Title: A Badge of Honor [BADJ Initiation]
Post by: Flooberoid on February 23, 2018, 04:20:45 PM
Compared to the lush midday green of the Emerald Forest, the forest of Forever Fall's deep red made it seem like sunset even when the sun was still high in the sky. Especially with the looming shadow of a massive airship overhead.

Among the paltry batch of second-wave initiate Beacon students aboard the airship were a variety of faces and attitudes, some more vocal than others. Just like the first wave, Beacon Academy saw potential in every one of them to shine in their own special ways. It just so happened that this year's population had so much... potential that not all of the newly-admitted initiates could fit into the traditional Emerald Forest event scheduled for this year. As such, the excess students formed a second group that would hold their initiation in Forever Fall instead, with a slightly different objective to go with the different setting. Within this group, there were students who objected to this strange and unfamiliar event, some who were disappointed not to experience the same things as students that came before them, some who simply couldn't care less, and still others who were enthusiastically in support of this, happy to be part of something new and unknown.

Jacob Stillwater was very firmly in the first category, and seemed to want everyone to know it. "What's the deal with this shit, huh?" Jacob snarled loudly. "How hard is it to throw a few more MacGuffins on the rocks for a few more students? Why they gotta go through all this extra work just to fuck with the initiation experience for a few random students??" He had been going on like this for several minutes now while the students waited for their assigned instructor to emerge, and most people seemed to be ignoring him at this point.

Mikado leaned on the wall of the airship. He wasn’t in here long, but he was already annoyed by people around him. Most of them couldn’t shut up and just kept on complaining about the initiation, about how unfair it was that we get the 'special treatment'.
His thoughts than focused on Kiro again. The small, rabbit-sized dragon climed from his right shoulder to his left, than backt to the right, befor coming to a rest on his head. Kiro was the center of attention the second he entered the airship. Mikado could hear them talk about him.
At least no one asked the 'can I pet him' question He thought. As if the previous complainant never happend, the next one started, having the same argument as the last one, or the one before.

Billy kept to herself as best she could as she was stapped into the ship. From the outside, she had her resting bitch face on. On the inside, she felt so small compared to all the rest of the 'professionally trained' huntsmen in training. Then again she was trained by a huntsman but she doesn't think it was nearly as long as they were trained. She tried to shake these thoughts from her head and looked for a window so she can get a look at the beautiful trees. As she did so, her eyes can upon a cute black lizard. She hadn't seen one of those things since the desert. Billy unstrapped herself from the airship and walked curiously closer to Mikado to examine the little guy. Upon closer examination, it had wings?
It was all too soon before Billy found herself inches away from the lizard and Mikado staring straight into the 'lizard's eyes, resting bitch face still present.

Serin was extremely excited to finally be leaving behind his longtime home of Atlas for Beacon, even if he didn't get into the normal initiation he figured as long as he got into  a initiation he was alright. After getting on the ship he spent a good amount of time gazing out the window in wonder, soaking in the radiant reds of the Forever Forest, a completely different palate from the white and grey of his old school. At first lots of other students also had there faces plastered against the windows looking down on the forest but over time they petered off until Serin was the last one still gazing outside. Everyone else was talking about the initiation or crowding around something that Serin couldn't quite make out from the crowd of people surrounding it. This left him with really one option left, he had to investigate this commotion.

The crowd surrounding the spectacle was thick and he had to push his way forward but the reward at the end was substantial, a tiny dragon perched upon on someone's head! His mind went wild at the sight of this miniaturized beast perched on top of this kids shoulder, completely disregarding what appeared to be annoyance on his face. Serin leaned in and reached out his towards the dragon before quickly retracting his hand.

"Hey, so, uh, thats a pretty neat dragon. Would it be alright I pet him? I can use my metal arm - " He said lifting up his right arm and allowing his sleeve to fall down a bit leaving his a small amount of his white prothetic, " - so he can't hurt me if he breathes fire or something."

