[This takes place outside the auditorium, following on from Sigurd's exit in 'New Students and Temporary Visitors]
There was a spring in Sigurd's step as he strode out of crowded auditorium. It was barely an hour since he'd woken up, but he'd already found himself a fight. And, by the sound of things, Yngvarr had even more of it lined up for him once this was done.
He made his way down the path, stopping at a row of trees a hundred metres from the building and setting down his statue. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and some poor sod was about to get the crap beaten out of him. His smiled contentedly. This was exactly why he'd joined the Academy in the first place.
He settled low into a splits stance, bending one leg and bringing his weight over to it to produce a sharp but bearable pain, and held the position. Then he turned his gaze towards the older student.
"Say, you're a magician, ain't you? Don't suppose you know how to magic up some food? I'm starving here."
-
Yngvarr stood a few metres away from the two. This would be fun to watch, but he wouldn't participate himself. He wasn't interested in fighting potential comrades. He took a seat that he could watch the match from and pulled out a bag of popcorn he had purchased on the way and waited for the entertainment to begin.
-
Galileo kicked his briefcase and it flips open, he pulled out a plate of cake, obviously one slice has been sliced off for the trick Galileo put on.
"I only have cake right now it's okay with you," Galileo smiled as he handed it to Sigurd. "Once you fill nice and filled up to fight, let's get it started then!"
(ooc: Warning, prepare to see alot of colors, alot)
-
"Oh, he's a magician, what's your muscles gonna do to him? Oh wait, don't want to tempt fate here, apparently my potential 2nd round is a brawler and everyone's betting he'd go far, farther than I'll, i.e. beating me. But that's why I'm here, watching and learning!" Catalina thought while picking a comfortable place and ready to watch some epic aura manipulation.
-
"Awesome," Sigurd grinned, shoveling cake into his mouth, "thith'll do nitheley. I kind of forgoth to geth thomethin' to eath earlier."
He reversed the stretch, shifting his weight onto his right leg, and proceeded to finish off the plate. "You know," he mused, licking the mess off his fingers, "if you wanted to show us a magic trick, the whole 'producing food' thing is probably the one you should have started with. Can never go wrong with free food."
Satisfied, he planted his feet together, straightened his legs, then bent forwards to place his palms on the ground. "By the way, who's the new guy? You here for the mission, or you just wanted a scrap?"
-
"Hahaha maybe I should whenever I perform at a children's birthday party, anyway him? He wants to talk to me after our little spar!" Galileo moves aside his briefcase and kicks it so it locks itself. He grabs his cane and puts his top hat on before smiling, standing it the most lax position, with his cane holding his weight.
-
Yngvarr watched as the magician produced a cake. That would have gone down pretty damn well with him. But when was the fight going to start?
"Come on! Do something" He shouted. Then he turned to the new guy. "So who's your money on?"
-
Sigurd yawned, straightening up and beginning to work out his arms. "Do something, do something," he muttered, "same old, same old. See," he addressed the rest of the small group, "most people, they don't really understand what it means to fight. All they want is action. And I get that, I do; but the thing is, some things are worth waiting for."
He began twisting his torso, coiling left, then right. "You want to fight, you don't want to be holding anything back. You don't want to hold back, you make damn sure that you're at your best. Otherwise, what's the point?"
After a few minutes of excercise, he stepped back into a preparatory stance, one hand held palm inwards before him. "Well then, I suppose we're just about ready." He beckoned with his outstretched hand. "Ladies first, as they say."
-
Galileo smiled and pull off his top hat while still leaning on his cane.
"For my first trick, watch as I throw a ball at you," Galileo then throws a ball made from his Semblance while yawning. The ball does not even reach Sigurd and just rolls a bit before coming to a stop. He gave Sigurd a childish smile and asked, "Nice speech, just wish you would just you know, hurry it up? "
-
"Me? Hmm, I hope brain beats brawn, otherwise my Vytal festival tourney would suck. And suck even more against grimm..."
-
"Fair enough." Yngvarr muttered. It was true that Sigurd had a disadvantage in that sense. But what he had went beyond brawn. He was inhuman in strength, and a single hit could be devastating fot Galileo. He settled down to watch the match.
-
Sigurd frowned as his bait went unanswered. "Thanks. Like to think I have a way with words. However," he narrowed his eyes, "you should have stuck with the cake."
