Title: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]
Post by: Viventium Umbra on September 13, 2016, 09:08:09 PM
Enz stepped out of his airship onto a huge, beachfront area of damp sand. This intertidal zone was only a few hours from being submerged in water, but he didn't plan to be outside when that happened. Enz pulled up a set of coordinates on his left eye and walked a good thirty paces northwest before kneeling down and brushing an inch or so of sand to the side, revealing a portion of what seemed to be a metal panel. Good, it seems I am in the right place, Enz thought as he stood up again and looked around for any sign of another transport.

As Enz touched the hatch, a beep was heard along with a hissing sound, and the doors of the hatch automatically opened as the sand fell aside. Inside, there were about 6 meters of ladder going down, the top 3 being thick concrete and metal plating. Right then, an airship arrived, sharply turning once in the air before landing. Stella exited and nodded at Enz. "Seems you've already opened it. Excellent."

"So it seems," Enz said and then motioned for Stella to lead. "By the way, is there a system in place that would allow the door to open during high tide without flooding the whole bunker?" he then asked.

"Yes there is," Stella said before entering the bunker.

"Good," Enz said and then descended into the bunker after Stella.

After climbing down the ladder, they emerged into a circular room about 50 feet in diameter and 7 feet high, a spiral staircase going down on one side. "So here we are." Stella said. "Oh, and all the entrances have already been opened and installed with the security system. I just wanted to make you buy me coffee."

"Well the exchange was certainly worth it, at least for me, so I won't dwell on the highly illogical nature of the transaction on your side," Enz said as he looked around the room. "This will do well for the entry chamber I have in mind, but it might be difficult to transport all the materials down here, are there any entrances bigger than the one we entered through?" he asked as he examined the chamber's dimensions with his left eye.

"Nope," Stella said, making a popping sound on the 'P'.

"Shame, I'll have to do a lot of disassembly and reassembly if I use this place. Very well, lead on, if your floor plans mean anything, there's a lot more to see," Enz said, making a mental note of the lack of a larger entrance.

"Of course. There isn't anything to show on the first floor. Yet. Let's go down." Heading to the stairs, they arrived in a circular corridor, with openings in the outer wall that lead to rooms, 5 in total. "In these rooms we found a lot of basic things such as bronze tableware, vases, a chess set, a tea table with chairs, and a whole lot of other stuff that would probably sell for a shitton of money in museums. Oh, and we're just getting started."
(For the aesthetics, just think of Dwemer Ruins from Skyrim throughout the entire bunker. Sorry, was too busy to model in the details.)

"Interesting that you didn't find anyone down here though. I mean, if they had such a secure hiding place, how would they have died off?" Enz commented as he checked each of the rooms and their dimensions.

"Yes, it does meet many of my prerequisites, and in a few areas, goes beyond what I could have hoped for. It would make a fine base of operations once I've made the necessary modifications to the interior," Enz said while continuing to examine every nook and cranny. "And don't think I haven't noticed your reluctance to speak of the previous owners. If I know anything of the typical human mind, I would guess that you won't divulge anything until you are ready. I'll not pursue it if you give me your word that my not having the knowledge won't get us killed, though I will expect you to tell me at one point or another."

"Yeah, don't worry, it won't. Like I said, we'll get to it. Now then, let us go and see the actual bunker now, shall we?" Pulling a chain in the wall on the end of the corridor, she headed back up the stairs. Now in the center of the large circular room, what looked like a lever had emerged from the floor.

"Yes, I believe this was in the maps you sent me. Though I believe we are technically already in the actual bunker," Enz said as he strolled over to the lever. After a few seconds, Enz reached out and pulled the lever.

A few whirring sounds were heard, and a large circular part of the room that they were standing on began descending downwards. "Technically, yes. You only saw the foyer though."

"I may need to make a few adjustments to the hidden lever mechanism, but otherwise , this bunker is proving to be an incredible resource for my uses," Enz commented as they descended deeper into the underground complex.