Mikado sighted inwardly at the question.
"He won't attack you unless I tell him to. he said, without turning to look at him, or anyone else surrounding him. The question the boy asked didn’t go unheard, and in a matter of a few seconds, everyone came a step closer. With an almost unnoticeable signal, Kiro jumed from his head, starting flying and staying in the air a few inches over Mikado's head. One of the persons surrounding him gasped at the sight, probably surprised by the fact that the dragon could actually fly. Already bored enough and also having nothing better to do, he decided to take a closer look at the skills of everyone.
"If you catch him, you can pet him" he said. He than looked up to Kiro "Weich aus" he said, which was the comand for him to dodge whatever comes. The look on Mikaod's face also signaled the dragon that he shouldn’t make it to hard for the others, or the airship would probably go up in flames.
As the words left Mikado's mouth, Kiro was already flying through the rather big room of the airship, jumping from wall to wall or crawling on the celling

Jacob saw the strange dragon fly out of the crowd forming near the opposite side of the ship. While he wanted to get a closer look before, the crowd of onlookers seemed really annoying, especially for the creature's presumed owner. However, with it separated from the group, Jacob wanted to make it known that this was his chance and anyone who got in the way might very well get hurt. He lifted Journeyman, making a wall as he reached out and blocked a couple of students who had come running. With a smash of the club, he knocked a ventilation unit off the wall of the airship which fell down to block the dragon's escape, creating a loud crash in the process. "Gotcha now!" he shouted with a grin, leaping over the unit in an attempt to touch the dragon.

Even though the small dragon saw the ventilation come down, he didn’t stop. He jumped on the side which faced him and used the momentum to bounce right of it again. Mikado and Kiro used to train a lot with jumping from wall to wall or using their momentum for their advantage, so non of them would have any problems to use the falling ventilation for their advantage.
Kiro klapped his wings in and bounced right through the boys legs dodging him in the process. But it didn’t stop there. A wolf faunus girl with black hair landed just a few inches infront of Kiro. The black dragon immediately unfolded his wings and flew up in a straight line, dodging by a hair.
Now in the air, Kiro throw a short glimpse at Mikado which emotionless pointed to his head. With angled winges, Kiro dashed towards the boy with the prosthetic arm. Just before he would hit him he rose higher again, and to the boy's surprise, landed on his head. Of course, that didn’t go unnoticed by literally everyone in the room, which now all came running towards to poor boy

"The hell?!" Jacob exclaimed as he rolled to avoid smashing face-first into the ground. "Little guy's faster than I thought." He scratched his head and sighed. "Ah well. Guess I'd better do something about this before the professor shows up." In a single fluid motion, Jacob swung his club around to meet his shoulder as he crouched down to the broken ventilation unit. When he placed his other hand on it, the unit began glowing a faint blue and rose up on its own to reconnect with the wall.

Billy stayed standing uncomfortably close to Mikado for most of the events that unfolded. She eventually realized how close she was to him and took a step back when he all most hit her, as he rose his hand up to touch his head. Her eyes widened as she watched the boy manipulate the people into chasing the dragon. He even caused the indirect destruction of the airship... that was easily fixed somehow? Semblances man. She was going to help the poor, metal-armed guy in a moment, but she needed to ask something first.

"How in Remnant, did you manage to get a pet dragon?" she asked Mikado.

Serin carefully analyzed the movement of the dragon, watching as it flew around the room and dodged all the obstacles that it was presented, even a vent falling front of it didn't so much as disturb it. After finally deciding on a plan of action he prepared to move just as the dragon dived towards him, in response he raised his arms to cover his face but much to his surprise the dragon landed on his head! At first, he was ecstatic! The dragon had come to him! But he quickly noticed that everyone had now changed their attention to him and began to swarm in his direction.

Thinking quickly Serin backed up to a wall of the ship and summoned four decoys in front of him. Switching from control of his body to all four decoys he had them raise their arms into defensive postures along with extending his arm blade before having them yell a now massively amplified

 "STOP"

The students in the front halted covering their ears causing all the students behind them to crash into each other ending up as a small pile of bodies on the floor. Satisfied with this result Serin switched back to his body and raised his arm to pet the dragon.

