Approved Characters / Oni Shoji
« on: December 14, 2016, 01:56:16 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Oni Shoji

Age: 20, born Hitahita 5.

Species and Gender: Male Human

Symbol:  A black Oroboros covered in light grey, wispy flames

Occupation: Third year at Beacon

Appearance: Oni has straight black hair that falls just past his shoulders, with eyes that are a deep shade of brown; basically black. He stands at 170cm tall and weighs just about 80kg. His skin is tanned and his body has a bit of muscle to it. His features are feminine as opposed to being a man's man, with full lips and arched eyebrows, as well as long eyelashes.  His symbol is a tattoo on his left pec.

Oni's casual wear is a featureless black tank top, baggy black trousers, black gloves and a pair of Jika-tabi.

His combat attire is a thick grey tunic with dark, padded armour on his torso, black wristbands, dark grey baggy trousers, the same shoes as in his casual wear. He has multiple dust packs that are kept on his belt.

History: Oni was born in the slums of Mistral, to a poor beggar woman and an older sleazy father. Oni spent his childhood smothered in poverty in the ghetto, where he spent most of his time looking after his mother, who was sick due to the low hygiene in his area, and his father was usually never around as he was either at the pub or in bed, asleep. This same routine continued up until Oni was eight, when his mother's condition worsened and worsened. When she came close to passing on, Oni's father arrived back at his humble abode, and seeing how little the man cared for his wife, Oni got angered and rushed the man, with no weapon but the strategy in his head.

And while the man he had called 'father' had surprisingly never struck him before, it happened right there; the man turned with anger in his eyes and hit the boy down to the ground. Hitting his head in the fall, Oni fell unconscious, not being with his mother in her last moments, nor hearing her last words. He built up a hatred toward his father even stronger than before, and wished him to not come back every day he went out.

With nothing to do in his house anymore, Oni actually went outside for once, and ended up meeting some interesting fellows. There was a band of peculiar stage performers that were passing through town, and after talking to the boy and hearing his story they decided to take him to the leader of the group. See, these were no ordinary travelers, but a rather merry band of rather well-organised criminals; for where they were, anyway. When taken to the leader of the gang, the menacing man unlocked the boy's aura, in hopes that Oni's troubled past could fuel a Semblance that could make Oni strong enough to be the leader's apprentice., and take over the 'business' that the leader had going on.

For the next year, the group preformed shows all throughout the slums, all the while dealing in criminal affairs and training the young apprentice. At first, Oni didn't even know why he joined up, anyway. Maybe it was because he had nowhere to go back to, or because he wanted to be stronger than his father, or because he feared to deny the leader. The group mainly did acrobatics acts, with various other circus type events, so when trained to fight Oni was also trained to participate in the shows; earning spare change whenever he was tipped it: however little it may be. His father did not seem to care that he didn't come back to the house some days, though this was most likely because he didn't notice. Oni was also training with the leader, who Oni had surprisingly grown to like; he was the closest he had ever gotten to an actual father, and he definitely preferred him over his excuse for a father. Four years later, with much trial and error, Oni had finally grown strong enough to find and control his Semblance; and with that and his skill with his weapon, he was sent on his first mission in the gang.

On paper, it was certainly simple: go to a member of the opposing gangs house when he sleeps, and off him in the dead of night. The opposing gang had been disrupting Oni's gang's weapons and drugs trafficking with thier own buisness, and the leader wanted to set an example to the rival gang by offing a member, though the man wasn't known to be very high up. The man lived only with his kid, so the operation would be easy. Oni was to wear the gang uniform, which optimized stealth, the weapon he had been training with, and had to do the dirty deed himself. A small group containing Oni and two of his combat teachers.  As they made their way to the man's house in the darkness of midnight, Oni came to the realization that they were travelling scarily quickly to his own house, and when they stopped Oni realised what was happening. Oni was the first in, opening the door with a loud creak, though he knew that would not wake up his father. They made their way through the house, Oni walking in determined strides with his weapon in his hand. Despite his brisk pace walking through the house, he slowed down and with a gentle push, the door to his father's bedroom opened. Making sure that he made no noise, Oni creeped up to his father's bed, and with no hint of remorse in his eyes, he slammed  his weapon through the bed sheets and struck the man, with a satisfying noise. Oni's father let out a scream, though did not turn to see who had attacked him; though in his position, he couldn't.

