A brisk wind blew outside the airfield the sun shown through thick grey clouds, alongside the sound of the wind was two airships being readied for take off. It was hard to make out from a distance but a group of eight people stood out side armed to the teeth and ready for anything that would be thrown their way... at least that's what they hoped.
Kale stood at the open door of one of the transport ship and called everyone over, once they gathered around she said loud enough for all of them to hear "Ok we're all here and now that I know none of this will be leaked off messages, I can tell you what we are looking for and why this is so dangerous, we are searching for the t17, in other words a killing robot gone wrong and has since killed people including one of my friends, Azrail. I have no idea of its intelligence or weaponry, that's part of what we need to find out were starting in some of the smaller villages to investigate any disruptions a lot of them probably just Grimm or raiders but we just need to see if it has left the city, if you have any questions ask Obadia or myself now let's roll.", with that she got on the airship with her team while Obadia did the same.
-
As Kale spoke, Cordelia fidgeted with her bow string. She listened intently and pulled up a map on her goggles of the area in question. She let out a sigh as soon as the speech ended. "Grimm, Raiders, and a mad killing robot. This better count towards extra credit..." she thought out loud as she got to her seat.
-
Argus smirked as Cordelia said this, but said nothing to her. While getting into his seat, he asked Kayle, "So this friend of yours, did it look like he was killed from short or long range? As in, was the weapon a bullet, a club, a sword, a wood chipper...?" As he spoke, he made sure everything was in order with Onlooker, checking that both ammo clips and the Dust cartridges were all installed and full. No mistakes, no gruesome death.
-
Talen yawned after getting on after Cordelia, having tagged along on the mission to be a front-line fighter if needed. They accompanied their classmate Kale and a much older huntsman, probably around his fifties to hunt some sort of stray robot of unknown origins. For some reason they got the name but the specifics were in the dark, so much for preparing in advance. Luckily Talen never did rely on tactics too much and with Cordelia and two others she'd be fine. Probably.
"What he said, Talen added, "I mean unless there wasn't a body and all you have to go by is some old memento. Like out of a movie!
-
Kale looked at Argus and said "He hung himself in the hospital not ten minutes after I came and visited him, as for his wounds I never saw them, hence the need for us to go get more information about it and anyone involved.", she walked to the pilot and told them to head to the first village in need of assistance and took her seat before saying "If you have any other questions I'll answer them to the best of my abilities."
-
Argus sheathed Onlooker and replied, "My condolences. Shame nobody could talk the kid out of it." After a pause, he continued, "So you mentioned we have no idea what this thing can do; what do we know? If it's a killer robot, then it follows that the Atlas military would be the first people to talk to; do they not know anything either?"
-
Cordelia looked at Kale with concerned eyes. "He hung himself?" She thought to herself. ""what couldve caused that?..."
-
Talen got the shivers. A murderous robot and a kid hanging himself? Sounded too much like a horror story. Instead of offering any reply Talen just smiled nervously and scooted closer to Cordelia. Grasping one hand with hers while leaning her head on her shoulder.
-
Kale sighed and avoided the topic of Azrail instead saying "As far as I know t17 was a privately funded group, that would be the only way to bypass all the bullshit they would normally have to go through.", she took a second as the airship started taking off and waited for it to quiet down a bit before going on "But as I said we know next to nothing about it. Hell its last known location was in the city of Vale, the only reason we are checking the viliges is to make sure it didn't leave, and any other information is bonus."
-
Argus nodded in understanding. "Considering that, we probably don't want the public to know about this yet, so that means we need a reason to be out in the villages. I'm thinking the story is that Grimm raids have been getting more frequent around the villages, so we're there to make sure their defenses are adequate and to protect against any Grimm attacks that occur. Sound good?"
-
"Sounds good. Less of a panic means for us to hide in plain sight as well if this thing decides to attack." She nodded and squeezed Talen's hand in assurance. "You got this Talen." she said to her friend with a smile. She continued. "If we get a general idea that its in the area we act natural, make sure it doesn't know we're after it. Once it attacks, IF it attacks, we can then deal with it."
