Title: First Year 1v1 Preliminary Match: Martin V Razzmatazz [Limited: 3/8]
Post by: Dr. Gustave on September 25, 2016, 09:15:28 PM
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" A Booming and energetic voice explodes through the speakers set up around the enormous stadium. A deep and gravely voice, like someone who spent too much time smoking and decided now would be a good time to start screaming for their entire life. "WELCOME TO THE FORTIETH BIANNUAL VYTAL FESTIVAL!" The crowd erupted into a ceremonious cheer, whoops and hollers came from all corners of Remnant as people tuned into the match from home. "I AM YOUR ANNOUNCER, VULCO DENTRES, AND I WILL BE SERENADING YOU WITH THE SOOTHING SOUND OF MY VOICE DURING THE COURSE OF THE MATCH- JUST KIDDING, F ҉   ҉ KERS-" A loud, annoying BEEEP filled the arena. Of course, this of all events was kid friendly. "WHY WOULD I DO THAT!? I'M GOING TO SIT BACK AND LET YOU ENJOY THE PURE UNBRIDLED COMBAT! PREPARE YOURSELVES, IN THIS PRELIMINARY ROUND, WE HAVE A SHADE STUDENT AND A BEACON, AND CAN I JUST SAY- I THINK MAYBE THE ENORMOUS BARELY FUNCTIONAL CLOCK WAS A WEIRD CHOICE FOR BEACON.... OKAY, I'M GETTING WORD I CAN'T DISCUSS THAT HERE SO BACK TO THE MAAATCH! IN ONE CORNER, WE HAVE MARTIN ROJA. FIRST YEAR STUDENT, EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD, AND A FIRST TIME CONTESTANT! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT, FOLKS? SO YOUNG, YET SO SANDY! VACUO IS TRULY COURSE, IRRITATING, AND GETS EVER- JESUS, DEREK I'M SORRY I KEEP TALKING POLITICS, STOP SCREAMING IN MY EAR!! ANYWAY, IN THE OTHER CORNER WE HAVE THE FIRST YEAR STUDENT, RAZZMATAZZ GELE! THIS HUNTER IN TRAINING IS SEVENTEEN AND HE HAS THE WEIRDEST F ҉   ҉ KING NAME I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME.... AND IT'S F ҉   ҉ KING AWESOME! BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THEM, LET'S SEE WHAT THEY'LL BE FIGHTING IN. TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL SPINNER, OR AS I LIKE TO CALL IT, THE ANTI-ENVIRONMENTAL SPINNER! ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES ISN'T THE SAME THING AS POLITICS, DEREK, SHUT UP!" The crowd, though somewhat confused, cheered heartily.

A large holographic image of a lottery machine appears on all sides of the arena, with two spinners. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words. It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on Swamp and River.

A loud laugh came from the speakers. "I HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE WATER!"

The floor of the arena lowered and, in its place, arose two new floors. Martin's half was a sparely packed swamp, complete with murky, sticky ground, wines, and mosquitos, and Razzmatazz's half become a rushing river, flowing into the swamp, comeplte with a rocky riverbank, and holographic salmon, swimming against stream.

Just then, the doors on each side of the arena opened and, from them, out strolled the combatants.

(A coin flip decided Martin gets the first post. The arena size is that of the 1v1 arena in the show, but still features biomes, though scaled down. Good luck, contestants.)

"I's time," Martin shouted as he approached the arena. One thing about Martin Roja, he knows how to play to the crowds. The moment his foot hit the arena, he loosened and removed the bandana from his neck, throwing it into the crowd. "No risk of a sandstorm here, is there?"

