Title: Simple Disasters [MARS Initiation]
Post by: Martian on October 17, 2016, 01:25:33 PM
Marshal stepped off of the airship and onto the streets of Vale, thanking the airship pilot as he did so. It was a quiet autumn night, and it seemed like the whole city was peaceful and quiet. Of course, that wasn't the report that he had recieved.

Apparently, a part of the wall around the city managed to crumble, letting in a small amount of Grimm. While this would normally be a serious problem for trained Hunters and Huntresses, the wall was fixed quickly enough so the number of Grimm that managed to make it in the city was much smaller than anticipated. For some reason, the higher-ups at Beacon saw this as the perfect opportunity to have an initiation exercise. Along with Marshal, a few dozen other first years were being strategiclly dropped into the city to combat the few stragglers that remained. In the process, they were instructed to retrieve certain items and bring them back to pass.

Along the way, it would be inevitable that groups of first years would meet up in some fashion. As per Beacon custom, the first person you made eye contact with during the exercise would be on your team for your entire Beacon career. Marshal wondered who he would run into and considered who he had already met so far at his brief time at the school.

"Alright," he muttered to himself, stifling a yawn. "Let's do this." Marshal took off down the street in search of Grimm, and his future teammates.

Ash straightened out his lab coat after arriving to the area of the Streets of Vale where the incident had occurred.  The night was quiet, if a little warm for his tastes, but with the onset of Autumn he knew he would begin to feel more comfortable soon enough.

Ash took out his scroll and began looking over the mission objectives once more; he snorted at the part about how he would meet his teammates.  Ash put away his scroll and looked for a fire escape so that he might take the high ground and take a cursory glance of the area.

Seeing his target, Ash sighed and shouldered Requiem so that he could climb.  "Better to start now instead of later."  With a roll of his neck, Ash began climbing the ladder.

The grimm were luckily confined in the one of the more isolated areas of Vale and properly barricaded against lest they got into the city, good thing otherwise it would've meant panic for the residents. Having no clear idea of the number of grimm or their respective locations Shiroe would essentially be walking into a death trap full of man-eating monsters. Just another day in the life of a huntsman in training. Feeling his aura at its peak and having had a proper rest and warmup beforehand, Shiroe strolled along the empty city streets using what few lampposts that were still on as a guide on where to go. Of course he could've set up a rune of light on his person but that might attract unwanted attention; the first thing he wanted to accomplish before fighting hordes of grimm was getting a teammate, at best a complete quad of them, he wasn't too sure about handling urban fighting but he was sure that keeping damage to a minimum was essential as well.

Wanting to pick up the pace Shiroe activated some speed runes on his legs, the armor plates enhancing his stride as he sped through the dark concrete jungle while he kept his sabre at the side, ready to intercept any foes he would come across.

How typical. The people in charge of keeping the people in town safe and protected had failed miserably, and who do they send to fix it? The students. Ones still needing to go through initiation, at that. Of course, it wasn't like Reginald couldn't handle it. Of course he could. It just felt so ridiculous. And the way they were to find their partners? Good lord, all he could hope for was that he wouldn't be paired with some pleb nobody.

The rich brat was dressed as usual, cape and vest included, and carrying Solace in his hands. He was moving rather swiftly through town, keeping an eye out for any creatures of grimm around the area, but it had seemed quiet thus far. Maybe the mission was going to be a cakewalk after all. Not that it wouldn't be if he would encounter grimm. Of course not.

Marshal had begun the night running around the area of the city the Grimm were enclosed in, but after a bit decided that it was too much effort to run around everywhere. After some time not watching where he was going, he bumped into someone else that was out and about.

"Oh," he grunted. "Sorry about that!" He focused his gaze on the person in front of him to find that it was the dorky kid with the cape he had run into earlier! "Oh, shit," he muttered, slowly realizing what this meant. It appeared karma was biting him in the ass for his comment earlier.

Reggie had been wandering about for a while now, and was considering firing to attract the attention of anything around the area. But, as the thought crossed his mind, he rounded a corner to have someone run into him. He took a step back, scoffing at the interaction.

"Watch where you're going, damn you!" He said, before squinting. He recognized this man. He had been there during Reginald's arrival here. Reggie turned his head up high and shoo'd Marshal with his hand. "Whatever, just keep moving. I'm sure your partners around here somewhere." Reginald spoke, stepping around Marshal and starting to head off. He really didn't get this partner thing, huh?

