Title: Big Game Hunting [Closed]
Post by: Moth on August 13, 2018, 12:53:42 AM
The outdoor testing range at Beacon's weapons workshop was a place that told stories. From the faded pastel remains of various dust explosions and cracked asphalt, to the far concrete wall where several well-abused paper targets valiantly hung as a triumph against the wide variety of bullet marks marring their surfaces, one could tell it was well-used by students of all years. And this morning was no exception, as exhibited by quiet swears of Jima Purpora as she stood, hunched over what looked like a slab of iron with a motor attached, resting on several car jacks and half of a workbench.

The woman had been working on her most recent project for awhile now. After the Vytal Tournament and some recent sparring matches against other students, she'd been left feeling underpowered, and underleveled. Two things she knew she wasn't. The concept of not living up to her full potential was infuriating, so she'd decided it was about time for an upgrade in firepower, literally - and thus, the plans for her new chainsword were born. It'd taken some... interesting petitioning of the companies that provided her funding, alongside drafting plans for an entirely-new way of capturing Grimm, in order to get the money to build the weapon. It'd honestly been about time to replace her weapons though, too - the frequency of capture with the Grab n' Go were too low to warrant constant reuse, and after serving by her side for 4 years at Signal and then another 3 at Beacon, Jima had been reaching the edge of her capabilities with Goliath.

So thus, the plans for Requiem Alpha and Beta, alongside the compact capture discs, were created. The CCD's had been easy to draft, fast to assemble, and more importantly, much cheaper than the Grab n' Go - something Jima's correspondents were very happy to hear. Requiem had taken a bit longer to assemble, given the need to custom order parts to assemble in Beacon's weapons workshop. But weeks of late nights assembling and experimenting had finally paid off with the creation of the massive broadsword and it's custom-built dust powered engine.

So as Jima screwed back on the cover to the motor and flipped the switch on the base of the pommel, there's a muted roar as the motor comes to life. The blade of the weapon quickly gains a white glow before it lifts up off the workbench it was resting on, hovering nearly two feet over it's surface. Jima takes a step back, a massive grin on her face as she observes the result of so much of all her hard work - and lets out an incredibly unprofessional squeal of joy.

Now all that's left is a proper field test.

Routine maintenance and testing was a major part of weapons upkeep, and The Good News was no exception to that rule.  Sure, it hasn't seen much use, but in Smokey's defense, there haven't been many good targets for it.   Still, it's best to make sure the gun is in good condition when the time comes to use it.  After all, having a truckload of extremely volatile dust explode in his face isn't exactly Smokey's idea of a good time.

So every week or so, Smokey heads to the testing range to run standard maintenance.  He doesn't actually fire it, of course, but there are other ways to make sure it fires accurately and properly.  Smokey goes about cleaning the gun, making sure the action's clear and all the moving parts move and the non-moving parts don't, checking the sights to make sure nothing's obstructed, and even using Beacon's state-of-the-art equipment to "test-fire" the gun without actually loading it.

Despite his rough-and-tumble fighting methods, The Good News is found to be in fantastic condition.  Shrinking it back down to it's boxy carrying form, Smokey steps out of the warehouse and starts on his way back toward the locker room.  To be honest, he really wants to field test it, but unless an opportunity literally falls from the sky, it's likely not going to happen anytime soo--

"Oof!"  Smokey wasn't paying to where he was going, and walked right into someone.  He really needs to be more careful, keep his head in the game.  "Uh, sorry 'bout that, wasn't watchin--wait, aren't you...?"  Smokey stopped his apology midway when he recognized a familiar face.  One he had tried to pound into the ground not too long ago, in fact.  Jima Purpora, the woman who "assisted" him in wrecking Beacon's weight room a few months back, had been admiring what could only be described as a floating hunk of metal.

"Uhh, new toy?" he asks, pointing toward the aforementioned hoverboard.

Quiet and rhythmic footsteps echoed through the Academy's corridors as Kisha, humming softly to herself, made her way to Beacon's testing range. After she lost to Prism, she decided to become more diverse with her weapon and combat system. In other words, she ventured on new types of dust and modified some of her arrows with those. With the quiver on her back and Cocoa in its holster, she was ready to try out the new arrows. But before that happened, she saw two people outside the weapon workshop. While she couldn't remember ever meeting the older one, she did recall one time she saw, and also talked to the younger, and smaller one of the two. There was only one thing she couldn’t remember about him. His name.

She didn't think much about it and just said the first thing that came to mind.
"Hey, Mister Grumpy, you still remember me?" She called out waving, before walking up to them.

"That’s your girlfriend?" She asked with a laugh and then turned to the girl "Hi, I think we haven’t met before. I'm Kihsa. Kisha Miles" .

