CHARACTER

Name: Brooke Pallas

Age: 26, Hitahita 14th 54 AC

Species and Gender: Female Owl Faunus

Symbol: Nyctimene

Occupation: Fourth year student at Haven

Appearance: 5’7” 142 lbs. Brooke has long, light blue hair that falls down to her upper back, and orange, dagger like, eyes. She wears her hair down nearly all the time, even in combat. It appears and feels like it has a feather like quality to it. She, like most of Mistral descent, she has a slightly tan complexion, while most inhabitants of Vale have a milky white skin tone. Her casual clothing usually consists of pajama pants, a loose shirt, and a hoodie. She isn’t one for formality in everyday life. However, she wears her Haven academy clothing with pride, when she has to of course.

In combat she chooses to go with a normal black t-shirt, black leggings, black boots, and a red neck scarf that can be pulled up over her face if need be. Over top of all that, however, is some light body armor. A chest plate, small shoulder plates, knee pads, and elbow pads. Along with all that, she had a belt with several pouches hung around it, carrying her ammunition and dust. Overtop of her armor, she wears a faded blue trench coat, similar to this.

History: Brooke grew up in Mistral with her mother, an owl faunus, and her father, a panther faunus. Neither of them were hunters in the past, in fact they had spent nearly their whole lives running a shop out of the marketplace on the north end of the residential zone. This was, of course, in 54 AC, well before the nearly fatal collapse of Mistral. Brooke had a relatively normal life growing up, she went to Sanctum academy, trained there for three years. She didn’t do exceptionally well, but she did well enough. Well enough to get into Haven Academy, anyway. After the three years of training, creating her weapon, and studying, she had been accepted into one of the four major hunting academies. She and her parents couldn't be more overjoyed, even if her parents were worried. That dream wouldn’t come true, however, not for six more years, when she was finally able to enter Haven at the age of 22.

During the summer between her final year at Sanctum and her first year at Haven, disaster struck the kingdom. No one knows why or how it happened, but they do know it happened quickly. The northern wall of the city was breached, and not just quietly with a small hole that Grimm could get through. It was explosive. And explosion that lit up the night sky. The sound of the explosion could be heard all throughout the kingdom. The wall fell inward on the city, collapsing on several homes on the outskirts of the residential area. It wasn’t long before Grimm began to flood the streets, bringing death and fire with them.

Brooke, having woken up to the sound of the explosion, grabbed her weapon and put on her armor before rushing downstairs to find her parents staring out the window, at the sight of fire in the distance. There was only one place Brooke knew they could go, back to Sanctum. All the way on the coast. They all quickly made their way outside in the now crowded streets. There were families running, children screaming, babies crying. It was chaos. There was no way they would make it out of the residential area at this rate, even if there wasn’t any chaos to attract Grimm. Fortunately, Brooke had an ace up her sleeve. She used her semblance to create a stairway up onto the roof for her and her parents and they began to make their way from rooftop to rooftop thanks to the help of her semblance.

It wasn’t long before they heard the screams of those left behind and the snarls and the howls of Grimm. There was no way she could fend off Grimm, not like this.

It was here that a miracle struck. Above them, in the sky, a bullhead flew over and dropping from it, huntresses and hunters, dropping down into hell. It gave Brooke and her family enough time to make it into the Upper Class area, where a wall had been set up to stop Grimm from getting further.

In the months that followed, Brooke and her family lived in the new slums with the others who had been displaced. It was never easy, food was scarce, sometimes they went without food for a day or two, after all the agricultural district had all be been destroyed. Eventually in the years that followed, new a residential area had been set up off the coast. One after another, families were moved out of the slums and into the residential area. It was humans. It was always humans. Faunus were being treated as second class, being left in the slums to scrounge for food, to cheat and steal, to starve to death. The only reason, Brooke thought, they were eventually moved out was because of her acceptance into Haven all those years ago.

After a while, they got used to the high rises of the new residential area, her parents got new jobs in the relocated agricultural district, and Brooke finally got to travel to Haven. She finally got to train to become a huntress. She finally got to protect those that couldn’t protect themselves. She could finally make sure no one would be left behind ever again.