-
"Sounds good to me too. Talen said, trusting the words of both her best friend and the much older man. With a veteran huntsman like him around she was sure nothing would go wrong. Hopefully.
-
Argus shakes his head. "Hate to rain on your parade, kid, but we shouldn't engage it head-on as soon as we see it. It's already killed people, and nobody wants more Beacon students hurt or dead. If it shows up, we should mainly run recon the first time, maybe hit it a few times to see what it's made of. Once we know what it can do, then we make a plan to take it down, yeah?"
-
Kale shook her head at all of them as they talked until Argus made the comment of hitting it a few times she barked out "NO! No one will be "hitting it" at all even if we do chance an encounter with it, I don't care how experienced you are if you see t17 then you are hiding or observing... from a very great distance., she sat back in her seat and let her head hit the hull with an audible THUD!
She sat there silent for a few seconds before saying "It's already going to be like finding a Grimm who won't straight up attack you on sight, but if t17 even gets suspicious that we are actively searching for it then I can guarantee that any and all leads will go cold.", she looked over the list of villages that she had amassed before saying "We are going to villages that have reported disturbances, both Grimm raid attacks and just some people getting spooked, the reason for this is simple; first it makes it look like we are just students shadowing a huntsman, second in doing small favors like this we can maybe get some people to trust us and possibly give us something on t17, and third doing this makes sure that t17 hasn't left Vale so we can narrow our search. I set it up so we have an inner ring of villages and the other team has the ones a bit further out giving us the best chance at finding out if it left at all.
-
Argus put up a hand to calm Kale down when she started yelling. "Easy; you're going to hurt this blind old man's ears, and then how will I get around?" Despite the somber words, he had a wry grin on his face, and seeing the size of the cannon on his back, it's a safe bet that he's used to loud noises. "Students shadowing a huntsman sounds fine. Now, if T17 is as smart as you're saying it is, I'm not sure we'll be able to stop it from figuring out it's being looked for. What we need is bait; maybe not for a conventional trap, but at least so we can get a good look at it. Any ideas?"
-
Cordelia sighed to herself. "At least I got the distance part down." she reassured herself. She looked at Talen at the sound of bait. "Talen and I have done recon missions before where she had to draw stuff out. Maybe Talen can be the bait? And Im a long range fighter. With these goggles, I can see quite far as well as tag something so I can track it for a while."
-
Talen gave a brisk nod, affirming the idea. "If anyone needs to act as the bait I'll do it. She said, her expression confident but kind. "Just make sure you got a plan in place if that's what we're going to do. I'm not sure how long I'll last against this supposed death machine but I will last longer than most people.
-
Argus chuckled softly at the kids' enthusiasm, which would surely bring them either great renown or a swift death. "I was thinking of something more along the lines of a decoy, like these." The silver of his eyes glowed softly for a moment, and suddenly there were three more copies of Argus, standing in various places on the ship. "I would use these, but I feel like T17 would catch on pretty quick that they aren't real."
-
Kale scratched her chin for a second and asked "What's your range with those? Cause I'm more inclined to use those if I can guarantee you would be safe, but like I said before I'd rather not test t17 until we have the whole group together, I would like Obadia to be present when we take the first pot shots so he can analize the thing for some form of weekness.", she decided to try and not worry so much but with the first years basically asking to line up in front of a firing squad it proved quite the challenge.
-
"They'll look real out to about a half-mile," replied Argus. "Past that, I can still see through them, but they'll be twisting, flickering... basically any idiot could tell they're not real. Around a mile out, they just pop and disappear." His eyes glowed again and the images disappeared. "Thing is, they have no substance. I could make them dodge whatever T17 throws at them, but as soon as it lands a hit, it'll know they're not real."
-
"That means live bait would definitely be our only choice. Talen added, "Of course we could have you be the bait, try to lose the thing then have it chase a clone but we have no idea how smart this thing is.