"Now that wasn't too hard was it." He said turning to the dragons owner.

"Looks like I caught him, well caught is too strong a word but whatever, even if it did cause a mess on the ship..." He said looking around at just the students getting off the ground and attempting to find the vent that was knocked off.

"Oh no! What are the Professors going to say when they see this!?" He said with a rising panic, first impressions where everything and this was not making for a great one.

"Wait, what happened to the vent that was knocked off? It looks fine now."

"How in Remnant, did you manage to get a pet dragon?" Mikado looked at his right to see a girl with black hair. He noticed her sneaking toward him earlier, but didn’t paid her any attention. "Semblance" he answered without taking his eyes of the boy, which now caused the crowd to pile into each other.
It wasn’t long after, that said boy turned towards him. "Looks like I caught him, well caught is too strong a word but whatever, even if it did cause a mess on the ship..."
Mikado didn't reply and silently put Kiro into his arms again. Now holding the dragon he followed the others gazeses to where the broken vent was supposed to lay, only to see it fixed up on the wall again.

Jacob stood up and smirked at the attention his semblance had garnered him, satisfied that not all eyes were on the aura dragon anymore. "What, you didn't expect me to just leave it like that, did you?"

At that moment, Crystal burst into the room, fuming with anger even she struggled to contain. "Honestly, I take twenty minutes to get my documents in order before the initiation starts and already they start with the property damage! Who is responsible?" Her keen eyes scanned the environment but saw no disturbance in the room itself. All she could do was pick on the one student who was standing away from the rest. She narrowed her eyes at Jacob. "You. I know you had something to do with that crashing sound. What did you do?"
"I don't know what you mean, ma'am. Nothing seems amiss to me!" Jacob spoke with confidence that only frustrated Crystal further.
However, with no proof of his wrongdoing, she had no choice but to relent. Lamely, she replied, "...Just behave yourself. That goes for all of you!"

Crystal sighed as she regained her composure, pushing a stray hair behind her ear and adjusting her glasses neatly. "I suppose I may as well get on with the event. We have much to cover, so you had best all get comfortable." Her speech was dignified but forced, as if she was holding back a deeper sigh. "The task at hand is rather simple. Achieving this task, as well as what it will mean for your future at this academy, is less so. You will all be dropped into the forest of Forever Fall and asked to locate one of several items littered throughout the forest. These objects could be anywhere, but you have a couple of hints to get you started. The first is that the objects will not be scattered randomly amongst the branches, or merely on the ground somewhere. The locations in which the academy has hidden the objects all have some significance, like a hidden cave for example. The second hint is that the objects in question emit a dim green glow that contrasts with the red of the forest. If you do not see this glow, you are looking in the wrong place.

"You may notice that there are only half as many artifacts in the forest as there are students in your group. This is by design, not by mistake. No student will be permitted to return their artifact until they find themselves a partner. How you wish to partner up is entirely up to you. However, bear in mind that just as the artifacts themselves are limited, so too are prospective partners. It is recommended that you each partner up sooner rather than later to avoid wandering the forest alone. Groups of more than two will not be accepted; at the moment of mission completion, there must be one artifact for every pair of students."

Crystal took a short pause to let the rules sink in before getting to the part that she suspected would cause a stir. "As soon as I give the signal, the doors of this airship will open and you are free to jump or to stay aboard a while longer. However, ten minutes after the doors open, they will close again. Any students left on board at the moment the doors close will forfeit their spot at Beacon Academy this year. Should this rule leave an odd number of students in the field, you will be notified and one student will be allowed to return their artifact solo, on a first-come first-serve basis.

"Your landing strategy is up to you, but do try to avoid sustaining any major injuries. Any student who is incapacitated during the event will also forfeit their position. Finally, once the doors close, the airship will move to its final position. Until all of the artifacts have been returned, the airship will hover over the clearing to which you are to bring your artifacts. Use it as guidance."

