Title: First Year 1v1 bracket- Round 1: Akeldama Blood-Heart vs. Ayaka Miyamoto

“Good afternoon friends, competitors, and sponsors alike and welcome to the forty-first bi-annual Vytal Festival tournament!” a refined and silvery female voice would say through the arena’s sound system, very unbefitting given the amount of cheering that overtook the arena. “My name is Primrose Cyrillo Palatine II, Professor of Combat Etiquette & Flow here at Atlas academy! Here with me in the booth is Hunter d’Azur, Professor of Battlefield Strategy and Combat Survival Training! Who...unfortunately had to step out for a moment!” Although nobody in the audience could see, the amateur announcer would struggle to hold back the anger that she harbored towards her partner and co-announcer.
“Well anyhow, I’ll not keep you from the surely amazing fights to come! In this first round of the first year 1v1 we have Akeldama Blood-Heart, the super-hearing Beacon student vs. Ayaka Miyamoto, the swift swordswoman also from Beacon!”

Suddenly, the bang of a door rings out through the arena as a tired voice begins to fill the arena, "Ah, I'm sorry I'm late.. I completely forgot about the tournament." Plopping down next to Prim, Hunter's sleep-addled mind could not stop him from making his thoughts clear. "Blood-Heart? Isn't that, uh... God, were they sparkly vampires or something?" Clearly, Hunter did not seem all too prepared, as the camera crew decided to start the environment spinner to begin the first fight.

A large holographic image of a lottery machine appears on all sides of the arena, with two spinners. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words. It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on River and Fire Dust Field.

The floor of the arena lowered and, in its place, arose two new floors. On Akel’s side, rough patches of grass were cut in half by a single river that slowly flowed off the arena itself. As for Ayaka, the floor would be filled with the rubble of destroyed boulders as fire dust crystals of various sizes are planted around the arena, ready to be detonated at the slightest touch.
As Hunter took his seat and the spinner did it’s job, Prim would shoot her partner a death glare that could incapacitate even the most veteran of huntsmen. Before the mics were quickly cut, a loud thud and a very angry “DO YOU KNOW HOW FU-” could be heard.

As the combat in the announcer’s booth began, so did the main event. The doors on each side of the arena opened, allowing the combatants to enter the arena.

(A coin flip has decided that Ayaka will get the first post. The arena size is identical to that of the 1v1 arena in the show, however, it features scaled down biomes to fit the size. Good luck, and may the best combatant win.)

Hours of training and meditation only slightly prepared Ayaka for what she saw before her. The landscape before her was barren of life, crumbling rocks and glowing red crystals jutted out of her half of the field, a stark contrast to the serene half of the opponent. She was dressed asymmetrically, as always, but instead of her usual casual attire she adorned several scattered armor pieces on her person. Wide left spauldron, right vambrace and fauld, and a classic cuirass above her heart while her hair was tied in a ponytail favoring the side, and pants ripped high on her left.  One sword hung low on her waist, almost half the length of the almost twice as long one on her back, while a adorning ribbon tied both.

As she walked into the arena, Ayaka studied her grounds with a scrutinizing eye. Unstable fire crystals and dirt. Crumbling boulders would serve for cover but the explosive dust might make short work of them. One wrong step could mean a disastrous end for any of them.

Grabbing her Nodachi and its sheath from her back, Ayaka walked into the arena poised and ready, an air of confidence and seriousness a cowl on her form. She stood steady, firm. Ready to react at a moments notice, but wasn't so crude as to not greet her opponent. With caution, Ayaka walked passed some fire dust crystals and carefully positioned herself near a boulder should one go off, and also for easy cover should she go under fire. There she waited for her opponent, wondering if she'd be a worthy opponent or a simple walk in the park.

Akel was excited, this was her chance to prove herself and what she could do. She was excited, slightly nervous amnd ready to fight as soon as the doors opened. Akel's signature weapon at her side as she made her way to her side of the battlefield. Pressing a button on dher headset that connected her earpieces to her headset, if the headset got knocked off she wouldn't be out and that was one way she didn't want br eliminated.

She heard the footsteps of her opponent and the drawing of her blade. Akel took it upon herself to  bring her blade off of her holster. Off to the side to keep the handle easier to grab with her other hand.

Similarly, Akel made her way near a tree, although a good portion of her body was visible, she carefully eyes her opponents field 'some destroyed boulders and fire dust crystals. Best to assume they'll explode easily just to be safe.. The white-haired participant waved her hand at the direction of Ayaka in a casual hello, hoping that her opponent would at least be a good sport.

Ayaka offered a short bow to the hiding Akel and readied her sword. The girl was hiding behind a tree, probably scouting what little space they had, but everything was still within range of Ayaka's semblance. She didn't have much to go with, given the small river and scattered dust, but if she brought the fight to her she'd surely have the advantage.