It took a lot to irritate Marshal. It really did. This guy somehow managed to push every button Marshal had just by saying three sentences to him! However, this did present Marshal with a serious moral choice. He could just pretend that he hadn't seen the brat and just moved on, but that could potentially get him in trouble. After all, it was extremely likely that the faculty was monitoring them.

Marshal sighed and clutched his forehead with his hand. "No, I'm your partner," he muttered. Deciding that being upset wasn't going to get him anywhere, he tried to be polite and extended his hand out to shake the other boy's hand. "My name's Marshal," he said, smiling lightly.

I'm going to have me and Walter post back to back until Reggie and Marshal are successfully grouped up. It won't take very long.

Reggie stopped walking, and looked back at the hand. Then at Marsha's face. Then his hand. Face. Hand. Face. Hand.

Oh, cock.

Reginald sighed, ignoring the hand. "Yes, yes, a cute idea. I suggest you find someone of more appropriate status to your own." He said with the most snobbish intonation possible. Of course, at this moment he realized that this wasn't a choice. For some God-only-knows reason, Beacon wanted their students to team up in a matter resembling a lottery of sorts. And, well, to Reggie it appeared that he had lost. One assumes the feeling was mutual.

Marshal's face flushed from embarassment and slight annoyance. "N-no, I don't think you understand," he stammered. "That's not how this works. If we just skip over each other and find other partners, we could get in trouble. I'm not about to get kicked out because you're being a snob. Plus, based on your entrance earlier today, you're not really in any position to be picky, cape boy." He started to get a little carried away, so he took a deep breath in and sighed.

"Sorry," he grumbled. "I'm just a little on edge-" Marshal's sentence was cut short by the sudden sight of a lone Beowulf behind Reginald. Reflexively, Marshal shoved the snobbish boy out of the way, likely knocking him down, and grabbed Sunset's Edge. In a flash, he swiped at the Grimm, damaging it and stopping it from attacking either of them. However, he also managed to succeed in pissing it off and attracting three more Beowolves.

"Could use an assist, teammate!" Marshal spat in annoyance.

"If there is no choice, I guess I could lead the way for those below me. You should be happy to have someone with my charisma on your te- OOF" The little twatmunch couldn't finish his thought, as he was roughly shoved to the side, falling flat on his cape with Solace clanging down next to him on the ground.

Reggie scoffed yet again, scrambling up to his feet and grabbing his rifle. "How dare you do that to me?! Do that again and I'll-" The rich git paused, looking around at the gathering grimm. "I won't be forgetting that." He simply uttered through pursed lips, and steadied his aim, a bolt already loaded into his weapon. Time for some monster bashing.

Having finished his climb, Ash patted the dust off of his coat and activated his semblance.  With his sense of hearing heightened, Ash began listening for Grimm and students alike.  After a few minutes of relative silence, he heard someone making their way through the streets quite fast.  Deactivating his semblance, Ash pulled up Requiem and began looking for the person through his scope.

Locating the person, who he recognized as Shiroe from earlier, Ash decided to keep an eye on his fellow Atlesian.

Marshal backed up a bit from the pack of Grimm and caught a glance at Reginald's weapon. It seemed to be a solid iron rifle, which Marshal was pretty happy with. The team's composition was already pretty solid. Hopefully the other two teammates would be able to compliment their styles as well.

"Listen, man," Marshal grunted. "If we're going to be on a team, you'll have to keep that seemingly infinite ego of yours in check. Can we just work together on this?" Not feeling like charging straight into a pack of four Beowolves, Marshal fit the pieces of his weapon together and formed his assault rifle. He grabbed the special cartridge from his ammo belt and loaded it up, charging his Semblance into the cartridge.

Shiroe bursts through the streets like a speed demon but soon enough started slowing down. Though his runes used dust most of the time he still had to keep up with the physical exertion of moving his own body, in short he was tired. Stopping by a small lamppost Shiroe spotted a few beowolves moving towards a certain direction almost as if they found something interesting to play with. Preparing several runes on his blade and one dust vial, Shiroe tried following the grimm from as far as possible to avoid being detected. If he followed them he would be able to find other people and increase his chances of success in this initiation.

