Marigold Beckett
« on: September 11, 2016, 02:07:33 AM »
CHARACTER

Name: Marigold Beckett

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Human - Female

Symbol:
Spoiler: ShowHide

Occupation: Beacon 1st Year, Philanthropist, Chef, Aspiring Warlord

Appearance:
Face Claim: Mashiro Shiina: ShowHide
Marigold is a young girl with pale skin and a petite build. Her eyes are a shade of scarlet that stands out from her long flowing blonde hair. She is just slightly over B-Cup.

Combat/Semi-Casual - Replace the rollerskates with just normal black metal greaves: ShowHide
Her battle clothing has a gothic-lolita style fashion with yellow 'tron lines' on the sleeves and black armored gauntlets and greaves. This is topped by a black jagged crown.

History: During her childhood, Marigold's mother would take care of her while her father was a hunter specialized in border control. They lived in the rural regions of Vale. This wasn't to say that they were poor, in fact it was more of the opposite. The land her parents bought and constructed a homestead mansion on was both extremely beautiful and bountiful yet cheap due to practically being on the border of Vale where her father specialized in. It was fertile and excellent for farming, had a lake teeming with fish, and even veins of gold found within intersecting mountains which is kept secret but used generously. A small pass in those mountains with a river running along one side leads to a gorge and further on to a small but beautiful valley where the air is crisp and clean, has a few waterfalls that descend into a spring which leads into aforementioned river, often with deer and other wild animals that stay there to rest. It was in this valley where Marigold and her father constructed a miniature castle and would often play together for hours on end.

Marigold was special in a way that she was born with an extremely sensitive taste palette, and could taste the disgusting in a lot of foods. During daytime, her mother sent her to an extremely skilled but retired chef working at the inn on their property to learn how to make her own food to suit her "needs". The chef also taught her mother to make better food when Marigold was an infant.

At a young age, her father eventually retired at the age of 54 and they settled down, happy with what they had. However, Marigold wasn't quite settled. Though she enjoyed getting to spend more time with her father, she missed the stories he would bring home. This eventually led to her talking to her father about it, who said that she should go out and create her own stories for her future children. Soon enrolling in Signal Academy with the enthusiastic approval of both parents, she spent her time there training with the sword passed down to her by her father. After just about a few months, she made her shield and another few months later, she discovered her semblance.

After a while, she earned the nickname "Monarch Queen" from other students due to her basically controlling her own army in battle along with the more derogatory "Battlefield Cancer". After her time in Signal, she moved on to Beacon, ready to create the stories she loved as a child, with already a few to share. Along with that, extensive practice in making food for her peers have also made everything she makes worthy of haute cuisine. Unless it's something like PB&J + Deviled Eggs, or another dish of equal disgustingness. This gave her the nickname "Madame Cordon Bleu". While Marigold is studying at Beacon, her parents are working on turning the miniature castle she grew up playing in to a large stronghold built for protecting neighboring settlements and possibly to expand the Kingdom of Vale itself.

Personality: With an ENFJ (Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging) type personality, Marigold is a friendly people-person and a natural born leader. As a firm believer in humanity, sometimes to a fault, she is altruistic, empathetic, and charismatic. She is also humble and will never exaggerate on her skills but carries on a noble heroic personality, believing that this is how all the brave warriors acted. Along those lines, she can be a shoulder to lean on because to her, emotions are contagious and so she wants everybody around her to be happy. Pretty much the only time she's rude is when she's calling food "...Disgusting..." She is also highly dependable, refusing to let down any person with a cause she believes in but can sometimes be too selfless, burying herself entirely in said cause. On a few final notes, she is extremely bad at lying, often states the obvious, may be just a bit perverted, and is bisexual.

On account of her intellect, Marigold is smart, but more in a 'feeling' way than a 'thinking' way. This means that although being academically satisfactory, she is great at networking and forming bonds with people along with taking certain aspects from one subject and applying them to others. Her intelligence comes more from her experiences rather than information learned from a book, therefore she solves problems with intuition rather than logical thinking. As such, her grades are usually in the A-B range because she actually spends the effort to study, but she's better in things more relevant to her personal life.
(As such, edits may be made to character as she interacts with others)

She is an extremely skilled cook, able to put together a high-quality meal in a few minutes, but would usually try and make it even better if given the time. However, she may occasionally create recipes that sound and/or taste extremely disgusting.

Aura and Semblance: Aura Color: Gold
Semblance: Sunder - Marigold's semblance allows her to split off a percentage of her aura to create clones. Dust cannot be copied. Currently, clones can only hold up to 16% of her aura, and when they attack or block, they lose 1%. These clones also do not have aura shielding. They can further split themselves into 2, dividing the aura as evenly as possible while still keeping a whole aura number.

Juxtapose - Currently an undiscovered ability, Juxtapose allows Marigold to instantly switch places with a clone using 2% aura from both of them.

Combat Behavior: Marigold's combat behavior involves keeping up a good defense while pushing her area of control outward with her illusions. When engaging in combat with singular opponents, she will either focus on counter-attacks or try and get behind the enemy. She also uses her clones to create confusion amongst her enemies, but using them for such specific tasks will most likely inhibit her ability to micromanage the others, thus getting in the way of other allies fighting within the enemy.

Her actual combat style would be like the Spartans from 300, except with deadly shields instead of spears.

Alone

Although not used in battle, it should be noted that she is capable in horse-back riding.

WEAPON

Name: Agnomen

Primary Form: An Xiphos made of black metal and gold decorations.

History: Agnomen was a family heirloom passed down through generations.

Name: Vanguard

Primary Form: Shield

Functions: Vanguard is a large circular shield colored black and gold. On the area where the shield is held, there is a trigger under the index finger and a button under the thumb. When the trigger is squeezed, four long, sturdy retractable spikes will pop out of each of the seven circles located in a ring around the face of the shield. When the button is pushed, the rings will all begin rotating in order to rip whatever is impaled on them apart.

Catapult Shield Upgrade: After witnessing the use of the Beacon Cliff launch pads during initiation, Marigold has copied the design and installed one on the center circle of her shield, built to fling things away at high velocities. This can be reset by pulling a rope on Marigold's side of the shield.

History: Through years of training at Signal and gaining more experience, Marigold found that a simple sword was just not enough for her career as a huntress. Thus Vanguard was made.

Marigold also carries three smoke bombs with her, strapped around her right leg.

- Added theme music.
- Gave her smoke bombs.

- Modified how her semblance works to make things less vague and added an undiscovered ability.

Okay, I'm going to continue reviewing your other characters now...Marigold is first. Overall: I don't really see any issue with this character. She's pretty well balanced, though there are a few minor questions that I have:

Occupation:
You have down that she's a Philanthropist, but make no mention of this other than that. Perhaps you can put something in her history, indicating that she has given or worked at charities to help others?

History:
Kinda iffy on the whole Huntsman having enough wealth to buy a whole plot of land and build a castle on it, but seeing that we don't really know how much a Huntsman/Huntress makes, I'm not going to make a big deal about this and am fine with this passing.

Semblance:
Three questions here:
1. How many clones can she create? Seeing that Sun in the show has only created up to around 3 clones, I'd suggest that the numbers be kept around that amount.
2. Is there any strain to her using it for a long period of time? If she's capable of creating numerous clones, then there should be some strain to creating/maintaining the amount.
3. How long can she keep her clones in action?

That's it for me. I must say...this is one of your more straight forward characters that I've read yet. Well done.