From what Ayaka she remembered, Akel had some sort of hearing semblance. They were both in their first year but she didn't really know the specifics other than the headset helped her somehow. If she were sensitive it would be easy to just aim for those itself, but that wouldn't be a fight at all and an insult to Ayaka's skill. She wanted a fair fight, one that would prove her skill rather than her wit, so cheap tricks were nothing but a last resort.

Composing herself Ayaka locked onto her target and aimed her sheathe at her, signifying the start of her attack, and grinned ever so slight before getting back into a readied position. "Here I come!" Ayaka cried, right before sprinting towards Akel's side of the arena. Right as she ran she unsheathed her Nodachi and swung outwards with her semblance, sending a powerful cutting blow towards the tree and she followed the strike as it closed in, minding her footing as she ran. The cut flew forwards as a bright white arc, longer than her 2m blade due to its arc and pulsing with energy. It outsped the running swordswoman  and aimed to cut right through the tree should it hit.

"Bring it!" Akel practically shouted, replying in kind as she heard the footsteps of the swordswoman, Akel couldn't remember much about Ayaka besides occasionally hearing that some people thought it was weird for such a long blade to be used. Akel was cautious and thought about the application of dust and acted ahead of time, seeing the blade be drawn Akel brought her left foot forward, her right hand, sword and knee going against the ground as she saw the energy fly over herself. Without losing much speed Akel pushed off with her right arm and leg after a very small delay to hopefully get her opponent close enough, her left hand grabbing the blade and going for a diagonal heavy strike. Following through by aiming her rotatable gun at her opponent to fire off several shots to get her to back off and give herself room to recover.

The strike may have been strong but it was also clear as day. Using her semblance to push against the side with her feet, Ayaka angled herself away from the strike while closing in. Ayaka intercepted the strike with one of her own, sliding a parry instead of static blocking effectively redirecting the strike and avoiding the shots that followed.

Akel pushed herself back, however, gaining distance to which Ayaka responded with another dash. She slashed the air rapidly so that aura slashes would appear behind her opponent a second later whilst she closed in, blade glowing faintly but visibly.

"Stop running and fight me properly!" Ayaka cried, lunging forwards with her extensive blade after releasing the slashes that appeared behind Akel like a web of light.

[OOT: I misunderstood the attack so the change is necessary.]

As the white-haired student came to a stop she reacted quickly, she needed to get past the range of Ayaka's sword, Akel heard a small sound and knowing that it was a one-on-one fight she made her way forward and getting nipped by all of the blades but focusing on her opponent infront of her.

Akel sidestepped slightly to dodge the lunge, gripping her blade in both hands she let her blade make contact with her opponents, flicking the transformation mechanism a small click was heard as the blade extended, Akel's grip changed to give herself a better hold whilst bringing it speeding towards her opponent. Before making contact the blade curved to form the shape of her scythe and aimed at the opposing girl's neck with where the blade and handle meet. Even if she didn't make contact Akel brought the former sword above her head in a smooth motion, a single spin of the weapon and Akel went for a second strike, using the momentum from the previous strike to ensure a swift and deadly follow-up aimed a bit more diagonally to slam Ayaka with the scythe, hopefully into the ground.

Blast it. Ayaka swore as judgement cut just barely nicked her opponent, one step further and it would have done serious damage. Her opponent was fast, fast enough to counter her lunge and respond with an attack of her own. Ayaka barely got her blade angled properly to deflect the first strike and rapidly drew her secondary blade to intercept the next.

Unfortunately the larger weapon crashed down strong enough to hit the weapon down, the much heavier strike powering through her static block. Using her shoulder to take the brunt of the damage she endured the hit and stepped away, quickly sheathing her secondary and bringing both hands back to her Nodachi. Ayaka slashed outwards as she regained her footing, trying to use her weapon's length to ward off her opponent and again as she got back into optimal distance.

Ignoring the pain that flared in her shoulder, Ayaka smiled for the first time since the fight began and forgot all about the audience's gaze. Cheers sounded muddled, the benches looked blurred, but the arena and her opponent were clear as day as adrenaline pumped through her veins.

Taking a step back she rapidly released a flurry of strikes, each followed through by an outward aura slash, effectively doubling the strikes. As each strike finished, a band of energy followed through a second later. Each attack was quick, but coupled with the semblance it felt like each strike hit twice in the same area. One steel, another aura. Being able to block every strike flawlessly would be impossible unless they themselves surpassed her skill many times over. This was the strategy she was going for, no rest and no quarter.

Ayaka stayed outside of her opponent's reach, just a centimeters difference, but she vowed to not let her get a strike in unless it mattered. One slash. Two slashes. Three slashes. Unlike the spherical web these just shot out of her blade. White hot bands of energy that would continue running unless blocked. Ayaka pushed forward, not giving ground and not allowing rest, an unrelenting barrage of slashes to tire out her opponent. head, body, and torso. High strikes and medium strikes. To take a head or to sever a limb.

