Appearance: Azrail is 5’11”, 120lbs, very pale-skinned, and quite slim. Clothing-wise, Azrail wears a long, black, hooded cloak which often casts a shadow over his face and his hair is chalk white. His eyes are blood red and often have a vacant look, but one can see an abundance of wisdom behind them when he is interested enough in what is happening around him. Under the cloak is a pair of black pants, a long-sleeved black shirt, a set of carbon fiber armor (greaves gauntlets and vest, all dyed black), and a pair of black boots. Azrail has few if any exceptions to this clothing style.
History: Azrail was on the road to destruction from the day he was born. His parents were petty dust thieves and after a few months they decided they couldn't afford to care for a baby. Azrail was homeless and abandoned at 8 months old. Azrail was found and taken in by an orphanage after a day of crawling around in an alley, but his growth was problematic. Azrail grew in the orphanage in Atlas and it was soon discovered that he did not socialize with the other children and they rarely tried to socialize with him. He would always wear black and that combined with his perpetual silence earned him the nickname Grim and a reputation for being unapproachable. As he grew, he talked less and less and drifted further and further from society. The children had all given up trying to hold a conversation with him and so he was shunned.
Azrail was admitted to school and passed with exceptional grades, marred only by the absence of friends or social interactions. Early into his time at the school, he was bullied by a group of kids who thought of him as easy prey. After a week of "incidents", Azrail snapped for the first, and so far, last time. The school found the bullies cowering in a corner and Azrail's semblance unlocked. The semblance saved him from the bullies, but also distanced him further from his classmates. People saw what he had done to the bullies and started shunning him even more out of fear. His problem speaking with people and generally being around them got worse and he turned to martial arts and semblance training to fill the time which most would use for socializing. Despite the avoidance problem increasing in severity, Azrail continued through school unhindered. Here he developed his clothing style and built his weapon, ironically, to fit the nicknames he received from the people who shunned him. About halfway through his primary schooling, Azrail was close to making a friend, but that person abandoned him after a few unsuccessful tries at getting him to become friends with more people, which further contributed to Azrail's reclusive nature. Despite being on the verge of graduating, during the last semester of his last year of school, he left with no clear reason. No note, no paperwork, no parents. He walked away and into the world he had decided to explore.
Azrail had a knack for learning through observation, and it served him well as he rarely participated in anything. He roamed from town to town, never staying in one place for more than a day. He moved quickly, traversing most of the known settled areas of the world in 13 months. On his travels he accumulated many different names in many different languages. During this experience he cast aside the name given to him by the orphanage and chose his favorites out of the names he had received during his travels, naming himself Azrail Duivel Kind. Days after arriving in Vale, Azrail applied to Beacon, passing the entrance exam without trouble.
During Azrail’s 1st year at beacon, he made a few friends and opened up a bit more to social interaction. He continued training his martial arts, weapon skills, and semblance usage during his time off, but less than previous years due to the presence of said friends. Azrail continued to do well in class, and finished the 1st year successfully. Azrail spent the summer revisiting some of the settlements around Vale he had passed though while travelling and he returned to beacon ready to continue his education and training for his 2nd year. During this year, Azrail gained the 6th sense function to his aura and learned a new technique with his semblance while also replacing his old leather armor for lighter and stronger carbon fiber versions. Near the end of his 2nd year, though, Azrail set out on a search for an elusive entity he was unable to identify or track down. He has since encountered the entity, a creature called t17, and the thing put him in the hospital with a series of lacerations and two snapped Achilles tendons. He is currently relegated to a hospital bed and once he is released from the hospital, he will be stuck in a wheelchair for about 5 months.
Personality: Azrail is, most of the time, a social shadow. He draws as little attention as possible while observing and learning from the things around him. He does not speak very much and when he does it is either cryptic and very brief or well-articulated and of longer length. He has developed a lot of wisdom from seeing so much, but few people notice it due to his reclusiveness. Azrail is very introverted, to the point at which, sometimes, he seems to reside more in his own head than the real world. His motivations and goals are an enigma, and over the years he has inadvertently learned to read people based on body language and facial expression (he's good at telling when someone is lying or is trying to hide nervousness etc.). Azrail despises arrogance and has trouble dealing with people who are lacking in the wisdom department, but he will try to be at least on a neutral social standing with people since he dislikes having enemies. When Azrail gets irritated or angry, black lightning starts running up and down his body with a high concentration on his forearms.
Azrail is intimidating, both in and out of combat, which can work to his advantage sometimes, but mostly just keeps people from approaching him. It is also nearly impossible to startle, scare, or faze Azrail at all. Azrail is extremely difficult to socialize with which causes him to have few friends if any, and he has a tendency to avoid seeking out help (if he has a debilitating injury or he can't figure out a work problem for school he will be extremely reluctant to seek out treatment or assistance respectively), even if he really needs it.
Warning, do not read the spoiler unless you are a mod or good at not metagaming because chances are none of your characters know of this.
[Spoiler]
Azrail has had brushes with insanity and has an unhealthy compulsion to kill that would allow him to be legally a psychopath. At the same time he is aware of his mental condition and doesn't want to hurt the people around him. He can only hold back his compulsion for a week at most before he loses control and murders the nearest living thing. He chose to be a huntsman because it allows him to appease his murderous tendencies by killing grimm and keeps him from being thrown in a rubber room in a straitjacket. He is so good at hiding this through his avoidance of social interaction that he has kept it hidden from everyone (with the exception of the few to whom he might reveal it on this forum).
