Title: Third Year 2v2 bracket- Finals: Avery & Taylor vs. Vermilion & Vivian

”Hello all, and welcome back to the forty-first bi-annual Vytal Festival tournament! Today we have the final match of the 3rd year 2v2 bracket, which we’ve been looking forward to more than any other match in the tournament!” The excitement in Prim’s voice was clear, although she definitely didn’t consider what Hunter’s favorite match may be when she said that. ”We’ve had a lot of Beacon matchups lately, and maybe a few others, but this bracket has shown us the absolute power, style, and efficiency of students from Atlas! First up, we have Avery LeBlanc. While I may not particularly like any of the LeBlanc kids, at least Avery isn’t annoying. In fact, he seems quite disciplined, much like his fighting style. He may not be an offensive fighter, but he can certainly take you ‘down’ in more ways than one!” As Prim continued, a roar of applause came from the crowd. For once, more Atlesian flags could be seen than Beacon ones. But that would surely even out after the Beacon students were introduced. ”Moving on, we have Taylor Stone, the other half of this duo! This exemplary young lady has a knack for getting information on the battlefield. With her drone and scouting crystals, she’s sure to have any information that her team needs! But that certainly doesn’t mean she’s lacking as a fighter! You’ll never seem to know what’s coming next in a duel with her!” As she finished her introductions, Prim gave an approving smile and tapped on Hunter’s shoulder to make sure he wasn’t sleeping through the highlight of her day.

Hunter was pouting. Prim took the one match he was excited for in this bracket! Being a man with a somewhat reasonable amount of dignity, he will not whine or complain about this. Sighing, Hunter looks to other side of the field where the Beacon students will begin. ”In my opinion, the other LeBlanc siblings are far superior, but whatever. Coming from Beacon, we got Vermilion Desdemona! He may look like royalty, but he’s due for a royal beatdown! Alongside him, we have Vivian Xanthia, the bunny that’s going to need new arms to replace those fancy ones!”

A large holographic image of a lottery machine appears on all sides of the arena, with two spinners. The spinners spun so quickly, making it nearly impossible to make out the passing words. It ticked through the options slower and slower until it finally stopped on Wind Dust Field and Desert.

On Avery and Taylor’s side, rough terrain takes up the field as wind dust crystals emerge from the ground itself, becoming more and more concentrated towards the center. As for Vivian and Vermilion, sand as far as the eye can see as various and vast dunes take up that side of the arena. In the center would be a sandstorm caused by wind dust crystals being set off. Any more crystals would would worsen the sandstorm.

(A coin flip has decided that Avery will get the first post, followed by their partner. The arena size is identical to that of the team arena in the show, however, it features scaled down biomes to fit the size. Good luck, and may the best combatant win.)

As pointed of a statement as it was, Hunter was right: Avery's brothers had far greater combat capabilities than he did. Nevertheless, what he lacked in strength he made up for with his mind. Or at least he tried to.

"Let's get the formalities out of the way," he said before making his way to the other side of the arena, passing through the sandstorm in the process. As he emerged from the other side, he wiped away the sand around his eyes before opening them back up again, and he dusted the sand off of his arms and shoulders.

"Vermilion, Vivian: hello! Good luck and may the better team win!" Avery smiled and extended out his hand.

Taylor enjoyed her introduction thinking that it gave a solid introduction into what the audience should expect of her but she also felt that it gave away a fair bit of information to the enemy which she would rather them not let them know until it was too late. Well whatever she figured, it just meant she might not have had the initial second of confusion that she liked to start with. She internally shrugged as she walked out in the arena and taking in the massive crowd that had gathered to see her and Avery fight it out against the other two who were no doubt going to be tough opponents, they did get this far in the competition after all.

Taking in the battle arena that was created just for this fight Topaz began making a plan, the sandstorm would be the best place for her to fight as she could her crystals to get a better perspective on whats going on and gain the upper hand but it also wasn't great for shooting plus the sand and wind would make her loose he footing alot easier. She and Avery reached the middle of the arena quicker then she thought they would, and she rapidly came to the realization that she didn't think of what to do with Avery in her little plan, 'damn it'.

"Uh yeah, " Topaz said quickly snapping back into attention after realizing what Avery had said. "Good luck! Let's make it a good fight!" She said while conjuring up the biggest smile she could.