Akel was glad to get the first hit in but annoyed that her follow-up didn't work. Gritting her teeth, annoyed that the combo didn't work. Akel wanted to continue her attack but stepped back as Ayaka slashed to gain distance the attack hitting Akel's stomach. Akel had to keep stepping back, gaining distance and keeping her sword in front of her body to black the majority of the semblance based slashed that she was in the range of.

Each strike that hit her blade made Akel just get more and more annoyed, she wanted to turn the tables but kept moving back to wait, for that one optimal move that could get massive damage in. Akel listened beyond the repeated bashing of her sword, each hit provided Akel with more sound to work off of and after the three strikes had finished Akel made her move.

Akel knew where the strike was coming from so instead of taking a step back she took a step forward, blade forcing Ayaka to stop her assault and the rims of her gun rotated, the small barrel aimed directly at Ayaka and letting off three rounds in rapid succession.

Ayaka wasn't going to stop just yet, though her blade was caught she had more than enough time to see the guns rotating towards her. Akel seemed to have forgotten one important thing, however. If her blade was binding Ayaka's, Ayaka could also move her blade.

"Resorting to firearms so soon?" Ayaka patronized, easing her blade to the side as she let hers slide away, redirecting the opponent's as she moved. With a small burst at her feet, she also moved to the side as quickly as she could, away from the gun barrel.

Unfortunately she was still within gunshot, and two bullets clipped her body as she moved away. One fully and another just glancing. She winced at the pain but continued her advance. The small but quick motion gave her more than enough room to stay within range, however, unlatching the bottom end of her blade as she revealed a wire spool in both ends. She fired on downwards, and another towards Akel, anchoring the wires to her side, while using the other ends to trap her opponent.

Several wires shot out towards Akel, while others hit several pieces of cover behind her. Since she was stubborn as an swallow, annoying and finicky to her relentless assault, Ayaka decided to humble her. In one swift motion, wires flew around and towards Akel with utmost speed, metallic sheen glaring to the eyes. Seven wires. That's how many were shot. They embedded in the ground, and into some trees nearby, forming an irregular web of razor sharp death. Two were flung around Akel, coming after the others on the sides, leaving little room to maneuver be it side, back, or top.

Ayaka left more than enough room for herself though, she had control of the field now and she was determined to win. One strong pull and the wires went taut, snapping into place, and the ones flowing over Akel, moved in to constrict. She moved as she pulled, watching her footing as she moved to the side, and adjusted her distance. Ayaka faced Akel, eyes stoic and leering, one hand on her blade and another caressing the wires from the spool.

Akel tracked the girl with her hearing as her blade was knocked, gripping the blade in both hands to bring it back towards a defensive stance. Akel heard the unlatching sound of something from her opponent and kept up the stance to use the sword as a shield if Ayaka was going to add dust to strike Akel.

Except it didn't come, she heard the sound of something small impacting from behind and two dings against the flat of her blade. Curious Akel moved her hand out to the side and saw the light reflect off of the wires as they were pulled to remove any slack 'damn it all, wires. I should assume that she can use her semblance on them as well just to be safe. From what I know she'll need to give the wires movement to activate'. the white-haired huntress theorized as she thought about how to deal with the situation.

Akel didn't have a choice as the wires closed in around her, she dropped her weapon, letting it slam into the ground as Akel moved her right hand out, feeling the wire wrap around her hand Akel ducked to avoid it wrapping around her body, Akel stood back up with the wire wrapped in her hand, the glove freezing the wire to stop it from tightening around her hand.

With her free hand, Akel slipped off the ice-covered wire as she stared Ayaka down. Her hand reaching for the handle as she pulled the blade back to her hands from underneath the wires. Akel had her weapon but it was too large to manoeuvre inside the wires, she stayed in the middle of the wires and decided that she was going to play Ayaka's game for now but, she wasn't going to let this be the deciding factor of the fight.

If there were more trees, Ayaka certainly would have made a better trap. Unfortunately given their small arena that wasn't the case. She gazed upon Akel as her wires dug in, one of them around the scythe user's hand, and picked out that wire from the many on her spool. The two that were deflected were reeled in, zipping quickly back into their spool, while Ayaka started charging her blade with energy.

Instead of attacking, she waited. Patient and calculating. Ayaka sheathed Swallow's Bane to hide the charge, but took a stance to show she was ready to fight. Every second that passed would increase her attack's power. Every moment, draining her energy for the next few strikes. The adrenaline rush was beginning to subside, and the earlier exchange was finally catching up to her. A bit winded, but nothing too drastic, she fought hordes of grimm along with her teammates that made her more tired. Her posture was still firm, her body still ready, all that changed was the loss of fire in her eyes.

She calmed herself, the bird was already in the trap. All that was left was springing it. This swallow was particularly large, a bit on the annoying side, and almost if not just as stubborn as she was. Blade in sheath at her side, and spool at the ready, she walked as she charged her blade, staring down Akel like huntstress would a grimm. The spool let out more lengths of wire as she walked, not too taut but enough to not let the others slack. They flowed like silvery sheens of light in the air and followed the swordswoman like metallic petals raining down in fall.

