Diamante Solar
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:24:41 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Diamante Solar

Age: 19, born Saule 27

Species and Gender: Male Human

Symbol: A prism, though the different colors of the refracted light are implied by separation of uniform white lines.

Occupation: Third year at Beacon, pasta chef/deliveryman

Appearance: Diamante is slightly below average height at 167cm and rather scrawny at 50kg. Between his small frame, fair complexion, medium-long blond hair, and silver-painted nails, one would be forgiven for mistaking him for female. Possibly due to constantly laughing off remarks to that effect, Diamante has adopted a permanent dimpled smile. All of this plus his aura and the way he dresses can create the illusion of his sky-blue eyes sparkling.

The outfit Diamante wears is designed to facilitate combat with his semblance; it's basically a mocap suit without the hat or the balls. There are small openings at key points along his upper body, on his hands, and on his feet for aura propulsion, and tubing coming down from the pouches around his waist to his feet for dust propulsion. He has a space on his back in which his weapon (in its primary form) clips into place. The shoes are frankly gigantic, boosting his height by a good three centimeters. Knowing this suit was, well, not particularly fashionable, Diamante has specifically tailored it to at least stand out. He wears a white undersuit to avoid exposing any of his own body, and made the outfit itself out of a translucent material that filters out the colored light from his aura into a dim blue glow that sparkles.

He carries a white canvas handbag containing his grenades and kinetic dust magazines in easily accessible pouches, as well as an extra pouch for whatever else he wants to carry. The bag is durable and of course fireproof. In addition to the pouches around his waist, he also carries canisters with a valve mechanism used for one-handed reloading of his weapon in its secondary form. These things seem determined to get in the way, especially in the air, but Diamante insists it's not a big deal.

The last piece of clothing worth noting is the hair net he wears at work when making delicious pasta and sometimes forgets to take off.

History: The Solar family were wealthy members of Atlesian society who made a name for themselves through their research in aeronautic engineering for the military. Being such respected figures, it came as a surprise when Diamante's parents decided to move to Vale. However, they insisted that Vale was a better place to give their soon-to-be-born son a happy childhood.

With their abundant wealth, it was no problem for the Solars to buy some property in Vale city and get their noodle business up and running. It was, however, a problem for the two parents alone to actually run said business. After a few years of steadily improving, the pair eventually got to the point where they were breaking even on revenue vs. expense while still keeping their saved fortune intact. When Diamante was eight, he took an interest in easing the burden of the business on his parents and started learning the recipes. By age thirteen, he was a full-fledged chef and deliveryman in his spare time, a job which helped him get to know the local community.

Of course, while noodles are indeed delicious, pasta life is somewhat of an empty existence for one with Atlesian blood. Craving fulfillment, Diamante asked his parents about enrolling him in combat academy. In response, they said that they would teach him themselves so long as he continued to help out with the family business. He agreed, and his parents devised a training schedule for him: Daily training in marksmanship, agility, and hand-to-hand combat would come from his father, while his mother would teach him aura control and Grimm behavior.

Eventually, Diamante accidentally discovered his semblance while simply fiddling with aura, trying to project it outward from himself. He had just noticed how brightly his aura shone when suddenly a pillar of it burst from his hand and pushed him backwards. After practicing with this and deciding on a practical use for it, he began developing his signature look and the weapon to go along with it.

Most boys started to look more distinctly masculine as they reached their teenage years, but not Diamante. His femininity and eccentric fashion sense made him stand out, and many of his childhood friends started to turn on him for fear of being bullied by association. For a few years, Diamante could always fall back on his best friend, Grell, who would defend him adamantly from anyone who made fun of him. However, when rumors started circulating that the two of them were involved in a homosexual relationship, Grell got embarrassed and quickly disassociated himself from Diamante.

Despite the worsened general opinion of him in the community, Diamante still put on a fake smile and continued serving customers in the shop. He still had profound respect for his parents and hope that he would find true friends at Beacon. As soon as he came of age, Diamante took and passed the entrance exam to the school.

Personality: Diamante is enthusiastic and friendly, always seeking people to interact with. He is eager to try new things and even more eager to make a scene, regardless of how doing so makes him look (for example, he would gladly take to the dance floor in front of everyone despite the fact that he can't dance to save his life and dresses like a human glowstick). He has a rather laid-back work ethic, taking to heart the notion of "play before work," yet mysteriously always seems to get his tasks done to a passable level on time. To this day nobody quite knows how he does it, though some suspect him of foul play.

Diamante is a straight male and identifies as such, but does openly admit to and embrace his feminine side. He tends to hang around and befriend women more than men due to experiences in the past that have caused him to generalize men as being macho, foolhardy, and rude and male interactions as nothing more than metaphorical dick-measuring contests. He recognizes this generalization as a personal character flaw and is actually down on himself for the difficulty he has in overcoming it.

Diamante is somewhat forgetful and has made a habit of constantly checking his scroll to remind himself of daily to-dos, times, requests from friends, and so on. He would be hopeless without a daily routine and in fact has been known to stand in the kitchen waiting for orders to come in on holidays when the noodle shop is closed.

Aura and Semblance: Diamante's aura is white and shines brighter than normal. His aura capacity is about 120% of what you would expect of someone his age, which somewhat makes up for his diminutive physical stature.

