin’ with it.” He wouldn’t even know how to even begin planning ahead for something for himself. Too many factors that could go wrong or change without him knowing, who could really plan anything accurately?

Glas shrugged slightly. “Eh, I say what I mean. Don’t like sugar coatin’ or tryin’ to mislead people, y’know? Makes things easier for everyone in the long run.” Perhaps his relaxed nature helped to keep his conversations honest, or maybe to some, blunt. His tone never changed to seem like he was openly lying or trying to mislead them, in fact it… Didn’t really change much at all. It was the same neutral tone as when they started. Diana’s tone turned a bit confused upon hearing the name Glas gave his gun, however.

“Doesn’t mean much really. Somethin’ I heard a couple of the older folk say about me from time to time, though they said ‘lackadaisical’. Didn’t seem really fittin’ for a weapon to me, too long and whatnot. So I shortened it down, made it a bit easier to roll off the tongue and everything.” Glas’ hands reflexively went into his coat pockets the more as he talked about his weapon, a tic that even he didn’t realize was happening himself. “Don’t have too much meanin’ behind it really. Gonna  be honest, I only really named it when I was headin’ over here to Beacon. Figured I’d need to name it when I got here, y’know? No harm done, Diana.”

Calen has the humility enough to admit where he’s got a weakness, I’ll give ‘im that. Glas thought with a small grin. Even with his weird habit of readin’ people like he does. Guess I can’t say he doesn’t look inward with it at the very least. The talk about his weapon not offering too much in the ‘absorbing recoil’ field made him smile a little more, though.

“Hey, not everyone starts out with all the confidence in the world. All this practice is bound to get some goin’ for ya” Glas reassured. But still, Diana didn’t look like she was enjoying all the talk about herself at the moment. The dorm question was turning the tide of the conversation, and Glas was more than happy to ride it along. Partially because he brought it up in the first place. “Huh, that so? Well I’ll be… Sounds like things are about to get interestin’ for us three then. ‘Specially you, Calen; you’ve already got yerself a group of pals to bunk with.” Huh, already pickin’ teams? Sounds like it’s gonna be my turn up to bad before too long. Might as well get ready for it.

No worries! It gave me more to have Glas think about, so it’s a-ok!

"All that from memory, huh? Pretty impressive, Diana. Don't got the best memory meself, so that kind of thing is way beyond what I imagine doin'." Of course, being perfectly honest anything that had to do with art was pretty much beyond him. Diana must have had patience out the wazoo. And just a touch of some kinda social awkwardness as well, but who am I to judge? She at least seemed to understand what he meant about weapons. They were in a Huntsman school after all, keeping one's weapon in tip-top shape was important above nearly anything else.

But when the question inevitably shifted over to him and his weapon. Yet another time that finer details about his combat details were brought up, and Glas wasn't sure that he was comfortable with giving up any of the details. Then again... It's just the name. Not like they can guess what my weapon does just from it's name alone. Eh... Glas shrugged slightly. "Yeah, it's got a name: Lackadaisy. Came up with it myself. Really the only part of the weapon I had a real hand in doin', but I'm glad with what I got."

Then the conversation shifted over to how Calen was able to deduce what sort of weapon Diana was likely to use just by looking at her, and the girl certainly did look a bit uncomfortable from the whole thing. Eh, if he'd been doing this as a kid, maybe that's why he doesn't feel weird doin' it to her. Still... Just a wee bit rude, even if he didn't mean it.

Glas reached over and rested a hand on Diana's shoulder comfortingly as Calen went on about how he was going to offer to show them how he saw things from his perspective. She looked like she could have used a change of subject into something a little less related to how he was paying a lot of attention to her body. "Actually, got a bit of a question myself for the two of ye: What do you know about the whole dorm situation? Teams to a room, partners to a room? How's that all supposed to work out?"

Glas nodded slowly. “Sure thing, just give me a ring on the ol’ Scroll whenever you fancy a try. Most likely won’t be doin’ anythin’ in the meantime.” He had to admit that he was a bit curious about what it would like to be drawn. Just a bit, though. He honestly had enough time dealing with art and the people that made it back home in Mistral. Speaking of Mistral… Heh, ‘seems like a Mistral weapon’. Suppose that’s something the ol’ Lackadaisy has going for it. No one’s probably gonna take a look at this haphazardly put together thing and think it came anywhere close from Mistral. Almost a shame I know better, huh?