He closed his eyes, focusing his mind upon the aura within. He opened his mouth, breathed in until his lungs felt fit to burst, then exhaled until there was nothing left. There it was.
The air around his body shimmered and warped as a series of orange fragments coalesced into existence. They spun around him, faster and faster, a hurricane of flashing lights, then all of a sudden grew still. One by one, They drew closer and settled upon his form until, after half a minute, the boy was encased in a shimmering suit of translucent armour.
"Dragon Hunter," he intoned mechanically, opening his eyes and sweeping his leg back behind him, "first phase: Hunter."
He smiled to himself. It was all show, of course- any ability which took that long to come into affect was useless as useless could be, so far as he cared- but the more he could mess with his opponent's head, the better.
"Do yourself a favour," he stated, with neither malice nor sympathy. "Don't get hit."
Then he kicked off against the tree behind him, using it as a starting block, and launched himself in a blur towards his opponent.
-
Galileo took a wide step to the side before Sigurd could bash the third year in. He casually picked up the ball that was still on the floor and holds it up.
"Here fetch!" Galileo threw it again lazily and the ball just rolls like before and stops like before. If anything, Galileo was not even being serious with Sigurd.
-
"Hilarious." Sigurd jammed his lead foot into the ground, converting his momentum into a spin, leaped into the air and lashed out at his opponent with an improvised tornado kick. But if you take this lightly, you're seriously going to die.
[OOC: Out of interest, what year actually is your character in? His profile says he's a fourth year but all of your posts say he's a third?]
-
(OOC: Would a wacky person like him tell you he is in fourth year?)
Galileo raised his cane to block the attack and held his position, feet spread apart. He then made another ball and throws it at Sigurd for fun.
-
Sigurd pulled the blow and retracted his leg, realising too late that the lunatic had actually intended to block it head on, and that if he'd just thought to activate the second phase he'd have ended his opponent in a single blow. Whatever. Too much thinking. He let himself drop to the ground, turning over and bringing his other leg around into a sweep.
[OOC: Okay, this is going to be pretty long for an OOC comment, but there are a lot of problems that need addressing.
Firstly, while I understand what you're trying to achieve with the whole 'pretending to be in a different year' thing, you're doing it completely wrong. When your character speaks he can say whatever he wants, which is why when he introduced himself as a 'third year Beacon student' it wasn't a problem. However, you can not. When your character lies, it's part of the roleplay; but when you lie, it's misleading and confusing. Outside the perspective of the character, you're supposed to write about what's truthfully happening.
Secondly, you're completely misunderstanding both your own character and mine, and thus the power balance of this fight. Galileo is a short, weedy guy who is often mistaken for a girl. He is many things, such as astrologer, astronomer, magician and fortune teller- warrior is only one of them. He has been training as one for between a decade and half a decade, closer to half if anything, and has not been training with outstanding dedication because he has a number of other things which he does in parallel.
Sigurd is a big, tough guy. He has about 30 kilos and 7 inches over Galileo, which in a fight is huge. He is a highly skilled martial artist, who has been training for about fifteen years. With no other hobbies or interests to spend his time on, literally all he ever does is train. I'd be willing to bet that he does more of it in a single year than your character has done in all his time at Beacon. Even accounting for his physical disability he has more experience, more training, and a better physique than Galileo. Likewise, you seem to be under the impression that Sigurd is a dumb brute; which is not the case. He is not slow, but of average speed, and although he may be headstrong there's nothing in his profile to suggest he is in any way unintelligent.
Realistically, Galileo is hopelessly outmatched. Being extremely generous, he might be able to fight as an equal. But there's no way in hell he can toy with Sigurd the way you have him doing. Which brings me to another point.
I've read Galileo's profile, and I understand that you're just trying to work with his fighting style. However, that style of playing with his opponent will only work when he's against a fighter less skilled than himself. If he tries it against someone more skilled, he's going to get himself torn to pieces within a few seconds. This is not just a problem with Sigurd. Your character is pretty weak by the standards of a Beacon student, especially for a fourth year, and you'll probably have a hard time finding someone it will work against.