-
"I mean, I don't ever have to get near it; I don't know how much you know about me, but these are how I see." An illusion appeared across the aisle of the ship from Argus, looking at everyone. "I see and hear everything the illusion does, just like if I was there. Pretty sure I wouldn't have lasted very long against Grimm without that little trick. Anyway, I can use these to scout for T17 and observe it; I was just saying that if it attacks one, it'll know they aren't real."
-
"And once it realizes its a fake, I assume it will learn and be very aware of your semblance." Cordelia chimed in."Either way, its the best plan we got. How long til landing?"
-
Listening to them plan gave Kale the insight she needed to get an idea, so she chimed in "Well IF we see him before we have both teams together then I say Argus should start out by surveying it with a clone, keep within the distance needed to keep the image real and dodge any attacks making note of its style while the rest of us watch near where you get posted up in case it turns on you.", as Cordelia asked about landing Kale said "Not much longer we're coming up on the first village soon, but after this village we are heading out on foot."
-
Argus nodded and replied, "Yeah, I can handle that. Like I said, I don't need to be anywhere near it; they look real out to a half-mile. Once we land, I'll send out five of them and have a look around."
-
"Surely beats having to brawl with it. Talen muttered, craning her head over to the window side to take a peak down below. "Hmm...think it's gonna be cold outside?
-
Argus shrugged and replied, "Maybe. I guess we'll see."
-
Cordelia sighed. "Told you to bring a jacket." she murmured over to her friend. She pulled out her scroll and began to read.
-
(It occurs to me to ask, how much do we all know about each other? Do we assume that we introduced ourselves before boarding the airship, or have we never met aside from Talen/Cordelia?)
-
(OOC: Unless you have met the characters before this the only thing you would know is what you hear/are told, so names and what they look like)
Kale smiled "None of the villages and surrounding areas should be overly cold, but if nothing else I have some lien you can use for a coat if it gets too bad.", as they talked amongst themselves the aircraft landed and the door opened to their first location a village with a Grimm population problem.
-
Argus got up and walked out of the craft; as his boots touched the ground, four of his shadows formed around him and sprinted into the surrounding wilderness. "Now then, let's see what we can see."
(So where are we? I've seen how the show always has forest for wilderness, but is that true for all of Vale? Is it all just cities surrounded by forest, or are there other landscapes as well?)
-
"Oh, I didn't ask because I was worried, Talen replied, smiling widely at the group's concern. "I love the cold! I wonder if it snows around here...
Hopping off after the veteran huntsman Talen stretched her arms upwards while ruffling her hair a bit to fix it up later with her fingers, several of them combing the bangs in front of her face while she regarded the area.
-
Cordelia followed Talen as she put her scroll away. She hefted her bow over her shoulder and crossed her arms, looking at the scenery of the village. She was also making sure she acknowledged all the high spots for her to go if needed.
-
(OOC: For now the villages will be pretty standard like most of the ones we've seen in season four, since they aren't to far from the other team if the area may look similar.)
Stepping from the ship Kale observed the lightly forested village with a few children running around trying to catch a grey and white cat. She didn't like the surroundings too much with vary little elevation the highest someone could get from here was either the tree tops or the one rickety looking guard tower that peaked at maybe five to ten feet taller then any of the trees, to the north and west the mountain ranges could be seen not as hazey shapes but as looming giants. Kale sighed and could tell this was going to be a long day but then again she knew that when she posted the mission in the first place "Now guys this village doesn't trust strangers on account of bandits and the grimm they bring so don't freak out if they don't open up to us right away."
-
"Long as they don't get in our way, I'm fine with that." Argus focused and another shadow, this time of himself with a featureless steel mask over his entire face, manifested in front of him and looked around. "Huh. Nice little place. Not much elevation, though."
-
"Villages are always nostalgic. Now, where should we go first?
-
Cordelia adjusted her googles over her eyes. "Would be best to communicate with the head of the village."
-
"That's probably a good call. I'll stay here and explore with my shadows a bit, see if I can find any tracks that aren't human or Grimm." Argus sat down in the grass and started meditating; after about a minute, two more shadows appeared and ran into the forest.
