Oh, plenty. Setsuna's interest in reading and mechanics, Tina's love for video games, Tieren's short temper, Kei's semblance, Lunae's love of loud noises... Maybe not so much my WIP character, but you get the gist.

Don't worry about the response time, I think I'm about to enter that same phase of exams: GCSEs coming at me like a bullet doesn't help either.

I guess Kei has some sort of sad backstory, but to properly create a heart-wrenching character is beyond my current level of English. Doubly so since it isn't my first language.

Hey Vision, I have some completely original questions for you that I thought of myself.

When you designed Diana can you think of anything specific acted as the inspiration for a part of a character? What did Diana bring to the dorm, what possessions would we find on her nightstand/desk/shelves that sorta thing? And how does Diana feel about the dorm situation, does she mind sharing a room like that (Care about sharing with both genders, is he particular about cleaning, sleep schedule etc.)?

Hey Vision, I have some completely original questions for you that I thought of myself.
Hah that works ^^ Cheers.

When you designed Diana can you think of anything specific acted as the inspiration for a part of a character?
Diana is definitely a case of multiple minor inspirations. The one that started it all was Mercy from Overwatch, I love playing healer/support in that game so wanted to see if I could create an interesting semblance with similar properties. There are already a few semblances that restored aura or healed wounds but I didn't find that too compelling so I buffed Dianas a bit but also added a far more severe drawback in use (Generally find that drawbacks are almost more interesting than the semblance itself).

Other than that it's a lot of playing off my own life, I'm from a country not far from the arctic circle so had her start there (but move to Beacon since that's where all the action is), as well as some opposites. I don't have a bad relationship with my family but we aren't too close so she is very close, I'm straight so she is at the very least bi, I don't have much social awkwardness so she has some (though don't want it to become to defining so it's minor). Its a lot of that sorta thing, just trying to create a compelling character that would also be interesting to play.

What did Diana bring to the dorm, what possessions would we find on her nightstand/desk/shelves that sorta thing?
Diana wouldn't describe her nightstand as messy but it may be fair to say it's a bit, disorganized. There are two picture frames, one of her entire family, the other is of her brother in front of the dropship he pilots. Other than that there's a collection of letters, sketchpad and pencil, flashlight, and whatever book she is reading at the time. The only mess would be from sketches that she didn't like that were crumpled up, but she'd clean that up frequently. On her shelves, there's a sprinkling of books from most genres mostly young adult (she made sure to spread the romance books out to try to avoid drawing attention to how many there are). Lastly, she has a binder with the few sketches she was pleased with that she keeps under her bed.

And how does Diana feel about the dorm situation, does she mind sharing a room like that (Care about sharing with both genders, is he particular about cleaning, sleep schedule etc.)?
Having seen the responses from the other three it seems she is the one most put out by it. She is very much an introvert and liked having somewhere private to run off to so sharing a bedroom didn't fit her well. For cleanliness, she wants to avoid team conflict at all costs so she is a mirror of the team, leading her to be a bit more organized than she otherwise would. She tends to go to bed early so that she can read for an hour or two before actually sleeping. She's sure that she is the weakest fighter of the team so she goes out of her way to just be generally helpful otherwise, such as helping Janna with her armor if she will allow it (though she has trouble even picking up some parts of it). Whilst she is still most comfortable sharing a room with Janna the difference between her and the guys has decreased significantly over time.

Still waiting on that payment Vision.  :P

Now that I've managed to add even more characters to my list, and you're working on your second, time for some character questions. Do you prefer Human characters or Faunus, male or female, and why?

Unfortunately there's been a crackdown on outsourcing labor here, so I won't be able to pay until you have Norwegian citizenship or a work visa from the UK. Plz have it ready before midnight today or the contract expires. (Terms and conditions may apply)

I like trying to put on the mindset of someone who is different for me (whilst still similar in other respects). Whilst my first character was human I would not be surprised if both second and third end up being Faunus, having some animal features themselves are interesting enough but the discrimination and such are equally interesting. As for male and female. I will probably always favor female characters in a text-based format as I have a harder time playing a woman in a tabletop RPG, here the only visualization is by words (and don't have to try to do a voice) If I ever do get around to a third character it's very likely that it will be female as well (remains to be seen).