"Don't worry, Atlesians, I intend to win! Let's see how fun it'll be pummeling you into the ground!" Vermilion proclaimed in response to the greeting. The announcer pissed him off, that much was evident. Thinking that he'd be beat up was ridiculous and thinking he'd lose to a bunch of ice eating stuck-up idiots was even more absurd! He'll show them, he and Vivian. His long eared friend was nearby but he was too engrossed in his bravado that he didn't bother introducing her. The announcers did their part, capturing the crowd and now Vermilion was ready to dish out some pain.

Sand was everywhere again, for some reason sand took a liking to Vermilion. His past few missions involved sand, and even the training center had it. He hated it. It was coarse, rough, and got into everything. Thanking the fact that aura protected the fine machinations of his weapon Vermilion smugly grinned, wondering if Avery and Mylies could see his triumphant smile.

Extending his weapon to its long rifle form, Vermilion rested the weapon on his shoulder. The massive calibered firearm was a comforting weight. He extended one hand, as if in half greeting but it was clear he only meant one thing.

     "Come!"

Standing alongside her partner, Vivian squinted her eyes and hummed lightly as she noticed Avery approaching them on his own through the sand. The mentions from the announcers gave her little clue as to how exactly their opponents would fight, but seeing as he was kind enough to close the gap for her, engaging Avery seemed like the most obvious route to take. Meanwhile, her leader was acting like his usual self, something she had grown numb to. Leaning towards Vermilion, the girl stood on her toes for a brief moment to get closer to his height while speaking in a hushed tone.

"Oh, let me go after him first. You can take care of the girl and her 'drone'."

Rolling up the sleeves of her pink jacket, Vivian revealed more of her shiny prosthetics. A moment later, the thin and symmetrically patterned lines along her forearm and bicep lit up, glowing yellow to indicate the type of dust that had previously been inserted. The brightly glowing lines converged at both the back of her hands and her palms, at what appeared to be the main points of dust exhaust. The exposure of her arms served more of a purpose than simply showing off; electric dust visibly coursed throughout the limbs, the occasional flicker of electricity making it clear that they would be dangerous to touch. Despite that, she was quite obviously proud to have them on display to the world, a big grin stuck on her face.

As much as she wanted to return Avery's kind gesture with perhaps a handshake or high-five, doing so now and zapping him would most definitely be seen as a cheap attack. It would give her and Verm a good laugh, but this Atlas crowd certainly didn't need their stereotypes of the sneaky and conniving faunus validated. Instead, Vivian took a couple steps forward and entered an upright combat stance to make sure he knew what to expect.

"Have fun, guys!" the woman called out to the pair, giving Avery a couple more seconds before stepping forward again. The moment she did, she sent a shocking left-handed jab his way, aimed at his upper body [5% damage].

He retracted his hand, untouched by his opponents. Unseen by the public eye, Avery was grinning ear to ear. The eagerness and confidence of Vermilion and Vivian was something to cherish.

As their 'greetings' carried on, he took the time to examine is opponent's weapons, taking extra note of the fact that Vivian's arms and their rather threatening aura. Avery wondered if there were a reason she didn't take his hand, but as she got into a combat stance, it was clear that he would find out soon enough. He kept his hand by his weapon and his eyes intensely focused on Vivian's fists. At the first sign of a twitch, Avery started moving as well. In the split second he realized where the punch was headed, he dug his right heel into the sand and pivoted backwards while at the same time semi-extending his staff and digging it into the ground to kick some sand into the air. It was dishonorable, sure, but they didn't even give them the time to return to their side of the field; he was fine with letting his honor slip a bit if it meant returning the favor in some capacity.

Avery intended to send an attack Vivian's way post sand attack, but movement in the sand was still a fairly new experience and VIvian's punch still managed to nick him in the shoulder, jolting his arm and loosening his grip on his weapon. Instead, he jumped back and extended his weapon to full length.

"Topaz, retreat! I'll cover you!" he ordered her while taking a defensive stance.

This was going to be annoying.