-
A small group of villagers had stopped going about their business to stare at the newcomers. It wasn't a pleasant welcome party, though. All throughout the small crowd, knees were bent in anticipation. Hands hovered close to sheathed swords and holstered guns in a sort of passive hostility. One of the villagers stepped forwards and seemed to speak for everyone that had gathered there, "What business have y'all city types got out here?"
-
Kale walked up to the villager and with a calm tone in her voice said "We're students from Beacon academy, here with Argos the huntsmen to deal with the Grimm problem those bandits have brought to your doorstep.", she handed her scroll to the villager with their mission description on screen.
-
Argus stood and walked over to the others, dropping three of his illusions and making a small transparent one over his mask so he could see. Scowling, he looked the villagers over and said, "Put those away, son. We're here to get rid of the Grimm, not attract more."
-
The villager took the scroll and looked over the mission request. "Well I'll be, you actually showed up! That bein' the case, I figure we could use your help at the watchtower," he said, and then pointed to a wooden tower structure in the center of the village while handing Kale back her scroll. As his gaze returned to the group his eyes rested on Argus. "If'n you weren't informed, a good half the people walkin' into this town in the past month have wanted to rob us of our Lien and our lives, so pardon me if we seem a little cautious."
(FYI their weapons aren't drawn, but they look like they could be at any moment)
-
(Yeah, I was saying to put away their hands, which are on their weapons.)
Argus grunted and looked up at the watchtower. A moment later, a shadow materialized at the top and surveyed the surrounding area.
-
Talen's eyes darted between the villager and the veteran, a nervous sweat dripping down the side of her face as she awkwardly wondered what was going to happen. Thankfully the tension died down a bit and she finally remembered that she had to breathe, gasping for air the next second while awkwardly shuffling behind Cordelia to hide her embarrassment.
-
As Argus' shadow appeared at the top of the tower, the old man that had already been sitting there fell backwards in surprise and yelled, "Can't a man get some goddamn peace once in a while!"
The villager speaking to the group chuckled when he heard the man and said, "You'll be workin' with old man Suthers. He's been doin' the watchtower job for forty years, but he won't admit that his eyesight's going bad." He then turned back to the rest of the villagers and said, "Alright, fun's over, everyone back to your posts." The crowd dispersed, leaving the students and Argus alone.
Argus' shadow sees forest of varying density in all directions. Nothing really stands out and there doesn't seem to be any noticeably raised ground.
-
"No high ground anywhere I can see," said Argus to the others. "If we want it, it's going to have to be on buildings. There's also forest everywhere; my shadows might take a while to search all that."
-
Cordelia sighed. "This is gonna be a long day." She eyed her surroundings once more. "Might as well head to the watchtower. At least Ill get a good view and hopefully some peace to finish my homework..." She smiled at Talen. "What are you going to do?"
-
(OOC: Ok so something to mention when out of combat it's fine if people have conversations but try and keep it fairly short, but when we get into combat stick to the posting order(the order of your first posts) idk how much RP you've done Mortos but that's generally how things roll around here otherwise things get hectic)
Kale took her scroll back and pocketed it, before doing anything else she turned to Cordelia and Talen saying "Do what you guys want for now but see if you can get anything out of the villagers, I'm going to talk with the old man to see what he knows, when we're done here meet up at Argos's body.", without waiting she turned and climbed up the watchtower and seeing the view took her back a bit albeit a less spectacular sight.
She shook her head and focused addressing Argos first she said "Hey Argos, scout out a mile radius for me I want you to know as much as you can within a mile before we head out.", then turning to the old man Kale sat down next to him and asked "So Mr. Suthers what can you tell me about what's going on here? I know the basics but I would like to hear what you have to add to it.
-
Talen nodded at Kale and gave Cordelia a wondering glance. The village seemed to be just like any other with no particularly interesting things to take note of, well not that Talen would care about stuff like that. Shrugging at Cordelia she started wandering around the village grounds in search of something to do.
-
(Thanks for the heads-up; I've done plenty of RP, but usually with a formal rule system like D&D or Shadowrun. I'm still unaccustomed to something as freeform as this.)
Argus snorted. "My body? I'm not dead when I'm doing this kid." The shadow on the tower flickered and disappeared, and two more appeared near Argus and ran into the forest to join the other six.