He unslung the sword from his back, made a test/showoff swing into thin air, then charged his opponent, shifting his sword to polearm form and using it for upward momentum. "Alley-oop!" He turned himself horizontal and began spinning, bringing his blade down towards his opponent's head (2% aura depletion if it hits, if I understood the rules on this part correctly)

Guess who caught it, Sakura Lunciar. She waved at Martin with a smile. Luckily for her, not many requests came in to have their weapons checked or anything so she managed to get herself a front row seat. She was not sure if Martin could recognize her. When they first met, her face was dirty and wearing a really buggy set of clothes. Also brown hair.

But now Sakura has pink hair like she usually does, wearing her color changing kimono and her many accessories that her look like a dainty kimono girl.

When Xanh had seen who was participating in one of the very first matches of the tournament she just had to get herself a seat in the arena. After all she had not only managed to motivate Martin to toss his hat into the ring, almost obligating her to have a look at his first fight. There also would of course be a good amount of punching going on - and what would be a better reason to watch anything?

So now she was here, amongst the rows of spectators, staring down towards the soon to be battleground in great anticipation. As a set of doors opened on opposing sides of the arena a satisfied smirk settled on her face. Finally! It didn't take long for her to spot which of the two contestants Martin was, and - for better or worse - there was noone censoring her as she shouted his way: "Kick him in the nuts and fuck him up, Mart'!"

Razz was happy to be here. He was happy to be studying in Beacon to begin with, but to be able to participate in the tournament, and in one of the opening fights no less? Boy, he was ecstatic. He strutted out through the doors and onto the field, smiling brightly and waving enthusiastically at the crowd around him. Doing so, he almost didn't notice the river, and nearly fell face-first into it.

"Whoa! Gotta watch out for- HOLY COW!" Razz, still overwhelmed by everything and anything, failed to realize his opponent had already begun his attack, and was flung back by the force of the initial strike. Still, the boy managed to stay up on his two feet, not falling into the river. Razz rubbed his forehead, taking our Rozhe Orchideya and swinging it to change it into its blade form. "Guess I should concentrate some more, eh?" The boy said, before taking a more ready stance. He didn't attack yet, rather observing his adversary's footwork. He knew he wasn't the best fighter at Beacon, so maybe the terrain could help out a little.

Sakura wanted to shout about how Razz's weapon works, she had a certain for telling how a weapon works just by observation. But she wanted to be fair.

"Put Razz out of his jazz and win this Martin and I promise I would give you free maintenance the next time you visit!"

Martin, just barely hearing two familiar voices over the roar of the crowd and of the adrenaline-fueled blood rushing through him, smiled. "Sorry about the early start, but I've gotta put on a good show for my fans," he joked as he shifted Gradus Bellum back into sword form. "You get me?" He waved in the vague direction of where the voices came from.

(Forgot to mention Razzy's aura damage. Gonna do that now.)

[Aura: 98%]

Razz briefly glanced at where Martin pointed his blade, and his face lit up. "Oh, you have friends watching! Awesome! My team's probably up there somewhere, too!" The boy said, giving a short laugh and starting to circle around his opponent, wary of his own feet. Last thing he wanted to to do now was slip and fall on his ass. "Let's give a good show then!" He called out, before lunging ahead and going for a simple slash, having positioned himself so that he was facing away from the river. As before, not falling in was a priority. (5% depletion if it hits. )

Martin attempted to sidestep the incoming blade, but his foot lands squarely in a deeper, squelchy bit of swamp, and he stumbled. The blade met its target, but barely. Recovering from the near-fall, Martin closes his eyes for a brief moment, and dives backwards, attempting to put some space between himself and his opponent.

[95% aura, as per the rule. Like the text said, it was a barely-hit, not a near-miss, so it still counts as a hit, I just forgot to add this]
Title: Re: First Year 1v1 Preliminary Match: Martin V Razzmatazz [Limited: 3/8]

Razz pulled his blade back and stopped himself from moving forward, as he didn't feel like getting in the swamp quite yet. He didn't know that much about how his opponent fought, but he knew for certain that he himself wouldn't do well without plenty of mobility.