Her body was calm, her blade was ready. All that was left was waiting for her opponent to move. How many seconds would it be before that happened? One...two? Three? She counted and felt her blade charge, eyes never leaving Akel. The longer she waited, the faster she could end the fight.

A frustrated sigh left Akel's mouth as she looked at her situation, gripping her sword Akel took the same defensive stance as she had previously. She hated being trapped like this but she could tell that Ayaka was planning a big attack and Akel wasn't going to face that head-on. Akel's right hand on the handle of her sword and the left against the flat of the blade, the gap between the blade closing to form a large solid shield.

'this is most likely going to hurt. Just be patient and beat her after.' Akel thought as she braced for what she thought was an incoming strike. Digging her boots into the ground with one foot back to lower her centre of gravity and not fall flat to allow herself to be exposed for a follow-up strike.

Ayaka continued circling Akel, walking all the way to the end of her wires, and kept her blade charged. Several seconds passed and she could already feel the power building up in her blade, her body itched to let it loose. Akel just stood there, hand on sword as always and didn't move an inch. She was wary, as one should be, but she made the wrong move. Ayaka was counting on her to stay in place.

In one swift motion Ayaka pulled the wires taut, tightening her web around Akel while the razor sharp threads snapped into place. Wires glowed white as aural fibers shot out from the ones nearest Akel, threatening to barrage her with a flurry of minor cuts while in the same motion Ayaka began drawing her blade.

Ayaka pulled again, unlatching the wires while reeling in her spool, the action forced the wires to converge in an attempt to wrap around Akel. Steel became white and the net was cast, Ayaka used her semblance again and several more aura wires followed the direction of the ones moving in, doubling the chances of trapping the swallow, or rather white bat, in her cage.

In one swift motion, nigh simultaneous to the wires closing in, Ayaka unsheathed her blade and slashed diagonally upwards. Energy shot out as a white arc, more than 2 meters in length and traveled rapidly towards her opponent. Continuing her motion from earlier she slashed again, opposite of the one earlier but the energy disappeared from her blade. Judgement cut activated and it manifested right behind Akel.

Ayaka divided the energy into three attacks. Front, Back, and for the last one, top. She slashed downwards in an arc, cutting the ground as the last slash disappeared, manifesting above Akel. Letting out a breath as she finished her attack, Ayaka deftly brought her blade back, everything happening in less than a split second, and slowly slid Swallow's Bane into its sheath.

The attack took a small toll on the swordswoman as she felt her stamina drain. It usually didn't take much to use her semblance normally but the attack she just performed used a lot in a short amount of time. She didn't show it outwardly however, remaining calm with posture rigid and straight, but she knew that unless she took a short reprieve her attacks wouldn't hit as hard afterwards and her movements more sluggish. She stood firm, hand on blade as she thought out her next move. Ayaka was prepared to finish the fight, however, and she wouldn't take stamina as an excuse for loss.

Akel braced herself for the incoming attack, hearing the blade unsheath she was ready for the attack to her front. However, Akel heard the wires being reeled in and put her arm out to stop the wires, one hand still on the handle of the blade and the other vertically facing to have the wires pressed against her gauntlet as she braced to make sure that the wire didn't close around her completely.

Akel got knocked back, not much but the blade was not out of the ground and pressed against the bat's right shoulder. With both arms unable to do anything Akel could only grit her teeth as she heard a familiar sound and pain rip through her back. Akel was still standing by sheer force of will but felt the strain of the wires disappear. The slash to her back causing them to be cut.

Akel was getting ready to strike before she heard another sound, from above and she brought her blade up to try and block the blade slash, partially succeeding but she still felt it strike her shoulder and forcing her left knee to impact the ground. Annoyed, Akel gripped her blade with both hands, the pain on her body slowly subsiding as she got up, eyes that could kill were staring ay Ayaka. 'this is nothing' Akel repeated to herself in thought, to her pain was having her headset taken off, everything else felt dull in comparison.

It took Akel only a moment before she realised that Ayaka would be exhausted or at least winded from that use. Akel never had to worry about it but it was a general rule that she had learnt from seeing others fight was that overusing the semblance was similar to over-exertion on the body. Looking at the board she saw her aura nearing halfway and saw that Ayaka had a bit over 20% lead, Akel needed to level out their levels and if she was right then she had the chance.

Not wasting any more time Akel went full sprint towards Ayaka, focused and ready to deal some damage. First Akel went for an obvious downward strike, pulling back at the last moment, to turn her slash into a thrust that was aimed at Ayaka's abdomen. Akel would bring her blade to the left as she triggered the transformation, using her left hand to stop the blade and to allow a faster strike as she brought it towards Ayaka's thighs to sweep her off of her feet. Following through Akel would bring the weapon up and letting her left-hand grip the handle low and go into a heavy downward strike with the aim of striking Ayaka's chest with the tip of her scythe.

