CHARACTER

Name: Anakatrina "Katri" Rihavein

Age: 18

Species and Gender: Female Jaguar Faunus

Symbol:

Occupation: Beacon Student, first year

Appearance: Katri has a lithe yet toned figure with some healthy, natural curves. She stands at 5 foot 4 inches tall and weighs in at 115lbs when stark naked. She has a healthy light olive skin tone, which is complimented with warm undertones. Her raven locks are left short and shaggy for convenience, while her upturned eyes are a brilliant amethyst in color that almost seems to shine in the dark. Katri's only noticeable Faunus trait is her elongated canines, which only peek out when she speaks or flashes a grin. A collection of intricately tattooed briers spans much of the right side of Katri's body, as well as stretches across her chest to her left shoulder.

The upper part of Katri's body is normally covered by a loose polyester tunic top, accompanied by simple fishnet gloves. For her lower body, she can normally be found sporting somewhat plain cargo pants that hide black knee-high stockings, while her feet are covered with steel-toed combat boots. On most days, she can also be found donning a fur-lined duffel coat, though it will only closed in colder climates.

As far as accessories are concerned, Katri generally has a pair of sports goggles resting on her forehead, while a simple gold choker is always wrapped tight around her throat. Depending on her mood, Katri may sport a gold anklet or two, even when they'll be hidden by her boots. Around her waist is a simple studded belt that holds a sheath for a standard-issue combat knife.

History: Katri is, at least to her knowledge, a born citizen in the Kingdom of Vale. Her parents consist of her mother, Sabrina, and the man she "affectionately" calls her sperm donor, considering she knows nothing about him. As far as she can tell, she takes after her mother in all ways except her skin tone and personality, so she considers herself quite lucky in that regard. The early years of her life were rather easy, all things considered - Vale is far from the worst place to grow up, even as an only child with a single mother.

Around the age of six, Katri began reading news articles related to the exploits of Hunters and Huntresses and decided that it was something she wanted to do when she grew up. It took a year or two to convince her mother to begin providing her with the resources to learn, though eventually she gave in. Katri quickly became a bookworm as a result, which is something that's carried on to her near-adult self.

From age eight to thirteen, Katri almost religiously practiced with a multitude of weapons until she stumbled across rapiers, and then within that she began the use of the first iteration of Synstylae. Along with that, she learned quite a lot about a multitude of Grimm species in order to know how to best combat them if the situation ever arose. Once she was of age to attend Signal, she was quick to enroll and began her adventure at school.

It was at Signal where Katri learned her semblance and began to tinker with its capabilities, which got her in to some trouble as she kept "borrowing" items from teachers without permission. She also got in to quite a few minor scuffles with other students... though she usually won through some underhanded tactics using chairs, desks, or doors. This had the unfortunate consequence of leaving her rather lonely, not that she minded all that much - after all, Beacon was the goal, she could make friends there.

Besides her few scuffles and a suspension or two, Katri's years at Signal went without major incident - no permanent damage to anything or anyone, things like that. Once her four years at Signal were over, however, Katri decided to take a gap year before heading off to Beacon - she needed to practice with her semblance on her own time, due to the school being relatively restrictive on what she could do with it on their grounds. After her gap year, Katri quite comfortably passed the entry requirements for Beacon and prepared to start her year there.

Personality: Katri is generally a confident woman, sometimes to the point of cockiness. Having a parent involved in her life as she grew up helped a lot with her behavior, though once out of her mother's eyes she did become a bit of a troublemaker. She's generally pretty comfortable around other people, though she would still prefer creating a tight-knit group of close friends rather than a large list of partial acquaintances. Katri is also far from body shy, feeling quite comfortable in her skin.

Most of her habits are borne from either her semblance or her aspirations to become a huntress. She's quite fond of keeping her body in shape and will run nearly every morning. During idle periods, Katri will nearly always have music playing. She's also somewhat fond of reading, and on lazy days or during small gap periods can often be found with her headphones around her ears and a book in front of her.

Katri can also cook to a decent standard, one of her mother's few demands when it came to her leaving their care to go to school. They had wanted to make sure she could feed herself if a situation ever arose while on a training mission, and since she had several years of practice in the kitchen it wasn't difficult for her to pick up. While she's somewhat comfortable cooking almost everything, her preference tends to be for breakfast foods regardless of the time of day.

Aura and Semblance:

Katri's semblance is something she calls Summoning Tags, which gives her the ability to 'tag' nearly any item or surface using a bit of her aura, allowing her to teleport objects either to her or to the marked surface at will. While the applications are nearly limitless, Katri has been unable to tap in to the true potential of her semblance and has aura, mass, and lifeform limits at her current age.

