Swapping out Mao with my WIP character, Pyre.

WiP Characters / Pyre Persephone Delanto
« on: July 25, 2022, 07:30:55 PM »
Character

Name: Pyre Persephone Delanto

Age: 18

Species and Gender: Female, Vampire Finch Faunus

Symbol:  TBD

Occupation: First-Year Beacon Student

Physical Characteristics: Standing at an even 5', Pyre's frame is fairly thin and petite. Her skin is quite pale and is ever-so-slightly sleek due to her steadfast use of sunblock and lotion. Her hair, jet black with a tinge of waviness, contains a hint of a feather-like texture and is parted to the side of her face and comes to an end just below her chin. Her eyes are a fiery orange-red.

Pyre also has a pair of wings peppered with black and grey. They extend a tad bit past her elbows when her arms are stretched out to her sides. They are capable of flapping about but are incapable of flight or gliding.

Attire:

Main Wear When not in her Beacon uniform or other situation-specific attire, Pyre most often wears one of two outfits. Her first outfit is primarily that of a gothic dress with a design that is more on the mellow and inconspicuous side as to blend into a crowd much easier. The dress also features an open back that is just enough for her wings. Her second outfit is that of a knee-length skirt and somewhat baggie hoodie with slits on the back specifically for her wings should she feel like having them out. There is no specific color associated with these outfits as that depends entirely on her mood and circumstances.

Combat/Mission Wear Pyre's combat attire is straight forward: black combat boots with purple accent, baggy black pants, and a slightly-baggy dark-purple hoodie. Her clothing is loose and made of fire-resistant materials in case of emergencies or other intense situations. The hoodie also is able to have her wings out, but for combat missions, Pyre prefers to keep them restrained under her clothing. For longer missions, she may also don a sturdy backpack filled with extra Dust for her weapon.

History: TBD

Personality: Anyone on the outside looking in may find that Pyre is a bit of a weirdo, and she'd probably agree with them. Pyre is of few words, but not due to a dislike of talking. Rather, she instinctively and primarily showcases her thoughts and emotions with actions, gestures, and expressions; a bona fide open-book one could say. To this end, Pyre learned sign language over the years and incorporates it into her mannerisms often, to the point where one may wonder if she is impaired in some way.

Pyre isn't necessarily a kind person per se, but she is friendly and she errs on the side of not doing anything outright malicious. With her thoughts and views translating near instantly to her actions and expression with little restraint, she can be described as blunt. If she is worried about how her reaction will affect someone, she does her best to nip it at the bud and rectify the situation.

Aura and Semblance:

Pomp Purple (#86608E)

Instead of building up her muscles through exercise and training, Pyre inadvertently trained her aura to augment her base strength. Her combined strength does not exceed the base strength of her more capable peers.

To be named: Pyre's semblance ignites her aura in bright, purple flames engulfing both her and her weapon. The flames do normal fire damage. However, when doing aura damage, a fraction of the damage replenishes her own aura. This only applies to the damage done by the flames of her semblance and not any of her other attacks.

Combat Behavior:

Style As a solo fighter, Pyre's style can be flexible, her range limitation aside. She is capable of fighting head on with her mace, keeping her opponent zoned out with her flamethrower, a tricky hit-and-run style, or more likely a combination of the three.

Teamplay As a team player, Pyre can use her styles stated above to either be a frontliner, assist the frontliner, or to raid/break into her opponents' positions. Pyre has a tendency to want to do her own thing, but she tries to make sure she balances her own desires with the need of the team. For instance, even if ordered to remain in a certain role, she may break away to assist a teammate in dire need. The more significant her role is in a specific fight or situation, the higher her threshold is to break away. This does not apply to simulated fights.

Strengths Pyre's dexterity is average to slightly above average Her balance is quite good and she is able to remain on her feet and stable through intense situations. Her combined strength is also good, but not outside the realm of the natural abilities of others.

Weaknesses Pyre has no long-range capabilities so she is unable to deal with such threats. Although she strengthened her aura, her durability is suspect. As a team player, she can struggle with maintaining roles that conflict with her emotions in a given situation.

WEAPON

Name: TBD

Primary Form: A two-handed flanged mace nearly the size of Pyre. At the base is a black, rubber grip and the shaft is textured for grip.

Secondary Form: At the top of the mace is an aperture that, when opened, allows the mace to act as a flamethrower. Dust can be stored in the shaft of the weapon, or it can be directly attached to her backpack to increase its capacity.

Dust Functions: The flamethrower function of Pyre's weapon uses a mix of fire Dust and propulsion Dust. The fire Dust can be replaced with other elements, but Pyre only uses fire unless specific plans are made that involve her switching it out for something else.

This function can also double to make the mace reminiscent of a witch's broom. This alternative function has a tendency to cause a bit of collateral damage, especially when near the ground, so it can only be used in certain situations. However, the Dust mixture can be replaced with pure propulsion Dust making it significantly more safe for general use.

History: TBD

After some deliberation, I'll toss in Mao. Mischievous yet dutiful. Close-range fighter.

Avery squirmed with anxiety as the encircling Grimm brushed up against the pod, afraid that their time was limited. However, with every minute that passed by, he became more at ease. It was safer that way anyway given their attraction to negative he could. Aurum swinging around his wet boots weren’t helping in that regard, though.

Suddenly, something flicked on within the pop and a message started to come through. Unfortunately, the storm was still ongoing and the message was broken. He turned toward Dorian, unfortunately still unconscious, before turning to Topaz.

Do you think you can fix the signal?

With his spear clashing against Vermilion's weapon, hate jolted through him. Not for his opponent's but rather the situation. From the beginning, Avery knew he and Topaz were at a disadvantage, but with the sight of a spear being thrust right back at him, he felt that the battle was spiraling more into his opponents’ favor.

