Title: First Year 2v2 bracket- Semifinals: Shiroe & Reginald vs. Setsuna & Calen
Post by: Skylia on August 30, 2018, 08:05:14 PM
As most know, the Vytal Festival is done within a tight schedule in order to get all the fights in, but also insure that all students would not be missing classes once they had returned to their academies. That’s why it’s rather strange that there was nothing coming from the announcer’s booth around the scheduled start for the next match. ”-now start the-?! Wait, has the mic been muted the whole time? Prim! Why didn’t you warn me!?” Hunter’s voice starts to drip with sadness as his super hyped up intro didn’t air.

Despite being caught off guard herself, Prim would not allow her massive ego to be scarred by such a disgrace. Defensively, she retorted ”Don’t look at me! It’s your stupid mic so you should take responsibility for its problems!” Crossing her arms, she would simply let Hunter redo the intro to possibly redeem himself.

Downtrodden, Hunter used a less hyped intro, ”Alright then. We have the duo Shiroe and Reggie, and if you ask me, they certainly look like they belong in Atlas. Alas, they’re Beacon students.” It seems that Hunter would’ve had more to add if his hyped up intro wasn’t wasted so early on.

Sighing in disbelief at the display of pitiful actions before her, Prim would take it upon herself to finish the introduction. ”Yes, well, I guess I’ll introduce the other pair then. On the other side, we have Calen and Setsuna, who’ve shown us that they mean business in their first round match. We’ll see firsthand if they’ll be able to take down The Gentleman and...The Guy!” Not wanting to entirely discredit Reginald, she would simply give him no praise; she did have some integrity, after all!

”Alright, I guess since we introduced these losers, we can start the envirospinner then.” Seemingly bounced back from his rather sad state, Hunter’s voice quickly filled with some energy as he moved to get the match started.

A large holographic image of a lottery machine appears on all sides of the arena, with two spinners. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words. It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on Ice and Tundra (Congrats King & Monster, you get more ice).

The floor of the arena lowered and, in its place, arose two new floors. As this happened, a large clear dome also arose and encased the two biomes. On Shiroe & Reggie’s side, a sizeable iceberg with a notably flat top would appear in the middle of a freezing cold body of water. Connecting the doorway where the combatants enter to the iceberg would be a thin bridge made of thick ice. A similar bridge also connected the iceberg to the opposing biome. On Setsuna & Calen’s side, a sparse amount of short trees would rise along with a thick blanket of snow on the ground. On top of these two biomes, a somewhat intense wind would begin to blow, whipping up a blizzard to significantly reduce visibility (YES IT MEANS SPECTATORS CAN’T REALLY SEE, BUT THEY CAN EAT MY ASS AND BLAME GUS).

(A coin flip has decided that Shiroe will get the first post, followed by their partner. The arena size is identical to that of the team combat arena in the show, however, it features scaled down biomes to fit the size. Good luck, and may the best team win.)

It was baffling how a pair like Shiroe and Reggie got as far as they did in the tourney. Dumb luck? Maybe, but Shiroe didn’t want it to end any time soon. The last time their team did something significant was during initiation, and even that wasn’t anything to brag about.

Atlas was Shiroe’s home city, and even the site of his family’s business, before they expanded of course. It was odd how chilly he felt, being a resident himself, though several months at Beacon probably acclimated him to the warmer temperatures.

Walking into the arena with his sword at its sheath and several vials across his belt in packs, he was more or less prepared for their upcoming opponents.

Runes adorned Shiroe’s few armor plates, decorating them with archaic symbols similar to those on his blade. Injecting dust into them would allow him all sorts of feats but only in conjunction with his semblance. His sword glowed faintly in its sheath as he unconsciously checked on the feed but slowly dimmed back down as he assured himself.

“Reggie, try not to insult our opponents too much this time. We’re back home after all and you don’t want any familiar faces picking up that sort of behavior.” He said, wondering if his teammate was listening at all.

Shiroe would offer a short nod once his opponents appeared, and a much practiced smile. Their progress was questionable but Shiroe wasn’t going to let a potential win out the window.