"Oh what the bloody hell." A voice is heard from the doorway as a tall and quite heavily built student enters the room noisily. "The one time I need to bash a few target heads in and there's a blooming lot occupying the place." In his right hand is what can best be described as a gigantic slab of metal welded to a shield, managing to match Jima's Requiem in length at first glance. Striding across the room the boy heads straight for the group, previous plans seemingly forgotten.

"Y'all mind if you vacate the premises in favour of someone actually usin-" he starts before his eyes fall upon the newly-built sword-dash-hoverboard and a grin springs to his face. "Well I'll be damned. A hoverboard. A working fucking hoverboard doubling as a sword." Only then does he seem to register the crowd he's standing among. "Any of ya mind telling me who this beaut belongs to?" the boy says, suddenly showing immense curiosity in the new gadget.

Diana had been in the workshop for about an hour this morning. Mainly going over maintenance on Eclipse, not that it needed it as she was in here a few times a week double and triple checking each part. Still she disassembled it, cleaned it, and applied a thin layer of oil to all the moving parts, she hadn't actually dueled since last time so the blade was in no need of sharpening meaning she finished a bit early. Enjoying the zen of just working on things she took out a scope design she had been working on and continued developing it rather than head back to the dorm.

A few of the students that had been there when she came in had already left though there were two that didn't seem to be in too much of a hurry. Diana recognized the man as Smokey a fellow first year, though they hadn't spoken directly. The woman, however, was a complete unknown. Diana kept shooting glances over trying to figure out what she was working on but couldn't. As the morning waned a few students had come and gone, and as more joined there seemed to be a group forming around the unknown woman. Not able to keep her curiosity in check Diana packed up her weapon, put the scope in her satchel and headed over to the group.

Following a bit behind Tieren she was close enough to hear him call it a Hoverboard, which she could confirm for herself moments later. Having seen who had been working on it Diana addressed her directly "That's incredible, really well done" she said with her typical warm smile.

sorry for the delay, had to leave town for a bit on short notice so got super busy out of nowhere, hopefully, shouldn't happen again.

Jima so enraptured in her new weapon that she barely notices someone running headfirst into her back, only twisting when she hears a familiar voice. Turning her head to glance over her shoulder confirms her suspicions, giving a grin to the short newcomer. "Smokey, long time no see! Yeah, this is-"

She barely gets the first sentence out before someone else approaches the two standing in the middle of the courtyard. Her nickname for Smokey makes Jima snort, and her characteristic snort just grows into a mischievous smirk as she asks if the two of them are dating. "Jima Purpora. And excuse you, it's fiance, not girlfriend. We're going to wed this summer, it'll finally end the blood feud that's been happening between our families for centuries. Isn't that right, dear?" She clearly jokes, glancing to Smokey.

Regardless of whether or not Smokey runs with the joke, two more curious students approach, both complimenting her handiwork. That earns both of them a blinding grin flashed in their direction, and Jima crosses her arms as she gazes proudly at her creation. "This beauty here wad designed and built by yours truly, thank you very much! Her name's Requiem, though right now she's technically in her Alpha configuration. Fully capable hoverboard with the classic three-crystal motor, only amped up in scale and size. She's capable of limited flight, high-powered dust effects, aaand," She steps forwards, yanking a drawstring on the side of the motor on the hilt. The sword immediately roars to life with one pull, before settling into a heavy purr as the blade of the sword opens up, a chain locking into place as it begins to rotate. "Inbuilt chainsaw!

"I only really got her up and working, and I'm about to take her out for a field test." She explains, affectionately patting the motor. "I know this good Grimm spot a bit of a ways into the Emerald Forest and was gonna take her there - if you're all interested in seeing her work and feel like killing some large Grimm, feel free to tag along."

As Kisha walks up and greets him, Smokey's countenance adopts a bit of mild annoyance at the nickname.  However, when he goes to correct her, the words stop in their tracks as Kisha makes her very bold assumption, leaving him kind of gaping like a fish out of water.  It's only when Jima makes her joke that his voice finally returns to him.

"*Ahem.*  Her family started it," he says, going along with Jima's imagination.  "Also, my name is Smokey.  Please, call me Smokey."  He has enough bad nicknames that he doesn't need to add any more to the list.

As two more students approach, Smokey starts to feel the itch to leave.  Between Jima's bizarre personality and outlook, Kisha's..."outgoing" personality, and the loudmouth newcomer who seems to be the exact type of person to try and pick a fight, Smokey's patience might not last very long.  So, Smokey starts to subtely slip away.  He stops, though, when Jima mentions the idea of field-testing.