Diana seemed to be in agreement about keeping their distance though, but it meant Calen there was the odd man out. “I mean, I sort of see your point there Calen, but I think if we start seein’ Grimm that can shoot back at us we’ll have some bigger problems than just ‘bein’ even’.  Besides, it’s perfectly natural to have that kinda feelin’ about your weapons. We trust ‘em to keep us alive when fightin’ Grimm, and they can only do that if we keep ‘em clean and ready. Kinda symbiotic in a way.”

Calen certainly had a talent for… categorizing people. How long had he been watching Diana to make all those assumptions about the kind of weapon that she used? He was kinda thankful for his coat now. Or heck, maybe he was able to tell stuff about Glas just from what he wore. Just how far does this guy’s readin’ go? And why’s he doin’ it so much to people he just met? To Glas, Calen was looking pretty suspicious at the moment… “…Yeah, suppose that would be pretty good. You guys see anythin’ that looks comfy enough snap me a photo or somethin’. I’d appreciate it.”

“And like I said, I’m not turnin’ down a free meal if it’s offered. Even if it’s not somethin’ I particularly like to eat. Throw in some kinda beef dish alongside it and you’ve got yourself a deal there, Calen. “ And as long as they didn’t try to eat anywhere near those docks. He could do without any extra trouble in his life.

Glad tilted his head slightly at Diana. “You kiddin’? Sit in a chair or somethin’ while you draw me? Sounds like my kinda way to spend an afternoon.  I mean, unless you try and get me to make some kinda pose or somethin’ in the meantime. Might not work so well.” It’d definitely mess up Diana’s portrait if Glas nodded if and fell down in the middle of drawing. Although the mental image of such a thing caused the corners of Glas’ mouth to slightly turn upwards in a grin.

“Yeah, I try to get my time in the range in every once in a while. It’s… a little tough at times, if I’m gonna be honest. For a couple of reasons.” Things were starting to move more into the territory of his weaponry, and Glas was starting to feel familiar prickles of paranoia on the back of his neck. It was something he tried not to openly discuss with most people, even if they seemed like pretty cool people. Calen however, was more than happy to show off his own weapon. One that actually didn’t have a gun in the blasted thing at all, that was… quaint. Definitely kept his long-range options limited, unless his Semblance was suited for long-range in that case-Man, why am I over-thinking this stuff? Whatever Calen does with how he fights is up to him. Just because he wants to spill the beans on how he does combat doesn’t mean I should.

Luckily for Glas, Lackadaisy was still hidden pretty well behind his coat, so he didn’t spill all of his beans just yet. “…I’m a rifleman meself. Keeps me away from gettin’ too close to any Grimm or anythin’, which is fine with me.” He still didn’t want to be totally rude either. Just giving up basic details like that was well enough. “Not a fan of fish though. It’s always tasted pretty… samey to me. Couldn’t blindfold me and give me a few different kinds and expect me to tell ya which was which. I’d appreciate the free food, though. And I mean, maybe sleepin' in every continent is a goal worth lookin' into. When I'm older. ”

Then the conversation thankfully shifted over more towards talking about each others Fanus experiences, which was a much less concerning topic of conversation for Glas. Of course, he also didn't have too much to add to it either... "I knew a Fanus girl back in Mistral."

And that was all he had to contribute.

"It's fine, Diana. Means you got yerself a bit of humbleness to ya. Never a bad thing to have." Glas' hand left its pocket briefly to give her a thumbs-up before returning. "And yeah, suppose we'll all be spendin' time at the gun range a lot anyway. Probably want to keep your full attention on that." They'd come to Beacon to become Huntsmen and Huntresses, not artists. Didn't mean that she couldn't practice drawing on her own time though, thankfully the school had a good bit of downtime in-between things as well. Always good to have a hobby or two, I suppose. Dancin', drawin', and nappin'; prett well-rounded group we got here. he thought, amused.