-
Suthers had gotten his bearings and returned to a sitting position by the time Kale reached him. "You wondering what's going on here? I'll tell you what's going on here! I'm being shunned by everyone just because I saw what killed my livestock! Bunch of damned cowards, they are. Eh, but who wants to hear the ramblings of an old man? I take it ya'll are the help we requested? Then you take watch and I'll get some shuteye," he said and then propped himself up in the corner of the watchtower and started to doze off.
As Talen wandered around the village, some villagers who seemed to be repairing an animal pen, called out to her, "Hey, you there! If you're not gonna be on watch, come help us out here!"
-
Kale looked at the huntsman before he disappeared then turning to the old man she wondered why she even tried talking with him but reserved her words and started keeping watch. After watching for a while she started enjoying the scenery as she stood there waiting for something or someone too show up.
-
(OOC: Argus isn't gone; he's just sitting in the grass about 20 feet away from Kale and the others. He's manifesting 8 shadows right now, though, which are scouting the forest.)

(OOC: I know but I was referring to the shadow that was standing next to her... that's what she stared at not Argus himself)
-
(Ah, got it.)
-
"Wait a minute, what did you say?" Argus stands and goes over to Suthers before the farmer manages to doze off. "What killed your livestock?"
-
About the time Talen wandered off, Cordelia was making her way around the watchtower. Obviously she left her comms on to overhear her current team. She giggled at the man yelling at Talen but was quickly distracted by the question of the livestock. She stopped in her tracks and listened closely.
-
Talen's ears twitched as she heard someone calling for her and she promptly walked over with a bright smile on her face. Looking at the broken animal pen she wondered whether this was connected to the attacks too.
"Hmm? What happened here? She asked, hoping to get more information. Though helping a bunch of villagers catch animals or repair a pen didn't seem to be either.
-
"Wait a minute, what did you say?" Argus stands and goes over to Suthers before the farmer manages to doze off. "What killed your livestock?"
"Wha- You really want to know? No one in this village believes me, but I seen a big ball o' spikes rip right into my barn. Damn thing killed my cow and three hens a'fore I could even git down there. I tried shootin' the thing, but I couldn't hit nothing that fast. It flew 'round that barn like a demon, killed everything in the damn place, and then took a dive into a hay bail and up and vanished!" Suthers explained with lots of emphatic hand-waving.

"Hmm? What happened here? She asked, hoping to get more information. Though helping a bunch of villagers catch animals or repair a pen didn't seem to be either.
"Well, a couple months back, something came through here. Was only around for 'bout four nights, but it killed every last one of our animals. Damn thing only attacked at night, an' soon as it ran outa' food, it disappeared. Anyway, we got some generous neighbors who're shipping us a new litter of piglets, and we've gotta fix some pens for em'. Now get over here and help out, or do you want to be paid?"
-
Argus frowned, but nodded. "Went into a hay bale, you said? Did you check under the bale to see where it went?"
-
Talen waves her hands vigorously in front of her at the mention of pay, quickly dismissing the notion of her needing money to help those in need. "N-no that won't be necessary. Talen said, approaching the pen to help while trying to see what the possible culprit was. "So, was there anything...off about that particular beast or whatever it was?
-
((Im assuming while you guys are off investigating, Cordelia is at the watchtower just keeping an eye on things ((Will also explain my lack of posting, sorry bout that. Very busy week and the new Zelda isnt helping either :P)) Let me know if things happen like outside of town that Cordelia can notice or whatever.))
-
(OOC: So dream as far as I can tell, Kale and Argos are both at the watchtower talking with old man Suthers, while Talen is talking with the people repairing the fence.)
Kale frowned at the huntsman but said nothing other than "I'm sure they looked under it unless of course no one believed you Mr. Suthers.", she left it open for Suthers to answer without feeling offended.
-

Kale frowned at the huntsman but said nothing other than "I'm sure they looked under it unless of course no one believed you Mr. Suthers.", she left it open for Suthers to answer without feeling offended.