Now he was an official member of the gang, and even got the gang symbol tattoo on his left pec, not questioning the gang's actions, not even if the killing of his father was planned for him, specifically; which it totally was. From now on, Oni tagged along on gang missions, all the while participating in the acrobat shows the gang used as a front. Eventually the shows had moved their way up from lower class performances in the slums, to middle-class performances, and a few years after, they moved to upper-middle-class and began to incorporate fancier techniques into the act, though this came with the drawback of being more in the spotlight. One fateful evening, one rival gang had got one member to plant some dodgy objects around the set of the show, then reported it, himself. This caused an investigation to be opened on the group.

The authorities had found suspicious things that the gang had already done, and attributed them to shakedowns and attacks, causing them to take in the gang. The leader wouldn't have it, and launched an attack on the police, causing several deaths on either side. Oni was in the background of the fight, not getting involved himself, despite his gang connections. He saw no point when he would lose to pure numbers. He spotted the leader, his father figure get captured, though the man fought back like a raging beast, causing the officers to put him down. Oni ran as fast as he could, with his weapons in hand and in full gear, to the port of the city. Seeing a boat that's cargo was to go to Vale, he snuck on, easily enough. When he made it to Vale, he knew that it would be good to establish an alibi, so he decided to take the Huntsman's exams.

He passed the combat tests easy enough, with the skills he picked up, though with no formal education, he barely passed the academic test; using what he'd picked up over the years. When he made it to Beacon academy, he was assigned to a quite unusual bunch of teammates, who he had actually grown to like. He scarcely brought up Mistral or his past, dismissing questions and queries about his early life. And whilst he had thought the first two years of school were bad enough, his team getting caught up in a friendly bout of gang warfare, he knew that third year was going to be even more...Spontaneous.

Personality: While he is normally cold to violence and death, Oni still thinks of the loss of his mother, never really getting over her passing. Since becoming a member of his team, he has opened up more, and actually began to form actual friendships and bonds, and ones that were more..legal. He never really was much of a team-player, he was one to go off on his one, only going in groups when he had to. Since he went to Beacon, that also changed, mainly with the forced team system.

Being a former member of a gang, Oni is also quite the good liar, having to keep his gang activity a secret, and keep up the act of the acrobat. And while he doesn't lie to much anymore, he knows that it's a skill of his that he can rely on. Oni likes learning about people's past, despite avoiding talking about his own, to try to get to know people better. He tries to steer people to talking about themselves, rather than himself. Being raised in the slums, he adapted quite well to normal social standards, so interacting with people isn't really a problem for him, though he is a tad quiet and wouldn't seek out a conversation with any random person.

Aura and Semblance: Oni's aura is black.

Oni has an above-average amount of aura, being trained in it by the gang leader since he was a boy, though possesses no advanced skills in aura control. His Semblance is an extremely advanced perception. The ability slows down Oni's perception of time to such a degree that it seems as if it were stopped completely, allowing him to pick out weak points in his enemies. Oni can't move in slowed time, and the ability can only be used for a short amount of time; any longer and Oni's vision begins to blur, and if used for double its intended use Oni would become temporarily blind, his vision blurs to the point of not being able to see until a good rest: five hours plus. The cooldown is on a 1:1 ratio with the ability use; the cooldown matched the use time. Since the Semblance only effects his own perception, it has no effect on others; so they do not see that time has stopped.

Combat Behavior:  Due to his particular set of skills, Oni is very much a flanker. He would strike from the sides after using his Semblance to assess the situation, and would inform his team of any weaknesses that he had found in the enemy's defenses. Oni is extremely fast and agile and uses these skills to dash around his enemies and strike when it is opportune, though while he has technique, he is lacking in physical strength compared to some other brutes you may find on the battlefield. Due to his weapon, Oni's range is bigger than melee, and uses this to his advantage, not having to dive in as close as others to do some damage. With his Semblance, Oni finds it easy to coordinate attacks and strategize, so he tries his best to relay his plans to his team, though this can be hard in the middle of the fight, especially for a flanker. He will, however, go out of his way to inform them of possible actions they can take if they are integral to winning.