As she expected, Akel broke out of the wires the second her strikes hit. It was a good attack but unlike other participants, Ayaka lacked anything with raw stopping power. It was unfair, she thought, that aura was indiscriminate in that regard, making her sword strike deal as much damage if not less, than a staff of the same weight.

Ayaka brought her sword up as Akel charged and attacked, and used the weapons' length as a long parry to redirect the blade to the side despite the following feint into a  thrust. If her opponent knew anything at all, it would be way more effective to strike diagonally, the difference in skill was apparent to her, or so she thought.

Despite her aura being lower, Akel still had her stamina. Ayaka, being winded by her earlier attack, moved too slow to block the low sweep and landed square on her behind, her lengthy sword becoming unwieldy too slash from her position as Akel winded up for a strong attack.

She remembered, however, that even though she wouldn't be able to use it to slash away, it was still as long as a spear. Ayaka braced herself for the strike, moving ever so slightly to the side, gripping her sword on the blade as well as its handle. She thrust upwards as the point of the scythe met her shoulder, and aimed to use Akel's momentum to get a good stab in exchange for her incoming hit.

The scythe slammed into her shoulder, hitting the armored plate, but still taking its full toll on her aura. Pain flared from the blunt force trauma alone and Ayaka cried as she tumbled away, using a burst of aura at her feet to gain distance. On her knees she smiled, a bit proud of her opponent's reactions and wondered if she'd get a good fight from this after all.

Letting out a breath, she sheathed her blade and sat in seiza, using her brief respite to recuperate while letting out an air of defenselessness. Swallow's bane and its sheath was still in her hand however, and Masamune on her waist, she'd be ready to draw if need be and hopefully regain her composure.

Akel was happy that the gap was closed but slightly annoyed that she wasn't able to bring the aura levels closer since she was forced to take the stab. Letting the scythe revert back into its sword form, Akel could only raise an eyebrow at her opponent as the rims of her weapon turned and the barrel aimed at Ayaka as she saw the girl sheath her blade. Several bullets went flying towards the girl's diaphragm to hopefully keep the girl winded.

Akel was playing it safe by attacking from outside the girl's immediate sword range but she wasn't making use of her proficiency with rushing and combo damage.

Bullets flew and Ayaka drew her blade, stepping forward as she did to intercept the bullets mid flight. Metallic clanging echoes in her ears as she blocked two bullets but the third hit her chest. Ayaka winced in pain and tried to ignore the flare on her chest as she took another step forward.

She longed to use her semblance but thought against it, still taking some more time to ease the fatigue. It wouldn't be forever, but in battle mere seconds felt like minutes, and minutes hours. Around 30% left was all she had to deal to win the fight but numbers didn't equate to skill. She took enough damage, enough time, with one opponent alone. There was no need to stall and be patient unlike in larger battles. All she needed was to win.

Leaping from her lower stance, Ayaka sheathed her blade and drew her spool in one swift motion. She spun, lashing wires out as she closed in and spread the weapon out like metallic tails whipping towards Akel. The wires weren't taut, as they weren't bound, but they did present a threat. Binding.

Even if Akel would block with her sword the wires, numerous in number, could possibly get caught. If she dropped the sword they might tangle on each other if they hit Akel. Ayaka doubled up on the attack by using her semblance, mimicking the trajectory of the wires as bands of aura formed behind them to push forward and offer little more than threads of silver and white in her opponents immediate vision.

Akel heard the sound of the reel activating, the spin was obvious and she could understand what Ayaka was trying to do. Akel didn't want to have a repeat of getting stuck between some wires. So Akel jumped forward, above the wires as she sent three more bullets towards her opponent.

As Akel landed she used her acquried momentum for a strong downward strike. Although this was nothing more then a feint with minimal strength behind the attack and mostly used momentum to strike. It looked serious enough to draw Ayaka's blade upwards. Akel's real aim was to land and go into a forward roll to get into Ayaka's perdonal space and deliver a upward strike to Ayaka's stomach and putting her blade slightly into the ground to keep it standing up and following through with another strike aimed st the same area.

With her hands on her wires, and her blade sheathed, Ayaka reeled her wires as Akel jumped and stepped back as the latter shot and then descended with a strike. Luckily, after stepping back, she was at a far enough distance to see the feint and react.

Ayaka held her wires in both hands, fingers moving deftly to make a catch net as Akel swung upwards. She dodged the swing by a hair while still wary of the sword left behind. A follow up strike followed through and instead of dodging Ayaka moved in and stopped the attack with her net, slowing the fist to a crawl but still getting a good hit in the stomach. She twisted the wires in an attempt to bind Akel's wrist. Not waiting for a counter attack, Ayaka then closed in for a classic over the shoulder throw and flipped her opponent down to the ground in one fluid motion. She kept the bind on her wrist, to have more leverage, and grinned as she completed her throw.