That is...if he wasn't overrun by them first.

"I'm not one lowly enough to put petty squabbles ahead of a task. I hope you can at least handle your weapon." The wealthy cuntswaggle responded. He took a short breath, aimed at the grimm nearest and most threatening to the two, and fired. The bullet flew out from the barrel rather elegantly, striking the beast square in the head. Reggie didn't wait to see the results of his shot, instead loading his other shot and firing at another creature, while the other laid either distracted or dying. Either worked.

He may be an irritating, mostly useless twat, but he handled his weapon well. But if the beowolves managed to get a charge? He'd probably be severely fucked. As such, after firing his second round, Reggie paused and waited to see the creatures' next move, as well as see if his partner could get some shots off. Last thing he wanted to was to get caught reloading with his head in a grimm's jaws.

Well that was reassuring. Marshal took comfort in knowing that even if his new teammate seemed like an insufferable asshole, he wouldn't let it get in the way of a mission. He had managed to easily take down one of the Beowolves with relative. With his weapon fully loaded, Marshal began unloading on the nearby Grimm. His aura bullets tore through the other three without much of an issue.

"That worked out pretty well," Marshal mused, changing his weapon back to its normal form. "Shall we keep moving?" He started to walk ahead when suddenly another, larger pack of Beowolves headed their way. They were probably being led to Marshal and Reginald due to the negative emotions they had been exhibiting toward each other just previously.

"I don't believe anyone put you in char- Oh, fuck." The pompous dickwaffle was cut short of any rant as he saw the approaching grimm. He quickly fired a shot off, striking one of the beasts, then dug through his pockets for a moment before pulling a slightly purple-tinted bullet.

Reggie loaded it into his weapon and took aim at the creature at the front of the pack. He fired, having to hop back as the knockback hit him pretty hard. The bullet struck the creature in the chest, the gravity dust taking effect upon impact and quite successful messing up the grimm advance, if only for a moment. "I may be bloody good with this thing, but I think even I might have a problem here." Reginald uttered, loading another bullet and glancing at his partner.

Managing to arrive just in time to see a gravity bullet clump a group of grimm together Shiroe took the opportunity and launched the dust vial with a speed rune effectively creating a small explosion upon impact. Taking advantage of the clutter he burst through the ranks with quick flurry of blows, slashing away at a couple of beowolves as he left rune after rune in his wake, occasionally emptying a vial in between strikes on the ground as he ran towards the other two.

Having followed Shiroe through his scope, Ash fired off a few bolts of energy on the surviving members of the explosion.   Ash took advantage of the distance between himself and the pack of Beowolves, Ash then began targeting the outliers of the pack.

Marshal was amazed by the display going on in front of him. Not only did his snobby partner have some neat tricks up his sleeve, but another interesting combatant entered the fray, and judging by the shots that rained down on the remaining Grimm, yet another was watching over them.

All but one of the Beowolves disappeared in a puff of black smoke, and Marshal didn't want to be outdone, so he charged at it while charging a Blast and swiped vertically from a distance, effectively slicing the Grimm in two. With that, all the Grimm had seemingly been taken care of, for the moment.

Marshal exhaled sharply. "That was pretty cool," he grinned. He recognized the newcomer from the incident in the courtyard earlier. He seemed to remember him introducing himself as Shiroe. "Hi there!" he called out.

"Oh, the guys from earlier. Reggie and...I'm sorry I don't believe we've formally been introduced. Shiroe replied, sheathing his sabre while taking a look at where the shots came from. Unable to properly see who it was he just assumed it to be another student, luckily safe from grimm attacks at the moment."and I do believe we have another fighter all the way up there.

Extending his hand Shiroe reached out to shake with Marshal and gave a nod to Reggie who seemed to be doing quite well despite his...demeanor.

"Ah, Shiroe. It's good to see you here. That was quite the impressive display back there." Reggie commented. How much of it was genuine compliment and how much was him sucking up to another rich kid was left to one's imagination.

Reggie glanced up to where the hots had come from, trying to spot whoever had been aiding them while he reloaded his rifle. "If I get this whole 'partner' nonsense correctly, whoever is up there is going to be your partner."