"...How large we talkin'?" Smokey asks, almost daring to hope.  The itch to leave is slowly becoming an itchy trigger finger.

Kisha couldn’t help but laugh amused at Jima's answer. And when Smokey got in, it was just funnier. Oh yeah, Smokey. That was his name.
"Oki doki loki, Smokes... Smokey. Got it." So, whatcha doing here?
There was no time to ask the last part, as two students had already joined the group, both of which said something about Jima's newest built weapon

It wasn’t like she didn't notice the weapon, she just didn’t pay that much attention to it, but now that everyone was starting to talk about it, she also looked at the sword-hoverboard hybrid. And when Jima showed them the chainsaw function, her eyes widened in excitement. She wanted one.

She clapped her hands excitedly as Jima announced to try out the weapon in the forest, and she even invited her.
"Dude, I'm definitely coming with you! No ifs and buts, you can't get rid of me now"

"Damn, now I feel rude for just barging in when you've just laid out such an enticin' deal. First impressions aside, I hope y'all don't have too many grumbles about me tagging along." The muscled boy adds. before slapping his hand to his face. "Probably past the stage of mentioning I don't have many manners, but better late than never. Name's Tieren Augus, Beacon first year. In case you couldn't figure it out." he grins, slapping the weapon on his right arm and stepping back a step. The weapon's blade unfolds to reveal the entire length of the steelwork, scarred and worn but undeniably razor-sharp. "Beats whackin' at fake heads every day. Where we goin'?"

"I'm Diana, nice to meet you all." It seemed she was the only not initially excited at the prospect of looking for a fight, though as the conversation continued she started to convince herself that it wasn't a terrible idea. They would be five people, one larger than a regular team. Not to mention that Jima seemed to be older than the rest of the group, having a more experienced fighter with them should also help keep them safe.

"I'm not the strongest fighter but I can provide some support if that's okay? It would be nice to fight monsters again, not having to risk friends in duels." That was the tipping point, Diana utterly hated having to train by fighting other students and this was a chance to practice against the real enemy. Besides, it seemed pretty clear that they intended to go through with this plan regardless, and if someone did get injured they would be safer if she was there to treat them.

Jima’s signature grin gets bigger at Smokey’s question, deactivating the hoverboard mechanism and grabbing the handle just before the massive sword hits the ground.  “Plenty big. We’re talking Deathstalkers, Creepers, and  probably a King Tajitu if we’re really lucky. And hey, the more the merrier! When it comes to fighting Grimm, the more firepower we’ve got, the better.” She confirms, before flicking a switch on the hilt of the sword. The blade collapses inwards and practically halves in size, letting her slide it into a sheath on her back, before she sets off out of the training range towards the Emerald Forest - beckoning for the herd of first years to follow.

Unfortunately for their motley little crew, what would follow would be nearly an hour of walking through the depths of the Emerald Forest. At the very least, Jima was an intrepid tour guide - spouting off a wide variety of facts about both Grimm and her weapon, barely stopping to breath as she rambled on and on about the composition of the alloy in her weapon, and the major weak spots of a King Tajitu. The path they’d be following could barely be described as more than a deer’s trail for the majority of it as Jima led them further and further, seemingly without end to the hike - until she’d burst through the sudden end to the treeline with a triumphant  “Ah-ha!” and out onto an ancient stone road.

 “C’mon, this way!”

Giving an abrupt about-face, Jima would beckon to the group to follow her down the worn-out road, overgrown with moss and dead leaves. In the distance would a massive stone wall nearly three stories tall, made from the same crumbling stone as the road. At the base was a worn-down arch, acting as the entryway for a rough-hewn tunnel that sloped upwards through the thick stone - and where Jima would promptly stroll as if she’d done it before.

“I found this place way back in my first year, when I was out exploring the Emerald Forest for the first time.” Jima explained, her voice faintly echoing off the walls of the tunnel.  “According to what I could dig up from the library, this is a colosseum from waaay before the Greyed War - people from all over would come here to spectate fighting. I couldn’t find much else beyond that, but it’s still a really fucking awesome place to find.”

At the end of the tunnel, the motley crew of hunters-in-training would break out into the overcast sunlight once again, revealing the massive collueseam that stretched before them. The open field was nearly the length of a football field, surrounded by a high wall with a several large openings along the length of it. The group would emerge from the tunnel’s entrance into the stands where they could observe the ancient colosseum in all it’s glory - before Jima would beckon for her to follow them again, trotting down a worn-out staircase before picking her way down a section of the arena wall that had crumbled with age - leading them all to the arena’s floor.

