It's gotta be a joint operation, there's no way that all of that could've happened if you factor in the time it takes to run from the control room. So there've gotta be at least 2 people involved, and it's probably more than that. For some reason, Auctioneer doesn't seem like a prime suspect to me. It's likely that he's going to be the one in a lot of trouble if the diamond's missing, and he's standing in the exact same place. He also doesn't have a gun and couldn't have pushed top hat out. But I think that he did know that it was going to happen, as his reaction is "Oh really?" like he was expecting it to be stolen, but didn't realize that there would be such a mess. Then again, expecting it could just be because of the letter.

Asterisk: Yeah, it would be 5 something for you, right? And you said that you slept from 9-5? I go to sleep at five. Sometimes. My sleep schedule isn't that bad.

Also, the international-ness of this thread continues to grow with Leycil being somewhere in UTC +8 and Lucky being in Singapore.

Natendo: I wouldn't have a seizure if someone tried to justify a ship that wrong to me. I'd go nuclear and lay waste to as much of their lives as I could get my hands on. As a rule, if you want to suffer much, mess on my friends. This does include y'all at this point. If you absolutely want to not see the next sunrise, mess on children. If you really want to die screaming, mess on children I know personally.

I'm actually not that salty, I know the internet is a weird place and that humanity is Fallen, so creepy ships do not give me fits.

And it took me way too long to figure out what Blacksun was a ship of. And I even like the concept, although to be fair even that friendship is good enough writing to warrant more screen time.

Let me explain.

Let's start at the overlooked clue, the letters. The letters are sent out to those that are in the secret auction. No one knows how is coming other than the Auctioneer himself. He became the prime suspect immediately.

Now I'll explain what happened.

The Mechanic dozed off, after all the first thing we see of the Mechanic is lazy. He accidentally crashed his face into the controls and cause the blackout, hence why he has the bandage on his face.

The Auctioneer pushed the business man of the ship, hence why the silk hat is in the ocean, and make him seem like the suspect. The Police must have took a shot in the dark and shot the politician by accident. The Auctioneer then takes the diamond and hides it.

Now why isn't it the others? Waitress was holding something, she wouldn't have the time. Actress is rich, she has no motive. As for why she took whiskey on rocks, personal preference. Magician is too close to the diamond, if she took it she would be the first person to be check. Mafia wouldn't have the time to go to the diamond and seat again. Doctor wouldn't be treating the politician if she took the diamond.

Now here comes psychology. A diamond of such value, why would you sell it? Humans would rather keep it a secret with greed than sell it to others. Oddly suspicious. The whole auction is a fake, it was a set up to make the Auctioneer seem like he doesn't have the diamond, hence no thief would steal the diamond from him. Clever plan.

Leycil: Good points were made, it does make sense. As for having no  motive, this is a legendary diamond fabked to bring happiness. But that's a small detail. (Mechanic is MAYU btw) Have to say, great super sleuthing. I'll have to look into ut further, but it seems solid so far. Really, I'm terrible at these kinds of things. Why I asked for help. Should've known. It's ALWAYS Gakupo.
