Axus Windico
« on: October 01, 2016, 11:11:07 AM »
CHARACTER

Name: Axus Windico

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Male Human

Symbol: Silver hand holding a dark green fleur de lis slightly tilted clockwise

Occupation: Beacon Academy first-year

Appearance: Stands 6’1”, iron brown hair, dark green eyes (like his aura), otherwise fairly generic facial features. Is almost always smiling or laughing. Either wears his initial plate armor (preferably with all it's plates) or his uniform with thin armor underneath. However, there is no armor on his head or his right hand. he claims the armor is more comfortable but really he is just more used to it.

History:
Childhood:
Axus had a fairly uneventful childhood growing up in Mistral up until age five, when his mother fell ill and died before he really understood what death was. After this, his father went from a kind soul to a depressed, abusive drunk. Axus lived with this until age nine, when his father died of a heart attack. From here, Axus spent a year in an orphanage until a man only referred to as “The Armorer” adopted him at age ten. Many of his memories up until this point have been repressed but he would remark what he did remember was unpleasant to say the least before The Armorer

Teens:
Axus would spend the next four years or so under The Armorer’s tutelage, where he learned weapon-making, philosophy, and basic combat. The Armorer was kind and wise, teaching Axus many lessons about the mind and how to view the world. Almost all of Axus’ ideals were introduced to him by The Armorer, including the idea that nearly everything can be, and deserves to be, celebrated. In regards to weapon-smithing, Axus favored blacksmithing over gun-smithing, claiming guns demoralize the concept of combat between two skilled fighters. However, The Armorer refused to teach Axus any Dust chemistry, stating that dust was a crutch and if given a crutch a man will learn to limp. At age thirteen Axus attended Sanctum Academy for combat, but still studied under The Armorer. While at Sanctum, Axus did well academically and did acquire a circle of friends, among which was a boy named Lea. Axus and Lea were very close and it was Lea who taught Axus how to ride a horse, a dying skill admittedly but they both enjoyed it. At first, Axus was a poor fighter and was in danger of flunking combat training. The Armorer remedied this by convincing Axus that his fighting will improve immeasurably if he wielded a weapon he made. This was purely placebo but it worked, and to this day Axus will still fight significantly better with weapons he makes. At Age fourteen, he got into an aggressive argument with Lea. During the argument, Axus discovered his semblance and nearly killed his comrade. He survived, but this caused Axus to put up a mental barrier on his semblance, making it so he can’t use it on living flesh ever again. After a brief period of confusion, Axus’ life returned to normal.

He continued his education, both from The Armorer and the school, until age sixteen when he took his final exam at Sanctum. The night after the exam Axus had a dream that, upon contemplation, would lead to the development of his ambition. When he awoke from this dream, The Armorer was gone without a trace. No note, no witnesses, no good-byes, just gone. When Axus went to school to see his results, he learned that not only did he score in the top 10%, but he had been both accepted and paid ahead to attend Beacon academy when the summer let out, which was odd considering the change in kingdom. However, Axus knew better than to question judgments like this from The Armorer, whom must have been the one to set this up. He would spend the next few months preparing the best equipment he could using what The Armorer taught and left him, telling no one of his disappearance since Axus had been taught to be self-sufficient. Taking in all his lessons of adaptability and tact into account, he assembled his dual-form shield and sword as well as two sets of armor, one for initial use and the other to be worn under the uniform. During this time, Axus contemplated the dream and The Armorer’s disappearance. He concluded that Armorer’s departure was the final lesson to Axus, that not all things will be solved and sometimes one’s best guess is as close to the truth as they will ever come. As for the dream, the more he thought about it, the more he desired it to be true, hence the ambitious he became. By the time the semester begins, he will be convinced that he will one day lead the world, his only hope being that The Armorer is somewhere, helping someone else just like him.