Topaz hesitated for a moment before following Avery's order as she really wanted to just charge at Vivian with Lithium, but it would make more sense for her to hang back a bit and just plink away at them Vivian while Avery dealt with Vivian. With this in mind she headed back towards the wind crystal sliding behind one that was a small distance away from Avery but still along the middle while flipping Lithium into bow mode and notching an arrow. Popping out from behind her cover Topaz took aim at Vermilion and let a normal arrow loose, no point in wasting dust vials quite yet.

Vermillion flinched at the arrow blow, still half buried in his own bravado, and brought out his own rifle to fire back in turn. She seemed a little too far for his spears to land accurately and he wanted to relish the barrage. Wasting spears on someone who'd just keep running away wasn't nearly as fun as cornering them and then crushing them under his foot. Besides, the girl wasn't bright enough to pick a less unstable form of cover.

"Don't worry, honey, I won't bite!" Vermilion guffawed, spinning his rifle before readying the weapon. He aimed at the large dust crystal instead of the girl, sights darting between the two and then fired. He aimed to cause an explosion of wind to cover his approach and possibly also hurt the girl. He had his own ranged weapon, could also probably could also out-shoot that puny bow, but chasing around his target behind rocks and dunes would be annoying. Besides, it was much more fun to penetrate up close than at a distance.

Sprinting soon after, he shot behind him to get a boost the second the shot went off and transformed his weapon into its spear form. As he ran, Vermilion planted his spear into the ground and released the piston system, vaulting him into the air before landing on two spear shafts that appeared under his feet a moment later.  "Now that I'm up here I could properly look down on you insects. Now will you fight, or will you perish like a dog?" he challenged. Several spears formed not a second later around him, aiming down below as if ready to stab fish in a barrel.

Vivian lifted up her arm for a moment to block some of the sand, turning her head to the side and shutting her eyes as it briefly stunned her. She quickly regained her footing and shook her head, attempting to get some of it out of her rabbit ears. Unfortunately, the ongoing sandstorm was ensuring that she would never truly be free of that annoyance. It had given him the opportunity to keep his distance, something she needed to prevent. Vivian charged at him suddenly, the start of her run slowed slightly by the sand that she stood on. She still closed the gap rather quickly, balling up her fists and raising her arms as she came at him. This volley would surely burn through what was left of these particular vials of dust, but it was a chance worth taking. Making no effort to conserve her electricity, the girl sent a series of three hard straight punches with both hands [3 attacks, 5% damage each]. While the pace of her step slowed drastically, she kept up her approach, wanting to keep the pressure on.

Avery hoped that the Dust augmentation of Vivian's arms wouldn't last much longer. Even the slight nick that he took earlier was enough to do its fair share of damage, and since parrying was out of the answer, he couldn't do anything else but dodge. The first strike narrowly sailed past him, close enough that he could feel a slight tingling sensation as it went by. However, he wasn't so lucky the next time around. The sand was giving Avery a hard time and when he tried to dodge for the second time, he fumbled his footwork and took a solid one-two punch square in the chest.

He was sent back flying onto the sand, but he managed to get back up albeit slowly thanks to the effects of the electric Dust.

Seeing as she was hesitating, Avery sent two jabs with his staff[1] in retaliation.

Not long after shooting her arrow Topaz was assaulted by some wind created by the unstable crystal comprising her cover, the wind and debris that the small vortex created caused an insignificant amount of damage to her(3% damage) but it did have the side effect of pushing her back out of cover and into a more vulnerable position. Luckily her assailant hadn't taken the opportunity to attack her quite yet foolishly choosing instead to stand on some sort of spears taunting her.

"After you went the trouble of coming here it'd be rude to run." Topaz said as a grin crept across her face, the adrenaline was finally making its way through her body making the young huntress eager to end the talking and get to the much more exciting fighting. Spending no more time plinking arrows or bantering Topaz now charged straight at Vermillion flicking Lithium into its slightly shorter handheld mode and with a last-second jump she aimed the top side of Lithium toward her opponents gut in an attempt to wind him or potentially knocking him off his high horse of spears.

Vermilion scoffed at Topaz's reply, watching with interest as the girl charged. His height gave him more than enough time to react, and with weapons already pointed downwards it was only a matter of shooting down from the high ground. Aura spears readied, and his own spear in hand, he attacked the blindly charging girl with a barrage of pointy tipped terror spread out to hit her whole body. Red flashed in the air as the spears shot downwards towards the girl to interrupt her charge, about half a dozen spears, and many more forming behind them.