Reginald entered the arena with pomp and confidence, grinning as he did. Despite predictions and mockery from all sides, especially from Silica, they had made it to the semi-finals. It was their - his shot at proving himself. To everyone - his classmates, his team, those in the school he despised - but most importantly, to his father.

The purple snot bubble snickered to himself as he perceived himself as the 'gentleman' in Prim's introduction - he felt a bit sorry for how rudely she had introduced Shiroe, though. A little.

"You need not remind me, I know the deal. I have plenty at stake here. I intend to take this ser-"

The 'poor' fuckboy was unable to finish his thought as he slipped on the end of the ice bridge, falling flat on his ass. It was with horror he then realized exactly what the battlefield entailed for him as the winds picked up, sending snow in his unprotected face and almost completely blocking vision after but a few dozen meters.

"...fuck."

Calen sneezed loudly as he and his teammate walked down out into the stadium followed by an equally loud sigh as the gaunt boy became aware of their stadium terrain. ’Just my luck I suppose.’ Calen remarked his tone lowed by both a blocked nose and a rather genuinely dejected outlook. Their first fight hadn’t exactly been easy but they had finally made it to the finals, to the big stage and no one would see them. If Calen was spiritual he would see it has karmic punishment for all his wrongdoing but instead the gaunt boy was simply looking forward to the next Faunus he can bully. Calen had a run in with Reginald before but they didn’t exchange much and Calen had his hands full with a certain succubus to pay the other boy much mind. Shiroe was a complete unknown however so Calen was still on his guard for whatever the other students may throw at him.

The thick fog both provided Calen and Setsuna a powerful advantage but also compounded Calen’s ill health, the damp heavy air playing havoc with the gaunt boy’s mucus-filled lungs. ’It looks like outmaneuvering could be a good strategy this time around, I’m afraid I don’t have much information on these two, other than Master Reginald is a lot like myself without my redeeming qualities.’ Calen offered his voice still heavy and punctuated with small coughs. Surveying the terrain around them Calen started to slowly move from tree to tree, doing a very good job at staying visibly hidden has he approached the halfway point of the field. Unfortunately, he did a significantly less competent job at hiding himself audibly, and his semi-regular coughing could be heard across the entire stadium.

It was going to be an uphill battle but that only meant information was going to be more important than ever. This combined with Calen’s ability to disappear into the fog if attacked gave him the confidence to range ahead with saying a word to his leader. He’d make sure Setsuna was there for the actual encounter however, the fog may have robbed Calen of the main audience but there are still three people he could show off to and he wasn’t going to let it get much less than that.

Status: Sick: Starting at 90% aura and -1% to damage done, I’ll calculate it.

“Just because the tournament is held in Atlas doesn't mean that every stadium they throw at me should be either water or ice based." Setsuna just complained when he saw their next stage of combat. Following their victory over Billy and Smokey, his partner had fallen foul of a horrible-sounding cold, while he wasn't feeling top notch either. What they both needed now was a steaming hot bath, maybe even a sauna to relax the muscles. Definitely not another opportunity to get dunked in freezing water. Judging by the aura gauge already prominent on the screen, Calen really wasn’t feeling it right now.

What Calen told him next didn’t make Setsuna feel much better about his situation either. ”If that’s the best we can do, then we’ll roll with it. I’m pretty sure I can hear your coughing anywhere on the field so I’ll go the other way. If you meet them just go for it and I’ll back you up.” he told Calen before beginning to circle the ring of the arena, making much less noise than his teammate but more visible despite the blizzard considering the colour of his blades. So an absolute pain in the arse without…Calen’s swordsmanship. Remnant forbid I get a sparring partner with decency for once.

Shiroe sighed at Reggie's flop and helped him up with his free hand. "You draw them in, I'll get some runes in place." He said, only loud enough for Reggie to hear.

Watching his step he gingerly walked forwards and offered a quick bow, his sword tip hovering above the tip of the ice. Using snow on ice on ice would best fit the circumstance, but several others seemed suitable as well. Wind could blow snow, but the artificial blizzard was already doing that for them. Shiroe started by running towards the bridge area and prepared a rune on his sword, using the cover on the blizzard to cover his more subtle movements. Tapping wind on his blade he drew and blew a powerful gust as his blade left its sheath.

