Misa Nightfaerie
« on: September 24, 2016, 07:41:38 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Misa Nightfaerie (Real name Sasha Dalein)

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Human female

Symbol:

Occupation: Beacon first year student

Appearance: Misa has long black hair that usually runs down to her mid back. She occasionally wears it in different styles, but it is usually just left straight down. She has very pale skin and quite large brown eyes. On the back of her head she bears a scar from the incident that caused her to lose her memory, and she bears several smaller scars, most notable one long one running the length of her shoulder to elbow, and one diagonally across her stomach. People occasionally may mistake Misa for being younger than she actually is. Along with her almost childish personality, she is quite small. Only standing at around 4 feet 8 inches, and with very little muscle on her frame she appears quite young too. Her frame is a decent hourglass though she is lacking a little in the chest department.

In terms of clothing she usually wears regular casual clothing, often wearing a plain t-shirt and jacket with a knee length skirt. She often wears a hood or hat to hide the scar on her head, because she thinks it looks ugly. In combat she trades out her regular clothes for a uniform that allows her much easier and quieter movement- a dark pair of trousers and long sleeved t-shirt allow her to stay hidden easier. Underneath she wears leather pads that help her absorb a little damage if her aura fails.

History: Misa doesn't remember most of her life. She has a strange case of amnesia that prevents her from remembering anything that happened shortly before entering Beacon. She is always trying to follow any clue that may help her remember. The following in spoilers is what she cannot remember.

Spoiler: ShowHide
Sasha was born into a family of experienced thieves based in Mistral. Her parents were a duo of expert infiltrators who would take any job they could find, no matter how difficult or how high the security. When their daughter was born they saw an opportunity. They were both beginning to get old, and their skills were declining. But this new child could be raised as an even better thief than the two of them put together. She was trained from a young age to use a variety of tools and weaponry to prepare for her job.

Sasha began with a very narrow view of the world. Her parents made sure that she didn't leave their sight, and she was only allowed to meet with other people very occasionally, in case she let slip any important information. She first began missions at the age of fourteen. She began with comparatively simple tasks; stealing from low security areas, mapping out potential targets, etc. As she had been trained since she was extremely young, she was unable to tell that what she was doing was bad. All of her education revolved around fighting and stealth techniques.

It all went wrong when Sasha was sixteen. An opportunity arose that was impossible to miss: a shipment of valuable cargo being transported from Mistral to Vale via airship. At first it seemed like it would be easy money; take out any guards, take the object of importance and flee using a personal flying craft that would be piloted by Sasha's parents. However the plan didn't take into account the fact that others had noticed this valuable opportunity, namely the White Fang. They were tasked with destruction of the ship and the cargo it held. Sasha entered the ship and, as planned, breached the cargo hold. She quickly found the object; an extremely valuable piece of military equipment. The plan was to sell it off for a large sum.

Unfortunately the first White Fang charges went off before Sasha got out. Seeing the explosions from afar, her parents flew in to save her. As the airship began to lose altitude Sasha was retrieved and loaded onto the smaller craft. However the White fang would not allow survivors. Firing shots at the thieves' ship as it flew away they managed to damage it. It too began to fall, but the pilots managed to fly it to Vale before crash-landing. Only Sasha survived the crash, though with heavy head injuries as well as multiple other deep wounds over her body. She was brought to a nearby hospital as quickly as possible.

She came round a few days later, however the damage to her head and loss of blood caused a severe case of amnesia, causing Sasha to forget her history and identity, though retaining her skills in combat and infiltration.

Sasha awoke to find she was in a city hospital she had never been to before, with a strange man who it turned out had saved her sitting by her bed. But the thing that worried her the most was that she had no memories at all of her previous life. No name, no past, no parents. She retained certain abilities such as her combat and stealth skills, but she had no idea where they came from.

Her saviour stayed with her while she recovered in hospital, and noticing she had no memories decided to take her under his wing. She took the name Misa Nightfaerie to be her name until she remembered her old one. The man began to train her, quickly discovering she had incredible skill from training nearly all her life. He pressed her to enter Beacon, figuring she would make a great huntress, and maybe the training would bring up a few memories. And thus she entered Beacon when she turned 17, hoping at some point she would discover the key to her past.