"Well if you ever need practicin', you could always do one of those portrait things of me. I'm pretty good at staying still for a long time, y'know?" He'd seen a few artists and their models sitting around back in Mistral before, and he had briefly thought that it was a pretty solid deal for both of them. Someone gets to take a picture and the other gets to relax. Of course, the hard part would be sitting there still for such a long time without falling asleep.

Calen was helpful enough to give them a bit of a breakdown of what the city was like, and Glas nodded along in understanding. "Got it, stay away from the docks and everythin' else is peachy keen. Never been too much of a shopper, but I sure can appreciate a good cafe every once in a while. Might have to check those out." Guess there's no way of escapin' crime entirely is there? Still, this place is squeaky clean compared back to home. Small victories, I suppose...

"Y'know I've... never really thought about goin' anywhere else to be honest. Only real time I planned to leave my home was when I came here, but I haven't had any plans for what happens after. Guess I'm goin' to have to just listen 'round and see if hear of any good places to go. Otherwise..." Glas shrugged slightly "I got nothin'"

Glad shrugged. "Can't really overestimate somethin' I haven't seen before either, can I? For all I know you got yerself a talent for it, it's just yer mind holdin' you back. 'Course I'm not the best critic either. Might want to give me and Calan a shot to look at it, at least. Might make you feel better about what you got." This girl certainly seemed to be putting herself down a lot over just a hobby... Probably had something in her past that started it all or- Nah, nah... No reason to try and dissect her life, or anyone else's, really.

"Everything takes time to master, can't really be born perfect, 'least in my book. It's why we go to the Academy, isn't it?" There were probably schools for art stuff too, right? He might have heard about some of them in passing back home in Mistral, but it also wasn't something really looked into either.

Glas shook his head slightly at Calen's insistence at trying to get him to be in a more dancing mood. That wasn't exactly likely to happen, not with this Mistralian. "Calen, even if I had three left feet I don't think I'll be dancin' anytime soon. Some people are dancers, some aren't. Pretty sure I'm squarely in the 'not dancin'' camp at the moment." There weren't enough dance clubs in Vale to get him to start picking it up as a hobby, no matter who insisted.

Still, Glas did watch as Diana did a little twirl in her dress, which drew a tiny smile and a nod from the hooded young man. "Guess that's a little true, Diana. Place feels pretty good to me, although I can't really complain about it either way. Any weather's good nappin' weather, after all. Still... Guess if I find myself without much else to do around here I might start walkin' around Vale some more. Gonna be livin' here for the next couple of years, right? Probably need to get a good lay of the land at some point."

“Diana’s a fine enough name. I’m not one for fancy titles if I can help it anyway, too much extra stuff to remember. Kinda don’t have too much of an imagination for makin’ up nicknames either…” Glas said as she scratched his head, well, hood. Come to think of it, he hadn’t had to worry about nicknames back in Mistral either. If people didn’t call him by his name, then it’d just be the ‘Mossberg Boy’. That name wore quicker on his nerves than anything else back home…

“Ah come on, just because yer not great at it now it doesn’t mean you won’t in the future. Isn’t art the kinda thing that you get better at the more you do it? Sorta like huntsman trainin’ if you think about it, y’know?” It seemed that his laidback nature didn’t mean that quitting was something he was a fan of. “Shouldn’t let people tell you what you can have as a hobby either, though. Live yer life the way you want to, Diana.” Glas crossed his arms behind his head and nodded knowingly at her, despite getting an odd tilted look at her.

“Dancin’ takes a lot of coordination too. You been doin’ it long there, Calen?” Glas asked curiously. He hadn’t met too many dancers around, and since it wasn’t exactly his speed anyway it wasn’t something he sought out either. Cooking, dancing; guy must be pretty popular around here. “Vale’s a big city at least, bound to be some kinda dance place to yer likin’. Does Beacon have one of those school dance things here too? Had a few back in Mistral but… Well that’s not exactly my scene.”

‘Wallflower’ was only a small description of how much Glas didn’t want to be there those days.

