It was another day in the life of the Beacon students, classes where in progress while others where done for the day, and others still where setting up for their next bunch of students. The bell rang and all of the classmates got up and set out for their next class or whatever they where doing, Kale was among them walking to an empty classroom she knew no one would be there and she needed to get away from the crowds for a minute.

Teddy was having an exceptionally shitty day. He got back to the dorms at 3 after work, slept through his alarm, and got chewed out by professor Nox for showing up late. "Man, I really need to rework my schedule. Mac can't be working me this much during school." he said, rubbing his eyes as he sat on the teacher's desk.
A noise from the other side of the room made him jump. With his nerves frayed as it is, he ducked down behind the teacher's desk, his breathing picking up a bit. He ducked down so that whoever entered the room hopefully couldn't see him. He felt his ears stick up through his hair, and put his hand on his head to smooth them down.

Kale opened the door and walked in taking a deep breath. She walked down three rows of student desks before setting her books and newly acquired homework down and laying down on the desk.
She relaxed a bit then realized that she was not alone, she showed no signs of knowing that someone was in the room with her, instead she acted calm and relaxed while her mind raced wondering who the hell would be here at this time.

Teddy continued to sit there, motionless except for his heavy breathing. He waited, listening in for the sound of another person in the room. When he heard nothing, he slowly turned around, trying to peek out from under the teacher's desk. Unfortunately for him, he did not remember that those desks have a lip at the top. He smacked the top of his head on the desk, falling back onto his rear. "Owch." he said, rubbing his head.

Kale's hand was quick to reach her boot knife as she pulled the knife out she rolled back so she was now kneeling with the knife at the ready should whoever it was attack her. She waited for a second before calmly saying "You can come out now.", her voice didn't betray the fact that she was tense as hell.

Teddy would slowly peek his head out from behind the desk, seeing a knife-wielding fox faunus telling him to come out. He tried valiantly to get anything coherent to come out of his mouth, but he just couldn't. All he could do was shake his head quickly with a startled expression on his face.

After seeing how scared this kid looked she relaxed a bit and put her knife back in its sheath inside her boot, then she sat on the desk and said "Sorry you just startled me, come on out I'm not going to hurt you.", she waited for him to move or talk, as she sat there she looked calm but her eyes and ears where waiting for any sign of attack.

Teddy slowly moved out from behind the desk, his ears peeking 9ut through his hair. "I-I'm sorry." he said, standing behind the desk with his hands behind his back. He was rather bashful, nervous about disturbing this new knife-wielding fox.

Kale laughed and said "Don't be sorry it happens to everyone.", she hopped off the desk and walked towards him her tail swishing behind her. She reached her hand out for him to shake and said "My name is Kale, and you are?", even with her friendly demeanor she was ready for whatever he would do.

Teddy hesitated for a second before shaking her hand. He quickly pulled back, putting his hand in the pouch on his hoodie. "I'm, uh, Teddy." he said, giving a small smile. "S-Sorry about everything, I've just been a bit...nervous lately." he said, his smile dropping a bit.

Kale chuckled and asked jokingly "Are you sure that's your name? You don't seem so sure.", she patted his shoulder and said "Don't worry about it Teddy everyone gets stressed every now and again.", then it dawned on her and she asked "What where you doing in here anyway?"

Teddy deflated somewhat at this question, as he really didn't want to explain. "Well, the thing is...Professor Nox gave us an essay, and I got it done, and started working on other things. Then work caught up to me, and I had to do like four things at the same time, and I wasn't paying attention, and I didn't have time to double check and I...I...um..." he said, talking faster and faster until he just stopped to take a breath. "I put something I wasn't supposed to as one of the pages of the essay by accident, and I was trying to replace it." he said, his ears drooping on his head.

This peaked her interest "Calm down Tedy it's fine I did the same thing more then once my first year so don't let me stop you from it. If you don't mind me asking what ended up in the essay?", she wanted to know but not totally embarrass Teddy so she left the choice up to him.

Teddy tapped the ground with his foot, mentally trying to figure out if telling her would be good or not. "I-It's a....l-letter from my mom. It has some stuff on there I don't want anyone to see." he said sadly, his head dropping. His ears flopped out of his hair a bit as he gave a deep sigh. "It's just not been my day."

Kale wasn't sure but she thought he was lying to her but she couldn't tell since she had only just met him so she prodded a little bit "So what's going on with her, anything exciting?", she wanted to see his reaction to see if his story would fault under pressure.

Teddy looked up at her, rubbing the back of his head. "W-Well, the stuff going on with her is exactly the thing I don't want anyone to see. S-so...I-I can't say." he said, an embarrassed look on his face. "Um...c-could you help me find it?" he asked, looking to the side with a red face.

Kale rubbed her chin and said "Sure I'll help.", she walked over to the teachers desk and searched under the desk with her hand whispering "Where is it?", to herself.

Teddy walked up behind her, standing to her side as she looked for the paper. "I-I think they're in there." he said, pointing to one of the lower drawers on the desk. "B-But it's locked...and I don't want to break it."