Now, another thing you don't seem to understand is just how strong Sigurd is. I'd have thought it would be obvious by now with all the clues we've been dropping- the ground shaking when he strikes Yngvarr, Yngvarr referring to him as inhuman, and Sigurd himself thinking that if Galileo doesn't take things seriously he's genuinely going to die- but perhaps all of that was not enough. Galileo can not block his kick like that. If he did, Sigurd would break his arm and send that cane flying off into the distance. I've had to write around that, because I didn't want it to happen, but I could just as easily have let it go.
To simplify, you're completely misunderstanding the way this fight plays out. You're overestimating Galileo, and underestimating Sigurd.]
-
(OOC: Next time put that in PM, it becomes a bother to readers when they see something really long and not important to them. Its okay for short ones)
Galileo did not expect the sweep and fell over. He laughed and held his stomach as he continued laughing. Then he stopped abruptly.
"That was fun, now its my turn!" Galileo rolled behind Sigurd and picked up his two balls. He loads dust into his cane and shows a sadistic smile. " I'm more than meets the eye, Beacon knows that, I may seem weak, I've seen that look in people's eyes when I was younger. Galileo is weak, Galileo is just a girly boy. People make that mistake don't worry." The balls started going into psychedelic colors.
(OOC: Sorry if the last sentence is hard to see)

(OOC: to directly quote Gus,
On Combat Prowess: If your character is a first year student at Beacon, their skill level should reflect them being a first year at Beacon Academy. A 4th year should have an advantage against you, and a graduate should have an even larger one.
Three more years of learning should put Galileo on a somewhat advantageous position. Just not so much that he can actually toy with Sigurd. No matter what he hopefully can't one shot a fourth year because that's just overpowered, what chance does we year 1s have if that's the case? If there's someone who can do that, it will be Nathan, but with almost all of his aura doing about 600% aura damage.
Or we can have Gus GM as a last resort...)
-
(OOC: Ok so the point you are making is valid in certain circumstances. A fourth year student definitely has an advantage in certain areas. But there are many ways it doesn't help so much.
Sigurd has been training from a very young age, and the vast majority of his time is spent training. He has therefore gained a vast amount of combat experience and skill in that time.
Galileo has been training from (as far as I can tell from the profile) at most 13. If we assume that Sigurd was training from the age of 8 (though Neon tells me it's earlier than that we'll assume it was then for argument's sake) he still has 5 years on Galileo. Galileo's profile says he is 20. Sigurd is 19. So, by simple maths we can figure out Sigurd has been training 11 years, at least. Galileo has been training 7, at most. Sigurd has spent far more time training. If we were to calculate the no. Of hours each had been spent training Sigurd's number would be astronomically higher than Galileo.
Beacon Academy teaches combat. Lets assume that training at Beacon occurs faster than training alone, as it is being taught by trained professionals. So Galileo catches up a bit there, but he is limited by his practice as an astronomer, magician, etc, while Sigurd spends most of his time while he is awake training.
Beacon teaches combat techniques and tactics. While a character would naturally gain strength and speed at Beacon, these are not the traits most practiced. Sigurd has dedicated a huge amount of time to building his strength. His strength is practically inhuman. Galileo is portrayed as, while not weak, not especially strong for a Beacon student. When a student with strength like Galileo attempts to block someone with a strength like Sigurd, the weaker person will break. Sigurd is not weaker just because he is in a lower year. Galileo's only chance to prevent Sigurd's attacks are either by dodging or using his semblance/ aura.
I mentioned earlier that Beacon teaches combat techniques rather than traits such as strength and speed. Galileo's primary advantage on Sigurd would be these techniques and tactics. However so far he has not been shown to use ANY of these at all. I think it is safe to say that without them the odds are HUGELY stacked against him.
TL;DR: Sigurd has spent much more time training despite only having been at Beacon 1 year.
-
(OOC: I personally PMed Neon about the issue, but I should express one thing, you seem to be focusing too much on what Sigurd can do to overpower Galileo, and not what Galileo can do to overpower Sigurd. Of you compare the fighting styles of the two, Sigurd would rush forward and you know pound everyone. Galileo on the other hand wants to mess with your head, make you underestimate him, which is why he does things that seem odd, something he is good at. I'm sure you can interpretate that from reading how Galileo fights, why would someone fight like that? Its the brain of a martial artist against the brain of someone who knows how the brain would work.)