The attack landed on his throat and sent him flying onto his back. His weapon was no longer in his grasp as his hands were not grasping at his neck, and despite the ground being that of a more agreeable surface, Avery still managed to get the wind knocked out of him upon impact with the sand, and for at least a moment, he was subdued.

The grab to Aurelia’s face was so sudden that she couldn’t react, and by the time that she could, her head had already been slammed against the fortunately sandy ground and she was sent flying several meters away from Ceramite.

As she skid across the ground, she managed to stabilize herself, and at the end of her slide, she was in a knelt position facing toward her opponent. Aurelia’s eyes narrowed in on Ceramite. Shifting her eyes to Exitium, her eyes continued to do so as she realized the situation she was in.

Aurelia dug her toes into the sand and launched herself forward with so much force that she lost her footing. After stumbling for a few seconds, she regained herself and charged toward Ceramite, slightly off-center favoring the side nearest Exitium. With her eyes keenly dialed on Ceramite, she held her weapon tightly, ready to strike [no attack].

Avery didn't expect Vermilion to catch his fall with his weapon, though if was still comparing him to his sparring partner, maybe he should have. Though his mind caught Vermilion's counterattack in time, his body was lagging having put all of Avery's weight into his attack.

Avery took the attack to his chest. The impact of the blow was dampened by his semblance though at the cost of additional fatigue. He stumbled back a couple steps, but having caught wind of the attack beforehand, was able to recover from it quickly. Avery raised back his weapon, and as he sent it jabbing forward[1], he also re-extended the spear to its original length. At the same time, he deactivated his semblance in hopes that the sudden liberation of his hand would cause Vermilion to hesitate, even if just for a moment.

Everywhere Else / Re: An Afternoon Downtown [Closed]

Airi looked at Sovereign, then at Lyra, then back at Sovereign. Given her physical state, Airi was in no position to object."Sure, Sovereign." Turning up at the LeBlanc residence out of the blue was going to be a bit strange, but with the police set to arrive at any minute, it was a much better option than staying here. "What about you, Lyra?"

26
"You're going to need to hit way harder than that if you want to beat me."

A pump of adrenaline washed away Avery’s dazed state. The cogs of his mind quickly accelerated, and he was able to see the battle(field) with clarity once again. Since Avery didn’t have much of a chance to before, a flood of thoughts concerning his opponents burst into his head and caused the world around him to stand still for just a moment. Spear-user with semblance included, aggressive, spirited. That was all well and good, but what stood out about Vermilion the most was that he reminded Avery of one of his dueling partners: Annabelle (not pulled out of ass).

Knowing that he had to be decisive if he wanted to win against an opponent that was remotely like her, Avery rallied himself. The world around him was slowly brought back into motion, and the transformation of Vermilion’s weapon clicked slowly at first, accelerating like the clangs of a dropped metal ball. In the same window that Vermilion was transforming his weapon, Avery followed suit though it wasn’t nearly an intricate: he moved his hand up the shaft closer to the head and significantly compacted the butt of the spear.

As the transformation of Vermilion’s weapon neared its end, Avery already had an idea of what it was and what its owner planned to do with it. Avery found it odd that Vermilion would resort to a punch when 1) he had a tactical advantage with his semblance and 2) Avery had just disengaged with his partner whose main weapons were fists (at least when they fought seeing as Vivian had an SMG stashed away).

With Vermilion rearing to life, Avery did as well. He dug his left foot into the sand and pivoted hard, adjusting based on the results of his previous failed attempt, and wrapped his right hand near the base of Vermilion’s weapon as it went by. As he was turning, the spears that were behind him came into view, and while the possibility of pulling Vermilion’s weight through them was nice, Avery opted to take his opponents advice instead. Avery clicked on his semblance, specifically targeting Vermilion’s weapon making it feel significantly heavier, and pulled Vermilion’s weight forward hoping to throw him off-balance. Finally, Avery leaned forward toward his opponent’s massed, as if trying to drive a stake through his heart from the opposite end of his body, sent a heavy stab at the side of Vermillion’s ribcage [1].

Aurelia raised her weapon to block of the attack, its impact forcing her feet to dig deeper into the ground and sending a jolt of pain into her palms. Moving on its own to protect itself, her body kicked [1] at Ceramite's abdominal region in an effort to remove itself from the danger. Aurelia herself took advantage of the opportunity and sent a vertical swipe aimed at Ceramite’s dominant shoulder [2].

Even in his dazed state, Avery was still able to get a grasp of the battle, albeit faintly, and he didn't like what he saw. He and Topaz had swapped targets and now the passionate spearman was getting on Avery's case. He used his semblance to force Vermilion’s thrown spear crashing into the ground not too far ahead of him, and as Vermilion came charging in, he attempted to parry his attack. Vermilion’s charge was slow, but unfortunately Avery’s reaction time was slower. Despite successfully getting the block, it was too late, and the attack drilled into his shoulder.

Avery winced and let out a faint grunt upon impact, but instead of falling back to regroup his senses, he exhaled sharply and sent his weapon down along the shaft of Vermilion’s for a counter-hit[1].

Despite being down and in pain, Aurelia remained combat aware. Being in the situation she was in, she had no choice but to wait until Ceramite left himself vulnerable; any sooner and she'd still be at a heavy disadvantage. As Ceramite reared up to land a heavy strike, she rolled herself out of the way, scrambled back to her feet, and re-armed herself with her weapon which fortunately hadn’t landed far.

Aurelia set herself up in a defensive, reactionary stance as she waited for Ceramite’s next move.