Hoping to use the attack as distraction, and maybe ward them from using the ice bridge, Shiroe knelt on one knee and touched the ground in front of him with one hand, tracing a rune while loosing a bit of dust onto it. More ice, should they step on it it'd freeze their legs in place, at least ideally. Calling for Reggie, Shiroe shouted, "Attack!"

"Hrm. This terrain won't be doing me any favors. I can barely bloody see anything..." Reginald muttered, absentmindedly accepting Shiroe's assistance, though not standing up fully, instead remaining crouched.  Reginald took Solace in both hands and raised it, aiming towards the bridge as well.

He couldn't spot his opponents yet, but this gave him a pretty decent chance to prepare. For them to use the bridge would be risky and leave them all too open - chances are, their opponents would try and jump the gap somehow if they could. Reginald had to be ready to fire, even if he saw them do just that-

Cough, cough.

And, despite the lack sight, that cough had given him a vague target. When Shiroe shouted for him to attack, the regal turd did just that, sending 4 shots in the direction of the cough. Granted, there was no telling if they'd hit their marks, but with any luck they could force their opponent to advance to where they'd be easier to hit.

(4 shots at 5%, but inaccurate due to lack of sight)

Managing to slip past the middle bridge before Shiroe's attack Calen was nevertheless domed by one of Reginald's wild shots. Managing to duck under the remaining fire Calen was still put on the back foot by the volley. Understanding that he needs to quickly go on the offensive if they were going to have a chance here Calen recovered quickly and kept moving. Luckily just as Calen's own coughing gave away his position, Reginald's shots revealed his. Using his semblance Calen blitzed along the ice to where he heard the shots originate, delivering a savage slash with his glaive aimed at Reginald's legs as he glided past. Fighting on even terms even with Setsuna at his back would be a difficult proposition so Calen was instead trying to do his best to whittle down the opposition before it came to an open brawl.

After Calen's attack, his momentum carried him back into the fog, hopefully out of sight of any retaliatory range attacks. Calen had to get as much advantage as he could out of the fog otherwise his sickness would magnify his already significant weakness to range attacks. Continuing to circle Reginald Calen let out a series of loud whistles, if his position was already going to be revealed by his coughing he might as well control when it was revealed somewhat.

The whistle signified to Setsuna as well as his opponents where he was but it would also become a crutch, meaning that when the whistling stops they would hopefully be even more disorientated. The only flaw of this strategy was Shiroe, Calen still hadn't seen anything of the unknown in this fight and although calling it worrying for him would be inaccurate it annoyed Calen greatly. As someone who always wanted to be in control, the fog was becoming as much a curse as it was a blessing, denying him information just as it denied his opponents.

Despite being no tactician it was fairly obvious what had transpired. Calen’s position was blown and he was currently engaging at least one member of the opposing team. Thanks to Calen’s whistle Setsuna was also generously provided a somewhat accurate location of his teammate and hopefully also the enemy. Knowing Calen’s skirmisher style, he’d likely be doing hits and runs, aided by the blizzard (the one good thing about this accursed battlefield).

This left ASTC’s team leader pondering his next action. Even knowing the enemies’s position, both sides were at a standstill. Knowledge is power, it is often said, and Setsuna just didn’t have any knowledge about his opponents (no, knowing one of them was a dickhead didn’t count). However, if he could isolate one member from another like his last match, Setsuna was fairly confident in Calen’s abilities, sick or otherwise, to be able to handle the other opponent. Hell, Calen went up against a bona-fide immovable object and came out scathed, but with the upper hand.

Knowing this, his shield detached from his left shoulder binder with a mechanical whirr, perhaps detectable by a keen set of ears, though likely muffled by the gusts of wind. Opting to bridge the gap without actually crossing the bridge lest an ambush was in place by the other member via a Aura-boosted leap, he slowly made his way toward Calen’s whistles, shielding his body.

