Title: A Casual Time-Wasting Spar [CLOSED]
Post by: MonsterManic on February 18, 2017, 10:01:37 AM
Tina walked out of the arcade and sighed. She had just spent the last of her tokens trying to beat one of those shoot-em-up games that you never seem to win. Despite both her experience and time spent, infuriatingly, she couldn't seem to get past that single level, and now she was left with nothing to do. Not even a single Lien for her to play around with. She was hoping to come out excited and ready to work, but the polar opposite had happened and she was left dispirited, annoyed, and most of all, bored.

"Sigh...There's that combat test tomorrow, and I'm nowhere near ready for it...Wish I had a team to spar with, but..." she trailed off, wondering if she could find a partner or two that she could practice against. Leaning back against a wall, she searched through her scroll to see if she recognised anyone.

Catalina arrived at the arcade. Now where is it, Remnant: The Game... Ah, right in front. One, two, three. He approached the console right beside the one his contact is using and started a game with her.
"Whatever you want to know, you found the right boy." He sent a message through in-game chat, while trying to siege  the walls of the Vale AI with his androids. It's working.

"Yeah, you better run! Try to pull that crap on me again, see what happens!" Chris shouted at the man scrambling away from him. Damn pickpockets. I swear, the cops in this city must be lazy as hell. That was one of the problems with being as distinctive as Chris was with his mask, distinctive usually means more lucrative to thieves.

Stepping out of the alley, Chris was in need of a way to blow off steam. With the third time someone tried to steal his money in the last year behind him, he had a lot of pent-up frustration. But, that could happen later. For now, he saw a pretty girl and an opportunity to fill up the rest of his afternoon. Grabbing a soda from the nearby vending machine, he leaned up against the wall and opened it to get her to look over at him. Maybe today won't be so bad after all.

Drag...drag..drag
Was the sound Griz's body made as he was carried and thrown out of the arcade. His body made a nice thud against the concrete as he was "gently escorted" out of the facility. What was his heinous crime you ask? What could he have possibly done to earn such irrevocable scorn?
Well he had fallen asleep on one of the driving simulators...again. He was starting to think that the people who ran this business were holding a grudge against him from the time he broke the Dance Remannt Revolution machine.
Well no matter what the cause he was now outside...lying in the middle of the street... Actually now that he was thinking about it, this was pretty comfy! If he just shifted a bit to the right ... ah there we go! The perfect sleeping spot. So there he was, lying in the middle of the sidewalk, not a care in the world, bathing in a sunbeam.
I really need something to wake me up...I could really go for a spar right now...but the gym is soooo faaaaaar...I think il just stay here for now. Yeeeeeaaaah that sounds real nice.

Tina had only just closed her eyes and let out a despondent sigh, when she just managed to hear a almost inaudible dragging sound. Curious, she opened her eyes a tiny crack, enough to see a young man carried out the front door. His body made a loud "thump" as he got unceremoniously chucked out by the staff.

"Um...A-are you alright?" Tina timidly asked, her voice quavering. She couldn't help but hurry over to the fallen boy, unintentionally ignoring the masked person who had just tried to get her attention.

Infrared texted Catalina. "This is it. You know what that is, and how do I find it?"
On the game she pull of one of the most classic playstyle, infiltrating Cat's Atlas with her Vacuan warriors taking control of it and the game in one swift move.
Catalina gasped. Not because the game is lost unexpectedly, although it hid his real reason behind the gasp.
"You almost snowballed out of control. It was lucky I stopped you this turn. Well played. Here's your Lien." Said the victorious girl, still sitting as she is handing out the money as opposed to Catalina who stood up to let the surprise sink a little, and grabbed on the Lien almost crumpling it in the process. He needed something to get it out of his mind and think about it later, hopefully something the releases endorphin. Like a good spar.
Walking out of the arcade Catalina noticed Griz on the floor. He's probably the only one that would sleep here and now. Trying to pull Griz up he said to the girl asking if he's well "He's just sleeping. Even though this is not the best place."