How about for you? You're pretty even on male and female, is that an active choice or did it just sorta work out like that? And you only have human characters so far?

Oh noes  :'( Mah money  :-\

For me, I've always found creating males easier than females as a whole, as well as RPing with them. Guess I'm just more comfortable being male than female when I'm trying to step into their shoes and writing. It doesn't mean that I won't stop, as it is a good learning experience and excellent practice for writing from a female's perspective instead.

I never really got around to making a Faunus character, partly because I didn't want to use one of the already overused animals as my base. There are plans for one, but I'm not making another character for another 2-3 months. Gotta slim down on them somehow.

Next question: What inspired you to make the spreadsheet, knowing that it would be this big of a task?

I didn't.

The spreadsheet evolved a lot in its early versions. First it was just gender, species, and most common semblances (shield, speed and elemental) and wasn't even using names just counting them as numbers however it quickly became obvious how bad a system that was. It was just something that grew naturally into the behemoth it is now.

As to why, it was a bit of curiosity highly relevant to your last question, as I was making my own character I was curious what the ratio of men to women was, human /faunus (species of faunus). It was also something that I thought could be useful for other people on the site.

One of the main reasons it grew as large as it currently is was that I was under a shitton of stress when I started this, it was just incredibly calming to watch something on youtube and do some super basic task that was in no way stressful. I may joke about it but I have thoroughly enjoyed making this and I am at least semi-proud of it.

I would love to hear why you wanted to join in on it, and if you had any idea of how much work you would spend on it?

The first reaction that I had when you posted about the spreadsheet, even though I didn't voice it, was "This is so cool and detailed". It was intriguing to see the weapon choices and variety of semblances that everyone had. While I might not have been as interested as you are at knowing the ratio of stuff, the old list of weapons made me think more carefully on what I needed in order to stand out.

I remember seeing the old lists and thinking "there's a mistake here, I can fix that". I didn't think I would be redesigning anything at all, just editing pre-existing stuff to satisfy OCD. I didn't expect to spend as much time as I have on the sheet, but mainly I think it's because I volunteered to help and thought that I had a certain standard I had to fill, I guess. Still, feel proud of yourself--this has turned out to be highly successful and still growing. Also I get dibs on certain stuff. :D

Question: What things have surprised you the most since starting the spreadsheet? (Can include questionnaires)

It maybe boring for most people but honestly the male to female ratio is incredibly interesting, with no external moderation we have arrived on a pretty much perfectly even distribution (146 to 142). Other than that some of my joke stats village destruction in particular were far less prevalent than expected.

Got any that were of interest to you? One of the great things now is that there's probably no one else on site who 'knows of' the weapons to the same degree that you do.

Have I earned the right to call myself the "Keeper of Weapons" now?  (I jest, I jest)

It's true though. Over the course of logging and recording every weapon that existed within the site, and organising them within the sheet, several facts, either amusing or painfully obvious, have emerged. The vast majority of users on the site have gone with either swords or daggers, a fact that only became more prominent as I wrote one down after the other. While there were some that were completely out there (Rocket Launching Rocket Locker), it's...kind of painful to see a lack of creativity at times. RWBY was amazing for several reasons, one of which being its transformable weapons, of course. There are several distinct and unique weapons on the site that fully follow this role, but almost the entire site has gone with either no transformations, or completely unrealistic ones.

Now I know that designing a fully transformable weapon is hard, and I personally take my own share of the blame: the experience has left me with a distinct unsatisfied feeling when I look over my old characters and their lack of uniqueness. Then again, all lessons can be learned, and I hope that by looking at the spreadsheet, any future OCs created will make themselves unique in more ways than one, by utilising a weapon combination that stands out among the sea of others.