Things weren't going to go well unless they did something about the fog, Shiroe thought. Though familiar to the cold, Shiroe never did venture too much in poor weather, it was unheard of and frankly suicidal if not for the controlled conditions.

Being a few feet away from Reggie, Shiroe couldn't react to Calen's attack. The fog made it hard to see, and unfortunately, also hard to hear with the blizzard and all Shiroe could make out of the whistling over the sound of icy gusts was the occasional toot. Reggie seemed to be perfect bait, unironically enough. With his loud nature and rather striking coloration it seemed like he was the opponent's first pick.

Racking his brain for a plan Shiroe grabbed a hold of a vial of gravity dust and started forming a rune on it, he didn't have much of this type, being a rather complicated mixture, but if it meant this or clearing the fog he'd prefer the former.

He stayed quiet in the blizzard, keeping Reggie in sight but not in his immediate vicinity to avoid being a larger target. He heard the whistling again, now coming from a different direction. Were they circling them perhaps or were they spread out? It was disorienting but after a little thought it made sense in this weather and lack of visibility. At the next sound of a whistle Shiroe tossed the vial ahead of the sound, wondering if they really were circling or just spread out and moving. It wouldn't reveal his position, thankfully, unless they came close enough, but it would cause enough of a disturbance to at least disrupt their rhythm.

Not a moment later whilst in midair, the gravity vial exploded, or rather imploded on itself in a rather dark explosion of gray and black. Air and snow jerked towards the epicenter of the explosion and quickly dispersed right after, wanting to normalize, and should be able to knock someone off their feet if they strode too close.

Keeping his sword ready, Shiroe prepared a force rune on his legs, readying to lunge from the disturbed fog should the opponents reveal themselves. Should the fog clear, even for a split second in that area, he hoped that Reggie would open fire and draw them closer with his jeers and taunts.

Reginald would not know if any of his shots landed, but he knew well enough that they alone could not stop their opponents - he wasn't aware of what Shiroe was doing, but he doubted he'd be able to do much either.

He didn't know his opponents that well, though he had encountered Calen before - during their free-for-all between him, Reginald, Akel and Catalina. Reginald had thoroughly lost, though he would not admit it - he had been at a disadvantage, after all. Even so, he struggled to remember much about the guy's fighting style. He was a swordsman, and a good one - in an open melee, Reginald would be at a disadvantage. Shiroe, however... He might be able to face him well enough.

Any consideration on Reginald's part is cut short as he yelps, struck in the legs as something - someone - leapt at him from the fog. Reginald could barely hold his balance on the icy surface, nearly doing the splits in an attempt to not fall flat on his back again. This was bad - preoccupied with how bad the terrain and weather was for him, he hadn't considered how advantageous it could be for his opponents.

Reginald briefly clutched his cape. "A hit-and-run from the fog against a ranged fighter? And here I thought I might be facing an opponent with some honor!" he shouted before opening fire as he heard his opponent whistle - three more shots, aimed about a foot ahead of each whistle. It was hard to properly gauge the distance and the direction the sound was coming from, but, well, it was all Reggie had - at least until his opponent would charge him again.

’Says the person using a rifle.’ Calen responded. Calen was a little annoyed at Reginald’s taunts even though they where perfectly accurate, Calen was going to be hardly a honourable opponent. More shots wisped through the fog and although Calen was careful to move the moment he made noise Reginald still managed to clip him twice. Grimacing at the pain and the cold Calen had to keep moving to keep some semblance of warmth as well as for protection. Reginald was rather obvious but there was still another combatant who hadn’t revealed themselves, Shiroe, the only unknown in this entire fight, and that did unnerve Calen significantly. Not immediately rushing to the aid of their partner showed a larger degree of forward thinking than Calen was looking forward to dealing with.

For the millionth time, Calen thanked his incredible balance, skating around ice was difficult but not impossible with his years of dancing and momentum based semblance gave him a huge advantage in that environment. But that advantage would mean nothing if Calen was forced to remain on the defensive and as such, he needed to continue attacking even if that would leave him exposed. Rushing in again at Reginald with his semblance Calen feinted low before flipping up for a heavy overhead attack aimed square at his opponent’s head. Losing his forward momentum allowed Calen to put a lot more powerful strike but it leaves him more exposed for a counter attack. ’But if you want me closer, all you had to do was ask.’ Calen taunted as he sent forth the bone-crushing blow.

