(Gwylan has Gray's weapons (http://rwby-rpg.rwbyfanon.com/index.php/topic,25.0.html) and Anna has Mauve's weapons (http://rwby-rpg.rwbyfanon.com/index.php/topic,136.0.html). now do the thing.)

Gwylan knew the bow was going to be a problem. Sure, he'd used one a few times, but that had been years ago, and the fact he used a polearm certainly proved it wasn't his strong suit. He could hit a target like, forty percent of the time. But, in the spirit of the exercise, he was going to try. But first, introductions.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Anna, how are you today? Enjoying the new toys?", he grinned over at the girl. Those chain blades looked like they'd be good fun to use, even if he was more likely to wrap himself up in them than actually pull off something successful. Perhaps she'd have better luck than he would with them though. For all he knew, she also used chained weapons. Or she preferred a giant warhammer and was completely screwed, you never knew with this school. At least his came with some sort of glaive, which was like a trident. Kinda.

Oooooh, Anna was liking how this had turned out. Chain weapons? Heck yeah? Although, it'd take some getting used to. Her own chains didn't use the same method to deliver damage and, on top of that, had a different weight distribution. Still, third be great.
She pulsed her semblance as her opponent spoke. Right, Gwylan. "I-I'm very well, Gwylan, thank you! I-I usually use chains, too, s-so this is great! You?" As she finished speaking, she made sure her hair got in the way of her face. It was a great way to distract human opponents, to be honest.

"Bow isn't my cup of tea to be honest with ya, but hey, if there was ever a time to accidentally hit someone with it, now's it right?" Gwylan took the opportunity to test how drawing the bow was gonna go, nocking a regular arrow and pulling back. It wasn't so bad, he seemed to be able to work it well enough, though it was obvious the weapon was designed for someone with shorter arms than him.
The fact her's seemed closer to what her normal weapon is was not a good sign. Gwylan had been planning on starting out with the bow and swords, and save the glaive till later, when she'd got a strategy worked out. But it seemed he'd end up being pressured into that revelation sooner rather than later.
"Shall we begin so? Or do you need another minute or two?"

"I-I'm ready! Let's do this!" She unsheathed the blades and waited for her opponent to start. The fact that she couldn't use her semblance was kinda bad, but oh well, her other senses were rather sharp anyways. She'd have to manage.

Nodding to himself, Gwylan settled himself into a proper position, drawing back the bow and levelling the arrow at Anna. He waited a moment, then another, before sighing and releasing his arrow, then nocking and firing a second. From there, he holds position, waiting for her reprisal.
(First misses unless she moves a few feet to her right, second is more accurate: 5% aura, torso shot.)

Anna had seen the bow. She knew to expect arrows. Which is why, as soon as she heard the first one go off, she started running towards the source of the rather quiet noise, swinging the blades in front of herself in the hopes of knocking any incoming arrows out of the way.
The second one, even though Anna still flailed the rectangular blades in front of her, got her right in the torso, prompting a hiss from the pain. She kept running a bit and, when she thought she was close enough, let the chains extend to their maximum lengths, swinging the blades in opposite directions for 2 complete turns each.
(Aura: 95%) (Getting caught by a blade anywhere but in the head: 5% In the head: 8% By a chain: Possibility of getting chained really, really quickly)

Well, that had gone better than expected. One of his arrows actually hit, which was more surprising than anything Anna could have done. His old instructor would be so pleased if they ever heard. The exchanged also proved to Gwylan that he didn't get any real satisfaction from shooting people from a distance, and having a team full of duel wielders had given Gwylan more than enough practice to feel confident in a head on strike. But first.
Gwylan leaped back with as much force as he could, barely fast enough to avoid being wrapped up in those chains. He wasn't quick enough to avoid those blades though, grunting in frustration more than anything as they slashed across his torso. Avoiding the chains wasn't the sole point of the dodge though, he needed the time to transform the bow into a pair of swords, and prepare for the second swing.
Continuing back a bit, Gwylan stretched out the blade in his right hand as Anna's follow up attack came in, letting the sword get wrapped up by the chain. He brought his left arm up and under the chain to get some more strength in his throw, as he aimed to pull Anna back, off of her feet and straight into, he hoped, the side kick he fired out at her head.
(Aura: 90%)
(Throw pulls Anna off her feet, kick does 5% aura if it connects with her head, 3% otherwise)

