The Vale Region / Re: The Hunter and the Hunted[Closed]

After slamming the door, Shade had sat down at the table. She watched the light of the stove dance across the walls and the rose placed in the center of the table. She heard Serin outside but remained focused on the rose. 'I'll be back before you graduate from Signal, Shade.' He left the rose on the table. 'Okay, be safe Sage.' 'You too.'he said as leaving. The front door splintered. She looked up dazed for a moment.
"He didn't come back. Why didn't he come back?"she asked knowing no answer would be returned. Growls from far off in the woods reached the inside of the cottage. Shade suddenly sat up straight listening to the noises outside. Her eyes going straight to the rifle on her bed. She motioned for Serin to hand it to her.

"Nice! This should let me fix it pretty well."Shade saw him opening the toolbox. Instantly she was behind Serin grabbing the toolbox and shoving his chest. She returned it to where it belonged. She grabbed Serin's collar and looked him straight in the eyes. Her bionic right eye blinked softly.
"I have half a mind to break every bone in your body."With him still in her grip she opened the door and tossed him out before slamming the door.

"The name's Shade and I was born with it."she had to speak up to counter the wind. The cottage was just up ahead. The snow was heavy falling between the trees. Nearing the cottage the wind was tugging at her cloak.
"You stay outside."Shade disappeared inside the cottage. Shade was partially glad to return to the warmth of the lone cottage. Sage's belongings remained where they had been nearly a year ago. Shade's portion of the cottage the only section really appearing to be used. On the far wall a wood stove and kitchen. In the middle, a lone table with a single red rose proudly on display. After organizing her equipment for a trip to Vale, she finally opened the door to allow Serin into the cottage. After letting Serin in, she placed the rifle on her bed. She moved around the cottage tending to small house tasks.
"The snowstorm probably won't let up for awhile. We should hold in here until it's safe."

As soon as the man was down in the snow, Shade began lining up her sights and popping shots off at the Ursa. In her peripheral, the man was scrambling around with his arm. The Ursa was now charging at her. Her shots came quickly one after another. Fire, load, cock, fire. Her actions followed the words spoken by her mentor so long ago. The man suddenly jumped up and ran out at the Ursa. Shade seized firing, watching the man attack the Ursa. After the Ursa crumbled into the snow, the man stood proudly as it disintegrated.

"See? When my arm works I'm not useless."his arm smacking him in the face. Shade slung her rifle and turned to head home to the cottage.
"I've gotta pick some things up before I can head into Vale."the wind gusted her hood back revealing her gray hair fluttering in the icy wind. She struggled against the wind and put her hood back up trudging along in the snow.

The muttering and footsteps behind her as she trudged alone told her he was following. Her attention remained forward watching the path up ahead.
"Im a little off topic bbbuutt anyways you shot me so you own me, I need help getting back to vale and fixing my arm, if you are going to as sullen as normal then at least help me get back to vale."
"You talk too much. It's for practice."she noticed up ahead a small clearing. Shade stopped in her tracks finding a small Ursa Grimm.
"Shit!"she muttered under her breath. Grabbing the rifle she took up aim at the Grimm watching its movements. Remembering the man following her she motioned for him to follow and moved to hide behind a fallen tree.

Shade watched the man slowly transition to standing in front of her. She observed his arm where the entry of her round was clearly visible. Finding metal and circuitry rather than flesh and blood she turned away toward where the deer had run off when the shot was fired. The man continued to check his arm out and ramble on about how messed up it was. Her attention was drawn back to him with the sound of metal against fabric with his jacket being shredded. She quickly returned focus on the path of the deer.

"So why the hell did you shoot me!?"he demanded an answer much like a child.
"You looked like a Grimm. Scared off my dinner as well." she calmly whispered back to him. She transitioned the weapon back into rifle form and slung it around her back. Noticing blood along the path, she turned back toward the man momentarily.
"At least I nicked him as well." she began walking, following the blood trail.

The frozen air embraced Shade and nipped at her button nose underneath the hood of her cloak. She had left the warmth of Sage's cottage hours ago to search for any wildlife nearby. It was nearing the anniversary of Sage's departure so the warmth of the cottage began to turn into pain when the wind died down. The snow was falling softly around her, her footsteps in the snow sending muffled cracks through the woods. Her early childhood memories of trampling through the fresh snow-filtered into her thoughts.

'Momma look at me, I'm making snow angels'
'Shade! Dear, she's going to freeze.'
'She'll be fine, let her enjoy it.' the voices echoed in the far depths of her mind. Shade struck out her hands grasping the nearest tree from a misplaced step. Once stabilized, she wiped a single tear from her left cheek.

The crisp crack of snow made her body rigid and her eyes went straight to the deer off in the distance. Behind the trees, she could determine the pattern of the lone deer. It would make a perfect meal for the night. She reached for the rifle strapped around her shoulder. An inky figure darted near the deer. She blinked as the crosshair tracked the figure. 'Grimm' she thought. The colors were familiar. Pulling the rifle off of her shoulder she steadied it and started loading a round. A deep breath as she cocked the rifle. Lining up the shot she exhaled partially. Her finger caressed the trigger as the Grimm went to attack the deer. Just before the Grimm made contact she grabbed the trigger, the rifle recoiling as a round went downrange. She was able to watch the round impact the Grimm. A shimmer much like an Aura and a shower of sparks scattered off of the figure before it went tumbling in the snow. Shade relaxed and slowly moved toward her target. As she grew closer she could hear the groans of the figure. She quickly collapsed the rifle into its sword form prepared to defend herself if the figure moved. Stopping about 10 feet from him, she could finally see the man she had shot.

"Well that wasn't smart."