At her current skill level, Katri can mark around twenty objects or locations with relative ease, though at a hefty hit to her maximum aura. Her current mass limitations are roughly equivalent to half of her own weight per item, though there are ways she can bypass this limit with some trickery. One nifty feature of her semblance is that anything inside an object she has tagged also moves with the object - hence being able to transport luggage or her weapon chest with ease, instead of having to lug them around.

When going to tag an item, Katri can dictate where on the item the tag is placed as well as the duration the tag should remain for. A "permanent" tag takes around 5% of her max aura to maintain until she actively dismisses it, while a timed tag only takes an up front cost that will recover naturally over time - whether or not the timer has run out quite yet.

As best as she can tell, the range of Katri's semblance is limited to about a day's foot travel from the marked item or location. When she moves outside the range, the mark remains - including the missing aura. Additionally, she can still feel the tags, just not call upon them or dismiss to them - giving her reason to believe that as she ages and masters her abilities, the range will increase.

One of Katri's favorite applications of her semblance is to constantly summon and dismiss various weapons when sparring with other students, seeking to confuse them while also amusing herself. While there is a slight delay between dismissing and summoning, Katri has learned to adapt and use her agility and senses to minimize the risk to herself... though she still makes mistakes at times.

Katri's only permanent tags at this time are her weapon chest and Synstylae, though when she knows she's going to be sparring or out in the field she will apply a multitude of temporary tags on various weapons.

Combat Behavior: Katri's combat behavior almost appears random at first glance, and for the most part, it is. She constantly summons and dismisses weapons just as another student gets used to fighting against what she has in order to throw them off balance and confuse them. She's rather agile, a result of her morning runs along with general drive to become a Huntress making her quite fit - enabling her to do some clever things in combat should the situation require.

While she considers herself at least somewhat intelligent, Katri isn't much of a strategist - she tends to leave that for other people, especially since the way she fights is relatively unpredictable, at least in a sparring scenario. Against Grimm, however, Katri is more predictable - she almost only uses her rapier unless a bigger weapon is required for something they come across, simply out of comfort with the weapon.

In any combat, Katri depends on her Faunus senses to keep track of enemies - humans and other Faunus have unique scents, Grimm are generally visually obvious in anything they do, or at the very least loud. In the right situations, it's more than possible for someone take advantage of her senses when caught somewhat unprepared. Bright lights, loud noises, and overpowering smells can all throw her off balance and make it harder for her to adapt to various situations. Additionally, she's not much of a hand to hand or ranged fighter, though her semblance helps in a big way when it comes to avoiding hand to hand.

WEAPONS

Primary Weapon: Katri's favorite weapon is an ornate but lightweight rapier, and is her only weapon with multiple forms.

   Name: Synstylae

   Primary Form: A relatively standard rapier, the blade sits at 32 inches in length and is made of a carbon steel alloy with slight contents of tungsten and chromium. The hilt is wrapped in a purple leather, while the hand is protected by a basket stylized after a rose. The blade is slightly jagged in order to benefit the second form, though it does make the sword somewhat more difficult to use as a result.

   Secondary Form: The second form Synstylae has is a segmented whip, though Katri isn't quite as practiced with it as normal swordplay. The segmented form can create massive cuts in flesh of living creatures, though is most effective against Grimm, along with also finding its way under the armored plates of creatures such as a Beringel. Transforming in to this form increases the weapons range from just under 3 feet to around 30 feet, and is the only 'ranged' weapon that Katri is comfortable using in the field.

   History: Synstylae was the first weapon that Katri really connected with and felt comfortable using, though it was before she unlocked her semblance - and was originally only a rapier. The first form was quite natural for her to use and learn, almost like she was born to it, though the second form took some getting used to - something she worked on religiously when going to school at Signal. It was only shortly before arriving at Beacon that she felt comfortable enough to add the segmented whip to the weapon, and officially created the current form of the sword.

Secondary Weapon: The second weapon which Katri will normally use is a rather plain and replaceable longsword. While simple, the sword is rather strong, being made from carbon steel. The blade is hexagonal in shape, while the handle is wrapped in soft leather. The blade measures in at 39 inches, while the hilt is 7 inches. The entire sword weighs 3.3lbs.

Tertiary Weapon: A matching pair of slightly over-sized meat cleavers, which only come in to play when Katri feels the need to have two, slightly heavy weapons in her hand for defensive purposes. The reasoning behind them being cleavers is simply to confuse an enemy, as most people she's come across don't know how to fight against them like they might with normal swords. Each cleaver weighs roughly 4lbs, and measures at 22 inches including the handle. They are made from a more brittle, but heavier metal than her other primary weapons as she finds them easier to replace properly, and they're quite disposable.