"Fool, didn't they teach you not to pick fights you can't win? I have the high ground!" he jeered, mockingly taunting the girl."If you run back now I'll let you jump off the arena but I would miss hitting you a bit more." The leering eyes of the crowd didn't bother him. He didn't care about the booing. What he did care about was crushing the insect that didn't know its place.

Laughing at the pitiful attempt, Vermilion raised a hand and more spears formed by him, looking pitifully upon Topaz. He didn't raise his own weapon, instead letting the his semblance do the job. Half a dozen more spears, now twelve in total, hung next to him like eerie tools of torture, their red tinted glow untainted by daylight.

Knocking Avery onto the ground was the opportunity that Vivian needed. Whistling casually to herself, she reached into her ammo pouch and pulled out two small dust canisters of a light blue tint. After these were spent, she'd be left only with kinetic, fire, and wind dust. Each would give her a brief power-up, though if she could simply land all of her punches, he'd surely be stunned long enough to let her swap them out. She went ahead and removed the empty vials before slipping the new one into the small compartment on her left arm.

In the process of reloading her right side with her left hand, she was suddenly and suprisingly jabbed twice from a distance [-8% aura], her grip on the canister tightening when the staff struck her. The ammunition was fragile, and her hand was far too strong. Ice exploded from the container the moment it cracked [-3% aura]. Her left fist was frozen shut in an instant, a big block of ice formed at the end of her forearm. The combination of his attack and her own mistake sent her stumbling back, momentarily dazed.

Vivian quickly shook her head, trying to keep her mind in the game. She had been careless! Too much confidence in her own chances, and she had missed an easy shot at continuing her assault. Now she had paid the price- her dust was loaded, but with her hand frozen over, it didn't matter yet. Her eyes locked onto Avery, paying much more attention than she had a minute ago. She began to bash her opposite arm against the ice, taking off chunk after chunk with each rapid swing. "Come get some more!" she taunted, hopping back twice to get just a little more distance between her and his staff. With the unstable ground below them, it wouldn't be the easiest weapon to avoid without the aid of her semblance.

Avery was thankful that the duration of the Dust effects was relatively short; if not, he would've been in a world of trouble. At the cost of Vivian's mistake, Avery now knew definitely that she was switching to ice; while he wasn't as worried about it as the electric Dust, it still had to potential to cause severe complications. He took a glance at Topaz who was managing to hold her own before charging at Vivian, all the while keeping an eye on her frozen fist.  He finally released the spearhead of his weapon and sent another jab[1] at Vivian as he hoped to keep her handicapped for as long as possible.

As Topaz began her charge Vermillion threw down his spears onto her resulting with three of them hitting her, the attack did force her to abort her initial attack focusing instead now on not taking more damage and finding a better way to get up to him. The arrogant seeming boy took some time to monologue briefly giving Topaz enough time get a new plan of attack ready.

"Hey now, I still got some tricks up my sleeves." Topaz said as she jumped up a while thrusting one end of Lithium into the wind crystal behind/under her, causing a large blast of wind to send her flying towards Vermillion on his floating spear platform. Once in the air she changed the positioning of Lithium into a more attack ready perpendicular to her in order to maximize the area she could hit. If she managed to hit him the extra omph the kinetic dust gave the attack on top of the momentum from the crystal and her hitting him should ideally slam him into the ground as well giving her a much better area to fight him on.

Wind blew up behind the pesky gnat and Vermilion's eyes widened. It wasn't the first time someone thought they were hot stuff but he enjoyed the challenge he presented, it was flattering in a weird way. His opponent, just another pebble to be kicked aside, seemed to think otherwise. Unfortunately he wasn't in the mood to bring her hopes up any more than that and dispelled the spears beneath him, leaving the few others hanging behind him as he dropped backwards.

Topaz' attack fully depended on Verm not moving from his perch, high above the ground and looking down on his enemies. Vermilion was stubborn, the type of person who wouldn't budge if he wished but even if it was true, he was far from stupid.

Cackling as he dispelled his spears, Vermilion dropped as Topaz zoomed over him, not even bothering to follow up the attack with the spears in his place, but got a glancing hit as he dropped, dropping him into the sand. Red hung in the air, sparsely spaced so they probably wouldn't all hit, but also a threat in themselves to charging idiots.