Chris was a bit annoyed that he was ignored in favor of some dude just laying in the middle of the sidewalk. Taking a step away from the wall, he walked around to get a better look at the boy. "Oi! Kid! If you're gonna be wastin' your time sleeping in the middle of the day, you best be finding a spot that's not in everyone's way." he said, folding his arms and looking down on the kid.

Admittedly, he took some solace in the fact that the kid was lazy enough to deserve some of the annoyance he bared toward him. Not that all of it was his fault. Still, Chris felt some catharsis in giving the sleeping boy a wake up call, given that it ruined his first impression with this new girl.

Griz mumbled and shifted at the commotion. Obviously some people couldn't  appreciate a good nap when they saw one. Aw well, might as well see what's going on.
Groggily opening his eyes to see what was happening he was shocked to see 3 different sets of eyes staring at him. One of them being noticeably miffed about something or other. He had probably said something earlier but Griz was too out of it to hear anything so it would go completely ignored.

He also quickly realized that he had being hoisted upright and was being steadied by Catalina. Woah what was she doin here of all places.
Griz dusted himself off and addressed the gathering.

"Hey *yawn* guys! You must be wondering why I have gathered you hear today. Well I thank you for your deep interest and quick response. I, Griz *yawn* Blancard, have called this meeting on the behalves of lazy people everywhere. We demand that you let us sleep where we please or fight for the right to our sleeping spot in the form of a duel. Understood? Great! Meeting adjurened, nap time."
Griz yawned as he began to crouch to lay back down again. What a weird day this was turning out to be.

"Umm..." Tina was getting visibly flustered by Griz's abnormal behavior, as well as the appearance of the masked man behind her. This was a situation she did not enjoy being in, surrounded by strangers.
"I-is he always like that?" she asked the boy helping Griz up. He seemed to know him, by the way he was handling the drowsy boy. What have I gotten myself into... wait. A duel? A plan began formulating in Tina's mind.  Maybe this won't be so bad after all... if I can get used to facing a sleepwalker and a intimidating masked man? she gulped.

"Always sleeping? Yeah. Asking for a duel over everything? Usually not. Buuuut if you want one you got it, we have an combat exam anyways. Where and how?" The sentence is pointed toward Griz, but then Catalina noticed the clearly irritated, masked person. Where did he see him? Oh, on that drink. That he never find attractive. He would prefer coffee or cola. Either way, "Would you like to join?"

Aside from the curious display of the drowsy boy, Chris was having none of this. "If it takes me kicking you in the face to get you to stop being a nuisance, I will. Though you need to wake up, or this'll be a short fight." he said, a smirk finally coming to his face. Now, things were getting interesting.

Griz paused mid-crouch and stared at the crowed in disbelief. Did...did they not get the jokes. Sheesh either Griz was more sleepy then he thought or he had read one too many old timey deuling novels.
...Well at least for this duel Griz wouldn't need to reach for a flintstock pistol. He was a terrible shot anyways.

Standing up and brushing himself off Griz gestured towards a small gathering of trees and smiled at the group.

"Well if you guys are really looking to get some sparring practicing in then there is a small outdoor sparring arena in a park just beyond those trees. Beacon put them in when students were complaining about being forced to fight indoors. The new ones even come equipped with dust force fields at their borders to prevent any stray bullets from hurting themselves!"

Brushing some of the sleep out of his eyes Griz got a good look at the guy from earlier. He was quite rude...but cute in a way. Something told Griz this was going to be a very  interesting spar.

Perfect, Tina thought. In one fell swoop, she had solved her dueling problem and got Griz off the path, where more and more pedestrians were starting to gawk, and she hated attention when it came from strangers.

Standing up and heading for the trees toward the dueling arena, she brushed her hands over her duel revolvers and smiled. She hadn't had a proper, old-time fight with these before, only killing the occasional Grimm, and she looked forward to the firefight. But before that...