Stella smiled, "Of course." As they descended, a small monkey wearing a lab coat was seen climbing down the wall before leaping off onto Stella's shoulder, making a few angry-sounding chattering noises before quieting down. "Jack! Glad to see you've finally decided to get off the ship... Oh, are you unhappy that I went ahead without you?" The monkey softly screeched and nodded. "Well, maybe you shouldn't have vomited all over my plane then. Asako is cleaning it up right?" The monkey screeched and nodded once again. Smiling, she looked at Enz while scratching it under the chin and said, "Yeah, this is my pet monkey Jack. He wouldn't stop whining unless I let him come along but he still hasn't gotten accustomed to hypersonic flight yet. He'll come in handy for something later on." Jack blew a raspberry at Enz before affectionately wrapping his tail around the back of Stella's neck and picking through her plum-scented hair to see if there were any tasty insects to eat. After being unsuccessful, he attempted to flatten her hair with his paw back to how it was before and perked up as with a sudden bump, the platform reached the bottom, which was about 200 feet down. Stella walked out as a row of wall-lights immediately lit up. "And here we are. The belly of the beast."

Enz flicked the raspberry off of his clothing and walked around the first chamber, taking in the dimensions and then immediately continuing into the second area with the hallway and door off to the left. "This whole place is more expansive than I had gathered from the maps you sent me. I take it the underground lake is past here?" Enz said, pointing down the hallway.
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]

"Yes, it is." Walking to the end of the hallway, the stone circle rotated back and forth a few times before withdrawing into the floor. Past the doorway was a bridge with a lake a few meters under and glowing mushroom growing along the walls. "After deploying scanner drones, including submersibles under the water surface, I have detected no entrances into this area, so it should be safe from discovery."
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]

"I could make good use of this chamber," Enz commented as he walked up and down the bridge's length. "An isolated underground lake is a rare find; they're usually connected to a cavern system of some sort. The people who built this place sure got lucky. On a side note, are there any grimm in the water?" Enz said.
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]

"Either they're lucky, or they're the ones who made it. For some reason or another. Perhaps someone forgot to close the door or something during high tide. And no, there are no Grimm in the water."
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]

"Then at worst, this bridge is simply an excellent choke point for defense against enemies. And at best..." Enz trailed off and then moved to the far door. "Let us continue," he said and then opened the door and gestured for Stella to go ahead of him.

"Let us continue." Walking through the door, Stella made her way through the area until they reached another circular room, two curved one-inch deep pools of water in the floor. In the middle stood a black monolith with what looked like a closed red eye on it as well as two pedestals on either side in spaces in the wall. "Jack, do the thing I taught you." The monkey nodded and stepped into the water. Immediately, the monolith's eye opened and it turned towards Jack as multiple red designs glowed. As Jack walked in a 90 degree circle to the right, the monolith followed until a grating sound was heard. He then turned around and walked the opposite direction 180 degrees back around the monolith until the red eye was staring at the other pedestal. The entire room shook with a louder grating sound before stopping. Jack then just sat there with his feet in the pool. "Just as you predicted, Asako," Stella said before continuing around the monolith into the opposite end of the room.

"Hmm, a... lock, of some sort. Hardly an efficient method of security, but I believe it does add an extra level of protection to the complex. Correct?" Enz asked as he followed Stella to the other end of the room.

"To be honest, this was my first time using it. There is a corridor with the library entrance on the next level but directly under this floor, scanners have picked up empty space below this room, but I haven't been able to gain access to it my during my previous expedition until we solved the puzzle. So I'm rather curious as to what will be in there." Continuing to walk through the corridor, she turned right and headed down some stairs before being met with a now open doorway to an enormous circular room with a bunch of metal objects hanging from the ceiling. "Now, what is this... Library is to the left by the way, I've already transferred the books including all the hidden ones. Just call if you want to have a read."

Enz's left eye darted around the room, quickly taking in dimensions and crunching numbers. After a few seconds, Enz had a guess as to how it worked. "Assuming the green crystalline objects are meant to refract light, then this could be some primitive form of calendar," Enz theorized and began walking around the room, inspecting the room's contents. "And yes, I would like to read anything you might have removed from the library."

"You should, there's some rather interesting things in those books. For instance, I was particularly intrigued about an experiment which discovered that fuels from the remains of living things in the past, while far less efficient than Dust, does not lose its energy when exiting Remnant's atmosphere." As she said this, she looked around the room. "Quite interesting. They've constructed a small mirror system that allows sunlight in from outside. Now, I wonder what these do..." In front of them were five devices with a spherical button. Pushing one, the objects rotated around the room as the center crystal opened to show a mirror. "Hmmm..." Pushing another button, the devices swiveled again, focusing thin beams on the center crystal, which closed. She tried the other buttons which produced similar results except for the last button, which reset the entire device. "I see, so you were correct about the refraction part. The goal of this... dungeon mini-game is to create a light refraction pattern that is projected to the center. However, when you manage to focus the light to the center, the mirror closes. So one has to figure out the combination to focus the refracted light to the center while keeping the mirror open. Would you like to give it a shot, or do you want to just do it the, ah, manual way?"