Particles of dirt filled the air for but a moment and Vermilion spun his rifle to clear the debris, transforming it to its spear form while taking a moment to brush off some dirt on his shoulder. Instead of summoning more spears he hung back and rested his spear on his shoulder, taking a rest from using his semblance and the fight while wondering if he should help Vivian instead of bothering with Topaz.

"Viv! Need a little help over there? Just say so and I'll stop playing around" He jeered, wondering if the rabbit would hear him with her current clash.

Immediately, Vivian regretted her taunting. Even with the space she had cleared between them, his spear was long enough to close the gap and strike her in the torso [-6% aura]. She couldn't quite move fast enough to evade, especially with this big block of ice on her arm keeping her off balance. The ice was falling apart, slowly but surely, as was her plan of action. Moving in and smacking him with her frozen arm was a possibility, but she could tell it'd be too sluggish. For now, she kept at bashing the ice, continuing to back up with her eyes locked on

At her teammate's call, her ears perked up. Resorting to help from that guy was a pain, but if it would better their chances of victory, she could put up with him gloating about it later. "Help please!" was all she shouted back, still retreating cautiously.

Though Avery was successful in hampering her progress for now, he knew that if he didn't keep up the pressure, she would be free in no time; Vivian's call for help further confirmed this. Avery stepped into his next attack, and instead of going for another jab, he instead swept at her feet[1] hoping to, with the help of the sand, destabilize her.

Smacking Vermillion into the ground felt good as the force of his body on the very edge of Lithium gave resistance to her attack, but he had his own tricks up his sleeve as she flew right into another batch of spears with three of them striking her dead center turning the attack into equal portioned blows. If the damage that she gave herself from blowing up a wind crystal under Topaz was taken into account he won that blow exchange with the exception of getting put on the ground which was something.

As the momentum of the blast faded Topaz landed back onto the ground with the sand giving her a nice cushy landing pad, by now she was closer to where her opponents came from than where the battle was and would have to waste time running back leaving Avery on his own for a hot second. In one smooth motion, Topaz spun around sending the sand under her feet flying while switching Lithium back into bow and firing off a shot at Vivian seeing as Vermillion was hidden behind a crystal from her. As the arrow left the bow she began running back in an effort to rejoin the fray.

Hearing Vivian beg for help was a sweet tone to Vermilion’s ears. Unfortunately he couldn’t just let her beg on and she frankly wasn’t the type of person who’d do so anyways. Not a moment later a dull thud resounded nearby indicating Topaz’s decent.

“Nice of you to join us, reckless arrow girl. “  Vermilion greeted, spear on his shoulder but before he even received a reply an arrow already started flying towards his teammate. “Well that’s just rude.”

Taking his spear, he in turn shot a rifle round at Avery and used the momentum to swing his spear backwards before planting it into the ground. Arrow girl wasn’t a problem, if she did give chase all he’d have to do is make more spear walls. The poor thing would probably just run into them again.

With a snap of his fingers several spears manifested in front of Topaz in a threatening display of sharpened aural points but they didn’t lunge. Hoping it’d be enough of a distraction, Vermilion launched the pile function on his spear and shot into the air, forming three spears as he closed in on Avery and launching them downwards in close proximity to both Vivian and her enemy, just ever so slightly to the latter. Picking between melee fighters was a hassle, might as well have them both scatter.

Planting one foot in the sand, Vivian lifted her opposite leg, sending a swift kick towards Avery's swinging staff. His attack struck her directly on the leg [-4% aura], halting his swing. Not a moment later, her tall rabbit ears that had been turned in Verm’s general direction picked up the fast approaching whistle of an arrow. With little time to move out of the way, she swung her frozen hand down to bat at the incoming projectile. The tip of the arrow struck the wide block of ice protruding from her hand, cracking it immediately while still sending her arm reeling back [-5% aura].

After what had felt like forever, she could finally clench her fist, breaking apart the ice from inside. It was tricky defending against two opponents at once, with the distraction from Topaz leaving her unfocused on Avery in front of her. Feeling overwhelmed with her situation, she abandoned her previous plan and activated her semblance. A faint glow emanated from her opposite palm, which almost immediately materialized into a spherical shape that soon surrounded her hand. The large glowing bubble that had been created from aura remained connected to her arm at the wrist, even as she swung at Avery [6% knockback damage].

