Sunrise. A time during the day where it was the most serene and quiet. A time where the daily hustle had yet to taint the pure, tranquil moment. It was a moment that Oberon enjoyed most. Taking a sip from his canteen full of coffee, Oberon decided to lean against one of the trees that made up the vast Emerald Forest. It was here that he was assigned to give the mission for yet another first year team that had made its way into the roster of Beacon Academy. Though he did not mind doing these types of things and saw it as part of his duty as a teacher at the Academy, deep down, he yearned to be at home in bed with his wife. Nothing would ever replace the joy he felt with her wrapped up in his arms on a cold morning.
Despite all that, he had his duty and he was going to fulfill it. Pulling out a cigar, Oberon proceeded to review each student that would be going through this mission as he lit his cigar and inhaled deeply from it. Not seeing anything worthwhile or too out of the ordinary, he smiled slightly over the light coming from his cigar. Perhaps this will be a somewhat of an easy task for them today then... he thought. Putting his Scroll away, he opened his canteen and took another sip from it. Looking over towards Vale, he was able to distinctly make out three pink silhouettes where his home was located due to his semblance. More than likely they're still sleeping... he thought, smiling to himself. If all went well today, then he would be able to make it back in time for lunch. His wife always knew how to make a good meal and it was one of the many things he looked forward to each day.
Focusing his mind back on the matter at hand, Oberon took a look at the time and saw that the students should be arriving within the next fifteen minutes. Cracking his neck and knuckles, he proceeded to wait patiently for the others to show up.
-
Damien rose up early to fix up his gear and do early morning maintenance on his limbs. He headed out after doing so and walked over to the location. He wondered who he got paired up with to fight Grimm.
-
Salina woke up in the morning excited and nervous but ready for her initiation. Today she wore her combat outfit to be more formal towards this event. At this moment Salina is sitting on a bench near the location while reading a book on history of music and not paying attention to what's around her except for the time till the initiation starts. While reading her book she was thinking about the people she'll meet and the Grimm she'll face but overall she was determined to do her best.
-
The first rays of sunlight hit Axus’ face like a buckshot. That analogy only makes sense when you consider his expression when the light woke him up suddenly from his dream. He had woken up with the sunrise many times, but not all things get easier with repetition. But now he was awake and a quick inspection of the time supplemented an injection of caffeine. He stood, recently polished armor clanking with movement, and took inventory. Résiste was in gauntlet form on his left hand as expected. Mords was lodged in the tree he had slept up against that night, also as expected. He pulled his sword out of the bark and inspected it for damage, of which there was only minor dulling that only he would notice. Sheathing the blade he checked for his scroll and wallet, both accounted for. Lastly, he checked his belt for his “good luck charm”, a trench knife with no finger dividers and a five-inch blade with the word NUTS engraved on both sides. It was the first successful weapon he had made and even though he did not believe in luck charms, he still carried it on special occasions. Since all was accounted for he chuckled aloud at nothing in particular and made his way to the designated location, hoping that his new team would be half as up for adventure as he was.
-
Misa was not one who was particularly good with mornings. As the sunlight illuminated her face and threatened to tear her from her dreams, she threw her bed covers over her head and began to doze off again. It was only after her alarm went off that she realised that she was supposed to be doing an initiation in 5 minutes! She hastily gathered together her weapon and equipment, threw on her stealth clothes and dashed out to the meet point. Her mind raced, thinking about who she might meet today. This was surely going to be a great day, no matter how many Grimm attempted to get in her way.
-
OOC: Pass on my turn...waiting for someone to arrive lol :P
-
As Damien kept the pace a step below marching to conserve energy, he managed to get there in a reasonable time. He looked around the location, saw the professor, and walked towards him. "Morning sir." He took a look around again and saw an old tree stump. Damien decided to sit down and perform some fine-tuning on his limbs so he can stay on top of his game.
-
As Salina realized it was time to go to the location she stopped reading, picked up her violin case and made her way down to where her initiation was. When she arrived at the location she saw guy on a tree stump and the professor waiting for other students to arrive. Salina walked towards the professor and greeted him "Good morning sir." then walked to a tree near the stump that one other student was sitting and started leaning on it. In her head, Salina was trying to keep herself calm for the unknown Grimm she might face but overall she was ready for combat and to do her best.