"In the interest of preserving the mechanism, I believe we should try and solve the puzzle the way it was intended. That said, I may deem the value of the mechanism less than the possible value of what it reveals," Enz replied and began trying different combinations on the buttons. Fuel that doesn't loose its effectiveness outside of remnant's atmosphere. Hmmm, Enz thought and bookmarked the idea on the interface of his left eye.

As Enz pushed the buttons, he somehow managed to press the right combination, as the lens swung to the right position and from the mirror, a thin beam of light was projected onto the wall behind them displaying a map of Remnant with a curved line leading from the Sunkissed Sands to where they are currently. "Ah, a map. Looks like some sort of shipping route. Do you have any idea what they may have been transporting from there? "

"Funny that you ask me considering that you excavated this place. But if you don't know, then I believe the best way to find out would be to go to the place marked on this map and investigate," Enz said as he took a picture of the map with his eye. He then left the room and turned right, heading to the library.

"I will be free next week for that excursion, I believe," Enz said as he took the dimensions of the empty library. He then turned back and walked to the stairs. "If that is the whole complex, then I believe we can continue on to bunker B now," he said and then started up the stairs.
(If Stella doesn't have anything to say to him, we can time skip to when they touch down at the site of bunker B)

Enz's airship touched down in a clearing of what most would consider a wholly unremarkable section of forest. The woods northeast of Vale were not often used for much, but Enz knew there was something hidden nearby. Stella was right behind him when they were in the air, but he didn't wait for her to land before walking around the edge of the clearing, kicking at the ground with his M.A.C.G. in boot form.

With a low growl and a humming sound, Stella's airship hovered a bit over the ground as she exited with Jack on her shoulder before lifting off again, following them in the air. "Alright, lead the way."
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]
Post by: Viventium Umbra on September 27, 2016, 07:59:06 PM
End continued kicking at the ground as if he was searching for something. "Understand that this is my first time here as well, and though I have determined the rumors to be credible, I have not previously had time to come here. I only recently obtained the actual coordinates, but they didn't come with a description of the entrance location. In fact, I would wager that no one else has even been here before, and the coordinates were taken from a law enforcement database," Enz explained. He continued for a few seconds before a loud clang sounded when he was kicking at the side of a small hill. Enz reached down and lifted up a metal panel that had been hidden under the grass. A rusted broken padlock lay in the grass just before the doorway, which opened into an unlit tunnel disappearing into darkness. The smell of death wafted from the opening in sickening waves, but Enz showed no reaction. He simply reached into the doorway and lifted from it a human corpse. Or Faunus, it was too disfigured to tell. The corpse had been torn open as if someone had taken to it with a chainsaw, but most of the flesh had been taken by time and vermin. He tossed the corpse to the side and switched his left arm into its gun form before saying, "It seems we are entering a crypt. This means two things: First, that certainly no one else has been in here, or they would have done something about the bodies. Second, that this is uncharted territory and we should be on guard." Enz then ventured a few steps into the dark and held open the door for Stella to enter.
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]
Post by: Asterisk on September 27, 2016, 08:22:49 PM
"Oof, that's quite the smell... And that. Is a dead body." Kneeling down, Jack jumped off of her shoulder, taking a small glass capsule out of his inner pocket before tearing off a small chunk of the remaining flesh from the body and placing it into the capsule. "These wounds look like... Actually never mind." Looking up at Enz until he finished speaking, she said, "One sec." Four panels came came out of the ship hovering above them like the tray loading mechanisms of a DVD drive before each dropping a circular drone 15 cm in diameter. As the trays retracted back into the ship, the drones activated in midair and headed into the bunker ahead of them, scanning the rooms. About 10 more smaller drones 4 cm in diameter dropped down and hovered in the air around her. These weren't for searching. These were implosion bombs. Standing up, Stella jokingly said, "Data access code for the drones are 88AF5T. Feel free to deploy more if you'd like. You know. When I was small my parents warned me about following shady-looking men into dark places." Reaching to her side, she unhooked her weapon, ready to activate it if anything attacks them.

