Title: Huntsmen and huntresses, have you ever considered a different career path?
Post by: Vision on February 03, 2017, 08:54:49 PM
The last question thread seemed to go over well so thought I'd make another one. For those that didn't see it: this thread will focus on one question rather than one character, so we can see how different characters respond. Since the first one was pretty simple I thought we could try a more involved question this time.

Many citizens of Remnant have been saved by huntsmen and huntresses, as such it is an especially well-respected career path. However it is equally among the most dangerous lines of work. Those of you that have chosen this path: Was there ever a moment where you reconsidered? If you were to chose a different direction, what would it be?

Aurelia Caelius

Aurelia sighed. "Unfortunately many times, and it shouldn't just be me, either. My duty as a Huntress is to protect everyone, and when I fail, it really strikes at my core because this path is all I know."

She took a sip of her water. "As for another career path, uh. I don't think I could be a cop; people say I can be a little to 'energetic' at times." She laughed. "Maybe I'd be better suited as a firefighter or something. Maybe a metal-smith back in my village. If anything else, I could see myself as an athlete or some kind."

'No.'  Calen answering the first question with a slight smile.  'Although that could be because I'm too early in the journey for the romance to wear off.'

'Something vastly different I hope.'  Calen eyes growing distant and wet with half tears. Gesturing to his blade Calen continues  'If I didn't have to wear this I would never want to see it's like; maybe a cook, locked in his kitchen all day or a scholar wasting over forgotten tomes.'

"I mean, I won't pretend that my resolve is perfect or anything" Diana replied, slightly averting her eyes "I was alone for most of my initiation, got close to giving up then but that was mostly just the stress talking. The only time I genuinely wanted to give up was back in Atlas" as the conversation went on she started fidgeting with her hands "There I took par... I had a rough time, but haven't had anything like that here at Beacon". She made proper eye contact again "I think I would have liked to work in the medical field, as a nurse or maybe even a doctor. In a way they do the same thing as us protecting and saving people. Just that their fights involve less gunfire "

"Maybe," Setsuna murmured, glancing down at a dismantled Harmony. "Between all the fighting, the training that I've done to get to Beacon...I guess I've always strived for a fair and peaceful future. Perhaps I was simply too narrow-minded back then. Not that I would give this up," he chuckled,"But if there was another way to achieve my goal, maybe with less violence, then I might have taken it. Mind you, I guess I could always become a weapon designer..." Setsuna trailed off, looking at a set of blueprints entitled "Equilibrium"."But now, my path is illuminated. There's no going back." he finishes determinedly.

Sherwood:

"Ah never expect to be a Huntsman. Ah figured Ah'd be a game hunter like my father and his father. It was chance Ah met my mentor and he called me out on the Huntsman life. He said Ah have ah talent Ah can't waste." Sherwood says, a smile on his face as he remembers the conversations.

"Ah wasn't keen on it at first. Ah didn't think Ah wanted the life. Ah was a hunter, and Ah hunted to provide for my family and village. Ah liked it that way. It was my grandfather who put it in another light for me."

"He said well... Ah'll spare you the whole conversation, it was rather personal ahfter ahll. What he told me was just as we're the hunters of animals and birds, Grimm are the hunters of man." Sherwood says, a serious edge in his voice. "If Ah can hunt Grimm, Ah can save ah man's life. Ah can get behind that. Humanity is ahgainst it's natural predator. Ah've been the predator before. Ah know we need ahll the help we can get ahgainst them."

Sona:

"Careers... have not been a priority in my life. Since... well, since I was" she smirks wryly, but there's a hollowness to the expression. "emancipated, I wanted to fight the good fight. There are good people and bad people out there. I've met lots of the latter, and treasure the former."

"Bandits shouldn't be allowed to run around freely." She says with venom under her passive tone. "Ban... Bad people need to be stopped. And I want to be the one to do it." She pauses, schooling her expression and gathering her thoughts.

"So I've never had the chance to consider anything else. I don't know if I regret that or not." She says, her eyes alight with steel and fire.

Richard:

"Well I wanted to be an archaeologist. I am one now, in addition to a professor. The Huntsman thing only happened when I, like the foolish teenager I was, tried to prove a point. I ended up at combat school to prove I could handle being out in the wastes. And when I turned out to be a good Huntsman, I stuck with it. Mostly out of a sense of duty to my teammates." He pauses, amused by his own train of thought.

"Regardless, Huntsman stuck for a decade or so. Now I teach and do my archaeology. So you can definitely say I reconsidered, and you can say I took it and ran." he shrugs.
