CHARACTER

Name:
Ayburn Parda

Age:
19

Species and Gender:
Male, Red panda faunus

Symbol:
An eclipse with a red-panda landing in front the moon.

Occupation: Second Year Beacon Student

Appearance:
Ayburn Parda is a fairly tall guy at around six foot. Broad shoulders with a slim yet nimble build. He sports short auburn red hair and a couple of faunus ears. Matching his ears is a fairly long and fluffy tail, which he does use for aid in balance. Other than that Ayburn is always wearing his pale grey hoodie even if the rest of the ensemble changes. Cold weather usually leads to him adding a coat between the armour and hoodie. His weapons, if on him, are connected to his strap buckles at the chest and belt.

History:
Ayburn Parda was born and raised through the early days of his youth with his mother in a coastal village in the continent of Anima. He had a simple enough upbringing as his mother, Ashe, did the best she could and his father, Maran, was away being a huntsman all over the world. His youth was happy. Simple. His time in the village was quiet enough with only minor issues and the odd Grimm attack which bread a certain love for huntsman and huntresses. In his early days Ayburn knew he wanted to be a huntsman, he had a yearning to help and a will to go the distance to do it. His dad, in the brief times he was able to be at home, didn’t help in quelling the growing want to be a huntsman either. Telling stories of his time away, time fighting the Grimm and tales of different Grimm. By his early teens Ayburn made it clear to his family what path he wanted to take in life. He wanted to be a part of those stories, help where he could, be the hero in the legend if he could or just see the legend go down.

This decision lead to a few things happening in his life. His father took less time away so that he could train his son in what being a huntsman was before he even set foot in a junior academy for huntsman. He designed the weapons that would become his most favored things in the world, ‘Hook and Sinker’, based on his father's ‘Draw and Quarter’. Finally when he began training with those weapons he discovered his semblance with was not dissimilar to his dads. Though in his early days he was taught about what being a hunter was. What it meant he had to be and the morals that came with it. How you couldn’t always help, but you should always try. This set of training continued to when Ayburn reached the age of fourteen, the time when he had to head to an academy.

Signal was his choice, Beacon was his goal. Yet Vale… Vale was an unknown to Ayburn. In his village was small everyone knew everyone. Vale was large, sprawling, and nobody knew anybody by comparison. This sudden change in lifestyle was change was jarring but not as jarring as the other things he was introduced to Vale. He’d heard tales of Faunus oppression although he never saw it first hand so in a strange way he didn’t fully believe it. He did here. He did now, seeing it first hand his juvenile naivety was washed away. It grew to be soft spot that he spent time contemplating on, and if he witnessed it he usually grew annoyed. Why was he any worse than the people giving him stink eye, or raising prices when he suddenly got to the front of the line? It got him into various unpleasant situations and he usually got the blame, because you believe the shop keep over another faunus kid, right? In time he only intervened if it would be productive though. If not he’d leave it be and go mope and vent at someone else, usually a friend but he’d vented to relative strangers who oft became friends in an odd way. He still got into public disagreements but he gained a new cool, made sure he could walk away as the better party with nobody getting hurt. All in all he learnt from his mistakes and bettered himself.

In his time at Signal Ayburn did pretty well. Fairly high grades and a respectable skill level. He made friends and had fun. There was the typical drama within his friends groups, and his small bouts of activism, but he managed to balance his learning, training and relationships rather well. Although sleep was a thing he began trying to catch when ever he could, but being the Faunus he was, that may have always been the case. So as the time in Signal flew on by he eventually sat his exams, passed them, and applied to Beacon staying on track for where he wanted to end up. He was all in all proud, living a life he could call his own, being a person he honestly liked being.

When he eventually got in at the age of eighteen he was overjoyed with his application to Beacon being accepted and headed there at speed. In his eyes he’d made it, but would he make it to becoming a full hunter? He’d just have to stick it out and see, wouldn’t he.

Personality:
Ayburn is mellow, gentle and kind, the sociable type for the most part. He values honesty and compassion but is not against lying and a tiny bit of malice if he deems it needed. He’s rather mellow on the whole but that in no way means he doesn’t have his excitable fiery moments, usually ending in clumsy antics and his cheesy grin that he will no doubt never live down.