It wasn’t too often that she tried to use this ability offensively, but judging by how effective it was at bouncing away even the heaviest of weapons, it could surely be used for repelling foes. While it could have been a good trump card later on in the fight, making some distance between them now could give her the opportunity she would need to turn the fight back around.

Avery didn't expect Vivian to counter his attack with a kick. He didn't expect Topaz' arrow to come in. He didn't expect Vivian to use that arrow to break out of her ice cast. Any advantage that he had had dissolved into thin air, and it wasn't even the end of it. Avery, caught off guard by the quick chain of events, wasn’t aware that Vermilion took aim at him.

Before Avery could react to Vivian, Vermilion’s shot nailed him straight in the head sending a pulse of shock, pain, and disorientation throughout his body. Vivian’s fist quickly followed up, hitting him square in the chest and sending him flying back and skidding through the sand, eventually coming to a stop several feet away. He rose to his feet dazed.

The only silver lining was that she had managed to knock him out of the target zone of Vermilion’s spears.

This time Topaz wasn’t going to fall for the spears appearing out of nowhere trick again, she had already been hit by it several times and the stationary "trap" was near laughable to her and a little insulting. She merely jumped to the side to avoid it without changing her temporary aim of Vivian.

”Sorry Avery!”She yelled out as she watch Vivian break out of his ice arm prison with no small part due to Topaz’s thoughtless arrow, it would have been a great advantage to keep one arm frozen in order to mess with the balance and attack power of at least one enemy. But it already happen so now it was time to beat him without cheap tricks, or at least slightly less cheap tricks. Topaz was preparing to strike when she saw Vermillion launch into the air meaning only one thing, he was going to make more spears likely towards the somewhat closer Avery since he did theoretically come to his partners aid. Topaz decided to gamble her next attack based on her thought process going in with the aim to cause some confusion and chaos which might let they’re half of SALT gain the upper hand in this mostly equal fight. She ran up to Vivian as quickly as she could and right after he struck at Avery Topaz struck at Vivian with kinetic dust effect turned on a small amount, just enough to push him the short distance into what the green eyed fighter perceived as the spears center strike zone.

"I'm not done with you yet!" Vermilion cried, shooting a rifle shot above him to speed his descent.

Vermilion crashed down into the sand and although it wasn't how he expected to get into the fight the spear wielder spun his spear in a flourish and charged for the disoriented Avery. The fall took a nick off his aura, but given his current advantage that was nothing. Vivian was free, arrow-girl was...annoying as always, and the boy, whose name Vermilion forgot, was standing there dazed like a drunk.

With a sadistic smile stretching from ear to ear, Vermilion grunted as he charged towards Avery with another thrown aura spear from his hand, and a finally a pile-powered thrust with his spear. Dust kicked up behind the white haired young man as he ran and found that his footing wasn't exactly the best in the looser ground. His charge wasn't as fast as he hoped but with a disoriented enemy he might as well have walked towards him. Victory was within his sights and he wasn't going to let a tiny bit of dirt get in the way.

The charge that Topaz had started was rather easy for Vivian to notice. She pivoted to face the other girl, raising both of her fists in a defensive stance. Unfortunately, she hadn’t noticed the kinetic dust that was currently loaded into her opponent’s weapon. She sent her glowing, semblance-shielded fist to meet with the strike, only for her hand to bounce right back towards her. The force from the attack carried through the bubble of aura, colliding with her torso and sending her back off of her feet [-5% aura].

After rolling to a stop, Vivian lay on her stomach in the sand, groaning some. This environment was really not working in her favor whatsoever. She began to stand up, but stopped as she reached a kneeling position. Instead of running in to trade blows again, she quickly drew her submachine gun from its holster with her free hand, letting loose a surprise spray of bullets towards Topaz. Her finger only held the trigger for a couple seconds, but with the high rate of fire, she had already emptied half of her magazine. [15 shots, wide spray, 3% damage each]

Even in his dazed state, Avery was still able to get a grasp of the battle, albeit faintly, and he didn't like what he saw. He and Topaz had swapped targets and now the passionate spearman was getting on Avery's case. He used his semblance to force Vermilion’s thrown spear crashing into the ground not too far ahead of him, and as Vermilion came charging in, he attempted to parry his attack. Vermilion’s charge was slow, but unfortunately Avery’s reaction time was slower. Despite successfully getting the block, it was too late, and the attack drilled into his shoulder.

