When Bobby first go the Beacon he never figured that life would ever get so boring. He didn't know if it was because he was not exhilarated about reading essays on the lives of generals during the Great War or if it was because he wasn't a crazy lunatic that looked to challenge random people to fights. He figured that he could always make himself for attractive to hyper aggressive meatheads that would like to bash his face in but his past bad experiences with those types convinced him that it was a bad idea. He also hated those kinds of people on principle since they tended to bully those that were weaker than them when they get bored which he knew from personal experience could be a terrible ordeal for person being picked on back home. It was pretty much torture for Bobby when he was younger.
His grandmother however had a different opinion on the whole situation. She just figured that he was over reacting and needed to take the bull by the horns and confront the bully like his late grandfather would have done. Her scheme would have gotten him beaten into hamburger if his semblance hadn't activated. Her overbearing personality and her tendency to use his dead granddad as a measuring stick is usually why he avoided calling home. He loved his grandma very much but it can be a bit much to be compared to a supposed 7'0'' hulk of a man who was god's greatest gift to humanity. His grandfather had died before he was born so he didn't get an impression of him for himself and his father seemed content in letting his grandmother drone on and on instead of giving his two cents about the man that raised him.
So instead of going through a call of his grandmother dominating the conversation while his parents sit quietly or fighting some hyped up knucklehead who's shoe size was larger than his IQ he decided to chill in the library and surf the web on one of the computers until he found something that pique his interest. He knew he could probably walk around somewhere in the city of Vale but he wasn't that familiar with the city since he was raised in a small village.