Instead, Razz hopped back onto the rocks on the riverbank, taking a defensive stance. Though when he came into the fight he had only hoped to have a good time and experience the tournament for himself, he was pretty into it now. The crowd just made him oh so excited!

Razz placed the blade in front of himself, facing his opponent with his own back to the river.

The retreating Martin... shattered and vanished? Meanwhile, behind his opponent, the *real* Martin brought his sword down across the other guy's back, glowing with the telltale red of a fire Dust cartridge. Martin looked thrilled, and he was - it was the first time he'd gotten to use his Semblance in this way, or any offensive way, against anything other than Grimm.

(5% depletion, if Razz doesn't block/dodge, and a lingering fire that, with aura shilling,  is more of an annoyance/distraction than anything)

Razz wasn't expecting an attack from behind. Not because he didn't think his opponent could get behind him, since he didn't know what Martin was capable of. The main reason he didn't expect it was because the river was right there.

Razz grunted as he was struck in the back, but retaliated right away. He intended to use that river to his advantage, going for a strike at Martin's legs. If this lands, he can get the guy to fall into the river. Now that would be something he can work with! (5% depletion.)

Martin was surprised by how quickly his Razz reacted, and so was caught off-guard by the sweeping strike. "Whoa!" He fell backwards, just barely having enough time to point his sword - while shifting it to polearm form - down into the river, depositing him, thanks to the momentum, safely on the other side of the water. He took some damage, but managed to avoid a thorough soaking and disadvantageous position, but still got his feet wet (though that was a given, and already happened to one foot over in the swamp section), and that hit actually managed to hurt, even through his aura shield.

He spun his polearm over his head, bringing it to a stop pointing towards Razz, and - after finding the path of least wetness and least risk of being swept off-course or out of the arena by the rushing water - charged back across the river, yelling a wordless battlecry, swinging the weapon as he came closer to his opponent. (4% depletion, possibility of knockdown if Razz doesn't have good footing)

(90% aura and discomfort around the feet)

(Also, the 'shilling' below EDIT: above (was 'below' from the thread preview below the text entry, so I guess that stuck in my head), I was replying from my phone, and autocorrect caught a typo and assumed the wrong word. That should be 'shielding'.)

Razz spun around to see his opponent readying his charge on the other side. He didn't have much time to think, so he went for what made the most sense for him at the moment: strike back with equal force. As Martin made his attack, Razz moved to the side slightly to avoid a direct strike to his torso, while moving his own blade up to meet his opponent.

He was intending to let his opponent strike him, using Martin's own momentum against him. Tit for tat.

(10% damage if the attack connects, you can dodge out of it, though. Gonna refrain from applying the damage from the attack just yet.)

Martin just barely had time to notice Razz's attack and adjust his plan. The safest and quickest thing he could do - rushing across a raging river as he was - was to again plunge the blade of his weapon into the icy depths, quenching the last traces of the fire Dust's effect, and use his momentum to turn it into a vaulting pole. He leaps over Razz, almost sticking the landing, but stumbling on a loose rock. Steadying himself, he shifted his weapon back into sword form, raising it defensively and moving cautiously now, circling Razz, clearly calculating his next move.

Razz had held his breath for the charge, ready to take some damage, and let it out in one big huff, using the inertia from his initial attack to spin himself around, now facing his opponent.

His opponent seemed to like charging a lot, and was pretty agile. So was Razz, but Razz was also a pretty decent fighter in close combat.

His opponent had taken a defensive stance, so he had the immediate advantage there. Razz's only option was to weave around that defense. Or was it?

The boy started hopping from side to side, rock to rock, blade in front of himself, yet concentrating on his footwork more than his fighting stance. Doing this strange hopping action, Razz started moving towards his opponent, right until he was just a meter away. At this point, Razz went for an apparent stab apparently trying to get past his opponent's defensive stance. In actuality, the attack was of secondary concern to him. This was a tackle, aimed at getting his opponent to fall into the muck of the swamp.