Kale smirked and said "I know but that's not what I'm looking for.", as she finished talking there was an audible CLICK and the drawer popped open. Kale smiled and said "As I said before I have done this many times.", she pulled out the papers and set them on the desk, she gave half to Teddy and half for herself to look through.

Teddy was a bit surprised that she managed to get the drawer open with such ease. "Wow, uh...a-alright then." he said, quickly getting to work going through the papers. He had a nervous demeanor about him, above his normal awkwardness in being around a girl he's never met before. "I-I don't think it's in this one." he said, setting the stack down next to him.

Kale thumbed through a few of the papers and she said "Don't rush through take another look, but slower. And don't be so nervous Nox doesn't get back for another couple of hours.", the way Kale was holding the papers made it seem like she was reading a random persons paper but she was actually reading one from Azrail.

Teddy picked up the stack again, looking through it a bit more carefully, but he could tell which one was his, and none of these were. "H-Have you checked all of yours? I don't see mine in these." he said, looking up at her with wide eyes.

Kale's hands trembled a bit as she finished reading the paper, she set it down and flipped through the rest once she saw his she said "Here it is.", and handed it to him even though her hands shook slightly and her eyes teared a little.

Teddy quickly grabbed the paper out of her hands, holding it close to him. "Thankyouthankyouthankyou." he said, finally breathing a sigh of relief. He looked up to her, seeing the emotion in her eyes. "Um, a-are you alright, miss Kale?" he asked, his ears perking up on top of his head.

Kale smiled weakly and nodded while wiping her eyes "I'll be fine, you just hurry and get what you need out of you're paper so we can put the stuff back the way we found it.", she started piling the rest of the papers back into its original pile, well almost she put Azrail's in her back pocket and the rest went back.

Teddy flipped through the pages of his essay, quickly ripping out the letter and folding it. He put it in his back pocket as quickly as possible, trying to keep it out of sight of Kale. He then proceeded to put his essay back into the pile the way he found it, putting his half of the papers back in the drawer. "Alright, that's taken care of. Thanks for the help, miss." he said, sitting back on top of the desk.

Kale closed the drawer and said "Since I helped you maybe you could do something for me.", she smiled sweetly and batted her eyes at him a little as she stood back up.

Teddy looked up and blinked a few times. "Well, y-yeah. Sure. What do you need?" he said, fixing his hoodie. He stood up next to her, using the time to slip the letter under his chestpiece.

Kale look turned sly and she asked "Tell me what's really in that letter pleaseeeeee?", she was serious but her tone made it sound like she was begging him almost like a child begging for candy.

Teddy just closed his eyes and hung his head. "Just...p-please stop asking. I'm not going to tell you." he said with a sigh. "If it were information I would be willing to share, I wouldn't be bothered in getting it back."

Kale's smile grew bolder as she said "And that is exactly why it interests me.", she watched his expressions as she said "I mean its not like those are orders from the fang or anything.", she just had to make sure if it proved that she was wrong she would leave it be.

Teddy's face managed not to give away his apprehensiveness. This girl was inquiring way too much into him. He clenched his fists, where they disappeared into his sleeves, and tried to keep calm. "It's about my mom. And I don't want to talk about it. She has enough to deal with without me going around telling the world her problems." he said, looking up to her with pleading eyes.

Kale smiled and said "Fair enough I was just wondering if maybe that wasn't what you say.", she leaned against the board and changed the topic "So how long have you been at the school? I know a lot of the people here other then some of the first years."

Teddy sat on the desk, thankful to be off that topic of conversation. "I-I've only been here a week or so. Still trying to adjust to the new team and everything." he said, keeping his hands close to his chest. He started shivering. It was somewhat cold in the room.

Kale nodded and said "Well that explains why I didn't recognize you. So what do you do outside your schooling?" she noticed his shivering but made no attempt to help him alieviate it yet.

Teddy breathed into his hands, the chill of the room starting to get to him. Or maybe he was just nervous. Or both. "I work for my uncle as a bartender. Don't have a lot of free time outside of that." he said, looking up at the girl's ears as he talked. He seemed quite intrigued by them.

Kale smiled gently and said "Well that seems like it could be fun at times maybe I'll stop in sometime. Did you want to go walk around the school and find somewhere a bit warmer?", she noted his interest in her ears but made no comment of it.

Teddy looked down from her ears, blushing a bit as he realized he was staring. He nodded to her, hopping down from the desk. "W-Where are we gonna walk to?" he asked, still keeping his arms close to him for warmth.

Kale slightly pushed herself off of the board and said "I don't know, its warm outside and there are plenty of places to go relax and chat. We got the gardens, the library, out in the courtyard your pick really."

Teddy thought about the choices for a few seconds, tapping his foot as he thought. "I've never been to the gardens before. B-But I don't know how to get there so..." he said, his voice trailing off as he had to ask for her help once again.

Kale smiled and said "That's ok most people forget that the school even has a garden.", she walked up to him and grabbing his right arm said "I'll show you the way.", with no other prompts started waling out of the classroom pulling him along until he followed, she also made sure to grab her stuff as she passed it.

