Naturally, she was teasing him again. He knew it was within her nature to gloat about these kinds of things, and he was not above being stung by hurt pride. "Alright. If I still have a jaw by then, we'll see." he said, some of the normal humor in his joke lost in his voice. He was always the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, and he could not hide his unease at the situation. Still, he stood up straight, adjusting his spine with an audible hollow crack.

"Let's get this things going before I change my mind." he said, quickly turning and moving toward the starting location marked in the arena.

All the tension that Michael was carrying melted away whenever Vivian hugged him. He had always found Vivian to bring stability into his life, which seems counter-intuitive considering her personality, but she helped him to quell the fears that build up in his head. Her boundless energy makes him feel stronger. He let go of her, feeling the breath draw out of him. "It's good to see you." he said with a small smile.

Michael towered over Vivian, adjusting the straps on his forearm once more. "This bet would be significantly more one-sided than the last bet we made. Alright, what do you have in mind?" he said, with a tone that said he was already expecting to have to do whatever it is.

It takes a certain gumption to walk into a fight you know you cannot win. Michael knew how valuable the experience would be fighting above his skill level, but he still had a heavy hesitation on fighting Vivian. First off, his family would be angry simply within the fact that he was willingly fighting her to begin with. But especially since they were in their relationship, and men should be gentlemanly. Michael valued his capacity to grow above all of this.

It didn't mean he was mentally prepared.

Michael sat in the locker room, fiddling with the straps on his weapon. He needed to practice without his armor. He needed to be able to fight when he was caught without it. But, he felt a longing for the feeling of invincibility that came with walking around in several pounds of metal. With the helmet on, they cannot see your face, after all. But, he needed to fight as just himself for once.

With everything strapped on, the only thing that needed to get together was Michael himself. The sea of thoughts swirling in his head just added to his self-doubt, but he was in far too deep to back out now. He didn't want to keep her waiting for too long.

'I will be there in a second. Sorry.'

Michael slowly walked into the arena, clad in his blue jeans and sleeveless tank top. Like a broken bone heals back stronger, he was going to come out of this better for the experience.

By the time Setsuna intervened to get everyone focused again, Teddy had already mentally checked out of the conversation. After days of non-stop overdramatic bickering happening in the team, he was prepared to sit there and let everyone spout off their opinions until they start to feel better about themselves. Splitting away from the rest of the team was a welcome reprieve from anything further with Calen. The last thing the team needed was a big blow up with the possibility of Grimm around.

The walk around town was generally unnerving. Having that much silence in a place like that will send a chill up anyone's spine. The tireless drudge of wilderness and ruined buildings does wear on a person. However, the Grimm threat still seemed to be far away. As long as they could get the tower up and running again, they would be set to get back.

Teddy took a quick peek in a half-destroyed building, checking the corners for signs of anything. "It appears there is damn well nothing here." he said, turning back to Setsuna. "Let's...I think we should check over by the river. If nothing else, I can grab some to boil for later."

5
Teddy made his way back inside, the myriad of voices coming at him at once overwhelming his sensitive hearing. He put his back in the corner, holding his weapon in his hand. Unlike his other compatriots, his fight instinct had not really kicked in yet. A few restless nights with backbreaking work in between will put any man to exhaustion, and Teddy was no better. Teddy took a few slow, deep breaths to bask in the silence around him. Or what would have been silence without Calen once again reminding the group how much better than them he was.

"Can we please just, like, relax here for a second? What exactly is going on? I don't hear a damn thing." Teddy said, all the frustration he felt tenable in his voice. He turned his focus away from Calen for his own sake, staring down Anna in what would be a futile effort to garner attention.

Plan for any possibility. That was the strategy that made Justice able to hold his own against the stronger, faster fighters. Have a strategy in mind in every eventuality. The thing he forgot to take into consideration was his own failings. His aim was off. The blade fell short of where it was meant to go, stopping as it connected with his opponent. Rather than a graceful, calculated knee strike, the displacement caused him to walk directly into the opponent’s game plan.

Three hatchet strikes to the upper legs caused Justice to fall backwards. That was not a mistake he could afford to make again. He had been getting predictable. There was a pattern to his attacks. Swipes followed by kicks to the extremities. He needed to pull out his desperation strategies.  The blade of his weapon was behind her, and there was no way he was going to get around her to get it.

Thinking quickly, Justice stood up and aimed his weapon at himself. The blade would hopefully deliver a powerful blow to the opponent’s rear flank. As for himself, attacking the limbs again had a high likelihood of failure. Instead, he opted for a full-force kick to the groin. His veneer of sportsmanship had faded, he was not going to be outwitted by this ingrate.

7
In Justice’s haste to get within close range, he did not keep himself at a distance suitable to dodge her blasts. Two air blasts to the chest pushed him a few feet back, causing him to roll backwards to get to a vertical base. Justice had to come up with some change in form. At the current moment, he had given up a significant lead.
Flipping the detached blade in his hand, he hurled it over Saffron’s head. Hoping the distraction could cause a momentary lapse in concentration, he ran forward and used his momentum to aim a knee strike just below her mandible.

8
Justice imagined the exchange would go something like that. Saffron had remained stubbornly level-headed throughout their exchanges. This was one situation where her experiences as a faunus in Atlas would be in her benefit. Even while expecting the shots, she was quick on the draw. While dodging, he could not get out of the way of the first shot. He managed the other three fairly well, only getting scraped by the second one.

