"Hey, Nutcracker. How 'bout you?"

Meanwhile, inside the control room of Unit Symbl, pandemonium erupted.
"Sir, the boy just asked us what we want for consumption!"
"I can see that lieutenant. Corporal, put our options on screen."
"Impossible, sir! None of us were listening! I'm afraid we were in the war room, trying to prepare a response for this exact situation!"
"Goddammit." The Commander chomped down on his cigar in an effort to calm his nerves; for the first time, it didn't work. "What does the science team say?!"
"They report that the stomach could either take any food, or reject everything immediately, sir." The poor Corporal had to dive for cover as the Commander threw his chair at him.
"What good does that report do us?!" He took a deep breath and stomped on his cigar. "Alright, let's just let the Instinct take this one.

"Lobster with Garlic Butter melted over it?" Symbol suggested. Diesal stared at him. The lunchlady stared at him. The people in the line around them stared at him. In fact it felt like the entire HALL stopped just to stare at him.

The Commander stood on the control deck, frozen in his mounting rage. "Get me Higher Functions."
"No one is responding, sir." The Corporal squeaked.
Out of things in reaching distance to throw, the Commander threw the only thing left at the Corporal - himself.
"ARRRRRRGHHH!!"

Yay, I got a friend(?) Now just walk off the pain. Just walk.... it off..... Whatever you do, don't blow chunks all over the guy....
Symbol leaned over, taking deep, gulping breaths. He had to think of a food to eat, quick. Something that wouldn't make him sick. He hated making someone wait while he chose his order. It was so awkward! In fact, he just despised awkward moments in general.
There had to be some irony there, since he seemed to do nothing but create awkward moments. Like this! This right here! Where do you go from getting knocked over by a dude, having him come back and apologise, then sack-wacking yourself while trying to make an introduction? Screw it, if his uncles had taught him one thing, it was the importance of having alli- friends, of having friends. Yep. That's what he meant.
"So uuhhh... what's your favourite food? Yep, you really went there. You asked a guy you just met what his favourite food is. You could've asked him anything! You could've shown him your weapon! He looks like the kinda guy who's into that, and this is a school for warriors! But nooooo, you just had to go with "what's the thing you like to put in your mouth the most?"

I feel like there's an innuendo somewhere in there, but then again I really don't feel like pointing it out is the wisest course of action. My uncles didn't give me much advice about diplomacy; well, nothing useful anyway. They could never seem to decide what the right thing to teach me was between "smile even if you're unhappy with someone" or "If they piss you off, shoot 'em; then screw their girlfriend.
I think I need to get some new mentors...

Why me?
The thought had been going through Symbol's mind quite a bit as of late. From his caretakers revealing to him his 'secret heritage' to the fact that they half expected him to reclaim his rightful seat as head of a gang and change it for the better. He had absolutely NO interest in running a gang. NONE whatsoever!
.......
Ok, maybe he'd though about it once or twice - but who wouldn't? All those Vacuan gangster movies had rubbed off on him it seemed.

Right, where was he? Oh yes, in the middle of being laughed at by a giant who was pointing at his crotch; in particular, his downed fly.
Now, to be fair to Symbol, he was awkward as hell. As such, he had no idea what to do fist in this situation; zip up his fly, shake the monster's hand and introduce himself, or try picking up the books he'd dropped again? What Symbol did was an amalgamation of the three - which could be summed up as trying to zip his pants up with one hand, pick up the books with the other and use the third - wait third? - to shake.
.......
The result... wasn't pretty; and had Symbol on the ground once more, only this time with his hands over his manhood, writhing in pain.
"FFFUUCK."

Well that was a thing...
Symbol sighed, watching the hulking figure move retreat into the distance. Joints popped and he let out a groan as he bent down to pick up the book he dropped.
"Books are nice" he mumbled, "books don't bump into you, then tell you to watch where you're going...."
Why did he think he could do this again? He'd expressed a desire to become a Huntsman and help people, and his caretakers, Simon and Roomba had only been too happy to go along with it; they'd trained him in multiple fighting styles and how best to use his Faunus abilities.
Unfortunately, the one thing they hadn't taught him - the one thing he probably needed the most - was how to communicate with the beings called "people".
Sighing again, he continued to read as he walked. It was his favourite book, "The Man with Two Souls Two" and he kept it on him always, more as a comfort item rather than just for reading material. When he read it, he didn't have to worry about anything else, didn't have to be scared at what kind of initiation they'd go through, didn't have to notice the fact that he'd forgotten his prized weapon and left it on the Bullhead, nor did he have to notice that fact that his fly was down and people were pointing and laughing.....
........
........
.....................................
"Shit."

I created my character's backstory specifically for the purpose of being an arc plot later on in the story, but I got no clue how to start a thread so......
yeah.