Being forcibly yanked in a certain direction like someone pulling hard on a leash certainly gave Setsuna a fright, but his defensive posture provided enough of a low centre of gravity for him not to fall over. More importantly,  for a moment the sudden visibility from the fog and snow being cleared gave him a clear image of a tall boy with a dark blue vest standing some distance away. It clearly wasn’t Calen, that much was obvious, but whether they saw him was another question yet to be discerned.

Casting his mind back to the beginning of the match brought back Calen’s words of “Outmanoeuvring could be a good strategy this time round”. Other concerns flitted to the forefront of his thought process, but the one that was given immediate priority was to actually be the aggressor for once - or at least start the engagement by applying instant pressure - something that couldn’t normally be done with his defensive style. Unless he decided to pull the trigger on his Semblance.

With little time for more consideration Setsuna activated his Semblance and lunged forward, body beginning to glow a luminous pink which would reveal his position to the nearest person, though hopefully not before his speed let him reach his opponent. Leading with his right hand brandishing his sword he turned it into a feint right before entering parry range, instead bringing his shield round for a hard shield bash aimed to try and wind Shiroe.

Shiroe noticed the oncoming person bathed in pink glow and readied his saber. Thanks to his improvised gravity grenade earlier he managed to catch sight of the figure in the mist. Not a moment later, he heard Calen attack Reggie. He wanted to assist, but he himself had a threat to deal with right now and it seemed to be closing in as well.

"Sorry Reggie but I need to deal with something else for the moment." He muttered, runes glowing on his legs and then his sword. The opponent showed himself, a rather well built male of roughly the same age, and equipped with both sword and shield. If there was one thing Shiroe was sure of it was that getting past that shield would be tricky to say the least.

As the incoming attack came, Shiroe held his saber up high to deflect the sword but he fell for the feint, barely getting an arm up in time to protect himself. The shield bash came hard, enough to knock the wind out of Shiroe and cause him to stagger back in spite of his leg runes. By instinct he kicked back and disappeared into the mist again only to tumble into the snow but a few feet away.

"The rifle is the most noble of weapons!" Reginald called out, almost sounding... genuinely offended. As Calen went for his overhead strike, Reginald was half-prepared. He had been expecting - hoping for, even - a simple attack such as a slash or a stab, but his plan remained the same. Reginald tosses his cape off of his shoulders and towards his attacker, having removed the latches on his shoulder just before.

With his cape in the air, his next move was to lunge towards Calen with his bayonet - while the overhead strike had made it easier for Reginald to pass by his own cape, it also meant that Calen's attack was not fully stopped. Reginald was still crashed into and sent back across the dirt, gripping his rifle as he was. He felt the cold harsher than before now with his cape gone, but he wasn't ready to give up yet.

"Do not underestimate me, swordsman!" he called out, taking out one of his daggers but not yet rising from the ground. "I'm no worse in melee as I am at ranged!"

He really wasn't.

Calen only grinned at Reginald’s first response. It was clear that getting under his opponent’s skin would be a lot easier than in some of his previous fights. The cloak was a clever move, it not only weakened Calen’s attack but it also made it almost impossible to dodge the coming jab. Calen may be better suited to fighting on the ice than most but that didn’t mean that he was confident moving sideways blindfolded when his ankle being a couple degrees off would send him crashing down. Even more so than Reginald Calen was feeling the impacts of the cold, his own emaciated form and sickness meant that if he would go down on to the ice he would be slow to get back up if he could at all.

Reginald’s cape move was so clever in fact that Calen decided he would return the favour at one point, keeping the cape loose in his left hand the gaunt boy shifted his weapon into it’s sword form, impaling it into the ice for a quick turn without losing too much speed and continued back for another attack. The glaive would still be the optimal weapon in this situation, its longer reach and power would be even more impactful in an environment without stable footing but the sword would make using the cape easier, and Calen wanted to use the cape. Although it would appear attacking wasn’t going to be on cards just yet as Reginald continued to lay down on the ice. Approaching slowly Calen extending his sword back into its glaive form be still held the blade side and offered the handle to Reginald to help him to his feet.