-
As Axus walked, his presence generated three sounds: the rustling of the grass and bushes, the clanking of his armor, and the tune of his jolly chant. With his sword over his shoulder he recited an old war ballad he had taken a liking to. “Hail! To Vale! Mightiest warriors in the land!” As he sang, he refrained from slashing at branches in his way, opting to move them with his free hand as to preserve the beauty of the forest. “Hail! To Vale! Ready to fight with a sword in hand!” His mind wandered to all the possible allies he would meet today, all the possible personalities he would spend his years with, all the possible souls that would aid him in his conquest. “They fought epic battles every day, this is why we say…” He sensed that he was about to arrive. With one last sweep of the arm he moved aside the last branch that obscured his path to the rendezvous, proclaiming, “HAIL TO VALE!” with that, he burst into a brief fit of deep laughter and giving his formal introduction: “Greetings and good tidings to you my comrades! Fate has seen fit to entwine our destinies! Surly this is cause for celebration!” He then walked over to where his fellow students sat, giving a nod to the professor out of respect. There was not a single doubt in his mind that this was going to be fun.
-
Misa burst into the area, gasping for breath just in time. "Hi!... not.... late... am I?" She asked, putting her hands on her knees and trying to catch her breath. Once she had, she looked around at the others gathered there. They looked pretty fun to work with. She knew that this was going to be a great team.
-
Looking up over his lit cigar, Oberon nodded his head slightly to Damien and Salina as they made their way to the meeting spot. Activating his semblance, he "pinned" each of them one by one and watched as they glowed a soft, light orange color. "Good mo... he started, but was immediately interrupted by a loud voice singing as he came into view. Arching an eyebrow at the newcomer, Oberon let out a soft sigh before continuing. "Good morning to you as well, Conner and Salina" he said, looking at them briefly. "So glad of you to join us Axus and thank you for the loud greeting...I'm sure every person and every Grimm within a ten mile radius heard that." Using his semblance on Axus as well, he watched as the lad glowed a light orange as well, though he noticed a small tinge of blue mixed in with it. Let's just hope he doesn't end up dead like many others who came before him with the same kind of optimism... he thought as he let out a puff of smoke. Just as he had finished addressing the three students, the final student made her way into the area. "You're just on time, Misa. Please join the others" he replied over the smoke as she too started to glow for Oberon's eyes alone as he "pinned" her as well.
With the four students here, Oberon moved so that he could stand before each of them. "With all of you here, we can begin now. For those of you who may not know me, my name is Professor Oberon Falcov and I am the Team Strategy teacher here at Beacon. Now that I've got my introduction out of the way, let's get to the mission at hand, shall we?" Taking a puff from his cigar, he watched the smoke dissipate before continuing. "Your mission is simple today: you have each been selected to form Team Sundown. Here, you will go into the Emerald Forest and head to the Northeast where we have been informed that there is a Beringel that is causing havoc and rousing up the other nearby Grimm. Your mission today is to eliminate the Beringel as well as quell the other Grimm that are in the area."
Walking up to Salina, Oberon handed her a flare gun as well as a few flares. "Once your mission has been completed, you will shoot the green flare into the air, indicating that it is completed. From there, we will send an airship in to get you out of there. If you run into too much trouble to the point that you cannot fulfill your mission, then you are to shoot the red flare and help will come in to get you guys out of there." Letting the information sink in for a moment, Oberon took a sip from his canteen before continuing. "You will have all day to complete this mission. Now remember..." he began, giving each of them a hard stare. "This mission is all about teamwork and how well each of you work together." Letting his eyes fall on Misa, he paused for a moment before moving on. "Each of you are able bodied individuals, but if you think your skills alone will finish this mission, then you're sorely mistaken." Looking at Axus with a stern gaze, he took a puff from his cigar. "Should I hear that one of you jeopardized either yourself or your teammate's lives, then you will have something even greater to fear than a couple groups of Grimm." Moving his gaze onto Damien, he took one look at the lad before moving on. "Now, any questions before we start?"
-
Damien stood up and looked at the professor while making sure that his fine-tuning was optimal. He drew his rifle and proceeded to start loading, but stopped before he put the first round in. "Sir I do have one question. Do we have any restriction on munitions or armaments?" He waited for the answer to the question before he started to load the ammunition.
-
Arching an eyebrow at Damien's question for a moment, Oberon burst into a roar of laughter. Suppressing his mirth after a short moment, Oberon coughed a couple times before regaining his composure. "Forgive my laughter. That is a good question, but a rather odd one at that. For me to put a restriction on your ammunition and other weapons would be like me trying to tell the Grimm that they can't use their claws or fangs in a fight. By all means, use everything you have at your disposal. Your mission is to search and destroy the target. Do whatever you want to get that mission done." Clearing his throat, Oberon took a sip from his canteen. "Any other questions?"
-
Misa shook her head in response, just waiting to begin the mission. She couldn't think of any questions to ask, and she just wanted to get into the fray as soon as she could.