(Stab is just 5% depletion, tackle isn't aimed at doing damage on its own.)

Robbed of his time to plan, Martin had little time to react - in fact his reaction did nothing to better his own situation, but only maybe to give Razz a taste of the punishment as well. He lowered his sword from its blocking position and brought it down across the path of the oncoming one-man stampede, and ground his feet as tightly into the ground as possible. If he was going into the mud, so was Razz.

(5% depletion, and either both of us or neither of us ends up in the mud)

Cobe had been watching the whole match very carefully, he knew that he would be facing one of these two in the First Round. Both had impressive weapons and interesting battle tactics, however, he did not doubt his only abilities.

The rest of his team, sadly, didn't apply for the tournament, so he was on his own in battle. It was something he was used, he quickly lost his train of thought and went back to observing the match.

Razz didn't back out of his attack. The boy took his opponent's strike with a wince, and finished his tackle, sending both of them into the muck. Razz, placing his blade in front of himself for a block, hopped off, placing himself on a nearby root. He was definitely slowed down by all the mud on him.

Razz took a proper defensive stance, looking at his opponent intently, but sill smiling as before. "Sorry for getting your clothes dirty!" He called out. And he meant it.

(Aura at 87%, covered in mud.)

"We do what we have to," Martin smiled in a mix of friendliness and what can only be described as 'I'm going to get you back for that'. He immediately moved to a higher, dryer spot, assessed the situation, and came forward swinging, with the aim of driving Razz into the river behind him.

(2-part attack - aura depletion 6% if the blade hits, and off-balance and wet if the push succeeds)

Razz had forgotten to account for one thing with his previous strategy. By pushing Martin into the swamp, he had made himself about as agile as he was, not more. And dodging was going to be a bi- uh, bicycle.

Razz dodged the attack in the only way he saw how. That is, falling backwards into the river himself. The boy fell into the stream with a splash, disturbing the holographic salmon considerably before managing to get himself out from the river. He was now soaking wet, but, hey, at least he was a lot cleaner now!

The boy sniffed, raising his blade once more. That was bad for him, but at least he had managed to avoid taking some damage. But in his current state, he couldn't manage a charge. Instead, he had to hold his ground. Now on the opposite side of the river from his opponent, Razz took another defensive stance. Yet he still looked like he was having fun.

"I can tell you're really into this!" Martin called across the river. He continued, as his weapon shifted to polearm mode, "Glad to meet someone who can get as much out of a good fight as me!" He considered using a bit of fire Dust to dry off, but that would just cake the swamp muck in, and caked-in dirt is not fun, in the middle of a fight or in the cleanup afterwards. Instead, he followed Razz's example, diving into the river, getting wetter, but losing the extra weight - and the 'fun' cleanup job later - of the swamp-stuff, and closing the distance between the two combatants slightly. Fighting the river's flow, he climbed to the opposite bank, and used his polearm to get altitude and momentum to execute a dripping flying kick against his soggy opponent. In mid-flight, he thought to himself about how close this match had been so far, and the fun he - and clearly his opponent as well - had been having with it, and a grin crossed his face as he dropped from the apex of his flight, foot outstretched.

(2% depletion)

"Ditto!" The pink-clad boy exclaimed, and allowed his opponent to get out of the river, 'cause he's a nice bloke, and his opponent hadn't attacked while he himself was in the river.

Though soggy himself, when Martin went for a dropkick, Razz was pretty prepared. As his opponent brought down his foot, Razzy brought up his blade to halt the attack. His blade was wet. His opponent's foot was wet. Continuing a streak of somewhat comical attacks, Razz attempted to slide the blade out from under his foot immediately, intending to get his opponent to slip and fall. If that were to work out, he'd follow it up with a stab down.