Personality: Misa's personality is rather peculiar when her history is taken into account. When in casual situations she acts very bright and cheerful, and sometimes even childish despite her age, maybe as a subconscious nod to a childhood she never really had. Misa is always willing to make new friends. She can however be very shy around people she doesn't know as she is not sure how they will respond to the fact that she has very few memories before Beacon. She doesn't like to insult people and if she feels like she has hurt someone's feelings she will apologize profusely. On the rare occasion that she does not particularly like someone she tends simply to avoid them, preferring not to speak to them. If they approach her she will act quiet, talking as little as possible to them.

She prefers to keep the scar on the back of her head hidden, though she doesn't really keep it a secret. She just thinks it is unpleasant for people to see. When she is trying to remember her life she often scratches the scar as if it might help her remember. She spends a lot of her time following clues that may help lead her to her family. She gladly accepts help from anyone who offers assistance in finding her past.

Aura and Semblance: Misa's semblance allows her to create an area around her that highly reduces the amount of noise she makes and renders her nearly invisible. Moving more or making more noise renders this ability less useful so using these in open combat is nearly pointless. The area is created in a rough sphere shape around her, reaching about a metre in radius. If anyone enters this area the effect is broken, and the enemy will be able to see and hear her.

Using her semblance for a minute uses about 20% of her stamina. Therefore she can use it continuously together for about five minutes. She tends to use this if stealth is imperative or if she is in a particularly tricky situation.

Combat Behavior: Misa's behaviour changes in the field of operation. She becomes less talkative, though only because she is concentrating. Preferring to opt the stealth way in rather than killing everything in sight, she is very calculating and will only attack if it is absolutely necessary or it is the perfect time to strike. She often uses her semblance to get as close to an opponent as possible before striking, preferably taking them down in one move.

If she is forced into combat she can still very well defend herself, though. Her fighting style is clean and deadly. In Misa's fighting there are no unnecessary flourishes or aesthetics. It is purely a way of taking out the enemy as quickly as possible. Her reflexes are fast and she is very acrobatic, allowing her to dodge attacks easier than some.

Her main weakness lies in her lack of strength. While she is agile and has heightened reflexes she finds it tough to bring a lot of power into her strikes. She will often attempt to retreat if she realises she's outmatched. In such a case she will attempt to stun her opponent or create a distraction before running into the shadows, taking the opponent by surprise again if it is imperative to incapacitate them.

Having been trained in infiltration Misa is very capable of not being spotted by an enemy, even without a semblance. When not in a rushed situation she can move almost silently without her semblance being required. This allows her to sneak into areas even if they are quite closely guarded with relative ease.

She has also recieved training in the use of many weapons, though is most adept with a dagger. Her abilities with, say, a sword would be very dangerous, but against anyone with much training she would probably lose. With a dagger she is able to keep up her speed and agility as high as possible.

WEAPON

Name: Noctis

Primary Form: A small dagger that Sasha is very adept with in combat. It has a leather bound hilt dyed plain black. The blade reaches about 7 inches in length.

Secondary Form: At the click of a button the blade splits apart to reveal the barrel of a pistol. This can be fired with high accuracy at even long ranges, though it lacks in comparison to other weapons in terms of damage. One of the handles from the third form opens to form a handgrip with a trigger, and a clip of 12 bullets can be loaded in through the bottom of the hilt that opens up.

Tertiary Form: Another button causes the blade to split into what vaguely resembles a grappling hook. Two parts of the hilt spring out sideways to create a better handhold. The blade can now be ejected with a string of rope attached and can be used to scale buildings, mountains, etc. It can only hold her weight plus a little more if she is carrying something important.

Other equipment: As a trained infiltrator, Sasha often brings a lot of other and devices with her on her missions. They can vary but often include things such as smoke bombs, flashbangs, night vision goggles, etc. She rarely enters combat with an offensive weapon other than her dagger, however. She often uses this equipment as distractions or the like.

History: Since she was young Sasha showed particular prowess using a dagger over any other weapon so it was only sensible for her parents to have a specialist one made. She was given Noctis shortly before her first mission, and it never left her side. It contained what her parents thought to be some of the most useful functions for their daughter. It was one of the few things Sasha had with her when she lost her memories so she hopes it can somehow help her find her memories.

Combine the two actives into one, costs as well, and it'll be fine. Two different, distinct actives is a no-no.

Otherwise looks fine.

Ok so using her semblance (making her less visible and quieter) for a minute takes 20% of her abilities, right? Caaaaaan do!

Appearance.

You could've at least given her something aside from casual clothes >_> This is a combat school after all.