While most rookie teachers would be afraid they missed something at this point, Crystal cracked a smug smile in satisfaction, knowing she couldn't have forgotten anything important. Just as a formality, though, she still had to ask, "Any questions?"

Billy noted a few things as the professor went through what Billy could only assume was the usual speech. First thing was the green glow the artifacts were going to give off. Then the partner part. Right as she was scanning the room for a partner, the professor mentioned jumping? Surly Billy heard her wrong. But then the professor said landing strategy.

On the outside, one of Billy's eyebrows raised. On the inside, she was full panic mode. How the hell was she suppose to get from the sky to the ground without using up all her aura to keep her from dying. She quickly turned to the window and took a few breaths to calm herself down. Then judged how high they were above the trees.

"Maybe I can use my rope?" she mumbled to herself in thought.

Serins eyes went wide when the professor burst through the door and began yelling into the cabin, he hadn't even gone one day yet! He didn't want to get a mark on his record, and he especially didn't want to get kicked out! His mind started to race through the different possibilities when she decided not to punish anyone since the evidence somehow managed to disappear. Instead she began explaing what was going to happen so it time for Serin intensely listen.

"Alright so green glow, should be easy enough to find in this forest, but the landing is gonna be interesting...." He quietly muttered to himself, he had a something resembling a landing tragedy but in the flat  tundra of Atlas he only manage to practice it off the odd decorative tree, never from this high up. Hopefully it would still work at this altitude without destroying his aura. And then there was the problem of finding a partner, but Serin figured that would be easy enough if he managed the first part. With that thought Serin turned back to the boy with the dragon.

"Im Serin." He said extending his hand,"Just out of curiosity how do you plan on landing? Ive never jumped from this hieght and I gotta figure out if its just gonna be the same thing Im used to but faster."

Mikados expression didn't change the slightest when the professor started to explain the rules, but when the word 'team' was dropped in the room, you could have probably heared him sigh.
Teams.... Why is this even needed? A Lot of huntsmen go off by there own after they finished their training anyway.... He thought to himself.

The jumping part wouldn’t be to much of a problem. He wished he could just use Kiro, but every Semblance has a limited, in this case, his limit includes not being able to ride or fly on his dragon, when it's in his 'grown' form.

The second the professor ended, the boy besides him reached out his hand to introduce himself. Without reciprocating the handshake, Mikado turned to one of the airship doors. "Mikado" he replied, but the boy's question went unanswered. Kiro, now on Mikaod's shoulders again, turned his head to Serin, staring at him vacuously

Jacob made his way over to the side of the ship where the dragon kid was and overheard their conversation. "What, don't have a plan? That's alright, I'll tell you mine." He leaned in closer to Serin and spoke in a low voice. "I plan to wing it." He laughed and once again stood up straight. "Nah, but seriously, you'll be fine. This jump is just Beacon's way of showing us how tough we really are."

Crystal moved toward a panel on the wall and pulled out her scroll, accessing an application that allowed her to unlock it. While the academy used to use simple keys for this, they recently adopted Atlas tech to increase security. After all, this was a school where anyone might be able to pick locks or create a key out of aura. Crystal input the temporary PIN the academy had given her, and the panel slid open revealing several controls. With the flick of a switch, the huge doors on either side of the airship opened up, giving everyone a clear view of the forest below them. "Your ten minutes starts now. Good luck."

The herd of students on the airship thinned significantly as most of the initiates leapt out the doors, making the jump before they could psyche themselves out of it. Jacob, on the other hand, made a show of sitting down and leaning against the wall, even yawning for effect. He set a timer on his scroll for five minutes and sat back to relax.

Billy, who was standing way too close to the window on the door, was quietly startled by the door suddenly opening in front of her. She tried to take a few steps back from the opening but with so many people heading to the doors to make their jumps, she was pushed to the front of the line. She looked out through the rushing winds and into the crimson forest they were flying over. From the other doors, the other kids made their jumps. Billy noticed one of them shooting their weapon into the forest and it slowing their fall, thus giving her some ideas. She kept one hand on her hat, and the other on her gun as she took one last breath as the people behind her started to complain that she was blocking the door. With a "Ye-haw!" That slowly turned into a scream, she jumped.