(Slip and fall would be 2% aura depletion, stab would be 10%)

Martin's foot hit the blade, struggled to keep his footing, but with the weapon being pulled away, that went from 'difficult' to 'impossible'. He slipped, but managed to make an interesting landing - great for avoiding the blade, and for pumping up the crowd, but bad for pretty much everything else. His foot hit the rock, his ankle rolled slightly (more pain than actual damage, but it was sure as hall distracting), and he fell backwards onto his butt. Using the momentum - and deciding he'd have time to worry about the pain after he put some distance between himself and the opponent - Martin continued to roll backwards, placing his hands on the ground, and springing to a rocky footing a couple feet back. He pulled off his drenched shirt, both because it was weighing him down and because the ice Dust woven into the intricate patterns was constantly threatening to freeze the shirt into a clothsicle, and threw it aside. Lighter now, he circled his opponent, looking for an opening.

(83% aura)

Razz didn't have the luxury of being able to quickly remove his clothing like that, the breastplate being a problem there. Still, he could take being wet for a bit longer, but he was definitely slowed down by that. He had to be defensive here.

Razz took a breath, and momentarily closed his eyes. As he opened them, there was a very faint glow in them. Soon after, a small show of lights started dancing around Martin's head, swirling about and making little imaginary sparks everywhere. Whether it was a mere annoyance or a full, blinding effect relied on how perceptive his opponent was.

Either way, Razz took his chance. Before the lights from his semblance dissipated, he rushed at his now-shirtless opponent, going for an upwards slash going into a potential block.

(8% depletion.)

Martin shook his head, trying to dismiss the lights he thought were in his head. In doing so, he nearly didn't see Razz rushing towards him, and barely had time to raise his sword defensively. The blow glanced off the blade, but drove Martin's own weapon upwards, exposing his midsection briefly. Before Razz had the opportunity to capitalize, Martin recovered - barely - and brought his blade down in a downward answer to Razz's upward slash.

(4% depletion, because it's a clumsy slash as it's coming off a deflected attack that affected his stance)

Luckily for Razz, his blade was already ready to block, as he had intended. As the blades clashed, Razz continued his attack with a kick to Martin's midsection. He couldn't afford to waste any time, since his opponent had the advantage of not wearing a wet shirt. This was the type of contest where such a thing didn't help.

Not ready for the non-weaponed attacked, Martin took the full force of the kick. He fell backwards, but thinking quick, he attempted to catch Razz's leg with his own as it returned to the ground.

(0-1% depletion, this is an unbalancing attack more than anything)

Razz was taken off-balance by the attack for sure, and fell backwards, managing to get back up with a roll. The fact that his clothes were wet made the entire affair a bit more uncomfortable, and his clothes had gotten a bit filthy again. But he couldn't stop his attack now.

The pink-clad boy was up on his feet once more, and, as soon as he made sure his opponent was up as well, went for another attack. Even when wet, he appeared to have a certain advantage, the advantage being the wight of his blade. His opponent seemed to do better with both hands on his weapon, while Razz had little trouble wielding Rozhe Orchideya with a single hand. As such, the boy went for an open stab, fully expecting a parry. If the blades were to cross, he intends to use his vambrace to neglect the defense and keep the stab going. It was risky, however, and one could expect for him to take some damage doing it.

(Stab is 10% depletion.)

This, to some extent, Martin was ready for. He let himself fall backwards again, tucking into a tight roll as he did. He hit his head on a rock on the way down, but luckily his aura saved him from any real damage. Upon standing up, he switched his weapon to rifle form, clicked a gravity Dust cartridge into place, and fired a shot at Razz's feet. If he didn't find something to hold onto, he'd be raised into the air, like all the little pebbles and stones around him, and dropped.

Razz didn't have much to hold onto, and even if he tried, he would probably lose his grasp as his hands were still rather wet. The boy was flung up into the air, rocks and pebbles flying past his face. He had to act fast to avoid a big boo-boo.

