Beacon Academy / Re: [sSR] Initation: Team LILY

She must have landed in a fairly quiet spot- Or at least, quiet as long as she and anyone else nearby stayed quiet. The pits under her eyes took in the invisible outlines of everything she looked at, small differences in heat between tree and dirt and empty air were fine, but not what she was particularly interested in. She could see that; it was background noise.

Indigo huffed quietly and scratched the back of her head- her tail unfurled and dropped to the ground with a muted thud. Am I lost? I feel lost she thought as she began to scale up the tallest looking tree around to get her bearings. Damn woods look the same.. Oh hey, nice. Pleased to find the ruins in the distance, but more pleased to find herself still actually going in the correct direction, Indigo gave herself a brief moment to feel good about herself before climbing back down. As she did, Indigo pondered absently about what she was meant to retrieve; Just grabbing some old relics sounded a bit too easy for something so important, she couldn't help but feel there was a catch somewhere. Maybe she was overthi- Heat. Something below.

Eyes narrowed, focus. Leg muscles tightened, anticipating. Inhale. Calm.

A blob of heat, smaller than her... Person shaped. Just one?

Just one... Indigo exhaled smoothly and felt the adrenaline sap from her system. She pondered stalking and assessing them, but a moment later decided that it'd be better to just grab a partner and work from there. She didn't remember if there were an odd number of prospective students, but she really didn't like the idea of being left without a buddy if that were the case. Fine, time to go meet her new partner. Indigo put about a second of consideration into how to break the ice before simply doing. Her aura kicked on.

In front of the other student, one instant there was thin air, the next there was Indigo. Purple eyes met purple eyes. "Hey partner," she said with a satisfied little grin. "Call me Indigo."

Exhale. The sound of a launch pad, then another, another. Her heartbeat in her ears. Indigo wrapped her tail around her waist and bent her knees, purple eyes aimed squarely ahead.

You have one chance... Don't screw it up.

Her turn came and the cliff was suddenly a hundred-odd feet behind her with a distinct mechanical crack. Indigo squinted into the wind, grasping at what she could see for leads- mostly she found trees. Besides the distant glints of other students sailing through the air around her nothing stood out as important, so Indigo decided to land in no particular spot. As her speed and altitude began to drop she straightened out, aiming down to pick up speed towards the canopy. She focused and imagined being somewhere else, her aura kicked on and the world in front of her melted into a new scene- upwards. Her speed remained the same but she felt gravity instantly change direction. Where Indigo had been an instant before, rocketing towards the ground, she now sailed back up through the treeline. For style, she did a flip.

Indigo did the same twice more, each time her arc above the canopy growing slower and smaller until she gently landed on the forest floor below with a graceful roll. She scanned the area around her, brushing dust off her clothes, before drawing her axe, cracking her neck, and breaking into a sprint in the direction away from the cliff.

CHARACTER

Name: Indigo Yaaxulkan

Age: 18, Hitahita 16th

Species and Gender: Female Anaconda Faunus

Symbol:
Spoiler: ShowHide

Occupation: Student

Appearance:
Height: 5’10” (178 cm)
Head to Tail: 13’6” (411 cm)
Weight: 155 lbs (70 kg)
Weight (Including Tail): 230 lbs (104 kg)

Indigo is hard to miss thanks mostly to the enormous lavender snake’s tail growing from the base of her spine, which is either wrapped around her waist like a huge belt, or drags behind her lazily. Indigo’s tail stretches about 10 feet behind her and features a pattern of darker purple splotches along the top, and a pale underbelly.
As to be expected of an active fighter, Indigo’s build is lean and athletic, though she is noticeably bottom heavy. Her skin is reddish tan, and possesses a visibly indented scar on her stomach, indicating a violent stab wound, and several tattoos. Her hair is a natural indigo and her almond shaped eyes are a pale piercing purple; her nose is slightly flat, and three symmetric holes are visible beneath each of her eyes.
A fan of body-modification, Indigo possesses several piercings and tattoos including snake bites on her lower lip, silver false fangs, a split tongue, and a back tattoo featuring a feathered serpent.
Indigo’s prefered outfit consists of a matching blue sports top and shorts, both with yellow feathered trim, tight blue boots which end just above the knee, and a short, pale blue hip cape and belt specially made to accommodate her tail.