Teddy was a bit startled as she grabbed his arm and started leading him out of the classroom, but quickly tried to suppress his moment of fear. He followed her without saying much of anything, fearing his own words would betray his outward appearance of not flipping shit that a girl was holding onto him.

[Time skip]
As they approached the gardens Kale said "Don't be surprised if we are the only ones here.", she opened a glass door allowing a smell almost like that of a rainforest to waft out and Kale smiled pleasantly as she walked in making sure to hold the door for Teddy.

Teddy looked around the gardens, taking a deep breath of fresh air. He walked in after Kale, keeping close to her as she apparently wanted him to. He did not look in her direction specifically, because he worked out that at this proximity, the difference in heights would give him a rather inappropriate view. "At least it's warmer in here." he said with a small smile.

Kale laughed and said "It could be blistering cold out there and still be pleasantly warm in here.", she shut the door and walked further into the gardens pointing to some of the plants she said "They have to regulate the temperature in here since some of these plants come from the other continents like this one comes from my home in Vacuo.", she pointed to a small tan colored flower with what looked to be a barb sticking out of the middle.

Teddy walked with her, carefully examining the tan plant. "You're from Vacuo?" he asked, looking up at her with a smile. "My mom lives there. How is the weather over there?" he asked, both wanting to know and feigning a little ignorance. He had been over there with his mother for a little while, but he never got a general idea of the weather.

"Hot most of the time, Deadly the rest of it. Getting lost in a sandstorm or even stepping on a plant like that one counts for a good deal of deaths in Vacuo.", she said as she kept walking once she saw a bench she sat down saying "But the most important part is knowing your plants, since some parts of one are deadly to eat while other parts can save your life."

Teddy sat down next to her, keeping close. He had grown a lot more comfortable around her. "All that sand must get annoying. I think I would prefer the forests here to that. At least the forests are relaxi..." he said, interrupting himself with a yawn. After all that stress keeping him going, he really was quite tired.

Kale smiled again and said "It isn't so bad at times but I do prefer the forests here since my weapon maintenance goes way down.", she leaned back a bit acting like she was stretching looking at his pocket to see if she could spy the paper before going back to her original position.

Teddy's pocket did have his scroll in it, but the letter was nowhere to be found in there. Teddy rubbed his eyes, his exhaustion creeping up on him. "I know a lot of good camping spots around here. Uncle Mac will sometimes let me off on the weekends to go camping if he knows business will be slower." he said, relaxing into the bench as the serenity of the forest played in his mind.

"I love camping, maybe we should go some time.", she smiled as she saw him getting tired, trying to speed it up a little she started softly humming a lullaby that her mother sang to her as a kid.

"Yeah..." he said, feeling himself starting to doze off. He closed his eyes for a brief second, his head coming toward her shoulder. The second it made contact, his eyes burst open and he quickly stood up, shaking his head slightly. "I-I'm sorry, I think I'm feeling a bit tired...um...another time, maybe?" he said, trying to rub the sleep from his eyes so he could go back to his room.

Kale knew this would be one of her only chances to get the note so as his eyes shut and his head came down her hand slipped into his pocket and pulled out all of the contents as he shot up making it seem like his shooting off the bench caused his scroll to fly out. Kale stood up and slipping her hand into her pocket as she kneeled down to pick up his scroll and hand it to him, she smiled sweetly saying "Here you go, it's fine you look like you've had a long day but couldn't you stay for a little longer?"

Teddy looked over to Kale, smiling as he grabbed his scroll. "Um, thanks. I-I think I can only stay for a little bit, I need to sleep soon." he said, taking his place next to her again. He blinked a few times, trying to keep himself awake this time. He relaxed back into the bench, swaying a little as he tried to stay upright.

Kale smiled as she took the seat next to him and said "You know no one cares if you nap in here, I've been doing it for years, I find it more peaceful then the rooms at times.", she needed to find that note and fast before she would be forced to open a topic she had avoided for fear he might flip out at her, but she would use it as a last resort if need be.

Teddy could only nod weakly at this. He closed his eyes, his head falling against her shoulder as he fell asleep. A small thunk could be heard behind him as the letter fell from under his chestpiece. He slept against her, his soft breathing the only sign that he was still alive.

Kale smiled as his head slumped against her and she heard something drop, she reached behind him and grabbed the note. Opening it she read it before taking a picture and sighing, she folded it up and put it back where it fell from while whispering to herself "It's a shame that such a sweet boy could get mixed up with them.", she put her scroll away and pulled out a book to read while she waited for him to wake back up.

It was a good half an hour before Teddy finally woke back up from his nap, blinking a few times as he looked up at Kale. He then proceeded to go wide-eyed, reeling backwards so hard he fell straight off the bench, landing on his back. "I-I'msorryIdidn'tmeantoandIwastiredandyoutoldmenottoleaveandpleasedon'thurtme." he said in one breath, backing against a potted plant on the ground. The letter was right next to him, seemingly knocked out when he fell off the bench. He quickly grabbed it, sliding it back under his chestpiece.

Kale looked at him and smiled "It's fine, as I said it was fine.", she closed her book and stretched, she stood up and walked over to him giving him a hand up.