Ash, seeing that the last of the Grimm had been taken care of, patted himself off as he stood up; trying to make sure that he could be seen, Ash began waving to his fellow students.

Hoping that the group had seen him, Ash returned to his previous position so that he might keep an eye on the group.

Marshal was delighted to see that someone that actually wanted to shake hands with him, after Reginald continued to be pretty rude. Marshal returned Shiroe's handshake with a firm grip. "Nice to meet you," he smiled. "I'm Marshal. Marshal Oranzova!" He turned to look at the figure waving on the rooftop. "Hey!" he shouted, hoping that the person could hear. "You should come on down!" With these two newcomers, it looked like the team would be full.

"I guess we can continue on with the mission, now that we have four of us," Marhsal noted. "Anyone have any ideas as to where those artifacts could be?"

Ash, hearinig that Marshall was calling for him to come down from his perch, grumbled a little as he made to climb down the fire escape to ground level.

Once reaching ground level, Ash made his way over to the group.  "Well gentleman, it's a pleasure to see you doing well."

Shiroe smiled and nodded at Ash and Marshal, now completing their temporary team and therefore dramatically increasing their chances of survival. Having no idea where they were, and judging by Marshall's question neither did he and Reggie, Shiroe looked over to Ash who seemed to have the best view of the city.

"Hello Ash, did you happen to see any notable areas from way up there? Shiroe asked, having no clue at the moment.

"My guess would be that they're either in some obvious landmark, or at least near. They couldn't be expecting for us to check the houses. Surely not." The strutting cock of a man commented as he placed Solace on his back once more, his cape flapping about as he did.

Shiroe and Ash would certainly be useful members of the team. They were clearly talented, respectable, quite wealthy. Reginald's view of his partner, however... Was different.
Title: Re: Simple Disasters [MARS Initiation]

Ash tilted his head to the left as he looked at Reginald.  "Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if part of this exercise is to find the artifacts inside of houses.  We would be taking care of any Grimm in the houses, and we'd be learning infiltration skills.  On the other hand, I doubt that the academy wants us breaking locks or windows in search of these relics."

Ash then turned his head to Shiroe to answer his question.  "I saw a few statues in the area, but I dearly hope those aren't the artifacts we have to collect; though there is a chance that the artifacts are small, and I missed them when I was checking the area."

Marshal was beginning to feel ignored. These three clearly knew each other, and all seemed to be cut from a similar cloth. If Marshal wanted to stay relevant in his own team, he'd have to step up to the plate and prove that he was worthy of the others. "Why don't we start by checking out those statues that he suggested." He turned to Ash. "Your name was Ash, right? Can you take us to those statues?"

"I wasn't aware someone put you in charge." The extravagant prickhead remarked, crossing his arms. He wasn't just going to let some mere peasant give orders like that, especially not to someone of higher standing, with people who held actual power around him no less. No, that simply wouldn't stand!

Reginald was oh so certain that his wealthy compatriots would agree. Because he's a tool.

"Now now, Reggie, I believe Marshal is right. We should check on those statues, they're our biggest clue so far. Shiroe said, trying to defuse any tension. Shiroe didn't want any fighting at the moment but he knew that Reggie would probably think of another reason to bite back at Marshal later. For now getting through initiation was all that was on his mind right now, and hopefully they get through it in one piece.

Marshal was starting to get very annoyed with Reggie, but he figured that fighting with your teammates would be bad for your grade in general. Luckily, Shiroe and Ash seemed to be fairly congenial.

"That's fine," Marshal smiled at Ash."Let's get moving!"

The profligate cumbucket pouted, his arms remaining crossed. He didn't like this one bit, but at least he could take solace in the fact that he wouldn't have to deal with this bastard's 'leadership' much longer.

Surely, the people in charge at Beacon would see his own skills and grant him the title of leader in his team. It would only make sense, really. Who else had the class, the charisma, the elegance Anyone else in the fucking world you pusswanker.

So, with a huff and displeased look on his face, Reginald begrudgingly followed along without another word. He didn't want to waste his breath, after all.

Shiroe nodded and followed suit, keeping an eye out for any activity. Preparing a rune he casts a rune of light and places it on the end of his blade, holding it up like a torch as they continued through the dark streets barely lit by the failing streetlamps.