"I meant for holes in the ground, kid," replied Argus. "If it went into a hay bale and disappeared, and barns have dirt floors, and it looked like a ball of spikes, it very well could have burrowed under the ground and escaped that way. That's why I'm asking."
-
Talen''s mind wandered off as the huntsman spoke with the younger villager and as the others went off to do their own things. Looking over thr cages Talen noted that this might be related to the rogue machine but had to do a bit more investigation before telling the others.
-
Cordelia yawned and chimed in her comms to Talen. "Anything interesting? Been walking around the watchtower's top floor and not a single disturbance." She looked out to the town. "It seems too quiet though..."
-
Argus frowned, but nodded. "Went into a hay bale, you said? Did you check under the bale to see where it went?"
"Well right after the damn thing took off, I went runnin' to git the rest o' the town. Was dark as all hell in that barn, so I didn't see nuthin' whin that thing went inta' the hay, but whin I git back there with a bunch of people, we ain't seen nothin' but a bunch o' torn up hay. Ifn' it left through the ground, it hid its tracks real good."
(You sure? I'm sorry I took so long to reply, but you kind of left a conversation unfinished.)
My bad, I misread your post and thought that Talen had wandered off.
-
Argus replied, "Noted. We'll take a look around the barn, and I'll be keeping an eye out for any Grimm. Thanks for your time, Mr. Suthers." He shook the farmer's hand and turned to Kale. "You're with me. Let's sweep the barn for any sign of it going underground, and tonight we can talk about setting a trap for it." Argus then headed for the barn, his shadow on the watchtower still looking around and his other two shadows still scouting the surrounding forest.

"Hey, I thought yer ears were sposed' to be better than yer eyes! The damn thing's been gone for months now and I need help up here!" Suthers yelled as Argus left.
-
"Large underground tunnels tend to leave traces, Mr. Suthers," replied Argus without looking back. "This shouldn't take long; I'll be back in an hour or two to help you."
-
"Villages are always quiet..most of thr time." Talen replied, hearing thr Cordelia from her scroll. "Anyways, how exactly do i fix this thing?"
-
Kale sighed this was gonna be a long mission looking to Mr Suthers Kale gave him a soft smile and apologized for their antics, the view had calmed her down a notch but it was a fine line she was walking and she knew if she wasn't careful she might just cause more trouble for both them and the village. So she kept her emotions in check while she followed the veteran hunstmen to investigate the barn.

What was left of the pen lay in the grass on its side. One might believe it an intact structure until their eyes rested on the damaged portions. It seemed like chunks of the fence had been run through a wood chipper, and it was these sections that the group was trying to patch up with fresh wood.
The villager handed Talen a few nails, a hammer, and a few boards. "You can start by nailing that across this section here," he said, indicating a gap in the topmost crossbeam of the fence. "Anything unusual? Well, it wasn't a grimm or a bandit, so that was pretty weird. It also got around really well. Like it would pop up in someone's barn one night, and in another's kitchen the next," he said.
Everyone in the village seemed to know where Suthers lived, so finding it wasn't difficult at all. The house was smaller than most, and had a noticeable lean to it. The barn could be seen behind the house from the street. Upon entering the barn, Kale and Argus would find it empty save for a few hay bales in the corner. Nothing really stood out beyond the soft creaking of the structure.
-
Argus materialized a shadow next to him and went over to the hay bales, looking around on the ground with his shadow for any sign of a tunnel, collapsed or otherwise.
-
Kale kept her scenes sharp as she moved slowly through the barn unlike Argus who just went straight to checking bales of hay, but while he did that Kale was scanning every little detail hoping to find something that would indicate what it was that Suther's had seen. Even while she worked she had too ask (OOC: some of you will hate me for this) "So what made you want to become a huntsmen?, she chuckled softly as it was a question she asked herself constantly just to reassure herself why she kept fighting on, and for her it was a clear answer.
-
Argus didn't pause in his search as he replied, "Huntsman training is what let me get over my blindness and fight in spite of it." He chuckled. "I'll admit, my Semblance helps, but I've proven I can fight without it in a pinch. If I hadn't become a huntsman, I'd still depend on it for everything."