-
When Axus started to sing and chanting Hail to Vail to the group, Salina was startled for a moment but soon calmed down and giggled a bit when Professor Oberon made the comment to him chanting. After Professer Oberon explained the mission's objective Salina had no questions to ask, but instead nodded to let him know she understood the mission.
-
Axus had no such query. He understood the scenario from the moment the words left the teacher's lips. This was a hunt, and in a hunt all bets were off. It's kill or be killed and by the fractured moon in the sky it would be glorious either way. After all, they were training to become Hunters and Huntresses. He chuckled under his breath, amused by how fitting the assignment was. The smile on his face was the only indication one could ever need to tell that he was ready for the mission at hand.
-
As Damien's question was answered a small smile showed on his face fit for a sadist. He stowed his regular ammo and opened up the ammo compartment stored in his leg, revealing ammo with black casings etched with red scrollwork. He grabbed the ammo and loaded it into his rifle, a small chuckle leaving his lips as he did so. When he put the final round in he closed the storage on his leg and stood up.
-
Looking over at Damien as he began to switch out his ammo, Oberon smirked slightly. This should make for an interesting battle later... he thought as he took another sip from his canteen. Seeing that the others had no questions, Oberon cleared his throat. "Very well, without any other questions, you are all dismissed." Moving out to the side, Oberon gestured with his cigar to the entrance of the forest, letting the team know that they can go ahead. Taking a puff from his cigar, he blew the smoke into the cold morning air. All he could hope for was that this mission would be done quickly so he could get back to being with his wife and kids again.
-
Misa took a deep breath. It was time to focus now. From now on it would be a battle to stay alive, and a single mistake could cost her more than just her place at Beacon. Without further ado she made her way into the forest, wary of anything that may give away a lurking Grumm's location.
-
As they were all dismissed Salina was kind of nervous to go in but she was determined to pass this initiation. Salina took out her Clef and walked towards the entrance of the forest. Looking back at the group and taking a deep breath, Salina said "So I think we should gets this show on the road. Now who's with me." Trying to encourage everyone to go in and start this initiation.
-
Axus threw his head back and laughed, deeply and confidently, before speaking with conviction. "Then let us make haste my friends! We have been standing idle for too long, and it would be rude to keep Fate waiting any more. ha-ha... ONWARD!" With that final word he began to walk into the forest with no intention on waiting for anything. With a sword over his shoulder and a smile on his face he marched on, confidence pouring out of him like heat from a flame. This would be his greatest adventure to date, and it would be glorious!
-
Damien saw his more.....ambitious teammate take the lead. He sighed and looked at the one who was deemed the leader and looked at them. He knew where he was needed and holstered his rifle.
"Go on ahead boss. I'll take overwatch."
-
Seeing that everyone was engaged on going into the forest Salina felt confident that her team will do great. *giggle* "Yes, onwards we go." replying to the encouraging comment that Axus made. When Damien said he'll watch over Salina replied "Good idea, and keep your eye out for any movements of grimm." As she started to go into the forest Salina being right beside Misa she directed her team by saying "Okay, let's head northeast as Professor Oberon said that the grimm was last seen there. Be careful of your surrounds, the Beringel might've attracted the other grimms around." Saying with precaution so they don't get jumped in surprise.
-
Damien smirked and nodded as he put a clawed glove on his right hand. He walked over to a tree and climbed to the top. Damien started moving through the trees like he was one of the animals that live there, keeping pace with Axus, but taking small breaks to stop and keep an eye out for Grimm.
"I just hope that they can keep the Grimm off me when needed," Damien thought as he moved through the canopy
-
"Then the Winged Huntsmen arrived! da-da da da, da" Axus had begun to chant again, though this time softer and more to himself. His mind was eager to get to know his new team. "Coming down the mountainside! da-da da da, da" However, he initially opted not to ask questions. in his personal experience and opinion the best way to get to know someone is to observe them in combat. That said, he was rather excited at the prospect. "Then the Winged Huntsmen arrived! da-da da da, da" He mentally assessed his first impressions of his comrades. There was Damian the sniper; normally Axus saw snipers as cowards but the look on the cyborg's face when loading the red magazine suggested otherwise. "Coming down they turned the tide! da-da da da, da" There was Misa the shadow; her equipment implied stealth proficiency, another art Axus associated with cowards. Yet he saw a determined gleam in her eye, prompting him to not make conclusions. "Nevermores are coming down from the sky, Beasts of hate are you ready to die? We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye!" Then there was Salina, the giggling violinist/crossbowmen (crosbowwoman? crossbow... cat... person-DOSEN'T MATTER!) whom had been selected to be SNDW's leader. Axus refrained from making any judgments until he could observe her in combat, and that went for the rest of the team. All Axus could say for sure was that this was going to be fun.