Akel managed to soften the impact by using her free arm to hit the ground and impact the ground on an angle, rolling to the right as she placed a foot onto the ground and tugged her bound hand towards herself in an attempt to make Ayaka shift forward. Akel used her free hand to punch Ayaka in the ribs and stepped towards her opponent with her left side, pulling her right hand back and using her right knee to deliver a strike to the girl's stomach.

Finishing off, Akel also delivered a strike towards her opponent's head with her left hand in a fist to bring her to the ground.

Ayaka expected quick retaliation but being as average as she was with hand to hand took a punch to the ribs before she could properly defend herself. She held no praise for Akel, being as crude as her fighting was, and equated the brawl to animal instinct rather than practiced skill. Like anyone else in Beacon, however, she had decent reaction speeds and obvious training. Ayaka would have been disappointed if that wasn't the case at all.
Biting through the blunt force trauma, she brought Masamune up, sheath and all, to block the knee strike. Ayaka reacted quickly and yanked her wires in turn to pull Akel's arm while striking towards the girl's abdomen with the butt of her handle. In the same motion, she'd draw back ever so slightly and draw her blade to strike the incoming punch to her head, attempting to punish Akel for her brashness.

Akel took the hi to her abdomen, pulling back from punch to the head as she saw Ayaka draw her blade out of the sheath. Still unarmed Akel switched up and didn't follow through with her punch aimed at her opponent's head. Instead switching up as she knew that Ayaka was armed, a small step towards her opponent's left side put Akel in a more ideal position as she had an easier time utilizing both fists.

The bat faunus activated the ice dust in her gloves and started a light barrage of punches, several punches came first, tagetting Ayaka's stomach and ribs to cause a section of ice to slow eliminate her ability to move. Akel did this to force her opponent to play defense, to focus on preventing further buildup of ice while Akel would use this opportunity to continue with her assualt, Akel would then change her area of focus to deliver a straight left towards Ayaka's hand that held her sword to freeze her wrist and follow-up with a brutal right hook to Ayaka's face to force her opponent back.

It wasn't much to get a hit in but for some reason Akel kept resorting to her punches. The first two punches alerted Ayaka and she hopped back a step and stayed out of reach of the rest. She needed no more but to keep retreating as she advanced, and decided to wait until a big strike to continue her assault. The ice on her torso made it hard to twist, but luckily her feet were more than free enough to dodge back. The low strikes weren't much of a problem, and even without hand to hand proficiency it was definitely not as bad as dodging firearms, even with the ice. The only problem she saw was the continuing frost on the gloves, and a slight block with her sword revealed they were indeed caking with ice.

Getting back into her rhythm, Ayaka merely tugged every now and then on the wired hand to change its course then waited for the large swing before deflecting with her smaller blade. Masamune began freezing as expected, but Ayaka wasn't going to wait for it to reach her hand. The katana felt colder than usual and the steel began getting heavier as ice built up in that instant, Ayaka let out a gasp to feign surprise then quickly let go of the handle, blade and all. Letting go of her sword mid-block, she tucked under and spun, unsheathing Swallow's Bane and bursting forward with a semblance aided draw cut, using her massive reach to stay clear out of the way of the punch and a burst of aura at her feet to carry her forward. Her hand still held the wire and would tug at Akel's own as advanced with enough to drag her along and spin her if she wasn't careful. Finishing off with a touch of her semblance Ayaka activated Judgement cut and a slash manifested behind her towards the bound Akel, replicating her feat while glowing white hot in the air right as she spun back to reface her opponent.

Akel became more frustrated as her opponent kept up the defensive but annoyed that her opponent didn't act as she had planned. Irritated she took note of Ayaka's obvious gasp as something that seemed forced and odd to what she had noticed from Ayaka.

Akel saw where her opponent's hands were leading and could tell that Ayaka would try to go for an attack straight away, without her weapon Akel had to go for the dodge and decided it would be best to jump over her opponent due to the size of her enemy's weapon. As planned, Akel landed beside her blade as she used her free hand to grip the blade while she felt the tug of the wire. Moving and putting the weapon between her opponent and herself, Akel would slide the wires while pulling them taut with the sound of the wires snapping, a semblance based slash impacting the blade. Not free Akel kept an eye on her opponent's blade for another semblance based strike as she let three bullets with a few seconds inbetween each shot to keep her opponent back.

Ayaka deflected to the best of her ability as lead flew her way and managed to block two bullets while taking the other to her shoulder. She bit through the pain and decided to push Akel back, to the dust covered portion of the field.