-
Talen nodded firmly and excitedly started positioning the boards in place. Hammering away she noticed a little too late that one of her nailswas hammered in at a bad angle and popped out the side rather than through the wood. Frustrated she took the backside ofthe hammer and yanked it out accidentally splitting the wood around the nail a little.
Damn. This is a little harder than I thought, father made it look so easy. Determined to do it right the second time she held firm onto the nail, making sure to not let it go astray. Slam. It went in. Good. Slam. A little more. Squish.
Yelping in pain she dropped the hammer and cradled her index finger, having hit it with the hammer. You'd think that kind of stuff only happened in the movies, not in real life! With her aura quickly patching her finger up she picked the hammer up again and started again, this time at a slightly lower height for morr accurate strokes.
-
Argus materialized a shadow next to him and went over to the hay bales, looking around on the ground with his shadow for any sign of a tunnel, collapsed or otherwise.
Argus found nothing under the first few hay bales, but one was different. Its middle seemed to have been put through a blender, making the whole thing considerably shorter than the others. Further investigation underneath the hey bale revealed a slight depression in the ground, but nothing else stood out.
Kale found that the remains of what had once been a chicken coop. It was a bit unorthodox, but if the rest of the village was to be believed, Suthers had had a few screws loose even before the attack. Besides that, little chips of wood had been scattered all over the barn, and bloodstains adorned the walls where animals had once been kept.
"Not as easy as it looks, huh?" the villager commented with a chuckle. "You city-folk don't show up 'round here often, so what's the deal with this thing. I mean, I'm jus' glad it's gone, but are ya'll tryin' to find it out here?"
-
Argus walked over to Kale at the former chicken coop, leaving a shadow at the depression in the ground. "We're definitely after a burrower. One of those hay bales is shredded all the way through, and there's a dip in the soil right below it."
-
Talen grinned and replied, "Something like that I guess. For all we know it could be something else. But don't worry we're foing to protect everyone here!"
As she exclaimed the last bit she raised her hammer and nailed a plank down with proper alignment, finally finished with one side. She was proud ofnher work but seeing several other planks she groaned and unconsciously started hiding her fingers in her palms.
-
(Hey Mogar, you there?)
-
(OOC: sorry been doing IRL shit)
Kale looked at the bloodstained walls and following the faded path of disturbance she came to the same conclusion that Argus did right before he voiced it, she nodded and said "Yea looks like Suther's isn't as crazy as the villagers think he is.", she put a finger too her earpiece and said "Hey guys looks like we have a burrower on our hands keep your ears open and your eyes peeled."
-
"If it's a burrower," mused Argus, scratching the stubble on his chin, "we probably won't be able to chase it very well once it figures out we're after it. We should set a trap, and a good one. We'll only have one shot at this."
-
"Uhm..how do we make a trap for something underground? Burry a mousetrap?" Talen muttered, her mind focussing kn not hitting her thumb aga- "Owie! I hate this stupid thing.."
Too latr
-
"Not that kind of trap, kid," replied the huntsman. "More like putting a particularly fat cow in the open and waiting for our burrowing friend to try and attack it. Something along those lines, anyway."
-

"You want another job? We could have ya on guard duty," the villager said as he raised his head to look at the sun slowly creeping down towards the horizon. He didn't seem to have noticed Talen's earpiece conversation. "If you could tough it out though, it'd be a mighty big help. By the way, I'm Mark Habelmann. I've been sorta' like a leader 'round here since that thing attacked us. Care to tell me your name?"
-
Kale thought for a moment and looked to Argus with a look in her eye that spoke of an idea that under normal circumstances would be insane, but in this case might be just what they needed. All she said was "Well instead of a cow how about one very pissed off fox faunus."
-
Argus raised an incredulous eyebrow. "If you think you can pull it off and survive, we've got your back. A good hard stare from Onlooker here should be able to knock it on its ass once it shows itself, but that still leaves the issue of getting it to stay put once it figures out it can't kill us."