Ah, crap. She could hear it. He'd caught at least one chain. This was bad. Well, time for improv. Right before the chain inexorably threw Anna forward, she jumped to the side, hoping the additional momentum would make her go to the opponent's side.
Coiling back the chain she still had complete control of, she grabbed hold of the blade and transformed it into its gun form, shooting a single Fire Dust shot at wherever she thought Gwylen's head ought to be. After landing, she switched it again, flicked and pulled the chain she didn't have control over towards the enemy's only leg that had contact with the floor, let a bit of chain loose on the other one and swung over her shoulder right onto what she hoped was the collapsed dude.
(Aura: 95%) (Shot: About 5% Fire damage?) (Flick & pull: Possibility of pulling Gwylen's leg out from under him) (Over shoulder swing: 8-10%?) Grab/chain thing granted by Dusty

She had a gun too?! Not fair at all, Gwylan was stuck with a bow full of explosive arrows........ oh, yeah, they could explode. That would be great to remember, if being slammed into the floor didn't knock it out of his head. The bullet definitely would have, if he hadn't adjusted himself to compensate for her jump. Thankfully, having a gunslinger on his team had left Gwylan feeling slightly better about how often bullets went past his ears.
Abandoning his right sword entirely for the moment, Gwylan rolled over his left side, wincing as he heard the chain crack of the ground right where he'd be just a second prior. These damn chains really complicated things, didn't they, Gwylan thought as he rolled back, so his back was on the chain, and he could grab that sword he'd ditched and reconnect it back horizontally with it's twin, so he could fire an explosive arrow at Anna's chest. The chain wrapped around the blade would have to restrict her movement, right?
Title: Re: Switcheroo: Gwylan/Anna
Post by: nathan67003 on June 18, 2017, 12:54:25 PM
As the swing ended with a loud crack indicating the floor had been savagely brutalized, Anna kept her ears alert, allowing her to hear Gwylan roll over. And metallic clicking. Shit. He was switching forms or something. Keeping a hold of the chain stuck under the opponent's weight, she switched the remaining blade to gun form once again and pulled the trigger - once, two, three times, firing Lightning, Fire and Ice Dust respectively. The hope was to stun, damage - as well as possibly detonate whatever manner of Dust he was holding - and finally restrain the opponent. Her aim was directed roughly at the center of Gwylan's chest, or at least that's what she thought.
(Aura: 95%, arrow damage will hit or not depending on next post by Dusty) (Each shot: 5% Aura damage, Lightning shot has a chance to shock/stun, Fire shot has a chance to prematurely detonate the arrow (depending on how they're set up), Ice shot encases a small region in ice)
Title: Re: Switcheroo: Gwylan/Anna
Post by: Dusty on June 18, 2017, 01:30:03 PM
She used that bloody gun again. Forget every nice thing Gwylan ever said about Tina and Nero, firearms were completely unfair in a fight. Especially when he was stuck with a lousy bow. Still, Gwylan at least got the arrow off before Anna electrocuted him, so that was a plus.
The arrow being shot out of the air and exploding, not so much. The combined force of the arrow was enough to send him rolling away, and probably knock Anna off of her feet, or at least a few feet back, and conveniently detonated the ice bullet too, so that wasn't a problem anymore.
Gwylan used his momentum to roll to his feet, and charged at Anna while transforming his weapon into it's third form, aiming to either sweep her feet out if she's standing, or slam the butt of the glaive into her gut and vault over her if she hadn't recoverded
(Aura: 70%)
(Explosion: 15%, combined both attack values, plus a further 1-2% if Anna falls and cracks her head as a result. Standing glaive attack: 4%. Prone attack 6%)