"Excuse me," she said slightly more confidently to the masked man striding in front of her.  "Haven't I seen you somewhere before? Uh, an advertisement maybe?" She could have sworn she knew that mask, but she was too anxious to recognise that before.

Catalina nodded at Griz's idea and promptly started walking. "I like watching people spar there, it'd be good sparring there for the first time. He didn't comment on the girl's question, of course it's cooler for him to answer that him self
Excitement sparked on the way they went, but then concern and wonderings popped up as well. What are the strats for a four way match? What's their semblance and how do I find it out?...

Chris took the opportunity to pull his weapon out of his sweatpants. Flipping the nunchaku around with blinding speed and expert-level technique, he took a few seconds to show off before turning to Tina and saying "El Pantera. Official spokesman for Spike Energy. Always ready for a fight." while catching his nunchaku under his arm and flexing. He finished his over the top posing off with another sly smile, showing perfectly polished teeth*.

Griz chuckled at the faunus's antics, ignorant of any hostility. If anything he was glad he would have such eager opponents.
Sauntering into the clearing the arena made its debute. The area looked fairly simple. A grassy field complete with a few trees and shrubbery. A white line could barley be seen forming a large rectangular arena. Griz slowly walked over to the panel and punched in a few numbers and swiped his hunter ID. In a flash of light a barrier flung up around the area. It would allow things in but nothing come out until the match was finished. After yawning loudly Griz hung his jacket and jeans on the branch of a tree revealing a tank top and sport shorts underneath. He also pulled out his weapon "Twin Stars" before sitting down on one side of the arena.

"So everything should be set up and ready to go. Grab your weapons and choose a side of the arena. If you want to go 2v2 just stand with me or the other side of the field. If you wanna go battle royal just stand in a corner. But don't rush *yawn*. I'm not going anywhere"

Griz took this time to look at the sky. The endless blue seemed to be calling him. It would be a perfect spot for a nap...aw well opportunity wasted. The ram Faunus did some stretches to warm up and waiting for the spar to start.

Acero had been waiting almost 2 hours for some of his usual sparring partners to show up, only to get multiple messages saying that they "had other things to do." Acero was starting to feel kind of sad and lonely when he read the last message. He had recently left his home country of Atlas (where all of his friends and remaining family members lived), lost 3 body parts and was still without a team. But, as fate would have it, Acero heard the arena barrier go up. He went to investigate and saw a few first years getting ready to battle. Acero--not wanting to be alone for the rest of the day--said to the combatants:

Hey! You rookies training or something? My buddies kind of stood me up and now I have the rest of the day to myself and nothing to do. Do you guys mind if I watch your match? I'll even act like one of those Vytal Festival commentators if that's what it takes. What do you say?

"S-sure?" Tina replied hesitantly."If the rest of you guys are fine with it, of course..." Already focused on the duel at hand, she was caught off guard by the sudden appearance of what looked to be a 4th year."As for the duel itself... I'll settle for a battle royale." she finished, lying back against a tree, roughly opposite Griz. She pulled out her dual revolvers, Sunrise and Nightfall and checked the rounds laying dormant within the chamber. All seemed well, and she was ready to go.

Catalina ran some thoughts. "Sure, I want a battle royale too."
He took another corner, called in his backbox and took out the rifle Got' eem, but not aiming anyone.
He took a closer inspection on it. "I'll protect you. No one will take you away from me."
Filled with this determination Catalina readied for battle.

Chris's years of hectic schedules made him adept at changing quickly. By the time he got into the sparring area, he had already taken off his sweatpants to reveal his fighting kit underneath. Taking his place in the unclaimed corner of the arena, he slipped on his elbow pads and started quickly taping his fists. Not my best work, but it'll do in a pinch.