Thank you for the feedback. I have revised the Personality section with some details about her educational abilities, some weaknesses in the Combat Behavior section(still new at creating characters with some drawbacks), and as well detailed the types of dust rounds used in the primary weapon. Once again thank you for the comments.

Hello, I am Devlin. I use to play a lot of roleplays on NationStates awhile back.  Mostly RPing as a nation state, not one specific character so this will be a bit new to me. I would so happen to be friends with the one who identifies as Mylies43.

CHARACTER

Name: Shade Wynter

Age: 18 years old Frost 14th, 62 AC

Species and Gender: Human Female

Symbol: Gun metal gray bionic eye with a dark purple glint in the pupil.

Occupation: First year student at Beacon Academy.

Appearance: Standing at just barely 5 feet tall and a slim build, Shade is, by all means, a petite girl. She has medium length ash gray hair that has long side swept bangs the cover burns that extend down the right side of her face and neck. She has a gray bionic eye as her right eye and her left eye is purple. She has small features with a high nose and thin lips. These features are usually covered by her signature gray cape lined with purple fur. When not wearing the cloak, one can see soft ink-like fabric clothes tattered at the ends and the weathered dark purple leather armor pieces placed over critical points. As a sniper, she has trained herself to be quiet and graceful in her movements. Many in a room wouldn’t notice her unless they look or she approaches them. She has the habit of floating through a room without much of a sound.

History: Born and raised in a wealthy family in the great kingdom of Atlas, Shade was always spoiled. She was an only child, her parents too busy with work to think about another child after the first one. Her father was a Huntsman in the Atlas military while her mother worked developing new types of technology. Shortly before her 10th birthday, her family was on a trip to Vale. Almost to Vale, the ship they were on was assaulted by bandits. During the chaos, she was subjected to severe burns caused by some Dust being ignited onboard. Her family cast off the ship, washed up on the shores alone far from civilization. Surviving on barely what they had available to them, Shade watched her mother fade from existence. Shortly after burying her own mother, a group of Beowolfs attacked them. Fending off the pack for as long as possible from harming his only child, her father sacrificed his life to allow Shade to run as far as she could. Eventually, she tired and collapsed in the woods outside of Vale. Awaken by the noises of Grimm, she was nearly attacked before a lone Huntsman rescued her. The huntsman name was Sage Fellworth and after bringing her to safety within the walls of Vale adopted her and raised her to be a strong fighter. She obsessed with using long range weaponry and grew up known for her aim thanks to the bionic eye she had to replace her injured one from the assault on the boat. She aspired to attend Beacon Academy to become a Huntress and protect those that needed protection and exact revenge on those that had taken her family from her. During her time at Signal Academy, Sage went off on a mission never returning. Despite being wrought with depression over the loss of another father figure she continued on with a burning desire to find him or find closure.

Personality: Shade is an introvert, wanting to be in the back of the room, out of everyone’s mind. But when she is focused on a task she forgets about everyone else. After losing her family she finds it hard to get close to anyone. She fears to lose them and so chooses to keep people at a safe distance. But if one gets to know her, she will talk more comfortably with them. During combat, she seems to go silent but will bark out orders when necessary. To others, she shows little emotion unless she breaks composure either thinking no one is around or the situation is too much for her to handle. In the classroom she has some higher understanding of Dust technology due to her Mother working as a researcher and her modifications on Frostbite. She maintains a decent level in her classes but suffers emotional breaks near the time of her parent’s death that negatively affects her work.

Aura and Semblance: Her aura is a dark purple color. The semblance is called cloak. It creates a hard to see visual distortion around her, around an object of her choice or as a wall making it near impossible to see unless you look closely or during movement it shimmers in the sunlight. The distortion creates a visual effect much like a quartz crystal making it appear like a broken image of what is behind the distortion. The distortion, when applied to herself, can last up to 15 minutes as long as she stays still and calm. If she starts moving its timespan shortens to 2 minutes if she keeps focused. If she loses focus on projecting it the cloak will start to flicker out and completely disappear in a few seconds. When projecting it for an object or others she can only hold it up for at most a minute. To rest for another period of using the cloak she must wait double the time she used it, so for 15 minutes she must wait half an hour.

Combat Behavior: During combat, Shade’s primary role is to stay at a distance and assist her teammates by taking down enemies using her long ranged rifle. During her long ranged engagements if needed, she can deploy a grappling hook from the end of her rifle to swing to new locations. If the enemy is too close for her to effectively use her rifle she will detach the rifle into two swords. She prefers to keep some distance between the enemies and herself. She only will attack up close if there is no chance to escape to a vantage point for long range engagements. She tires quickly if engaging up close and requires time to rest after fighting by activating her semblance alongside dropping a flashbang while slipping into the shadows. Shade can sprint pretty quick but will tire quickly and cannot sustain running for too long before she starts panting. If alone, she will set up a trap for the enemies to walk into and find a vantage point to engage them from a distance. During the chaos of combat, Shade often has traumatic flashbacks to watching her family die before her eyes. She will freeze up for a moment and suddenly become very emotional taking larger risks and breaking down her professional attitude.

WEAPON

Name: Frostbite

Primary Form: A bolt action sniper rifle with either ballistic or dust rounds. If needed she can fire the muzzle suppressor in the form of a grappling hook to move from one location to another in combat to gain a better vantage point.

Secondary Form: During close combat, Shade can transform the rifle into a one-handed sword. She hides the sword under her cloak when not needed ready to be retrieved in either form.

Dust Functions: Dust rounds can be loaded into the rifle form. A wind dust round creates a concussive blast when it strikes a surface, while a fire round creates a small fire for wherever it lands.

History: Originally forged as a training sword by Sage, Shade found she enjoyed ranged weapons and modified it with help from Sage to function as a sniper rifle. With the many revisions the primary form is now as a rifle but from tradition is kept sheathed as a sword when not needed.
