Title: Brooke Baker
Post by: FGLM001 on September 11, 2016, 01:37:01 PM
CHARACTER

Name: Brooke Baker

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Female Human

Symbol: A simple pink heart

Occupation: 1st year Beacon student

Appearance: Brooke stands at 5 foot 5 and is rather slim, weighing 125 pounds. She likes the color pink (a little too much) and dresses in a pink blouse, a pink skirt, and pink leggings. Her long dyed pink hair is usually held back by a pink headband. Her eyes are blue, but only because she finds color contacts extremely uncomfortable. Finally, she has a pink flower choker around her neck to hide the scar there.

The white parts of her Beacon uniform are dyed pink, which she explains away as having mixed them in the wash with reds. In reality, she just recolored it. Other than that she wears her uniform in pristine condition. For formal occasions, she has a pink dress that reaches her ankles.

History: Brooke was born to an ordinary family and would have lived an ordinary life if not for one unfortunate fact. She was born without vocal cords. Well, more precisely they were there but they didn't work. The without part came when a doctor messed up during a surgery to fix them and ended up damaging them so bad they had to be removed. Her parents tried to explain it to her when she learned enough to understand them but she didn't really get it. She was 6 before she realised she would never be able to speak or scream with joy as the other children did. She spent the coming years thinking that she was not going to be able to be anything or have any meaningful relationship since she could only speak through sign language, and not many people know it.  This all changed, however, when she saw a video of Cheri Chanson performing "The High Road". She loved music and quite often watched upcoming performers to see if they were good, and happened to be watching when Cheri appeared. She saw the meaning behind the song and it changed her life.

From then on Cheri became Brooke's idol. Brooke kept up with her (going to quite a few concerts) and as Cheri rose to stardom, so did Brooke's spirits. She got into writing lyrics, even though she couldn't sing, because she wanted to find a way to inspire others the same way. She finally found the way to do this and it was through becoming a Huntress. She could think of no better way to bring hope to the masses. She was too late to train at Signal, but, living in Vale, it wasn't too hard to find a teacher. After finishing training and passing the tests with average scores, she went to Beacon armed with a text-to-speech converter, hoping to meet her hero.

Personality: Brooke tries to be happy all the time, knowing that her worst enemy is depression. She likes pranks and jokes, but never mean ones. Participating in these pranks is not for her, but she will not hesitate to give ideas. She also enjoys showing her lyrics to people and will do so whenever the opportunity presents itself, annoying some people with how frequently she talks about them. The only times she breaks her happiness is when someone mentions how weirdly robotic her converter sounds or when combat starts (she will probably begin to cry if friends fight/argue). It doesn't take much to make her happy again, though. Just some kind words or a promise to stop fighting and, after a few moments, she is sunshine incarnate again. If sunshine was pink, that is.

Aura and Semblance: Her aura is, of course, pink and her semblance allows her to create an airblast strong enough to knock an average sized man 30 feet away by swinging her weapon. The airblast originates from her weapon, following the arc of it (I.e. If she swings vertically, it is a vertical, slightly curved, pillar of air). It is about 3 feet thick and has a range of 20 feet, upon which it dissipates completely instantly. The strength does not fade with distance, however. Once it hits something, it instantly fades. Each blast costs 5 percent aura.

Combat Behavior: When a fight breaks out, Brooke's usual happy demeanor leaves, being replaced by a grim look and determined eyes. Of course, sparring matches or competitions are different, she knows that those aren't bad. Even though she doesn't like fighting, she is still relatively good at it. She prefers to take a defensive approach, letting her opponent come to her where she waits for an opening and strikes. This usually involves putting Hope at the ready and Pinky perpendicular to her body, near her waist. This could leave her open to aggressive fighters and if she fights someone who is also defensive, it will go nowhere fast. She is proficient enough with Hope to throw it, but that is a last resort since she will most likely be unable to retrieve it until the fight is over. Without her shield, she focuses on dodging attacks more than deflecting them or parrying them with Pinky. She has basic hand-to-hand training but will more than likely lose against anyone else if forced to go this route.