Indigo carries herself with a mix of confidence and airiness. She has a passive expression of curiosity and tends to stare off into space, as if she were daydreaming.
Her running stride is highly distinct- Because of her unusual center of mass, she prefers to run almost like a raptor; torso nearly horizontal with her tail parallel and waving behind her, matching stride to keep her balanced.

History:

Personality: Indigo is easy to like, she prefers making friends over enemies, and has a certain optimistic spirit that never seems to break; quick to crack a joke or make light of a tough situation. She can easily be the face of a group as a social butterfly, she makes friends easily, and her eccentric energy can be infectious at the best of times.
It would be easy to call Indigo something of an airhead- she has a tendency to drift off into her own world, and her optimism and friendliness can easily feel like naivety, and although she is not the brightest by her own admission, considering Indigo naďve would be a mistake. Indigo picks her battles carefully, and is always listening and planning for the worst.

Indigo is either highly active or supremely lazy, with little in-between. She is a lover of nature, and always enjoys physical activity and a good challenge. She is also a queen of corner cutting, preferring the quickest solution to more abstract obstacles she can’t bang her head against to victory. When she isn’t doing anything else, Indigo prefers napping above all else, or eating; she is infamous for her appetite.

Aura and Semblance: Coil and Leap
Indigo's semblance takes the form of a short-range instant teleport which is also capable of changing her direction of momentum or launching her slightly.

Coil and Leap silently transports Indigo instantly to a location within 5 meters, in any orientation or direction she chooses, provided that the point in space is not physically blocked. Indigo cannot teleport through solid objects, but can "dodge" obstructions if she could fit through or move around them normally. eg: She may teleport past a hole she could normally crawl through, but not out of a cage. Because of this, Indigo cannot teleport at all if restrained.

Whenever Indigo teleports, she may reorient herself and redirect her momentum. eg: She may begin facing north and reappear facing south, or may teleport while falling upside down to reappear upright and falling up instead. Indigo may also add a certain amount of momentum to her jump, but with a force no greater than a push she could produce naturally.

Indigo's semblance is fast, and capable of being used in rapid succession. However, subsequent uses rapidly diminish her aura's shielding ability, making rapid use high risk/high reward. Using her semblance this way inevitably slips into unsustainability, as her survival depends on constantly teleporting when her defenses drop; she is forced waste more aura keeping the technique up or retreat to recharge.

Combat Behavior: Indigo toes the line between skirmisher and assassin. She mainly targets stragglers and key players, avoiding being in the thick of it for too long, if at all. By teleporting in and quickly dispatching foes with a quick shotgun blast or an axe chop, then teleporting away or to the next target, Indigo plays the role of back line flanker. In short: dive in, land a hit, duck out.

Because she tries to avoid fighting, Indigo will often wait out of sight or stalk stealthily before striking at the right moment, like a snake in the grass.

Indigo can also act as a pseudo support. By teleporting in to in intercept enemy attacks, or serving as a distraction, she can take some heat off of her partners if needed, though she prefers not to.

Advantages:
Float like a Butterfly - Because Indigo relies on avoiding trouble and taking cheap shots, she specializes in dodging and evasion. She hits hard when she does, and is a pain to pin down.

You Can Run... - In addition to advanced night vision as a faunus, Indigo possesses pit organs near her sinuses, which allow her to sense variation in temperature; she is able to see even in total darkness. Tracking down hidden targets and spotting ambushes early is Indigo's specialty.