“The reason this area is so convenient to us is the fact that with all the fighting that went on in ancient times - well, to paraphrase it lightly, there was a lot of bloodshed.” Jima said casually, unsheathing her sword to transform it back into it’s full length.  “Even it was entertaining to people back then, this place has a history of tragedy - an ancient one, stretching back centuries, probably. With all that energy concentrated into one place, well, it’s a magnet for Grimm.” She answers, glancing back at the group that followed her.  “Even to this day.”

Smokey couldn’t help himself.  A grin slowly formed on his face and grew wider and wider as Jima lists her quarry.  He might actually get a chance.  It might score a kill today.  And that was some good news.  This was going to be fun.

This was boring.  The group had been walking for what feels like an eternity through the Emerald Forest, and Jima won’t stop prattling on.  Sure, her ramblings were interesting at first, the girl’s really done a lot of research.  But this endless hike, not to mention the amount of weight he’s carrying, is taking its toll on Smokey’s enthusiasm.

So, when Jima finally reaches the end of the tree line and shouts in triumph, Smokey eagerly looks around her to see…a road.  Yay.

Fortunately, they didn’t have to walk much further, and as Jima walks the group towards a stone archway—with a path that slopes up.  Fantastic.  He doesn’t complain, though.  He brought this on himself, complaining won’t get him very far.  At least the slope didn’t last very long.

When they emerge into the colosseum, Smokey takes a moment to marvel at the size, scale, and architecture of the ruins—most notably the seats. But, well, Jima’s pressing onward, so despite the complaints from his legs, he carries on, too.

When Jima finally settles on a spot on the arena’s floor, Smokey takes a quick look around.  The ruins are impressive, no doubt, but…

”So, uh, where’re the Grimm?” he asks, breaking his silence for the first time the entire trip.

The excitement sprang up in Kisha as Jima started walking, gesturing the rest of the group to follow her. This was going to be so great! Killing Grimm is in itself an activity she enjoys way too much, but doing so with new friends? Nothing could top that!

She followed Jima out of the Academy and into the depths of the Emerald Forest, all with a huge, slightly dreamy, smile on her face and the melody of a song on her lips which she hummed quietly to herself. It was a long walk but time passed quite fast
for her, and it didn't take that long to arrive at the story road.

It may be a bit inappropriate to say that she was disappointed when they stopped in front of the stone wall, but that's exactly what she was. For a few seconds at least. However, after they passed the tunnel, her eyes widened.

"This.Is.AWESOME!" she shouted in high spirits and couldn't stop herself from exploring everything down to the smallest detail, meaning that she jumped excitedly from one position to the other without spending more than a
single second at the same spot.

"AhhhThisIsSoCoolHowDidYouFindThisPlaceDoTheProfessorsKnowAboutThisHaveYouBeenHereOftenAhhhThisIsSoCoolICanBarelyHoldMyselfHelpINeedAir- "

At the end of this... sentence, Kisha took a deep breath before repeating her words a little more calmly. "This place is incredible! Do the professors in Beacon know about this, or is that supposed to be a secret? Oh, are we allowed to
tell?" she finally asked, still exploring her surroundings.

After a couple more seconds passed she walk back to the group, just in time to hear Smokey's question "Right, shouldn't it be full of Grimm here?"

Getting to test his mettle against big beasties like Deathstalkers and King Taijitu? Something Tieren would leap at the chance to do. Having to walk miles to do so while having his ear talked off? Jima sure knew how to dampen a man’s mood.

Judging by the look on the other muscled boy’s face Smokey was feeling the exact same, and that made Tieren feel just that tiny bit better to know he wasn’t the only one suffering. Seriously, judging by the giant piece of metal on his back, who cared about weak spots. Personally, all he’d need to do is just raise his hand and chop, but whatever Smokey’s lugging around, it was heavy and would do a lotta damage.

In any case, though it was nowhere as large as Smokey’s weapon/workout routine, his own sword could only be carried on his arm and it was beginning to smart, so actually being able to see their destination was a relief and a welcome break from nothing but greenery for an hour. The colosseum was impressive, to be sure - but something about it seemed off. No way a stage this big was only discovered by like one person - especially if it still attracted Grimm like Jima claimed.

For some reason, Tieren expected the stadium to be larger. Not to say it didn’t trump whatever Beacon offered, it was just…slightly underwhelming, nothing ageing well at all. ”Yeah, all that talk about Grimm being attracted to this place and lookie! Nothing here.” he said, leaping from the broken stairway and landing heavily on the floor. ”Or if there are Grimm, maybe they just need a little emotion juice to get them going.”