"My stepfather told me that the artifacts they usually put out are pretty small, like chess pieces or something similar," Marshal explained. "He went to school here, too, so he's pretty well-versed in this kind of stuff." Marshal went to take a step, but was stopped by the sound of roaring near their location. Three Ursa, two minor and one major, were headed straight for the fountain. They were still pretty far away, but Grimm seemed particularly attracted to Marshal ever since he had ran into...

Reginald. That pompous ass had been nothing but negative ever since he arrived at Beacon and tripped over his own stupid costume. Surely, he was the one that was bringing the Grimm to them with his negativity.

"We've got company, people," Marshal said, getting his weapon ready. "Look alive." While he was waiting for the Grimm, a small flash of light reflected in the corner of his vision. He looked down and saw a few coins resting at the bottom of the fountain. This clearly wasn't a wishing well, as there were only a few coins scattered here and there throughout the fountain.

"I found the items," he whispered. "One of us can grab them while the other three fight off those Ursa." Hopefully, one of them would step up to the plate while Marshal and the other two would cover for them. They probably wouldn't be able to defeat a whole pack of Ursa on their own at this point, but they could at least hold them off, so their best option would be to grab the coins and get out.
Title: Re: Simple Disasters [MARS Initiation]

Reginald wasn't going to be the one who would look for coins in some fountain, mission or not. How pathetic of a task was that? If anyone it was this Marshal who should be doing it not them. As such, he simply ignored the things, instead taking Solace off his back again.

Reginald aimed down his sights, letting the creatures get closer, not firing yet. He hadn't brought that much ammunition to this mission. He had 28 shots left, and if he was careful, that would equal 28 more dead grimm. And he'd preferred it if he wouldn't have to go into melee. Ever, really. The cowardly little shitbiscuit.

"Do what you must, I'll try slowing down the Ursae. Shiroe replied, dashing sideways in an attempt to flank the grimm while Reggie shot at them. Preparing a rune Shiroe locked some frost dust in his sabre and sent out a small wave of ice from his position, the ground frosting over as a path of ice glazed over the ground and sped towards the nearest ursa.

It looked like Ash was going to take care of the coins. That was good! "Just take one for each of us," Marshal instructed. He drew his blade and charged at the Ursa Major.

With a battle cry, Marshal began his attack with a full-force swing at the Grimm's chest. The two Grimm took considerable damage from each teammate's attack. Enraged, the Ursa major took a mighty swing at Marshal, who managed to stop the attack with his scabbard, but not without causing a considerable amount of damage to his Aura, which was working overtime to make sure his arm didn't break from the force. The third Grimm was charging Marshal, and would certainly hurt him horribly if no one was able to step in and help.

Well now, this was quite the moral predicament to one royal taintmuncher. His 'partner' had brilliantly decided to go into melee with the grimm even though they held a ranged advantage, and was about to, quite possibly, have his face chewed off by the ursa. Reginald had his rifle aimed straight at the beast currently going after him, and could probably dispatch him pretty easily. It was their mission, after all. At the same time, he didn't really like Marshal.

A second passed, and the creature got closer. Reggie sighed, before firing a shot at the thing's head, loading the next bullet, this time hitting it in the leg. He paused, considering a bayonet charge, but decided it would be too much. Confusing it should at least give that peasant time to avoid certain death. After all, he could rely on Shiroe, who was a much better melee combatant, and was currently flanking the thing.

Ursae are known to have hard shells near most of their exterior portions, the major being the most well armored. The joints are too hard to strike without getting within melee range so best I could do is take down the smaller ones for the meantime. Then we can focus on the larger target.

Dashing forward while sliding on his manmade ice path, Shiroe leaned down and made attempted a large horizontal cut past the ursa he was attacking from behind and spun around to throw another rune powered dust vial at the trio, a mixture of fire and lightning to create a small pillar of flame, as he slid further away finally stopping on hard pavement.

Marshal was a little concerned, but Reggie and Shiroe stepped in with their own skills and managed to save him. He smiled, knowing that it must have been a difficult decision for his reluctant partner, but took joy in knowing that he made the right choice.

The two smaller Ursa crumbled into smoke, and the Ursa Major stumbled backward. Marshal, realizing this was his chance, quickly charged up a Blast and let it fly straight into the Grimm's chest. This was finally enough for the giant bear, toppling it over. The area was finally clear.