"I believe your parents were referring to pedophiles, and other, similar individuals driven by sexual impulses. Such fools disgust me, they are nothing if not detrimental to the progression of the human race, and they actively base their lifestyles on illogical pursuits," Enz commented. He then accessed the drones via his left eye and flipped through a few of the video feeds. What both he and the Drones found was a large network of tunnels. Some were plated with steel and had light fixtures in the ceiling, but others were narrower and looped around haphazardly. These offshoot tunnels almost seemed like animal burrows. Enz followed after the drones, and his left eye returned to supply night vision for him. He and Stella soon came to a three-pronged fork in the path with two steel-plated passages, and one burrow. "We may want to split up to cover more ground. Otherwise exploring this place will take far too long," Enz suggested.
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]
Post by: Asterisk on September 28, 2016, 12:54:21 AM
Nodding, Stella went down one of the steel-plated passages, one of the drones thoroughly scanning the area in front of her while the other went off ahead to map out the area. Another drone had been deployed from the ship and four of her bomb drones had broken of and surrounded it as it traveled to map out the burrowed tunnels. Meanwhile, the remaining two active drones were under Enz's command.
Title: Re: Subsurface Sightseeing [Closed]
Post by: Viventium Umbra on September 28, 2016, 09:14:44 PM
Enz went down the other steel-plated passage, since it seemed to be more logically oriented than any of the burrows. He made one drone scout out ahead of him and one scout out behind ad as made his way down the hallways. Enz soon came to a door that led off of the main hallway, or at least, the remains of a door. It used to be a sliding steel door, but it had been ripped through in a similar manner to the body they had found at the front, and though Enz could see a little in the room beyond it, the door was still blocking the way with a twisted mass of metal. Enz brought his right fist back and punched at the door, but before his fist could make contact, he expanded Svalinn. The momentum of his fist and the force of the transformation sent what was left of the door flying across the room until it hit the far wall with a loud clang. He entered the space and set one drone to guard the exit while the other would guard his back.
He found what seemed to be a large monitor hanging from the wall, and a series of desks, most of which had computers on them. Each seat had in it a deceased person, mangled and disfigured as the door and original corpse had been. Enz dusted off one of the computers and started unscrewing the bolts on its side.
As Stella makes her way through the passage, she/her drones will find a 4-way junction. The hallways to the left and right seem just like the rest of the steel-plated hallways, but the one that continues on forwards has both a stronger scent of decay and giant gashes in the walls and floor. The drone that is mapping the burrowed tunnels finds nothing of note except that the tunnels often lead to corpses and destroyed sections.
(Sorry I don't have fancy maps, but in all honesty I don't have a planned layout for the place. In a way, it makes everything a bit spookier, but in another way, it's just me being a lazy creator :-\)

"Holy shit. What the heck is with this place and making decisions," Stella complained. Jack screeched in agreement. Another drone was deployed and caught up to them in a short amount of time as each of them flew down a different path. Three holograms appeared in front of Stella as she waited to see what they will find.
(Perfectly fine. I'm the only one I know that makes maps, and even so they're not really detailed.)

Enz finished unscrewing the side panel and removed it. He then removed all of the memory storage drives and moved on to the next computer. He systematically dismantled the computers and claimed their memory drives for each before returning to the original fork with both of his drones.
Meanwhile, Stella's drone exploring the path to the left found that the hallway ended abruptly in a cave-in. The drone that had gone down the hallway to the right found a kitchen and dining area. Surprisingly enough, this wing of the building had very little damage and no corpses. It was in an eerie state of empty timelessness, and nothing seems to have changed since the day the facility was destroyed. The drone that had followed the gashes in the walls on the forwards path found that about 50 meters beyond the 4-way split, a door on the right labeled "Laboratory" stood slightly ajar, but not destroyed. Another meter or so down the hallway, it ended in what had once been an armored blast door. It had been torn through straight down the middle, and jagged bits of metal protruded from either side, preventing the drone from entering. The text on the door could be pieced together into roughly "Do Not Enter: Authorized Personnel Only".

As the drones mapped out the area, a hologram of a 3D map appeared appeared in front of Stella. She switched it to top orthographic just as the drone mapping the tunnels with rejoined her. As two of the three camera drones deployed ran into obstacles, two of her smaller bomb drones went down the left corridor as the camera drone was scanning the kitchen and dining area while another bomb drone went down the corridor with gashes in the wall. One of the two bomb drones to the left attached to the rocks of the cave-in while the one bomb drone in the forward corridor attached to the blast door. As a red light started flashing on them, they beeped for 10 seconds before large red spheres 3 meters in diameter with a pink glowing geodesic pattern on their surface appeared around each of the drones before shrinking, then disappearing. The spheres left behind large glowing holes cut out perfectly to their shape and size, a chunk of glowing highly condensed matter hovering at the center before promptly falling. The camera drones continued on as the obstacles were cleared out.