WEAPON 1

Name: Patricide, name that as a reminder to Oni's past.

Primary Form: Two simple, black steel kunai, attached to Oni at the wrist by a 5 meter long rope through the pommel. The rope wraps around his wrist. He has always kept the blades incredibly sharp, and always will.

Secondary Form: The rope unwraps from his wrists, and the kunai can be used as rope darts. This can used to wrap around objects and swing on them like Tarzan, or can additionally be used to pull enemies and objects closer.

History: These were the weapons Oni was trained to use since he was a boy, though when they actually became his, and not just practice weapons, he had scarcely changed or modified them, the most being him changing rope or sharpening them to a finer point.

WEAPON 2

Primary Form: Small bullet-sized pellets that are kept in packets in Oni's belt. The packs are labelled, and there are about 10 per pack.

Dust Functions: Oni uses fire dust for small, flaming explosions, ice dust for a slippery obstacle in the battlefield, electric dust for small shocks that can stun people and kinetic dust, which when hit with, is equivalent to a medium force punch.

Approved Characters / Lynae Stagno
« on: November 30, 2016, 01:40:50 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Lynae Stagno

Age: 18, born Arashi 19

Species and Gender: Female, human

Symbol:  A turquoise bubble with a white outline

Occupation: First year --- Shade Student

Appearance: Lynae is just below average for her age. She has long light blue hair that she ties up in a ponytail. Her eyes are a pale blue and her skin is fair. Her breast size is also below average. Casually, she wears black jeans, with black boots and a blue blouse.  For combat, Lynae wears a blue blouse similar to her casual wear, but with padded light armour all round, a light blue combat skirt that fades to white at the bottom. Under her skirt she wears dark blue legging shorts, with armoured boots that almost go up to her knees. Her symbol is on her back.

History: Lynae grew up in a small town in Vacuo with her mum, dad and her three sisters. From a young age she was trained to control aura by her dad, who was a retired huntsman. Once a week, every week, she would practice aura control and would work toward effeciency with her semblance, which she discovered surprisingly late for someone with her training. When she wasn't training Lynae would often play with her friends, however few of them there were, or she would spend time inside, where she would be reading books on fighting techniques and combat; since she couldn't practice with her dad, who had a heavily injured leg.

When she was old enough she applied to join Oasis academy, where she greatly improved her fighting abilities and was able to spar with people her skill level, which she enjoyed.  At this point she was able to be trained by an active huntsman on her aura ability; more specifically, her Semblance. The teacher taught her how to incorperate her Semblance with her weapon, making her feel more confident in her abilities.

While at Oasis, Lynae seldom made friends. It wasn't that she was unfriendly or anything (infact, she was quite the bubbly girl!), she just didn't have the time. The friends that she did make she rarely got to spend time with.
After years and years at Oasis, Lynae finally transferred to Shade academy, with good grades all round, and she has one goal: to make friends. And to become a huntress, but mainly to make up for all the time she spent not with friends; with friends.

Personality: Lynae is most certainly a bubbly and energetic girl, and is always excited when it comes to learning about fighting techniques and the like. She is also quite..eager..to have fights. She most certainly likes to spread her wings when it comes to that. This is because she is constantly comparing her fighting skills to those around her, looking for ways that she can improve.

And while Lynae isn't the smartest person in the world, she certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to fighting.  She loves to live laid back, even though she isn't laid back with her constant training, and is relaxed when it comes to almost any situation. Though, if we're being fair, she hasn't really experienced much to make her not be relaxed.

Aura and Semblance: Lynae has a large amount of aura, and can control it very well, as that has been the main focus of her training for her whole life. Her training in aura also gives the her ability of detection. The colour of her aura is Turquoise.  Lynae's Semblance is bubble control, where she can create bubbles of pure aura that she can augment with dust. These bubbles do a small bit of damage, but they are more dangerous when fired in large groups.  These bubbles are roughly smaller than a closed fist and can be 'launched' at the speed of thrown baseball by themselves, though together the bubbles move much slower.