’I’m sure you are a terror to behold but let’s make sure your fit enough to show me. You’ll catch your death laying on the ice like that.’ Calen responded, having to rush out the last few words before a coughing fit took him for a few moments. Both hands full Calen turned his face into his sword side shoulder to minimise his contagion spreading. It was a genuine offer of assistance, for Calen having a good fight was more important than winning anyway and of course who could really challenge a sickly stick-thin swordsman? No one obviously, at least that is what Calen thought. But that didn’t mean Calen was just going to take a counter attack if his offer was refused and the gaunt boy was ready to dash away at a moments notice.

Although he couldn’t see him by the sound of it appeared like his teammate, Setsuna had engaged Shiroe. By the sound of it using his semblance to do it. Calen let out a hissing sound, it would not have been his strategy but his leader did have a habit of being a little too direct. Spending a little time feeling out your opponent, finding out what they are capable of before revealing your true power would be Calen’s tactic, doubly so with such a crushing drawback as Setsuna’s. Still, that meant Calen and Setsuna would have to finish this fight quickly before it effectively becomes a 2v1. Only after Reginald was on his feet obviously.

Before his attack went through Shiroe’s guard, Setsuna noticed the long white sabre brandished in a defensive position, nearly blending in with the snow and fog surrounding the arena if not for its glow. Without it’s telltale light, he might struggle to even see the blade, especially if the conditions were to become worse.

The shield bash connected, sending a jarring sensation through his back and a small smile across Setsuna’s face. His opponent fell back with unexpected speed but unfortunately lost his footing, giving him an opportunity to continue his assault. However, a problem posed itself. There was no angle of slash that was particularly effective against a prone opponent, and the options that posed themselves in that split second could be evaded simply by rolling out of the way. Still, hoping to keep his opponent from standing up, Setsuna dove after Shiroe, stabbing his sword downward with the intent of attacking his stomach.

Shiroe took a moment to regain his sense. After tumbling into the snow he was on his back, in a small hole caused by his fall. He still had his sword, fortunately, and his runes were still intact, meaning his wasn't exactly defenseless either. His mind went to Reggie, probably still holding of Calen, a youth of similar yet less arrogant demeanor. How was he faring, better? Worse than himself? He had no clue, but as it stood without watching each other's backs they'd be at a continued disadvantage.

Setsuna burst out of the mist not a moment sooner and Shiroe could do nothing but bring his sword up for a parry. White clashed against green and Shiroe deflected the blade to his side, his saber grinding against Setsuna's to the point where sparks flew. In the same moment he brought up his leg, aiming to catch Setsuna from below with a Rune powered kick, unfortunately aimed at his groin. Had it been any other situation he wold have opted to flee, but being on his back, and having no options to speak of, he had no choice but to resort to such a shameful maneuver. He just hoped it wouldn't be too disgraceful.

"I am more prepared than you might think!" Reginald groaned out, now in a low crouch. With his rifle held in one hand and his dagger in the other. He then, however, does something rather unorthodox - rather than standing up to face his swordsman foe at a close range, he slams his palm against the slider on Solace's stock - the weapon quickly transforms as the bayonet folds into a bipod and a scope forms on the top. As it does so, the boy extends the arm holding the weapon... And slams the dagger down just next to it, through the shirt, nearly clipping himself in the process.

"If I do get sick - well, hopefully I won't be as awful for it as you are!" he finally adds before firing just once at Calen's center of mass.