"Sucks that you don't want to be on a team. You're very pretty, and it'll suck to have to give you a few bruises." he said to Tina, hoping that his complement will throw off the gunslinger.

Griz stared blankly as everyone took their places. One word was racing through his mind at that very moment. One sirene, elegant word. Fuck.
The ram Faunus had been hoping that they could just double team. Then he could just cut back and only do 50% of the work. But of course these guys wanted a battle royal so I guess he was just going to have to deal with it.
Slowly sauntering to his corner of the field his gauntlets emmited a low whirring hum as the kinetic dust activated. Griz already had a plan on how to handle this situation. It's not like he haven't done this exact thing before and won. After all he wasn't a tourney champion for nothing.
As he sensed the moment which the referee would start the match was coming Griz unleashed his aura he had been keeping under wraps..
He always hated this part, it always drew way to much attention. His aura flared widely as an explosion of power radiated around him. Aura bubbles fizzed and rocketed into the sky like a coke bottle on mentos.
Griz shared a lazy emerald filled gaze with the ref.
"Ok buddy I think we are ready to start on your signal."

Acero looked at the combatants and their weapons. He couldn't help but feel a little jealous when looking at their weapons (and fashion sense). He quickly cleared this thought out of his head and prepared to give announcements.

Alright, before we start, I'd like to go over a few things. First of all, if any of you go overboard and try to kill your peers, I will destroy you. Secondly, if your aura goes down, get to a corner and I'll get you out. And third, and this is more for me than it is you, if you guys still want to fight after this match, I'll be more than willing to be your opponent. Now, that being said, let's have a good match, good luck to all of you, and have fun. Now, let the game begin!

If what Chris said was simply to put her off, it worked. Really, really well. Tina had to half-turn to stop anyone from seeing her newly acquired facial color and expression. Beneath the blushing, however, her heart was pounding. Not just from the adrenaline, but from another factor...

She was further thrown off balance by an explosion of bubbles, radiating from the originally sleepy boy. He now seemed like he could punch a mountain and be just fine.  Ok... Not going near you. Period. was what flashed through Tina's mind.

Still somewhat off balance from the explosion, Tina reacted somewhat sluggishly, snapping both revolvers out of their holsters, moving away from both Griz and Chris, and, hammering the triggers, sent a total of 6 non-infused bullets (3% aura each) at Catalina.  Let's see who's the better gunslinger here...

Alright, no special ceremonies or anything, cut straight to the chase. Fine.

Did someone shook a bottle of cola?

Just when Catalina pulled his attention back he saw he was being fired upon.
Blocking one bullet, dodging two and getting hit by the rest Cat fired a burst of three piercing rounds at the girl in retaliation but charged towards Chris because one thing.
"A few bruises"? What are you thinking? You want to break her and then...!? Not cool dude. Not cool.
He attacked in one big move, changing his weapon to hammer form and slamming down on the forehead of the huntsman-defeating schoolmate he is facing.

Chris bounced on his heels waiting for the fight to get started. Alright. Guns. This girl has two, and it looks like she knows how to use them. Need to get in close. Keep the fighting fist to fist. Hopefully, the other two will just sort themselves-GODDAMN! Chris' thoughts were broken when as soon as the fighting started he got a hammer coming at his face. An emergency use of his semblance in panic allowed him time to roll past Catalina's left knee. Change of plans. Chris came out of the roll on his feet, halting his momentum and changing direction. He took a step back toward Catalina and jumped, aiming a knee at the back of the boy's head in retaliation.

Griz smiled,
This was just how he liked it. With everyone going at each other they had all seemed...to have forgotten about him. Arguably the most experience fighter there...appearances can be deceiving. Griz let the kinetic dust in his gauntlets build up to full power as he made a move of his own. Slowly pacing himself into the middle of the arena he saw the events from the others transpire. Gun slinger to gunslinger then to Chris back to Cat. Honestly it was a game of rock paper scissors. Of course that was until Griz saw Chris dodge the hammer attack aimed for him with speed that would have even made some seniors flinch.