Ribcracker - As an anaconda faunus, Indigo's tail is huge, and exceptionally strong. Her tail can break unprotected bones if she gets it coiled, and is strong enough to support her weight. Additionally, thanks to having to lug her tail around her entire life, Indigo's legs are frighteningly powerful.

Snakelike - Indigo is naturally more flexible than normal.

Plays Well with Others - Indigo likes working with others, and especially likes having a buddy to watch her back. Team cohesion comes naturally to her.

Disadvantages:
Fragile - Like swatting a fly, while hard to hit, it may only take one good or lucky strike to put Indigo out of action. Indigo's aura shielding is below average normally, when on the attack with her semblance her durability drops even further.

Big of Heart, Dumb of Ass - Indigo has a bold spirit and a thick skull. Without a partner to reel her in Indigo is known to take unnecessary risks, stick to flawed plans, and fails to adapt. One of her greatest issues is predictability- the longer a fight lasts, the more likely an opponent is to predict where and when she will teleport or make a move, shutting her down quickly.

Not Much up Her Sleeves - Indigo is something of a one trick pony, she doesn't have grand variability in her strategy, and is strongly of the mindset that if it's not broken, don't fix it.

WiP Characters / Gale Zephyr WIP

CHARACTER

Name: Gale Zephyr

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Human Female

Symbol: Working on it

Occupation: Student, Delivery girl

Appearance: Gale has a round face, bluish grey jaw length hair that is wind blown and sticking up wildly. Her eyes are wide and bright cyan; her eyebrows are mildly unkept but not exceptionally bushy. Gale's nose is small and round, pointed straight. Her lips are greyish pink, of average fullness. Her ears are rather small, with attached, un-pierced earlobes.

Her skin is fair in places, but her thighs, face, stomach, and forearms have slight tan on them. She has no freckles of significant number, only a dot or two on her arms. She possesses no scars as well, nor any tattoos.

Gale's neck is rather fragile looking, lacking any exceptional mass, as is the case with the rest of her. Gale's build is extremely slight, she stands at a mere 4'5", weighing only 80 lbs. Gale's arms are longer than average for her size; her hands are somewhat rough from work, unpainted nails clearly bitten down rather than cut. Gale's collarbone is rather pronounced, and some of her ribs are visible on her sides. She sports medium sized breasts, though her stature makes them appear bigger, at least she likes to think.

Gale's stomach is flat, showing some signs of definition in the right light. Gale's legs are somewhat long compared to her torso, and much more defined than her arms, though still thin on average. Her feet are small and dainty, nails slightly neglected and grown.

On her head, Gale wears a pair of modern looking aviator goggles, tinted and reflective, with dark blue rims and a white strap.

Gale wears a very dark blue cropped compression shirt, covered by a blue leather half-jacket, sporting her symbol on the back. The jacket zips up, but is left open, and has long wings that form from the sleeves slightly above the elbow. The bottom hem of the body and wings of the jacket are trimmed soft cyan. The inside of the jacket is light blue, and fluffy like wool.

Gale wears a pair of darker blue compression shorts, and a cloth belt loosely around her hips. The belt has a triangle pattern on it, alternating white and blue, and is latched with a plain silver belt buckle.

Her boots are about knee height, medium blue and wide towards the top. Three larger bright blue straps run up the length of each boot, three smaller straps line the foot. The sole of each boot is grey, heeled slightly, and treaded like work boots.

Finally, her weapon, a pair of grey, leather driving gloves lined with steel shot.

History: Gale has little memory of her early childhood, her earliest is foggy at best, but was probably around 5 years old. She was a weak baby, born small and underdeveloped; she was apparently abandoned by her birth parents, and has no recollection of them, nor any knowledge of who had saved her. Gale was taken in by a small family of bird faunus, who remain her loving family still.

Living stably but far from luxury, Gale grew up in southern Vale beside an older brother and two younger twin sisters. Gale unlocked her semblance unusually early, which naturally wreaked havoc while young Gale discovered the ins and outs of her new powers.

