Verdant Cowl (This is to get reapproved)
« on: September 13, 2016, 10:48:26 AM »
CHARACTER

Name: Verdant Cowl

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Human Male

Symbol: A Snickering Fox

Occupation: Beacon Student-1st year

Appearance: 5’10” Slim build, toned around the body in general, but muscular in the arms. Verdant is dressed in a dark green dress shirt, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow with a wrist guard on his left arm. He has a quiver of different arrows on his back, the emblem of a snickering fox emblazoned on the face of said quiver. He also wears dark blue jeans with a belt that holds a small metal plate to his left leg. This slate grey plate acts as a magnetic holster for the collapsed Eagle Eye bow, and is likewise emblazoned in the Snickering Fox. His feet are clad in shoes that bear a resemblance to the Converse brand of our time. Lastly, in combat he wears a fox-like Grimm mask that covers the upper half his face leaving the jaw exposed. The fox mask has eyebrows painted on in an upward position to express a playful manner, as well as ornate orange markings on the ears and around the eyes. When in colder environments, he will wear a warm, dark green long coat that reaches to his knees above his usual ensemble.

History: Verdant was born to a merchant family in Mistral that consisted of his parents and himself. The boy had always had a talent for Archery, a skill bolstered by the fact that his father was a weapon smith, who specialized in bows and dust tipped arrows. His parents tried to shelter him from the corruption of the Kingdom, but he could still see mobsters strong arming his father for protection money. One day, when Verdant was thirteen, his family was getting ready to transport goods on a carriage through the badlands. Before the Cowls could begin their journey, however, a group of mobsters approached Verdant's  father, requesting protection money. Verdant’s father said that he would not pay, because they needed the money for the trip through the badlands. The mobsters, having not gotten what they came for, grew angry and destroyed merchandise from the shop, as well as taking Verdant's father’s money anyways, saying that he should just give it to them next time. While they left walking away laughing Verdant’s father fumed. In his frustration addled state, he insisted that they make the journey through the badlands, despite what had just happened.

Verdant's family entered the badlands about an hour after they left Mistral with Verdant’s father stewing in unbridled fury. This strong outpouring of sheer negative emotion attracted a horde of Grimm that attacked the family’s carriage. Amidst the chaos that ensued, Verdant's father told the family to scatter, all three running in different directions into the woods. After running around the woods for a quite some time, Verdant found the body of his mother, who had been brutally killed by the Grimm. Seeing the body of his mother left behind, he could only assume that both of his parents had been killed by the horde. After days of aimless wandering, Verdant came across a small band of faunus living in the badlands, who had moved to escape the racism rampant in the kingdoms of Remnant. Seeing as Verdant was a human, they took out their frustration on the human race on him, treating him as terribly as they had once been treated. So he left.

Verdant then spent the next four years of his life living in the badlands hunting with a hand-crafted wooden bow to survive, wearing a fox mask to hide the fact that he is human, in case he were to come across any more Faunus communities. He gained a frustration of the racism and crime in the world, knowing that it was a cycle of hate and sin, and watching as this cycle perpetuated. Then, one day, he found a Mistriali gang trying to rob a band of faunus for what little the group had. He had made an earnest attempt to fight them off, but he wasn't strong enough, and there were just too many of them. He was quickly overwhelmed, with little aura let to defend himself. Then he saw the Huntsman. A hooded man who came by his own will and saved Verdant and the faunus from the gangsters. The faunus gave this generous man their thanks, wishing to see the face of their rescuer. But when the huntsman took off his hood, everyone saw that he was a human. One that had risked his life to save but a simple band of faunus. Despite this revelation, the faunus still continued to thank their hero. This behavior surprised Verdant, and he was even more surprised when the faunus didn’t treat him as badly as they once had, since the huntsman had scared the gangsters into leaving the band of faunus alone. This inspired Verdant to pursue the study of the hunting craft at Beacon, become a huntsman, and to help change the world for the better. However, seeing as he was self taught in his skill of archery and had no combat school credentials to fall back on, he had to take their infamous entrance exam. He passed the written test with some difficulty, but made it through the combat exams with flying colors, despite the destruction of his first bow.

Now, armed with a new bow to replace the old one, the Eagle Eye, Verdant begins his quest to better the world as a Huntsman.

Personality: Verdant is a very talkative and outgoing young man. He is friendly, willing to crack jokes, and can be easily described as inspired. However, he refuses to talk about his past, and bringing it up will cause this often fast talking teen to go quiet. On the flip side, the easiest way to get him excited is to bring up the huntsman trade, as it is his driving goal, his passion to be just like that hooded man who saved him just a year prior. He also carries with him a sense of selflessness, being ready and willing to stick up for those who he believes are being treated in an unjust manner. However, he is more than a little naïve and overly trusting, seeing as he is somewhat new Vale, the city, and school environment.

Aura and Semblance: His semblance is a passive physical manifestation that improves his eyesight to extraordinary levels. Verdant can see much clearer and farther than the majority of people. He can see precise details from a mile away, and can calculate the exact drop off of all his shots, making him naturally gifted with a bow. However, his vision is not perfect. Seeing as he is human, he doesn’t have night vision, and if someone were to temporarily blind him, he would be at a severe disadvantage in a fight. His aura manifests itself as a faintly glowing emerald green field around him.

Combat Behavior:Verdant specializes in mid to long range combat, utilizing a variety of different arrows with different effects in combat. He will try to stay away from enemies and out of their reach while he fires Ice arrows to freeze them in place or interfere with their attacks. He also uses regular arrows as his primary mode of dealing damage. However, when he starts losing ground or needs a different strategy, he begins using more and more deadly arrows, such as concussive, Lightning, and Fire dust arrows. While Verdant does not specialize in close combat, his main strategy when at close quarters is to hold out for the little time that he can, or get to a better range.

WEAPON

Name: Eagle Eye

Primary Form: An incredibly resilient aluminum longbow painted dark grey, with the snickering fox insignia inscribed on the bow. However, the bow is nowhere near as special as its arrows.

Secondary Form: A collapsed variant of Eagle Eye, where the ends of the bow slide down over the main section of the bow to reduce it to half the length. Said bow is held magnetically to a holster on his left leg.

Tertiary Form: N/A

Dust Functions: Can fire arrows tipped or with heads of Ice, Fire, and Electricity dust. He can also fire arrows that create concussive forces. These are different than his explosive Fire dust arrows, which are more violent and volatile.

History: Eagle Eye was created within the first few weeks of Verdant entering Beacon. Seeing as his old wooden bow had been shattered during the combat entrance exams, he had decided to make his new weapon out of something a little sturdier.