“No place specific, just whenever a couple good ol’ guys decided to sit down together and play for a while. Town square, some on the side of the road. Couple of ‘em practiced underneath a big tree I liked to nap in, so I always got a free show” he said with a shrug. “Don’t need a specific place to make music, really.” Everyone got into the habit of exchanging their Scroll numbers, so Glas made sure to do the same as he registered both Calen and Diana’s into his own Scroll. A quick message consisting of ‘Yo’ to the two of them revealed his own number, and they were now connected. At least in the sense of being able to call each other. “Thanks for the digits. Kinda curious about city life too, now that you bring it up, Calen.”

“S’alright, man. Don’t gotta make too much of an effort for me, not like I’m gonna bit yer head off or somethin’” Glas reassured Calen. It was really just more of an annoyance thing than any kind of personal insult to the young man. Of course, being called ‘master’ all throughout the day would probably rub him a little raw if he had to be honest. At least his fellow Mistralian said he’d try to remember. Good start, I guess. Just my first day meetin’ the guy, can’t judge him too hard I suppose…

Glad raised an non-visible eyebrow at Diana bringing up drawing, though. “You tryin’ to become an artist or somethin’, Diane? If yer lookin’ to be inspired by somethin’, give Windpath a try when yer ready enough to visit. It’s got a cliff overlookin’ some of the swamps that all the artsy people went crazy over all the time. Apparently if you looked at it the right way at sunset it’s all kinds of beautiful or somethin’.” Of course, that meant that a lot of the artsy kinds of folks made regular trips to Windpath, and that was always a time that the less reputable guys had decent paydays. The memory alone caused Glas’ lips to twitch downward in the briefest instance of a frown before his chill returned along with his neutral expression.

Their topic shifted back towards hobbies for a bit longer, and Glas wracked his brain to try and come up with something else to share. “Mmm… Guess I haven’t had much chances to indulge in it here in Vale, but always liked going to little musical performances. Couple of guys sittin’ around, doin’ their own thing. Pretty chill time to have around those, yeah.” Without traveling into the surrounding city, Glas couldn’t be sure if there was anything like that. Maybe he’d get lucky, or maybe that was something else he’d leave back in Mistral. At least it was something that he could live without if absolutely necessary. “Oh, and thanks” he added as Calen offered his scroll number to him and Diane. He slowly reached out and grasped the scrap of paper and put it into his jacket pocket without looking at it as he continued on with his conversation.

"Ain't saying you have to avoid it entirely, just might want to keep a close eye on your wallet when you go. Place still has some pretty parts to it. And I guess if you like artsy kind of stuff it'd be a good place to spend some time." Glas however, was not an artsy kind of person. At all. He just couldn't... really understand most of it when it all got down to it. As much as he also didn't get the hang of his parent's work either, at least things made more sense there.

Part A goes into Part B, rotates around Part C; that's the kind of stuff I get. Can't begin to tell ya why that color and this color make people go 'oohhh' and 'aahhhh'. Diana went on to talk about so many different ways that people could grow crops and stuff, and it all sort of started to fly over Glas' head. Heck, it even was starting to just make him doze off because he had no idea what they were even discussing.

Until Calen referred to him as 'Master Glas" and the thick-coated boy woke up. "C'mooon, I'm not a 'master' anythin'" Glas drawled. "Just call me 'Glas', alright? And yeah, I got myself transferred here as soon as I could. Felt like leavin' Mistral rather quick-like and such. Worked out well enough I suppose, just kinda wish more classrooms had desks next to windows, y'know? Best place to take a nap."

"Plenty of beauty, yeah. Got plenty of nastiness hiding behind it too. Some places just hide it better than others do is all." Glas said with a shrug. "Sometimes it's in yer own town, and you just have to live with it. " he seemed to be quite opinionated despite his rather chill behaviour, even if none of his body language seemed to show it.

Seeing that Diana didn't immediately convulse after eating the candy, Glas popped his own into his mouth. He seemed to fully savor the tastes that it presented, fully grasp the complex combinations that were put into it. His own response even was delayed from Diane's own, before he eventually nodded and replied: "'S good"

Starting to get a handle on these two, or at least I think I am. Seem decent enough folk, care about thier folks, thier homes. Glas nodded slowly at seemingly nothing in particular as Calen kept the conversation going with his question about thier time in Vale.

"I've been here about... since the semester started. However long ago that's been. Enrollin' here's been the first I've ever stepped inside the place."