Naturally, she could do only so much on her own, and out of necessity and noise complainants, Gale's parents enrolled her at Signal Academy to get a handle on her disruptive semblance. To almost everyone's surprise, she enjoyed her time greatly.

Young Gale had always been rowdy, but never the violent type; at Signal awoke a new kind of confidence and passion within Gale. Around this time, she ceased to grow any taller.

Though Gale enjoyed the physical half of her new schooling, she struggled academically- easily distracted and disinterested, she required additional tutoring to match the standards needed to move on. Nonetheless, she managed somehow to keep up with her peers and move up to the next step, Beacon Academy.

Neither Gale nor her parents had planned on continuing as far as she had, but as she gained further and further control of her violent streams of energy, and grew more fond of fighting, it was clear this was the path Gale was meant to take.

Personality:

Aura and Semblance: Roaring Mistral

Gale’s aura is potent and violent, perhaps making up for her stature. Roaring Mistral taps into her pool of energy directly, allowing her to open up a number of small portals, called 'jets,’ anywhere on her body, allowing raw force to pour out and push her in the opposite direction.

With careful application of her semblance, and lots of practice, Gale can achieve sustained flight as long as her aura remains. As of current, her top speed remains at 150 mph, though her average cruising speed settles around 65 mph. She can maintain this speed for half an hour before needing rest.

When a jet is open, a stream of bright cyan smoke and fire like a rocket engine emerges immediately. The 'fire’ is not hot- lukewarm at best- and the smoke quickly disappears after a few seconds. Each jet is disruptively loud, producing a roaring, crackling sound somewhere between a rocket and a revving engine; nothing can be done to quiet this noise, at least not if Gale wants to get anywhere with her semblance. A jet can be theoretically any size, but loses net power with the force spread out too much. Gale has found the most efficient size to be around the size of a sports drink cap.

To aide Gale in regenerating and maintaining her power, Roaring Mistral passively draws on her metabolism to supplement it somewhat. As a result, Gale is almost always hungry, since she tends to rely heavily on her semblance. Gale suspects this effect is the cause for her stunted growth.

Combat Behavior: Gale is unfit for direct confrontation, but far too aggressive and energetic to sit in the back lines. As a result, her fighting style revolves around being a pest- difficult to pin down while distracting and whittling down enemies by striking suddenly and leaving the enemy's range before they can strike back, rinse and repeat.

Gale is most effective in an open area, where she can fly and maneuver freely. The outdoors, and even cityscapes are her territory, as long as she has room to fly.

With her speed and size, Gale is very difficult to pin down. This is her primary strength, and the cornerstone of her strategy and style.

Though Gale is by no means a heavy hitter, she must not be underestimated. Her steel punches, with a good windup, leave quite a mark. She's no gunslinger, but enough hits will take her opponent down, and Gale’s fighting style revolves around landing many lighter hits without staying close for too long.

As one can imagine, Gale’s largest disadvantages come from the inability to fly. Without enough space, or if tethered somehow, she loses a grand majority of her mobility. Since Gale lacks the defensive capabilities of her peers, this can often be a death sentence- her defense strategy revolves around not being hit in the first place.

Though Gale can hold her own on the ground, she runs out of options quickly, and does not last long without retreating.

WEAPON

Name: These… Gloves, I guess?

Primary Form: Gale wears a pair of white leather gloves. In the knuckles of each glove is a lining of steel shot, and a small reservoir of kinetic dust for extra kick. Er, punch.

Secondary Form: nah

Tertiary Form: nope

Dust Functions: Highly simplistic, Gale’s gloves contain enough kinetic dust to make her attacks really hurt.

History: Gale was never the clever type, and has a preference for the direct and simple. When tasked with designing her own weapon, Gale kept the complexity to an absolute minimum, though it worked in her favor; she's only had the need to replace her gloves once since making the original pair. Students have offered to make her a new weapon, but Gale is perhaps too sentimental about her creation.