With large sweeping slices Ayaka aggressively pushed, her massive reach more than a challenge for her opponent to block, but with every other step slash powered by her semblance, the blade wielding girl was more than just an intimidating force on the field. Each strike moved swiftly and fluidly, like swallows in flight, and no movement was wasted for the first series of hits. A quick rising cut aimed to strike Akel diagonally across the head, followed by an immediate follow up horizontal one, and with a small amount of effort, a semblance boosted kick as she spun and created a semi-lunar arc as she dashed for Akel's left side and slashed from there. Ayaka attacked aggressively and determined, now that their aura's were at the same level, and now more than ever did she feel the need to cut her opponent down to size. The fact that she was able to keep up was a fluke, and she was certain she was the better swordsman. ALIA was lacking in the last tourney so she wanted more than ever to prove her worth.

Akel was moderately surprised that her opponent didn't manage to block the third shot. However, she was irritated when her opponent started rushing because that would mean she would surely use her semblance, knowing that the rush was going to come to Akel immediately started to think about how she would strike.

Akel didn't expect Ayaka to aim for her head and took the strike, her headset getting knocked off her ears in the process and hit the ground, the sudden increase in noise caused Akel to lose focus but in the few moments that it took for her earpiece to adjust, she had put her weapon to her right to block the attack and moved to the right as Akel turned to the right to keep her focus on Ayaka, the earpieces adjusting to the pre-established settings caused everything to seem quiet as she felt the wind tickle her ears, at the same time she placed her hand against the flat of the blade as she felt the force of Ayaka's blade impact her own.

Angered that her headset had been damaged and possibly having to be replaced, she went on the attack and stepped forward as she angled her blade and trigger the transformation. Swinging the rapidly transforming weapon to strike and catch Ayaka at her iced ribs with the area between the handle and the blade, only for her to step forward again and grip the handle properly as she twisted her own body to view the other side of the arena. This attack was to send Ayaka flying into a large chunk of fire Dust. Not one to waste the opportunity she let her weapon transform back into its sword form and unloaded most of the remaining bullets into the chuck of Dust to force an explosion as Ayaka would get close to the crystals.

Ayaka was perturbed at the fact that Akel somehow recovered in a split second after being hit, and even more so at the fact that she flawlessly blocked her sword twice after despite its speed. The slight loss of focus ended up catching her in the ribs, literally, when Akel's sword transformed even more absurdly quickly than she could react. It was odd, but the throw didn't leave her helpless.

While in midair Ayaka saw the large chunk of dust and easily put two and two together, watching as Akel aimed for a shot and reacted quickly enough to activate her semblance as a mid air boost away. Using both feet, Ayaka flipped and kicked backwards, the motion being mirrored by her semblance. As the streak of white formed as a blunt force punching outwards, she planted her feet on it and sprung in the opposite direction away from the explosion.

Shards of rock and dust flew in multiple directions as Ayaka landed but she easily regained her footing and started with a sprint. The earlier explosion chained into several smaller ones, triggering the scattered crystals peppered throughout the arena in a cacophony of dust and fire. Small bits of debris hit Ayaka as she ran but coming from the direction of the blast she used the shockwave to her advantage and lunged forwards. No matter how big Akel's stupid sword was it surely wasn't enough to block all debris coming for them. Ayaka shot forwards with a rapid stab but feinted into a leap. With a semblance boosted jump she slashed for Akel's head from above as she jumped above her and replicated the attack from behind as she landed.

As she touched the ground she shot out wires in multiple directions around her. The ends of her wires landed near more dust crystals as more explosions shook the arena and Ayaka had to deflect a couple of bits of debris, shrugging off most while taking care of larger chunks with her sword. She now had her own back back to the safer side and decided to rock everything a bit more by pulsing her semblance through the wires to activate dust scattered about, particularly the ones nearest Akel. Be it just as a distraction of kicking up more debris Ayaka wasn't going to lax in her assault.

Akel didn't think that Ayaka could apply her semblance in the air and was surprised to her almost dead stop, keeping her weapon in its scythe form, Akel gripped the handle and brought it into a spin as soon as the explosion happened.

Akel didn't expect this level of explosion to happen, she knew that it was a large chunk but the chain was unexpected. She kept her impromptu defence up as a caution and was glad that she did as she could see Ayaka racing towards her, she planted one foot back slightly and tilted her spinning scythe slightly upwards she was expecting an aerial attack. She kept her ground and let the blade slide down the handle of her scythe, scratching her hand,

After Ayaka passed Akel, the bat Faunus did a sidestep as she kept spinning her scythe, as she saw her opponent land Akel followed after her. Hearing the explosions Akel still followed, using her hearing to her advantage, Akel hit all sizeable pieces of debris as she got to Ayaka and went for horizontal strike, following with a shoulder bash and going back with another horizontal slash, the last 3 bullets of her gun being used at Ayaka after each attack.