Lynae is a caster and is experienced when it comes to using and augmenting her semblance, so it is common for her to use her Semblance in conjunction with dust. She can use water dust for practical things like putting out fires, though it is mainly used to soak enemies and the environment, fire dust for a bubble that releases a fire dust that is used for the damage/distraction of a fire on the battlefield, ice dust the possibility to freeze targets - not practical if used in small quantities, kinetic dust to launch bubbles more powerfully and explosion dust for bomb-like bubbles - can't be used in large quantities for obvious reasons. Having trained and specialised in aura control and Semblance her whole life, Lynae's aura reserve is bigger than most her age. Lynae's bubbles can be created at will by themselves, though they wear her out after ten barrages of bubbles. After ten, Lynae needs to rest for a minimum of whole night to be able to use bubbles at her full capacity.

Combat Behavior:  Being a caster, Lynae likes to keep a medium range on her targets. She fights pretty much only using her Semblance, her weapon being designed to compliment it. She is pretty agile, though doesn't put it to much use, other than being able to dodge slow attacks. She also likes to show off in fights, often dragging them out just for the sake of putting on a show. Lynae doesn't have that much physical strength, so she tries to keep a distance from close-combat fighters, thus she is more comfortable fighting mid-range opponents. Her bubbles move to slow when in big groups to attack long-range enemies efficiently.

WEAPON

Name: Bolla Ballerino

Primary Form: Bolla Ballerino are large, finger less white steel gauntlets that go up to the elbow. On the palm of each one there is an opening where dust is ejected. On the wrist, there is another opening, where Lynae can reload her dust. Without using this in conjunction with her Semblance, this is a close range weapon, though it is not often used by itself. It releases dust that travels out about a foot from the palm, since the dust release mechanism isn't that focused.

Secondary Form: When not in use, The gauntlets retract up past the hand to bracelet-like object, similar to Ember Celica.

Dust Functions: Lynae uses water dust, fire dust, ice dust, kinetic dust and explosion dust for her weapon and Semblance. The only dust that Lynae would use without her Semblance would be fire dust, for its efficiency when it comes to dealing damage. The others she would only use with her Semblance. If used with her weapon the water dust shoots out a jet of water that does little damage, fire dust shoots out a wave of flames, ice dust shoots out a jet of frost that chills things to the point of freezing (including her own fingers), kinetic dust is basically a pressurized air cannon that deals little damage with ridiculous recoil and the explosion dust is obviously not practical at a range of 1 foot. All dust use is limited to Lynae, however, as Lynae has a limited supply of it and doesn't have a lot of money to spend on dust.

History: After experimenting and practicing with her Semblance in Oasis, her aura teacher suggested that she used dust with her bubble Semblance. After countless minutes, Lynae thought up the idea that her weapon should be a gauntlet. With the help of that teacher, Lynae forged her weapon in the blazing flames of Oasis' armoury.

Approved Characters / Argent Grae
« on: September 20, 2016, 03:55:11 PM »
CHARACTER

Name: Argent Grae

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Male elephant faunus

Symbol: A black, diagonal hammer with a grey circular background.

Occupation: First year Beacon student

Appearance: Argent is a tall man, no shy of 6 ft; weighing 185 lbs. He has long silver hair, with bangs that he brushes to either side of his face.He ties the rest of his hair into a ponytail. He has dark grey eyes with small pupils. Argent has tusks that come out from his cheeks, and are fairly big, for a faunus.
Most of the time, Argent is in his combat outfit, which is made of black trousers, a grey, open coat and a thin, silver shirt, with big black boots to cap it off. His symbol is on the back of his coat.