OOC: Sorry I'm late. Haven't got a lot of time on my hands now.
Misa walked with the others towards their target. She had confidence in her team mates, they looked like they could handle themselves, even though some of them were a bit... strange. The singing one was getting on her nerves a little, but she didn't want to start off by making enemies so she tried to ignore it. And besides, maybe the enemies would be looking in his direction while she snuck up behind. She looked around. The forest provided plenty of opportunity for hiding, so she would be able to sneak up on any unsuspecting enemies relatively easily. This should be a walk in the park.
-
OOC: I didn't realize it was so long since anyone posted :o
Seeing her team’s motivation to pass this makes Salina is more confident and more trusting to them. Looking towards the Northeast with her teammates, Salina feels like she’s getting closer and closer towards their first battle of many they’ll have together. Even though her team is with her and giving her confidence, she’s still gripping onto her Clef tight to make her feel less nervous.
-
Damien kept his pace with the team while keeping watch for any Grimm. Just by looking at Axus, Damien could tell that he was capable to take care of himself, but he felt that he needed to watch his back. Even with whatever training he has, the most experienced fighter can even be overrun by sheer numbers."
Damien turns his eye to the rest of his team, he wanted to make sure that they had sufficient back up. "I just hope I can be of great help to this team."
Damien imitates an eagles call to show that he was there for his teammates.
(OOC: for those who don't know what an eagle sounds like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ2uMauyBow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ2uMauyBow))
-
Axus was getting antsy (for lack of a better word). He had ceased his merry chant and had brought it down to a low hum as they trekked deeper in the woods. When Damien let out his eagle call, Axus turned to what members of his new team he could see. The shadow and the archer (pronouns he has opted to use for Misa and Salina respectively) were keeping pace with raised guards. This gladdened Axus to see his team prepared. However, they appeared more on edge than on guard. Misa looked fine for the most part, but it is the nature of shadows to hide their true nature. He, again, would reserve all judgments and refused to make assumptions. After all, they had yet to have an actual conversation! A problem he could rectify noticing Salina.
"You know, holding weapons in vice grips effects accuracy." Without waiting for a response Axus snaps a low hanging branch from a passing tree and begins to sharpen one end with his knife. "What troubles you?" He asked, indicating that even though his hands were busy, he was still able to talk.

(OOC: Are we gonna wait for the mod to post now? Or shall I?)
-
OOC: I suppose I can post to progress the story a bit.
Watching the others through his semblance, Oberon observed as the others slowly made there way into the forest. From the way they were positioned, they looked adequately prepared if they were to suddenly get attacked by a group of Grimm. As if to answer his thoughts, he heard a distant howl coming from the area around where the team was. "Well, I guess it begins" he said softly as he continued to monitor the team.
As if attracted to the boisterous noises that Axus was making earlier, a loud howl was heard nearby where the team was located. Following up with it, a few smaller howls were heard as they drew closer to where the group was located.
-
While walking in the group, Axus noticed her hard grip and after asking her what's the problem Salina replied "Oh, guessed you noticed. Well this it's kinda nervous being a group leader for the first time and facing a Grimm as well. It's like performing on stage with an unknown band, you don't know how it’ll play out." Taking a deep breath and a little less grip on her weapon, Salina felt a bit at ease that she got it out of her system. “Thanks for asking I feel a bit more confident now.” But as soon as she said that Salina was surprised by the howling of Grimm in the distance. Adjusting her grip again to make it more comfortable and redirecting her focus to her team, Salina said “We’re here… Everyone get ready to move and attack.”
-
Hearing the sound of Grimm approaching Misa stopped where she was, trying to determine where they were coming from. She drew her weapon slowly, eyeing the dense treeline intently, waiting for the moment they would strike, focusing her mind.
-
Damien drew his rifle and kept looking out for Grimm. He took brief pauses only to keep an eye on his surroundings. It would be bad for him if he got caught outright by the infernal beasts. He flipped up the rear sight and positioned himself to where he would have overwatch on the whole team.
-
The first thing Axus did was smile. Hearing the first howl, he took his slightly sharpened stick in his left gauntlet, most of it's length behind his back with the beginnings of the point pointing down. Then, with his right hand, he drew his sword, reveling in the sweet sound if it leaving his scabbard. 'The violinist may have her music, I shall have mine.' He thought to himself as he took a stance. Resiste over his shoulder, ready for a powerful strike while his makeshift spear ready to counter anything that charged or otherwise lunged at him. In short, he was ready.