While thrilled at the prospect of fighting monsters rather than her peers Diana couldn't help but shot a concerned glance towards Jima at the mention of the larger Grimm types, surely she was just saying that for dramatic effect, right? Looking down at Eclipse she detached the scope she had been working on, she wasn't too happy with the design and certainly didn't intend to fight with it now. As she followed the others out the door she pressed a button on the rotating handle of her rifle which caused the stock to split in two and wrap itself around the blade for storage.

When they had barely set foot inside the forest off the academy grounds Diana prepared her rifle, she retracted the bolt to check what dust round she had loaded, ice. She enjoyed Jima's tour guide narration and in a moment of distraction from the fight before them she couldn't help but admire the nature around them, the nature in Vale seemed so welcoming compared to Atlas.

Diana was quite intrigued by the colosseum in particular that it was from before the greyed war, wondering to herself if it could have served any function similar to Amity for the fighters from before the academies. The mention of its history with bloodshed snapped Diana back to reality and why they were there. She glanced around for any sight of movement, so far everything was still. Absentmindedly she pulled back the bolt of her rifle to check which round she had loaded, ice.

While she was certainly nervous for the fight ahead of them it wasn't out of fear, this had just become her role on her team. To be the one who was a bit more cautious and careful, she might not have the typical personality of a leader but she would make sure her teammates were safe and looking at her new impromptu teammates she was glad to see how excited they all were. She positioned herself as central in the group as possible, hoping to avoid a melee fight if possible, and for the third time she found her hand on the bolt of her rifle ready to check the round, ice.

"Well Grimm aren't blind, the energy of a place like this could certainly attract them but if they come and can't see anything they would look elsewhere, but it certainly means there are more Grimm around this area than a random place in the forest."

I'm terribly sorry for the massive delay, I've mentioned the reasons on the discord but wanted to keep everyone in the loop. I've been on sick leave for about a year now and I'm trying to sort everything out so I can study again.

“Let’s see…” Jima ponders, fiddling with the motor on her sword.  “One, about the staff knowing this is here - I wouldn’t know personally, but it wouldn’t surprise me if someone like Professor Sophos knew. Two, keeping the location of this place a secret I’ll leave up to you. If you bring more people out this way though, just be prepared for a fight and like, don’t litter. Or destroy the ruins too much. Three - c’mon, aren’t you all in the first year Grimm Studies class? Think about it. Large arena, crumbling ruins. Plenty of hideyholes, and we literally just planted ourselves in the middle of it all. Perfect environment forrr…”

Almost perfectly timed, a deep growl permeates the arena, the echo making it difficult to pinpoint. Jima grins to herself at the sound, yanking the pullchain on the side of her new sword, and the chainsaw roars to life in response - only to cough and sputter, before blowing smoke in Jima’s face. She yanks the chain a couple more times to see if it’d come back to life, only to for the lights of the motor to die out as it becomes entirely unresponsive. ”Okay, you guys can handle the first wave yourself! Good luck!”

As Jima starts to drag her weapon off to the side of the arena, a particularly brave Creeper charges headlong out of the nearest arena entry towards the group. Several more of the same Grimm follow it out of the gate, fanning out - not charging headlong like their compatriot, just quickly stalking towards the group.

Smokey watched as Kisha bounced around the ruin with all the excited glee of a kid in a candy store.  It’s mildly irritating how she can still have so much energy and enthusiasm while he’s sucking wind.  Maybe he should offload some of this ammo onto her, and at least give his back a bit of a break.

Smokey shoves his petty thoughts aside for the moment, though.  While he’s had relatively little interaction with her, he’s aware of two distinct qualities Jima possesses.  Number one, she knows a lot about Grimm.  Number two, she’s stared down a point-blank 7-round volley from Matchstick without even flinching (and Smokey’s still not sure if he should applaud that).  The point is, if Jima says there’s a bunch of big, nasty beasties in this dilapidated colosseum with a big smile on her face, then there’s a bunch of big, nasty beasties in this dilapidated colosseum.

So, when the Grimm start to make their presence known, Smokey’s hand falls to the massive revolver strapped to his waist, as his eyes scan for the source.  That is, until Jima’s weapon starts coughing up smoke.  As she leaves the first years to fight the coming onslaught on their own, Smokey spares a quick, annoyed look in her direction.  Poor weapon maintenance is inexcusable, experimental or not.

When the first Grimm finally emerges, Smokey’s first action is to completely ignore it.  It’s a Creeper, not exactly a major threat.  If he were on his own, or employed as an escort, he’d immediately move to take care of it.  However, there are four combat capable compatriots accompanying him, and they should be more than able to—actually now that he thinks about it, he has no idea how his current comrades combat the Creatures of Grimm.  And that gives him an idea…

”So, uh, how ‘bout this?” the gunslinger says nonchalantly, as he turns his back to the charging monster and walks away, confident that one of the other three will take it out before it reaches the group.  ”You three versus me, see how many points we can rack up.  Those critters are worth one each, and everything else we’ll decide on the fly.  I’ll even give y’all a five point head start,” he says with a smirk, gesturing to the approaching beasts.  He seems very confident that he could easily make up the deficit.