Calen allowed himself a small grim at Reginald’s bravado although it quickly evaporated as he saw what his opponent was trying to do. The gaunt boy was furious as Reginald’s sniper shot cleanly hit Calen in his chest, his eyes wide with naked rage at the depths his opponent seemed to so quickly sink to. Refusing Calen’s offer of assistance and rising themselves or even spending the time resting would be more respectable than this. The crowd seemed to agree as a few boos could be heard coming from the stands. Although sportsmanship wasn’t a counting factor in winning the Vytal festival it was still strongly encouraged and taking advantage of said sportsmanship felt a bitter taste in many viewers mouths.  Calen wasn’t in the right head space to exploit the opportunity, to pretend to be wounded and confused, to really milk the moment for all it was worth because none of that mattered now. Rage shot through Calen and quick like wildfire a blazing heat washed over him clouding his judgement but massively intensifying his assault.

’You had for chance Master Reginald.’ Calen began, every word dripping with the utmost disdain. ’It was so unfortunate you decided to waste it here.’ Calen’s aura flared up and he leapt towards his still mostly downed opponent raising his glaive high above his head for a series of crushing overhead attacks aiming at pummeling Reginald into and then through the ice. As Calen advanced his approach was barred by a huge torrent of air as the full force of Reginald’s semblance was flung at him. Most of the already slowly dissipating fog was blown away clearly revealing all fighters the the crowd. Calen didn’t move. Reginald wouldn’t catch him off guard again so soon as Calen activated his semblance to remain perfectly still for a few moments and sending more arcs of green light into the air. Breathing hard, that stunt had cost him but it had been worth it. Reginald was on his knees and Calen was almost free to do whatever he wanted to the out of his depth marksman.

For now, that was pain. A trio of heavy downward strikes meant to split open any last defences Reginald might have left before Calen will truly get to work. Although it wasn’t immediately obvious to outsiders Calen had lost even his small desire to win beyond his pride and instead was completely subsumed by the desire to make Reginald pay for denying him, for betraying his trust, for disrespecting him. Most of his elegant movements remained but Calen was clearly showing no regard for his or anyone's safety, a deadly strategy for both fighters as now Calen would take everything Reginald had head on to prove his own overwhelming strength against his opponent. Although it’s success was far from certain.

"Dust almighty-" Setsuna let go of his saber and threw himself to one side, with the end result of the kick half-connecting on his thigh. With no time to really control where he was going to land, the boy landed roughly in the snow and rolled a little before getting back up, pulling a dagger bit from his shield to replace his sword, now buried in the snow next to Shiroe. "That wasn't very nice of you." Setsuna remarked, holding the dagger in front of his chest as he gave Shiroe enough time to stand back up - daggers were even worse against a prone opponent, though he should have taken a different approach in the first place.

Regardless of whether Shiroe decided to take the opportunity to stand, Setsuna swept forward again, aided by his Semblance's speed to once more dive on his opponent. With his right hand he aimed two fast, darting cuts at his opponent's waist while his left reached for his sword before bringing it down diagonally across Shiroe's chest.

It felt like a mad scramble moving from his cold bed of snow to his feet but Shiroe back springed back into action with his sword held high. Unfortunately he didn't have enough time to prepare a rune and saw two daggers fly at him from his opponent's direction.

The first dagger flew aside with a flick of his blade but the second slammed into his waist while the speed enhanced Setsuna dove towards him. Unable to react in time, and with no runes to counter the blow, Shiroe only managed to bring a dull static guard that deflected the blade from his chest to his other shoulder.

In such close quarters and his blade stuck in a high guard, Shiroe aimed a pommel strike straight into Setsuna's face while charging the runes on his legs. Success or not he kicked back to regain some breathing room as his eyes darted looking for his teammate.

And just like that, he had provoked his opponent. Two can play those mind games, Shiroe! As his opponent went in for his strikes, Reginald set in motion the next part of his plan. That dagger he nearly stabbed himself with wasn't for show - it was meant to keep himself grounded for his next move.

When Shiroe was close enough for his strike, Reginald fired up his semblance - a chill ran across entire form, his clothes flapping about and his body forced down as ice-cold winds littered with flecks of snow picked up around him, strong gusts flowing from his form in every direction. The plan was rather simple in execution - he intended to throw Calen off-balance, or better yet, knock him down and away where he could be easy pickings with Solace.

He really bloody hoped it would work.

(No attacks made aside from semblance use.)

I still think this was a really silly idea because now I basically can't post. So it's just the second half of my above post.