Razz arched his back, raising both of his arms to meet the ground. The landing was still pretty rough, and while he didn't manage to avoid the damage, he could at least gather himself for an immediate retaliation.

The boy rushed his opponent, hoping to get an attack off before he had the chance to switch his weapon back into a melee form. Razz went for another set of slashes, just going on an all-out assault at this point. But that innocent, happy smile remained the same. He was having helluva lot of fun!

Martin saw Razz coming, and managed to sidestep one of the attacks, but the other managed to slip past his defenses. He took the second hit, and used the momentum of both his sidestep and the attack to move around his opponent, getting somewhat behind him, shifting to polearm form as he moved, and sweeping at the legs of Razz. If the blade caught him, it would surely do some damage, and if not, it could still throw the boy off-balance again.

(5% depletion if the blade hits, off-balance if any of it hits)

(I think you messed up your math a bit- Martin should be at 76%.)

Razz couldn't move fast enough to avoid the attack in his current state, so he simply stood his ground. The attack stung like hell, but Razz chose to respond appropriately. There was momentum to his opponent's attack. The pink-clad boy had to utilize this. Spun in the opposing direction towards Martin, blade in a wide swing. He couldn't expect a full connect and that much damage, though, as the polearm was longer than Rozhe - but he could still do some damage.

(You're right, I forgot about the damage from the evasive fall.)

Martin was broadsided - literally and figuratively - by the attack. He took it full force, and staggered back. Steadying himself, he decided that this would be the perfect time to test out a combo attack he had been working on. As he had earlier in the match, he used his polearm as a pole vault, getting serious air, and on the way up he switched the weapon to rifle mode. At the peak of his jump he fired a spray of shots at Razz, and quick-shifted to sword form, spinning on the way down and slashing at Razz as he landed. Unfortunately he had not practiced this move very much, so he landed off-balance.

(Shots: 5 at 2% for each one that connects. Slash: 3% due to landing off-balance.)

Razz attempted to dodge the rain of bullets, but his current state only really allowed him to dodge two of the shots, the rest hitting the boy directly - two in the arm, one in the torso.

He was, however, more prepared for the melee attack. His opponent was off-balance, allowing for an easier sidestep, followed by a slash. Razz accompanied the attack with a step forward and a kick to Martin's leg. But even the boy himself wasn't sure that'd take him down. Worth a shot, though.

(5% depletion from slash, 1% from kick and potential to knock down.)

Picking the worst possible time to stabilize - the last second before the slash landed - Martin took the hit. He saw his opponent's foot raising to strike, so he let the force of the slash carry him rather than fighting it, sidestepping/being pushed out of the way of the kick. Bringing his blade to bear, he slashed upwards and to the left, hoping to catch Razz with the brunt of the force from the attack.

The slash connected, and Razz wasn't a big fan of that. Still, his attack had also made contact. That was pretty good.

The pink-clad boy kept his momentum still. Using it, he twirled around on his foot, hopping in the air slightly as he did, and went for a clean slash at his opponent's head. Once again, his other foot was moving in for a kick, this one more determined, aimed square at Martin's torso.

Martin staggered back from the slash, nearly - but not quite - losing his footing again. Again the kick the other boy had thrown fell short only because the momentum of the slash carried him out of the way. He considered loading another fire Dust cartridge, maybe getting a burn off on his opponent, but he sensed Razz was too smart to fall for the same move twice. For the same reason, he rejected out of hand trying to use his Semblance to get an advantage. Instead, he activated the ice Dust in one of the five charms hanging from his neck - actually a Semblance Catalyst Focus - and created a pair of frosty Doppelgängers to latch on to his opponent and immobilize him, while he himself went in for a slash across his foe's chest.

Razz did, indeed, expect his opponent to retaliate immediately. He wasn't however, expecting two ice bodies to take hold of his already wet body. This was a complete surprise to him, but he acted almost instinctively. As the two heavy ice figures grasped at his arms, Razz fell forward, slamming them against the rocky riverside, shattering them to bits. He hit his chest a little, but hurt himself much less than he would have if his opponent's blade had struck him, having avoided it with a roll.