Avery winced and let out a faint grunt upon impact, but instead of falling back to regroup his senses, he exhaled sharply and sent his weapon down along the shaft of Vermilion’s for a counter-hit[1].

Topaz’s attack was successful in knocking down her new opponent, but it opened her up to a surprise hail of bullets from Vivian’s previously unnoticed gun forcing Topaz to duck down to avoid at least some of the bullets ,but they still did a number on her as 5 bullets found their marks on Topaz before she dropped onto her knee. The stinging of the bullets making her painfully aware of how hurt she was now, she couldn’t keep taking hits like this without delivering more. Clenching her teeth Topaz charged forward as fast she could through the loose sand and attacked the arm that Vivian held the gun in with all the force she could muster in hopes of hurting Vivian and knocking the ranged weapon away, if she could do that she figures she might have a advantage on the next couple of blows.

A successful hit and a counter strike later, Vermilion found himself blocking Avery's strike with his free arm as he pulled his weapon back. The strike was nothing, sure it damaged his aura, but after training with Hannah and Vivian this felt like nothing more than a tickle. "You're going to need to hit way harder than that if you want to beat me." With a scoff and a twist, Vermilion shoved the blade to the side and engaged his weapon's transformation sequence.

Steel slid against steel as Vermilion's spear compacted into its pile-driver form, and Verm readied for another strike. If one simple spear strike could hold his opponent back certainly a pile driver in the chest would utterly crush him. Snapping his fingers, Vermilion formed four spears behind Avery, their crimson points hovering in midair to threaten his back.

Vermilion gave no pause, however, and pushed forwards, slamming his piledriver forwards towards Avery's chest with a piston powered spike, a deafening metallic slam indicating the weapon releasing its payload. In the corner of his vision he spotted Vivian release a hail of bullets, seemingly holding her own against the annoying one. That was good, he thought, but perhaps he should join in on the fun later. Maybe he'd get a kick out of picking on the skirmisher again.

Vivian stood up as Topaz went down, the golden glow of aura disappearing from her empty hand. The random spray of shots wasn’t as precise as she would have hoped, but it definitely improved her situation. It had a lot more utility at a closer range… Which made it all the more surprising when her opponent began charging right at her. In that brief moment, she felt a very real urge to unload the rest of her magazine on the poor girl at point-blank, but making that choice could potentially leave her open to the incoming attack. Evading and trying to counter would, she hoped, let her keep a larger advantage.

As Topaz neared her, the faunus took one step back, making sure to focus on keeping her feet steady in the sand. Vivian then slid back, rotating around one leg to narrowly avoid the heavy swing. As she leaned away from Topaz, she suddenly let go of her own weapon, the firearm falling to the ground. After all, that hand needed to be free if she was going to make use of the ice dust loaded into it, still unused since her scuffle with Avery. It was a risky mix-up, but it wouldn’t be right for her to not take such a chance here of all places. With one quick step forward, she clenched her fist and drove the metal towards her opponent’s gut with tremendous force, exhausting every bit of ice dust in the prosthetic all at once. [10% damage, heavy freezing effect.]

"You're going to need to hit way harder than that if you want to beat me."

A pump of adrenaline washed away Avery’s dazed state. The cogs of his mind quickly accelerated, and he was able to see the battle(field) with clarity once again. Since Avery didn’t have much of a chance to before, a flood of thoughts concerning his opponents burst into his head and caused the world around him to stand still for just a moment. Spear-user with semblance included, aggressive, spirited. That was all well and good, but what stood out about Vermilion the most was that he reminded Avery of one of his dueling partners: Annabelle (not pulled out of ass (http://rwby-rpg.rwbyfanon.com/archive/index.php/topic,3084.msg67896.html#msg67896)).

Knowing that he had to be decisive if he wanted to win against an opponent that was remotely like her, Avery rallied himself. The world around him was slowly brought back into motion, and the transformation of Vermilion’s weapon clicked slowly at first, accelerating like the clangs of a dropped metal ball. In the same window that Vermilion was transforming his weapon, Avery followed suit though it wasn’t nearly an intricate: he moved his hand up the shaft closer to the head and significantly compacted the butt of the spear.