-
Talen shook her head and smiled at the man, showing her aura-protected finger. "No worries, I can handle a bit of manual labor. I won't actually get hurt doing this, aura and all, though it does tend to catch me off guard. I'll stick with this for now, might need to learn how to actually build something in the future. Talen replied, fondly reminded of her old village life. "Oh right, I'm Talen. Pleasure to meet you, Mark.

"Well, long's you're okay with it," Mark said as he hammered in a few more nails. "Now see here Talen, I think you're a nice kid, so I'm only sayin' this for your own good. You and yer friends should stop lookin' for this thing, whatever it is. No good'll come from pokin' your nose in someone else's business."
-
Talen laughed nervously and said something along the lines of needing to find a bathroom. The man seemed oddly adamant eith his statement so she was wondering whether or not he was either mad about being pitied or something much much worse. She only hoped they heard it on radio, she didnt want to talk out loud for the meantime
-
Kale was about to tell Argus her plan but then she heard the conversation from Talen's comms and started to worry a little, and she voiced her concern "Kinda makes you wonder what their hiding doesn't it?"
-
"Yeah. It does," replied the huntsman. "You all should try and find that out." He gave a wry smile. "I don't think they'd respond well to me asking nicely unless my gun asks nicely too, and I think we'll save that for later if they're being uncooperative."

Mark raised an eyebrow but didn't otherwise question Talen. He pointed to a house nearby and said, "Bathroom should be the first door on the right if you need it."
-
Kale smirked and said "Yes lets keep things as peaceful as we can for now, although if things get to the point of no return then you can let your gun do as much talking as needed.", she walked out of the barn and headed over to Talen's location to possibly get her out of a vary sticky situation. Upon arriving to the fence she looked around hoping to spot a decent place for an ambush in the distance but figured she would need to venture out a bit to find a good one.
-
As Kale went off to rescue Talen, Argus sent out five shadows to scout the town for the best possible location to lay a trap.
-
"Oh, hey Kale. Can you come here for a sec? Talen asked, motioning to a secluded corner. Turning her head left and right to see if anyone was around she tuned in her radio. "It's not conclusive but...maybe the rogue android is the least of our problems.
-
Kale cannot see any place in the village that would be suitable for an ambush. Argus' shadows find a few ridges around the town that could be used for an ambush, but nothing within the actual collection of buildings would be useful for an ambush without free reign to hide in and move through the buildings.
Mark looked to the sun once more and then to Talen and Kale. He swung his head back to the workers and said, "Alright, wrap it up. Bandits like the night, but they like sleepy villagers even better. Get on home, the lot of you! I want to see you all back here early tomorrow."
-
Argus said over comms, "I got nothing in the actual town, but there are some ridges around the outskirts we could use. We'll need a way to lure the thing to them, though."
-
Talen idled with thoughts on the odd robot but kept to herself for the meantime. Cordelia seemed rather preoccupied apparently and the others were brainstorming a trap. Though despite their efforts she couldn't help but feel worried about the villagers themselves. Maybe they were just paranoid, maybe she was just paranoid, heck maybe the robot was just paranoid! Cant robots even get paranoid, well it was about time they found out.
-
(Alright, let's try to revive this. Mogar, you there?)
-
(Yea I'm here.)
-
(Do. we have Mortos and Xar?)
-
(waiting on you fellas)
-
(Alright, here goes nothing.)
As the group convened, a clearly apprehensive Suthers stopped on his way home and listened to the group. After a few seconds, however, he walked right up to them and announced in a somewhat quiet voice, "Them's planning words. I didn' hear much, but I wan' in jes the same."
-
(OOC sorry work has been kicking my ass lately and i haven't had as much time for other things)
Kale looked at the old man and asked "I'm not going to be the one who stops you, this is your home after all, but I have to ask are you sure? This could quickly turn from a simple plan to us getting hurt if this doesn't work out." she figured the man could hold his own but wanted to ask just in case he decided he didn't want to go through with it.
-
"Hold up a stinkin' minute, I don't think no bandits'll be able ta hurt ya much whin ye got a full-blown huntsman on yer team," Suthers replied, clearly confused.