Post by: nathan67003 on June 19, 2017, 04:32:09 AM
Ah. She hadn't thought he'd be able to let off the arrow before the second shot. But he had, so she heard.
Her reflexions were pretty much halted at that moment, as she was blown backwards by the explosion whilst pulling the gun's trigger. But hey, the other chain was free now. She didn't waste time and reeled it right back in, whilst she herself rolled backwards. When she was back on her feet (albeit not standing upright), she shot another Ice bullet at where she heard Gwylan running, swinging the newly re-acquired chain at his chest. She then pulled the trigger a second time, this time at the man's feet to try make him stuck.
(Aura: 73%, other attacks may or may not hit next post) (Shot 1: 5%, will encase something in ice if it lands (aimed at the middle-chest area, so it could basically land anywhere on the upper body or weapon, really) Swing: 8% Shot 2: 5% if lands a direct hit + encase in ice, 0% if indirect but gets caught in the ice anyway)
Title: Re: Switcheroo: Gwylan/Anna
Post by: Dusty on June 19, 2017, 05:17:51 AM
Gwylan swung the glaive diagonally as soon as he saw Anna draw that gun on him, using the base to stop the bullet, at the cost of encasing it in ice. Following through by letting go of the glaive with his left hand and spinning it around, he caught it again and brought it up to block the chain with the centre of the weapon, taking a glancing blow on his wrist for his trouble. This fight had to be locked down into close quarters or she was just gonna keep shooting him.
Maintaining his charge while snapping the weapon to his right side, until his left foot was frozen to the ground that is, Gwylan used his momentum to push off and extend his right arm fully, aiming to stab Anna in the abdomen, and use the time she spent reacting to bring the butt of the weapon back and smash both ice chunks off of each other, freeing himself.
(Aura: 67%)
(Stab: 5% aura, aimed for the solar plexus ideally, but anywhere in that area.)

The metallic clunk indicated that Anna had shot the weapon Gwylan was holding. Damn. At least it'd restrain his movement a bit.
She also heard him step forward - and brutally stop, prompting her to try and avoid whatever was coming her way by rolling backwards. She wasn't successful, the reach of a person with a damn glaive stretching to the max being quite surprising as she was caught right between the breasts. Christ, that hurt like hell.
She turned the pistol into a blade again and swung it over her shoulder, very quickly followed by a strong slash coming from the bottom right and heading for the top left.

Gwylan put his now freed foot to good use so he could spin back on it and avoid Anna's first attack. The second was a bit harder to avoid entirely, and he hissed out his frustration at being caught by it.
Completing his spin maneuver and pressing in again, Gwylan deftly spun the weapon in his grasp so it was edge up, and performed his own diagonal attack, going from bottom left to top right, and following it up by snapping the butt of the glaive at Anna's hip. A step in to fire a kick into her knee was really a ploy to keep her close and unable to utilise her chains to full effect.

Post by: nathan67003 on June 22, 2017, 09:02:42 AM
Damn, she seemed to have missed. The chain didn't catch on the second one as much as she hoped.
Dashing back - and getting caught by Gwylan's strike on her right arm, she yanked the blade that was stuck in the ground as hard as she could while pulling the still-swinging second weapon closer. At this point, she dropped as low to the ground as possible, almost laying down. The first blade was rushing right at her opponent's back, while the second one, due to the radius of the rotation having become far smaller, was in the process of completing a full circle at the man's knees, having about as much power as it did farther away.
Oh and the glaive's butt whizzed through her hair while a kick seemingly landed on her right shoulder, but that was fine, too.

Anna did realise that the chains meant any attacks from behind were actually really easy to spot, right? It's really hard to hide something that long and in your face, especially now that Gwylan was actively aiming to counter their use.
Taking off in a sprint the same direction as Anna's second low sweep, and that wasn't gonna catch him out twice, Gwylan completely avoided the back stab, taking the time to close the gap as much as possible in his run. As soon as the swing was in range, he leaped straight at Anna, going for what was essentially a superman punch but with the glaive, straight at Anna's head, while the chain passed harmlessly underneath. He aimed to land and push off again, trying to crack the butt of the glaive off of her jaw.

Anna heard Gwylan sprint. Guess he noticed. While letting both chains continue on their merry way, she rolled to the side, avoiding whatever blew wind right next to her. She then used all her strength to swing both chains (which were already moving) in unison onto the opponent, from the top right to bottom left. She wasn't quite sure what would happen to the floor. However, right before it landed (or so she thinks, anyway), her jaw snapped to the side. Wew.

Immediately pirouetting, and really that was the only word for what Gwylan did, he managed to avoid one of Anna's chains entirely. The other, though, still slammed off of his shoulder, and who would've thought such a slender girl could hit so hard. Guess Beacon really did do wonders for people.
Completing his spin, Gwylan swung the glaive in the hand closest to Anna in a diagonal slash aimed to distract her from his real motive: drawing one of the dust arrows from the quiver on his back and throwing it hard at the ground behind her, regardless of if she moved or not. His plan was use the explosion to force her towards him, where he could smash the butt of the glaive off of her jaw and maybe knock her right out. Or off her feet, at least. A guy could hope.