She fell through the air, scared out of her mind. The silver fox tailed girl needed to find a way to slow down before she could use her rope safely. She moved her hat to under her arm and loaded a fire dust cartridge into her rifle. With clumsy maneuvering she aimed her rifle at the patch of dirt she was heading towards and fired. The combustion from the resulting explosion under her slowed her fall just enough for her to use her rope semblance to catch a branch midway down a tree.

Billy cursed herself for not practicing her semblance more as she felt it jerk her arm, shoulder, and stomach to a stop midway to the ground. She got a look down the eight or so empty feet to the ground for about three seconds before she got the courage to drop the rest of the way down. She slipped as she landed and slid on to her butt, but that was enough for her smile wide and celebrate a little that she survived.

Mikado watched how about 70% of the students jumped off the second the doors opend. He got a better and wider few of the forest looking out the doors and his eyes scanned the area as much as possible. The words of the professor still rang in his head "The locations in which the academy has hidden the objects all have some significance, like a hidden cave for example.". Following said words he looked for anything out of place. Time went by and a few more students decided to jump while others stayed on the airship for a little while longer. Mikados eyes lit up when he saw something. He could be wrong but one of the trees down there was way taller than the others. It was worth a try.

Mikado stood at the edge of the Airship, before taking a simple jump forward. Kiro jumped of his shoulder to fly on his own while Mikado start heading down. Mikados took out a ice-dust crystal from his pockets and threw it up. The dragon easily caught up to it and swallowed. Jup, swallowed.
With angeld wings, Kiro headed down to catch up to mikado. They shared a blank stare before Kiro began breathing ice into the forest. It didn’t took long for him to make an slide out of ice, on which Mikado had no problems to slide down.

Now arrived at the bottom of the forest, Mikado started to take a look around. The Dragon landed next to him, but something in his appearance changed. The cute and small rabbit-sized dragon stood there now with a size more similar to the on of a horse or even a bit higher than one. Kiro followed Mikado, his tail whipped from one side to the other, and he scanned the area with his eyes. Just before he kept on following Mikado he looked up to the airship for a last time.

"No it's not that I don't a have plan just-" Before he could finish Serin was cut off by the boy who continued to talk over him. So patiently waited for him to finish before Serin tried to respond and was once again cut off by the doors along the side of the ship opening up. Serin held back from jumping in the tail end of the crowd and it was the only reason that he noticed the boy who cut him off sitting back and very dramatically yawning. Serin stood in the doorway about to jump but after some short deliberating he decided it was important that no one was left behind.

Walking over to the boy he said, "Why aren't you jumping? There's not a ton of time and I doubt you wanna be dragged back to Beacon and sent home unless you do for some reason, but why bother coming along at all then?" He began trailing off towards the end of the sentence but he kept his gaze focused on the boy.

"Come on lets go." He said extending his arm towards him, he figured that maybe the boy just talked a big game but was scared of jumping? Serin knew he was certainly a little on edge about the whole ordeal.

"I ain't gettin' dragged back. That's what the timer's for." Jacob held up his scroll- 30 seconds to go. "Think of it this way: The airship is circling the forest right now, yeah? And all we know about these artifacts is that they're somewhere in that vast sea of trees. If I jump with the rest of the pack, I'm gonna end up fighting over what few artifacts there are in that small area everyone's landin' in." As the timer expired, Jacob looked at Serin's outstretched arm and grabbed him by the wrist, pulling himself up in the process before continuing to talk. "But if I- and by that I mean my partner and I- jump now we'll have a whole big area to search all to ourselves."

In a couple of quick strides, Jacob crossed over to stand at the precipice, turning around to face inward. "You comin' buddy? Wouldn't wanna get 'dragged back to Beacon,' would ya?" He laughed and stretched his arms out, Journeyman in his right hand, allowing himself to fall backwards out of the airship.