There is no way a first year has that type of speed...unless he has a speed semblance.
Seeing the attack Chris had aimed for Cat's head, Griz made a decision. There was no way someone like her could handle a guy like that in close ranged combat. So Griz was just going to subtly grab his attention...yes...subtly.
Flaring up his aura Griz smashed against the ground with dust and aura amplified strength. The result was a powerful shock wave that travelled to the ends of the arena. The earth upheaved itself and the once flat playing field had become filled with jagged rocks, boulders, and uneven land. Tina would have had plenty of time to dodge the wave seeing it coming from a mile off, Catalina depending on her reaction time might come off with just a few scratches but it was Chris's actions that would interest Griz the most.
If he decided to go through with his attack the shock wave would most definitely hit him when he hit the ground opening him up for follow up attacks.
If he dodged then everyone got off scot-free but then he had lost his opportunity for some free damage
If he wanted to to some cheeky speed things then the moment he stopped Griz would take advantage of that.

Of course these were just the things that Griz expected. He wouldnt be surprised if the kid found some way around it. He was "The Tiger" after all.
Griz let out a breath of tension after such heavy aura manipulation and settled into his boxing style fighting stance. His gloves cooled off as the kinetic function temporarily switched off to cool down while Griz observed Chris's next moves very carefully.

(OOC: Just to keep the ball rolling since it's been 4 days now)

Yes, Tina thought in satisfaction as half her shots landed on her target. Seeing as it was the start of the fight she was expecting a worse result. However, that satisfaction turned to a jolt of pain as Cat returned fire, two of his shots finding it's mark before she flattened on the ground.  That hurt...

Rolling behind a tree, Tina peeked out and saw Cat and Chris duelling it out between each other. ”That's two of them, where’s—What the HELL?” she gasped as a massive dust-filled shockwave came rolling her way. Frantically climbing the tree she was taking cover behind, she saw the destruction that the wave caused, basically recreating the arena into a barren, rocky battlefield. And all that came from Griz... she thought, shocked.  Just who am I fighting?

Taking a better look at her surroundings, something came to her mind. Actually, I can use this. Semblance is more useful now. Just keep fighting each other for a sec, will ya? she wondered, using the short respite she had to reload both revolvers with kinetic dust rounds, before taking careful aim on her precarious perch on the now tilting tree. Let's see you dodge these! she exclaimed in her mind, firing 3 kinetic rounds (4% each) from each gun upon Griz, specifically aiming for his arms and legs in an attempt to cripple, before swiftly turning and unloading another 4 normal rounds(3% each) in the general vicinity where Cat and Chris were fighting, not aiming at any person in general, more to distract them from the wave of doom than anything. Wait, I’ve just given away my position to everyone, haven’t I? she sighed.

Cat naturally turned his head to follow his opponent on hand. Seeing a knee flying up to meet his face Catalina let go of one hand holding his weapon to karate chop the incoming thigh hoping to send him back to the ground then a sweep kick from the side hoping to throw him off balance.
Now two events were perceived in his point of view: Tina is aiming at them again, and he hears a thundering roar spreading towards their positions.
Moving his hand back to his hammer Catalina positioned himself with Chris between him and Tina to avoid being shot and jumped as high as he can over the shockwave. In mid jump he went screw it and tried a mid air kick to the chest of Chris.

Acero couldn't believe what had just transpired, as the once flat arena turned into an uneven battleground of jagged rocks and boulders. He kind of wanted to take back what he said about being a sparring partner for the first years, although he quickly snapped out of his surprised state to comment on this sudden change.

Um, it seems as though, Griz has changed the battlefield with a giant shockwave! I cannot believe that a first year has that kind of power! Let's see how this sudden change in scenery affects the other fighters!

Acero was actually pretty interested in the battle now. "Who's gonna win this?" he wondered.