-
(OOC: Wow this has really gone off the rails lol. Had a few drinks so if some of this doesn't make sense that's why.
I completely understand what you're going for. I'm not advocating that Sigurd can beat Galileo hands down. Hell, if we already knew the outcome of the fight it would be bloody boring. What I pointed out was that Galileo has not used any of those techniques
He hasn't really tred to play with Sigurd's mind at all. All he has done so far is dodge and block Sigurd's attacks, and considering Galileo shouldn't be able to block the attacks he should be on the back foot.
I don't mean to insult here. If anything I have said has seemed aggressive that's not what I intended to put across. All I want is for you to understand how powerful an opponent Sigurd is, regardless of what year he is. Galileo should not be able to just toy with Sigurd, especially with things like "he sidesteps". It'seems boring to read, and realistically wouldn'the have a chance of stopping Sigurd.
Again, if some of this just seems like useless babble I'll talk again in the morning :)
-
(OOC: Let this be a lesson to all of us, we sometimes don't know what is in the head of to others(in this case me) that we sometimes misunderstanding intentions and actions which ends up confusing and sometimes outright making something boring. I do sincerely apologize that so far it seems out of hand and I have given you all a bad impression)
-
(OOC:So what now? Does the fight goes on?)
-
(OOC: afaik it will, but I'm waiting for Neon)

"Oh, good," Sigurd replied as, at the first scent of bloodlust, something buried deep within seemed to raise its head. He smirked predatorily, freshly filled with eagerness. "I was wondering when you'd drop the act."
He coiled back onto his shoulders, then sprung forwards and jackknifed up to his feet. Once more he settled into a neutral stance. Now, what are you going to do next? His eyes narrowed, and he gauged the distance between the two of them. Could he close it in time? Probably not, in the first phase. It all depended on how well his opponent could move.
He let the matter go, dropping his centre of mass and settling his weight towards his rear leg. Only one way to find out. He launched himself back towards his opponent.
(OOC: Sorry, was away for a while. Problem resolved; let us continue.)
-
(OOC: I'll get to posting with Galileo once his edits are approved
Edit: He is done)
Galileo threw Crux's sheathe aside and pointed the blade's dangerous sharp end at Sigurd. The balls became more psychedelic, more hypnotic as the colors swished about in spirals circles zigzags. An outline of random colors surrounded Galileo, obviously it was clear that Galileo's aura never had one color, it had many. He spreads his feet apart as he watched Sigurd come in close. He hopped back and unleashed a swift flurry of pokes.
-
Finally, this battle was beginning to get interesting. With the magician finally standing up to the fight Yngvarr began to cheer loudly for Sigurd. "Do it for the team, dude'" he was shouting.
-
Combined with the force of Sigurd's own momentum, the rapid thrusts were enough to repeatedly crack the breastplate of his armour. He managed to get in range, and punched out towards the other boy just as one of the stabs was able to penetrate his armour, cutting through his still-weakened aura and carving a line across his bare chest. Sigurd ignored the pain and continued the blow, knowing he'd come out on top if it came down to an exchange of blows.
(OOC: I wrote my response on a 3500ft summit, in 100mph winds, looking down at the beautiful Snowdonian landscape. It was a lovely response with elegant prose, wonderful characterisation, and a fleshed out and detailed narrative. I felt very proud of it. Then I hit the preview button and my shitey laptop went and crashed on me.
It's a pile of crap, but I've written this out in order to let the thread continue. I'll go back and rewrite it properly when I have the energy/motivation)
-
(OOC: I know how that feels. Don't get discouraged too much...)
Catalina is getting more and more excited as he can watch some spectacular exchange with aura shapes hopefully flying everywhere.
-
Sigurd knew how to throw punches, but Galileo was nimble, qiuck as the fiddle on a professional fiddlist, dodging the punches like leaves floating in the wind. The balls that were floating next to him blocked punches and cracked started forming across their surface. He hopped back, a click in his step from the heels of his shoes. He rolled and grabbed his sheathe, the balls flying around Sigurd like a flock of butterflies, but just alot more annoying. Galileo puts his sword hilt in and makes the hilt perpendicular to the sheathe. It was not long till the shapes of flying metal stars flew towards Sigurd's direction.
[I would love a picture of your view]
-
Who's turn is it?
-
I don'the know. Not sure if Neon is here anymore :/