...If only he was really as confident in this landing strategy as he seemed. Considering his rather brutish style, Jacob didn't have a whole lot to work with. In the few minutes he had to prepare, the best he could come up with was this. Aiming for the tallest tree he could see, Jacob readied his club. At just the right moment, he swung Journeyman as hard as he could, smashing a branch out of the tree. Using his semblance, he slowed the branch on its way down and caught up to it, grabbing on as it accelerated back upwards. Finally, when his vertical speed was zeroed (pulling his legs in to avoid hitting the ground), he let go and fell down as the tree branch soared back up into place. "Damn that was rough..." he muttered to himself. "It's a miracle that shit worked at all, but man... I'm gonna be sore tomorrow."

After Billy did her little celebratory bougie, there was a snap from a tree fallen tree branch. Billy quickly stood up, replaced her hat on to her head, and pulled her weapon out toward the snapping sound. Fortunately for her, it was only a squirrel running past. 'But what was it running from?' she thought to herself. Remembering that she had switched her bullets for the fire dust ammo, she quickly replaced the fire ammo with the normal bullets and popped out the fire dust cartridge from her gun. Then she cautiously made her way towards where the squirrel was coming from. Gun out. Finger itching for the trigger. As she drew closer, she felt a chill in the air, and noted a large tree she was heading towards. The bark on the branches was black so if there were grim it would be a bit hard to tell apart from the branches. She did see a creature, no, a BLACK horse sized dragon. She took aim at it thinking it was a grim until she saw the same kid as before standing there.

"He yours?" She asked in her southern Vaccuo drawl, as she slowly lowered her rifle, and nodded to the dragon.

Mikado continued to explore the area around the large tree. Just as he pushed a nearby bush aside, Kiro's head shot up. Mikado stopped and eyed in the direction Kiro turned. The quiet footsteps became louder with every step, and Mikdo reached to his weapon.
A black haired girl appeared behind a tree, rifle raised next to her face as she stared at the two. Mikado scrutinized the girl from head to toe. Wasn’t she the one crepping at him in the airship? Mikaod sighned inwardly.
"You already saw him on the airship, didn’t you?" he said. Kiro approached  the girl slowly, taking a look at her, without making any too sudden moves. After he was done, he returned to Mikado.
A few second went by in which non if them either spoke or moved.
'Let's just get it over with' he thought to himself as he took a step closer to the girl. "I'm Mikado. 'You already have a partner?" he than asked her. However, before she could answer, Kiro started growling. The black dragon lowered his head, unfolding his wings to the maximum size. His tail wildly whipped from one side to the other, and his complete focus was on the trees infront of him. Mikado turned away from the girl and followed Kiro's gaze. The dark wood of the tress made a good hiding spot for grim, and they were still in a forest filled with them. He shouldn’t let his gard down

"No I don't want to go back to Be-" Serin once again found himself cut off as the boy jumped out the ship, quickly rushing over to the door he watched as the boy quickly dropped down and caught himself on a branch. Looking out the door he found it to be a little more intimidating then he thought and began having second thoughts about using his normal strategy.

"Maybe I should just try to catch myself on a tree or something, if I use my right arm I won't have an issue with splinters...." He thought outloud, deciding that this was his best course of action he nervous jumped out and aimed himself towards the nearest tree. Once he got close to the tree he reached out with his prosthetic arm and grabbed it tight. After descending a small amount of the way down the tree he found that he was not slowing down nearly fast enough to avoid painlessly hitting the ground. Just as he was about to extend his arm blade to try to further brake, his luck ran out and he slammed into a branch which pushed him a small distance away from the trunk. He didn't get a chance to come up with another strategy before he hit another branch, and another, and another, on his painful journey down the tree. After what felt like years Serin finally hit the ground face first, taking in a mouthful of dirt.