Razz, now not only wet but partially covered in ice, stood up once more. Sniffing a little and internally worrying about getting a cold later, he clasped Rozhe with both hands and went for a big, overhead slash at his opponent.

Razz looked fired up now, but Martin was right there with him. Even as the other boy's weapon struck him, his face was lit up with a big grin, albeit one with an edge of effort and just the slightest touch of irritation. He rolled back, taking the hit but avoiding any potential follow-up, and while making a mental note to get his SCF restored later - and to pick up his shirt before the arena floor swallowed it up along with the biome sections - he thrust his own sword forward, shifting it to polearm form as he did so. He hoped the added momentum would do a bit of extra damage, and/or put a bit more distance between the two so he would have time to see what Razz had planned next.

Razz was still recovering from his slash at Martin, and as such, had little time to react to the attack coming his way. The pink-clad boy attempted to dodge the attack, but only did so partially, still getting slashed on his arm and taking the full damage from it.

He was quick to retaliate, though his attacks weren't as powerful as his last. The boy went for another set of slashes, both aimed at his opponents arms, likely to still be extended from Martin's thrust.

One of Razz's strikes got through, but Martin was already moving his arms to a more neutral and ready position, so the second one missed. He could feel his aura wavering, he knew he had to be more careful now - and more forceful, if he hoped to win. He shifted back into sword form, assumed a strong stance, and swung like a golfer, putting all of his strength into the strike, and using the momentum of his own swing to turn him around to the right, at which point he ducked around Razz and made for the river, hoping to gain a tactical advantage from the rushing water.

Razz barely managed to react in time, arching his back and half-jumping, half-falling backwards. The pink-clad boy nearly fell flat on his back, only just managing to roll with at least a sliver of dignity to it. He was still so happy, though! Every moment of this fight had been so much fun for him!

The boy saw his opponent return to the river, and followed him, positioning himself on the other side of it, whether that meant staying on the one he was on right now or hopping over the river. He readied his blade, expecting another attack coming his way.

Martin dived into the river like a pro swimmer, cutting through the rushing water like a knife. He laughed just before hitting the cold water - this fight was the first time he'd really tested himself against someone smarter than the average Grimm outside of sparring sessions where both sides hold something back, and it was the most fun he'd had in a while. Well, between the fight and meeting that mechanic girl, Sakura. Biding his time, judging the right moment... as Razz approached the bank, Martin made his move. The point of the polearm form of Gradus Bellum broke the surface, and flew unattached towards the other boy. Behind it came the weapon's owner, foot poised in a flying kick aiming to catch Razz if he dodged the blade.

Razz was almost a bit surprised to see his opponent jump into the water like that. Razz set himself up in a defensive position on the side of the lake, and was able to deflect the attack from the blade with his own, the water splashing on his face.

The kick, however, came as a slight surprise, and hit the boy square in the chest. He stumbled back slightly, wincing, but soon returned to a cheerful smile. His opponent was still full of fighting spirit! Awesome!

The pink-clad boy used his stumble to pose himself in a crouch, then sprung forward, weapon held back, slashing at the last moment.

Martin dove for his weapon, just as Razz was launching his own attack. His hand wrapped around the haft as the slash connected, the weapon shifted back to sword form as the impact registered. He felt himself tense and then go limp, dropping to the ground to avoid a potential follow-up strike, he rolled and brought his own blade to bear, thrusting up towards his opponent with force.

Razz was thrust into, not having dodged or blocked the attack at all. At this point, he went for a full offensive. The pink-clad boy retaliated with a wide swing, but, rather than going for a single strike, he spun his body around twice. The first attack was a slash directed at his opponent's chest, and the second strike was a leg sweep.