Ayburn is protective of people, very protective. The kind of guy to stick his neck out for tiny things for his friends. He’s going to help whether you know him or not. He’s also the definition of a centralist, tries to be unbiased in conflict and isn't opposed to taking that step back and looking at if he’s in the wrong. Which brings us to his quite humble nature. He’s not the best, never will be, but damned if he’s going to try his best at being a hunter, friend or just being a nice person. He’s also quite the extrovert. If he’s alone in some high place (Just Faunus things) chances are he’s talking with someone on his scroll or has his face in his school work. Not being the biggest fan of simply being alone Ayburn tries his hardest to not be.

In short, Ayburn is the confidant. If you’re his friend and need a hand he’ll be there, no matter how small the issue is. He’ll help if he can. And the poor kid likes people, everyone has a lesson and a story to teach. Why not listen and help their journey if he can?

Aura and Semblance:
Ayburn has a Auburn aura resembling his mellow attitude with that hint of fiery passion. Unluckly he’s cursed with a weaker aura than most. Taking hits is a lot more dangerous for him.

Ayburn semblance is being able to ‘blink’ as it's usually referred to. Small teleports within a localised area or around thirty five feet. He’s able to easily and seemingly effortlessly move from place to place in the blink of an eye, leaving small bright embers drifting in his wake, like ash falling from a fire. It does takes some mental effort to shift, requiring a line of sight to his location so he always gives a visual cue to his blinks. On top of this he can enter and exit in different positions and remove momentum or at least hamper or change its direction. For example if he were to fall from a height he could blink and sling shot himself upwards or teleport to the ground and not have to take the impact of a landing.

His blinks in themselves however drain his aura quickly. Around ten percent per blink. Meaning he usually caps himself out at around five per conflict if he can help it, but he can blink ten times before he depletes his aura pool entirely, and in Ayburns case gains a sudden bout of rather major motion sickness along with it.

Combat Behavior:
Often using height and placement to his advantage, Ayburn is an expert in a duel and a exceptional flanker. He’s nimble, quick and talented but takes hits harder than most due to his untrained and lacking aura. This means he relies more on his mobility and nimble nature in combat, prefering to dodge attacks rather than tank them. His faunus nature has lead to an increased speed and an enviable adaptability at climbing, making verticality and rough terrain a non issue for him, along with the usual minor improvements to hearing.

Alas, Ayburn seriously lacks is at long range, two hard hitting revolvers are too inaccurate at large distances along with his bullets being oft near pointless even if he were to miraculously get a hit. To further this Ayburn is a dualist, meaning he prefers to fight one to one or when numbers are even or on his side. Meaning against more than one trained opponent he’ll struggle big time without help. Masses of Grimm he’s not to bad against, fighting beasts is easier than people. Finally, armour is too cumbersome. He’s not the strongest person in the world and excessive armour would impede his mobility. So he chooses to take only a metal and leather pauldron to protect his shoulders and relies on his reflexes and dexterity to make up for the rest. Which they do… Mostly.

WEAPON

Name:
Hook and Sinker

Primary Form:
The primary form of his weapons are two large revolvers with a sharp bayonet/knife underneath each. They have a five bullet capacity each housing .44 calibre bullets in a cylinder that can be fully ejected for ease of loading.

Secondary Form:
The knife like underbelly juts out to double its length along with the handle rotating back slightly to make them operate as dual short swords.

Dust Functions:
Ayburn is prone to modifying bullets to give an ‘on-impact’ effect by adding dust into the bullet itself, but by doing this it often rends any penetration by the bullet as null. Also makes obtaining them difficult and expensive so he usually only has five of each on-hand (So one cylinder of each) during a fight, if he has time to prepare he oft fills a couple more spare cylinders. He does carry more regular bullets however. The dust he’s prone to using:

Fire: The fire bullets simply explode on impact. A small cubic foot explosion best for antagonising and knocking opponents of their feet if unprepared. Good for busting armour too.

Ice: Ice bullets simply explode into a cubic foot of ice, great for entrapping feet and limbs to give an advantage. Great for holding people in place for a moment.

Lightning: The lightning bullet acts as a taser on impact, sending a jolt of electricity through an opponent. Nothing fatal just enough to paralyze an opponent for a moment or two. Though depending on the opponent even these may not work.

History:
Back when he was young he dreamed of making weapons, hell what kid didn’t. So he designed Hook and Skinker in his youth. Finally when he was old enough, and he had a clear drive to become a hunter, his father made the pieces with him and showed him how to put them together. They have a personal connection to many nights spent making parts and the following months of being taught to use them. To say they’re special to Ayburn is an understatement. They’re probably his most prized possession, a token and extension of himself.