He laid there for a minute trying to decide if he died or not as it certainly felt like he did. With a groan, Serin flipped over and sat up checking himself for any serious injuries. Luckily by the time he started hitting branches he was going slow enough to not do any serious lasting damage outside of bruises and scraps, at this realization he breathed a sigh of relief. He noticed to his side that he had landed not too far away from the other boy who likely saw the whole botched landing.

After a couple of seconds, Serin raised his hands creating jazz hands and meekly said "Ta-da"

Jacob laughed. "Damn, at least somebody got it worse than I did!" Still chuckling, Jacob made his way over to the boy who had just fallen from the sky and extended a hand to help him. "Look on the bright side. You're alive, you've got a partner, and you've got your very own neck of the woods to explore. If you ask me, it was well worth the trouble!"

Billy nodded as she put her weapon in a more relaxed position, mainly not aimed at the boy. "I don't have a partner yet." Billy was startled by Mikado's dragon suddenly turned to the trees and becoming defensive. "Looks like we are about to become partners now." She said as she aimed her weapon at the same trees that the now horse sized dragon was growling at.

A few seconds of silence went by till a black creature bursted through the tress with a lound roar.
"An Ursa!" Mikado hissed and took out his bō staff, extending the blade. 'There is only one, so we sould be able to take him out easily'
The Ursa started to run to them, but both students dodged with a simple jump or roll to the side. The Ursa turned to them, his back now facing Kiro which immediately took advantage of this situation. A jump on its back and a bite in its shoulder was all it took for the Ursa to shift his focus on Kiro. the both black creatures rolled around on the ground, until Kiro delivered an ice blow to the Ursas face. Mikado stood a few meters away from them. It probably was the best not to come to colse to them when theire fighting like this.
Another roar, together with a second Ursa appeared, most likley because it heared them fighting or felt the intensity.
With a quick gesture of the hand Mikado turned to the girl "That one's yours"

Serin accepted the boy's hand and grabbed it before pulling himself up onto his feet, once he got up he checked himself over and felt relieved to see himself unharmed, even if his aura did take a beating. The worst part being his clothes were now covered in dirt and leaves which would annoy him to no end.
"Fair enough I suppose, he said in response.
" If we're going to be partners I'm going to need to know your name. Im Serin, nice to meet ya" He said before looking around, they had to find an artifact somehow and bring it back, each one presented its own challenges but one thing at a time. On the way down he didn't get the chance to scan the surrounding area so he had no clue of any interesting locations nearby, before jumping he did notice some ruins which should be nearby. The question being in what direction, with the tall trees blocking off his view of the landscape he had a tough time finding landmarks as to orientate himself.
"Ya know, we don't really have trees in Atlas. How do people know where they're going without seeing the landscape?"He said to his partner hoping he knew which way to go.

"I'm Jacob. Follow me and we'll be done in no time." He smiled confidently, despite having no idea what to do next. The dense red canopy had prevented him from noticing anything particularly interesting from the air, and of course the trees blocked his vision on the ground. It was as Serin had said; there really was no way to know exactly where they should be going. Regardless, Jacob picked a direction and pointed that way. "Well, let's get on the move! There used to be some train tracks that ran in and out of caves in this forest. If we can pick up the trail, finding something interesting should be a cinch."

Billy dodged as the first Ursa attacked by ducking and rolling away from Mikado.  She was very grateful for Mikado's dragon attacking. The second Ursa joined the fight not too far from the first and had its sights set for Billy. Mikado didn't even need to tell her which one to go for, but she responded anyway with a tip of her hat.

Having previous knowledge that Ursas like to charge, Billy quickly switched her to her ice dust ammunition. She waited for just a moment for the Ursa to start to run, then quickly fired off 4 rounds into its front right side. Most of the shots hit the Ursa's arm, while the other hit it in the shoulder. The ice traveled up its bear arm, and down from it's paw to the ground. The Ursa roared in frustration as it froze to the ground.