History: Argent grew up in Vale, though was originally born in Vacuo. He only lived in Vacuo for the first few years of his life, so he doesn't remember it much, but he knows from what his parents told him that he lived in a small village until he was almost three, the family had to leave, though. His parents never really told him why; they shied away from the question. Argent believe that they must have done something bad, having to leave the kingdom.
While he lived with his family, he never really spent that much time with them. Argent was always training. He thought that he couldn't get by in the world if he wasn't strong enough to destroy his enemies, though with his parents being protective and faunae, he didn't actually know who his enemies were. It was one day when Argent was training in the woods, which he probably shouldn't have, when he was attacked by a beowolf that was absolutely huge compared to the small boy. Luckily for him, the beowolf was a stray from a small pack of Grimm. A pack that was being hunted. One second later and Argent would have taken his last breath, but, his scared thoughts were interrupted by the sound of fire-dust crackling through the air and hitting its mark.
The kind huntsmen helped the boy to safety, but not before teaching him of huntsmen and huntresses and the wonders they do.
That's what he had to do, he knew it. He had to become a huntsman. He would train even harder, which, honestly was not very intense as he was so young, until he was ready to apply to one of the many combat schools, though Argent chose Signal academy.
For the next four years Argent attended Signal, excited that there were those with the same passion as him there. When he completed his four years of combat school Argent knew that he would go to Beacon, as that was where the "kind huntsman" went. He had just arrived at Beacon and was know ready for what it had in store for him.

Personality: Argent was always determined. He knew that if he were to get what he wanted he would have to work hard. Though, spending a lot of his time alone, Argent is a quiet man. Though, he opened up more when he went to Signal. He found out the hard way that there is a huge wave of discrimination toward him, as he is a faunus so he is only trusting of the humans that he knows; ready to spring into action - just in case. Argent is also protective of his friends, as few as he may of had, and acts as a shield to them, though he focuses on the problems of others instead of his own.

Aura and Semblance: Argent has a decent amount of aura, though he generally pays it no mind. One would expect a man of his fighting style to have much more aura, though he is constantly switching weapon modes so he does not rely on it as much as a close combat fighter.
He calls his semblance "Tension" and is the ability that he relies on the most. He charges an "elastic band" of aura attached to two things and when he lets go it slings one at the other. He mainly uses this on his hammer so he can hit faster, though he knows that it is possible to use it on himself but he doesn't have the time in a battle to calculate the correct position he has to be in for that to work properly.
He can only charge for a second as if he does more, he has the risk that he dislocates his arms, or the aura snaps. Too little and his swing isn't strong enough, nor fast enough.
Argent can use this on his opponent, but doesn't as it is not to the same effect as with his hammer.
For an unbiased swing (no gravity working for him) Argent would use about 5% of his aura, but for him using his aura on a bigger object it will take up 10% or higher, with a higher possibility of the aura snapping.

Combat Behavior: Argent was always taller and bigger than the other boys, mainly because of his faunus heritage, so he is more of a tank class - backing up his friends in a fight. He would generally be the first one into the fight, trying to get the enemies attention, though his bane are people too fast for him to attack; so he likes to have some backup himself.

WEAPON

Name: Silber Brecher

Primary Form: A seven foot long silver hammer that has various random patterns and designs engraved on it. It has a long cuboid for a head, with one side being able to fold out in a "partial transformation". This lets use of dust in hammer form, though it is limited as the large opening only allows close range dust-use.

Secondary Form: The hammer folds down and down into a cannon, letting the opening in the weapon shrink more and more. The handle also folds up, and splits in the middle, giving a not-so-accurate sight, though sight enough for a cannon. The weapon folds around Argent's arm, with a trigger at his fingertips, ready to be pressed.

Tertiary Form: The last form of Silber Brechen is the neutral form. In this form the cannon shifts so it is in safe mode, the trigger being gone, and the sight removed. In this form Argent can easily sling the weapon around him so it hangs at his side - easily accessible.

Dust Functions: Argent uses ice and gravity dust in both forms of his weapon, gravity for knockback and ice to make enemies immobile.

History: Argent forged his weapon when he was at Signal academy. He had a lot of help from his teachers as he was never really around weapons.  Though, Argent came up with all of the designs, as he spent his time training with logs and trees, he thought it best to make a hammer, and the cannon came with the size of the hammer. It was his proudest moment, making his weapon, and proudest it very well may stay.