The Dream:
Spoiler: ShowHide
Axus opened his eyes to find himself standing on a flat plain facing west at sunset. He turned to the north and saw a great ocean of light blue water. He raised his right fist into the air and shouted: “HAIL!” From this, the waves came up and covered him for a moment, the receded. The water on his body began to solidify into metal armor that protected him. He then turned to face the south, where he saw a great mountain region. He raised his right fist and cried “HAIL!” from this, a fracture in the earth cracked down the mountains until it reached between his feet. The fracture tore the earth open under him, but instead of falling he promptly mounted on a mighty horse that was rising from the earth. Its hair was red as blood but its eyes were a brilliant gold color. He steered the horse so he now faced east. Here, he saw all the people of the world; man, woman, child and elder. He raised his right fist and proclaimed: “HAIL!” from this, all the people of the world, human and faunus, raised their right fist and called back “HAIL!” then, from each fist came a ray of colored light that shot into the sky and arched back down. All the rays converged on his raised fist and shaped themselves into a grand sword. He then steered the horse to face the west, where the sun had fully set and the darkness was rolling in. he raised his sword and roared: “HAIL!” from this, the darkness began to take shapes. Monstrous shapes that charged at him, armed with claws and fangs. Then, he reared his earthly steed and charged toward the mass of Grimm. He did not look back, but he could hear the people charging behind him as his followers. He could hear the waves and the wind cut their way to join the charge. And he could hear great shifts in the earth, as if the mountains wished to join the fray. They charged toward each other, and he raised his blade to strike the first monster. But just as his blade was about to make contact, Axus awoke.
Axus would think about this dream a great deal as time went on. The more he thought and tried to interpret it, the more he wanted it. He noticed the people did not bow or kneel, but hailed him, and he noticed that all manner of sentient life united to follow him. He would desire this greatly and soon develop a great ambition. Not to rule, but to lead. Not to be worshiped, but to be saluted. Not to be king, but to have command.

Personality: Most of Axus’ traits will have been spawned from the philosophies and ideas The Armorer taught to him. This will include great optimism and perseverance. Whenever he is not smiling he is laughing. He is very hearty and loud, possessing a laugh that is similar to an aggressive Santa.  He finds reason to celebrate in most scenarios, which sometimes comes across as insulting when the situation is dire or depressing. He puts heavy stock in fate and does not believe in coincidence or chance. He will accept most challenges and take great enjoyment in exploring the unknown and trying new things. Empathy is one of his weaker traits considering he normally relies on wisdom and logic rather than emotion. He has a heavy emphasis on loyalty and does whatever possible to aid his allies. His morality is also determined by his philosophies and logic.

By far Axus’ greatest trait is his ambition. However it may be a new trait he clearly puts great stock into it. This dictates how hard he works or fights in many situations. he knows full and well that he isn’t going to lead the world while in fight school, but for all intensive purposes his campaign has begun. As such, he will make great attempts to acquire allies in the form of friends while at the Academy. he will also try to broaden as many horizons as possible. It is important to note that he was a weaponsmith before he was ambitious, so if asked “why would someone who wants to rule the world make weapons?” the reply is that the weapon making came first and his ambition is relatively new.

Likes: Making things (mostly weapons), combat, adventure, the unknown becoming known, tea, life, wisdom, the idea of him leading the world, power metal music.

Hates: doubt from others (regardless of it’s target), wasting time, wasted talent, when his allies are in danger, sadness, country music.

Fears: loosing allies, being without armor or weapons, drowning

Aura and Semblance:
Aura color: Forest green

Axus' aura emits raw confidence. when one perceives it, they not only see the forest green glow around his body, but they can feel his determination and self-assurance emanating from his soul. This, in unison with his open persona, make it very easy for his allies to stand with him, or take his advice. On the contrast, his opponents will also feel his resolve, which can lead to the intimidation of some foes or the raising of guard in others. prolonged exposure to his aura can lead to a raising in moral. this has caused jealousy from others on more than one occasion, people can be envious of confidence and this is how many of Axus' enemies planted their resentment toward him. in his words, "The one emotion I can say I am an expert in is devotion."