Though, sportsmanship isn’t the only reason Smokey’s not joining in the fight yet.  Shooting individual Creepers with Matchstick would be a terrible waste of ammo, and using a semblance charge this early could leave him vulnerable if one of the bigger denizens appeared at an inopportune time.  In fact, Smokey may actually be an unwitting genius.  If the others agree to the competition, they’ll be less likely to rely on Smokey’s raw power and more likely to step up during Immovable Object’s cool down period.  But Smokey didn’t think that far ahead, he’s just trying to spice things up while waiting for a proper target.

At the very least, he can take this moment to work out some of the kinks in his muscles from that long walk.

Kisha nodded steadily as Jima answered her questions successively, followed by an "Mh-hm, got it."

There were other, countless questions whizzing around in her head, everything about this place and the people she was with, but those had to wait until later. She turned to the growl with a determined grin and immediately was disappointed. Of course, there wouldn't be a huge Deathstalker right away, but creeps? Creeps!?

"Keep your five points," she said to Smokey with a slight grin but kept her eyes on the creeps as she quickly took an arrow out her quiver and tension it into her bow, firing it immediately. The first arrow raced forward, right in the direction of the 'leading' creep. Not even a second later and the next arrow shot forward, this one targeted at one of the crepps further away. After the two arrows were fired she lowered her bow and took a few steps back,
"Welp, that should be two points for me," she said with a confident smile and put her hand on her hip. "Even though creeps are not even worth a point, Beowolves maybe, but creeps? You know what, make one point out of it, I'll give a Creep a maximum of 0.5 "

”Wait, you fucking serious?” Tieren said, brows furrowed in suspicion. He couldn’t tell if Smokey was pulling a fast one on ‘em, had a different agenda or whatever in mind, but eventually decided that having a competition wouldn’t be a bad thing. While he was thinking Kisha had already launched a pre-emptive strike, making him realise he had to get a move on if he wanted to win. And boy, was he competitive.

Fuck it. ”You’re on! Just don’t come crying to us after we whoop your ass!” Tieren shouted, completely ignoring the two Creeps that Kisha had staked as hers and instead accelerating toward the remaining three. His right arm tensed as the gigantic metal blade hinged into position, before he ran past one of the Creeps, intending on slicing it clean in half.

Diana silently nodded as Jima answered the barrage of questions, she was a bit surprised by the littering comment but after looking around she had to agree that the place had a certain beauty. This would be have been a very nice place to bring someone, if not for the Grimm. Speaking of which. As the Creeps entered from one of the sides Diana began to move out of her central spot and positioned herself behind the others, she looked around for cover or height advantage and while there were some stones and ruined pillars they were further away than she wanted to be right now.

Smokey’s challenge fell on deaf ears for Diana, she really wasn’t competitive at all. Still she quickly readied her rifle to attack the creeps that were charging at him, calling out "What are you!" however before she could finish Kisha and Tieren were on top of it. Trying to get an eye on the two that hadn’t been engaged, she spotted one of them that seemed to have noticed that Jima was partially distracted with her weapon, it was circling towards her. Getting down on one knee Diana exhaled deeply, aimed, and fired two shots to play it safe.

The charging Grimm goes down with Kisha’s first arrow, embedding itself in the creatures forehead before it poofs into a cloud of black smoke. The second Creep goes down in a similar fashion, and Tyrian’s headlong charge is rewarded with a Creep attempting to bite his arm off - only to be sliced solidly down the middle. Diana’s two carefully-aimed shots manage to hit home, which earns the support a quick nod of thanks from Jima. There’s still one Creep that nobody bothered to shoot, though - and it immediately capitalizes the lack of attention by lunging at the nearest target of Tieren, mouth open.

”More Creeps incoming, by the way!” Jima yells, not looking up from her weapon. True to her word, nearly double the initial crowd emerges from the surrounding arena arches, fanning out in a loose semicircle to surround the fledgling hunters. Jima gives an approving hum to herself at the fact, having really only expected Creeps to be around right away- it’d give everyone a good chance to warm up.

Which is why when the feeling of something other niggles at the edge of her Grimm sense, it’s enough to make her jerk her head up in surprise. ”Smokey, incoming!

The ground underneath Kisha and Smokey - the two who decided to stay back -  would suddenly swell from underneath and make cause the stone crack, adding in the fun of additional tripping hazards.  That’s all the warning the two would get though, before the golden-tipped tail of Death Stalker breaks through the stone and attempts to stab the conveniently-placed immovable object.