As the transformation of Vermilion’s weapon neared its end, Avery already had an idea of what it was and what its owner planned to do with it. Avery found it odd that Vermilion would resort to a punch when 1) he had a tactical advantage with his semblance and 2) Avery had just disengaged with his partner whose main weapons were fists (at least when they fought seeing as Vivian had an SMG stashed away).

With Vermilion rearing to life, Avery did as well. He dug his left foot into the sand and pivoted hard, adjusting based on the results of his previous failed attempt, and wrapped his right hand near the base of Vermilion’s weapon as it went by. As he was turning, the spears that were behind him came into view, and while the possibility of pulling Vermilion’s weight through them was nice, Avery opted to take his opponents advice instead. Avery clicked on his semblance, specifically targeting Vermilion’s weapon making it feel significantly heavier, and pulled Vermilion’s weight forward hoping to throw him off-balance. Finally, Avery leaned forward toward his opponent’s massed, as if trying to drive a stake through his heart from the opposite end of his body, sent a heavy stab at the side of Vermillion’s ribcage [1].

Topazes charge failed as a Vivian stepped to the side to avoid the attack, but it did force her to drop her weapon which was a success in that front. Unfortunately for Topaz she didn’t know about the prosthetics abilities and when hit with the freezing gut punch it shocked her to her core. Topaz breath disappeared and she found a ring of ice now covered her torso in the area that Vivian hit, the ring would severely reduce her flexibility in battle if she couldn’t remove it quickly, not to mention that it weighed a good amount. Forcing a grin to her face Topaz best she could she stood up and repositioned Lithium in her hands in preparation for her next attack. But at this moment all she could was mentally prepare and catch her breath.

Vermilion felt weightless for a moment, and then suddenly heavier. The sensation was unnatural and all he could think of was how this punk managed to throw him off his feet. His weapon felt heavy, his body felt heavy, almost as if there was some gravity dust in place somewhere.

However, he saw no dust. Not a spot a speck of dust as he was thrown forward, and his mind flew back to his spears. There they were, floating in midair where he left them. And then, they were gone.

Red aura dissipated as he called off his spears and whilst he flew, he activated his piledriver to spike into the ground, seeing as how it was already practically careening downwards in the first place, and stopped his fall then and there. Next thing he knew the scrawny punk was ramming something into his side.

Pain flared at his side as he felt the blow land and he even expelled some of the air in his lungs as he gasped. So he grinned.

"Looks like you got it in you after all don't you, blondie?" he groaned, pulling back the piledriver's spike as a spear formed in his hand. Planting his feet back on the ground Vermilion lifted his weapon and aimed it at his attacker, a near point blank strike as he spun and released a pilebunker strike for the scrawny one's torso.

”Bam!” Vivian let out a yell as Topaz took the blow square in the middle of her body. Normally she wouldn’t get so excited over a single hit, but this one had put her right where she needed to be. A stunned enemy standing within arms reach was one of the best advantages Vivian could have, as far as she knew. The massive ice attack had made her own arm a little stiffer than usual, but thankfully, she had two!

The faunus moved in again, using her good arm to swiftly follow up with a hook aimed at the girl’s head [-5% aura]. Trying to keep up the offensive before Topaz could collect herself and retaliate, she didn’t hesitate to attack again. Vivian lifted her right leg, opposite foot turning to the side and digging into the ground. Her knee extended out as she spun, driving her shin towards her opponent’s ribs in a rising, side-angled kick [-4% aura].

Avery didn't expect Vermilion to catch his fall with his weapon, though if was still comparing him to his sparring partner, maybe he should have. Though his mind caught Vermilion's counterattack in time, his body was lagging having put all of Avery's weight into his attack.

Avery took the attack to his chest. The impact of the blow was dampened by his semblance though at the cost of additional fatigue. He stumbled back a couple steps, but having caught wind of the attack beforehand, was able to recover from it quickly. Avery raised back his weapon, and as he sent it jabbing forward[1], he also re-extended the spear to its original length. At the same time, he deactivated his semblance in hopes that the sudden liberation of his hand would cause Vermilion to hesitate, even if just for a moment.