Axus’ semblance is referred to as “forge hand”. It allows hit to heat up and cool down any object he touches or the air around him. There are little limits to how hot/cold he can make an object but there are restrictions on the power’s efficiency. When he has control of his emotions, he can be very precise with the temperature, but it is not instantaneous and takes time. When on the few cases his emotions control him, the rate to heating/cooling is amplified, but at the cost of it’s precision. He uncommonly uses his semblance in combat, since A: he has a weapon in each hand and physical contact is required, and B: he cannot use it on living flesh since the incident where he almost killed his friend Lea. Technically he can, but he had set up a mental barrier to prevent it from happening. It is again important to note that his semblance was unlocked before he became ambitious. He can get clever about how he uses this in any given scenario (knowing very hot objects can be softer while cold objects are more brittle) but long-term he mainly uses it in placement of a forge when making weapons on his spare time.
Note: This is NOT pyro-kinesis and this is NOT cryo- kinesis. He can make fire by heating up something flammable and he can make ice by cooling water, but this does not give him elemental control. Also, he may not be able to use this on living flesh; he has no qualms about using it on objects touching or being held by others and has no problem heating/cooling dead flesh (meat).

Combat Behavior: The one thing Axus values in combat more than anything is adaptability. He understands that if your fighting style isn’t working then you should switch to one that will work. He will normally enter a battle with his initial armor, sword and shield. The only time when he blocks an attack head on is if he is defending more than himself, such as a friend behind him. Otherwise he will angle his shield so that the attack would slide off, leaving the attacker (if the strike was melee) vulnerable to be struck with a pre-raised sword. His initial stance entails his sword raised behind his head and his shield held outward and an angle so attacks would slide off. When this tactic fails, he can detach half the plates on his armor and switch his sword and shield to a hook sword and katar. This “agility build” is designed to have control over the enemy, rather than greater strength or defense. The reduced weight from the removed plates amplifies his speed and mobility. With this, he will commonly use the hook sword to grapple onto and move aside the enemy’s weapon while he stabs with the katar in the other hand. This is not his only tactic but it is a common one. he does acknowledge his lack of ranged weapons, but he can often find an environmental alternative, such as heating rocks to the point where they explode on contact (super-heated rocks can actually explode). When he can't find such an advantage then he will likely just charge, trusting his armor and shield can keep bullets and arrows out of his body, even if he does still feel the force. this is not to say he can't use guns (he can make guns) but more so he does not like guns and chooses not carry one.

SHEILD

Name: Résiste

Primary Form: Heater shield- point normally at bottom of shield runs parallel to his arm, making it more mobile. The shield’s face is decorated with a fleur de lis.

Secondary Form: Katar blade- has two parallel blades with a small gap between them meant to catch and trap blades or output a strong electrical charge meant to stagger and opponent or break their grip of their weapon.
Note: This does not utilize dust; in the weapon there is a normal battery to store a finite charge. This is not a taser; the output is instantaneous, like a large spark, and does have recoil.

Tertiary Form: Gauntlet and extension to left bracer, takes this form when use of left hand is needed or he is out of combat.

History: Axus forged this shield before leaving for Beacon, using all the best techniques taught to him by The Armorer.

SWORD

Name: Mords

Primary Form: Kopis sword- (resembling swords from 300) equally capable of stabbing, slashing and hacking. The sword is in this form when it is sheathed or otherwise not equipped.

Secondary Form: Tiger hook sword- meant to control the opponent and their weapon, not to do damage. However, this does have greater reach than the kopis and moves through the air with greater ease. This form is only taken when it is needed and reverts back to kopis when the need dies down.

History: Axus forged this sword before leaving for Beacon, using all the best techniques taught to him by The Armorer.

Cool. I like it! Ambition, and a big one at that. Question now is where would his ambition take him? Amirite?

Well....well well well...this is by far one of the more enjoyable, most balanced characters I've read. I also agree..I would love to see where his ambition takes him. Either way, this character looks good to me.