The first few seconds of combat gave Smokey an idea of what to expect from his teammates.  Looks like Tieren’s the only one that prefers melee.  Still, the only they’ve fought so far were Creepers, so it’s not like he got an actual gauge of their skill.  And with ever more creeps filtering out, it doesn’t look like they’ll need to show all their stuff anytime soon, though Smokey might need to start pulling his own weight just due to the numbers.

It’s then that Jima shouts a warning at him, putting the gunslinger on high alert.  Not even a second later, the ground cracks, and a Deathstalker tail comes lunging at him.  Unfortunately, between the ground shaking and the surprise attack, there’s no way Smokey can dodge the stinger.  However, Jima’s warning does allow him to draw his weapon and activate his semblance in time.  When the dust clears, the group will see Smokey’s glowing arm wrapped around the tail, preventing it from retracting (at least not without significant effort on its part).  In addition, the unarmored backside of the tail is now exposed.  That gives Smokey the opportunity to raise Matchstick and fire off a round into the Grimm’s flesh.

”So, if a Creep’s worth half a point, what’s a Deathstalker?” Smokey calls out with a very wide grin.  This is what he was looking for!

Kisha laughed triumphantly as the two arrows sank into the Grimm, killing them. She then turned her head, with a confident smirk on the face, to Tieren, and Diana, both of whom also brought down one of the Grimm. Four down, one more- It was then that Jima's yell echoed through the Colosseum and the next wave of creeps stormed in. An annoyed groan escaped her when the low-level Grimm entered the fight she. She already used enough of her arrows on them, do they have any idea how much work it is to make them?

Just as she was about to step forward to plunge right into the wave of creeps, the ground crumbled beneath her and eventually burst open. "Ihhhpp!" Kisha shrieked as she sprang away from the just emerged source of danger. Fortunately for her, the Deathstalker tail wasn't aimed at her, giving her the opportunity to build up some distance between her and the tail. All the more unfortunate for Smokey, who seemed to be the one targeted and hit by the attack, but when Kisha looked up to see how he was doing, he seemed to be totally fine. Kisha then gave him a challenging grin, "Heh~ Good question Smokes. What do you think, are 10 appropriate?"

Smokey seemed to be in control of the situation with the Deathstalker, and if things got rough she could still step in, but for now she was focusing on the group of weaker Grimm. With a slight chuckle, she threw her bow forward in the air and jumped right after it. She grabbed the handle of the now-transformed dagger again and stormed forward, right into the bunch, ready to kill each of the creeps herself.

”Gotta try harder than that.” Tieren snorted derisively, spinning counterclockwise to bring the edge of his blade slicing horizontally across the Creep’s body and sending the two decapitated parts flying across the arena. More growls surrounding him brought Tieren back to his senses, causing him to look up and take in the number of Creeps encircling the party, in addition to the uninvited tail that thought it was a good idea to join in.

Even though 11 of the things might have been a little too much for one person to handle, Tieren believed that the extra fire support from their team medic, as well as Kisha joining the fray would more than even the odds. ”Come on then, you pack of pansies! Scared of a single person?” He shouted, stomping the ground with his feet to entice a few of the Creeps to “come get some”.

Relieved that her shots hit home Diana sent a smile back to Jima and was about to give her a quick wave that was interrupted as the ground around them started to crumble, nearly losing her balance she snap back to the fight at hand. Dropping to one knee she focused her attention on the deathstalker, although there were many creeps they could be handled easily if they didn’t have to deal with a deathstalker yet. As the dust settled she was quite surprised to see that Smokey had managed to stand his ground against the creature. As he had the tail under control Diana aimed her rifle towards the ground where the creature was still emerging, rotating the handle of her rifle a few degrees moved the trigger mechanism from semi auto standard rounds to the large dust round in the sniper chamber. Taking an extra second to sure up her aim and make sure she would hit Smokey with any of the expanding ice she fired.

Combat Log:
  ● Shot a large ice Dust round towards the body of the emerging deathstalker, hoping to slow it down or freeze a pincer shut.

Jima’s answering shout from the side of the arena ( “Ten points works!”) is nearly drowned out by the answering hissing scream of the Deathstalker beneath Smokey, the tail in his grip flailing wildly as the short-range explosion flat-up evaporates a chunk of black flesh. The dwarf would get another few seconds worth of solid ground before the floor of the arena crumbles beneath him, and the rest of the Deathstalker flat-up bucks through the ground, aiming to dislodge the annoyance on it’s back.