"Phew!" Marshal sighed. "That went pretty well!" Noticing that Ash had gathered all the coins, he smiled. "Looks like we're done here, shall we go see our results?"

Reginald reloaded Solace and placed it on his back once more. "I suppose. Next time I suggest you actually consider what you're doing before rushing in like a complete buffoon. Even if you might be one. I'm sure the teachers will tell you just that when we get back." The pretentious tit commented, crossing his arms.

No matter, Reggie was certain that he had shown himself quite well to the people in charge here. He just might find himself as team leader. Yes, that would certainly fit him nicely. It wouldn't.

Well...that was easy, Shiroe thought as he sheathed his blade. Three medium sized grimm and a small wave of beowolves, not exactly major threats but they were still in thr city. No douht anything bigger than what they saw was immediately dealt with. That or another team took them out. Looking at the coins Ash picked up Shiroe noticed that thry all looked rathet similar, perhaps he'd be seeing these fellows more than he wished.

Ash looked at his companions, and he rested his rifle on his back. "Well,  I do believe we can be on our way out now, if we wish."

Ash then look at his partner, Shiroe, "So, what's the plan?"

Shiroe sighed slightly and shook his head, not really knowing  what the higher ups had in store. So far nobody showed enough qualities to be a leader though frankly there was definitely one person who wouldn't fit the bill.

"Reginald go on anf take a coin." Shiroe said, reaching out for one himself. "You too, Marshall."

Marshal happily accepted a coin. "Well, since we found what we're looking for, we should head for the extraction point they told us about when we got the assignment." He got out his Scroll and pointed them in the right direction.

The next morning, the first-years were gathered in the hall for their results. After a bit of time, Marshal was called up along with Ash, Reggie, and Shiroe.

"The four of you from now on will be a part of Team MARS, led by Marshal Oranzova."

The headmaster's words were a bit of a shock to Marshal. He had made a few ridiculous errors in the exercise, as Reggie was so eager to point out every time. What was with this decision?

Ash mulled it over, and nodded his head.  "Expected."

Reginald was at first disappointed at the fact that he'd have to be in the same team as Marshal, but that was barely an issue. Surely, his other two teammates would allow them to-

Wait, hold the scroll, Marshal was the team leader? Reggie looked to Ash and Shiroe, hoping to see some sort of objection, but appeared to find none. This was wrong, this was very wrong, and Reggie didn't even try to hide his emotions, glaring angrily first at the man who announced their names, then at Marshal. Spoiled bitchboy was pissy.

Shiroe nodded solemnly and clapped at Marshall's appointment. If it were Shiroe he would've been worried, not only would he not know how to deal with a team he also didn't really think he was leader material to begin with. Looking over at Reggie who seemed to be in some sort of bad mood, as always, Shiroe sighed and looked at Marshall saying, "Congratulations. We'll be in your care then."

Marshal was still a little flustered, but he smiled at Shiroe. "Thanks," he grinned. "I promise that I'll do right by you guys." He looked over to see Reggie staring daggers at him. He walked over to the disgruntled cunt and tried to say something, but stopped himself and said something else.

"Listen," he muttered. "I know you don't like me, but believe me, I don't understand this decision either." He extended his hand for a handshake, but realized that it would probably be a bad idea.

Reginald scoffed and crossed his arms. He didn't even pay attention to the hand Marshal had extended. "Don't start thinking highly of yourself because you've been made leader. It's a mistake." Reginald said, nearly adding 'my father will hear about this' to the end of it. Luckily, the whiny shitstain refrained from mentioning his father and seeming like even more of a douchey brat than the usual.

Reggie then started to head off without another word, seemingly thinking he had made some fantastic point and that made him cool. Dick.

Ash rolled his eyes and spoke in a bored tone.  "Well, it's clear why you weren't made leader."

"Ahh, no need to argue now. I say let's go find our official room and start moving in. Agreed?" Shiroe blurted out, trying to diffuse the tension. He wouldn't really care either way but if he was going to spend the rest of his schooling with these guys he might as well make it comfortable.

Marshal smiled. At least two out of three wasn't bad. "I agree," he said. "I'm ready to start!" The newly formed Team MARS made their way to their dorms to get settled in for a year at Beacon Academy.