His semblance is the ability to create pillars of propulsion that push his body in a given direction. Using this ability, Diamante is able to engage in rudimentary aerial combat. Actually overcoming the force of gravity is strenuous. He can hover in place with moderate mental exhaustion, slow his downward acceleration with low exhaustion, and move along the horizontal plane with minimal effort. In the air, he can move around at just under running pace. The propulsion jets glow a bright white (with blue highlights where they penetrate through his suit) that is very easy to spot and track.

Forcing vertical height is extremely strenuous; he climbs very slowly and will tire out doing this for a mere 20 seconds.
Simply maintaining height is simple enough, and he can do this for a minute without landing at constant use. Even if he does land, though, five minutes of this over the course of a fight will cause him noticeable exhaustion.
Slowing his falls is hard to quantify, but in general doing just this will tire him out over the course of a fifteen minute battle, requiring a solid rest to be back in peak form.

Combat Behavior: Diamante excels at mid range and likes to alternate between aerial and ground combat. His greatest asset in combat is the height advantage he can gain on any target, though flying in the air may as well paint a giant bulls-eye right on his head for all to see if done at a bad time. He likes to target first the enemies that don't want to be targeted, such as the snipers hiding behind the big, heavy warriors.

On the ground, Diamante is actually accurate enough to hit a target at decently long range, though he likes fire in short bursts to manage recoil. In the air, he is less accurate, only able to reliably hit targets at the closer end of medium range. Thankfully, being in the air also makes it easier to aim and fire his grenades.

His hand-to-hand skills are limited and used exclusively for self defense in situations where he finds himself disarmed.

WEAPON

Name: Starlight

Primary Form: An automatic assault rifle that loads kinetic dust magazines. Under the barrel are two canisters that can be loaded with fire dust grenades, but are kept unloaded unless Diamante knows for sure he plans to fire them. The magazine is inserted just behind these canisters, which is convenient for transforming into its secondary form.

Secondary Form: All dust in the magazine is transferred to the two canisters, and the gun essentially breaks in half from here. The canisters realign vertically, the two halves of the barrel close themselves to form two separate, much narrower barrels, and the stock can be removed entirely. The gun is now two separate SMGs with rapid, inaccurate shots intended for use at close range. They can be reloaded one-handed by momentarily attaching the ends of the canisters to the larger canisters on Diamante's waist.

Though they have been referred to independently as Star and Light, Diamante has no actual altered name for the weapon in this form.

Dust Functions: Kinetic dust is used for basic firing. The magazines contain enough dust for thirty rounds of the assault rifle's firing, while each canister can support 45 of these smaller, weaker SMG shots. The ratio of amount of dust needed for an assault rifle shot compared with an SMG shot means that unloading a full magazine when transforming the weapon actually only fills each canister about two-thirds of the way.

The canisters can also be filled with grenades containing fire dust. These grenades have the option of using heat-seeking technology, though standard aura shielding will mask the natural heat signatures of huntsmen. This means Diamante will typically just aim them manually when facing non-Grimm targets.

Fire and gravity dust can be fired from the bottoms of Diamante's shoes to allow him vertical propulsion that gives him an initial height. Fire is used for low altitude jumps while gravity can propel him high into the air. For safety purposes, the shoes automatically disable themselves when Diamante is not on the ground; if he were to fire them while in the air, he could easily lose control.

Diamante carries fifteen magazines, ten grenades, and enough dust in his canisters to fire each SMG 360 times. The dust used in vertical propulsion is negligible; the amount he carries is always more than enough.

History: Made at home under his dad's supervision. A history of working with the Atlesian military meant that dad knew what he was doing, even if rifles were outside of his primary field of expertise.

Sorry for the extremely delayed response.

Symbol.... I can't really visualize it but it's not a big deal.

Appearance is fine.

History is... odd?

wat? Not a problem, just... confusing.

For semblance, we'd like to see the cost of the semblance. How long can he use it before becoming exhausted, how long can he "fly" for?

Your weapon is mostly fine but how it goes from Primary to Secondary is a bit confusing.

That's 100% dust infusion and not currently allowed.

Wasn't a particularly long wait, actually, so no worries there.

The noodle business thing... Well, opening a restaurant is a great way to... start a new life? I dunno, don't ask me, ask those weirdos at Solar's Noodle or whatever.

I'll make an edit giving numbers for the semblance.

Weapon was made intentionally vague because I'm absolutely terrible at describing how these changes work mechanically and I don't really consider it important anyway. I can try again if you absolutely need me to but as long as the transforming weapon doesn't break anything I don't see it coming up in rp.

As for "100% dust infusion" I don't even have the slightest idea what you mean by that. People launch themselves into the air by triggering dust all the time. It's more fashionable than walking in the RWBY universe. Just because it's fired from a shoe doesn't make it a different phenomenon. Perhaps "channeled" was a poor word choice? I just meant that it's moved from one place to another for use.

If the boots are similar to Mercury's boots then it's fine. But if they're just normal boots enhanced with dust, it's infusion.

It's a pair of boots with the ability to shoot dust from the bottom for upward propulsion, like how many characters use their weapons to move around. I wouldn't call it infusion. I'll go ahead and clarify that in the profile.

-As he's getting used to his semblance, I greatly increased his horizontal speed while flying. Other semblance parameters remain unchanged.

-I boosted his midair weapon accuracy; he is now deadly at medium range but his accuracy still suffers compared to when he's on the ground.