Personality: Brooke is, before anything else, protective. She is a huntress so she can protect others and even though she’s only a fourth year, she considers herself huntress already, and she’s certainly gone on several hunter-level missions. There have been many situations in the past where she couldn’t save someone: a child, another student, a faunus, a human; and each time it tore her up afterward. She holds herself together, or tries to, until the mission is complete, but it as soon as she steps foot back onto Haven’s grounds, it all comes rushing to her. It’s never been a pattern with her, sometimes she’s broken down  as soon as she’s stepped back on the grounds, and sometimes she simply shuts herself away in the dorm for days on end, only leaving for classes and food. Even when it wasn’t something she could have stopped, it plagues her.

But Brooke doesn’t always want to be protective though, and there are certainly those she’s met that she has no wish to protect. Racist humans, murderous faunus, the White Fang; they were all horrible people, but Brooke knows what her job is, to protect the people, and if that means saving the life of some trash, she’ll put up with it.

But that’s all “On-the-Job” Brooke. The real Brooke is kind, caring, and, according to her, funny. She likes being with her teammates and her friends, even though some of them get on her nerves sometimes. She likes going out and eating with people she enjoys being with. She likes to pretend, even for a day, she has a normal life. But at the end of the day, she knows she’ll never have a normal life. It’s something she’s come to accept in her four years at Haven. The least she can do is make sure others can have a normal life.

Aura and Semblance: Brooke’s aura is a misty blue color. Her semblance was unlocked in Sanctum academy during one of the Mistral regional tournaments.

Object creation: Brooke has the ability to create objects with her aura, though she has limitations. She can only create two dimensional objects, however she can make it in almost any shape. These objects are strong enough to take a hit from heavy artillery, but it can’t last long under extended fire. These objects are a misty blue color, like her aura, and translucent. She can usually use these shields to give her team time to observe where the enemies are without endangering themselves, or to give them cover. She can only make one object at a time. The objects she create only take from her aura supply if the objects are destroyed. If the objects are not destroyed, the aura will return to Brooke. However, once created, they still take from her aura pool, so she can be defeated while the object is still in place.

Combat Behavior: Brooke tends to play more defensively, covering her allies. She usually finds a good place to hunker down and take shots at the enemies while giving her allies aural shields from afar. Her faunus senses help immensely with this, not only being able to see at night, but also being able to see further, even without the scope, than humans. During one-on-one combat, she is at somewhat of a disadvantage, though she is by no means not a threat. She is very efficient at not only fighting with her sword, but also parry strikes with her dagger. Though all that is how Brooke deals with people. With Grimm, it’s a much more simple approach. Pick them off from a distance, if they don’t go down in one shot, keep shooting. If they don’t go down, either slice and dice or use her semblance to retreat, preferably to higher ground. Of course, she does have a habit of ignoring orders. Though she is committed to providing defense and cover for her allies, she sometimes ignores orders for her to move up, or for her to retreat if she’d be leaving someone behind.

WEAPON

Name: A.E.G.I.S. (Alternative Energy Generator and Impulse System)

Primary Form: The A.E.G.I.S.’s primary form is that of a scout rifle capable of single fire at long ranges, though not as far as a sniper. It comes with a 8x magnification lens that flips up from the body. The gun in general is fairly small but the barrel is especially thin for a rifle. Ammunition is loaded in from the bottom like most rifles.

Dust Functions: Dust coated rounds can be loaded into the gun and fired at its’ targets, but beyond that, the gun itself can be loaded with propulsion dust to extend the range of its rounds even further and faster, almost reaching sniper distances.

Secondary Form: In its transformation, the A.E.G.I.S. transforms from a rifle into a short sword and dagger. The scope of the gun folds down and in it’s place, a blade extends outward along all of the top part of the gun. The stock and body of the rifle can then be disconnected from the barrel, which also has a blade extended, though on both sides and with a hidden handle now exposed, turning it into a dagger.

Dust Functions: The sword can now be loaded with pure dust through its cartridge, giving the blade dust effects such as fire, electricity, ice, propulsion, and repulsion. The dagger has no dust functions. On the non-bladed side of the sword, there are several dust thrusters that, when the trigger is pulled, cause the the weapon to swing insanely fast. However, it’s limited to the number of dust cartridges are loaded. Up to seven cartridges can be loaded at once.

History: Brooke made this at Sanctum Academy.