(Slash is 6% depletion, leg sweep is 2% with knockdown.)

The immediate retaliation caught Martin by surprise, and he took the full force of both attacks. He tucked into a roll, and upon standing back up, shifted his weapon to polearm form with a spin and flourish. "This is the hardest I've had to work for a win in a while," he called to his opponent. "However this thing goes, gotta say thanks for the workout!" With those last few words, he sprinted forwards, spear outstretched, using his Semblance to create a pair of decoys hoping to distract Razz and drive his thrusting attack home.

Razz nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! This was a lot of fun! Thanks!" He said with a huge grin plastered on his face. The attack which ensued connected quite well, Razz momentarily confused as he attempted to block one of the fake Martin's. The spear struck him in the gut, and he had to momentarily grab his opponent's weapon to keep himself from being knocked back. Razz then twirled around the weapon, using the opportunity as it was still in spear form. The pink-clad boy wend for another slash, followed by a whack to Martin's arms with the hilt.

The blade struck true, making Martin wince. He knew his aura reserves were running low, but he had a feeling his opponent couldn't be too far behind. Desperate, Martin released his grip on his weapon just as Razz's hilt came towards his hands, and he touched another of the charms on his necklace. Suddenly, a raging inferno billowed up around the fighters. It was technically an illusion - so the audience members in the back rows may be a little confused as to what's going on - but the fire Dust he had triggered infused it with a heat that was very real. He reached down and fished his discarded shirt out of the water, throwing it on and letting the dampness and the ice Dust woven into it cool him off, then grabbed for his weapon again, rushing closer and shifting it back to sword form. As he burst through a wall of illusory flame between them, he slashed downwards, allowing gravity to add to the force of his swing.

Razz saw his opponent reach for one of the charms, and expected another set of clones to appear. To his surprise, instead of clones he got a facefull of heat and flame.  Razz took a step back, shielding his face with one hand, Rozhe held in the other. He wasn't able to bring his weapon up in time as his opponent struck, and his hand was knocked downwards.

Razzy's response, however, was almost reflexive. As his arm moved out of the way, he moved his other one for a stab at his opponent's midsection.

Martin attempted to sidestep the attack, but was just a bit too late. The blade hit, but barely. He staggered, as for the first time in a while his aura was nearly depleted. Still, it was a hell of a fun match, and his face showed it through the determination plastered on it.The illusory flames died down as Martin shifted his focus from maintaining his Semblance to strategizing for the battle at hand. He stuck the blade of his sword into the ground, shifting it back to spear form and letting it lift him, and he used the muscle control that he learned surviving in Vacuo to swing himself around the haft in a wide arc, letting the spear use him as a weapon for a change, his feet flying towards the side of Razz's face.

Razz was struck in the face with two feet, and recoiled back from the strike. He felt his aura get pretty low, but he knew his opponent was worse off. It as time to finish things off!

Razzy pulled his blade back, but instead of going for a regular slash, lunge or stab, the boy flung the weapon at his opponent's legs. Then, as his weapon flew through the air, the pink-clad boy hopped forward, spinning on one leg. He brought his other leg upwards, going for a kick to the side of Martin's head. At least his opponent wasn't much taller than him. That would have been awkward.

Martin jumped as the weapon came dangerously close to his legs, only to come back down and find a foot in his face. He recoiled from the impact, and the buzzer sounded signaling the end of the match. Martin was defeated... and yet the look on his face could only be described as 'invigorated'. "You know I'll be coming for a rematch," he said as he gave his opponent a thumbs-up.

Razz blinked. He had just won. He had actually won a fight in the tourney. He couldn't describe the happiness he felt. Instead, he just smiled widely, and ran forward to give his opponent a hug. "I'll be waiting for that rematch for sure!" The pink-clad boy said full of glee. He'd then have to get back to get recuperated for his next fight, though. Also blow his nose. He was definitely catching a cold after this one.
