As the growing crowd cheered for the match to start, the unmistakable sound of the sound system clicking on interrupted them. ”Hello. Welcome back to the forty-first bi-annual Vytal Festival tournament.” The quality of the voice was terrible, and clearly just a letter that was put into a text-to-voice tool. ”Us announcers are taking an emergency lunch break, so we have left this message to play for the round we are missing. Today in the final matchup of the Huntsman bracket 1v1 we have Suhlares Star vs. Mehrleeta Yohru.” The message continued despite the tool’s terrible pronunciation of the names. ”Ah yes, Suhlares Star, the specialist who is clearly compensating for something with all that tech. I will never understand why specialists deck themselves out in tech. It is unnecessary and disrupts the flow of combat.” It was clear that Prim was the one who wrote this portion of the message. A distant voice can be heard from within the recording. ”Prim! Hurry up! I don’t wanna watch some fight between some edgy scarecrow and someone obscure specialist!” Lots of stomping can be heard from within the background.

A large holographic image of a lottery machine appears on all sides of the arena, with two spinners. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words. It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on Ice Dust Field and Lava.

The floor of the arena lowered and, in its place, arose two new floors. On Solaris’ side, what initially appears to be a snowy field contains ice dust crystals under the thin layer of snow that can freeze you in place if you don’t watch where you step. On Merletta’s side, what seemed to be the complete opposite arose. Large pools of molten lava formed sat in large cracks in the earth. Near the center of the arena, the thin layer of snow would very quickly melt, revealing the locations of the ice dust crystals.

As the spinner finished its job and faded away, the doors on each side of the arena opened to signify the start of the match.

(A coin flip has decided that Solaris will get the first post. The arena size is identical to that of the 1v1 arena in the show, however, it features scaled down biomes to fit the size. Good luck, and may the best combatant win.)

"That is terribly insulting and a bit annoying" Solaris quietly mumbled to herself as she made her way to the arena. Bringing her mind off of the slight annoyance from the fact that they didn't even bother to record their own voices Solaris reached the edge of the arena and glanced at her overdressed opponent 'well at least they were accurate about one thing'.

Her first steps onto the snow were met with the crunching and melting of snow respectively from her movements and the natural heat that was given off by her semblance. Drawing her main sword from her sheath she also activated her shield to be prepared for gunfire.

Rolling her eyes and sighing, Merletta walked out onto her side of the field. Looking around at the lava before her, she let out another sigh. "Really? This was the set up? I guess there's no turning back now. Fine." She loaded one of her Thorn pistols and switched Edge into it's Bolt Caster configuration. Stepping onto the field, she began a slow walk to her opponent, pistol ready. She began to read her opponent based on her actions.

'gun and sword, a pistol by the looks of it so I'll have the advantage of range even without including Eyes.' Solaris activated EYES to fly up and reveal all of the dust crystals, marking it on her HUD before the bird quickly flew back down and attached itself back onto Solaris' back and chest.

Now that Solaris knew where she needed to avoid she didn't hold back, digging her heel into the ground before she went off into a sprint Sol's shield activated the kinetic dust barrier as she got closer. Protecting herself while allowing her and get closer to a favoured field before she let her sword ignite in flames and went for a diagonal slash from her left side, up, before following through with a shield bash.

Seeing the sword swing, Merletta rolled under the flames before vaulting over Solaris' shield. Once she was on the other side, Merletta activated her semblance and summoned a small circle of clones around Solaris. With each clone mimicking her every move, she drew Bolt Caster and pointed it at the young Huntress, the sword cracking with electricity. "Ms. Star, I take it you thought that would have hit me. Try again." She said with a smug look on her face as she backed away, the other clones doing the same. "I'll be amazed if you can dodge this. Bolt Caster has a bit of a shocking reputation." She raised Bolt Caster up and did a small spin, launching the electricity arc in front of her, as did her clones. While waiting to see if the attack even connected, her clones disappeared and she fell to one knee, catching her breath slightly.

'so she relies on dodging, diversion, dust and trickery. Noted' Solaris thought as she saw the smoke clones appeared, turning towards where the voice was coming from. Solaris started to compress the fire that was coming from her blade as she dodged the real strike by going into the smoke clone attacks. Smiling underneath her visor as the attack that hit her dissipated into smoke and seeing the rest of the clones disappeared, gave Sol a clear target and information regarding her enemies semblance and valuable details. 'it can't do damage or make any sound, smoke based and is only useful from a visual standpoint. Easy.'

Sol covered the short distance rapidly, her sword at the ready, her shield folded to give her other hand the freedom to grip the blade. What followed was a heavy downward strike with the flames from the sword continuing to disappear as they formed on the blade, adding to the small but currently growing ball of compressed flames behind her.