The drones exploring the area past the cave-in find a few rooms, but all seem to be sleeping spaces. None of them have dead bodies in them, but nonetheless everything inside was torn to shreds. As the other drone moved past the blast door, it shed its light onto a disturbing scene.
The entire room would have been a sterile white when it was in use, but now it was dirty and stained with blood in places. In the very center of the room was a metal chair (eerily shaped like a dentist's chair) bolted into the floor. The chair was torn up on the back and seat, and shredded restraints of some leather-like material hung limply from the head, arm, and leg sections. A pile of destroyed machinery that had presumably hung over the chair sat in a destroyed heap next to it. Along the same wall as the blast door, but off to the left, lay the remains of what could only have been a one-way window. Bits of mirror stuck out of the frame, but behind what would have been the mirror side lay a control room of sorts, possibly connected to the slightly ajar door on the right sight of the original hallway. This room was filled with the largest concentration of dead bodies in the whole complex so far, and the remains were so scattered and destroyed that it would have been impossible to piece together individuals.
The drone searching the kitchens and dining area found nothing of note aside from a few more corpses and what might once have been food.
Meanwhile, Enz had made his way to Stella's position and stood next to her, observing the holographic images and map. "I don't believe there is much more to see here. I'm certainly not going to use this for my project, and there doesn't seem to be any other rooms," Enz commented once the drone in the chamber straight ahead finished its sweep.

"Now those... those are dead bodies," Stella said, grimacing and looking over the contents of the room while thinking, And they all resemble the wounds caused by...it. She turned to Enz. "I want it. Trade bunkers?"

"Excellent." Stella held out her hand for Enz to shake, then said, "Asako. Run a complete forensics scan of this place. Every single scrap of DNA here needs to be categorized, every single gash in the wall, piece of debris, or anything else analyzed, and a full hologram simulation of everything that happened here on my desk in 5 hours."
A holographic ring appeared around her, sounding excited. "Yes ma'am! I love when you give me work!" The drones began mobilizing and scanning the area with even more depth and attention to detail.

Enz looked at the hand with distaste. This gesture meant nothing. Absolutely nothing. But he'd go along with it, if simply for the sake of staying on good terms with an obviously valuable ally. He then reached out and shook Stella's hand. "If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would like to see whatever you find. You have my scroll number, already, so just send anything you feel inclined to share there," Enz said as he turned and began to walk to the entrance.
(Just so you know, there aren't any traceable remnants of t17's blood. They cleaned up every time they physically injured Nathan, and the aura-affecting tests didn't involve physical injury. Stella is going to find lots of DNA from known White Fang members though.)

"Mmkay. Let's get out of this musty place while Asako does her- its thing." Stella followed him out.
(Alright. As if Stella didn't already know this was a White Fang base due to logo spam. Well, if they didn't spam their logo, now she does.)

(Everything's kind of ripped up and destroyed, so there aren't really any super-obvious logo spams. It'd be confirming rumors though. Sorry I can't have Stella figure out who t17 is, but it's because a big part of its intimidation factor is that no one knows who it is or where it came from.)
As Enz left the bunker, he messaged his private airship with his left eye. The airship then descended from its holding pattern and landed with a thud. Enz began to board and then turned back for a final word with Stella. "About that location in the Sunkissed Sands, simply message me when you are ready to take a trip out there, and I can scramble and transport," he said as he boarded the airship.
Once the doors were closed and the craft was underway, Enz opened up a call to an unlisted number. "I've obtained a place... Yes, I know. Codename Inheritance, do it now... Excellent, you will receive payment upon completion of your assignment," Enz said before hanging up. The ball was rolling, now he had to clear the hill of bumps.

Stella exited the bunker into open daylight and waved to Enz as he boarded his airship and left. Meanwhile, her own airship had just begun its descent before she said, "Eh, I'm gonna get some fresh air." Walking to a nearby tree, she laid down under it, staring up at the sunlight coming through the branches as the airship landed. Finally feeling it, she got up and vomited behind a rock before walking back to the airship. "Ugh. That was horrible."