He’s lucky that Diana’s effort to slow down the Grimm worked: ice encases approximately half of the massive creatures’ multiple legs along one slide, shifting it’s attention from bucking wildly to get Smokey off, to jerking harshly to one side as it attempted to free itself.

Kisha’s quick reflexes manage to save her from the oncoming Deathstalker at least, but her enthusiastic dive headfirst into the throng of Grimm is more than enough to drag their attention from the other loud, shouty target on the field. Her blades manage to sink into one and then nick another, making it to recoil and hiss - but another three attempt to dogpile onto the huntress-in-training in revenge for their injured peer.

The rest of the group aren’t smart enough to avoid Tieren’s bait, and while the one he just cut through barely barely manages to dissipate before a tail cuts through the smog to try to smack him off his feet. Two more Creeps move in, trying to close off the young hunter from his peers. Two aren’t invest enough in the tank’s stomping or the Deathstalker rodeo however - and break from the pack, slowly pacing around the outside perimeter of the chaos

”What, you want it back?  I thought it was a present!”  Smokey laughed as the tail thrashed about in his grip to little avail.  It didn’t seem to take kindly to the blast from Matchstick, but maybe a second one will calm it down?  Smokey grinned at the thought and took a second shot at the tail, trying to sever the appendage with his bullets.

Just then, though, the ground erupts once more as the Deathstalker bucks through the ground in rage, trying to knock the gunslinger on his ass.  Fortunately, that’s easier said than done, as Immovable Object makes knocking Smokey anywhere a tall order.  That being said, the sheer ferocity of it forces him to try and steady himself, which let the stinger slip out of his grasp.

Oh well.  After two shots from Matchstick, that tail’s probably OOC, as far as Smokey’s concerned.  And judging from the jerking motion of the beast, it looks like the Deathstalker got stuck, too.  Looking over the side, he sees the creature’s legs have been frozen in place, keeping the Grimm momentarily trapped.  Tch, I wanted to kill it myself!  Now I gotta share the points, he thought to himself as he looked for the culprit.  Well, since the damage has already been done…

”Oi!  Keep those legs from movin’!  I’m gonna finish this thing off!” he shouted at Diana before taking off across the beast’s carapace, shifting Matchstick to volley form as he moves to the back side.  If one shot to the tail made it this angry, let’s see how it reacts to five in the place where the sun don’t shine.

Kisha let out a slightly annoyed "Hmpf" as the second creep jumped away from her. Damn, she was out of practice. A movement out of the corner of her eye drew her attention to the three newcomers who were ready to pounce at her. With a quick aerial cartwheel to the side, she dodged the three creeps, and wiped a few strands of hair out of her face as she landed, "Eyyy, easy, I've got enough for all of you."

Her eyes wandered over her four opponents and she let out a chuckle as she flipped over her dagger, so that the blade pointed down, and stormed forward. A frontal attack, or at least it should look like this. The dusty and slightly rough floor of the Colosseum gave her the perfect opportunity to jump to the right, just before she was in reach of the Grimm, and slide past them in a quick movement. Now in their Blind Spot, Kisha didn't waste a second and raised the dagger for the attack.

The overextended hunter-in-training barely had time to finish cutting through one Creep before its companions joined the fray, a tail lashing through the smoke created by the dissipating corpse to sneak around his legs and knock Tieren on his back. It succeeds, but not before Tieren is able to take a firm grip on the tail and slam the offending Grimm hard onto the floor next to him. "Lookie here, I got a morningstar and I'm not afraid to use it!" Tieren grins before swinging the unfortunate Creep in circles around his head, potentially giving the other two Creeps bitchslaps across the face depending on the distance before hurling it high in the sky. An easy target for their team's sniper to take - provided she was paying attention to the entire battlefield.

Clearing his immediate surroundings by swinging his sword a full circle around him before standing up, Tieren takes a battle-ready stance, left hand held in front with fingers doing a recognisable "come on" gesture while his right held his fully extended sword behind his back.

After a brief moment of relief at hitting her shot Diana shouted "I'm on it!" in response to Smokey. Still on one knee she pulled the bolt of her rifle back, ejecting the bullet casing. Grabbing a new ice round from the pouch on her belt she reloaded and raised her rifle to take aim again while quickly surveying her surroundings. Two creeps were stalking ever closer to her, but as they weren't charging yet they didn't take priority. Smokey was, for lack of a better word, riding the Deathstalker. A regular shot at this range was unlikely to do anything and another blast of ice now would probably dislodge as much as it would add. Kisha and Tieren both had several Grimm around them but they were moving too unpredictably for her to safely shot in their vicinity, that was until a creep was thrown into the sky, although surprised Diana nevertheless lined up her shot and took it.