Ayaka moved out of Akel's scythe range the second she saw her swing, unfortunately due to her range she couldn't bring her sword up in time to block the gun shot. Pain stung as her aura flared to the hit but she was used to the pain by now, especially with the last throes seemingly within reach. A crude shoulder bash came after, and somehow a gunshot (how?) to which Ayaka responded with by breaking off her wires whilst dashing backwards, easing her blade, and deflecting the shot; Ayaka moved her blade quicker by grabbing the flat and essentially holding it like one would a staff. Another cut came in and she caught it with her blade, stabilized by her half-swording. The follow-up shot caught her in the chest but she ignored the pain and maneuvered the oversized farming tool's sharp side away with her better leverage. With her parry, Ayaka saw an opening after the shot and extended her arm, stabbing straight for Akel's torso then following through with a light cut upwards.

Replicating her attacks with her semblance, Ayaka activated judgement cut and continued the attack behind Akel, at her blind spot as she threatened her front. However, instead of waiting for judgement cut to finish, Ayaka pressed on and cut again in a massive arch, a threat that would catch anybody trying to simply move away. Ayaka aggressively pushed to end the fight within the next few seconds, vowing to do better than what her team showed during the last tourney. ALIA seemed but an Alliance by name, but perhaps with her display she'd send a message to her oft absent teammates, and persuade them to work harder, go on some actual missions, and maybe not be one of the least active teams in all of Beacon.

The bat faunus took the stab to her chest, stepping back and seeing Ayaka position herself to strike again, Akel stepped to the side to avoid the vertical slash and the possibility that Ayaka could use her semblance again to replicate the same strike. In the same motion Akel brought her sword from her right to her left, to deflect any incoming strike. Ayaka's blade hit her sword and Akel parried the blow, letting it slide along the flat of her sword as she manuvered it to go past her. As the blade went past Akel shifted her body and did a thrusting motion aimed at her stomach, triggering the activation of the scythe to extend her reach and make sure that she could land a solid blow on her opponent.

After it fully extended, Akel would bring the scythe back towards herself, lifting the blade upwards so that she could grip the lower end of the handle, following through with a diagonal strike from her right top to left down.

Ayaka didn't have to look at the displays to know that she had little aura left. Feeling her sword parried she decided to end the fight with something different.

The girl learned that not all opportunities presented themselves as she wished. She learned that the hard way. Plowing through the wishes of her family, and taking what pain she needed to make her own way. That's why she took up the sword. The way of the blade wasn't absolute however, and it always evolved. If she only thought with the sword, only moved with the steel, there would be  gaps in both offense and defense. That's why she used her semblance, to make due for her lack of range. Her wires to trap and ensnare, and her body, to move and protect herself.

A good solid hit was all she needed to win, and the same was practically true for her opponent as well. Despite that, she waited until the last moment of Akel's stab, staying out of range until the bat-faunus triggered the transformation. Ayaka acted fast and stepped forward sliding the scythe upwards against her kote(vambrace) and simultaneously slashed with her sword.

Steel grated against steel and Ayaka felt her aura get chipped as she parried the large blade. Fortunately, despite her aura taking damage, the kote dulled the pain and she went forward with her attack. With one last shout, Ayaka dashed forward with a massive dash, sweeping her long blade as swift as she could while staying outside of hand to hand range.

The air stood still as she activated judgement cut once more, and the slash arrived not one moment after, painting the air a white hue as the air rended from her attack.

The bat faunus hoped to deal the final strike with that last attack, her teeth gritted as she saw her opponent move out of the extending range of her stab. Still, Akel wasn't going to give up and saw the blade rise and used her free hand to deflect the strike, she had no more ammo in her weapon and she wasn't able to bring herself to a defensive stance. She tried to bring the handle of her weapon to block the strike but the blade struck her arm and sending her aura into the red.

Akel moved back to the side for the predicted use of her enemy's semblance to go past her. Sighing in her own loss but happy that she at least made it a close match.

Catalina clapped his hands at the thrilling conclusion to the match. In his mind is a few ideas at who he could counter that equipment, including the most obvious one: get far away. He really looked forward to how this next match would go as another test of him against close-ranged opponents. He remembers though, in terms of the tournament, every match can be the last and the same goes for everybody else. He really shouldn't be acting as if he has won the next match now.

It's over. She won. But for some reason it felt like things were just beginning.

With one last flourish and a flick of her blade, Ayaka sheathed Swallow's Bane and offered a short bow to Akel. Although not one to gloat she couldn't help but smile. "Not bad for a farming tool, you fight well." She managed, her smile disappearing as she saw her sidearm laying in the dust.

Masamune needed cleaning, being covered and dust and some remaining flecks of ice, and probably some resharpening as well. Knowing that this wasn't the best way to treat her sword she couldn't help but notice that without dropping it she could have lost the fight at that moment. The tiniest factors could determine a duel, but at the same time sometimes they determine the outcome of the fight before it even began. She sighed, wiping the blade off with a cloth before sheathing it, moving her much more massive sheath to her back as she comforted in the familiar presence of its weight by her waist.

There was clapping, as expected, but given her performance she felt like it was undeserved. Some of those claps, were definitely from future combatants. She shook her head, not wanting to linger in the crater filled arena and began walking for the exit. There was much preparation left to do for the next fight.