Justice could not keep dodging bullets forever. He did have a lunch appointment he had to get to at some point after the fight. Closing the distance, Justice went on the attack. One vertical swipe to the chest with his blade. Following his momentum, he turned his body and sent a side kick at her abdomen. He needed to chop down her vertical base in order to gain some leeway in the fight.

Justice did his best to avoid overreaching. In this fight in particular, overstepping could cause the tide of the fight to shift dramatically. His last strike was not to the fullest extent it could have been, seeing as the previous one did not hit. The only issue was that his feet were now pointed away from Saffron. In the time it took him to get his feet in position and dodge, he was hit with two shots of ice dust.

Justice took the opportunity to breathe. Time strategizing would go in his favor, anyhow. Superior reflexes in the short term, superior intellect in the long term. "Excellent. I was wondering when you would show some fire." he said, his shit-eating smirk etched onto his face. He stopped his spinning blade, manually disconnecting the razor from the rest of the walking stick. He held the blade in his hand like a dagger, using two fingers to beckon his opponent over condescendingly.

Justice managed to shift his weight enough to barely dodge the first two strikes by retreating backwards. He would have managed the third if that damn boomerang did not manage to hit him square in the back, which sent him straight into a strike to the midsection. Reeling back, Justice gained some distance and dropped to a knee. "Fine, we shall do this your way, then." he said, pushing a few buttons on his Razor to make the blade begin to rapidly spin.

With the boring mode on his weapon active, he ran forward and unleashed a set of rapid thrusts targeting various parts of the body. He aimed for the right shoulder first, followed by the appendix, the left ventricle of the heart, the groin, and the jugular artery in that particular order. While this was a risky move, as it left him focused on one target, the amount he had been paying attention to her fighting style lead him to think she had no more hatchets in play at the current moment.

It was clear to Justice that he was getting nowhere in the current moment. Justice dodged the feint, causing him to get hit with the blast from the right as it grazed his right shoulder. Three separate strikes from him accomplished little to none. This girl has some sort of trick up her sleeve. Justice brandished his weapon, slicing at her midsection as he moved to her right side. As he got there, he planted his feet and went for an open-hand slap to the face.

Damned if he was going to go through all of this trouble and not find out something of value, entertainment or otherwise.

While Justice was keen on being able to track multiple organisms simultaneously, it was rather difficult for him to track the objects his opponent was throwing around. In this instance, Justice did remember rule #72-A of Mordekai's Guide to Common Sense: always know what direction the gun is pointing. His kick seemed to do little, his razor was off course, and two weapons were pointed at his legs. The solution seemed simple. Jump vertically, reattach the razor, come in for an overhead strike.

He somehow did not take into account that the opponent would double down on a single direction of attack. Rather than retreating or advancing, his opponent moved no ground. On the descent of his jumping arc, Justice was stuck in the midsection with one of the girl's hatchets. His momentum carried him forward, causing him to land on his left shoulder and roll forward. He quickly got back to a vertical base, but his concentration was stirred for a second.

It was clear that he needed to keep moving if he wanted to avoid the guns. He wasted no time in running to Saffron's right side, aiming a kick at the back of her head as he went.

Justice began to reaffirm most of his assumptions about Saffron as the fight began proper. She had a plethora of technical skill, familiarity with her weapon, and a sense of positioning in mind. She had some form of battle strategy in mind, although he failed to see any killer instinct within her. He looked for the machismo and confidence that usually begot a huntress, but found none of it in her. It was particularly disappointing, as that was one of the things he cherished most about the opportunity presented in the tournament.

While it made sense that she would throw him off balance, it was not the first time an opponent had tried to throw him off. It was simply a matter of adjusting your footwork, cautiously advancing, and looking for an opening to strike. She even tried to throw her boomerangs at him, how novel. He was not about to be taken out by these child's toys. He showed his agility, deftly moving around both the boomerangs and the hatchet. He stood back up, his missile soaring past Saffron as he shifted its trajectory. He had a smug grin plastered on his face, which fell with a sudden pain to the back of the neck. The little bitch caught him with the boomerangs. He will have to start taking this seriously. He sent a low kick at her knee and aimed his razor to hit her in the back.

The next few second were a blur to Michael. His head was ringing, senses still overloaded by the explosion. From there, it was hard to recall exactly what happened. He remembered the landing. He landed flat on his back, not exactly where one would want to be in the fight. The next thing he could tell was that he was on one knee with his hand on his gut. It had to be explained to him later that he took multiple armor-piercing rounds to the gut as he stood back up.

With the bullets designed to pierce his armor and his concentration shattered, there was little to stop the bullets as they hit him square in the abdomen. He had slumped forward, cradling his midsection. His shield clattered to the ground next to him, the Vaktar crest falling to the dirt beside him. Whether it was from the sharp drop in aura, the injury, or simply the pain, Michael fell forward and stayed down. The giant had been felled.

"If you insist." Justice said, watching as she took her paces out. The devious part of his mind considered striking her as she moved back, but it would be a shame to waste good etiquette. "Personally, I could not give less of a damn what these announcers say. The only insight they give is into the failings of the Atlesian educational system. What I care about is resolve. I sense a fair amount of it in you, and wish to know exactly how much you will let show. But, enough talking. Begin on my mark. 3...2...1..."

At the end of his count, Justice quickly flipped his walking stick around and fired the end into the air. The bladed missile flew up at approximately 87.4 degrees in the general direction of Saffron. While it flew, Justice charged his opponent. The relatively short distance was covered quickly and Justice sent a jumping kick at Saffron, aiming for her center of mass. His walking stick, missing its front third, was aimed at the ground to Saffron's left.