History. Let me just say that any 'secret assassin training' or Bourne Legacy stuff would probably get shot down(whole amnesia bit). If you're planning on adding her past history in a future thread I suggest adding it in the spoiler rather than waiting for people to reprimand you for anything absurd once she's approved. That way it'll be less problems in the long run. Unless of course you're just lazy and don't want to start with her childhood history but as I see it she'll still need one.

Personality could use a bit more. it's only a few sentences long, doesn't tell us much and she might as well be an extra with that much depth.

Aura and semblance. How wide is this area? Does it move with her? Or is it stationary and she just uses it to hide in one spot. how wide is it? What happens if someone enters that area? What happens if she attacks? Clarify these issues.

Combat behavior. I advise you not have her change 'drastically' as inconsistency is very benefiting of a proper profile. Being bright and cheerful than suddenly dark and edgy during battle is pretty much a turn off.

Now one thing in particular is bugging me.

Quote
Misa has a bonus ability with the use of her neural implants. These heighten her senses, particularly sight and hearing, allowing her to hear and see as well as any faunus. The implants also raise her reflexes which allows her to parry incoming attacks or dive out of the way with only split seconds to react. Of course they do not boost her speed or strength so she cannot block attacks that are too strong or dodge attacks that are too fast.

This was never mentioned beforehand and they're technically useless lest you have a supercomputer in your brain or a specialized replacement organ. The human eye and ear are gonna be the same no matter what gadget you stick in it because the body has limitations. Remove that section, if this borders on lab character tier stuff I'll have to ask you to edit the whole thing.

This was not mentioned in history. Expand that part. Make your sections coincide with each other and don't come up with mary sue tier stuff. Former assassin. former secret agent.

weapon use is also vague, as if you're saying she can use any weapon but is extremely talented with the sword and dagger to the extent only true pros can be sure to win.

Weapon

With aura protection Poisons and other injectable illicit substances probably won't do anything to someone who's had their aura unlocked. Against grimm? We don't know. You could keep it but it might be completely useless (unless you're gonna make her a killer as a side jop *sigh*)

Weapon history mentions her parents however it's not even in her main history. Remedy that.

Uhh, ok. Sorry Xarias; I think there might have been something gone awry here. I have some issues with some of the stuff you have said.

Appearance: Ok, that's cool. I kind of intended the stealth clothes to act as her combat attire but I'll probably add some kind of armour under it or something.

Personality: Yep ok I'll edit all of that.

Aura and Semblance: Yep I'll edit that too.

So where I have the issues are in the rest of the review.

Reading what you wrote in the history really screwed with my head. Too lazy to start with childhood history? Add stuff into the spoiler?

Reading other sections you mentioned the neural implants were not mentioned before, and you say there was no previous mention of her being trained in infiltration.

Uhh, I think you didn't read the spoiler. All of her childhood history, training and augments are explained in there! I would guess the reason for this falls under three reasons:

1. You didn't see the spoiler
2. You didn't want to click the spoiler in case it contains spoilers for RWBY season 4 (it doesn't!)
3. Your device didn't display the spoiler properly, leaving it blank.

Inside the spoiler is a wall of text explaining most of the stuff you said I haven't mentioned. I just ask you to try opening it again. If it still shows up blank or only a small chunk of text I'll take all of it out of the spoiler and put it in brackets.

I'll get straight onto editing the other bits tho

I clicked the spoiler, and no I was not expecting volume 4 spoilers >_>.and I probably thought the first paragraph was it... brain must've gone dumb i first read it(no that's not an insult), or my mind was wandering on someone else profile. My bad. Now regarding the neural implant, still a big no. It doesn't make sense. I guess contract killer parents isn't too bad just...distasteful, especially if they send a ten year old to steal around, seriously, at that age yang and ruby were probably barely able to swing anything. Do what you want with that but...ten years old? seriously? Main problem is her age...it's almost cringeworthy to be honest.

Trained assassin by assassin family suddenly gets a change of heart and amnesia. Like I said, Bourne.

Now, the main problem is the fact that her family didn't look for her. I'm pretty sure people of their caliber would be capable of finding their own daughter. The first place a bunch of people would look for a hired killer is hospital records if they suddenly disappear because wounds, dead found, injured. that kind of stuff. Come up with a reason to explain why her pro assassin family didn't find their baby assassin in the CITy no less. Unless they died somehow.

Ok history has been overhauled, and I think I have made enough edits in other sections to fit the new stuff. Edited second form of her weapon too.

Ahh, last note. Can you add a clip size for her gun form? Don't wanna have unlimited ammo pistols now do we (Hollywood please)