-
As the howling grew closer, two large beowolves appeared from the front of the group and went straight in to attack Damien, claws slashing straight towards his abdomen. As if to indicate the start of a fight, the rest of the pack closed in with four coming up from behind, five on the right side and six from the left. As the pack closed in, a loud howl was heard again, seemingly coming from the Alpha of the pack, as if it was giving commands to the rest.
OOC: Keeping it a short post to start the fight. I'll let you guys control the Grimm attacks as it'll be difficult for me to control all of them. I'll post to keep adding onto the mayhem and progress the story. Feel free to slaughter them as they're only Beowolves :)
-
Damien saw the Beowolf come at him and blocked its attack with his left arm. He aimed at the Beowolves center mass and fired, sending it towards another tree and to the ground. It never got another chance to move however as the back of its chest cavity bursted outwards the minute it hit the ground.
"How about we stop and smell the roses!" A small sadistic chuckle could be heard from Damien as that sentence left his lips.
-
Looking at the massive pack of beowolves came from all directions Salina used her Clef and started shooting the ones on the left side of the group. As she used her semblance to rapid fire the Grimm, Salina moved side to side to try and aim for parts of their body to slow them down. She was able to hit all of the beowolves and was able to tripped them over, causing a domino effect. Now the beowolves on the left side are piled up ontop of each other and trying to get back up while still being wounded by Salina's bolts.
-
As the Beowolves broke the treeline Misa was ready. She let them get close, and one swiped at her before she ducked under it, thrusting her dagger up through its jaw and killing it instantly. Dropping the quickly dissolving body she noticed another was gaining on her. A back flip put her just out of reach of the new wolf, as she activated her weapon's secondary form. She fired several shots into the wolf, before killing two others that were close behind it with clean shots to the heads. Noticing she was out of ammo and that there were still more approaching, she activated the weapon's grappling hook and shot up into the treeline above, where she was able to reload. She also used this opportunity to check on her allies, making sure they were handing the attack ok.
-
Axus took a step to the right of his team so as to intercept an incoming flank. As a beowolf leapt at him he raised his temporary spear at just the right angle. In nothing short of an instant the wolf found itself skewered at the neck. Axus used the momentum from its leap to slam the Grimm-kabob into a second beowolf like a mace. His "spear" broke apart on impact but it served its purpose, so he dropped it. From his shoulder, he brought his sword down on a third beast's head. It was more of a cleave that a cut but the thing was dead. His gantlet shifted to shield mode and he used it to bash a fourth monster's head upward. He the proceeded to stab the creature in the now exposed throat. A competitive smile never left his face as he analyzed the remainder of their foes. This was getting fun.
-
Damien looked at his surroundings, making sure to get a visual on his teammates. He saw a Beowolf 5 meters away from Misa's right flank. He aimed at the Beowolf and fired, hitting it center mass and causing the same effect that happened to the first one he shot. He let Misa know that he was okay and still watching by whistling like a songbird and firing at two Beowolves at Axus's right flack and Salina's left flank respectfully, each of them being within pounce distance from his teammates and with both of them having their spines blown out.
-
After Damien fired at the Beowolf on Salina's left flank she nodes to him to thank him. Looking at the pile of Beowolves on her side who were trying to get out of the pile, Salina fired 4 fire dust bolts straight into their skulls and lit them on fire. As the fire covered the pile you can hear the final howls of the Beowovles until they die and burn away. "My side is clear, how about you guys?" Salina asked her team as she sighed from the relief that her side is cleared.
-
Noticing that the Beowolf ranks had thinned noticably Misa heard a strange bird noise. She looked for the source and found Damien whistling. Misa decided she would finish off the last of the wolves nearby, before they were all eliminated by her team. She leaped down and ran into the ranks of the remaining Grimm, slashing several more to pieces with well aimed strikes.
-
Seeing as once his team finished their respective combos the current foes would be vanquished, Axus resorted to resting his sword on his shoulder and grinned. "All clear on my end!" he shouted back to his leader. While the confrontation itself wasn't the most riveting in Axus' experience the implications of what he observed were indeed exciting. The Archer (Salina) kept things mid-close range so as not to interfere with the Sniper (Damien), who had a very convincing bird call. That coupled with the high agility and maneuverability of the Shadow (Misa) and Axus' own ratio of melee reach, strength and durability, and what you get is a warrior team worthy of the record books. Axus made no attempt to keep his ambition in check as he imagined his new team, whom he still barely knew, standing back to back to back to back facing off against a sea of evil and he thought to himself: 'Challenge accepted'