Concentrating on the chaotic rush of noise that was the current (rather fun) battle, Anna noticed a sound she hadn't heard for a while now - the sound that preceded the first shots fired in the duel. As quickly as she could, she almost threw herself forward, aiming to pass right between Gwylan's legs. Something nicked her butt while she did that, though, which wasn't exactly the most pleasant thing to happen recently. As soon as the sound of footsteps got sufficiently past her to make her think "hey, I've made it through", she popped up and pulled on the chains as hard as she could, trying to 1) gather them to herself 2) topple the opponent, since both chains should now be in a semi-circle around his legs.
(Aura: 53%) (Chain pull: No intrinsic damage, though if trip is successful he might faceplate or something, dunno) (Previous attacks that didn't hit this turn (arrow 'splosion) may or may not hit next turn)

She just dived between his legs. What a cheeky idea that was. Gwylan certainly wouldn't have had the balls to try that, even if he could've fit. Props to Anna for that.
Not gonna help he though. Gwylan used his swing to spin himself around so he was facing Anna, aiming to follow through with his arrow idea. He drew his arn back and let loose, just as Anna's chains swept his feet out from under him. The arrow that was aimed behind her suddenly went straight for her chest, while Gwylan's back slammed into the ground and he threw his feet back to flip onto his feet.
(Aura=51%)
(Explosion= 13% + knock back)

Anna was glad - she had actually dived between Gwylan's legs, and lived to tell the tale. However, what she wasn't so glad about was the sound of an arrow being nocked and the bow being drawn. As soon as she felt the pull on her chains diminish, a sign that her opponent was no longer in contact with the floor, she started to let herself fall, bending her knees along the way.
This, however, didn't really help, as an arrow hit her in the face before exploding and slamming her into the ground a meter or so back. Ouch. Despite this... setback, she rapidly swung her right blade in a vertically-aligned ark, hoping to catch the guy off-guard, while gathering the other chain to herself.
(Aura: 40%) (Large overhead ark: 10% (the longer the chain, the more powerful/faster the strike))

Gwylan used his momentum to throw himself as hard as possible backwards and to the right, and he wasn't half glad he was already moving, else he would've taken more than that glancing blow to his shoulder from Anna's chain. This was quite the fun battle, even if he did miss his trident.
Pushing himself up into a crouch, Gwylan dropped to one knee and drew another arrow, aiming for the ground around Anna to compensate for his less than stellar aim now that he wasn't up in her face. While she was, hopefully, recovering from another explosion, Gwylan took off in a sprint to once again close the gap between the pair.
(Aura=45%)
(Explosion: 5-10% depending on distance)
Title: Re: Switcheroo: Gwylan/Anna
Post by: nathan67003 on July 08, 2017, 02:08:36 PM
As her opponent backed off, Anna took the opportunity to move forward and swing her other chain horizontally, aiming for what must've been the crouching guy's kidney or so. If it landed, though, she had no idea, because something, accompanied by a loud noise, had hit the chain right before it impacted Gwylan. While swinging, she simultaneously brought back the one currently embedded in the floor and turned it into a gun, firing 6 Fire shots in the man's direction after the swing was done.
(Aura: 37% (arrow hit the chain, funnily enough)) (Swing: 8-10% Shots: 6*(5%+3% Fire damage in small detonations), albeit the distance is far from optimal for the pistols)

Huh, who would have guessed that an explosive arrow could have defensive functions as well. Blasting the chain mid-swing gave Gwylan enough time to, as the kids say, do a barrel roll and dodge Anna's attack entirely. Her bullets, meanwhile, were not so easy to avoid. The first three missed completely by virtue thanks in no small part to his dodge and a fair bit of luck, and a hastily spun glaive blocked a third. The other three, though, caught him full in the torso and forced him to a deadstop. Those guns were really not fun to play with. Time to go for the ultimate disarming plan.
"Hey, Anna! Would you mind putting away them guns? It's making it really hard to go over and hit you!", Gwylan hollered over as he tried to, once again, sneakily draw an arrow.

Anna brought back the second chain as well, transforming it into gun form. Now in dual-wielding mode, she let loose, aiming based on the sounds that were coming her way. The footsteps, the subtle sound of an arrow sliding against the quiver... The very well-heard voice, which she otherwise ignored...
(Aura: 37%) (Shots: 12*(5% + 3% Fire damage). Yay for chain-fed pistols and whatever accuracy you figure is okay.)