Mikado watched as the girl shot at the Urse "So, what's your name?" he asked with a calm voice. His attantion shiftet to Kiro who nudge him in the side. Mikado took a quick glance back, seeing the Ursa on the ground fading into mid air.
Ursas normaly aren't to hard to fight against. As long as they don't come across a Ground Dweller, (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ec/0b/60/ec0b60de7c286150125c7490d6fd41ca.jpg)
or a Komodusk Alpha (https://img00.deviantart.net/fe64/i/2016/336/2/7/commission__batomys2731_by_lightning_in_my_hand-daqdnwf.png) they should be fine.
Mikado gave Kiro a quick pet on the head befor turning his attantion to the girl again. At least she looks like she could fight, so it propably wasn't a waste of time to ask her to be his teammate. The black dragon raised his head to check the area befor sitting down next to his owner. It didn't look like the fight is going to take long, and they still had time, or at least that is what he thinks. The professor didn't told them a specific time, in which they have to return the artifact, but he guessed that they have at least time till sundown.

"Alright, long as we find an artifact I'm down." Serin walked down the direction Jacob pointed out, his mind was focused solely on the mission ahead but that didn't mean he couldn't talk. "So, uh, Jacob..." His voice drifted off thinking of a topic of conversation, "..I guess we're going to be part of a team together now huh. That's pretty cool, it always seemed like being in a team with other people would be fun but I got, to be honest, I don't have a ton of practice in team combat." He said rambling on. For now the forest seemed peaceful and at first, Serin allowed himself to fall into the trap that the forest was safe, but if he was paying closer attention he might have noticed the shadow that was lurking hidden in the thick canopy of trees and brush.

((DEX, just a heads-up that the Grimm you mentioned don't exist in this universe. There are some fanon Grimm on the board, but anything not listed in The Grimm Catalog (http://rwby-rpg.rwbyfanon.com/index.php?topic=497.0) is off-limits. No need to change your post, I'll just treat it as Mikado thinking about fictional beasts he's heard of, like a real-world soldier joking about dragons or something.))

"Frankly, I don't know a whole lot about team combat either," Jacob mused. "But I figure it's not worth thinking too hard about until we meet the rest of our team, y'know?" It wasn't long before the pair of students could see the first signs of a railroad track ahead. As they approached, their unseen stalker shifted into position, waiting for the two to step into the open.

Billy quickly switched from her ice dust ammunition to her normal bullets. Such speed came with habit. The Ursa roared one final roar as Billy then finished off the half-frozen Ursa with a shot to the head through the open mouth.

She smiled proudly and her silver fox tail slowly swished side to side happily. She turned to face Mikado, holding her gun over her shoulder as if she was going to do a trick shot. back toward the slowly dissipating Ursa.

"The name's Billy. Billy Bone. Nice to meet you, Mikado." She said as she approached for a handshake. "Do you have a hunch on where to find one of them, glowing artifacts?"

"The professor said that they are in a place with some kind of significance, Let’s keep looking around the tree for now" Mikado said as he started to walk around the tree. If there really was an artifact here, it would probably be hidden in some kind of hole in the tree or something. He just hoped that the artifact won’t be somewhere on the tree. The branches were really high and he didn't felt like climbing. Mikado stopped and turned to Kiro, which also stopped moving the exact same second. "Kiro, check the tree higher up for anything"
The dragon let out a roar, swung his wings and took of to the sky.

(OOC: Sorry about the delay, the semester finished up and I got super busy, back to the normal speed now)

"Yeah I get that, can't really start thinking about it till we know who the other people are as well I guess. " Serin stated. After a short, while more they reached the train tracks that seemed to span in either direction, looking to the left the tracks looked normal and usable, but a quick glance to the right showed a different story. The rails were still usable but more overgrown and a thicker canopy of trees blocked most of the light making that path alot darker.

"Guess we have to down the dark-" His sentence as cut off as the previously unseen shadow jumped out of the bushes and revealed itself to be a somewhat decent sized Boarbatusk. It charged towards Serin and gave him barely enough time to jump to the side and open up his arm blade.

"Hey I know what this one is! Chances are there are a couple more around so be wary!" He said notching an arrow and sending it flying toward the Grimm.
