CHARACTERName: Russell “Rusty” Omhiaba
Age: 17, born on Tulikuuma, 63 AC
Species and Gender: Human Male
Symbol: Occupation: 1st Year Student at Atlas
Appearance: A dark-skinned Rusty stands at 6’2” and weighs approximately 225lbs. of muscle. He has always been a big guy, almost intimidating when you first meet him. His hair is styled as a large afro hidden under a black skull cap.
Torso: He wears a large, burgundy pea coat that resembles a marching band jacket over a black and white ľ sleeve tee. The jacket appears baggy, wearing it prior to weight loss.He wears a set of steel braces on each arm that cover half of his forearms. On his left forearm, he has his lion symbol tattooed in black. He also wears a holster for his shield when not in battle, but it can be removed when battle commences.
Legwear: He wears black cargo pants with kunai weapon holsters and brown combat boots.
History: Raised by poor immigrants, Rusty had a hard time growing up. He was never the richest kid nor the most healthy either, but he liked working in his father’s weapons shop. It made him feel at peace. He loved seeing the customers come in and get their weapons fixed by his dad.
His father Sterling, a former Huntsman, became a devout passivist after seeing a teammate die in front of him, but he knew he could be a skilled mechanic. Plus, he knew the money would be in weapon maintenance, especially if he moved his family to Atlas. Being poor meant they had to live on the outskirts of the Atlas forest. He would also homeschool his son over everything other than combat until he became 14. Rusty’s mom Ivory works for rich military families as a servant in Atlas. She is a kind woman who would do her best to be a supportive mother. As a kid, Ivory had often dreamed of being a Huntress, but prior injuries in her youth from an abusive father took away this dream. When she married Sterling, he promised to never harm her and only to raise his hands if it meant he could protect his home. His mother still has some scars that she has been hiding. Rusty has seen them, saddening him and making him defensive of his mother's safety. If you were to subtract the bullying he received, Rusty was happy with his life. This was until that one night.
A large boom and blaring sirens woke Rusty in the night. He ran downstairs to check on his family. His mother was at work, most likely trapped in the skirmish. Rusty raced downstairs to see his father fighting off an Ursa Grimm. There had been an outbreak in the forest neighboring their small village. His father looked over at his son and yelled for him to get upstairs. The Grimm took this distraction and launched a table, hitting Rusty and knocking him unconscious. Rusty awoke in pain, but quickly forget this pain at the sight of his mother awoke him crying at the sight of hid dead father. He held his mother in his arms, crying himself, though these were tears of rage.
These tears turned into nightmares. Each nightmare grew more worse than the last. One night, a nightmare that happened so vividly shook Rusty to his very core. He woke up, angry with himself for not doing more to protect his father. He grew angrier, thinking about the Grimm. He began to go berserk on his father's shop, destroying his father's shop. Breaking tools, his rage grew more and more until he ultimately unleashed his hereditary semblance Omhiaba Pride upon the shop. In his fit of rage, he found the shield from the shop’s sign and threw it. It ricocheted back at him, striking him in the head and knocking him unconscious. He later awoke, looked over the damage he had done and apologized to his father. Rusty then saw the shield and then an idea sparked in his head. He would use this shield, a symbol of defense like his father, as a weapon to defeat the Grimm who took his father away.
But what started as a quest for vengeance turned into a journey of looking for people in trouble and keeping them safe from harm’s way. Being a Huntsman may not be the future his father wanted for him, but this is the future Rusty needs to keep his friends safe. So the only way to get off on the write foot is to join the military academy Atlas. Rusty figured, if anyone could teach him to control his rage, it would be this academy. The first person he met was the combat instructor.
Personality: Seeing children with better toys and lacking friends made him feel inadequate when compared to others. On top of that, being a bigger kid, meaning he had a lot of weight as a kid, led to him getting picked on. Though he respected his father's teaching, he wanted to fight back. But he never knew how to fight as compared to the children of the military. He can make snarky comments, but otherwise, Rusty will keep to himself. His level of rage is often poked fun at. He also had a fear of birds being grabbed by a flying Grimm at a young age and thus he has a fear of heights, though this has been proven to be easier to get over as opposed to the birds.
But as he has grown older, he has learned to mature. He has become more talkative and can make jokes about both himself and others but he still has his introverted moments. He is a momma's boy at heart and wears his heart on his sleeve. He is also a quick learner, adapt quickly to his combat teachings and can accurately created battle strategies.
Aura and Semblance: Rusty’s aura glows a deep burgundy. He has trained his aura to be used as a shield and even to make his attacks stronger. His aura glows brightest when using his semblance
Omhiaba Pride. Omhiaba Pride is visible by his hair turning a bright red flame and his strength greatly increases with the level of ra. While his normal strength tops out a squat 600 lbs. and bench press 350 lbs., his semblance has been described by his instructor as follows: "Rusty is immensely stronger with his semblance. He could easily deadlift an Ursa without being winded!"
This semblance has its drawbacks. He only has been in this state as long as 5 minutes, but once he loses this rage, he is dazed for a similar timeframe. This rage is also blind rage. His instructor says this about his semblance: "His strength is impressive, but I would avoid his sight. The thing is, he will not think, only act. This includes anyone near him. During our training, he pressed me against a wall, almost attacking me. If I hadn't acted fast, he could've ended me. But I would still recommend his admission. He has a kind spirit that shields that rage. We just need to keep an eye on him."
Combat Behavior: His combat behavior is that of a protector as he usually is. Rusty can fight aggressively if needed, but is a stronger member when used as a defensive player. His semblance is only activated when he is dire situations or angered enough to warrant it. His kunai are used for battlefield control, deflecting projectile for his teammates or as a means of retreat. Fighting for Rusty is a last resort but this doesn’t mean he will shy away if it means defending himself or his teammates. Rusty's strength and his competence with his semblance make him a strong force to be reckoned with.
WEAPON 1Name: Sterling
Primary Form: Sterling is a powerful shield, used as both defense and as a melee strikes. It maintains a perfectly round shape and has grips around the circumference, allowing for Rusty to grip from any part of the shield.
Secondary Form: The shield can be thrown around, almost like a boomerang. Rusty has trained with catching the shield as a battle tactic and then punches and defends with his braces. His braces also act as magnets that attracts the shield back to the user.
History: The shield, named after his father, was on the sign in front of his father’s shop. The shield was always falling off and he never got around to putting back up. He never thought of using it as a weapon until he threw it in a fit of rage and the shield ricocheted off the wall and almost hit him in the head. Since then, he knew he wanted to train as a Huntsman, to avenge his father’s death. He later designed the braces as a better means to make the shield return to his grasp, thanks to the magnetization to his braces only.
WEAPON 2Name: Pocket of Roars
Primary Form: A set of kunai that can acts as his hand to hand combat weapons. They can be deflected but if Rusty can insert the dust, the kunai can be enhanced and thrown around for his advantage.
Dust Functions: Each kunai can be infused with dust. So when thrown or activated by Rusty, the kunai’s attack power will be enhanced by the dust qualities. He currently possesses fire, smoke, ice and electricity dust, but he is looking to increase his roster. However, there is a limit to what each dust can output and once the dust runs out, it becomes an ordinary kunai.
History: The idea of creating the kunai came from watching old martial art movies. He began to test his throwing accuracy out while at the academy. He later learned from his dad how to enhance weaponry with dust functions. So it became natural for Rusty to enhance his kunai by adding a special slot for the dust functions.