Chris suddenly found himself being targeted by seemingly everyone in the match simultaneously. They must really like me. After his knee strike was pushed down, he dropped into a crouched position to try and keep his momentum. Unfortunately, he was getting peppered from one side. Rolling back to avoid the kick, he turned to look at the gunslinger and try to think of his next move. This momentary lapse in concentration caused his roll to be suddenly stopped as the shockwave hit and a jagged rock darted up from the ground, causing the entirety of the momentum Chris had built up to be applied directly to his left shoulder. He quickly grabbed his hurt shoulder, sitting up and backing against this large mass of rock suddenly behind him.

Griz heard the gunshots mere moments before he felt them collide with his arms and legs. Spinning around violently to the sniper in the corner he saw her turning around to fire another volley and Griz dived behind a rock. He heard the bullets ricochet off the stone as the ram faunus caught his breath. Still recovering from the shock wave he set off Griz smiled too himself.
Good thing I have thick skin or I would be a goner
Griz flexed his arms and legs where they were hit. His aura didn't stop the pain but years of experience of being roasted, punched, shot, and cut would help him walk it off.
Bracing himself against his stony cover Griz took deep breaths and finished recuperating. He was almost back in fighting condition after the shockwave. Building up his aura Griz set his sights for Tina. If she wants to shoot at him she was very welcome to do so but while the shockwave had disrupted everybody it had also given the meele fighters something that changed the battle. Cover.
Before it had been a flat field leaving them sitting ducks to gunfire  but now...now they had places to duck and hide.
Griz mapped out a rout to where the shots came from calculating Tina's position from approximately where on his body she hit him.
The ghosts of pain finally faded away as Griz was ready to get back into the fight.
Lets get this show on the road were the last thoughts through his mind as Griz bursted out from behind the rock making a beeline for the next available shelter. Repeating this pattern Griz travelled in a z-shaped line randomly changing his direction and speed at any given moment.
Lets see how well she handles when her enemy is up close and personal

Wait, I’ve just given away my position to everyone, haven’t I? she sighed.

"Oh! And it looks as though Tina got a dose of pain back from Cat! Will her counterattack make her situation better or worse!?"

"Amazing! Cat has just managed to avoid the shockwave AND kick Chris in retaliation!"

"Looks like Chris is getting hammered by the rest of the combatants! Not only has he been shot a few times, but he's also been nearly been impaled by a gigantic jagged rock, courtesy of Griz might I add!"

"Ah ha! Griz has finally taken damage for the first time this match! But it appears that his aura has protected him against the volley of bullets! What a trooper! And now it looks like he's heading for Tina!"

Acero was impressed by the skill that the rookies had. They would make great warriors in the future, some even surpassing him. Hope no one goes crazy during this sparing session...

As Griz burst from his cover in an explosion of speed, Tina shimmied down the tree. As she landed, she instantly started pulsing her semblance in short bursts, like a sonar. As such, she could see in her mind both Catalina and Chris, as well as a constantly moving person who could only be Griz. Shifting both revolvers to gladius and rapier mode, Tina kept facing the direction that Griz was coming, certain that she would not be caught off guard. What she would do when he arrived was another matter, though...

Hmm."How about this?" Catalina tried to step on Chris as the obvious move. But seeing him being as quick as he is, Catalina pulled some secret onto his step.
Just when his shoe moved three quarters of the way, he activated his semblance. Spontaneously his aura field burst open and another shoe shape spawned on top bottom of his shoe. This should catch him off guard.

Chris barely had the time to realize what was behind him before he saw a boot come at his face. A quick roll to the right would have dodged the normal boot, but Chris felt something move just faster than his prediction and graze his injured left shoulder as he went to move. Grunting in a bit of pain, Chris abandoned all strategy and just bolted as fast as possible for the other side of the arena. Breathing room is required for a fight like this.

P.S. I think this whole "Aura Percentage" thing is kinda stupid.