"Anna! Come on!", Gwylan yelled as he dived to the side, all thoughts of returning fire forgotten as he took three bullets to the torso mid flight. And thank whatever gods existed that it wasn't any more, cause his aura was almost completely shredded from that. He landed on his back and let himself roll to a stop, coughing from the remnants of the smoke.
Gwylan slowly got to his feet and raised his hands over his head. "Okay, you win. Your next hit'll drop me anyway", he painfully chuckled.

...
...Huh? What?
Gwylan's words took their sweet-ass time to register in Anna's mind. When they finally did, she lowered the gunblade and holstered all her weapons, before activating her semblance for the first time in this fight - which was quite the odd feeling, to say the least.
As she approached her opponent, she extended a hand to him. This fight had been really, really cool, even thought she was probably jacked up on adrenaline the entire time as well as utterly blind. "Y'know, there were a few times where I felt like I was in a seriously bad position. That was an awesome battle."
The sudden lack of shyness could probably be blamed on the fact she'd just fought an absolutely hectic piece of show with the guy. Or maybe it was just the adrenaline.

It was almost a disappointment to have to surrender, but there was really no other choice. Those guns were too dangerous to mess around with considering that Gwylan only had the tiniest dregs of aura left. Yet, despite being shot repeatedly, it was Gwylan's pride that smarted more than anything.
"You felt in a bad position? Haha I only felt safe when I was about a foot away from you. That was one hell of a fight you gave, especially with those chains". It was really impressive actually, those things looked really awkward to work with. He'd have probably tied himself up in them if the positions had been reversed.

Anna laughed a bit at Gwylan's answer. "Well, to be honest, I was really, really lucky with the draw. My usual weapons are chains, after all. Although mine are dangerous along their entire length."
She refrained from talking about the fact she couldn't even see him the entire time. Better to nor rub too much salt in the wound and all, this was already bad enough.

"Yep, that explains it. I haven't touched a bow or a sword in years, if you couldn't tell", Gwylan hummed in response, putting his hand out towards Anna. The fact she normally used chains made him feel slightly better about himself, truth be told. Didn't mean he wouldn't have to work harder though.

Anna giggled a bit at Gwylan's affirmation, pulling him on his feet at the same time. "I haven't touched any of those, ever. Guess it would've been funny to watch if the weapons had been switched." Did everybody dabble into several things like that?

Gwylan chuckled as he let Anna pull him to his feet. She was actually a rather nice person, when she wasn't shooting him anyway. Perhaps a friendship could be brokered from this, the age old act of hitting each other.
"You'd have watched me get annoyed and try to beat you up with my bare hands. My normal weapon is a trident, all these fancy guns and transforming yokes mean nothing to me", Gwylan grinned ruefully as he lead the way out of the arena, before coming to a sudden stop. "Wait........ do.... do I have to pay Gray back for those arrows I used?"

Anna followed Gwylan out of the arena, letting her hair slip back in front of her face without noticing. She slowed to a halt when her newfound... battlemate? stopped. As he spoke, a quizzical look crept upon her features - which were, unbeknownst to her, still thoroughly hidden. "...Wait, I thought Dust costs were covered by the Academy because it serves as a practical training exercise." She did not want to pay for all those bullets she fired, either.

"Don't ask me, I've never needed to buy Dust or ammo in my life", Gwylan hummed, before shaking his head and chuckling. "If I have to, I'll see if I can shout him some take out instead. Save me some money anyway". That'd do him, right? No one had ever said no to free take out in the life. That would be some manner of sin.
"Hey, I'll pay yours too, if that's the case. Winner's prize and all that".

After thinking a bit, she asked "Really? You've never used Dust?"

Snorting loudly, Gwylan once again started to lead the two away from the arena. "Please, if suffering was as fun as that fight, it wouldn't be suffering. And nope, never used it. Never needed to. See, typically, when I'm not being shot, I don't need the aid of the magic energy crystals. I fight with manpower!", finishing his statement with an entirely humourous flex of his arm muscles.

So which take out do you have in mind?"

Anna almost reared at Gwylan's comment. "Mayhaps, yes, but have you ever had a flood of medium-sized Deathstalkers coming at you? It's way better to seal them off and go on with your day than actually grind them all to smoke. Not to mention the very real risk of being utterly overwhelmed."
Oooh, pizza. "Pizza sounds great. Don't you dare get pineapple or anchovies, though."