Someone needs to comment on how flimsy that sounds in-story.

CHARACTER

Name: Symbol Rock

Age: 17

Species and Gender: Faunus and Male

Symbol: A lion roaring with a heart in its mouth (the family crest)

Occupation: First year at Beacon

Appearance:
Spoiler: ShowHide

History: A lion faunus, Symbol does not know where he came from; his earliest memories are that of the two Huntsmen who became his caretakers picking him up from an orphanage. The only clue to his past are nightmares which plague him - the sound of a man and a woman screaming while a different man is laughing manically, along with the sensation of falling. Always curious for answers as to where his real parents are (or were), he’d pester the two men – Simon and Roomba – for answers about his heritage. The only answer they could ever give him was that they had both been hired by Symbol’s parents in order to protect him. Some very bad people wanted Symbol for the power that his last name could give to people in the underworld. They moved around every few months, mostly avoiding towns and preferring to stick to the large bases constructed in hollowed out caves or built underground and (apparently) owned by Symbol’s father, only venturing into towns for emergencies – such as lack of food or Symbol coming down with a disease. These bases were extremely spacious, with good living quarters and training halls meant for Symbol to learn in. In order to keep Symbol inconspicuous, his caretakers regularly shaved his mane so that it was non-existent, telling Symbol that when the time was right, he would have to let it grow out. Growing up on the run, Symbol never had the chance to properly socialise with people his age, a fact which Simon and Roomba overlooked in their quest to keep him unnoticed by the outside world. So instead, Symbol turned to books – and instantly fell in love with the magic of stories. It was his only release from the outside world, his situation, his life – all of it. This had a negative effect however, since in immersing himself in fantasy while having to be separated from society, Symbol grew up to be… a bit socially introverted. It didn’t help matters that his ridiculous strength for someone his age left him feeling like a freak.
(Meta Knowledge) Symbol is actually the son of former Vacuan gang lord, Asaf Quartz. Not just any gang lord – THE gang lord, the one everyone else payed respect to. A fair man – for a criminal – Asaf had no desire for his son to be caught up in his world, instead wanting him to be the hero to take down people like Asaf. So when he was born he started making plans to have him safely taken away with two of his best friends and most trusted advisors – Simon and Roomba – once he reached the age of five. However, the succession of the criminal empire is considered to be hereditary – as such Symbol is the rightful successor to the throne. This custom is iron-clad, one that not even criminals dare break (honour among thieves and all that). This didn’t sit well with Asaf’s brother Rak, who wanted to take the “throne” for himself – and promptly had Asaf and his wife killed right before Symbol was supposed to leave – and right in front of his eyes too. Simon and Roomba barely escaped in the ensuing coup and both agreed to follow their friend’s last wish of keeping his son safe. The trauma proved too great for Symbol and he lost all memory of his parents, only seeing vague images and shapes in his nightmares.
(End Meta knowledge)
Symbol expressed a desire to use his training to help others, a relief to Simon and Roomba since this was Asaf’s wish in the first place; so they arranged for Symbol to attend Beacon before going back undercover to try and subvert Rak’s dictatorship back in Vacuo, promising to meet back up with Symbol when the time was right.

Personality: Complicated. He'd love to talk to people and learn how to socialise properly, but he doesn't know how to take the first step and as such he retreats back into the world of novels - somewhere he knows he can't be hurt nor will anyone call him out on his awkwardness.

Aura and Semblance: His aura is above average, but he has trouble controlling it and as such hasn’t manifested a Semblance yet.

Combat Behavior: This is when Symbol’s indecisiveness and shy personality melt away, and he falls back into his training mentality – take the enemy down, and down it down hard. His body is built like a rock (pun intended) and this affected his fighting style; he simply isn’t flexible enough to do any of the fancy stuff like kicks and flips, instead preferring to use his overwhelming strength, speed and stamina to obliterate.

WEAPON Large

Name: Cor

Primary Form: Chain-sword. Similar in design to the one used by the White Fang Lieutenant, but with a larger, rectangular base for keeping the bullets.
Secondary Form: Mini-gun. The barrels spring out from the base on either side of the neck, two chamber on each side. The handle grip moves from the back of the base two the top to allow firing from the hip.

Dust Functions: He can add fire Dust Bullets for explosive effect, or add fire Dust Fuel to the Chain-sword to engulf the blade in flames when activated. The same effect applies when Ice and Electric Dust is applied. Earth Dust just jams up the gun and Wind Dust… don’t even get him started on that.

History:
Asaf had the weapon designed for Symbol while he was making the plans for his concealment – and tasked Simon and Roomba to train him with it. It’s actually so heavy that most people can’t lift it – only Symbol with his enhanced faunus strength can use it properly in battle.
